Actually its a sandbar like an appendix at the mouth af Catarman river which is nearly a kilometer long. Some locals call it dila-dila because of its tongue-like shape. The present administration plan to have the area turned into a tourist destinatioon because of its unique features. One side of the sandbar faces the ocean while the other faces the river.

http://texaninthephilippines.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Gaisano-Grand-Mall.jpg
Now I’m not saying that the Gaisano Grand Mall in Calbayog is going to look like this. I am just putting a picture of one of their Grand Malls here to see. I specify “Grand Mall” because it seems they have different mall names for different types of malls for some reason. That is what lead me to believe that the one they plan to build here will be similar to the picture. I think the one in the picture is on Bohol. By the way the “N/A ATT” in the title (in case you don’t know) means “not applicable at this time”.
I found the following entry at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaisano and other places also.
Gaisano Grand Mall Calbayog (TBC) Calbayog City, Samar
That (TBC) must mean “To Be Constructed” because there is no mall even close to one that looks like that one in the picture. Five Star Commercial is the closest thing and even that is not close, at all.
Supposedly this new mall is to be built at the current site of the cock fight arena. The arena and several of the surrounding houses are being evacuated at this time to make room for this new mega structure. It’s sure going to have a beautiful view of the ocean at that location. I know this because Vicky lives in this area and she has been asked to move. Now they are not just being evicted. Vicky said that they have been offered a piece of land up the road that will be paid for, for them but must be re-paid. The repayment is only about P200 per month though. That’s a good deal even for most of the poor people in this area. In addition to that they will all be given P10,000 ($225-$230), which will come in handy because they must build their own house on the new land.
Now in case you are a super sleuth or something and are wondering why people are being evacuated and only being given P10,000 for their land…well it isn’t there land, in most cases, maybe all cases. Vicky and the majority of the people there are squatters. So this is actually an excellent deal for them. The new land that they are getting will be theirs after they finish paying. Just to have an opportunity to own land is something that they most likely never would have had before. Plus they get an additional P10,000. I’ll bet a lot of them have never seen P10,000 all at one time before. I know Vicky is pretty happy about it and I think it has squelched any ideas of her moving to Manila and leaving us in March.
I also learned today that this new mall WAS suppose to be built downtown where the old open market is now. That’s one of the reason why they started the new open market closer to our house. However there was a problem with the mall directors and the city directors on some of the details concerning the building of the mall. Evidently it was decided that it would be easier to build it here in Bagacay.
Okay that’s the scoop on the current rumors about this new mall. I’ll give you more details either in a special post on in the regular post as I find out about them. If you remember back when I first started this blog, I told you that I had a feeling this area would be building up. I thought this because of the Ciriaco Hotel and the luxurious style that they are being to the area. Why would anyone what to pay those high prices for a hotel not close to anything? I was thinking that they know something that I don’t, and we would be seeing a lot of improvements in the area. I know this wasn’t planned at the time, but just for them to pick this area to build it, says something. I do have a few more points to make in relation to this mall, but they are better served by posting them on my blog entry for the day. Check out the 22 Feb 11 entry for those details and other interesting and not always interesting items.

What??? Can't understand a single sentence. The thoughts are mangled...OMG.
Anyways, Gaisano Grand will occupy the old public market, PERIOD and not anywhere else. Please don't post again things like this in order not to confuse our fellow forumers. I'm asking everyone to please be responsible. Not all things or infos that we discover are worth posting. Thanks. Just a reminder.

I am just considering this it might be real

How do you send all those pictures at once. I would like to send some pictures I have on the blog of the various hotels I have in the area.
The area where the mall is going to be built still has all the houses and the cock fight arena, it is just in the early phases of clearing out.

http://texaninthephilippines.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Gaisano-Grand-Mall.jpg

I dont think so mayda Gaisano ha Bohol?:)

How do you send all those pictures at once. I would like to send some pictures I have on the blog of the various hotels I have in the area.
The area where the mall is going to be built still has all the houses and the cock fight arena, it is just in the early phases of clearing out.
Construction is scheduled at this time to start in September.

I just typed a long explanation of what I have heard about the new mall, new market, new bus stations, old market, old bus stations, cock fight arena and some other things. I pushed sent and it said my "token" was expired and it couldn't send it. It said to back up and push refresh and I did that, but it still didn't send, after I typed it all again. I'm not typing all that again. Visit my website at: http://texaninthephilippines.com - to see everything I know about all that. There are also a lot of other things that are interesting there. When I find out new information, I also will put that in my blog. Please leave a comment when/if you visit my website to let me know you are from this forum. At my website I have the above article, plus check out the articles for the 22nd, 24th and 25th, usually close to the bottom of the article. The all mention something about the mall. Of course you can read the whole story if you want to. The can't start construction yet, they still have to clear out all the houses and other buildings first. It's going to be a nice view of the ocean from there though.

Bakit may ganun kanegative na comment dito. Para mo na ring sinabi na Samar Island doesn't deserve to have a single city. That's what we can have here in Samar at the moment. Catbalogan and Calbayog are our top 2 urban centers in Samar Island. Yung nakikita mo sa mga lugar sa metro Manila ay hindi lang ang conclusibong basihan sa pagiging city. ^^ you better ask why Cabuyao, San Pedro, Binan and Dasmarinas are still not a city... malapit sa Metro Manila yun kaya mauunlad yung mga yun... kung malayo sa Manila yang mga yan hindi uunlad yan... pero ang Calbayog kahit na malayo ay maunlad naman kahit papano... we don't have neighbors like Metro Manila to depend on for our progress. :bash::bash:

Is Calbayog progressing? I don't see any progress in your "city".

^^Ewn ko sayo dude.. hindi nman sa city hall makikita yung progress... are you from Cebu or Cavite City??? If you are from Cavite City, I HAVEN"T SEEN ANY PROGRESS FROM YOUR CITY TOO!!!!!!!! It's close to NCR but I can't find any big mall there. The land area of that city is so small, that can be compared to a small barangay of Calbayog City.:bash::bash::bash:

Kung ang pagbabasehan natin ay Ayala Center at IT Park sa Cebu, wala talagang ibubuga ang Calbayog at Ormoc. You have to appreciate a place by its own charm. In Calbayog's case, it has that old world yet bustling feel uniquely its own lalo na pag pumunta ka sa Cathedral nila. Pero kung hinahanap mo pang-first world amenities, madi-disappoint ka lang.

The following list draws from the most recent data available (2008) from the Bureau of Local Government Finance (http://www.blgf.gov.ph). There are 175 municipalities out of 1,496 (or 11.7%) that have incomes above PhP 20 million, which was the old income requirement for cityhood. Also included are cities that have posted local incomes lower than PhP 100 million in 2008, for comparison.

Without adjusting for inflation since 2000, there are only 21 municipalities that have met the PhP 100 million local income requirement. Of these, just 19 are eligible for cityhood, because Bauan (Batangas) and Carmona (Cavite) do not meet either the 150,000 population requirement or the 100-sq. km. land area requirement as mandated by current laws.

All the 19 municipalities eligible for cityhood come from either Region III or IV-A. In the top 40 (municipalities with local incomes above PhP 60 million), only 7 come from outside these two regions.

The column "Dependence on own income" is the percentage of the LGU's locally-sourced income as a part of its total income. A high percentage means that the LGU relies heavily on its own revenue collections rather than being dependent on funds from the national government. The most self-reliant municipality is Carmona, with 78.97% of its income actually coming from its own coffers.
A low percentage means that the LGU is mainly being propped up by taxpayer (your) money. Many of the underperforming cities (especially those from the so-called "League of 16") have very low rates of dependence on their own locally-sourced incomes - many under 10%!

What are your thoughts on the matter? Is it justifiable that taxpayer money is being spent on LGUs that don't necessarily perform as well as they should? How do you propose we correct the current system of IRA sharing?

BASED ON THE TABLE ABOVE:
CABUYAO - 630 MILLION
SAN PEDRO - 377 MILLION

THESE TWO CITIES WERE EXCLUDED ALREADY ON THE LIST:
BIÑAN CITY - 734 MILLION
DASMARIÑAS CITY - 662 MILLION (SOURCE: http://www.nscb.gov.ph/headlines/StatsSpeak/2010/101110_rav_gjlc_pv_topmunicipalites.asp)

CALBAYOG CITY HAS 567 MILLION OF TOTAL INCOME, BUT ITS LOCAL INCOME IS ONLY 57 MILLION. SO MAS MATAAS PA DIN ANG INCOME NG SAN PEDRO..:):):)

^^ you better ask why Cabuyao, San Pedro, Binan and Dasmarinas are still not a city... malapit sa Metro Manila yun kaya mauunlad yung mga yun... kung malayo sa Manila yang mga yan hindi uunlad yan... pero ang Calbayog kahit na malayo ay maunlad naman kahit papano... we don't have neighbors like Metro Manila to depend on for our progress. :bash::bash:

Anyway thanks for posting the informative table.

Nasa no 89 pala ang Catarman. Mas mataas pa ang local income kesa matagal nang mga cities like Tangub, Ligao, Canlaon, Samal, Munoz, Sipalay, Dapitan, Himamaylan at Palayan.

When I try, I click on "Insert Image", and it comes up and asks for the URL. I put in the http://texaninthephilippines.com and that's it, it doesn't do anything else. What am I doing wrong?

Right click your pictures from your site and it will say copy image URL and click that copy image URL and the you can paste it to the table that says copy image URL

I've already put that information in my blog at http://texaninthephilippines.com
He told me just yesterday that it should be completed by the end of this month, maybe next month if things get delayed.
He's not sure when they will open for business though, he is just in charge of building it, but he thinks maybe September, which I also have already posted on my website.
I will update things as I find them out on the website.
