Turn-Over Ceremony and Blessing of the Two Storey 6 Classroom Building of Zambowood Elementary School. Today Nov.23, 2010

Hon. Mayor Celso L. Lobregat leads the Inaugural and Turn-Over Ceremony of the 2 Storey 6 Classroom Building today, November 23, 2010. The event held at Brgy. Zambowood, Putik, Zamboanga City. The newly inaugurated school building, was constructed through funding from the City Mayor's Office-Special Education Funds which came from 50% part of the Realty Tax collection. Also the Mayor, mentioned the yearly added salary of 25% given by his office is also a share from the pie of SEF.

He also noted that the taxes being collected help replenish shortages of text-books, employ additional teachers, school materials, and other aids. The new school building will house the increasing volume of the student population. He cited that last year the enrollment figure was just 769 pupils but now it gone high up to 1003 in Zambowood alone.

The importance of increasing the Realty Tax amount was also quoted imperative to make these projects came to reality. He mentioned, that this project is one way of preparing the children to become better individuals, contributors to a progressive community, and become Zamboanga City's pride in the future.

The Mayor's request from the school children was to exert more efforts to study and do their share as pupils, and for teachers and staff to maintain the building well so that future students can learn inside it in comfort.

During the message of Mr. Floriano D. Lumagbas, Jr., the principal, he thanked the Mayor and the City Councilors and others Gov't officials who helped the school building project come to reality. He said that new school building is a"gift" from city government.

The ceremonial cutting of the ribbon was headed by Hon. Mayor Celso L. Lobregat and Hon. Vice-Mayor Cesar Iturralde with Dr. Dolores B. Alcantara - Schools Division Suprintendent, Ms. Carmen M. Saculinggan - Public Schools District Supervisor, Mr. Floriano D. Lumagbas, Jr.- Elem. School Principal I, Hon. Herbert Abraham - Barangay Chairman, SPO4 Apolinario A. Rosete - GPTA President.

Yung about SM po, it comes from a very reliable source who's a friend of the Sy family. He also, I guess, works for SM. In SSC-Mindanao threads (since I haven't really visited threads from Visayas and Luzon), he is the one who discloses updates about SM Malls even before they're released to the press. The news about SM City Zamboanga coming in 2012 or 2013 surfaced after his series of talks with Mr. Hans Sy (http://www.people.nfo.ph/businessman/hans-sy/). Mr. Hans said Zamboanga is next in line (after the renovation / expansion / construction of SMs in Davao, CDO, and Gensan) and that he is very optimistic about the city. :cheers:

Following the city’s commitment to assist the education sector, Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday turned over a two-storey six- classroom building worth P5.288 million to the Southern Support Command Elementary School in barangay Upper Calarian, this city.

He said the newly constructed building benefits the 1,605 pupils and teachers of the Southern Support Command Elementary School, whose classroom-student ratio is now down to 1:40 from 1:48.

Normina Kenoh, school principal, in her welcome remarks expressed her deepest gratitude and appreciation to the chief executive for giving her school a new building. “This is a dream come true; a dream realized.”

Also present during the inauguration rites were Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, Councilors Rudy Lim, Gerky Valesco, Noning Biel and Nonong Guingona together with Education Supervisor Nenita Agan representing City Schools Division Superintendent Dolores Alcantara, District Supervisor Duterte, Upper Calarian Chairperson Flor Arcillas, Rev. The consultation-meeting is in parallel with the District I congresswoman’s thrust on participatory governance where consultation is very important.

Since she assumed office as representative of the first district of the city in 2007, Cong. Climaco has made it a point to consult with the officials from the 37 barangays in the west coast to ensure that all programs and projects being implemented in the different areas are with the consent of the people.

Cong. Climaco said she is optimistic that the new barangay officials will help her make the barangays more involved in relevant undertakings in the days and months to come.

The new set of barangay officials, who were elected into office last October 25, will officially assume their posts noontime of November 30.

In her first term, the lady solon met with the District I barangay officials on different forum—sometimes as one group and there were times visiting the officials in their individual barangays just to seek their opinions or comments on projects she intended to implement.

“Through dedication and participatory governance, District I has grown from the baby that I was a mere 3 years ago to make its baby steps with services that are relevant to the needs of its members”,thus emphasized Cong. Beng Climaco, as she reported to the people the gains she acquired during the over first 2 years of her term, last January.

As of last January, Cong. C.limaco’s accomplishments accounted to a total of P766.795 million worth of projects from 2007-2009 that include various projects intended to help ameliorate the condition of the residents of the 37 barangays under her district.

Significant to mention in the projects impelemented are the distribution of the 37 L-300 vans to all the District I barangays, the P691.63M worth of infrastructure projects, P11.8 million for health care, P4.2 million worth of scholarships offered, P1.4 million for social welfare services and 54 bills authored and co-authored at the House of Congress.

“All these we do in the service of our people. In the desire to perform and deliver the passion to ensure that every Zamboangueno in District I feels the relevance of this government is what drives me”, the lady solon said in her message during the maiden session of the City Council last January.

The J-Jireh School at Suterville this city will celebrate its 44th foundation week on November 24 - 28, 2010 with the theme " Roaring in Advancement for a Maximum Success".

Founded in 1966 by Rev. Bernardo C. Balayo, the school started as a kindergarten located at Yellow Beach, Calarian; then transferred to its present location in 1974 with complete elementary and a complete high school in 1982. Three-year ladderized TESDA courses were opened in the year 2000 and 4-year courses in BS Computer Science and BS Information Technology under CHED supervision were added this year.

Highlights of the 5-day festivities include a parade and float contest, banner raising, playground demonstration, cheer dance competition (Nov. 24); Musical & neo-ethnic dance contest, athletic games and kindergarten day, alumni and talent night (Nov.25); Culinary arts presentation and Sponsorship Program Day; Search for Mr. & Ms. J-Jireh 2010 (Nov. 26); Championship games, Closing Program and Awarding of Prizes (Nov. 27) and Thanksgiving and Church Anniversary (Nov. 28)

The school is managed by a board of trustees with Mrs. Corazon Y. Lim as chairperson and Allan Bernard A. Balayo as school Administrator.

Foundation activities will be culminated by a thanksgiving and anniversary service at J-Jireh Gospel Church on Nov. 28 with the speaker, Dr. Ben Cabral of Ebenezer Bible College & Seminary.

Redesigned peso bills’ launch set next month -- BSP (http://bworldonline.com/main/content.php?id=21743)

REDESIGNED peso bills are expected to be unveiled in three weeks and could be in circulation before the year ends, a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) official yesterday said.

"[They are] still being printed. Tentatively set for the 2nd week of December," central bank Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo said in a text message when asked when the new bills would be launched.

An exact date for their issuance has not been set, Mr. Guinigundo said, adding that the launch will be followed by road shows in Manila, La Union, Cebu and Davao.

He declined to give details on the new designs.

BSP Deputy Governor Armando L. Suratos last September said the new bills would begin circulating in December. He also said the new 500-peso bill would have the image of former President Corazon C. Aquino with her husband, Benigno S. Aquino, Jr.

Included in the redesign are new security features for the easier detection of fake money. The changes will be made to the 20-peso, 50-peso, 100-peso, 200-peso, 500-peso and 100-peso notes.

The old peso bills, the central bank has said, will remain in circulation three years after the new bills are released.

The BSP is also studying new designs for the one-centavo, five-centavo, 10-centavo, 25-centavo, one-peso, five-peso and 10-peso coins.

MANILA, Philippines – The government is exploring the possibility of prioritizing the development of the proposed Mindanao Railway, a proposal which was originally hatched during the Estrada administration and was pushed by then ARMM chairman Nur Misuari.

“Explore the possibility of prioritizing the Mindanao Railway,” stated an aide memoire of the National Economic and Development Authority following the recent consultation on the chapter on infrastructure under the 2010-2016 Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan.

Most recent project estimates have placed the total project cost at P66.5-billion, approximately $1.33-billion.

It is envisioned to be implanted in four phases: initially from Laguindingan to Cagayan de Oro City; second from Laguindingan to Iligan City ; third from Cagayan de Oro to Phividec area in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and the fourth phase from Iligan City to Linamon town, Lanao del Norte. The project aims to cut the present 90-minute travel time by buys between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to 15-20 minutes.

The initial Mindanao strategic railway development plan will link urban centers like Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Marawi, Cotabato and Davao cities.

The Mindanao Railway System project aims to provide a sage and economical transport alternative for moving goods and people in Mindanao , which in the long run, will help in the socio-economic development of the island.

The Mindanao Railway System is part of the list of projects identified and presented to investors for medium-term rollout at the recently-concluded Public-Private Partnership forum.

A feasibility study for the project is being reviewed and deliberated by the NEDA Regional Office 10, but a more detailed FS still need to be determined. Initial timetable points to a phased project implementation through PPP to be undertaken in 2011.

The proposed rail will span the entirety of Mindanao with a total length of approximately 2000 kilometers.

The master plan indicates connections to all major population centers in Mindanao . The railway network will be implemented in phases.

Phase 1 calls for the construction of a 124-km railway line from Iligan City to Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao.

It will traverse ten coastal municipalities in Misamis Oriental, namely: Lugait, Manticao, Naawan, Initao, Libertad, Gitagum, Laguindingan, Alubijid , El Salvador and Opol.

Earlier, the project was scheduled to start in 2011 with the initial spur of the first phase between Cagayan de Oro City and the new airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

But the entire project would take 5-7 years to complete. (BCM)

La Purisima Street isn't the main avenue in the city, but it's one of the most important and one of the busiest streets in the city. :)

I saw this too! :colgate: Parang Chooks na Chooks nga talaga yung ichura ng sign nila. Fiesta Cooks ata full name neto. That store really caught our attention nung dumaan kame dun. Some of us were puzzled while others just laughed thinking that it was a mistake or something. Akala ko parang tiny version lang ng Chooks. :nuts:

I remembered way back in 1996 when we had our group from Bukidnon assigned in ZC. As usual as it is today, we took the bus from valencia to cdo and a cutting trip from cdo to zc via pag (where we spent the night) we took the 2nd trip the next morning because the first was "too early" as others complained. I just kept silent and intended to surprise them with their option. We reached Mialim at 7:30 am and of course the conductor announced that we take our breakfast. Many have noticed the signboards around (e.g. Vitali Bus Terminal - Mialim Vitali Zamboanga City) and so suggest that we have our breakfast when we reach our quarters. It was good enough our team leader asked for my opinion and this time I said, I can't afford another "hurting surprise". I suggested to have our breakfast as all others did. Some were anxious why it took so long a stop when we were already in the city - they never realized that bus drivers take enough rest before finally traversing ZC's extra long portion of the National highway. We finally reached our quarters (in Cawa-cawa) in time to prepare for lunch. That was a sweeter surprise then.

I just heard an amazing 2-in-1 news today! NEDA suggested that the Zamboanga International Airport be transferred to, wait for this, VITALI DISTRICT. YES, you've heard it right. V-I-T-A-L-I. BUT, luckily, Councilor Jerky Valesco said that it was ridiculous and suggested instead that the airport be transferred to the location that many of us have been suggesting: SACOL ISLAND. :colgate:

I dunno, but I think Sacol Island would be a better location for ZIA than Mercedes district. You see, when the government builds a bridge connecting mainland ZC to Sacol, the road that would most likely lead to the mainland side of the Bienvenidos Bridge (:lol:) would be passing through Mercedes, that would make Mercedes a good place for business (esp for the hospitality industry) since people would be traversing this district frequently to get to one of the city's most important venues, ZIA. The needs its scarce flatlands for developments other than an airport. Putting ZIA in Sacol would mean saving these flatlands in mainland ZC for other developments. :cheers: Naisip ko rin ang Manicahan. It has vast flatlands din na very fitting for an airport and it's just less than an hour from the current location of ZIA. Yes, it's also in the mainland but mas malayo ito sa Mercedes so there's still plenty of space for the city to expand between it and the current CBD. :)

Talagang dapat gastosan ng natoinal gov't ang development ng ZC esp the ZIA. After all, ZC is not "just another urban area" it is the Phils' gateway to BIMP-EAGA being the natural hub. Now if the Philippines would like to get it's fair share with EAGA, better invest in ZC with multi-billion national infrastructure projects like ZIA, ZISP, more wide roads, etc. If the national gov't will fail to do this in five years, kulelat na naman tayo sa BIMP and SEA...:bash::ohno: @ Stern: Just like in my older posts, ZIA in Sacol is like hitting 3 birds with one stone without any damage. While ZIA elsewhere is hitting a bird with one stone plus a damage (reduction of scarce flat lands).

I just remember kasi the time Ive had a long chat @FB with our good councilor Gerky (time when he claimed that a big investor MIGHT develop a part of Sta.Cruz).


When I brought up to him that the New ZIA should be relocated at Sacol, and not Mercedes, he replied with statements saying that it might already be impossible, due to many factors that it has to consider (like flight path.). But I countered 'em with more advantages than those disadvantages that seemed to be the recessive than the former.

Great job in getting Gerky to think about that alternative. :colgate: Anyway, why don't we make an FB page calling the LGU and the national gov't to construct the ZIA on Sacol Island? That way, more Zamboangueños will know about this better alternative. :)

^^maybe I change my mid it could be beautiful nga if sacol island will be made into a nice ZIA complex with such a beautiful Hotels, resorts and an airbase with a beautiful bridge taht links Taluksangay and Sacol island heheh....:lol::lol:

Cavite set to revive Chabacano

CAVITE, Philippines – The Cavite City Council is set to pass an ordinance that will preserve and revive the Chavacano language in the area.

Cavite City, the former capital of Cavite province, is noted as one of the few areas in the Philippines where the Chavacano language is spoken.

Two others noted for the Spanish-like dialect are Ternate, also in Cavite, and Zamboanga City.

The proposed ordinance on the preservation of the language is now on its third reading at the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP).

Majority of the councilors wanted the ordinance passed as soon as possible so that moves for the language can be implemented by January 2011.

Modernization or the changing times have made Chavacano an endangered language in Cavite City.

Only seven percent of the city population can speak the language these days, based on a local survey.

City officials and residents, mostly elderly, have moved to prevent the language from extinction.

Councilor Eduardo Novero has filed the proposed ordinance preserving and reviving the language City Tourism Officer Remedios Sto. Domingo-Ordoñez welcomed the ordinance’s approval as “it would boost tourism further in the area.”

Once the ordinance is passed, the Chavacano language, among others, will be taught in public schools and that the city or public signage will be in Chavacano.

“Habla Chavacano? The move is to turn things to Chavacano. The welcome sign will be made ‘Bienvenida,’ saying thank you will be said ‘muchos gracias,’ love ‘amor,’ among others,” said Ordoñez.

Chabacano or Chavacano is listed as one of the Creole languages in the world that is based on Spanish.

The language was virtually brought by the early Spanish settlers in Cavite City in the late 16th century.

The city is considered the second oldest area in the country after Mactan, Cebu, reportedly the first place that was discovered by Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.
