orange.extremist August 24th, 2011, 02:28 AM HAHAHAHA... Get the facts and I'm not going very far; it's General Santos City which is also an envy by the Zamboangueños as getting to overtake ZAM. GES is neither a Provincial nor a regional center. It's Koronadal for both South Cotabato and SOCCSKSARGEN. Zamboanga City can grow even to become an autonomous city by its own. What we need is a leadership which have a vision for the city longer than a three three-year term and not the regional center. Read my sig.
Yes, Gensan:cheers: have you heard about howw GenSan's investment promotional board(correct me if I'm wrong with the term) intercedes in the process of investment in that City? That's precisely what I talked about, something that intervenes in the system in order to ensure faster processing and etc.
YES, I'm not arguing that we don't need good leaders but what I'm saying is that in order to be efficient, it is necessary for us to be strategically positioned considering that a lot of factors(i.e. City's image, location) affect the economy of the city.
GUARD MOUSE August 24th, 2011, 03:22 AM I hope our Local Government will also put attention to the Outside landscaping of the Fort Pilar National Museum coz it doesn't jive with that of Paseo and Plaza Pilar. Suppose to be ang Fort Pilar ang pinaka importante but siya pa ang dehado. :ohno: PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS, LGU!

ung fort pilar hawak parin ata ng National goverment. kaya wala masyadong maintenance.

I inquired from a friend at Robinsons Land who's overseeing RLC's Mindanao investments (malls and housing projects),
he said there's no truth to the blocking by the local Chinese biz community.
It so happened that RLC is currently constructing 6 other malls in other parts of the country and
they decided to postpone the construction of Robinsons Zamboanga to next year to manage their costs.
I immediately called a friend whose a senior VP of Robinsons Land in charge of Mindanao Investments and Operations.
He said there's no truth to what is placed in this news item like its being blocked by the Chinese biz sector or Lobregat seeking bribe money.
RLC just moved the construction schedule to next year since their having problems with additional costs as 6 other malls are already being constructed elsewhere.

Robinsons Land buys prime lot in Zamboanga
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Robinsons Land Corp. has confirmed it bought a prime property in the city earlier this year but denied local reports the company would be building a shopping mall on that site soon.
“We still don’t have any plan for Zamboanga City,” Roseann C. Villegas, Robinsons Land’s corporate public relations manager, told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview.
“I am not privy to the details, but yes, we bought a property in Zamboanga,” said Ms. Villegas adding that as per plans, the property firm’s newest malls would open in Calasiao, Pangasinan and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
Last month, Jaybee Robert V. Baginda, an official of the local Land Registration Authority, had said Robinsons Land bought a two-hectare property within the city’s downtown worth P100 million. This fueled speculations in the local business community, specifically those in retail, that a new Robinsons’ mall would be constructed soon.
This city, considered a trading and commercial hub of Western Mindanao, hosts five shopping centers.
City council member Melchor Rey K. Sadain had said a Robinsons’ mall in Zamboanga City would be a welcome development not only for the Zamboangueños but also for our neighboring island provinces.
Robinsons’ retail business has been active in Mindanao specifically in the cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Gen. Santos.
Robinsons’ department store currently serves as anchor establishment in the newly opened Abreeza shopping mall in Davao City, the first Ayala Land venture in Mindanao.
The Gokongwei-led developer grew its net profit for the six-month period ending March by 13% from year-ago levels to P2.037 billion, according to earlier reports.
This is slower than the 17% growth recorded for the first quarter of its fiscal year.
The first-half growth was attributed to a double-digit rise in earnings from the malls, office, hotel and residential businesses.
Shopping malls reportedly accounted for P1.576 billion or the biggest share of the developer’s six-month net profit. This was a 12% improvement from figures recorded in the same period last year. -- Amilbahar S. Mawallil

any truth to this???
I don't think this is true! Naki ride on lang to sa mga hearsay dito about city officials asking for the same amount of investment para paghatian nila. The property in question ay yung dating squatter's area na nasunog. I know the biggest lot owner there. Nakipag usap na sa kanila ang RLC at Gaisano noon but they don't want to sell their property yet since hindi pa naman daw nila kailangan ang pera. What Mayor Lobregat said in one TV interview is very true. Masyadong mahal ang mga lupa dito sa Zamboanga lalo na within the 7km radius from downtown. Ang problema sa mga big investors ayaw naman nila magtayo ng malls na malayo layo sa downtown. :ohno:

To help the students from spending additional fares on double rides, the City Council yesterday on its regular session approved a resolution addressed to the LTFRB and concerned drivers associations expressing its deep concern and importance on the necessity to open up new passenger jeepney route from Sta. Cruz intersection to WMSU area and R.T. Lim Boulevard.
Councilor Gerky Valesco, proponent of the resolution, said if realized, this will surely help the student passengers coming from the east coast barangays from spending additional fares on double and sometimes triple rides.
“I pity both the students and parents who always wake up early in the morning for school but most of the time come to classes already late because of traffic problem since they have to ride one vehicle to the other,” Valesco said.
The councilor said there are even other people who work at the canning factories who are also in the same traffic situation.
Valesco said student passengers from as far as Bolong, Manicahan, Cabaluay and other east coast barangays who are studying at the Western Mindanao State University, Pilar College, AMA Computer College, Zamboanga Polytechnic College, Claret, Comtech and Zamboanga National High School West are the ones mostly affected.
“Everything has gone up and we just cannot ignore the situation they are in. I pity them and their parents. I hope there are passenger vehicles that will hear the plea of our students and will include the additional route towards the WMSU area,” Valesco stressed.

orange.extremist August 26th, 2011, 09:15 AM Pag may Bad news. syempre may good news din :D
From FB page http://www.facebook.com/groups/Zambo...group_activity
RLC just moved the construction schedule to next year since their having problems with additional costs as 6 other malls are already being constructed elsewhere.
you're so funny, siguro tauhan ka ng Chinese Chamber of Commerce. :))

XZVHEN 8© August 26th, 2011, 10:59 AM i thnk napakaliit naman ng 2 hectares for a mall with parking area
ung 2 hectares ang meron na sila titulo, ung adjacent na 3 hectares nila na lot ay may kaso pa, may expansion pa sila pa side na under negotiations pa. so more or less nasa 6 hectares ang lot nila. pero kung tuloy naman ang construction siguro naayus na ang kaso. hopefully. ^^
2 hectares is even big enough, depende na yan sa diskarte kung paano ka mag plan ng spaces. pwede naman under ground ang parking para may 2-3 floors ng shops.
pero tingnan nalang kung final na ba talaga ung 2 hectare nila na land.

CITY Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) executives are looking at Zamboanga City as a viable and feasible investment site.
Orendain said the RLC officials recently met with Zamboanga City's investment board headed by Mayor Celso Lobregat to discuss plans for the putting up of a mall in the city after the company purchased a property at Nuñez extension.
The RLC officials, he added, are also planning to put up a multi-storey building instead of a horizontal complex since the company was only able to purchase half of its planned area.
Initially, the corporation's representatives were apprehensive about aviation regulations considering that the acquired property is located near the airport, said Orendain.
He said, however, that Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines manager Celso Bayabos can establish a multi-storey building in its property in Nuñez extension as it is over 150 meters away from the airport.
Airport regulations prohibit high-rise buildings within the 50-meter radius from the airport runway, Bayabos added.
Orendain said the City Government welcomes and encourages big corporations, particularly owners of huge chains of malls in the country, to invest in Zamboanga.
One of the factors that delay the opening of huge malls in the city is the price of land or properties offered by the private owners, he said. (Bong Garcia)

Barangay leaders of the city's 98 barangays have reasons to jump for joy.
This, after the city government under Mayor Celso Lobregat has appropriated P14.2 million under Supplemental Budget No. 2 for the purchase of pick-up vehicles intended for the barangay officials.
Councilor Benjamin Guingona disclosed that at least 90 pick-up type vehicles will be purchased for the mainland barangays and eight pumpboats for island barangays.
Guingona, who chairs the Appropriations Committee said the city council in last Wednesday's regular session approved on first reading Supplemental Budget No. 2 amounting to P182,430,900.00.
The councilor also enumerated some of the projects which will be funded under the supplemental funds such as the construction of the Limaong Steel Bridge worth P40 million, artesian wells, reservoir and water pumping stations costing P10 million, construction of School buildings and repair P12 million, P1.4 million for the purchase of an ambulance for the City Health Office, medical equipment and the upgrading of health centers.
The alderman said the Limaong steel bridge cost P120 million. The additional materials like steel and tech-know-how will be provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
“I will have to schedule another public hearing on September 1, 2011 to thresh out other projects that can be incorporated in the supplemental fund,” Guingona said.

After lagging behind in the hosting of several chain of stores, the city of Zamboanga will finally join the ranks of cities with their own SM, Gaisano, Robinson and other establishments in the country.
City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr, said executives from the Robinsons Land Corp. looked at Zamboanga as a viable and feasible investment site, as they continued to explore possibilities of investing in the city.
Orendain said officials from Robinsons Land recently met with the City’s Investment Board, headed by Mayor Celso Lobregat, to discuss plans for the putting up of a mall in the city after the company had purchased a property at Nuñez extension.
While the company wanted to purchase a bigger property to ensure a bigger mall complex, Robinsons Land was only able to purchase half of its planned area, as the price of the adjacent property was excessively high.
A group of investors reportedly purchased an adjoining property before Robinson could close the deal on a similar lot – now fenced off from two corner roads.
Orendain said Thomas Lee O., the corporation’s vice president for Complex Administration and Property Management and another official had emphasized that with the smaller area, the plan was to put up a multi-storey building instead of a horizontal complex.
Initially, the corporation’s representatives were apprehensive about aviation regulations considering that the acquired property was located near the airport.

However, Orendain said, the mayor had intervened and summoned Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) manager Celso Bayabos to attend the meeting and explain about the aviation regulations.
The CAAP official said that Robinsons Land could very well establish a multi-storey building in its property in Nunez extention (at the back of the Emcor), as it is over 150 meters away from the airport.
Airport regulations prohibit high-rise buildings within the 50-meter radius from the airport runway.
Orendain said that the city government welcomed and encouraged big corporations, particularly owners of huge chains of malls in the country to invest in the country.
One of the factors that delay the opening of huge malls here is the price of land or properties offered by the private owners.

http://www.gabayguro.com/images/temp/logo_western%20mindanao.jpg
The four aspirants to the vacant presidency of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) will present their individual platform of governance and development for the institution during a public forum tomorrow, August 17, at the university gymnasium. The public is invited to attend and participate in the forum.
The four candidates are all incumbent position holders in the university, namely, Dr. Ederlinda Fernandez – faculty member, College of Public Administration ad Development Studies; Dr. Ofelio Mendoza – Dean, College of Public Administration and Development Studies; Dr. Grace Rebollos – Vice-President for Research, Extension and Development; and, Atty. Eduardo Sanson – Dean, College of Law.
WMSU Board Secretary Engr. Armando Arquiza said each of the candidates will have 15 minutes to make an oral presentation of their program, followed immediately by a 15-minute open forum. After all the four have made their presentations, the public will have another 15 minutes to ask them additional questions.
Their performance in the forum will have a bearing on the recommendation of the search committee created to handle the process of selecting the next president. The final decision will be made collegially by the 10-member WMSU Board of Regents, Arquiza said.
Arquiza said the board is expected to make its choice within a few days after the public forum, possibly within two days. A special board meeting has already been set for the members to deliberate and decide on the applications, he said. — Rey-Luis Banagudos/PAO-WMSU

its either SM or Gaisano. There's a "haka-haka" that after the expansion of SM Cebu seaside, SM will expand in Mindanao; Zamboanga City. For Gaisano, after putting a Mall in Pagadian, Zamboanga City, I think is their another pot for money and investment.
theborgv August 27th, 2011, 10:14 AM We really cannot compare Zamboanga City to metropolitan cities because being a metro they are very progressive with many business and work opportunities for everyone, entertaining new perspectives and ideas open mindedly.
For example, here in Zamboanga most restaurants are offering only barbeque foods, bilao, and pizza places with bien-sobra-pino-pizza. Go to to other places like Cebu and you'll find different varieties. Here, the Garden Orchid is the biggest and the "best" kunu when in reality bien lungkuy and overpriced.
In Zamboanga when you go into malls, they will check your baggage going in and going out. GOING OUT? WTF!

SM will start the construction of their mall here in 2013, after the opening of SM City Lanang in Davao.

anyway I also read yung sa fan page ni Hon. Vincent Paul Elago yung about the coming of Robinson and ito nman yung nasabi niya....
Vincent Paul Elago Full Here's what I heard... The Camins side beside jollibee was purchased by 168 mall. The one at Nunez Extension is still owned by Robinsons... There's another group that is planning to purchase another huge property to build a 5 Billion Pesos Mall.
Vincent Paul Elago Full That will make a total of 4 new malls within 5 years. 168 Mall, Robinsons Mall, SM Mall, Shopper's Mall (Ice Plant area) and hopefully that other 5B Mall that I mentioned a while back...
and the SM wat he told in the FB page niya:
Vincent Paul Elago Full El SM na 2013 pa man el plano de ila para principia construi aqui...
from FB page of Hon. Vincent Elago...answer niya yan sa isang katanungan sa page niya...

You're right that we can't really compare Zamboanga City to those "metropolitan cities". Zamboanga is standing alone and it serves the people of Basilan, Jolo and Tawi-Tawi. Cost of living in the Metro are expensive and with just a salary of 20K per month in metro, it's still not enough. In Zamboanga, you can survive with 20K for a month. Lastly, restaurant doesn't need to be expensive or whatsoever. Restaurants are built to serve the people. There are lot of restaurants in Zamboanga City and I think you have to explore Zamboanga before you go to your conclusions.

windlady August 28th, 2011, 01:55 PM Robinsons pursues investment plan
Friday, August 26, 2011
CITY Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) executives are looking at Zamboanga City as a viable and feasible investment site.
Orendain said the RLC officials recently met with Zamboanga City's investment board headed by Mayor Celso Lobregat to discuss plans for the putting up of a mall in the city after the company purchased a property at Nuñez extension.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Then what hampered the construction of ATOA Function building which is 650 meters away?
orange.extremist August 28th, 2011, 03:06 PM We really cannot compare Zamboanga City to metropolitan cities because being a metro they are very progressive with many business and work opportunities for everyone, entertaining new perspectives and ideas open mindedly.
GOING OUT? WTF!
I really don't get your logic. I think it's flawed, really. Why is shopping and food your medium of comparison? You need to take into consideration the economic aspect of being a metropolitan city.
Also, Zamboanga City isn't a metropolitan city. It's like trying to compare a car with a boat.

In the first place, HIGHRISE ba ang convention center na yun? Think daw! :poke: It stopped its construction maybe because of its very unideal location for a convention center, not because of airport regulations regarding highrises. Stupid.

Hi Chuck, The angle of the shots are misleading because of the foreshortening and those buildings won't be built by todays standards and countries abide differently with the by-laws, those airports you have shown is a testament of why airports are at risk when buildings proliferate and here's the catch, those ones are actually on the dangerous list. Note that FAA is all eyes on us because of our downgrade and any misstep by our CAAP will do us no good. Thus, they cant allow implementation of structures just by bare minimums. Here's a clue, google Chep Lak Lok and measure the distance of the highest structure from the centreline of the runway, there are condominiums on the mainland, if it has the same distance with the probable site for a Robs highrise in Zambo then you are right on the money. By the way, if you share this at the airport thread, you will get constructive discussions from other forumers as well. Thanks.

I guess the confidence and probably strong hope that we have that it would be a mid-rise to high rise are rooted on the clearance given by CAAP itself. The said office has given RLC the go signal to construct a multi-storey structure on its lot without mentioning any limit as to how many storeys the structure can have.

chuck23 August 30th, 2011, 12:04 PM It doesn't have to be big just because of Zamboanga's population. As long as Robinsons can cater the needs of Zamboanga and nearby cities and provinces.
I have a feeling Robinsons will need to expand its mall further because of the unexpected demand of retail space because of sky-rocketing sales a few months after its opening here. Indeed, Zamboanga does give the highest revenue for first day opening (like Max's Resto). Expect the unexpected ROBINSONS!

Tuesday, 30 August 2011 16:50
Mayor Celso Lobregat and Congresswoman Beng Climaco-Salazar together with other urban poor organization officials unveiled Sunday morning a P4-million housing project in Barangay Maasin, east of this city.
In his message, Mayor Lobregat commended the members and officers of the Bernal Ecology Village Homeowners Association headed by City Housing and Land Use Management Officer Rodrigo Pagotaisidro as president for establishing the almost four-hectare housing project that promises to be a peaceful community of Christians and Muslims.
“In Zamboanga City, Muslims and Christians live harmoniously and peacefully and this housing project proves that fact,” Lobregat said, noting that the 98 beneficiaries of the Bernal Ecology Village are Christians and Muslims employed with the local and national government agencies, police and military.
For her part, Deputy House Speaker Salazar, who was accompanied by her husband, welcomed the new housing village within her district, particularly in Barangay Maasin, which she will help finance through the National Housing Authority (NHA) in the amount for P4 million.
Both Lobregat and Salazar led in the ceremonial ribbon cutting and lowering of the time capsule for the new housing village, which sits on a four-hectare property of the Bernal family. It is planted to different fruit trees and boasts of its green and fresh environment. The project is expected to be completed in three years’ time.
Also present during the unveiling program were Maasin barangay Chairman Misael “Doglo” Bernardo, who is also an officer and beneficiary of the housing village, the barangay kagawad and other urban poor organization officials. — Vic Larato

HAHAHA. I don't think that will happen, I don't think it's a part of the interest of the Chong Hua board of trustees and the De La Salle Brothers.
Chong Hua Hospital, is not related to ZCHHS.. perhaps, the chances of having a chong hua hospital(in relation to ZCHHS establishing it) is quite impossible.

Sales is what matters, not the size. When SM and Ayala started in Cebu, people were asking why they are not big as they expected it to be the same size as the ones done in Manila. Look where these malls are now, they have maximized their lots already. While SM has Mall of Asia in Manila, Cebu will get another big one at SRP; no complaints from the Cebuanos now, all the choices they have.
