DTI Provincial Director Rolando Acuña issued the clarification after receiving report that some quarters are disseminating information that there exist an agreement between the DTI and the PRC. “Insofar as the DTI is concerned, specifically on the issue of processing of licenses, original or renewal, the same is no longer legally permissible considering that RESA, when it took effect on 30 July 2009, has explicitly repealed the very law upon which DTI anchored its mandate to regulate real estate service practice, i.e., Act No. 2728 as amended, specifically Section 3 (e) and (ee) thereof,” Acuña said. “By law, PRC as of 30 July 2009 has stepped into the shoes of DTI on matters pertaining to licensing of real estate practitioners. Thus, discharge of the erstwhile responsibilities of DTI is now within the exclusive powers of PRC,” Acuña added. He said the DTI is legally constrained to undertake the duties of PRC under the Act in the absence of any provision in RESA conferring the DTI with relevant hold-over powers pending the finalization of the Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) and by virtue of the operating principle of delegate potestas non potest delegari barring the sub-delegation of statutory powers absent any legal provisions or statutory powers absent any legal provision or statute conferring power. He added thus, assuming for the sake of argument DTI will perform any of the related act, the same will be tantamount to encroachment on PRC’s jurisdiction that will render it not only null and void but illegal as well. He advised the concerned sector that for further queries on the matter they could inquire with the DTI-Zamboanga City office or call them at telephone numbers (062)991-27-04, (062)991-27-05 or (062)990-21-77. La Trinidad, Benguet’s Laruan, runnerup in the 2009 Asian Martial Arts Games (AMAG), outpointed Jay Leomar Malubay of Cagayan de Oro in the -60kg final. Sole survivor of the national’s juggernaut in the tourney presented by PTT Philippines Corporation was Quezon City’s Danilo Dilag, former national team member, who turned the tables on veteran Ronnie Catampalan of Antipolo City in the -51 class. This brings to almost 10,000 beneficiaries that the city government has enrolled in PhilHealth in a week’s time, making Zamboanga City the first and only city thus far in Western Mindanao to have achieved the “universal coverage” status pursuant to R.A. 7875 as amended by R.A. 9241. PhilHealth Regional Vice President Romeo Alberto, who attended yesterday’s distribution program, presented to Mayor Lobregat the list of PhilHealth beneficiaries in Region 9 placing Zamboanga City on top with a total of 179,459 beneficiaries from the private sector and government sponsorships. It was learned that the PhilHealth will soon be organizing a special event in which Zamboanga City will be formally declared a “universal coverage” area for the government’s primary health care insurance program. Yesterday’s distribution program was highlighted by the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the city government represented by the chief executive, PhilHealth and MEMPCO for the health care insurance grant of P1,200 each. However, under the agreement, the city government will subsidize the insurance of the 4,018 beneficiaries at P120 each for the period of one year while the MEMPCO or the members themselves will pay the remaining P480. To recall, Lobregat last Monday distributed PhilHealth cards to almost 4,000 indigents including members of Task Force Tuberculosis in line with the city’s accelerated health program designed to ensure that the marginalized and deserving sectors of the city will have something to turn to in cases of health problems and emergencies. On Thursday last week, the chief executive also expanded the PhilHealth coverage to 1,952 beneficiaries, of whom 1, 500 came from the urban poor sector, 253 persons with disabilities; 35 deportees, 42 barangay nutrition scholars, 89 day care workers (renewal), 10 retired barangay health workers (renewal) and 23 child care workers. Lobregat stressed that the improved financial condition of the city has enabled the local government to expand the number of beneficiaries of the health insurance program from 5,000 in 2007 to a total of 14,000 this year or approximately four times more than the number when he assumed his second term in office as mayor. windlady October 1st, 2009, 12:55 PM ^^ Takezono na pala ang name ng resto jan? Yellow beach din ang tawag sa Golf.. BOGOA pud nimo bay ui..Yellow beach is in Sinunuc.. here's an Article of Icelle Borja.. IcelleARTicles: Mirrors of our Past - The Liberation of Zamboanga and our Heroes (part 2) By: Icelle Gloria Durano Borja Sixty three years ago, today March 10, 1945, we reminisce a fateful day in Zamboanga’s history, when the City was “Liberated “ by the American Forces together with our Filipino Soldiers, Veterans and the Guerillas. Last March 10, 2005- we witnessed the reenactment of the historical event in a tableau of Seabees, amphibious landing, jets circling the bright Zamboanga sky, amidst gunshots and artillery shelling, as the marines make the final beach landings in the Sinunuc area. The reenactment was witnessed by many locals, Americans, and distinguished personalities who came far and wide to participate and witness the victory of the event. It was a momentous nostalgic affair when the American forces finally made touchdown to liberate the city from the bondage of the Japanese Imperial Army. To the collective mind and experience of that day, it was indeed the ‘Landing of the Eagle” In their all–out operation to liberate the city from the Japanese, the U.S. forces under Major General Jens A. Doe, landed at the Zamboanga Beach “yellow beach"‘ in the Sinunuc area west of Zamboanga on March 10 1945, completing the operation on the 12th of the same month. The Americans named the landing area “yellow beach” as code name for the operation. An American G.I. named Del Valle, was the lone casualty. The liberation of Zamboanga successfully carried out in seventy hours by the American forces turned out to be a mopping operation because of the wonderful collaboration between the invading forces and those of the underground movement, the native guerrillas. Fourteen warships passed the Straits of Basilan at around five o’clock in the afternoon, and disappeared in the east. The civilians ate their supper early and prepared for the eventuality; for they believe that the American Forces would attack that night. Desperate, the Japanese burned the houses where they stored their supplies, especially those in Tetuan, and the city proper. Early in the morning of March 10, 1945, the American warships appeared again and were within the firing range. At eight o’ clock in the morning the light cruisers and destroyers under the command of Rear Admiral F.R. Royal, began shelling the area from Baliwasan to Sinunuc, while mine sweepers cleared the approaches. Later, waves of bombers rained bombs over the landing field and other military installations. While the bombers where at it, the 41st Division went and made a beach head at Calarian on the spot called “yellow beach” Little enemy resistance was encountered by the American Forces and the landing filed was secured in no time. The city was then liberated, and the war-weary people met the Americans with cheers, tears and embraces. At this touching scene went on, people ransacked the storehouses left unburned by the Japanese. The American troops pursued and engaged the retreating Japanese forces in the mountains of Capisan, and fighting flared in Capisan and Cabatangan area. Japanese baby tanks were seen fleeing for better shelter across the mountains to Capisan . The American forces left the city May, 1946. (part 1) There are a few extant written sources about the Liberation of Zamboanga and scarcer documents about our Men and Women who had greater contribution for playing the major role of the Liberation. Most history books on World War II were written by foreigners who maximized their own exploits and the real local heroes are relegated to the sides. I have come across some articles, written by local war Veterans from the local Daily Zamboanga Times dated 1978, wherein Jaldon is featured as a ‘brave among the bravest’. Another from the Zamboanga Directory of the 1960’s and from the Zamboanga Hermosa of Antonio Orendain dated 1984 written by Ronaldo Bautista. During my research stint at Washington D.C. at the Library of Congress I came across a substantial research material about Zamboanga during the War but It was not a published document. Mostly were the written records of war compiled by the many military units and Officers’ dossiers that were forwarded to the US Library of Congress. Magee, an American Scout was published in Texas and is a typical war memoir or autobiography during his short stint of his war experience in Zamboanga. In his book he mentioned several times the names of local soldiers and guerillas that had a hand with the resistance movement against the Japanese, his great escape and the environs of Zamboanga with the refreshing descriptions of the Pettit Barracks, Calarian Prison, Wolf Field, and the 9 hole golf course and the sad fate of the Galle Family who was massacred by runaway bandits at the scenic estate by the beach and the San Ramon Penal Farm; As prisoner of war, He wrote about the Bukidnon Prison and the Davao Prison and how he planned and executed for his great escape in the waters of Zamboanga Port. zoroethgenre_003 October 1st, 2009, 03:10 PM On the Caldera Bay Issue.. According to Zamboanga.com Bodies of water surrounding Zamboanga City: Caldera Bay - Located by the barangay of Recodo, about 16 kilometers north-west from downtown. Historically, in November of 1596, Juan Ronquillo arrived at Caldera Bay, where he built the La Caldera fort as a base of operations for the Spanish garrison against the Cotabato Moros. Captain Paches was left in the outpost at Caldera Bay with a small garrison which passed into historical oblivion. Repeated Moro assaults soon wiped out this small detachment of unknown martyrs and the place thereafter proved untenable to the Spaniards. Caldera Bay is part of the Basilan Straight. The exhibit features 17 booths of assorted products that include fruits and vegetables, fishery products, planting materials, fruit trees and flowers that are produced in the city. The Cosechas de Zamboanga is being held at the Plaza Pershing located in downtown area. Mayor Celso Lobregat said Cosechas de Zamboanga emphasizes the very essential role played by the agriculture sector to the city’s economy and development. He thanked the participants to the exhibit and vowed that the City Government, under his administration will continue to make agriculture a priority. This year’s activity is the sixth since he was elected as city mayor in 2004. Cosechas de Zamboanga is one of the City Government-initiated activities during the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2009, a celebration in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s patron saint, whose feast day is on October 12. It is organized by the City Agriculture Office headed by Diosdado Palacat in coordination with the Mayor’s office through Tourism and Promotions Division and farmers’ organizations including the Rural Improvement Club. Palacat said one booth is designated as the Farmers’ Information Center, where farmers and fisher folks can seek answers to questions related to agriculture. Lobregat said Cosechas de Zamboanga is only one of the highlights for this year Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, as he urged the public to join and participate in the different events lined up for the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar. There will be a Fiesta Hermosa Job fair Friday, which will be held at the Red Cross compound organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). (Bong Garcia) buenos-Diaz October 2nd, 2009, 05:32 AM PHILHEALTH DECLARES ZAMBO CITY A "UNIVERSAL COVERAGE" AREA by by Vic Larato Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday extended anew health care insurance this time to the 4,018-strong members of the Micro Entrepreneurs Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MEMPCO) coming from the different barangays of the city. Recodo is around 10 kilometers from Sinunuc..pano sya maging part.. wow 1596 very old when nga ginawa un fort pilar? psylock2 October 2nd, 2009, 07:34 PM Fort Pilar - Founded in 1635 as a garrison during the Spanish period, the Fort Pilar serves as a present day open-air shrine. Originally named as La Fuerza Real de San Jose, the fort is named after and dedicated to Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga. It image is embossed at the altar (which was then an entrance of the fort). Fort Pilar also houses a National Museum branch inside the fort. eto na i found it^^ 1635 so meaning mas old pa un La Caldera fort 1596 if we will follow the finding of Zamboanga by spain of La Caldera Fort it will record that we are 413 years old if sa fort pilar naman 374 years old if sa americans naman 1899 that will be 110 years old if by the moros unknown^^ meron ba naka record? zoroethgenre_003 October 2nd, 2009, 09:21 PM ^^ Suku na ako sayo. They said that when you look up to them be careful with their *shits* cause they might get straightly to your face! 7:00 - went home - dapat gimmick kaso delikado, Bianca's mom didn't allow us to go! Alam mo naman were in Zamboanga! 8:00 - t.v galore (shall we dance ) 12:00 - gudnyt!! - we didn't plan anything na cause we need to wake up early for the beach! and beside we might miss that chance! Day 2 8:00 - our scheduled time for the great Sta. Cruz beach but we woke up late - a Muslim Breakfast, the satti. a 3 pieces of barbeque with a rice cake dip in a semi sweet chilli sauce. I didn't like it that much, cause I used to eat rice cake dip in sugar not to a chili sauce. It was the Philippine version of Malaysian satay; but at least I tried it though. 9:00 - went to tourism office to register and to get a escort 9:30 - 20min banca ride to the island - there is a little Sta Cruz ( a Philippine Marine base camp) - one great reason why this island was set a big apart from other beaches is because of its pink sand. This is cause by the pink coral fragments left in the island. (imagine a sand with pink nerd candies hahahah) there was no resort or any amenities in the island. Only small cottages and a C.R. That's why we brought our own food c/0 Bianca's mom, Zamboanga's calamansi juice, cold water and some chips. - the island was taking care of some Badjao peeps, (lumalabas lang sila kapag may tao sa island) I found out that in the other side of the island there is Badjao Burial ground. creeppy!!!! whaah but we didn't see it! baka ma kidnapped kami eh! whahaha - We were accompanied by one tourist marine guard and a chinesse business man together with his chinesse friends. (takot nga kami baka lalo kaming ma kidnapped!!!) but uncle was so generous enough to pay the cottage rent and he gave us some chinesse cigarettes and slices of papaya. http://bp2.blogger.com/_z0Sgaw13BM4/RytP8bL0gpI/AAAAAAAAAP8/3v28JsRTqM4/s320/CIMG2612.JPG http://bp2.blogger.com/_z0Sgaw13BM4/RytRUbL0gsI/AAAAAAAAAQU/jeYCwvzytKA/s320/81.JPG 1:00 - we depart from the island - we can't stay in the island for too long cause due to security reason. But its enough for me to see this beautiful island and have some tan line. haaha and besides the photos say it all. 2:00 - lunch @ KFC with Kuya Paolo ( Bianca's Bro) 3:00 - siesta time 4:00 - Fort Pilar Shrine http://bp1.blogger.com/_z0Sgaw13BM4/RytQgLL0gqI/AAAAAAAAAQE/mmjlKbfH8ro/s320/116.JPG - it was the national Shrine in Zamboanga City. Even the Muslims light their candles here, you can see the friendship of Christian and Muslims in this place 5:00 - mass @ St. Joseph Church - thank God! its airconditioned..... anyway I noticed that some church goers here are chinese. kaya pala di mabenta beauty ko! whaha We hear the mass together with Bianca's family a.k.a tita, cousin, lola and mom 7:00 - family dinner - wow! litson!!!! haaah charap charap! the crispy litson skin! wow! tlga! panalo ang dinner namin! 9:00 - petiks night - had some beers and wine sosyal dibah! Bianca's house was wifi enable so we chatted our friends in manila to make inggit with our pics hahahah Day 3 12:00 - Again we woke up late. Bianca left to Manila early in the Morning to catch up her classes in the afternoon. But since the dakilang pasaway that we are, we were absent! no skul no work! 1:00 - Late Lunch Again - sobrang nakakahiya, cause Bianca's mom waited for us to woke up and she can't got to work because of us. hahhaha turistang turista kasi. hhahahah 2:00 - went to Pasonaca Park http://bp0.blogger.com/_z0Sgaw13BM4/RytR37L0gtI/AAAAAAAAAQc/lTkFqoGFFm8/s320/CIMG2908.JPG - where the first tree house in the Philippines was built. I never saw a real tree house in my life I remember the t.v shows like Cedi were they feature tree houses and they play bahay bahayan with a hammock underneath it! hay! Anyway they allow people to rent the tree house for a night; usually people use this a honeymoon room for newly wed couples. wow! coolness - monuments of the boy scouts died in a plane crush going to a jamboree in Germany. - cute scout tents were present! I'm once a girl scout (grade school) but i didn't know anymore how to salute! I didn't even experience CAT during my HS years. oh well i missed that part. http://bp1.blogger.com/_z0Sgaw13BM4/RytSZLL0guI/AAAAAAAAAQk/i6S6m6d6Jkk/s320/CIMG2916.JPG - the burial ground of the late Cesar Climaco. The well loved mayor of Zamboanga, he was assassinated during the martial law. He has done a lot of good things in Zamboanga; no wonder Zamboangeno's even built a monument for him. - freedom park canyons with the humongous helmet and canyons! 3:00 - pasalubong candies shopping - before we head off to Mel's delicacies we passed by Fort Pilar again and Zamboanga's National Museum. Old remnants of a ship wrecked with some chinesse porcelain. It is a proof that during old times barter trade was present. Even the people of Zamboanga call their "palengke" as barter. 4:00 Final Goodbye to Zamboanga and Tita - we were drop at the airport for our 5:30 flight back to Manila. Back to reality! again! tsk tsk! Bianca's mom was generous enough to give us some Zamboanga delicacies for pasalubong! --------------------------------------------------------------- * the trip was amazing! It was a really fun weekend for me! Thank God nothing happens to us like being kidnapped or something. or else my mom will be surprised that I'm in the tip of the Philippines. I'm really thankful to Bianca's family for being generous enough to explore their hometown. As other people think that Zamboanga was not a safe place to visit. I can proved them wrong. Although you have to be extra carefull when walking at night! haahahah The richness of their culture, the lost in translation dialect of chavakanos, old houses and nice people; truly a worth place to visit in the Philippines Shes from manila now i will post an experience tourist from Leyte im bit of confuse of his location^^ but he has a nice shots and experience^^ ni-adto ko zamboanga city! ug basilan!!!! kinsa uban sunod??? Hi im Xony, I just explored the land of Zamboanga City, Basilan, And the pink Sta. Cruz Island!!!! great place... though they have been hotspots in the news...it was all worth it... enter at ur own risk!!!! Location: Davao City, Davao del Sur, Philippines Date Posted: August 14 The Pink Island It’s Day 3 in my little adventure in the Zamboanga Peninsula. Just yesterday, I was exploring the infamous Basilan. It was one exhilarating trip. Today, I plan to take a trip at a small island that’s very visible from the Zamboanga Boulevard – a renowned island coined as a “pink island”. The Great Sta. Cruz Island. Why pink? That is something I have to find out. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00042-1.jpg?t=1221843314 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00411.jpg?t=1221844637 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00412.jpg?t=1221844656 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00039-1.jpg?t=1221843305 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00414.jpg?t=1221844868 Getting Ready. I was running around Zamboanga City for the things I need while in the island. I got delayed for an early trip due to some misunderstanding with the schedules of this boat man. But eventually things sorted out and I was finally in the boat along with some other guys who was planning to go there as well. We were accompanied by 2 security escorts which was SOP for people going there. It has been known that Abu Sayyafs have abducted people while at sea or on the island on a rare occasion before. I was hoping for a great beach relaxing minus the terrorist threat. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00449.jpg?t=1221844246 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00437.jpg?t=1221844536 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00430.jpg?t=1221844550 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00435.jpg?t=1221844540 Geek In The Pink. The island was a big break for me from all the tiresome travel. It was perfect. The blue skies, the sand, the beach. From the looks of it, the sand is really pink. I never thought something like this exists. I did some homework and I found out that this phenomena is rare in the world. They can be found in Bermuda, in the Bahamas, in Puerto Rico, in Hawaii, Greece, the Carribean, in Barbados. Looking closer, the sand is not really pink. It’s with a rare Red Organ-Pipe Coral fragments. Billions of years ago, these corals are abundant in the area. With the elements, the waves, It eventually led to turning these corals into sand. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00439.jpg?t=1221844283 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00453.jpg?t=1221844215 The Force. The island have sheds that people can use for a price. It’s a typical beachfront. I took a swim on its waters where I realized that it is a steep ravine already just a few feet from land. It was only good for scuba diving. I decided to stay on land and hang around the area. Later, I saw foreigners entering the beach with their jet-propelled, air-filled boat. I realized that they were Americans from the Balikatan Exercises on another island which is off limits to the general people. This off-limits island is where these American defense force are deployed as part of the US-Philippine agreement to fight local terrorism. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00446.jpg?t=1221844254 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00455.jpg?t=1221844191 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00478.jpg?t=1221843824 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00001.jpg?t=1221843298 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00487.jpg?t=1221843779 Holy Burial Grounds. I explored more of the island, walking meters farther to the right from the main beachfront. There was heavy foliage around here. And from one corner I noticed something peculiar. There is this piece of white cloth held with 4 sticks on 4 corners. I went near to have a closer look. Below it was some sort of a carved boat-like figurine made out of wood. It was then that I realized that I was in some sort of holy burial grounds! There were a couple of them that I saw. I was curious still and I went further through deep foliage. To my surprise, there were a lot of them!… In different shapes, and size. I realized that these are holy burial grounds of a tribe that live in the island – The Samals, one of the various sub-Muslim tribes in the area. They don’t use coffins in burying their dead. They just cover the dead in cloth and bury it with little stones. They believe that when Allah comes back, the dead can come out easily to return and welcome God. The small carved boat-figurines are symbolic of how they are people of the sea. They depend on the ocean for food and livelihood…. It was a magical place. I was in awe. Never saw such beauty. I was in a deep forest and all these trees are covering these burial grounds. It was an out of body experience and so surreal. There is something universal and powerful about this place that I felt so much reverie and there was such a deep spiritual experience at that moment. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00022-1-1.jpg?t=1221845800 Jamir’s Tribe. As I came out from the bushes, there was this guy of my age. I thought there was danger. I thought he might get mad that I was in their holy grounds… Luckily, it was all in my thoughts. He was calm and at peace. I befriended this guy. His name was Jamir. He introduced himself as a local in the island and he was a mix of Samal and Badjao. I joined him as he was going home. He was willing to show me the community. But as soon as we reached the place, there was a great river that’s dividing us to his place. It was a community of Samals. I wanted to see how life goes there but I had to cross a deep river and my trip back was about to go. Universally Speaking. So I decided to go back to the main beachfront where the public sheds stand. While waiting for the outrigger to get me back home, I met this old guy in the island. He was the father of Jamir. He was a kind and peaceful man. He was proud of his heritage and so open for conversation. I appreciated this old man because of how he is open to Christians. He said that most of his friends are Christians and like how they are as a people. He hated how some fellow Muslims are cruel and disrespectful to people outside the faith. At that time, I realized how we are just the same. I came to understand our Muslim brothers. They are just people like me. I felt a deep sense of humanity and brotherhood from the guy… Later, he showed me some pearls that were from Tawi-Tawi. He even wanted to show me more of the island like the deep lagoon in the middle of the island and the good spot where colorful corals thrive. But the time has come to leave and I am left with a deep sense of awe and universal wisdom. psylock2 October 4th, 2009, 12:48 AM i just wonder if pano sila nag cocomunicate ^^ anyways badjaos and samal are not that agresive in the muslim tribe not like tausog^^ even this two tribes are afraid of tausog i dont know why^^ all i know tausog are born warriors =) psylock2 October 4th, 2009, 01:16 AM Bienvenidos Zamboanga! XANY The Zamboanga Drama PART 1 The Warfreak. This has been a dream in my mind since the beginning of this great adventure — to reach ground zero. Get there to the warzone of the country — the Zamboanga and Basilan regions. It’s been a hotspot on national news and every month, we here kidnappings, bombings, and a bunch of stuff. I wanted to see before hand, how the living conditions there were… http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00007.jpg?t=1218420339 Zamboanga Sibugay. I started around 9 am from Oz to Pagadian. By noon, I was in another bus bound for Zamboanga which would take another 6 hours… It was a quiet and pleasant trip down the Zamaboanga Peninsula. I was surprised how it was a bit calm down here as the bus cruised to many towns, passing a wet market in Buug and Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay. My father told me of stories of raiding extremists here before but it turned out quiet a peaceful trip. I was nowhere near home but I was fine for now. The landscape was beautiful, and I could see a great coastline as we neared the city of Zamboanga. Bienvenidos Zamboanga! I reached Zamboanga City just as the day was ending. I was surprised how casual and laidback the city was. It was a highly-urbanized metropolis, different from what I thought and heard from the media. To let me dig deeper onto the culture and the city, I met with this local guy online to guide my great adventure here in the south westernmost part of Mindanao. First stop in the city — Plaza Pershing. It was surrounded by a university, malls and other tall buildings. The plaza tonight was in the middle of a busy downtown evening rush. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00017.jpg?t=1218420533 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00016.jpg?t=1218420544 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00018.jpg?t=1218420701 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00023.jpg?t=1218640337 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00019.jpg?t=1218420548 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00029.jpg?t=1218639932 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00026.jpg?t=1218639935 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00393.jpg?t=1218640419 Asia’s Latin City. I was ecstatic, excited of the new world. The people speak Chavacano, a unique Creole language with a blend of Spanish, European, Mexican-Indian words and a mix of Cebuano… The downtown area was quite a scene in terms of the culture and architecture. It was as if it has been isolated from mainstream civilization and have thrived on its own. European influences are scattered all over the place because Zamboanga was once a major Spanish fortress in Mindanao back in Spanish heydays. Just around the corner, a Rizal Park, the best Rizal park I’ve seen so far. Fronting the Rizal park, is a magestic Spanish-styled city hall at night. I also saw an old canon, a Muslim gong, replicas of colorful vintas inside Lantaka Hotel. Sunday At The Fort. Further in my walk around these major sites was Fort Pilar, where I joined my companion in a long line to meditate to the shrine of the Lady Of Pilar… http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00034.jpg?t=1218639915 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00040.jpg?t=1218639893 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00042.jpg?t=1218639890 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00036.jpg?t=1218639905 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00038.jpg?t=1218639902 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City% psylock2 October 4th, 2009, 01:45 AM Bienvenidos Zamboanga! XANY The Zamboanga Drama PART 2 My first night in Zamboanga city continues. After passing by Fort Pilar, my guide and I continued exploring deep into the heart of the city. To where the action happens… From The Mosque. Surprisingly, apart from the popular notion, majority are 75%-85% Christian in Zamboanga City. The rest belongs to other non-Christian faiths. Muslim immigrants from the islands south of the Zamboanga Peninsula compose much of the Muslim population in the city… I have come across a beautiful Mosque just near Fort Pilar. At first, I could not distinguish it as Muslim because the building itself looked more of Christian to me. Outside, stood a good Muslim brother who is in his 40s. I carefully approached him to ask if I may be able to observe the action inside for awhile. Smilingly, he agreed. I was so grateful and felt a sense of brotherhood and peace with the guy.. Slowly I approached the entry way of the Mosque. I took off my footwear, in respect to the custom. And for the first time, I saw them in their casual setting… all sitting down on the floor, worshipping, talking. I was in awe to witness such reverie, different from what I was accustomed to, being Protestant Christian myself… Suddenly, this guy approached me, with an aggressive tone of questions like why I was here, why I was taking photos! I did not know what to say! I quickly made something up like I was a student from Manila, who is here to observe the customs of Zamboanga. And quickly I left with my companion who was waiting outside. It was my first brutal encounter with the different kind. No offense to my Muslim friends, but there has to be an anger management with these guys! Dang! Later, my guide explained that those were uneducated Muslim brothers. He said that people should not generally stereotype them as like that… To be honest, I understand these guys. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00047.jpg?t=1220445321 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00045.jpg?t=1220445333 To The Church. Jumping from a Mosque, my guide took me to a newly built Roman Catholic church in the city — it was modern and romantic tonight. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00050.jpg?t=1220445319 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00054.jpg?t=1220445324 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00053.jpg?t=1220445579 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00055.jpg?t=1220445328 Mall Drifting. We got into a mall. One of the biggest in Zambo. I was missing this kind of scene because for a year I was in Oz, I was out of touch with the mainstream hype. Ozamiz was kind of laidback and out of touch from civilization. So I took it all in. I was in a mall! yoooohoo! http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00049.jpg?t=1220445584 Rooftops. The night got deeper and we headed to some hotel, on a rooftop. And watched the city at night sparkling in the midst of darkness, where some areas are quite, some still busy as the downtown area slowly shuts down. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00063.jpg?t=1220445069 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00062.jpg?t=1220445055 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00060.jpg?t=1220445064 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00066.jpg?t=1220445041 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00067.jpg?t=1220445786 Thanks For The Free Food! A lady friend of my guide came with us as we had a quite good meal at Binalot De Zamboanga, where I had Beef Kurma. It was Muslim food that they served and it was all good. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00071.jpg?t=1220444315 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00068.jpg?t=1220445035 The Boulevard Chill. Later, at the end of the day, we chilled for a while by the cool Boulevard facing the Basilan waters… All was good then. I was euphoric and so much into my element. So many things to see and this was just my first 7 hours here! http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00074.jpg?t=1220445045 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00073.jpg?t=1220445201 psylock2 October 4th, 2009, 03:25 AM THE ZAMBOANGA DRAMA (PART THREE) In my 3 days in Zamboanga Peninsula, I had conquered Basilan and took a visit in the pink island, Sta Cruz. My last moments in Zamboanga City was a mix of me being genuinely happy and a little bit of melancholic. I was alone with these little adventures and I kinda wished I had someone to share this moments with. I was thinking of my family back home in Leyte. My sister in Dumaguete. And my friends. But this is something I had to do… Sati. My first morning in the city, my guide took me to a Satihan. This is a place where Sati is being sold. It is a Muslim food with beef or chicken meat in a skewer. It’s bathed in this sweet and sour sauce. It’s a big hit here. Nothing like it elsewhere. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00075.jpg?t=1223215083 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00076.jpg?t=1223215076 Evening At Pasonanca Park. After my Basilan trip that day, I was back in Zamboanga where I reunited with my guide who was just finished from work. He took me to Pasonanca Park, which is a huge park where the locals would go for relaxation because there are so much things you can do here. Swim in fresh water pools. There’s a treehouse you can hangout, and a bunch more. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00372.jpg?t=1223215048 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00370.jpg?t=1223214700 Mano-Mano. Later, my guide took me to Mano-mano, which is a festive restaurant where they had great food. My guide was so generous enough to treat me. I never thought I could be this full in a trip. I had chicken inasal, shrimp soup, sizzling sisig! You name it! They had good ambience too. I looked so haggard out of all the rich guys around but I didn’t mind. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00383.jpg?t=1223214668 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00381.jpg?t=1223215012 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00380.jpg?t=1223215746 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00376.jpg?t=1223215054 Kaleidoscope World. The next day. While in the Pink Island, I saw some colorful vintas basking in ths sun just outside the coast of the Zamboanga shores. It was too far to appreciate… Vintas were known to be colorful seaboats in Zamaboanga City. I usually see this as famous postcard scenes of Mindanao. After that whole Pink Island trek, I was back in the city, and I had the chance to get around the market scene of the city. It was the most colorful place so far here in Zamboanga. Different people of different backgrounds gather here, selling and buying food, fish, flowers, fruits, goods, clothes, used stuff, everything… Later, I tried to escape from the place when I accidentally splashed some water to a guy in the face! He was mad I can tell. Yikes! http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00340.jpg?t=1223214823 Before Sunset. I realized that the sun was about to set. I had to go to the boulevard by the sea again. I walked the whole stretch of the boulevard. There were lots of people that evening, hanging, eating, being with their friends, family. I tried a bunch of street foods here which was the best so far. And the best part was the view — I saw the most beautiful sunset ever. It was crisp. The colors of the sky were so warm as the sun hid from the horizon fronting the boulevard. Good times… http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00061-1.jpg?t=1223215177 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00345.jpg?t=1223214735 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00395.jpg?t=1223216169 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00387.jpg?t=1223215157 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00044-1.jpg?t=1223215410 http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x164/xon86/May%2017-21%202008%20-%20Zamboanga%20City%20and%20Basilan/DSC00051-1.jpg?t=1223215222 psylock2 October 4th, 2009, 04:10 AM Kuya hows the 10-storey Hotel sa San Jose? Police said it recorded an average of 100 cases of motorcycle accidents every month and most of these involved young drivers whose ages range were between 18 and 24. Zamboanga City has more than 36,000 privately owned motorcycles. And a huge number of unregistered bikes are also believed plying the roads despite a strict government campaign against erring drivers. Police said a 1,298 motorcycle accidents with ten fatalities had been recorded in 2008, but the first two months of this year have already noted more than 200 road accidents. And most of these accidents had been blamed to reckless drivers and drank driving, it said. Police appealed to bike riders to be more responsible and observe traffic rules to avoid road accidents. chuck23 October 4th, 2009, 04:50 AM i have no updates pa hehehe im i little bit of bz^^ But the project is on-going right?
