I didn't base that question on their posts. I came up with that question as a result of a personal analysis of your posts and those of a forumer named Pagadianongyud. Also, there's a currently under-construction expansion at the Villa Theresa Subdivision in Culianan, and Chook's to Go has finally branched out to Divisoria, probably its farthest branch in the east coast.

There also appears to be activities going on at the construction site of Shoppers' Mall. Can anyone confirm?

This was the former Zamboanga Plaza Hotel, famous for its casino. Lucio Tan bought this sometime in the early 90's. I just don't know if he still owns it or has sold it already. It's a good site for a multi story hotel with a cable car connection to Abong-Abong. I heard this was the plan of Mr. Tan but when the city council did not allow casinos to operate here again, the project was shelved.:ohno:

unfortunately nuay iyo camera at that time. But i think you can go there. Just make up some excuse to the guards

“This crime lab is evidence of the partnership between the Philippines and the United States,” said Chief De Asis. “With this building and equipment, we are better able of carry out our mandate to support the Filipino people and other law enforcement agencies.”
Ambassador Thomas in his remarks, recognized the important role played by the Philippine Security Forces for their role in serving and protecting the Zamboanga community.
“This crime lab represents the realization of a dream, where many people are working together for a common goal,” said the Ambassador. “It takes a special kind of person to dedicate their life to the service of others.”
Police officials escorted the Ambassador through the building as it was blessed by a local religious leader.
Afterward, Philippine Security Officials thanked the United States for funding the project.
The lab is part of a series of initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of the force.

For the last few months, you may seem to notice these large colorful buses of Gloria’s Fantasyland in Cagayan de Oro City. They usually park near Limketkai Complex.

Gloria’s Fantasyland is Mindanao’s version of Disneyland (at a much smaller scale) located at the heart of historic Dapitan City. It is also owned by the Jalosjos Family of the famed Dakak Resort. Prior to these packaged tours, these buses just ply the Dakak-Gloria’s Fantasyland route and vice-versa.

The presence of these buses is brought about by the P999 budget packaged tours which include an overnight stay at Dakak, all rides free at Gloria’s Fantasyland, Dapitan historical tour and the free bus transfers from Cagayan de Oro City and other selected destinations as shown below. The package requires a minimum of 50 persons in order to avail of such.

THE management of the Shoppers' chain of stores, which were recently padlocked by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), expressed high hopes that the BIR will allow them to resume operations.

This, after the BIR through its regional has accepted the partial payment of P5 million, which was paid last Thursday, coupled with the appeal for reconsideration and recomputation of taxes due.

BIR Regional Director Rozil Lozares led last Wednesday the Operation Plan Kandado (Oplan Kandado) team in serving the closure order to the management of the Shoppers' Central, Shoppers' Center, Shoppers' Emporium, Shoppers' Square and Shoppers' Plaza that all belong to the Shoppers' chain of stores for non-payment of taxes to the government worth P54 million.

Lozares said the closure order was issued by BIR Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henarez by virtue of Section 115 of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997.

The closure of the five business establishments was also based on a recommendatory report of the investigating office as reviewed by the National Review Board, Lozares said.

Lozares said management of the Shoppers' chain of stores was required to pay the government at least five percent of the basic tax dues within a five-day period.

Alex Ang, one of the managers of Shoppers' chain of stores, clarified that it was not the intention of the owners not to pay taxes to the BIR.

Ang said it was the opinion of the owners that the tax assessment was rather too high and done without the proper data based on books of accounts, however, some intervening events including the passing of his mother, made the owners fail to make prompt representations with the BIR that led to the temporary closure order.

Ang said they are still awaiting further notice from the BIR in connection with the lifting of the order but stressed that the owners “will try our best to request the BIR to let us open first and make a reassessment of the taxes before deciding on the closure order.”

The lifting of the closure order will come from BIR-Manila based on the recommendations of the regional office.

On the other hand, Ang has assured that the almost 1,000 workers of the Shopper's chain of stores will be paid their full salaries during the five days when the closure order is in effect.

He said the owners acceded to Mayor Celso Lobregat’s request to pay the workers as a show of gratitude to the employees for their efficient service, patience and loyalty.

“We thank you for all those years you served us. Thank you for you have been patient with us, showed your understanding. We are very proud of you,” he said of the employees.

In a meeting Friday afternoon called by Lobregat, it was disclosed that the estimated daily payroll for the employees of the five stores is P200,000 which will translate to some P1 million for the five days (September 7 to 11) payment.

Lobregat called the meeting to address the plight of the employees of the Shoppers' chain of stores who were affected by the temporary closure order.

Aside from Alex Ang, those who attended the meeting from the management side were Agustin and Henry Ang and officials from the Department of Labor and Employees, Employees Confederation of the Philippines, Public Employment Service Office, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

“Our concern is the plight of the workers,” Lobregat explained.

MAYOR Celso Lobregat has created a committee that will work on preparations, planning and budgeting to ensure a more vibrant and successful Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

The annual Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s patron saint whose feast day will be on October 12.

The activities, however, will be a month-long affair starting October 1.

This year’s fiesta is dubbed “Fiesta Hermosa...Vamos a Zamboanga,” stressing on the city’s goal to promote Zamboanga as a tourist and investment destination.

Thousands of people troop to the Fort Pilar Shrine in Rio Hondo on October to show devotion to the Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar.

Lobregat issued Executive Order No. CL-418-2011 creating the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Committee with City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. as chairman and City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernandez as co-chairman.

The committees include ways and means, physical set-up, events management/secretariat, transportation/reception/food/snacks and inter-barangay presentation, security, media affairs/documentation and technical requirements, program preparation, distribution, technical support, sports, cleanliness/sanitation, booth/stalls and marshal and parade management.

Lobregat said the festival will not only revere the patron saint but will also aim increase people’s awareness and interest on the rich history and cultural heritage of Zamboanga City, and also on the potentials of its local tourism industry.

If so, yes, I heard that the "road" leading to it is indeed so steep and quite rough that ordinary vehicles have to park somewhere way before the resort premises (so it would be better if you rent a public vehicle than bring your own if its not made for off-road journeys), but, if I remember correctly, there are motorcycles that offer rides to guests from the end point of four-wheeled vehicles to the resort gates. Well, this is what I heard (or at least, I remember hearing) from my friends as I haven't been there yet, so the information may not be that accurate. One thing's for sure though: after your long, hell-like journey, you'll be very much pleased at the heaven-like paradise that will greet you serenely.

no. la vista del monte and rancho frio are different resorts.. rancho frio belongs to zamboecozone, while the former belongs to a private owner.. and no, both distance are still far from each other though they both belong to the same are of La Paz highlands. in order to reah R.F. you still have to follow a trail towards inland. while ang L.V.M., its just located along the main road of La Paz. L.V.M for me jas the best house-like cottage in all resorts the city has to offer. With the climate La Paz has, it's the best vacation getaway that needs not to travel from afar! No wonder homegrown strawberries are growing in heaven-like La Paz.. I just hope that zc-lgu will concretize La Paz major road..

Thousands of indigent and deserving people availed of the free medical and dental mission conducted by the Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps at the Recodo National High School in the west coast yesterday through the initiative of House Deputy Speaker Beng Climaco in partnership with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and the Rotary Club of Chinatown.

Today, a similar outreach mission is set at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Multi-purpose Covered Court at La Purisima Street to service the indigent sector residing within the city proper in District I.

Cong. Climaco, who celebrated her birthday September 7, initiated the medical mission for her constituents in District I in line with her health advocacy and at the same time as a birthday treat to the people. The mission is from Sept. 11-12.

The Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps is a 19-member team headed by Dr. Liu Chi-Chun. It is composed of all-Taiwanese doctors and registered nurses. The group has agreed to come over to Zamboanga to conduct the medical and dental outreach in two areas in District 1 as part of its mission.

The 2-day mission in Zamboanga is the first time for the team which brings along medicines and even medical equipment to conduct the free consultation for indigent families.

Two high-ranking Taiwanese officials also came over to supervise the mission, these are Hon. Pei Yung Hsu, Deputy Representative in Manila of the Taiwan Government (diplomat) and Mr. Man Chang Yang, executive assistant to Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office Representative in Manila.

In the Recodo medical mission yesterday, patients came not only from the barangay but also from nearby villages while for the ADZU medical mission today will serve people residing in nearby barangays particularly those within the 5-kilometer radius from the city proper.

Meanwhile, Cong. Climaco expressed gratitude to the city government through Mayor Celso Lobregat, members of the Zamboanga City Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce through its president Richard Chan, members of the Rotary Club of Metro Zamboanga, the Philippine Medical Society thru President Dr. Orly Paber, the Department of Health thru Dr. Aristedes Tan, the ADZU College of Nursing with Dean Lorna Paber, TFZ, EAAB, volunteer registered nurses and barangay and school officials of barangay RECODO and RECODO National Higsh School respectively, for facilitating the conduct of the mission and for helping her office welcome and ensure the safety of the visitors.

On Saturday night, Cong. Climaco tendered a welcome dinner for the Taiwan Root Medical Corps. The event was highlighted by the signing of a sisterhood agreement between the Rotary Club of Chinatown and the Rotary Club Metro Zamboanga—which was an offshoot of the Taiwanese medical mission in Zamboanga.

On Sunday, the city government through Mayor Lobregat also hosted a dinner party for the Taiwanese Root Medical Corps also as a show of friendship and gratitude.

Sorry, but I'm no longer connected with the bank. That loan proposal was 4 years ago pa. The interior was nice. There was even a list of tenants who already committed to lease spaces there. When the loan was rejected, the owners should have revised it pero ya para man duru. They presented the same proposal to other banks but got the same result - DISAPPROVED. Shoppers' Center Gateway though was approved because the loan was just a little over P150 million. Porsigi se si menora sila el cost del proyecto which means cambia gat sila el design. Basta mas grande lang kunel Mindpro ok ya era. :)

Si el 3 biggest banks yan disapproved kunel loan, I doubt chene otro pa bangko man take el risk to lend UNLESS ya cambia ya sila el design to reduce the cost. El cosa sila cen ya usa para na initial phase del project ay personal di ila. If you noticed bigla lang yan stop el trabaho antes. That's because yan received ya sila el notice cay disapproved di ila loan. Era numa lang gat anay sila ambitious. Anyway puede lang man se man expand in the future. Shoppers' employees join City Hall flag ceremony

Hundreds of Shoppers' chain of stores employees joined Mayor Celso Lobregat during the flag raising ceremony yesterday at the City Hall.

The employees came from Shoppers' Plaza, Shoppers' Center the Gateway, Shoppers' Emporium, Shoppers' Central, and Shoppers' Square.

After the flag ceremony, a representative of the employees personally thanked the mayor for intervening in the situation after the Shoppers' chain of stores was padlocked by the Bureau of Internal Revenue IX (BIR) last Wednesday.

The five Shoppers' stores are now open after the lifting of the closure order.

Lobregat said, “the closure order has been lifted and we like to thank the BIR in the sense they have accepted the initial payment of P5 Million and the request of shoppers through this initial payment that the closure order will be lifted.”

The mayor explained that he only intervened because of the plight of the employees and not about the problem of the Shoppers' chain of stores with the BIR.

The owner of the department stores, according to Lobregat, has initially paid an amount to the BIR and they are asking for a recomputation and reconsideration on the total amount.

The mayor appealed to the businessmen to pay their taxes. “My appeal for the businessmen is to pay the proper taxes so they will not get into a situation like this.”

According to Lobregat, the employees of the Shoppers' will be paid from Wednesday to Sunday. “We asked the management if they could come up with a scheme wherein the employers will not follow the no work no pay, and we get the shoppers group of company to commit that from the time of closure up to Sunday, the employees will get paid.”

The closure of the five stores according to the mayor did not affect the economy of the city since the purchasing power of the employees was not diminished because of the full payment of salaries even if the employees did not work.

Meanwhile, one of the employees of Shoppers Square for 16 years, Engracia Benigno said they were worried that they might loose their jobs. She thanked Mayor Lobregat and Congresswoman Beng Climaco for helping them.

The employee added that they really have no idea about the problem of the company with the BIR.

DOT IX seeks public support for Fiesta preparation

The Regional Director of the Department of Tourism IX (DOT) has urged the public to help prepare the city for the upcoming Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2011.

DOT IX Regional Director Mary June Bugante said, “I appeal to the people to help prepare our city by keeping our place clean and green.”

According to Bugante, the office is expecting a lot of visitors including balikbayans for the fiesta.

The Regional Tourism Officer added, “we want them to enjoy the beauty of Zamboanga and experience the fun and festivity of the Hermosa Festival."

In preparation for the fiesta, the office is also set to train the City’s Tourist Police and also conduct a tour guiding seminar this month.

Meanwhile, the City Government of Zamboanga together is now preparing the activities for the fiesta on October 12 which has a budget of P2 Millon.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Fiesta Hermosa Vamos a Zamboanga.”

The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is being held yearly in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar who is said to be the City’s mother protector.

Some of the activities during the fiesta will include Cosechas, Mascota, Chavacano Song Festival, Regata de Zamboanga, Job Fair, Medical Mission, Miss Zamboanga, and many others.

Pareja ready to say 'No' to Lobregat on coal-plant issue

“Even if Mayor Celso Lobregat will ask me to support the entry of the coal-fired power plant, I will not give in to his request.”

Thus, the strong message of Talisayan barangay chair Josephine Pareja in an interview over RMN yesterday.

Pareja pointed out it is the sentiments of the leaders and residents of Talisayan and not hers alone that they are against the entry of the coal plant in their locality.

Pareja sought a council seat but lost in the 2010 elections under the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) of Lobregat.

The chairwoman said even if other leaders of nearby barangays like Pamucutan and Sinubung, who passed their own resolutions of no objection, “we will remain steadfast in objecting the coal plant in our community. Find another barangay and put up the coal plant there and not in Talisayan.”

She blamed the City Council for the passage of the resolution of No Objection even without the conduct of any consultation with the people in the affected barangay.

“Mali nga itong immediate passage of the no objection resolution dahil ina-akala ng mga ibang tao na kami ay sang-ayon sa coal plant,” Pareja stressed.

“Even if Conal Holdings Corporation will take me to Thailand, USA or China, no amount of these visits to other countries can change my mind because we know the hazardous effects of coal to the environment,” Pareja said.

Pareja emphasized that the council should first conduct consultation to get the real sentiments of the residents instead of passing the resolution of no objection with haste.

“Si Consejal Rey Candido ya abla porke pa man consulta kunel maga hente de Talisayan nukiere gane sila coal plant ay consulta pa,” Pareja quoted Councilor Candido as saying.

Pareja also questioned the action of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources when it approved the usage of coal in the boilers of some canning factories.

The coal ash being stashed by the canning factories outside its plant is one of the reasons why the leaders and residents are against the entry of the coal plant in their community, she emphasized.

They could convert one of their buildings into a parking building then lease the others to companies like Convergys. Hell, if they really want a hotel then they can also convert one of their buildings into one. This way, there won't be any conflict and they'll gain profit. ;)

Actually Marl depende man ese na amount del loan kere sila man avail. Manada kasi factors ta mira el bangko before dale presta cen. Kere lang asigura el bangko na puede gat sila paga cay el payments saca sila na income lang man tamen del negosyo. Akel di ila original design na will cost P600 million puede lang man siempre sila kel ase pero debe part lang de akel el man loan sila na bangko. Not the total amount. Baka 300-400 million puede pa gaha dale el bangko. El cosa palta busca ya lang sila manera onde puede saca. Era porsigi lang siempre se Shoppers' Mall. :)
