zoroethgenre_003 April 11th, 2008, 03:12 AM Valesco addresses Arts Night
Councilor Gerky Valesco extolled local young artists involved in the Special Program in the Arts and branded them as cultural champions who sincerely epitomize and promote the enriching beauty of Zamboanga City through their enduring immersion in the artistic discipline.
Valesco, who is an acknowledged artist in visual arts and letters, was invited as one of the special guests during the Arts Night of the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) of the Zamboanga City High School (Main) held Friday at the Celebrity Hall of the Grand Astoria Hotel.
Valesco said he is delighted to note that in Zamboanga City, there are many excellent artists in various fields. He said these young artists are cultural ambassadors because they personify the city and the people with colorful impressions.
“I am forever grateful to our young artists who put across their artistic potentials and capability in accentuating the beauty of our people thru their enduring works in performance and creative arts,” he said.
Valesco, a grand prize winner in a national painting competition in 1989, said students should continue to hone their talents and should continue to find inspiration from our own city. “We should bear in mind that the deeds and works of the artists are true reflection of our culture. And as Zamboangueños, we are known for our passion for the arts, music, letters, and dances which is a celebration of decent and civilized life,” he said.
Eloisa B. Ruste, school principal of ZCHS, said local artists should be glad that in Zamboanga, we have a genuine artist who sits at the City Council and who knows how to promote the city through arts and culture.
Ruste said this is the very reason why they have invited Valesco as one of the guests because “he (Valesco) is an artist who knows, who understands, and who appreciates the progression of the arts.”
Also present during the Arts Night 2008 were Lynne Celestial, Henry Elnas, SPA Regional Director, and other officials from the education department.
astroboy1234 April 11th, 2008, 06:28 AM Thanks for the updates Zoro and Windlady. But isn't it kinda odd to imagine that tricycles will be the one lining up in the major malls that will be established in the city? It really is an eyesore but also heavy on the pocket because this drivers overcharge thier passengers. I hope local officials are doing something about this. They should encourage taxis to roam on the city more rather than this trikes. It is not good to see this for a high urbanized city such as ours.

^^in regards to robinson i havent heard any news but for sm mall ther are already plans being made for sm mall zamboanga. will just have to wait. patience is a virtue. jejejejejeje:nuts:
Yeah. I agree that SM will have plans for building a mall in Zamboanga for reasons:
1. Zamboanga has now a population of 800,000+ people, so there should be more job openings offed by SM.
2. Zamboanga will also be included in the charities initiated by the SM Foundation (like giving old books to the people in poor communities for education) with the support of the local government. McDonald's Charities has already donated a day-care center in Sta. Maria thorugh its Bahay Bulilit Program.
3. The planned mall could be a City Mall (with a department store and supermarket) or Supercenter (with hypermart only).
4. The east coast area will serve as the new business center in the city. Gaisano Capital (Eddie Gaisano's company) will also build a mall in the west coast sometime in 2009-2010.
I hope SM will bring much economic prosper in the city despite of the rumors that the mall giant will not rise in Asia's Latin City by having the local investors stop the rise of major malls as if their business may be greatly affected and popularity of big malls.

astroboy1234 April 13th, 2008, 06:09 AM High-powered ordnances used in twin Zambo blasts
04/13/2008 | 10:43 AM
High-powered ordances were used in the twin explosions that rocked Zamboanga City on Sunday, an investigator of the city police told radio dzBB.
Supt. Jonathan Perez said an 81-millimeter mortar was used in the blast that occurred at 4:10 a.m., at the city's Metropolitan Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral along La Purisima Street.
He said a 60-mm mortar was used in the second blast near a bank on Veterans Avenue, which was about 1.5 kilometers away from the cathedral.
Three men perpetrated "acts of terrorism" using "hi-tech" timing devices aided by cellular phones, according to Perez.
He said the first blast damaged two vehicles - an Isuzu and a Mitsubishi Adventure. A certain Mr Marquez owned the Isuzu, while the other car belonged to Zambonga Archbishop Romulo Valles.
The explosion shattered the windows of the cathedral, and left a half-inch deep crater in the area.
Perez said authorities are now on heightened alert. He said the police might come out with the cartographic sketches of the perpetrators Sunday afternoon. ^^

astroboy1234 April 14th, 2008, 10:03 AM Abu Sayyaf eyed in twin bomb attacks in Zamboanga
04/14/2008
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The police here said it was looking into the possibility that the Abu Sayyaf Group was behind the two bomb attacks here on Sunday.
Superintendent Jonathan Perez, officer-in-charge of the city police command, said the Abu Sayyaf was on top of the list of suspects "because the trademark of the improvised explosive devise [bombs fashioned from mortars] used is identified with the group."
"Besides, they are the number one threat in the city," Perez said.
The police have come up with an artist's sketch of the three suspects, based on the description provided by the caretaker of the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral, which was bombed Sunday dawn.
Some 10 minutes after the explosion at the cathedral, another bomb exploded outside a café just below the office of the Department of Foreign Affairs here.
"We are coordinating with the different intelligence units of the military and police to determine the identity of the suspects," Perez said.
He said the bombs used in Sunday's attacks were similar to those used in bombings in the cities of Cotabato and General Santos.
Superintendent Jose Bayani Gucela, chief of the Western Mindanao Regional Explosives and Ordnance Detection Unit (REODU), agreed with Perez, but stressed that they still have to determine if the Abu Sayyaf was behind the attacks.
Gucela said they have recovered "lot numbers" of the mortars used as improvised bombs, "and these will serve as the key to our investigation."
Through the lot numbers, investigators could trace the source of the mortars.
"We are not saying here that the military … although mortars are exclusive use of the AFP[Armed Forces of the Philippines], it may come from unexploded ordnance that were used in the past battles by the military and may have been recovered and recycled by other groups," he said.

astroboy1234 April 14th, 2008, 10:06 AM Military probes Zamboanga explosion
04/14/2008
MANILA, Philippines -- The military is investigating the explosion that occurred in Zamboanga City over the weekend, Armed Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said Monday.
Explosions ripped through the premises of the Immaculate Conception Metro Cathedral and a three-story building housing an office of the Department of Foreign Affairs at dawn Sunday but caused no casualties, police said.
"We are still looking into that, until then when I have some definite things about it, I would like to refrain from commenting on that but we are looking into it," Esperon told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo.
A report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of the INQUIRER.net, said that a caretaker of the cathedral saw three men entering the church premises before the first explosion occurred. They were then seen leaving on a motorcycle that headed downtown Zamboanga, where the second blast happened.
The caretaker said he heard the men talk in a dialect spoken in Jolo, a known bailiwick of the Abu Sayyaf.

astroboy1234 April 14th, 2008, 10:14 AM Anyway despite of what recently happened to the city lets look on the positive aspects of Zamboanga. Zamboanga has already been used to this things but there's one thing these people who destroys the peace of the city can not take away and it is the unity of fellow Muslims and Christians living in harmony and want Zamboanga to be a better place for them. If all are united evil will never prevail no matter how hard they try to disturb the peace of the land.

zoroethgenre_003 April 16th, 2008, 10:31 AM City hosts 2 nat’l events Celso asks guests to spread good news about Zamboanga
Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday asked the over 2, 000 participants to the 58th National Convention of the Philippine Pharmacists Association to be the city’s ambassadors of goodwill and tourism by spreading the good news about Zamboanga.
In his welcome speech during the convention’s opening ceremonies at the Astoria Regency, Lobregat lamented that misperception brought about by wrong dateline attribution shuns out of towners from Zamboanga City and Mindanao.
The holding of national events in the city, he said would give Zamboanguenos the opportunity to show to the whole world what Zamboanga truly is: beautiful, peaceful and vibrant.
About 90 percent of the total participants to the Pharmacists Convention are first timers in Zamboanga and were apprehensive in coming over due to negative impression about the city’s peace and order situation.
Coming over to Zamboanga, the visitors will know the reality on the ground, according to Lobregat.
Aside from the Pharmacists, over 4,000 athletes, coaches and officials from the different private schools, colleges and universities in the country are also in Zamboanga City for the 2008 National PRISAA.
The 6-day PRISAA kicked off Wednesday and in his welcome speech during the opening program at the Joaquin Enriquez Grandstand also urged the participants to explore the city and to see for themselves the real situation in Zamboanga.
He said the city is hosting the PRISAA for the third time, the first was in 1993 and the second was in 2005.
“As you converge in our city, I invite you to explore, visit the different attractions and feel for yourselves what Zamboanga City truly is. And when you return to your places of origin, please help us spread the good news about Zamboanga. Please be our ambassadors of goodwill and ambassadors of tourism”, the mayor said.
In his welcome message to both the pharmacists and the PRISAA athletes, the mayor elaborated on the Asia’s Latin City branding of the city and the city’s vision to make Zamboanga a unique premiere city of Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, Sen. Panfilo Lacson was the guest of honor and speaker during the Pharmacists Convention opening program where the senator cited the important role played by the pharmacists in the society.

By Felino M. Santos
ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 17 (PNA) -- A group of seven investors from Brunei Darussalam have finalized initial business ventures on Halal-accredited products from Zamboanga Peninsula region.
According to Department of Agriculture (DA) regional executive director Oscar Parawan, the visit of the Brunei traders last week was part of trade and investment exploratory mission within the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
"This visit is one of the concrete offshoots of BIMP-EAGA Natural Resources Development (NRD) under the BIMP-EAGA NRD Cluster meetings/conferences that are being held regularly to advocate sustainable trade and investments in the growth polygon," Parawan explained.
Dr. Haji Amzah bin Haji Abdul Rahman of the Department of Agriculture–Brunei Darussalam headed the Brunei team that also include: Haji Sijom Abdullah, Ak. Jofree bin Pangiran Haji Mohammad Daud, Haji Lakim bin Bangkol, Hanafi bin Haji Ahmad, Dayang Marifi Anuenova and Nurlina binti Abdullah.
"They are willing to buy products from our region as long as the demands are met like the Halal accreditation and the volume of production," Parawan said.
Halal refers to any product that goes through Muslim religious practices where animals are slaughtered, dressed or processed for food shall be under strict Muslim sanitation requirements.
Brunei investors have expressed intentions of getting 500,000 heads of dressed chicken; day old chicks; 1,000 heads of goats and a number of coconuts in the region on a monthly basis.
During the visit, the Mendoza Bottled Sardines based in Dipolog City has also been given a chance to be part of the business ventures.
Dr. Amzah said since Brunei Darussalam is a small country, they have to buy products from other countries like the Philippines and trade them to countries such as those the Middle East. (PNA)
Farirah April 17th, 2008, 07:04 AM EAGA ICT working group eyes promotion of wireless technology
By Teofilo P. Garcia
ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 16 (PNA) -– Key officials and private sector players in the field of information and communications technology (ICT) in the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) have recently agreed to heighten promotion of the use of wireless technology.
This, as an innovative step in enhancing BIMP-EAGA’s relevance in the global market, according to a statement issued during the 3rd BIMP-EAGA Telecommunications Meeting held in Brunei.
An official of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) who heads the Philippine delegation to the meeting said the members of the BIMP-EAGA Working Group on ICT agreed to continue promoting the use of wireless technology networks like WiFi and WiMax particularly in addressing connectivity issues in the rural areas.
NTC-9 Regional Director Edgardo Celorico, who headed the Philippine delegation, disclosed the group also agreed to continue to discuss mechanisms on how this technology will be regionally adopted in the growth area in succeeding cluster meetings.
WiFi and WiMax are broadband access technologies which are already being utilized in many countries, including the Philippines.
The four-member grouping also agreed to work on developing and implementing the Next Generation Network (NGN) by conducting a case study in BIMP-EAGA.
NGN technologies, like the use of voice-over internet protocol, are already being adopted by local telecommunication companies in the four countries.
“Promoting the use of wireless technology such as WiFi and WiMax will help accelerate the development of ICT in the sub-region,” Celorico said.
Celorico, who also chairs the Infrastructure Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Mindanao ICT task force, said that wide unserved and underserved areas in Mindanao could be covered by this technology.
Brunei Darussalam also strongly supported the initiatives of the EAGA ICT Working Group and urged for the development of innovative ICT applications adding that ICT is becoming a basic necessity and the “driver and enabler of businesses.”
Brunei Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Hj. Alaihuddin sees that through the development of innovative ICT, “we can truly leverage our local resources and enhance BIMP-EAGA's relevance in the global market.”
Meanwhile, the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) said that the BIMP-EAGA Working Group on ICT, which was revived last year also called for the creation of a cluster separate from the Transport and Infrastructure Development Cluster.
MEDCo said the recommendation was noted during the recent Transport, Infrastructure and ICT Development Cluster Meeting also held here and will be submitted to BIMP-EAGA Senior Officials for approval.
Through the creation of a BIMP-EAGA ICT Cluster, member countries will be able to bring focus to ICT development issues in the sub-region and improve coordination and cooperation among ICT players in the sub-region.
Participants of the meeting also visited Brunei Darussalam’s iCenter, an ICT incubation center which aims to mold new generation of technopreneurs (or ICT entrepreneurs) not only in Brunei but also in the BIMP-EAGA.
“The world is becoming increasingly inter-dependent, inter-connected and the confluence of competitive forces and the advancement and convergence of info-communications technology will only serve to increase the rate of business and socio-economic growth across the globe,” Hj Alaihuddin said.
Addressing digital divide has been one of the priority agenda in mainstreaming ICT as a key strategy in the development of the sub-region.
During the 1st BIMP-EAGA ICT Conference in October last year, ICT officials and players of the four countries met to strengthen collaboration in improving ICT in the sub-region and addressing regional ICT issues such as connectivity. (PNA)

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) regional office in coordination with the local government has opened on Friday a bagsakan center at the village of Labuan, 30 kilometers west of Zamboanga City.
DA Agricultural Program Coordinator Ramon Bucoy said the bagsakan center is a facility where farmers can bring their farm produce and sell it on a wholesale or retail basis.
Bucoy said the bagsakan center would be of great help to the residents of the said village and nearby areas where most people are into farming.
Labuan and the nearby villages plant vegetables, coconuts and other root crops.
Bucoy said the Labuan bagsakan center is the second center in the region. It comprises the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur and the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga.
The first was opened in the village of Sanito in the town of Ipil, the capital of the nearby Zamboanga Sibugay province.
The bagsakan center project, implemented nationwide by DA, is one of the strategies of the government to mitigate hunger.
According to Bucoy, the opening and inauguration of the center was spearheaded by Mayor Celso Lobregat. (Bong Garcia)

astroboy1234 April 21st, 2008, 05:11 AM I have bright hopes for our City. Considering to be the 3rd largest city in area in the country gives it a potential and ideal for more investments and opportunities. I do hope all the plans being made for Zamboanga will definitely push through. More investments will come in. As what we observed Filipinos love to go to big shopping malls and hope we will have a big branded one soon. Its a trend that people appreciate a city not only of its great environment but also what it offers and this is one aspect people are looking in to. Hope this will become a reality not only for a fact it will generate jobs to our fellow Zamboangueños but also will boost the city's economy as well. I don't like those entrepreneurs who are opposing this big investments coming in saying it will be affect their business but in the world of business competition is the name of the game if they want to succeed regardless if the business is big or small as long they provide quality and affordable things to consumers there's no reason they will be left behind and be scared of other investors coming in. ^^ ^^ ^^

astroboy1234 April 22nd, 2008, 09:40 AM PAL adds more Davao-Manila flights
by Prix D Banzon
Davao City (22 April) -- With Philippine Airlines load factor almost hitting 100 percent at the start of summer this year, an additional flight was added to its existing five daily the Davao-Manila flights.
Lawyer Domingo Duerme, PAL senior vice president for Mindanao said on Monday at the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM's Café Rysus that present Davao-Manila flights are full that is why they decided to add another flight that will depart from Davao at 9:35 in the evening.
Duerme said they will run the newest flight until June and if the demand for more seats continues then they will consider making it a regular route.
Starting April 24, he said the schedule for Davao Manila flights are as follows 7:30 am, 1:55 pm, 4:25 pm, 7:20 pm, 8:40 pm and 9:355 pm.
He said this would indicate that there are more travelers and more money will be coming in to Davao.
Duerme also said by June they will also serve other shorter routes like Cebu-Butuan, Cebu-Davao, Cebu-General Santos, Cebu-Cagayan, Cebu-Ozamis, Cebu-Zamboanga and Zamboanga-Davao.
To service these routes he said they had acquired Q 400. These are nine Canadian aircrafts (72-seaters) valued at $1.5 million.
He said this is the PAL Express will have its hub in Cebu because their maintenance facilities are already set up there. They might in the future consider Davao as their third hub but he said it is very expensive to set up one.
Duerme however said that they haven't increased their fare and the promo rates are still being offered to the riding public.
He said although rising cost of fuel this could be one reason to increase its fares but so far they have not received orders to increase the fare rates. (PIA) [top]

astroboy1234 April 22nd, 2008, 09:47 AM Zambo faces price crisis, not rice shortage
Zamboanga City (17 April) -- Officials from the National Food Authority (NFA) yesterday assured that Zamboanga City has a sufficient rice supply that can last until the next cropping season
NFA Regional Director Rolando Maravilla made this assurance during a meeting called by Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday morning at City Hall to assess the rice situation in the city in the wake of a nationwide rice crisis.
However, Maravilla said a price crisis occurs in the city as some rice traders have resorted to unjustified rice price increase.
In view of this, Mayor Lobregat has directed the NFA, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in coordination with the City Administrator's Office and other agencies concerned to strictly monitor the situation and ensure that rice prices are maintained at the normal level.
Maravilla said unlike other areas in the country, Zamboanga has adequate supply of citing the over 300, 000 bags of rice stocked at the NFA warehouse which can supply the city's demand for the next 50 days. In addition to this, 22, 000 bags of rice are expected to arrive from Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Sur and the neighboring areas.
Ramon "Poch" Bucoy of the Department of Agriculture regional office shared that additional rice supply would be ready for harvest next month.
Despite the figures, Mayor Lobregat expressed concern that the public might perceive a rice crisis and might resort to panic buying and overstocking. He appealed to the members of the press present during the meeting to be very careful so as not to frighten the public and cause artificial shortage.
The DTI disclosed that part of the problem is also the proliferation of adulterated rice. Taking advantage of the situation, some retailers at the main market were observed to be selling NFA rice at commercial prices.
In one of the inspections conducted by the agency, 13 retailers were caught selling the 18-per-kilo NFA rice at 23 to 25 per kilo.
And in view of the perceived rice shortage, people cue for NFA rice, however, in some instances, it is suspected that some people might be businessmen who purchase NFA rice to resell as fancy rice.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lobregat directed the DTI and the NFA to join forces in identifying, apprehending and sanctioning violators. He also enjoined the police and military's Task Force Zamboanga to help facilitate the smooth entry of rice supply from the neighboring provinces into the city.
Also in attendance during the meeting at City Hall were representatives from Grains Retailers Association, Consumernet, Zamboanga Market Stall Owners Association, Philippine Information Agency, local media, city department heads and other agencies concerned.

astroboy1234 April 22nd, 2008, 09:50 AM DA, Zambo City launch "Barangay Bagsakan"
Zamboanga City (21 April) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 9 in partnership with the City Government of Zamboanga headed by Mayor Celso L. Lobregat recently spearheaded the launching of the Barangay Bagsakan Center, a project initiated by the Department of Agriculture-9 in Labuan in the west coast.
The project, implemented by the DA nationwide, is one of the strategies of the government to mitigate hunger. The Labuan bagsakan center is the second in the region, the first was launched in Sanito, Ipil last month.
DA Agricultural Program Coordinator Ramon "Poch" Bucoy said the bagsakan center is one facility where farmers could bring their produce and sell them on a retail or wholesale basis.
Mayor Lobregat lauded the DA for the launching of the project in Labuan stressing that it will benefit the residents of the barangay and the neighboring areas where most people need affordable products.
Labuan chairman Francisco Santos also thanked the DA, Mayor Lobregat and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the endowment, stressing that it greatly helps the farmers and consumers alike.
Santos however lamented that the allocation of 30 bags of rice a week given by the National Food Authority for sale to Labuan residents is insufficient. He asked the DA and Mayor Lobregat to facilitate the possible increase of the allocation to 100 bags a week.
Mayor Lobregat on the other hand, committed to implement a water system project in Labuan, a facility that the residents have been clamoring for since several years back. He said the project will be funded by the city but the operation will be managed by the Zamboanga City Water District.
The bagsakan center facility is intended to be a drop-off center where farmers and fishermen can trade their produce directly to sellers without going through middlemen.
The DA plans to open more barangay bagsakan centers, where prime commodities are sold at prices lower than those in regular retail outlets.
Also present during the launching activity yesterday were Councilors Lynet Abarro, Rudy Lim, Jawo Jimenez, Gerky Valesco, Luis Biel III, Assistant City Agriculturist Teodulo Adora and farming and fishery council officials from the west coast.

astroboy1234 April 22nd, 2008, 09:53 AM BFAR 9 lauded for sardinella management plan
Zamboanga City (21 April) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) received its commendation from Mayor Celso Lobregat for initiating the proposed Sardinella Management plan, a holistic management plan geared to ensure a sustained canning industry in this part of the country.
In his welcome message during the consultative meeting on the Sardinella Management plan initiated by the BFAR, Lobregat said the initiative is geared towards two objectives: one, to protect, conserve and manage the Sardinella resources in the Sulu Sea and two, to sustain the operations of both municipal and commercial fishing boats and the canning industry of the city and the neighboring areas in Western Mindanao.
Lobregat said the proposed plan would directly benefit Zamboanga, which is known as the sardines capital of the country, as almost 90 percent of the country's sardine canning factories are located in the city.
The consultative meeting yesterday sought to finalize the Sardinella Management Plan which calls for the closed-season of the southeastern portion of Sulu sea for sardinella or tamban fishing from November 15 to February 15 every year for 5 years.
"The proposed Sardinella Management Plan is a laudable move on the part of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), as this is a holistic and effective management framework as well as a practical plan that is geared to ensure a sustained canning industry in this part of the country", Lobregat said.
Meanwhile Benjamin Tobias, Assistant Director for Administrative Services in BFAR-Manila called for collaboration between the government and the fisheries sector in order to better manage the sardinella resources.
The proposed management plan complements a Fisheries Administrative order entitled "Establishing a Closed Season for the Conservation of Sardines and Herrings, Scads and Mackerels in East Sulu Sea".
The consultative meeting yesterday was attended by stakeholders in the fisheries sector and was done in coordination with the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCO) and the Growth with Equity in Mindanao represented by Dr. Stanley Swerdloff.

astroboy1234 April 22nd, 2008, 09:57 AM 24 housing units awarded to poor families in Zambo City
Zamboanga City (21 April) -- 24 poor families were overjoyed as they received their certificates of house ownership recently in consonance with Zamboanga city government's comprehensive housing and resettlement program.
The housing units, constructed through the Church-based Gawad Kalinga and assistance coming from private institutions, are located at the Tulungatung Resettlement site.
The awarding ceremony which was lead by Mayor Celso Lobregat, also coincided with the oath taking of the Tulungatung Homeowners Association Inc. officials and the presentation of special programs on ecological waste management and the creation of a multi-purpose cooperative, was held at the City Hall conference room. The Housing Land Management Division under Rodrigo Pagotaisidro organized the activity.
Gawad Kalinga Foundation, Inc. provincial head, Deogracias V. Maranga and Councilors Rey Candido, Lynette Marcos-Abarro, Nonie Guingona, Lilia Nuño, Kim Elago and Rudy Lim assisted the mayor during the awarding rite. Present also were barangay chairmen Charlito Sumbrana of Tulungatung, Allen Feliciano of San Roque, Betty Lou Reyes of San Jose Gusu, Edwina Francisco of Cabatangan, Antonio Deles of Camino Nuevo and Boy Aminula of Recodo.
Of the total 24 beneficiaries, 14 were presented with symbolic keys to their housing units constructed with funds from the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC).
Pagotaisidro clarified that there were actually 18 recipients, but only 14 were awarded because the other 4 still have to comply with documentary requirements.
Eighty-six families were also to receive a house each from Surrey, but of this number, only 10 were awarded during Wednesday's ceremony.
According to Pagotaisidro, the selection of the 10 beneficiaries was based on the so-called "sweat earnings" or the number of hours contributed by each family to the construction of the Surrey duplex units. He assured that the remaining 76 families would get their houses as soon as construction is completed.
To ensure fair distribution of the units, the 10 families were asked to draw lots that contained lot numbers of each housing unit.
Beneficiaries of the Surrey units were mostly victims of conflagration, demolition and road widening projects.
Mayor Lobregat also administered the oath-taking of the officers of the RMJB Tulungatung Homeowners Association, Incorporated.

PAL adds more Davao-Manila flights
by Prix D Banzon
(PIA) [top]

astroboy1234 April 23rd, 2008, 03:31 PM Zambo City to have own sanitary landfill system
Zamboanga City (23 April) -- The city government of Zamboanga with the support of the World Bank is paving the way for the implementation of a sanitary landfill system.
Mayor Celso Lobregat said assessment and evaluation of the site for the sanitary landfill are being undertaken with technical assistance from the World Bank.
Negotiations for the purchase of the landfill area would follow soon.
According to Lobregat, the Lumbangan dumpsite, which adopts the control system, would be shutdown soon to give way to the sanitary landfill system, a requirement by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Initially, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office under Engr. Reynaldo Gonzales, has identified the areas of Malagutay, Salaan and Lumayang and Lumbangan (another area) as possible site for the land fill system.
However, per initial assessment, the Salaan area was found to be the most feasible site.
Lobregat is confident that the sanitary landfill would be realized soon stressing that the city government has constantly allocated funds in the annual budget for the last three years.
As of this year, the allocation for the project has reached an estimated P50 million, according to the mayor.
Meanwhile, Lobregat urged the support and cooperation of all residents in the effort to protect the environment specifically in the proper disposal of garbage.
As waste generators, Lobregat said each and every resident of the city has the responsibility to see to it that the environment is protected and preserved.
Lobregat led city government officials and employees and other national agencies in the observance of Earth Day in Zamboanga yesterday.
The activities, organized by the OCENR included a revisit of the Green Philippine Highways Project and the planting of mangrove propagules at the Mampang Mangrove Area.

astroboy1234 April 23rd, 2008, 03:33 PM Zambo City mayor calls for protection of environment
Zamboanga City (23 April) -- In observance of Earth Day, Mayor Celso Lobregat revisited on Tuesday (April 22) the Green Philippine Highways Program, a DENR-initiated project held over a year ago, to ensure a high rate of tree survival in the area adopted by the city government along Maria Clara Lobregat Highway in the east coast.
City government personnel representing the different offices were deployed to their respective areas of assignment to check on the trees they planted on August 25, 2006, when the Green Philippine Highways Project was launched nationwide. The mayor happily noted that 25 of the 35 seedlings planted in the designated area of the City Mayor's Office have grown to decent heights with only ten needed to be replaced.
Of the 455 mahogany seedlings planted by city government personnel along the MCLL Highway stretching from Divisoria to Lubigan, 256 survived. Mayor Lobregat was keen on replacing the trees that perished and on sustaining the Green Philippine Highway project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Mayor Lobregat charged everyone of the responsibility of protecting the environment. As waste generators, everyone must do his or her own share in keeping the environment clean and in delaying the impact of global warming.
Joining the mayor during the revisit activity were Councilors Lynet Abarro, Eddie Saavedra and Abdurahman Nuno.
The mayor also visited the Mangrove Reforestation Area in Mampang to take part in the replanting of 1,300 mangrove propagules. Several members of the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines under the leadership of Col. Wolcroft gamely took on the brackish water to plant the propagules.
The effort to conserve the mangroves is a collaboration of the JSOTF-Philippines, Barangays Mampang and Talon-Talon, Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
The 65-hectare mangrove area in Mampang was adopted by the city government through a Memorandum of Agreement signed with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources several years back to protect and preserve the marshland.
Green Philippine Highways was the massive greening of major highways all over the country through a nationwide simultaneous tree planting activities last August 25, 2006. It was envisioned to strengthen public concern towards environmental protection and to restore air quality within standards in the next 5 years.
Activities for the Earth Day celebration in Zamboanga City were organized by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office under Engr. Reynaldo Gonzales.

astroboy1234 April 23rd, 2008, 03:35 PM Zambo Sur has enough rice - DA
Pagadian City (23 April) -- Zamboanga del Sur, which ranks 8th as a major rice-producing province in the country enjoys abundant rice supply.
"Being the OIC-Provincial Agriculturist, I can say that the province does not experience any rice shortage as of the moment," Ms. Mahleen Bersales enthused. "In fact in 2007, the province has a production surplus of 49.27%. thus Zamboanga del Sur does not feel any rice shortage."
Ms. Bersales added that if only there is a legislation that will control rice shipment out of the province, rice would never be a scarcity. Since there is free trade in our country, it may not be possible.
Board Member Roger J. Saniel, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture said because of media blitz, prices have increased and rice traders from the metropolis are buying rice higher than the prevailing price here.
He added that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan would recommend to Governor Aurora E. Cerilles, who is out of the country as of press time, the creation of a Task Force to control rice shipment from the province, which is a major-rice producing area.
On the other hand, Ms. Bersales expressed optimism when she said "because of the assistance and intervention of the national government and the full support of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, it is very much possible that rice prices would soon be stabilized," Ms. Bersales added.
In a recent meeting of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan with rice millers and other concerned agencies, Mr. Johnston Yu of Young's Milling in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur observed that the national media has magnified the shortage of rice causing businessmen and some households to hoard stocks resulting to shortage of rice in the market.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said the city's production is enough to supply 30-35% only of rice to its residents. The remaining 60-65% of the demand is dependent on the prduce of nearby Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay provinces.

astroboy1234 April 24th, 2008, 10:38 AM DOH 9 urges Zambo City residents to practice 4S vs dengue
By Jocelyn P. Alvarez
Zamboanga City (24 April) -- With the sustained high prevalence rate of dengue cases in the city, the Department of Health-Center for Health Development-Zamboanga Peninsula calls for the cooperation of all individuals to do their share in the fight against Dengue.
DOH 9 urges the Zamboanga City residents to practice the 4S strategy as a measure of Dengue control. 4S refers to 1. Search and Destroy-which translates to identifying all possible breeding areas of mosquitoes and Destroying it; 2.) Self Protection Measure-protecting yourself from mosquito bites 3.) Seek early consultation-in case of a suspected Dengue case, seek immediate medical help; 4.) Say no to indiscriminate fogging.
DOH also urges Zamboagueños to do the 4 O'clock habit to combat mosquito population growth. When the clock strikes 4:00 in the afternoon, each household should start cleaning and sanitizing his/her respective surroundings, free from all possible mosquito breeding opportunities. It is at this time (4:00) that mosquitoes are at its peak in biting. Though mosquitoes bite all day long, it is as its peak in "blood feeding" 2 hours after sunrise and 2 hours before sunset.
DOH reported during the "Orientation on Dengue for Community leaders and non-health workers" conducted on April 23 at Garden Orchid Hotel, that it has recorded some 1, 917 cases of dengue region wide, with 14 deaths, which is two times higher than that of 2006 cases.
Of the 1, 917 dengue cases region wide, Zamboanga city recorded some 1,250 cases; Zamboanga del Norte with 387; Zamboanga del Sur with 119; Zamboanga Sibugay with 117 and Isabela City with 50 Dengue cases.
DOH further reported, that as of Jan. 2008 to April 16, 2008, some 739 cases were already noted region wide, which is 206 percent higher compared to same period last year with Zamboanga City ranking first at 638 Dengue cases recorded.
DOH noted that Zamboanga City recorded 4 major peaks of Dengue cases in 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2007.
Dr. Antonio Bautista, one of the speakers during the orientation talked in detail the "dynamics of Dengue transmission,
He said not all mosquitos bite. Only female mosquito bites and only female aedies aegyptil mosquito can transmit the Dengue virus.
Average life span of an adult mosquito is 28 to 30 days. Each female mosquito can lay 60 to 100 eggs a day.
Mosquito starts as an egg for 2 days then hatches to larva (kiti-kiti) for 6-7 days after which becomes a pupa for one day then hatches into an adult mosquito.
A female mosquito starts to bite 3 days after it has become an adult mosquito. Probability is, a female mosquito can bite 10 times or 10 persons basing from its 30 days average life span.
If a female mosquito bites a person infected with the dengue virus, the mosquito becomes infected but not yet infective. Which means if the mosquito gets infected today, it cannot yet transmit the dengue virus the following day.
The virus needs to pass thru an 8-day incubation period, which happens within the mosquito. After 8 days the virus is now replicated and goes to the salivary glands of the mosquito, which translates that it can now transmit the dengue virus thru its saliva the next biting period.
Dr. Bautista emphasized the importance of proper identification, handling, cleaning or disposal of any possible breeding areas of mosquitoes so as to avoid mosquito population growth. "Anything which will increase the mosquito population will improve the interplay" he said.

Yes. And Zamboanga being one of only two international gateways of Mindanao, it should have a world class airport similar to, or even better than, Davao's.

I don't think Zamboanga is merely a secondary city. It is the premiere city in Western Mindanao. And for that a world class airport facility is long overdue.

I am just being fair to all the cities in Mindanao, primary or secondary or barrio man, kasi alam na alam ko na in one way or another, me contribution ang lahat sa ikakaunlad ng buong Mindanao at ng buong bansa.
Por favor din po senyor, basahin mo muna at intindehin bawat linya and don't you ever put words into my mouth again.
mbell_791983 April 25th, 2008, 06:04 AM For 25 years since its declaration as a highly urbanized city in 1983, Zamboanga City remains progressive as ever, despite the negative comments on the peace and order and political situation. Zamboanga City has it all:
* the 6th most populous city in the country after Quezon City, Davao, Manila, Caloocan and Cebu.
* the 3rd largest city in the Philippines in terms of land area after Davao City and Puerto Princesa
* the busiest city and center of commerce and industry in Zamaboanga Peninsula despite Pagadian's role as new center for regional government
* the oldest established city in Mindanao in 1635 when Jesuit missionaries built Fort Pilar
* the Sardines Capital of the Philippines
* Asia's Latin City (because of Spanish traditions influenced in this city, including Chavacano)- this made Zamboanga City the flagship city for DOT-IX
* one of the only cities in the Philippines not associated with provincial jurisdictions (that's why we have 2 representatives for Zamboanga)
Zamboanga City is not secondary, but a 1st class, highly urbanized city. I hope that east coast will soon be developed.
By the way, i really want to see latest pics on Zamboanga, including Plaza Fair, malls, and tourist spots and developments.

District I Congresswoman Beng Climaco has allocated P20 million for the improvement of the R.T. Lim boulevard, one of the city’s precious tourist sites.
The project, now on the planning stage, would extend the path walk by more or less 7 meters in width and 500 meters in length from the area fronting the Evangelical School to the area fronting the City Council building.
Cong. Climaco said the implementation of the project would be a joint effort of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), District Engineer’s Office and the city government of Zamboanga.
She said the Cawa-cawa Boulevard, one of the existing treasures of the city, is an icon that represents Zamboanga in post cards, brochures and other promotional materials being distributed not only locally but even abroad.
According to Climaco, the development would include the establishment of a seawall to protect the facility from strong waves and other water movements.
The P20 million allocation forms part of the over P80 million that the congresswoman has been able to infuse for projects—infrastructure and social projects—for District I in a period of only 8 months.
As one of the city’s prime tourist attractions, the Roseller T. Lim boulevard should be developed and improved to lure more tourists and visitors—both local and international, Cong. Climaco stressed.
Meanwhile, Mayor Celso Lobregat recently presided over a meeting to discuss about the proposal.
City Engineer Luis Despalo said the city’s contribution would include the face lifting of the path walk which will be coated with concrete pavers and several other enhancements. Comfort room facilities including a parking area and security details will be provided in the tourist spot.
He said the proposed project is intended to make the R.T. Lim boulevard truly a hub for promenaders. (Ryan Sta. Teresa)

But this is the time nowadays somehow that Zamboanga City should regain her prestige too as being the most progressive/premier city in this island many decades ago. :colgate:

That's true. Zamboanga, despite its being highly urbanized, is far from those of Cebu, Bacolod, Davao, Iloilo. The tricycles are counterparts of taxis from Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, etc. And it's true that most of the roads are two-laned. The only four-laned road is the Nuñez Extension, in which you can ride smoothly but only for a short time. That's why Zamboanga got heavy traffic most of the time, especially big events.
The government, nationally or locally, must do something to ease the city's troublesome situation and Zamboanga's east coast should also be developed. Is Zamboanga far from over economically?

astroboy1234 April 26th, 2008, 12:05 PM Gerky: Zambo’s beauty not just in postcards
Friday, April 25. 2008
Councilor Gerky Valesco yesterday said the scenic views of the city in the postcards does not help people to appreciate and experience the real beauty of Zamboanga.
Valesco, who persuaded the ‘reconquering’ of Santa Cruz island with Sunday’s widely successful “Fiesta na Isla de Santa Cruz” said Zamboanga City is blessed with numerous natural attractions for the residents to enjoy and immerse with.
Valesco said it is ironic that there are even more Zamboangueños who have experienced Dakak and Boracay and only a handful have actually made it to Santa Cruz island.
“We should appreciate the beauty of Zamboanga City not by staring at the postcards. We should find time to really visit and commune with these natural wonders such as Abong-Abong, La Paz, Bolong, and others,” Valesco said.
Valesco said there are attractions in the city that may appear “so near, yet so far” thing. “Yes, we need the facilities, the amenities, but we should not wait for the day of perfection to come. We should institute and create the adventure,” he added.
Valesco said the present day Zamboangueños are fortunate because under the administration of Mayor Celso Lobregat, tourism development and promotion is consistently among the priorities of the administration.
He also praised Cong. Erbie Fabian for the continuous program on sports tourism
Valesco, chairman on the committee on tourism, culture and arts are foreign relations said, aside from having a city endowed with great landmarks and natural marvels, the city is also fortunate to have people who compliment the settings like Mayor Lobregat, DOT Director Ric San Juan, TAZ President Vicente Lim, Sarita Hernandez, the media and many other people who are enthusiastic about local tourism.

Zamboanga indeed is beautiful and lovely. I guess what the city lacks also is discipline. People just throw garbage anywhere they want. sasakay ka ng jeep at may nakita kang umiinum ng softdrinks sa plastic tapos itatapon ang plastic sa labas ng jeep. I hate those people doing that. They can not even keep the garbage for themselves. For the case of our beautiful RT Lim Blvd. dapat dagdagan ang trashcans diyan para hindi itatapon ang basura sa dagat and people who ate there they should also clean up the place where they ate. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

City to tear down barter trade bldg
Demolition crew from the city government is set to tear down the 288-stall Zambagora building at the back of City Hall on Wednesday, April 30 ending 10 years of negotiations and Court battles.
This, based on a Supreme Court decision affirming with finality all Regional Trial Court orders favoring the city government in its planned occupation of the property.
City Administrator Elias Enriquez said the stall owners occupying the ZAMBAGORA or Zamboanga Barter Goods Retailers Association, Inc. building along the port area have been properly informed of the demolition schedule as early as April 14.
He said most of the stall owners have expressed willingness to voluntarily tear down their stalls but would require government assistance in terms of equipment for the demolition as well as for the transport of their valuables to their residences.
In a decision promulgated on July 7, 2004 and penned by Associate Justice Romeo J. Callejero Sr., the Supreme Court dismissed the petition for certiorari seeking to annul and set aside the order of the Regional Trial Court Branch 14 in Civil Case 5093 denying the application for the issuance of a temporary restraining order and or writ of preliminary injunction of the petitioner ZAMBAGORA and its order denying the motion for reconsideration thereon.
“The petition is hereby dismissed. The assailed Orders are affirmed in all respects”, the decision said.
The legal battle on the ZAMBAGORA building started way back in 1998 when the city government, then under the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat decided to construct the city fire station on the subject property and requested the stall owners to vacate the same.
For a while the city’s decision was shelved due to a City Council resolution providing extension to the petitioner to look for a new site for its building. However, despite the extension, the petitioner failed to vacate the property prompting the then Mrs. Lobregat on October 18, 2000 to give a last extension until October 31, 2000 citing the urgency of the construction of the fire station.
On Oct. 25, 2000, the Zambagora through legal counsel Atty. Abdulmoin Pakam filed its complaint with the RTC against the city for injunction with prayer for issuance of preliminary injunction and or TRO to enjoin the city from evicting the stall owners from the property. The lower court denied the petition on grounds that the petitioner failed to establish a clear and unmistakable right for injunctive relief.
A motion for reconsideration was filed but the lower court denied the same but the same court recommended to the city to allow the petitioner’s stay in the subject property until Dec. 31, 2000. However, on Nov. 6, 2000, the ZAMBAGORA filed the petition for certiorari contending that the lower court “gravely abused its discretion when it outrightly denied the petitioner’s application for a TRO” and that the same court “erred in not considering the petitioner’s documentary evidence in support of its application for TRO during the summary hearing conducted for the purpose”.
After a thorough study, the High Court dismissed the petition citing three grounds: first, the petitioner blatantly disregarded the hierarchy of courts; second, even if the court ignored the petitioner’s procedural faux pax and delve into the merits of its petition, still the court finds no grave abuse of discretion on the part of the RTC in denying the petitioner’s application for a TRO and or writ of preliminary injunction. And that third, the petitioner is estopped from assailing the RTC’s Orders since the partie4s had already agreed before such court to defer eviction of the stall owners from the property until Dec. 31, 2000 in the spirit of the Christmas season.
In issuing the notice to demolish, the city also reminded the stall owners of a letter sent by the Zambagora stall owners through legal counsel Pakam to the late Mayor Lobregat on April 26, 2000 stating that the group “would be ready to demolish its structures and vacate the premises as soon as the Supreme Court has finally spoken”.
Enriquez said the Supreme Court decision has been released, thus, the scheduled demolition on Wednesday, April 30.

Yap totoo yan. What makes this city congested is the lack of discipline of the drivers as well. :ohno::ohno::ohno:

Celso thanks ICRC for burns training
Mayor Celso Lobregat has highly praised the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for facilitating the conduct of a burns management seminar for local physicians and individuals stressing that it will help enhance knowledge and skills on burn care and treatment.
In a message during the opening ceremony of the three-day Burns Management Seminar last night, Lobregat cited the activity as a forum for the presentation of studies and researches related to the treatment of burn victims and their injuries.
The seminar slated for April 28-30 will include topics on burn Epidemiology, Natural history of the Burn Wound, Burn Prevention, Inhalation and Blast Injury, Burn dressings, Burns of the Hands and Face, Excision and Grating of a major burn and Old Burns and Scar Management among others.
“All these topics are very vital, making this forum truly a golden opportunity for doctors and individuals interested in burns to broaden their knowledge and skills pertaining to the foregoing activities”, the mayor said.
The three-day seminar is the second round of training for physicians and is facilitated by the ICRC, an independent and neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and armed violence, based in Zamboanga City under Andreas Notter.
Lobregat expressed gratitude to the ICRC for the conduct of humanitarian missions in the city as well. “The ICRC never falters in its determination as it continues to find avenues to make a difference to people affected by all forms of violence”.
The city, being the medical center in Western Mindanao, is constantly improving in terms of medical facilities. Last year, Lobregat inaugurated a burn unit at the Zamboanga City Medical Center donated by a non-government organization operating in the city.
He said the ICRC training would help complement the existing burn unit and other similar facilities that have been and will be established in the city.
The opening program held at the Lantak Hotel last night was attended by Juan Fuertes, head of sub-delegation based in ICRC Davao and PNRC local administrator Vic Liozo Jr. It was followed by a welcome dinner.
The lecturers during the 3-day seminar will include Fuertes, Dr. Massey Beveridge, Dr. Michelle Aportadera and Andreas Notter who is head of ICRC office in Zamboanga.
Dr. Romeo Ong, Director of the Zamboanga City Medical Center will be the guest during the closing ceremonies on Wednesday while DR. Robert Paterson, Medical delegate from ICFRC Manila will give the closing remarks.

GearX April 30th, 2008, 02:50 AM Zamboanga ecozone sets aside P6M for nature park (http://www.bworldonline.com/BW043008/content.php?id=057)
ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority has earmarked P6 million this year to develop a nature park in the 15,000-hectare agro-industrial complex.
"The project is part of the vision to expand the Zamboanga economic zone not only for industrial use but also [as] a place for tourism and agro-tourism," said Georgina P. Yu, administrator of the ecozone.
Currently, the nature park site has lighting facilities, a staff house that can accommodate 50 persons, three swimming pools, two pavilions, a multipurpose center, 10 cottages, a boating area, six boat houses and other recreational facilities, a statement quoted Ms. Yu as saying.
The free port zone is in the final stage of developing its retirement complex, dubbed "Mare y Monte" (sea and mountain), which is scheduled for a soft launch this August, officials said.
The retirement complex, which has an initial outlay of more than P10 million, will be expanded later to include casinos, a golf course and a theme park.
Ms. Yu said her office has coordinated with the Philippine Retirement Authority, the Department of Tourism, and various groups that could help in achieving the project’s objectives. The retirement complex will eventually be equipped with a hospital and other medical tourism facilities, commercial centers and duty-free shops.
Luis Ramon V. Rodriguez, in-house doctor of the economic zone, said they are initially targeting 150 retirees coming from South Korea, Japan and China. Mr. Rodriguez said 10 residential houses have been built in the economic zone for retirees. "Aside from being a retirement home, the complex will eventually offer cosmetic and aesthetic surgeries," he said in a separate interview.
The Zamboanga ecozone has a three-kilometer stretch of seafront ideal for beach resorts and hotels. The 300-hectare property overlooks the sea in the south, with a view of the mountains in the background.
Members of the Tourism Association of Zamboanga said that the free port has been identified as agro-tourism site to be promoted by the Department of Tourism as well as by tour operators.
"The free port has the advantage of being an agri-tourism and industrial-tourism site. Tourists, for example can visit several organic farms here," said Vicente A. Lim, president of the Insular Travel and Tours, who is also a member of the organization.
Agribusiness entrepreneurs from Cagayan de Oro have also inquired about sites for orchards and vegetable gardens, said eco-zone information officer Marlon B. Simbajon.
Tourism regional director Ricardo A. San Juan said agro-tourism, in general, is the practice of attracting travelers or visitors to an area used primarily for agricultural purposes. "Agri-tourism can be viewed much like eco-tourism, specifically focused on education purposes," he said. — Darwin T. Wee
astroboy1234 April 30th, 2008, 05:12 AM Zambo City gov't sets food summit
Zamboanga City (30 April) -- The city government is now laying the groundwork for the convening of a "Food Summit" next month with the ultimate goal of coming up with a comprehensive plan to ensure food sufficiency amidst the threat on global warming.
Mayor Celso Lobregat Monday afternoon met with concerned agencies to discuss about rice production measures, climate change and food summit and other issues affecting the residents as an offshoot of global warming.
"We want to get everybody involved. We will discuss climate change and more importantly what each and every one of us as citizens - individually and collectively can do to delay the impact of global warming and what can be done by each and every individual to address the food security aspect", the mayor emphasized.
During the meeting, Lobregat the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), the City Environment and Natural Resources Officer (OCENR), City Human Resource Management Office (CHRMO), City Legal Office, City Agriculturist Office and the City Administrator's Office to plan the mechanics for the proposed food summit.
Lobregat cited the need to involve the academe, the civil defense, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Science and Technology-PAG-ASA, National Food Authority and the Department of Agriculture among to ensure a ripple effect of the things to be discussed during the summit.
According to Lobregat, Zamboanga is a net importer of rice and that it produces 30 percent of the rice demand. "We have to look at measures to either increase the production or decrease wastage on the demand side".
Measures should also be done to delay the impact of global warming. Zamboanga City, he said, has experienced two incidences of storm surge last year that brought devastating effects to the city and its residents due to climate change.
The effects of the series of events that happen worldwide due to climate change put a lot of pressure on food supply, the mayor stressed. "Many countries are experiencing food shortage and there are areas where crops are destroyed".
He stressed that while the problem is a worldwide concern, measures to resolve the same should start from the individual community and each and every citizen.
The proposed food summit is tentatively set for May 20. The mayor hoped that the participants to the forum will re-echo the things that will be learned to their individual sectors.

ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office is opening an employment center where jobseekers can search for job vacancies at the same time employers could find qualified personnel they need in their respective firms.
DOLE regional information officer Josephine Crudo said the center known as Greater Modular Access (GMA) job center will be opened to the public May 1 in time for the Labor Day Celebration.
The GMA job center will be located at the Southway Mall in downtown. It is a joint project of the Dole and the shopping mall.
DOLE will build the center while the mall will provide the facilities and resources to run the GMA job center.
Crudo said the GMA job center is an information portal designed by DOLE to provide information on employment and livelihood opportunities to the public for free.
Through the GMA job center, said Crudo, the jobseekers could search for job vacancies, register, and post their skills to job matching and check skills posted.
She said employers could also find a list of jobseekers with different skills that fit the workforce they need in their respective companies.

Is the planned government project a commercial-cum-carpark building? Is it mall-like?
Here in Manila, everytime I had a train ride, there is a government-owned commercial complex with its name Pasay City Mall and Public Market. It's just only the size of Mindpro's but designed for the masa.

By Julie Alipala
Mindanao Bureau
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Eight persons, including four minors, were injured when a liquefied petroleum gas tank leaked and triggered a fire here around 1 p.m. Thursday, police said Friday.
Superintendent Jonathan Perez, OIC police chief, said all the victims suffered second degree burns.
Perez said the incident started when Fe Lomasa, whose family owns a junk shop in the area, was about to cook inside their house in sitio (sub-village) Bagong Dalan in Barangay (village) Talon-talon here.
He said the LPG tank had a leak and it immediately caught fire and razed the house.
Perez said they were still investigating the incident.

Si! afavor este para con nosotros por causa nosotros se siempre hay provecha. (this is in favor for us because we are still the one who will benefit from it).. you could just imagine the emperial manila always dominates in every aspect in philippines activities, financial, progress and etc.. and where are these money all came from? which region(luzon, visayas, mindanao) contribute the most for needs of the filipino people? isnt it from mindanao? but agen it depends on how are they going to pass this laws as the new constitution of the philippines...
this has many advantages but surely there's always a dissadvantage.. but the point here, lets move for a self govern or autonomous...
bdw, this is the report that ive read in the news paper THE PHILIPPINE STAR dated friday april 25, 2008.
the 11 states comprising the proposed federation are:
Luzon:
states of the ff: northern luzon, central luzon, southern tagalog, bicol, minparom.
Visayas:
-state of eastern visayas
-state of central visayas
-state of western visayas
Mindanao:
-state of northern mindanao
-State of southern mindanao
_state of bangsamoro
thus, metro manils shall constituted as the federal administrative region.
lastly, why not also we CREOLE PEOPLE (descendant and influences from native american, european and philippine austronesian languages and people family respectively) shall also appeal to the philippines republic to propose additional State and shall be called "STATE OF LATIN ZAMBOANGA" we shall also stand at this...Support this proposal to create a LATIN STATE if incase the proposal for a federal form of government will really push thru...or take into majority-people's concern.
this is just a draft and who knows in the future everything will put into reality.. a dream that most likely people want to, for a better statehood.
STATE OF LATIN ZAMBOANGA, Federal State of the Philippines.
shall comprised of the ff:
1. City of Zamboanga, shall be the capital of the state;
2. Province of Zamboanga Hermosa, a land area shall be created out of the present city of zamboanga; and shall composed with the following Municipalities or cities of Labuan, Patalon, Ayala, Isabela and Lamitan;
3. Province of Zamboanga Chavacano, a land area shall be created out of present city of zamboanga; and shall composed of the following municipalities or cities of Vitali, Curuan, Sangali, Manicahan and Talugsangay and the island-barangay within its jurisdiction.
the name of those proposed all got from our famous Zamboanga Hymn "Zamboanga Hermosa" and our famous folk song "Zamboanga Chavacano"
so, to all CREOLE PEOPLE in the present Republic of the Philippines, lets support for a "ESTADO DE ZAMBOANGA LATINO"
Acer_Cyle May 2nd, 2008, 01:11 PM ^^wow daw mall man ele el design, hehehehehe:lol:
i personally appreciate that proposed bldg. but the desing is so very conventional... why not modern architecture should be! and besides just remember, "Modern Architecture need not to be Western" by: Arch't. Kenzo Tange, the most famous architect of japan modernism.
Acer_Cyle May 2nd, 2008, 01:24 PM Yes. And Zamboanga being one of only two international gateways of Mindanao, it should have a world class airport similar to, or even better than, Davao's.
I don't think Zamboanga is merely a secondary city. It is the premiere city in Western Mindanao. And for that a world class airport facility is long overdue.
Bakit naman nya hate ang Zamboanga? Let's just hope that succeeding administrations will realize the importance of building a world class airport in Zamboanga. Dapat dyan yung inuuna.
why? who will support the place if he/she lose in that place with a very few votes... 10% to 20%??

I'm really sorry but Zamboanga cannot be fit as province. Can't you see the land area of Davao City? It's bigger than our size but still remains a city. It's enough that Zamboanga has 2 legislative districts, and when Zamboanga remains a city, it should be divided into several area districts, not municipalities.
What I see in Zamboanga is having the following districts (as I suggest):
1. Central District- comprises of the City Proper
2. Santa Maria- comprises of Santa Maria, Tumaga, Pasonanca, San Roque, Abong-abong and Cabatangan
3. Baliwasan District- comprises of San Jose, Baliwasan, Campo Islam, Calarian, etc.
4. Ayala District- from Sinunuc to La Paz boundary
5. Labuan District- from San Ramon to Limpapa
6. Tetuan District- Tetuan, Talon-talon, Tugbungan, Arena Blanco, Mampang, Guiwan
7. Putik District- Putik, Divisoria, Boalan, etc.
8. Mercedes District- Pasobolong, Mercedes, Culianan, etc.
9. Manicahan District- Manicahan, Lamisahan, etc.
10. Sangali District- Sangali, Bolong, Bungiao, etc.
11. Curuan District- Curuan, Cacao, etc.
12. Vitali District- Vitali, Licomo, etc.
13. Taluksangay District- Taluksangay and Sacol Island barangays.
Remember: If Zamboanga turns down into a province, there will be economic and progress damage.
By the way, if Federalism is approved, where will Zamboanga be belonged? will it be part of Northern Mindanao or Bangsamoro? If this beloved city belongs to Bangsamoro, all of us will disagree greatly since we voted NO (as in the BIGGEST NO! in history of the city) to the inclusion of ARMM.

But this is uniquely wide and big building. Maybe it will be among the list of malls owned by government like Olongapo City Mall, or Pasay City Mall.

Acer_Cyle May 5th, 2008, 02:48 PM I'm really sorry but Zamboanga cannot be fit as province.
Puede! por que.... si quiere... por que tu a habla muchas disadvantage...
creating a STATE of our own would be a dissadvantage for the the city and the provinces to be created? i dont think so... have seen Singapore? a Country but its Land Area is smaller than of davao... but its a Country, comprises of a provinces too. within a provinces, comprises of several cities or municipalities.
now, in the present Republic its a BIG no to divide Zamboanga City into several Provinces... but if you think of Fedderalism.. its a Big YES... specially for these Creole People to govern their State.
Creoel People, these are people who speaks the creole langauge.
Zamboanga City still big in land area, it is even bigger than the province of Basilan, Province of Camiguin...and almost of the same area of the Province of Sibugay. now, ist it no o yes?
remember we're talking about STATE...
Article 12. of the new federal act. STATE OF LATIN ZAMBOANGA, Federal States of the Philippines
section 1. the state of latin zamboanga shall comprises of the ff:
A. City of Zamboanga, as the center for governance of the State with its city jurisdiction from bgry upper calarain to brgy. mercedes, to the north including the bgry. pasonanca and upper pasonanca and islands of great and small sta.cruz;
B. Province of Zamboanga Hermosa, a province shall be created out of the total land area of Z.C. and shall comprises of Cities or Municipalities of: Labuan, Patalon, ayala, Isabela(of basilan) and Lamitan(of basilan)
C. Province of Zamboanga Chavacano, a province shall be created out of the total land area of Z.C. and shall comprises the Cities or Municipalities of: Vitali, Curuan, Sangali, Manicahan and Talugsangay with its adjacent island-barangay.
section 2. state shall govern by her own, may create or implement state laws provided it is not contradicting the federal constitution of the philippines;
section 3. a state cannot be interfere by .......etc...
hence, this is not only include z.c., lamitan and isabela... other present municipalities may be part of this State...
note:
name of these provinces got from our Zamboanga Hymn entitled "Zamboanga Hermosa" and from our Zamboanga's Famous Folksong entitled "Zamboanga Chavacano"
no imposible si nosotros todos quiere!
againt, we're talking about STATE under a Federal Form of government NOT under a Republic forrm of government. Highest Level este...PAZ!
laslty, since this is a thread to promote Zammboanga City.. then,we'll promote it in a futuristic way too.. gracias a todos ustedes!PAZ a todos:banana:

astroboy1234 May 6th, 2008, 03:25 AM Thousands protest against CPP-NPA-NDF on Labor Day
Zamboanga City (5 May) -- Some 2000 people converged in a Pagadian plaza in front of the city's center of political governance to demonstrate against the CPP-NPA-NDF deceptions and exploitation of laborers as the entire country celebrates Labor Day on May 1.
In an unexpected twist of fate, over a thousand rallyists motorcade some 45 kilometer stretch from the municipality of Mahayag, around the town of Molave to Tukuran and Labangan, and all the way to the rally site in Plaza Luz, Pagadian City to cry out their disgust against what they term as "manipulative propaganda" of militant groups linked to the communist terrorist movement.
Hundreds more joined them at the plaza where a program was held to let the people express their outrage towards the CPP-NPA-NDF for using the labor sector to advance their leftist ideology.
Most of the demonstrators were members of the National Alliance for Democracy (NAD) and the newly-organized Kapayapaan ay Wastong Adhikain sa Lipunan (KAWAL) coming from different municipalities like Tambulig, Mahayag, Molave, Dumingag, Tukuran, Ozamis City, Ramon Magsaysay, Oroquieta City and provinces of Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental. Also, residents from the different barangays in Pagadian City also joined in the rally that started shortly before noon.
This was the 7th rally spearheaded by NAD, and now with KAWAL, to condemn atrocities committed by the communist terrorist movement that have "besieged development" and progress of some municipalities in the province. The provincial government led by Gov. Aurora Cerilles together with other local government units here were one in their support for the rally which also aims to raise public awareness on the ulterior motives of leftist groups which, most often brand themselves as people's organizations.
Rally organizer and NAD National Secretary General Roel B Dago-oc said that the success of the long motorcade and rally in the city plaza only demonstrate the aversion and the growing disgust of the people towards the CPP-NPA-NDF. "The people are sick and tired of the deception of communist terrorist and their legal fronts. This legal fronts use deception to fool our labor sector and make the laborers believe that this (communist) group is fighting for the labor's cause when in fact all they want to advance are their own agenda.
During the rally, former members of legal fronts and NPA rebel returnees as well as other resource speakers shared their testimonies and revelations as to their experience with the communist movement before thousands of placard-bearing crowd.
Former NPA squad leader Jomar Mig Catas of FC Sendong and Kara which operates in the province revealed the gruesome abuses perpetrated by NPA rebels in the name of their leaders who are lavishing in abroad with their plunders while rebel members suffer in the mountains.
He also disclosed that leftist organizations also served as their legal fronts in urban areas to recruit members and organized mass support against the government.
On the other hand, former student activist leader John Rivera, for his part, said that if the public continues to be blind against the propaganda and deception of legal fronts, the country will continue to suffer from poverty and violence since it is the only way the communist terrorist deceptive strategy can work.
On the other hand, to keep the rally peaceful and in order, military troops from 1st Infantry Division and city policemen provided security for the activity.
Furthermore, Mr Dago-oc thanked the Group Commander of 4th Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service, AFP Major Gamal S Hayudini PAF for the support rendered to the organization for its coordination with the necessary military units for the security and for ensuring the orderly and smooth flow of the motorcade and rally.
Major Hayudini acknowledged the effort exerted by NAD officials and said that "It has always been our pleasure to serve and support the people who need our services since the military exists to protect the people". The official added that all military efforts in the area are in support to the WESMINCOMs mission under the leadership of LtGen Nelson N. Allaga AFP.

Diyan tayo magkasundo. It reminds us of how the local opposition (that is from Agan-Aranez side) wants to create a province out of the present Zamboanga City. Why not create a metropolis? But exactly districting is very logical and practical since we have 98 barangays. Those who want to divide Zamboanga into a province are very illogical.
Wait! Are the plans of having regional offices be transferred to Pagadian City and the conversion of La Bella into a province the prelude of the forced inclusion of ARMM even though we don't want to belong to ARMM? It wiill lead us to confusion and damage of unique diversity.

CREATING A STATE MEANS, CHANGING THE GOVERNMENT. This means that Charter Change will be approved!

Sorry, but I am not sure if I can remember that.
I made an estimation of the division as far as I can remember. See below:

* The gray shaded part is northern Mindanao, the other is southern Mindanao, ARMM will be Bangsa Moro
If the episode of "The Explainer by Manolo Quezon" at ANC shown a while ago the episode about a "federal republic in the Philippines" will be posted at their website. I'll try to correct it and put the actual Division made by Pimental.
His proposal is only a draft, therefore there is a possibility for further amendments.

Personally, and used the map I have shown previously as a basis. I think it is geographically viable that Zamboanga Peninsula will be included in Northern Mindanao.
Kung hahatiin mo ang Mindanao. Walang Land connection ang Major part ng Southern Mindanao pati ang Zamboanga Peninsula even Zamboanga City. This will add a problem "Zamboanga Peninsula will be isolated from the Majority of Southern Mindanao".
I think it is possible that we can have a Federal form of government because it is already backed up by 16 senators.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/nation/view/20080428-133243/16-senators-now-back-Pimentels-shift-to-federalism
Every state may 6 senators. And 9 senators represented by the OFW.

Ah ok... so northern mindanao will compose Regions 9, 10 & Caraga while Southern mindanao will be the Davao region only. Thanks bro... :)

beauty of an island does not rely on HOTELS, BARS, BEACH SPORTS,and etc. sta. cruz island is not as big as boracay island or other famous island-beaches. nevertheless, it would be much better if an ECO-FRIENDLY RESORT was created instead, which simply would not deprive the islands "VIRGINITY".
remember, THE MORE AMENITIES THAT EXISTS ON AN ISLAND THE MORE TRASHES IT MAKES!
look at boracay. there are so many hotels, resorts, bars, restaurants and etc. and look at where they throw their trash, dba sa boracay rin? haha.

If it's in case, Zamboanga Peninsula belongs to the Northern Mindanao State.
Here's a draft of possible Mindanao "states" and advantages:
-Northern Mindanao shall be composed of Regions 9 (including IsabelaCity in Basilan), 10 and 13 with Cagayan de Oro as its capital.
-Southern Mindanao shall be composed of Regions 11 and 12 with Davao as its capital.
-Bangsamoro shall be composed of provinces under the ARMM, with Marawi (not Cotabato City) as its capital
-The cities of Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Iligan, Davao, and General Santos (all highly-urbanized cities) shall be served as centers of trade, finance, commerce and economy.
-Each state will be governed by a so-called state governor. A state governor is the head of the Philippine state and should be different from provincial governor. Like in the case of USA, counties (counterpart of provinces) made up into 1 state.

PAL Express to fly 22 routes initially
CATICLAN, Malay, Aklan – PAL Express, the new, low-fares brand of Philippine Airlines, will serve 22 inter-island routes at the outset, including some provincial points currently without air service or underserved by other players, PAL president Jaime J. Bautista announced today.
“With PAL Express, Philippine Airlines is reassuming its traditional mandate of providing quality, affordable air service to outlying communities. Such air link has historically acted as a spur for the development of these areas.” said Bautista.
“PAL Express also allows PAL to offer a low-fare yet high-value alternative in many trunkline and tourist routes such as here in Caticlan,” he added during arrival ceremonies of the inaugural PAL Express flight from Manila.
Other PAL executives onboard the maiden flight were deputy chief executive officer Henry So Uy and assistant vice president for sales Antonio Herrera.
On hand to welcome the PAL delegation were Aklan vice-governor Gabrielle Calizo; members of the travel trade; and representatives from the media.
Caticlan, gateway to the resort island of Boracay, is the first destination of PAL Express, which will operate 12 flights daily from Manila starting today. Brand-new, 50-seater Bombardier Q300 turbo-propeller aircraft are deployed on the high-traffic route.
PAL Express will dramatically expand its network over the next two months, with service scheduled to be launched on 22 routes.
Thirteen of those new routes emanate from PAL Express’ main hub of Cebu, where operations start May 19 with services to five points – Caticlan, Bacolod, Tacloban, Butuan and General Santos.
On the same day, a daily flight between Manila and Busuanga in northern Palawan will also commence.
On May 26, three more services will operate out of Cebu: Davao, with thrice-daily flights; Iloilo, twice daily; and Puerto Princesa, a single flight everyday.
On June 23, four new destinations will be served from Cebu – Dipolog, Ozamiz, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga, with the last service proceeding onward to Davao and back – rounding out the Cebu hub network for now.
On the other hand, PAL Express’ other hub in Manila will add several new routes in July: Surigao, Legazpi, Virac and Cauayan (Isabela) on July 21, and San Jose (Occidental Mindoro), Calbayog and San Fernando (La Union) on July 26.
With PAL Express’ entry, Surigao, Cauayan and San Fernando, which have gone without air service for many years now, will once more enjoy a regular air link to Manila – a service PAL first provided these small cities in the 1980s.
Likewise, travelers to Virac, San Jose, Ozamiz and Calbayog will benefit from PAL Express’ upgraded service and competitive fares. Currently, these points are underserved by existing carriers.

The Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority led by its chair Georgina Yu yesterday formally donated a 60-hectare lot to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines under its national president Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay in a simple ceremony held at the Ecozone Conference Room in San Ramon, this city.

BSP Zamboanga City Council Chairman Mannix Dalipe who witnessed the signing, disclosed that the 60-hectare land located in the highlands of the Ecozone would be the next site of the 2nd Philippine National Boarder Jamboree which will be attended by thousands of boy scouts from all over the country.
Dalipe expressed gratitude to the BSP national board for choosing Zamboanga City to host the said jamboree next year in time for the 50th year anniversary celebration of the scouting movement.
Prior to the MOA signing, Binay inducted the new BSP ZC Council set of officers led by Dalipe at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall.
Aside from Dalipe, the other officers inducted were 1st Vice Chairman Emilio Aquino, 2nd Vice Chairman Victor Liozo Jr., Treasurer Reynaldo Misanes, Asst. Treasurer Eulogio Ho Jr., Auditor Pedro Melchor Natividad, Council Scout Commissioner Dolores Alcantara, Secretary Arthur Griño, Scout Representatives Jan Roy Misanes.
The Executive Board members are Councilor Luis Biel III, Jose Rizalino Ortega, Rodelino Guevara, Dr. Mario Ariola, Josephine Pareja, Bahari Camlian, Marlon Simbajon, Yahiya Barahim, Arturo Cabidog Jr., Gerald Cris Pioquinto, Omar Sahi, Carmen Saculingan, Teresita Bandong, Melanie Minez, Alvin Collado and Antonio Ferrer.
At the same time, Binay tackled other issues and concerns with regards to the BSP under his administration, the new serial numbers which will be placed under each scout’s name cloth, the Asia Pacific Jamboree to be held next year, the new BSP website and the construction of a six storey hostel and others. This is a milestone for Zamboanga City considering soon to be the largest BSP camp in the country. I hope more Zambo youth will be joining the scouting movement. Scouting is fun!!

BOB-bXu May 7th, 2008, 12:37 PM If it's in case, Zamboanga Peninsula belongs to the Northern Mindanao State.
Like in the case of USA, counties (counterpart of provinces) made up into 1 state.
in the trend of decongestion and dispersal of development...if that Federal System would be realized....Butuan has a ready and developed hundred hectare lot capable of hosting the seat of the Federal Government :)

Not really. Davao only aims to be a city where economic development and environmental awareness is in a healthy balance. No need to aim for something which has no probability of materializing. :)

I wanted to show this because I want to show to my fellow Zamboangeno that the culture of the Tausugs are beautiful. And as far as Zamboanga is concerned, Tausugs are already part of the community in Zamboanga. Thank You!

Alingatong May 9th, 2008, 01:26 AM ^^Dapat lang na ganyan ang mangyayari. Ang Davao metro yan just like metro Manila and Cebu. Yan ang premier city ng Mindanao pero look at Manila and Cebu, di ba ang lalayo na ng nararating kung high-rises ang basehan? But Davao's skyline ay parang walang pinagbabago. Kung meron man, di halata. :) Ewan ko lang kung sinong mamamatay sa inggit pagdating ng panahon.

zoroethgenre_003 May 9th, 2008, 06:55 PM PAASCU reaffirms ADZU as high standard school
Ateneo de Zamboanga University is celebrating the granting of a high level accreditation of its academic programs by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) on Monday, May 5, 2008.
PAASCU is a private organization which accredits academic programs based on commonly accepted standards of quality education.
The following ADZU programs have been given Level III re-accreditation: Arts and Sciences, Education, Business, Accountancy, and Nursing. A level three accreditation is the highest generally given by PAASCU and is enjoyed only by the most prestigious schools in the country. It signifies that the program has been found to adhere to high standards of education and will be re-evaluated only after five years.
University president Fr. Antonio F. Moreno, SJ, in his memo to the Ateneo community said that this re-accreditation “is an indication that, other than ourselves, a reputable body of creditors believe that ADZU offers quality and gold standard education.”
Fr. Moreno in the memo commended the efforts of the entire school and of Dr. Rebecca V. Fernandez, head of the school’s PAASCU executive committee.
The Computer Science program will undergo a consultancy visit within the year before a formal PAASCU visit can be scheduled. It is the first time the program will be evaluated by PAASCU.
PAASCU was created, among other goals, as a means of encouraging schools to continuously elevate the quality of their service and to guide students and their parents in the choice of schools.
Since 1967, PAASCU’s work has been officially recognized and endorsed by the Philippine government.

At bakit may mga ibang cities na mamamatay sa inggit? Eh ang Davao nagiging de facto capital ng Mindanao na yan simulat mula pa. Me nainggit ba at namatay? Dapat sa taga-Davao, i-compare nya yong status ng city nila with Cebu and Manila instead of benchmarking its development with other Mindanaoan cities. Metro level na kayo eh. Ngayon, nasaan ang Davao compared to Cebu and manila?
Sa post ko, nasaan yong bitterness, envy at patawa doon? Yong magsabi ng katotohanan?
Sana matauhan na kayo.
Dapat nga matuwa pa kayo kung ang city nyo ang ginawang benchmark ng ibang cities.

cguru as a COLLEGE, malayo na ang narating nila pero, when it comes to elementary and hs education, may ibang schools pa na mas abante sa kanila.
for example in math, ZCHHS and AEMSHS... and etc..
Chrisvenz May 10th, 2008, 01:11 PM in my opinion,Zamboanga Chong Hua high School is far better than ATEneo de Zamboanga High School..Puro yabang lang naman ang adzu, when it comes to quiz bowl and inter school contest, kulelat sila..Unlike chonghua, international ang recognition when it comes to Math Olymphiad..For all i thought magaling ang ADZU sa English, then how come hindi student nila ang napili sa FAbian Outstanding student for Journalism? at least ang Chong Hua candidate pa..
Just like sa USTET (university of sto.Thomas entrance test for college) only 10% of chonghua students passed, while 93% na ateneans passed the exams. Ang yabang niyo pa sa Math, pa easy easy pa kayo! Ang hina niyo naman sa English!!! Mahiya kayo. Dudungis niyo pang tignan! Hindi kami gaya-gaya sa Mandarin! Duh!!! Mga Foreign and Chinese Investors ang nagsabi na kailangan ng ateneo pagaralan ang basic mandarin kasi they want to HIRE ATENEO GRADUATES para to work in their company! Ang MATH NAMAN HINDI PANGHABANG BUHAY NAKATATAK SA MGA TRABAHO!!! Duh!!! Dont you have brain? And besides ingit lang kayo sa mga atenista kasi WE'RE ON THE TOP! MGA NAGAARAL DOON NAGIGING SOSYAL! WE DON'T CARE NA GALIT KAYO SAMIN MGA ATENISTA! KASI ALAM NAMIN INSECURE LANG KAYO! QUIZ BOWL AND INTER-SCHOOL competition? The important is WE WANT TO LEARN THE BASICS!
IF YOU DON'T LIKE ADZU, then who cares? DAHANDAHAN KA LANG SA MGA PINAGSASABE MO!! BAGONG SALTA KA LANG DITO BRO!:lol:
Every schools and every students has their own ACHIEVEMENTS! ikaw? Masaya ka ba dahil napasa mo lang ang mga subjects mo? puro pasang awa lang...:) PEACE!
Chrisvenz May 10th, 2008, 01:15 PM UZ’s Nursing Pioneer Batch sets record at 89% Passing Rate
The School of Allied Medicine (SAM) of Universidad de Zamboanga set the record high as its BS Nursing pioneering batch garnered 89% passing rate in the recent Nursing Licensure Examination given last December 2007.
SAM Dean, Dr. Norma E. Simborio broke the news to TGG as soon as they received the printed result from the Philippine Regulation Commission with UZ's passing rate of 89%.
Such rate surpasses the rest of the other local colleges and universities in the city who marked 54%, 53%, 43% and 42% respectively. The same holds true in the entire Region IX.
Based on the statistics gathered, UZ even surpassed other notable national colleges and universities such as De La Salle University- Dasmariñas with 83%, Far Eastern University – Manila with 83%, Philippine Women's University – Manila with 52%, San Beda College with 71% and University of Santo Tomas with 85%.
Simborio disclosed that such feat marked UZ's excellence in the academic arena, yet being the pioneering batch, the School of Allied Medicine-Nursing Department is bent on improving some more its instruction, facilities among other teaching techniques and strategies to fulfill their ultimate goal of 100% passing rate.
BOW!!! galing niyo! :) ang pangit na ng nursing sa adzu! over crowding na sila... tsktsk kaya konti lang pumapasa sa entrance exam... :ohno:
Chrisvenz May 10th, 2008, 01:18 PM wow..both schools do have their respective achievements in the field of Medicine...
Ganito siguro yan..
WMSU excels in Nursing
ADZU excels in Medicine
UZ excels in Radiology
hahaha, uu nga!

mbell_791983 May 10th, 2008, 02:06 PM To those who are trying to prove that Davao or Zamboanga or any other city will be progress and stand out in terms of economic developments, please stop it. Pantay-pantay lahat mga lungsod dito sa Pilipinas. Please lang, ayoko nagkakasakitan ng words. I believe Zamboanga can be like Davao in the future. It's the second largest city in Mindanao in terms of population so there'll be progress soon afterwards.
Can we just pray and help the city more beautiful as it is?
