Let me give you something to smile about this week: Robinson’s is coming to Calbayog. It’s official, by that I mean the LGU has received a communication from Robinson’s Land Corporation (RLC) and that it is “contemplating the development of a first-class shopping center in Calbayog.” Consistent with the RLC mission to provide the public with an excellent shopping experience, the proposed project will feature a full-service mall that will include the various Robinson’s retail store, popular shops and restaurants, and several entertainment facilities.

More details in my forthcoming columns.

I think RFM will have that tittle but sabi na dati ni @calbayognon na ang RFM at ang katabing lots nito ang gagawing Robinsons so parang yes rin  yung Gaisano kasi ang tagal, 2 years na at wala parin nagsimula ang construction kaya ngayon pumasok na rin ang Robinsons, both Malls sa Rawis raw ibi-build

Catarman will soon have its own version of Borongan's Baybay Boulevard. DENR and Provincial Officials have already mapped out the location last month. It will stretch from near Tamburusan beach along the Dalakit shoreline passing the north end of the runway towards Barangay Baybay in the town propper and will connect with the proposed Catarman River Bank Road at the foot of Dila-dila Sandbar. Temporary residents in the affected areas have already been ordered to vacate the place.

Because of its topography and location, Borongan and Catarman can have the luxury of establishing a boulevard along a shoreline.

Borongan Mayor delivers accomplishment report

by Ninfa B Quirante
BORONGAN, E Samar, Aug 4 (PIA) -- Borongan Mayor Ma Fe Abunda delivered her “Ulat sa Bayan” today at the Borongan City Hall lobby to officials and employees with some Pantawid Pasada beneficiaries.
Mayor Abunda, TV host Boy Abunda’s sister, anounced that she has initiated “Baysay Borongan’ (Beautiful Borongan) project by beautifying the plaza and Baybay Boulevard.
Baybay Boulevard is a haven for late afternoon promenaders with the Pacific Ocean as a scenic backdrop.
She also mentioned collecting revenues for her city that surpassed set targets from 139% to 232%.
Her Infra projects, she said, among which is the renovation of the public market is a way of ‘giving back’ the taxes her administration collected.
She also mentioned acquisition of a ‘Bantay Dagat patrol boat” and brand new firetruck.
As to her health programs, she prided in being able to enroll some 2, 684 poor families to the Philhealth program.
“Through Dr Ethel Lagria, we have conducted medical-dental missions to the remote barangays that can be reached by the Suribao River,” she said.
The lady mayor said she has instituted reforms in the different offices to speed up business transactions.
“The signatories are reduced from 15 to only three and that licenses can be claimed after two hours,” Abunda said.
After enumerating a series of accomplishments, she laid out her plans like establishing a public assistance center, construction of evacuation centers in clustered barangays, drainage projects, a city auditorium, a modern slaughterhouse and sanitary landfill.
“I am requesting the help of the private sector in pushing this programs/projects,” Mayor Abunda said.
“After the fiesta, we will be receiving the Php 3M from Sen Angarafor park beautification,” she bared proudly.
City officials came in resplendent Filipiniana attires with honorable men clad in Barong Tagalog to emulate a “SONA Day” in congress.
After her ‘Ulat sa Bayan” Abunda met the press and clarified some of her pronouncements.
One of her pronouncements that made the media and the audience applaud, was her pronouncement that she is ‘personally against mining’. (NBQ/PIA 8-E Samar)

Wanted: a senator from Eastern Visayas
Philippine Daily Inquirer
12:00 am | Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Columnist Rina Jimenez-David, in her June 24 column, quoted Ladlad senior party adviser Boy Abunda that should he decide to run for office, he would “prefer to run in his home province of Eastern Samar.”
I would suggest to Abunda that he run instead for the Senate to represent Eastern Visayas. There is not a single representative from our region among the present members of the Senate.
Our region is famous for its overabundance of geothermal power, which is much more than enough to provide for all the country’s power needs. We also have abundant marine, mineral and forest resources.
Above all, we have hardy and industrious people who have proven their worth and manliness through the examples of Sumoroy, the legendary World War II heroes Col. Ruperto Kangleon, Maj. Alejandro Balderian, as well as the men who handed the Americans their worst defeat in the Filipino-American War in the historic Balangiga Massacre.
Properly channeled, the energy and enthusiasm of our people could be used for peaceful and productive purposes in livelihood projects.
It is unfortunate that although countryside development is the most effective approach in our national efforts for economic recovery, this particular aspect has been taken for granted. Nowhere is this oversight more blatant than in our very depressed region.
A major reason for this is we do not have a senator to look after our overall regional interests.
We do have our congressmen, but I’m afraid that all of them are preoccupied with their own limited interests.
Because of our abundant natural resources and tremendous human potentials, we need at least two senators who will provide an overall coherent leadership in harnessing our potentials.
They need not necessarily be residing in our region, but they should be credibly identified with Eastern Visayas.
Their militancy for the welfare of our region and their dynamism can create a multiplier impact on our region and provide the vision and magnetism for our local leaders to follow.

former Leyte vice governor
and president, Katiguban Samerenos

Abunda made the announcement on Thursday after he was appointed as the senior political adviser of Ladlad party-list.
Abunda, known for his controversial interviews and opinions, has no experience in politics.
In fact, his appointment by the party-list group Ladlad as senior political adviser is his first foray into politics.
"We need to boost its chances to win in 2013, otherwise, we will lose official accreditation," said Abunda who joined Ladlad last April after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the group as a party worthy of accreditation.
He added: "We have to intensify the fight for the rights of the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community."
But the TV host and talent manager vehemently denied the issue that he is interested to be the next nominee of Ladlad for Congress.
Abunda insisted that he will be more effective as a campaign strategist for Ladlad. The group vowed to push for the anti-discrimination bill and the anti-vagrancy law.
In 2008, Abunda's friend Kris Aquino said that she is willing to give everything to finance the campaign of Abunda if he ever decides to run for public office.
"Seriously and honestly, kung ano man ang mamanahin ko at kung ano man ang pwede naming isanla to fund your campaign, I will do it," Aquino said on "The Buzz."
In her statement, Aquino said that she would really like it if the King of Talk would decide to serve the public.
Aquino admitted that losing her house would affect her, but she is willing to do it just for Abunda's candidacy.
Abunda worked with Aquino in "The Buzz" and the defunct morning show "Boy and Kris.” -- ABS-CBN News

I'm looking forward to Boy Abunda's gubernatorial endeavor and I hope he could bring more to E. Samar. Her sister in an interview in a local radio station in Borongan said that his brother's political plan may still change. S o he might run as governor in the coming 2013 elections. And I also look forward to him running for senate and represent E. Visayas, so that our region will be represented in the Senate.

wow! that's great news for Catarman. I'm pretty sure once the new Blvd is complete, many of Catarman's populace will frequent the place to relax.

Sure. When the Catarman airport runway was not closed to the public a lot of people spend their afternoon at the north-end of the runway while relaxing and facing the pacific ocean to relish the afternoon breeze of the sea. They stay there until dusk even in the absence of facilities and amenities for their comfort.

CALBAYOG CITY – Samar Island has all the ingredients of a prime tourist destination – good surfing and diving sites, beautiful islets with white beaches, historical places, waterfalls, caves, rivers, rapids and other natural wonders for adventurers.

But for a long time, it lacked one important thing for visitors: Accommodation.

Now, tourists can stay in a cozy place as they explore the country’s third largest island composed of the Samar, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar provinces.

Ciriaco Hotel and Resort, the only hotel of its kind in Samar, offers many amenities to the modern tourists – from fine dining to high-speed Internet access in guest rooms.

The de luxe hotel is located along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Bagacay in Calbayog City, just 2 kilometers from the airport, where flights to and from Manila are available.

Tacloban City, another flight end-point from Cebu City and Manila, can be reached in three and a half hours by land travel from the hotel.

Amenities

The frontage of the Hotel Ciriaco Hotel and Resort.

Opened in November last year, the four-story Ciriaco Hotel and Resort offers 45 air-conditioned rooms, two function rooms, a café bar with a band playing nightly from Thursday to Sunday, an al fresco restaurant, a business center and a wide parking space.

“We have complete facilities for tourists and locals,” says Rene C. Eufre, the sales manager.

The rooms are spacious with 37 LCD TVs with cable connections, phones, work desks, luggage racks, rainforest showers, in-room safes and fire safety systems.

Other amenities are laundry and pressing services, personalized wake-up calls and a money exchange service.

Its business center offers secretarial, fax, photocopying and courier services as well ascomputer and presentation equipment rental.

Introductory rates

Eufre says the introductory rates for single rooms are P1,800 for city view and P2,200 for sea view. The rates for rooms with two beds are P2,798 for sea view and P2,398 for city view. Both include free breakfast.

Most of the guests are walk-in customers and those from the government, associations, schools, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing firms, Eufre says.

At present, the hotel is developing a resort at a reclaimed area in the rear, equipped with swimming pools, a spa and a gymnasium.

“We’re targeting [to open the area by] December in preparation for the next summer,” he says.

He expressed optimism that many more customers will come because of the water sport facilities, like jet skiing, kayaking and water rides.

Tour packages

“I need an aggressive tourism right now because there are a lot of natural resources here; maybe we can market [the hotel] to travel agencies,” he says.

He plans to have a tour package to Samar and Northern Samar, such as hopping to the three island municipalities facing Calbayog City and to the nearby Balicuatro Islands.

Other possible itineraries include several waterfalls in Calbayog and to the Samar Island Natural Park, where tourists can do mountain trekking and extreme boat riding.

Hotel owner Ciriaco “Tony” Uy Tan, who has been successful in the motorcycle and cinema businesses, says he is happy that he is helping Samar’s tourism industry.

A first-timer in this kind of business, Tan reveals that he was encouraged by the city mayor and the congressman to put up a big hotel in Calbayog to cater mainly to foreign and local tourists.

N. Samar towns receive P4.4M patrol boats to curb illegal fishing
Sep 13th, 2011 @ 12:42 am

TACLOBAN CITY - Eleven patrol boats worth P4.4 million will be turned over by the national government to Northern Samar this month in the bid to curb illegal fishing in 10 municipalities of the province.

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Director Juan Albaladejo said that patrol boats will raise the local government units' capability to fight illegal activities within the municipal waters.

"This will contribute to unified efforts against this prohibited activity. Illegal fishing is quiet rampant in Northern Samar and we want this to be properly coordinated by the provincial government and municipal government," Albaladejo told Leyte Samar Daily Express.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources National Director Asis Perez will lead the turn over ceremony scheduled this month.

Recipients of this project are the towns of Bobon, Pambujan, Mondragon, San Vicente, Allen, Lavezares, Catarman, San Isidro, Lapinig, and Rosario. One unit will also be given to the provincial government for its Bantay Dagat team.

"We consider those areas with existing municipal fishing ordinance. Local government units will be providing manpower and shoulder training expenses of the team," Albaladejo added.

The official is hoping that with the new patrol boats, illegal trade of crab juveniles will be stopped as well as unregulated catching of sardines in the northwestern point of the province.

"LGUs should be the one in the pipeline in monitoring illegal fishing activities. Most of the illegal fishing is within the municipal waters done in both small scale and commercial scale. Some of the fishers are from Bicol Region and Masbate province," Albaladejo added.

Municipal waters are coastal zone within the 15 meters from the shoreline. LGUs are tasked to monitor and regulate activities within the area.

Each boat costs P400,000. It is made of hardwood and equipped with GPS, blue horn, and lighting facilities. With GPS, team can follow tracks of illegal fishing activities and prevent intrusions in municipal waters.

"This is the largest number of patrol boats that will be turned over by the national government in just one area," Albaladejo said.

Also, three mud crab hatcheries will also rise in Northern Samar, the first facility in the country that will address the dwindling catch of this marine product.

The national government will invest around P122.87 million in the next five years to raise the output of mud crab from six tons at present to 66 tons by 2016. Initial locations were identified in towns of Palapag, Laoang, Rosario, San Roque or Pambujan. (SARWELL Q. MENIANO)

DBM to Release FY 2012 IRA Adjustments

source: http://leytesamardaily.net/2011/09/dbm-to-release-fy-2012-ira-adjustments/

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will be releasing adjusted figure of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) in relation to the conversion of the sixteen (16) Municipalities into Cities which includes the municipalities of Baybay, Borongan and Catbalogan in Region 8. Last June 28, 2011, the Supreme Court issued yet again another final entry of judgment on to the constitutionality of the Cityhood laws of the 16 Cities. On this regard, there is a need to re-allocate the FY 2012 IRA shares of Local Government Units (LGUs) per Local Budget Memorandum (LBM) No. 65 – FY 2012 IRA level and related budget preparation matters.

The IRA re-allocation was due to the transfer of the population count and land area measurement of the 16 Municipalities into Cities. On that note, the total share of the Cities increased from P62.327 Billion to P62.382 Billion or by 9% equivalent to P54.809 Million. On the contrary, the total share of the Municipalities was decreased by the same amount or 6% from P93.399 Billion to P93.344 Billion.

While the total share of the Cities increased, the individual share of each of the 122 existing Cities decreased considering the decrease in the IRA level of 4.8% in FY 2012 as compared to the FY 2011 level plus the inclusion of the 16-newly converted Cities. Albeit the decrease in the FY 2012 IRA level by 4.8% of the 1,484 Municipalities, their recomputed share resulted to an aggregate decrease of 2% to3% only.

The best gainers in this re-allocation would be the 16 newly converted Cities which will expect an increase ranging from 122% to 239% compared to their FY 2011 share as Municipalities. For the FY 2012, the baby Cities in the region; Baybay, Borongan and Catbalogan will have bountiful IRA shares of P395,683,421.00, P362,746,676.00, P310,724,330.00 from P136,081,821.00, P102,080,548.00, P114,011,691.00 respectively.

In the foregoing adjustments, only the IRA shares of the Cities and Municipalities were affected while the shares of the Provinces and the Barangays remains the same level per LBM No. 65. (Absal N. Abah)

65. (Absal N. Abah)

wow! Borongan is the biggest gainer! imagine from 102M magiging 362M na ang IRA?! ang laki ng magagawa ng malaking IRA for the city and its constituents.

Teka magandang issue seguro ito for discussion... ant tanong . . .
What are the tallest buildings in Samar Island in terms of number of floor levels?. . .

Catarman - EVCC 6 floors, GV Hotel - 5 floors, St Lawrence Hotel - 5 floors, CSLRM -5 floors

I'll have to agree to you on that, hindi nga gaanong kagandahan ang bldg.

Exactly, but thing is the buildings in Samar aren't that tall and I don't think that the City or Municipal Engineering office would care to find out the official height of these blgds.I think the only way we could get the exact official height in feet or meters of these bldgs is to measure them manually.anyone? any volunteers?hahaha! kust kidding. Usually, commercial/office buildings have higher floor to ceiling heights than residential bldgs. And I think buildings in Samar with more than 4 storeys are all commercial/school bldgs so I would suppose that more or less floor to ceiling heights of these bldgs are the same.

Based on the pictures parang 6-storey building lang ito.

PNP foils heist at LBC Borongan branch

BORONGAN CITY – The planned attempt of a high profile robbery hold-up operating in Metro Manila to strike a heist at the LBC Borongan branch was foiled by a joint-elements of police authorities at the Eastern Samar Police Office (ESPPO) under Police Supt. Manuel Cubillo at a checkpoint at Brgy. Bato, this city, last week.

Based on police reports and other documents obtained from Police Chief Insp. Edwin Barbosa, community relation officer in Camp Asidillo, as early as Sept. 3, ESPPO had already received information from PRO-8 that a robbery hold-up gang was about to strike a robbery hold-up at the LBC Borongan branch located at the basement of the Uptown Mall in Brgy. Songco, this city. Immediately the city police was alerted and intensive surveillances were conducted and checkpoints were established on strategic entry and exit points by the provincial police, the report said.

Meanwhile, at the LBC Borongan branch, an employee, who declined to be named, told Leyte Samar Daily Express said that on Sept. 4 , three persons, two men and a woman, went to LBC in the morning to send a “padala.” After the three had left another two men entered and sent another padala and after the two men let another two entered and acted suspiciously. One started asking questions about their operations and even ventured to peek inside their booth. But the timely arrival of a policeman from the city PNP prompted the two me to leave immdiately, the source said.

But before that incident the LBC branch in Tacloban City had already alerted them that the its branch here in Borongan could be the next target of the robberyhold-up gang after it had victimized their branches in Catarman, Tacloban and Naval in Biliran and a non-government organization office in Calubian,Leyte. One of the six men captured by the close circuit surveillance camera provided to them by the LBC appeared as one of those who entered their office, the source said.

On Sept. 6, at around 11:27 a.m. at an established check-point by the ESPPO in Brgy. Bato, this city, seven police men led by PO1 Aldo Mendiola flagged down two vehicles loaded with armed men. One vehicle, an SUV Nissan black Safari with Plate No. TKJ-989 was driven by Jose Paulo Raymund Arrieta Cruz, 30, single and on board were Julius Macabontoc Andallo, 25, married, both residents of La Loma, Quezon City while the other vehicle is a Hyundai Starex van, silver in color with Plate No. WFF-394 driven by Rodmanric Relenas y Bernardino, 34, resident of Bagong Ilog, Pasig City and on board were Danilo Blanque Padilla Jr., 38, and Novo Ian Gabriel Galanto, 31, all residents of La Loma, Quezon City.

Upon visual searches by the PNP, the group yielded several firearms which include one Taurus, cal. 40 with one magazine and 14 ammunitions; .45 with two magazines and 21 ammunitions; One Glock, caliber 40 with 5 magazines and 90 ammunitions; one Millienum Taurus, caliber .45 with two magazines with 20 ammunitions; 4 pieces bullet-proof vests, among others.

Due to the inability of the suspects to present any document authorizing them to carry firearms and pending further verifications from Camp Crame of their firearms and vehicles used, the PNP arrested and detained them at the provincial jail.

A case of illegal possession of firearms under PD1866 as amended by RA 8294 were filed against the suspects.

Meanwhile, in relation to the attempted robbery hold-up at the LBC Borongan Branch, a team led by senior officers of the provincial police arrested two suspects believed to be members of the Arrieta holdup gang in Brgy. Balud, Borongan last Sept. 8 at 5 p.m.

They were identified as Rommel Catubay, 29, married, a truck driver and Ruel Busa , 23, married, a laborer and both residents of Brgy. Omawas, Maydolong, Eastern Samar. Initial police investigations revealed that the said team received an information that the two were seen at Brgy. Balud with short firearm. Upon arrival at the scene, the police officers saw that the two were about to leave with motorcyce without a plate number.Confiscated from them were one unit Colt 45 with loaded with five ammunitions ;one Smith & Wesson cal. 38 without loaded with five ammunitions. Both suspects are now detained at the provincial jail. (PIO L. CALVO)

5 suspected carnappers, robbers arrested by police in Borongan

TACLOBAN CITY – Five suspected car thieves and robbers were arrested by the Philippine National Police in Eastern Samar on Tuesday.

Governor Conrado Nicart joins guest-actor Ryan Yllana in yesterday's Padul-ong Parade. Nicart and Yllana practically marched the whole 'nine yards'-Padul-ong route of five to seven kilometers. Padul-ong is a Borongan fiesta festival in honor of its patroness the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. (N. Quirante)

Police Chief Inspector Edwin Barbosa, police and community relations head of Eastern Samar PNP, said yesterday that the five suspected carnappers who were believed to have come from Quezon City were flag downed and arrested in a checkpoint by police authorities in Borongan City.
Arrested were identified as Jose Paulo Arietta, 30, Julius Macabontoc, 27, Danilo Blanque Jr.,38, and Ian Gabriel Novo, 31, all from La Loma, Quezon City and a certain Rodmanric Relenas, 34, from Pasig City who were aboard vehicles, suspected to be stolen, at the time of the arrest.

“We still have to establish whether or not the vehicles were really stolen but based on our initial information they were really carnapped,” he said when reached through his mobile phone.

Barbosa said one Hyundai Starex van and a Nissan Safarri car with at least five high-powered firearms and bonnets were seized from the suspects. Based on their initial investigation, more than P60,000 cash were also recovered from the suspects.

The firearms were found to be licensed but are still under verification because of the doubtful footing and conduct of the suspects, he emphasized.

Police investigation revealed that last week, the suspects staged an attempted holdup in one of the LBC branches in Borongan City but was aborted due to some circumstances.

“And what is more surprising here is the fact that they were identified by some of the witnesses of LBC-Tacloban as the group responsible for the robbery in their branch,” he informed.

As of press time, the suspects were detained in Borongan police station and are were charged for illegal possession of firearms and deadly weapons.

“The illegal possession of firearms and deadly weapons is the case which we can only file against them for the meantime because of the strong evidence,” he said. (ALVIN P. CARDINES)

Based on the pictures parang 6-storey building lang ito.

Exactly my point.:)

Yup it could be 6-storeys pero based on this picture parang may pang 7th floor pero hindi siya buo yung floor na yun.

In fact, yung isang public elem school, nagkaroon sila ng rule for some time that they don't allow kids to go home unless may sundo or kung wala ay ipasasabay nila sa isang kapitbahay na sumusundo din ng anak. Although, as to the veracity of the news about a van going around and kidnapping kiddos, wala naman yatang report from the police na talagang may nangyaring ganun.

Filipinos should support their world-class musicians, not only boxers and beauty-contest runners-up (http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/14717/filipinos-should-support-their-world-class-musicians-not-only-boxers-and-beauty-contest-runners-up)
Filipinos all over the world should not support only Filipino boxers and beauty queens, but also world-class Filipino musicians here and abroad.

Arthur Espiritu, the first Filipino tenor to invade La Scala di Milan, has just wrapped up a major role in “Don Giovanni” in Austria, “Barber of Seville” and “ La Cenerentola,” and is girding for his first Verdi role.

Last week, Espiritu debuted with Met Opera star John Releya and Brenda Harris in a Washington, DC, concert. As of press time, he will finish the rest of his “Don Giovanni” performances with Bruckner Orchester under Martin Sieghart until the end of this month.

On October 8, Espiritu will be heard for the first time at the CCP Main Theater for a special concert with soprano Rachelle Gerodias, baritone Andrew Fernando, tenor Lemuel de la Cruz, tenor George Yang, with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Rodel Colmenar.

Next month, Otoniel Gonzaga, the first Filipino tenor to sing the role of Verdi’s Otello, is back in Vienna next month as King Herod in “Salome.”

Andrew Fernando in Samar

Baritone Andrew Fernando, who is doing a contemporary opera called “Pocahontas” in Minnesota after his triumph in a Shostakovich operetta in California, will be heard for the first time in Calbayog City, Samar, as part of the First Samar International Music Festival on December 5 at the Ciriaco Hotel Ballroom.

Violinist Gina Medina and pianist Mary Anne Espina will open the Samar festival on October 29. Heeding the call for a renaissance of classical music in Samar, Representative Mel Senen Sarmiento sponsored the domestic air tickets of the artists going to the festival.

The impact of the trio performance of violinist Joseph Esmilla, cellist Victor Michael Coo and pianist Rudolf Golez in the latest UP Balay Kalinaw concert was such that it resonated all over Metro Manila with requests for repeat performances in the provinces.

Esmilla and Golez will perform in a new program at UP Los Baños Umali Hall (Los Baños, Laguna) on October 15, 7 p.m. They will repeat their Balay Kalinaw performance on October 21, 7 p.m.

The Los Baños concert is the first anniversary presentation of Dalcielo Restaurant and Bakeshop managed by Marissa de Jesus and Pinky Halos.

Licad

I had a long talk with Cecile Licad gushing over the superb trio. I asked her, “Can you do the Tchaikovsky Trio with Esmilla and Coo in the same venue?”

“Why not?” came the answer.

Licad recently dazzled the Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea in a chamber-music program that included Chausson’s Concerto for Violin and Piano and String Quartet, Shostakovitch’s Piano Quintet; Bartok’s Contrast with Violin and Clarinet; Bach’s Keyboard Concerto in A Major with Chamber Orchestra; Bartok’s Percussion and Two Pianos; and Schumann Andante for Two Pianos and Two Cellos and Horn.

Licad was called a “Bach specialist” after the performance.

After Korea, she headed for the Santa Fe Music Festival for a recital and a chamber-music program with Filipino pianist Victor Asuncion.

The result was sheer euphoria.

A Filipino fan of Licad, Dr. Lara Halili, flew all the way to Santa Fe and reported another sold-out and well-received concert.

Licad is headed for Hawaii next month for Tchaikovsky No. 1, and then another recital and chamber-music engagement in Stockholm, Sweden (a Swedish debut), on October 29; after which she rehearses another live Gottchalk music for the film “Louie,” for its London premiere on November 20.

They can watch the remaining performance of tenor Espiritu in Linz, Austria, in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”; relish tenor Gonzaga as King Herod in the Oct. 15 premiere of “Salome” in Vienna; and enjoy baritone Andrew Fernando in “Pocahontas” in Minnesota till the end of this month.

They can also support Licad when she performs with the Honolulu Symphony October 15; in Stockholm, Sweden, on October 29; and in London on November 20.

For tickets to the Esmilla-Coo-Golez concerts, call (02) 7484152 or 0906-5104270. For the Samar concerts, check with Ciriaco Hotel in Calbayog City at tel. (032) 7104208.

I'm happy to announce that the website Discover Northern Samar (http://discovernorthernsamar.com) is up again.

It has a new look, totally different from the previous one.

Still a lot to be done with regards to content. Whew!

Maraming salamat, catar. Yes, sana nga matapos ko ito agad. Kung meron nga lang akong time to go around the province, at kung meron nga lang akong maraming resources hehehe. Sana may free tour dyan ang Department of Tourism ng probinsya hahaha. Yung ibang probinsya merong ganung promotion, I got invited sometime ago as a blogger sa isang probinsya. Free yung tour.

This is good news. Minsan din, sa preference ng tourist talaga. While there are tourist who go for serene places, I know of some frequent travelers who prefer places na maraming gimikan at may magagandang accommodation. Pero para sa akin, Biri should stay that way: serene, calm, peaceful, raw. Ang isa lang sa naisip ko, what if may tourist na gustong mag-poop habang andun sa mga rock formation? hehehehe
