nice to know na marami ng forumers ang zamboanga thread posting pictures like this.
the urban sprawl of zamboanga is amazing, if only our fellow filipinos can visit this underrated latin city... with the impression media is giving us about zamboanga peninsula you'd be shocked, promise, with it's economic progress pag nakatuntong ka na dito. visit this city once in your lifetime para naman hindi maging ignorante sa sariling bayan.

Let’s go to Zamboanga City (http://liveinthephilippines.com/bobm/)

OK, we’ve been traveling around the Philippines looking at different Cities around the country, and trying to which one might be best as a place to live! Well, today, let’s go way down South to Zamboanga City. I know, I know… the first thing that most foreigners think of when it comes to Zamboanga City is that it is dangerous, and it’s full of terrorists. Well, I don’t think that this is true. Yes, there are some problems in the general area, but overall, Zamboanga City is safe and not a big worry. Now, if you venture to nearby Basilan Island, or to Sulu you will probably find some problems if you look for them, but if you remain in the City of Zamboanga, you will likely feel quite safe. Hey, I’ve even been to Basilan myself, and I lived to tell about it!

For today’s journey to Zamboanga City, we were guided by Arvin Jaeson Lipae, a native of Zamboanga City. Arvin volunteered to guide us through our list of questions about his home town. Let’s have a look at my questions, and Arvin’s answers:

1. What City do you live in?
->Zamboanga City <a.k.a. city of flowers, asia’s latin city, sardine capital of the philippines>

2. How long have you lived in this City?
-> 25 yrs.

3. Can you give a price range of housing in the area that would be
appropriate for a foreigner? Low end? High end?
->12,500/month in a village in TALISAYAN many koreans live there.
->there is a exclusive village in tumaga beside the newly constructed ateneo high school building which ranges from 2-5 million pesos/house<this is best when you live here for good>

4. What kind of amenities do you have in town? Malls? Fitness
Centers? Swimming Pools? Movies? Restaurants?
-> Shopping Malls
-Mindpro Citimall<4 storey mall>
-Southway Square<4 storey mall>
-Yubenco Starmall<3 storey mall>(located at putik 2-3 km away from the city hall)
-Shopper’s Center<a 4 storey mall>(under construction)
-Shopper’s Mall<a 10 storey mall>(under construction)
-Gaisano Mall- Pending
-Robinsons Place Zamboanga<still a rumor>
-Midtown Plaza
and a whole lot of Department Stores

the 1st,3rd,4th and 5th mall mentioned above are only having a few meter distances.
example: Southway Square is away from Shopper’s Center for only 10-20 mtrs away..

Swimming Pools
*Woodland
*Inland resort(a great resort for a family holiday)
*JRS
*Pasonanca Swimming pools
*Monte Verde resort
and a whole lot more
there are also pools @ the hotels<e.g. Garden Orchid Hotel,Marcian Hotel&Lantaka Hotel>

Movies
*most movie houses are available at the malls

Restaurants
*Mano-Mano
*Park 88
*Alejandras Grand Complex
*Harry’s Grill
*Mang Inasal
and a whole lot more which includes the fast food chain restaurants like Jollibee<9 branches>
Mcdonald’s, KFC,Chowking&greenwich<not considered as fast food> etc and etc

5. In general, how would you consider the cost of living in your city?
How much is the price of a Lechon Manok?
-it’s cheap a ride from you’re house to the city commercial proper is at about 25-30 pesos that’s if you’re w/ someone but if you’re alone it only cost 20-25 pesos. depends on the location of your house
-a whole lechon manok cost 120 pesos

6. How are the roads in your area?
-they are cemeneted and not to mention the traffic here travels smoothly most of the time

7. Are there many foreigners living in your area? Is there any kind of
get togethers for foreigners?
-mostly chinese<LOTS of them>
some koreans
there are some indonesians only few americans, british, german etc.

8. How are the government offices in your area? Things like getting a
driver’s license and such, how much of a hassle?
-not quite a hassle quite the same process with other cities

9. What types of transportation are mostly used in your city?
Tricycles? Jeepneys? Taxis?
-Tricycles and Jeepneys
(Bob’s note: When I visited Zamboanga City in 2007, I found that transportation was the biggest drawback in town. Tricycles vastly overcharged for foreigners, and it was really a hassle getting around town)

10. How is the weather in your area? Lots of rain? Mostly sunshine?
-> we usually have a fair weather, we dont experience that much storm because, we’re outside the typhoon belt.

11. How is the drinking water? Can you drink tap water in your area,
or do you need mineral water?
-We Drink water which are only sterilized & mineral water,
-to be more safe you’ll need mineral water

12. How about electricity? Do you have many brownouts? Can you give
us the cost of electricity in your area?
-we experience brownouts rarely

13. Do you have good beaches in your area?
-im proud to say that we do have GREAT beaches not just good but great ones. there is the Santa Cruz island<pink sand beach>,Bolong Beach, La Vista Del mar<currently owned by the Lobregat family to give you a fact >
(Bob’s note: I agree, great beaches in Zamboanga! Santa Cruz Island with it’s pale pink sands is a beautiful place)

14. Is your City served by an airport? If so, are the number of
flights adequate?
-yes, it is served by an INTERNATIONAL airport
-yes, but unfortunately the airport is not open 24 hrs, we also have an INTERNATIONAL seaport.

15. Are imported goods and such readily available in your local
stores? Do you feel a need to make trips to a bigger city to buy such
items? If so, where?
-most of the imported goods are available in the city

16. Do you find the area friendly? Ever feel there is any danger in
your area?
-yes,but also like manila&cebu there are still a few robber/thief and hold-uppers
-to be honest, no, because the locals seems to be friendly enough for me not to fear

17. Is Cable TV available in your area?
-yes, there are 2 cable tv provider Sky Cable and Mindanao Cable. A satellite TV provider is also available.

Legislator eyes to make Zambo a sports tourism center
By Bong Garcia

Second District Congressman Erico Basilio Fabian is aiming to make Zamboanga City the sports tourism capital of Mindanao.

As part of his project, Fabian said the Blue Stallion Stable is set to promote the first title bout boxing to be held here on February 23, 2008 featuring Asia-Pacific featherweight rated 2 boxer Eric Canoy against an African contender for the crown as Asia-Pacific Featherweight champion.

The first title bout is a prelude to the undercard fight between Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico against Philippine pride and super featherweight champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao on March 15, 2008 in Nevada, USA.

Canoy, who belongs to the Blue Stallion Stable of Fabian, has been readying for the forthcoming fight.

The February title bout will be the second international boxing competition to be held in this city.

The first was last December 1 wherein Canoy, a Zamboangueño, floored his Thai opponent in the fourth round.

Last Thursday, Fabian--in coordination with Fuersa Zamboanga--gave recognition to a total of 38 Zamboangueño athletes who have given honor to the city by excelling in their respective field of sports.

It was the first time that outstanding athletes from different fields who won top places abroad and in other places in the country were honored in a formal gathering.

In order to achieve the vision of becoming the sports tourism capital, he said there must be cooperation by everyone, especially sports enthusiasts.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said last Thursday's awarding ceremony is the first ever sports award held in this city for the promotion of sports.

Wala pa bang taxi sa Zamboanga? Tricycles should be banned from major roads (and replaced with taxis, as complenent to jeepneys). Tricycles are not only inefficient, they are also noisy, uncomfortable and dangerous. Plus mahal pa sumingil (in zamboanga), parang taxi.

I agree with this guy..we should not totally scrap tricycles on the streets but only on major and national roads..they can still operate sa mga roads na 2 lanes lang..

Zamboanga City set to open new office to lure investors (http://www.bworldonline.com/BW010708/content.php?id=054)

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The city government is setting up a special office in a bid to attract new businesses.

Mayor Celso L. Lobregat said he will personally supervise the new Investment and Incentives Board, as he swore in the new set of officers of the Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. over the weekend.

Mr. Lobregat said the board will implement the Zamboanga City Investment Code recently amended by the city council. "The creation of this board will definitely boost and accelerate the sound economic development of the city," he told business leaders.

The board will be composed of representatives from the private sector and government agencies.

The creation of the board is part of the city government’s strategy of playing a "supportive role" for investors and providing a climate conducive to business activities. "These include fiscal incentives to prospective investors in the city and other perks," he said.

Arsenio L. Gonzalez, Jr., a director of the Zamboanga business chamber, called on the city’s business leaders and local government officials cooperate in luring investors to establish businesses in the city.

"The name of the game is attraction, so let us join hands in attracting investors and businessmen to our city," he said. — D.T. Wee

check this out! the 5th mindanao statistics congress will be held at ateneo de zamboanga university come june or july 2008. This is due to a great number of participants during the 4th mindanao stat congress who have expressed their interest and desire to conduct the annual event in zamboanga city. The said upcoming annual activity is a significant event as this provides an opportunity for zamboangueños to promote local tourism and for local businessmen to lure investors.

i notice last year, zamboanga city had been the host city of many conventions, seminars, trainings and the like.

i just hope that this year would be another milestone for zamboanga to host as many conventions as possible so as zamboanga city will grab another legitimate title, that is, "the convention capital of the philippines". :)

Lobregat joins 19th Cawa-cawa siege anniversary

Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday joined Philippine National Police (PNP) officials in the observance of the 19th death anniversary of then Brig. Gen. Eduardo Batalla and his chief of staff Col. Romeo Abendan.

Lobregat, along with District I Congresswoman Beng Climaco took part in the wreath laying rites at the Abendan monument in Camp Abendan in Mercedes yesterday morning. The commemoration rite, spearheaded by PNP Regional Commander Gen. Jaime Caringal, reeled off with an early morning mass at Camp Batalla at the Regional Command headquarters in Cawa-cawa.

The occasion marked the day when Gen. Batalla and Abendan along with five other people, were taken hostage by renegade policemen led by Rizal in Batalla’s own office at the Recom-9 headquarters in Cawa-cawa. The military launched an attack at the headquarters but Alih managed to escape and sought refuge in Malaysia . He was believed to have died in the attack until authorities caught up with him in Malaysia for illegal possession of firearms.

He was deported to the Philippines in January 2006 and is now detained at the Bicutan Jail and is awaiting trial.

Lobregat said people should remember the heroism of the two police officials and others who were caught in the crossfire in that January 5, 1989 incident in Cawa-cawa.

The two officials, he stressed, sacrificed their lives for the safety of their men and other people at the then Recom-9 headquarters.

Also present during the affair yesterday were Zamboanga City Police Office commander Col. Manuel Barcena and other police officials in the region. — SEC

8,000 biz permits expected this year

The City Licensing Division expects to grant and renew 8, 000 business permits for the entire year of 2008.

City’s Permit and Licensing Officer Dangin Jacinto reported that from January 2 until yesterday, the office has already issued a total of 5, 000 business permits to applicants, which are now being processed.

Based on record, the licensing division has approved 7, 811 business permits in 2007, which was higher than the previous years.

Since business climate in the city has improved, Jacinto foresees another increase this year.

Business permit applicants, both new ones and for renewals, are given until January 20 to complete all the requirements and pay the necessary fees to avoid penalties and surcharges mandated under the law.

But since January 20 falls on Sunday, Jacinto said that permit applications maybe extended to January 21 or 22.

January 9, this week, has also been declared as Muslim Holiday.

From January 2, this year, offices concerned on the issuance of business permits have extended their working hours from 8: 00 a.m to 8: 00 p.m (Monday to Friday) and from 8: 00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

A massive information drive concerning the matter has already been initiated by no less than Mayor Celso Lobregat. — Jimmy Villaflores

Fabian to honor Rodriguez with ‘Golden Mike’ award

Veteran broadcaster Edmundo “Eddie” Rodriguez will be honored with a Golden Microphone Award in a fitting ceremony initiated by Congressman Erbie A. Fabian on January 18 at the Grand Astoria Hotel.

The award is given to Rodriguez in observance of the 50th anniversary of the broadcasting industry in Zamboanga City.

Fabian, himself a veteran broadcaster, said Rodriguez was chosen for the award in consultation with current broadcasters in the city for Rodriguez being the most senior Zamboangueño broadcaster alive and for his active and consistent role in the local broadcasting scene.

Rodriguez has been in the broadcasting industry since it was born 50 years ago in Zamboanga City.

He has worked with several radio stations as announcer, commentator and station manager such as DXJW, DXWZ and DXXX. Currently, he has a program at the Radyo Agong.

Rodriguez served in the City Council for several terms topping in many previous elections. In 1980, he was the lone survivor in the election that was won by the opposition Concerned Citizens Aggrupation which was led by the legendary late Mayor Cesar Climaco.

Currently, Rodriguez is an official at the Tricycle Adjudication Board in City Hall.

Fabian stressed that Rodriguez is considered as a legend and institution in the local broadcasting scene for being active and consistent in the profession.

Before becoming a politician, Fabian was a popular broadcaster. He became a disc jockey, a radio and television journalist of the defunct First United Broadcasting Corp.

In fact, the congressman is considered as still an active broadcaster for his “Amor con Amor se Paga na IBC 11” talk show and “Amor con Amor se Paga” program at Radyo Agong.

and maybe we can regain the title of being the Premier City of the South..we should fortify our claim that we are the de facto capital of Mindanao, because of historical basis..

mejo nakakapanghinayang. zamboanga used to be the premier city of mindanao. i think for zambo to regain the spotlight kelangan ng good governance, comprehensive plan and proper implementation of plans. i remember dati, when we speak of luzon, manila or baguio kaagad. pag visayas cebu. pag mindanao of course zamboanga with vinta. pero nowadays, madalas davao na ang nakakabit.

i think this is what happened to davao. we used to be unknown. during 90s our city councilors were busy sa paggawa ng mga city ordinances. there are city ordinances na matagal na sa davao, pero 2000 up pa lang nagawa sa ibang cities. even before the nationwide anti-tobacco law, meron ng city ordinance ang davao nyan na mas strikto. halos lahat ng ordinance meron na ang davao like anti-aids, water code, children's welfare code, anti-firecracker, comprehensive zoning, etc. our shelter code was once vetoed, pero ngayon pasado na. dati di namin maintindihan bakit ang ginagawa ng mayor puro basic services, puro basurahan, puro peace and order. davao is always conscious when it comes to cleanliness. our city mayor isnabero sa mga unruly na mga investors. pinapadeport nya. kalaban nya ang US agenda. all projects ng city are mostly for the people. would you believe na ang govt hospital namin is better than private in terms of facilities. there are so many things id like to share pero hahaba na to. just visit davao thread na lang.

sa tingin ko, in the future, if theres one city that would overtake davao, cdo & zambo in terms of over-all livability i guess Tagum has the quality of a first world city in the making. imo lang ha.

just dont be conscious sa title ng de facto capital kasi there are titles na meron ang davao na di naman kami ang nagbigay. like the "metro" thing, we never call our city metro. media lang may pakana. yong mga surveys, di naman kami gumawa nun, AIM, Asiaweek, UK-based magazine FDI. just work hard and at the end of the day, bigyan kayo ng reward kahit di nyo hingiin.

If Zamboanga City being the premier city in the west, it will help the southern part of the Philippines to develop the towns like the City of Isabela, basilan. Jolo, sulu, and tawi-tawi. Dahil doon, bigla humina ung development ng Zamboanga City, and cguro, they saw davao city the best and safest place to invest their businesses, gumanda ung development ng davao, ayun naging kilala na cuidad nila...

i think this is what happened to davao. we used to be unknown. during 90s our city councilors were busy sa paggawa ng mga city ordinances. there are city ordinances na matagal na sa davao, pero 2000 up pa lang nagawa sa ibang cities. even before the nationwide anti-tobacco law, meron ng city ordinance ang davao nyan na mas strikto. halos lahat ng ordinance meron na ang davao like anti-aids, water code, children's welfare code, anti-firecracker, comprehensive zoning, etc. our shelter code was once vetoed, pero ngayon pasado na. dati di namin maintindihan bakit ang ginagawa ng mayor puro basic services, puro basurahan, puro peace and order. davao is always conscious when it comes to cleanliness. our city mayor isnabero sa mga unruly na mga investors. pinapadeport nya. kalaban nya ang US agenda. all projects ng city are mostly for the people. would you believe na ang govt hospital namin is better than private in terms of facilities. there are so many things id like to share pero hahaba na to. just visit davao thread na lang.

sa tingin ko, in the future, if theres one city that would overtake davao, cdo & zambo in terms of over-all livability i guess Tagum has the quality of a first world city in the making. imo lang ha.

just dont be conscious sa title ng de facto capital kasi there are titles na meron ang davao na di naman kami ang nagbigay. like the "metro" thing, we never call our city metro. media lang may pakana. yong mga surveys, di naman kami gumawa nun, AIM, Asiaweek, UK-based magazine FDI. just work hard and at the end of the day, bigyan kayo ng reward kahit di nyo hingiin.

btw, may kakilala akong mga chavacano. what i like sa kanila, humble sila maski sosyal sila moistorya. hehe.

i hope, Davao's style in governance should be set as a standard..its very effective, is it not? If only, the government of Zamboanga should make a big difference..there's no reason for us to prosper and regain the title..

Its just the mayor, is so close-minded that he refused the offer of SM, Robinsons and other large malls to have their respective branches here in the city..

It could be a great leap for development..There is a distinct possibility that he is protecting something...Is it not he is protecting the profits of the Macau Chinese that operates mainly in the Central Business District.? Because the money of this people have somehow contributed in the victory of current city mayor..:ohno:

is this true mag PRISAA sa Pagadian? i havent heard about this yet sa mga locals.

im doubtful if Pagadian can manage to host that kind of activity..because even Regional Athletic Meets, Pagadian isnot capable of hosting such..

If only they have a very good sports complex..

what about Zamboanga being the Premier city in the West while Davao in the East?

does it sound good? and then we'll work hand-in-hand and prove to them that Zamboanga and Davao are safe places to live, stroll, and see some wonderful places and tourist attractions...

that would be pleasant..why not divide Mindanao and make both cities center in their own ways..

Lest make Davao and Zamboanga partners in attaining progress in Mindanao..

cheers for the two international cities in the South..

well, I think the SM, Robinsons, and Gaisano is still under negotiation. We can't blame the mayor. siguro the Mayor is promoting Something unique in our city that will gain more attention than the other cities in the country. I hope that "something unique" is not bad. Dapat good. Like the shopper's center diba. Unique and lahat ng new branches from manila nandun na...:):):)

ot

why dont zamboanga city ask national government for aerobriges be installed in your interntional airport terminal building

why not..

but i suggest, that we should not give the present airport much lucrative looks..if i were the GRP, i will reserve the funds for the building of the new International Airport in Mercedes..

zoroethgenre_003
January 9th, 2008, 03:22 PM
uhm, cguro ZIA doesnt need aerobridges. Much better na ung ganun na lang then pagbaba mo pa lang, mamangha ka na sa ganda ng terminal, sa colorful flowers na makikita niyo sa harapan ng terminal. ehehehe

that's true..at one point..to emphasize the architecture of the terminal..

yeah!! good idea... unite! hehe!
pero, not like Zamboanga.
they're always like that. Generalizing Mindanao as a warzone..
Kasi dati, nung nag umpisa na nag giyerahan sa Mindanao, affected ang Zamboanga, then the peace was not that active, laging magulo at maraming bombings. Dahil doon, bigla humina ung development ng Zamboanga City, and cguro, they saw davao city the best and safest place to invest their businesses, gumanda ung development ng davao, ayun naging kilala na cuidad nila...
pero its good na challenge ang Zamboaga dun, since ang ganda na ng development ng City ngyon. Malls, restaurants, fast food chains, and more, makikita mo na sa Zamboanga... everything here is UNIQUE...:):):):)
agree...Zamboanga is progressing...
actually we have the same problem. the perception of peace and order situation. two major bombings happened in dvo.
until now....

yes youre right chris. sana bigyan din pansin ang mga bukirin sa may vitali para na rin di masyadong pagpugaran ng mga dandidos.:)

with that request..the iea of converting Zamboanga into a province is the best solution..because it will be divided into many towns thus delimiting now the focus..with the large land are of Zamboanga, the hinter barangays is left behind from those barangays which is within the 7 kilometer radius..

the proximity of Zamboanga to Basilan and Sulu injects a bad perception among the media that the peace and order situation in Zambo is at its worst..which is not true..that shoulsd be corrected..its just a product of media's sensationlization of news..

that negotiation is like the tenth time..i remember when i was in high school..sabi-sabi magkakaroon na daw ng SM sa Zambo..but it the owner of Shoppers Chaim of Stores protested..and the mayor granted their request..

what is really the intention is Lobregat..i don't know..but it must be in consonance to the voice of the people..

it was proposed by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines 2 years ago..in this case Zamboanga will have 7 towns and 1 city..the capital of course is Zamboanga City..

juz like Basilan in 1948..the whole island of Basilan is a city..but converted into a province way back 1948 because of its real huge land area..

Lobregat welcomes Asia United Bank

Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday cited the strong business confidence on local leadership as he acknowledged the entry of another commercial bank in Asia’s Latin City .

“Thank you for finally coming to Zamboanga,” the mayor told executives of the Asia Union Bank during unveiling ceremonies for the local branch located at the Nunez extension yesterday morning. “Why did it take you so long to come to Zamboanga?”.

The unveiling rite yesterday augmented the growing number of commercial banks operating in the city at present, making Zamboanga truly the commercial and financial center in Western Mindanao .

Lobregat said the growing number of banks including other business establishments is proof of the robust business climate in Zamboanga.

He stressed that the city government has intensified business development efforts and working hard in partnership with other agencies concerned to make the city feasible and viable for business activities.

In his brief message during the opening of the Asia United Bank, Lobregat also explained the Asia’s Latin City branding which is primarily due to the large number of chabacano speaking population and the rich and colorful history of Zamboanga.

He also emphasized on the sound fiscal management of the present administration citing the report of the Commission on Audit in 2006.

Zamboanga City is among the top cities in terms of gross income and net income. — SEC

Top team formed to manage AUB Zambo branch

The Asia United Bank’s choice to open a branch in Zamboanga City is because the city is a progressive and peaceful city, said Orman O. Manansala, the bank’s area manager for Mindanao.

Mr. Manansala said that they have formed a good team to manage the Zamboanga City branch with manager Jeanette Mendoza who is a resident of Zamboanga City.

Manansala visualized that Asia United Bank (AUB) will grow and become more productive this year.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has rated AUB as one of the top four rated banks in the country serving its clients and investors.

AUB has 41 branches in the country and has been in operation since 1997.

The bank’s branches are in Metro Manila, several cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. In Mindanao, the bank branches are in Davao City, Gen Santos City, Cagayan De Oro City and now in Zamboanga City. Another branch will be opened in Cotabato City.

Republic Biscuits Corp. (Rebisco) owns 70 percent of the AUB stocks, while the rest are owned by two topTaiwanese banks. — Allen Abastillas

City to pursue building of Nuñez-Gov. Ramos road

The city government will pursue the construction of the proposed Nunez-Gov. Ramos road as a long term solution to the mounting traffic problems in city streets.

Mayor Celso Lobregat Monday conferred with Archbishop Romulo Valles and members of the clergy to discuss the possibility of utilizing portions of Church property for the opening of the proposed road.

Lobregat, together with City Engineer Luis Despalo also inspected areas that will be affected by the proposed road project.

The proposal, conceptualized several years back, is primarily to address traffic woes encountered by commuters going to Sta. Maria, Pasonanca as well as to the west coast area.

Once implemented, the road project will ease traffic along Sta. Maria road. It will be an access road for commuters going to Sta. Maria, Pasonanca, San Roque including the west coast as well as east coast.

During the meeting with the clergy, Archbishop Valles has expressed support to the development plans of the city and in principle agreed to the plan.

Mayor Lobregat acknowledged that it would take some time before the proposal can be finalized and implemented.

He has tasked the City Engineer’s Office, the City Planning and Development Office, Land Housing and Management Division and other offices concerned to speed up the negotiation process.

He also expressed elation that the Archdiocese under Archbishop Valles is open to the idea of donating portions of the Church property at the Centro Pastoral in Gov. Camins in support of the city development plans. (Sheila Covarrubias)

Bullish economy attracted AUB to Zamboanga

Zamboanga City’s bullish economy of has attracted the Asia United Bank (AUB) to put up its 41st branch along Nuñez Extension, this city.

AUB Mindanao Area Manager Orman Manansala disclosed that the bank network would continue to open at least 12 more branches all over the country.

“AUB has grown up so fast, imagine we opened our first mother bank in 1997 and in a span of ten years we are now 41 branches,” Manansala boasted,

He said that the company has been looking at Zamboanga City to put up a branch the past years, but due to several processes like licenses with the Central Bank, caused the delay.

He said that AUB is 70 percent owned by Rebisco and the 30 percent by two top Taiwanese banks.

Manansala said the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has given AUB a very high CAMEL’s rating.

Camels stands for Capital Adequacy, Assets, Management Capability, Earning capacity and Liquidity and is rated number four in the ratings from a scale of five.

He said that the bank’s return on earning is 20 percent making it number one in terms of Return On Equity.

“We entered Zamboanga City because of its bullish economy and its peaceful environment,” he said.

AUB bank manager is Miss Jeanette Mendoza.

Mayor Celso Lobregat led bank officials and clients in yesterday’s inauguration. (Nonong Santiago)

just in my observation, most of the banks are just concentrated within the 7 kilometer radius..why not build branches in barangays like Ayala which is 15 kilometers from the city or in Sangali..they have booming economy that can rival that of barangays in the city proper..
