wala ahh, para sa recollection namin yan...

Ah ok.

According to a blog admin, the best beach in the province for swimming can be found in Panganoron beach at Panganoron island, because of clear waters and white sand. Kaya lang may problema pala ang ownership between the Palacios and the few residents kaya di natuloy. This used to be a cattle ranch of the Palacios, owners of Palacio shipping. The island is opposite Sila island where Pink beach is located

Airlines to serve new Eastern and Northern Samar routes (http://www.pia.gov.ph/news/index.php?article=1141328942293)
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Feb. 11 (PIA) -- Two airline companies in the country will start to service Samar Island in two weeks’ time.

The first commercial flight at the Guiuan Airport in Eastern Samar will take off on February 20 as the Mid-Sea Express will conduct is maiden flight for the Cebu-Guiuan route on that day.

Meanwhile, Eagle Trans Asia Airways Corp. (ETA Air) will serve the Catarman-Cebu and Catarman-Tacloban routes starting February 22.

Northern Samar Governor Paul Daza said that ETA Air will field a 29-seater aircraft to serve Catarman, capital town of Northern Samar.

"The 29-seater aircraft will both load passengers and cargo. There will be additional economic trade between Tacloban and direct link between Catarman and Cebu," Northern Samar Governor Paul R. Daza told the local media.

Governor Daza said that the introduction of this link will shorten travel time between Cebu and Catarman and the travel time between Catarman and Tacloban.

Currently, travelers from Catarman have to go to Tacloban which is five hours away by land, or to Manila to get to Cebu.

The aircraft will depart from Cebu for Catarman at 8:00 a.m. and is estimated to arrive at 8:35 a.m. The plan will leave for Tacloban at 9 a.m. and from Tacloban, it will leave for Catarman at 9:40 a.m. From Catarman, it will fly back to Cebu at 10:20 a.m.

The airline added that they will operate with the route every Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Meanwhile, Guiuan Analiza Gonzales Kwan confirmed that the launching of the Mid-Sea Express service in Guiuan is on February 20.

Mayor Kwan said the Mid-Sea Express service will greatly help boost tourism in Guiuan, the jump-off point to surfing destination Calicoan Island.

Guiuan is 109 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Borongan City and 154 kilometers from Tacloban City.

On its website, the airline company said its 19-seater Jetstream 32 aircraft will serve the Cebu-Guiuan route at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Mondays, and the Guiuan-Cebu route at 12:00 noon on Saturdays and Mondays. (PIA8)

Do you have the rankings of the final result of the EVRAA? paki post naman.

1st Leyte
2nd Eastern Samar
3rd Maasin City
4th Ormoc City
5th Tacloban City
6th Samar
7th Northern Samar

International medical team conducts free surgeries in Northern Samar (http://leytesamardaily.net/2012/02/international-medical-team-conducts-free-surgeries-in-northern-samar/)
CATARMAN, N.Samar – Around 30 medical workers composed of doctors and nurses from the United States of America (USA) and from Manila have returned to Northern Samar to once again perform major surgeries on needy patients free of charge.

Renowned reconstructive surgeon and medical philanthropist Dr. Hildegardes Dineros, founder of the Nuestra Senora de Salvacion Charity Hospital Foundation Incorporated led the way for the team that include medical experts from the International Surgical Mission (ISM) Group of Colorado, USA led by Dr. Paul Bradway; the Liliane Foundation, and a group of volunteer doctors and staff from the St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) in Manila.

The team arrived in Catarman on Wednesday and started their 9-day free medical services right the following Thursday at the facilities of Laoang and Mondragon towns.

Based on their bulletin, the medical mission team this year will perform major surgical operations on various conditions like hernia (herniorrhapy), thyroid (thyrodictomy), hydrocolectomy, excision, masectomy, appendectomy, hysiterectomy and other physiological problems. Surgeries on these will be done at the G.B. Tan Memorial Hospital in Laoang beginning February 8 until February 16.

Minor surgeries on cases like lip-cleft palate, cyst and other small operations will be conducted at the Bugko Mabuhay Center in Mondragon town.

All local government units in the province were advised to send their patients to these sites to avail of the rare opportunity of getting free surgeries, and even free medicines from the medical mission team.

For many years, Dr. Dineros has been bringing the “SMILE FOREVER PROGRAM” to Northern Samar were hundreds of patients mostly children with cleft-palates were operated on successfully.

This year as part of her mission, Dineros will give free artificial prosthetics to arm or hand amputees.

Student and faculty from the University of the Philippines (UEP) College of Nursing provided local assistance to the medical mission team.

Joe Lim, pesident of the Rotary Club of Catarman, announced that registration is still open for patients who wish to avail of free services from the medical mission.

“For listing of patients from the first district they can go to Sugbaan sa Northwood (in Catarman) and patients from the second district can go directly to the G.B. Tan Memorial Hospital in Laoang,” Lim said.

Since 2007, the Rotary Club of Catarman has been backing up this International Surgical Mission to Northern Samar, along with the Nuestra Senora de Salvacion Foundation, the provincial government of Northern Samar, the Vice Mayors League (NS), the Free and Accepted Mason Lodge 211 and the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) (RACHEL V. Usap-usapan dito na hindi na pala matutuloy ang Gaisano sa Catarman dahil hindi raw pumayag ang isa sa dalawang ayaw ipagbili na lote sa may frontage.

The commercial space to the right used to be part of the Auditorium bleachers. The bleachers were demolished together with the perimeter fence and the decades-old acacia trees were cut down, to give way to the construction of the Covered Court and some commercial space at one side. Now the place is occupied by a drugstore "Genereka"

Ganun ba yon?

The reason why San Juan and Navotas were converted into cities is because both of them reached the 150,000 population requirement. The cityhood law requires a municipality to have at least 150,000 population OR at least 100 square kilometers of contagious territory to qualify as a city. And with regards to the income requirement both has no problems as well.

I think it's really up to our lawmakers or congressmen who represents us at Congress. Kung nagfile lang sana ang Cong. ng 1st district of Northern Samar noon, before pa narevise ang cityhood law, for sure city na rin ngayon ang Catarman.

I think you've been misguided.

http://www.chanrobles.com/republicactno9009.html

Sec. 3. Effectivity Clause. — This Act shall take effect on June 30, 2001 following its complete publication in at least two (2) national newspapers of general circulation.

Ang pinaglalaban ng mga municipalities na involved is nag file na sila ng cityhood before pa na implement yung law.

so since the law should have took effect on June 30, 2001, mukhang nahuhuli na sila, diba 2006 sila nag-apply for cityhood? but anyways let's not regret the decision if the SC, because E.V. got three new cities, Catbalogan, Baybay and Borongan

:ohno::ohno::ohno:

there are several classification of cities kasi. may mga tinatawag na "chartered city" and perfect example dapat is Calbayog City although NSCB classifies it as a component city, though their special charter prohibits them from voting for provincial elective officials in the province which they were a component of before becoming a city. Calbayog should have been classified as "chartered city" instead because it is independent from the province of Samar, correct me if i'm wrong though since those forumers here who are residents of Calbayog will know much better if they vote independently from that of the province of Samar. Ang alam ko they have their own representative in Congress.

Basically, chartered cities dati, were formed by virtue of an act of Congress through a special charter kahit di mameet ang requirements, BUT that was before the implementation ng Local Govt. Code IN 1991. Ngayon kailangan ng maka comply sa RA 7190 (LGC) and further amendments, RA 9009, bago maging city, yan ang bone of contention ngayon sa isang article sa impeachment about judicial decisions specifically the new cities.Siguro yung ibang cities na nabanggit nyo are also created by a special charter.

Chartered Cities - Cities that have been created by an Act of Congress and are run as an independent government with the Mayor as its Chief Executive, a Vice-Mayor, City Council, one Congressional District and Representative per every 250,000 population count(ngayon, dati hindi), a Police force, a common seal, and the power to take, purchase, receive, hold, lease, convey, and disposes of real and personal property for the general interests of the City, condemn private property for public use (eminent domain), contract and be contracted with, sue and exercise all the powers conferred to it by Congress.

Catarman can very well become a city kung gugustuhin ng mga Daza TALAGA. esp. since ang lakas nila kay Pnoy. So the Dazas should take advantage of this close relationship dapat, para sa ikakaunlad na TALAGA ng N.Samar. Bihira kayang mangyari yang ganyan na close sa President at may Samar faction pa na KKK sa Malacanang.

San Juan and Navotas are classified as highly urbanized cities. Highly Urbanized Cities - Cities with a minimum population of two hundred thousand (200,000) inhabitants, as certified by the National Statistics Office, AND with the latest annual income of at least Fifty Million Pesos (P50,000,000.00) based on 1991 constant prices, as certified by the city treasurer.

They should take advantage of it.

Yaps Calbayog is a chartered city but its residents are allowed to vote or be elected to provincial elective positions of the Province of Samar. The congressman though from Calbayog City represents the first district of Samar which does not confine to the territorial jurisdiction of Calbayog City but includes some other towns like Sta Margarita, Gandara, S Jorge, Tarangnan, the island towns or Tagapul-sn, Almagro and Sto Nino, and the interior towns of Matuguinao and S Jose de Buan

Finally, D Day! I'm still wondering whether or not ETA air would be flying the catarman-cebu route, after a month of their announcement. If they are legally operating, they must have a hangar and a legal phone line or contact number which are first requirement to get Air Operator's Certificate and Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessities. I tried to contact the number to inquire about ticketing office, the one who answered said their office is in Talisay, Cebu and not connected with ETA, the other phone number was answered by a kid! I hope we'll all find out the truth.

ETA-AIR now in Region 8
(http://leytesamardaily.net/2012/02/eta-air-now-in-region-8/)

Eagle Trans-Asia Airways (ETA-AIR) is the newest airline to operate in Region 8. To reduce the long and stressful travel by land or sea, ETA-AIR introduces new means of transportation by air to provinces that are presently accessible by land or sea travel only. Most of its routes are not yet serve by other airlines in the Philippines.
The Eagle Trans-Asia Airways mission is to provide passengers and cargo charterer with superb airline service at competition rate and taking into account the highest level of aviation safety and of efficiency of every flight. It aims to be the best, the most professional and the most cost-efficient airline in Asia.

Founded in 2006, ETA-Air has laid the ground work for airline charter non-scheduled services between the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. Its base of operations will be Cebu because of strategic opportunities but will continue to enjoy operating authority at NAIA as well.

Cebu, being in the center is also the biggest transit point in the Philippines wherein majority of the transit travelers around 90% of them left with no choice just settle for sea and land transport only.

How pleasant it is if we can arrive at our destination in just 30 minutes instead of spending 10 hours in sea/land travel. ETA-Air will fulfill all this by providing fast, safety, reliable and enjoyable air travel for all types of travelers.

In Region 8, new routes will be Cebu-Catarman-Tacloban and Calbayog-Cebu four (4) times a week but the Cebu-Tacloban route will be on a daily basis. The promo rate for Catarman – Tacloban route is P849 while Cebu-Tacloban is P1,300 with snacks and newspaper. It operates on a 29 seaters. Jetstream 41 for a really fast and convenient travel.

It will offer a special flight during summer from Tacloban to Caticlan (Boracay) on a 29 seaters Jetstream 41 to provide the Warays fast and convenient travel to Boracay.

The General Sales Agent of ETA-Air in Leyte and Tacloban is Mr. Brian Villegas. He is the authorized agent to market, distribute and sell airline tickets of ETA-Air, the newest airline based in Cebu.

Booking offices are at the Tacloban Airport, Robinsons Mall, and Blackgold Agrivet, Burgos St., Tacloban City.

ETA-Air inaugural flight to Tacloban from Cebu is on Friday, February 24, 2012.

The proposed Baybay Boulevard will expand parallel to the beach in the foreground. It will extend to the left past the north-end of the rundway, and north of Brgy Baybay and will turn right to the Catarman riverbanks. On the opppsite side, it will extend to the right towards the end of Brgy Dalakit at the back of CNHS. Future plans includes extending to Bobon town through the beach area.

so since the law should have took effect on June 30, 2001, mukhang nahuhuli na sila, diba 2006 sila nag-apply for cityhood? but anyways let's not regret the decision if the SC, because E.V. got three new cities, Catbalogan, Baybay and Borongan

correction lang. hindi 2006 nag-apply yung 16 cities. Instead, 2006 na approve yung cityhood nila. the 16 cities applied way way back pa. As early as 1960, Catbalogan already agitated to become a city. In 1969, Rep. Fernando P. Veloso sponsored House Bill No. 1867 creating Catbalogan into a city. The bill was being deliberated in the Philippine Senate, but the conflagration of 1969 unfortunately caused it to be shelved.

RDC-8 approves Samar Is. tourism master development plan (http://leytesamardaily.net/2012/02/rdc-8-approves-samar-is-tourism-master-development-plan/)
TACLOBAN CITY – The Regional Development Council (RDC-8) formally approved the endorsement during its latest executive meeting the newly drafted Samar Island tourism master development plan, which is being drafted to guide stakeholders in making the island an alternative tourist destination by 2016.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-8) Regional Director Cynthia Nierras, who presented the newly formulated plan in place of DOT-8 Director Karina Rosa Tiopes during the executive meeting, said the plan provides a framework and direction for tourism development is the three provinces of Samar Island.

“This master plan has been drafted to harness tourism potentials, protect national resources, conserve cultural heritage and develop community-based tourism project,” Nierras said.

She also presented to the body that the plan, which was drafted by the Samar tourism stakeholders and consultancy firm Berkman International, also lists major infrastructure projects to support tourism promotion. These include completion of a circumferential road, upgrading of the national highway, opening of access roads to tourist spots, construction of diversion roads, and airport upgrading.

According to Nieras, among the areas considered in the master development plan include the identification of strategic tourism development areas, marketing component, physical infrastructure development, social analysis, gender considerations.

Site validation was conducted in identified attractions to find out what types of development that is appropriate for each attraction. The aspirations of the local people in Samar Island were also documented and were considered as basis for introducing tourism development.

Samar Island, which is home to eco-tourism adventure, cultural and heritage sites, and rich marine life, is identified as an emerging tourism destination.

Earlier, tourism stakeholders in three Samar provinces identified 18 destinations that will be prioritized in the master plan, aiming to make the country’s third largest island as tourist haven by 2016. Samar Island also has the largest cave and most amazing adventure tourists since last year, according to the Samar Island Natural Park.

Among the known destinations in the island are the Sohoton Natural Bridge National Park in Basey, Calbiga caves in Calbiga, the network of waterfalls in Calbayog City, all in Samar; the Biri Protected Seascapes in Biri; the San Antonio Beaches in San Antonio, both in Northern Samar; the Borongan-Llorente forest canopy in Borongan, Samar; and surfing on Calicoan Island, Guiuan, both in Eastern Samar.

The tourism department is hoping that local government officials will not just set aside the plan for tourism, an industry eyed by stakeholders that would address poverty in Samar once developed. (AHLETTE C. REYES)

A magnitude-4.9 quake jolted the Eastern Samar area in Eastern Visayas Saturday afternoon, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was tectonic in origin and was recorded at 3:01 p.m.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter was traced to 40 km northeast of San Julian in Eastern Samar.

Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity III in Oras, Eastern Samar.

It also said no damage or aftershock was expected from the quake.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.0. It said the epicenter was traced to:

- 65 km north of Guiuan, Samar
- 82 km east-northeast of Tacloban, Leyte
- 125 km east-southeast of Calbayog, Samar

Linupak na Pilipig with Silot/buko, oh what a tasty delicacy for the Visayans. Add a sip with a buko juice then you have a sumptuous snack.
You mentioned about "laptuk" (palm inflamation) yea, I had it so many times becasue of the hard grip on that wooden stuff while pounding hardly on the pilipig. It cause the thickening of my palms, but no regrets.

did you miss the rhythmic triple sound of the pounding as in . . . tung, tung, tung. . .tung, tung, tung. . . tung, tung tung. . . and when you get lost in the rhythm your pound will be bumped out and some of the pilipig will get out to the soil.

Haha!

I just can't seem to find it.
