CebuPac to use new A320 for more flights to South
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu Pacific, which took delivery of its 35th aircraft in early October, said Wednesday it will use this new Airbus A320 to mount more flights
to Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Cebu starting October 14.

In a bid to expand access to major domestic leisure and business destinations, the leading budget airline will also launch on Friday daily Airbus A319 service from
Zamboanga to Tawi-Tawi; and thrice-weekly ATR service from Cagayan de Oro to Iloilo.

Two more brand-new A320 aircraft are expected to arrive later this month and in December. Cebu Pacific said that by yearend, it will operate a fleet of 37 aircraft,
one of the most modern fleets worldwide.

It now boasts the distinction of having the youngest fleet in the country. It is also the only Philippine carrier that acquires all its aircraft brand-new.

I've also seen pictures of GOH taken by another photographer. I'll be posting them on the next thread. It will surely make you want to live there!

We were minutes late for the fireworks display! Urgh. Several people that we've met all loved it! Chinese lanterns (those floating, lit things) were also set afloat last night, just before midnight struck.

So there's Checkbooks. I've always wondered if the closure of their store in La Pu was the end to the bookstore's existence or if they moved to somewhere else. The space they used to rent by the way is now under renovation. It was earlier reported that it will be occupied by Swank Barbershop after Mang Inasal rented Swank's previous space.

The fenced lot behind BSP was turned into a carpark during the fiesta. Also, there's an under construction building near the car exit of ZCMC. Would that be the site of the upcoming BDO branch along Veterans?

Fountain unveiled at historic plaza (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/zamboanga/local-news/2011/10/12/fountain-unveiled-historic-plaza-184661)
Wednesday, October 12, 2011

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Celso Lobregat and Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. unveiled Tuesday night the multi-patterned fountain at the Plaza Pershing that is undergoing renovation.

Lobregat said the multi-patterned fountain is only one of the features at Plaza Pershing, one of Zamboanga City's tourist landmarks and was originally named Plaza Salcedo. It was built in 1915.

The multi-patterned fountain, consisting of one precision coherent pulsating center jet, two revolving fountains and six arching jets, was the second of three fountains to be unveiled in the city.

The first one was the laminar shooting jets fountain, which was unveiled September 26, at Jardin Maria Clara in the village of Pasonanca.

A musically gyrating fountain, which is under construction at the Paseo del Mar, will be the third one to be unveiled this year, Lobregat said.

Jimenez hailed the local government's project, saying Zamboanga City will lead the country in terms of color, excitement and energy.

The City Government set the unveiling of the fountain Tuesday night, the eve of the feast day of Our Lady of the Pillar. (Bong Garcia)

Padaca graces ADZU symposium (http://www.zamboangatoday.ph/index.php/news/13-top-stories/6550--padaca-graces-adzu-symposium.html)

The former Governor of Isabela Province, Grace Padaca graced the Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s (ADZU) Mabuting EHEMplo Symposium for College and High School students held on October 8.

Padaca said in a press conference yesterday, “I’m very happy to be part of the series ng fora na ginagawa ng ADZU in preparation leading to the centennial of ADZU. This year their focus is citizenship.”

The former governor was invited to talk about good governance and ethical leadership to the students.

It’s not just leadership but also citizenship.”

The former governor also told the students and parents, “We have a very beautiful country, with a lot of hope, and a lot of potentials. I say that from someone coming from Isabela and visiting Zamboanga City. Parang doon sa norte to the south, marami pang pwedeng mangyari sa ating bansang Pilipinas, kahit totoong maraming salbhe at kurakot sa pamahalaan, kahit sabihin natin 4 Million sila ilan tayo? Around 90 Million yung 85 Million na Pilipino gusto naman natin ng tama at maganda bakit tayo magpapatalo?"

According to Padaca when it comes to good governance, “parang napaka abstract ng good governance but it’s as simple as respecting and implementing the law. There’s no formula, andun na lahat, meron na tayong batas galing sa congreso yung LGU code sundin mo lang kung ano ang nasa batas at gawin mong manual yung batas para you cannot go wrong or do wrong with your citizens.”

Meanwhile, it was Padacas’s first time to visit the City and she was impressed of the city's rich culture. “Mayaman na mayaman sa kultura ang Zamboanga.”

According to Padaca, “naiingit ako sa inyo dahil meron pagkakataong ganito na naprepreseve niyo yung inyong salita. Sana ipreserve talaga kasi kaya tayo nandito ngayon dahil sa ating past. We have survived all this years because we came from a past that was strong. As long as we go back to our history and appreciate our ancestors, preserve what we can sana ito ang maging armas natin hindi yung mga bomba at firearms.”

Padaca also graced the Chavacano Song Festival and the Regatta de Zamboanga which are part of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. The former governor was impressed of the chavacano songs and the colorful vintas.

Lobregat unveils Zambo's second fountain (http://www.zamboangatoday.ph/index.php/news/13-top-stories/6575-lobregat-unveils-zambos-second-fountain.html)

http://www.zamboangatoday.ph/images/stories/topstories3startsfeb1411/fountain-picture---3-columns.jpg

Mayor Celso Lobregat has unveiled the P2.3 Million Multi-Patterned fountain at Plaza Pershing on Tuesday evening.

Lobregat said, “never mind the cost, but it’s beautiful. It cost about P2.3 Million.”

City funds were used for the mentioned project and the contractor for the project was Industron, Inc.

Zamboanga Archbishop Romulo Valles officiated the blessing rites. Robert Ciare, representative of Industron Inc., formally turned over the project to City Engineer Luis Despalo who then turned it over to Mayor Lobregat. The Mayor then turned over the project to City General Services Officer Engr. Rene Dela Cruz. The mayor instructed Dela Cruz to look over the operation of the fountain.

Secretary of Tourism, Ramon Jimenez Jr. who was the guest of honor during the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, graced the turn over of the fountain.

Earlier, the mayor turned over a laminar shooting jets fountain at the Jardin Maria Clara.

Another fountain is set to be unveiled soon at Paseo del Mar.

The tourism projects are part of the City Development Strategy which intends to attract not only

domestic and foreign visitors but the locals as well.

The colorful fountain can now be enjoyed by the residents for free. During the day, the lights of the fountain will be turned off and the lights will be turned on around seven in the evening.

I wasn't able to find close-up photos of other notable fountains in the city such as those in front of the Cathedral and Saint Ignatius Church in Tetuan. Btw, it's good to know that the fountain in Plaza Pershing will still be turned on during daytime, except for the lights of course. I almost thought it would be nothing but a pool during the day and will spring to life only for a few hours at night.

and to include the recently constructed dancing fountain at the Paseo del Mar which from the words of Councilor Candido "the largest dancing fountain in the country." These edifices can help boost local tourism, additional title for the city - Ciudad de Fontana. Como Rome lang ba.

The mayor's address during the Float Parade and Street Dance Competition, is by far, the most inspiring of all his speeches. His speech highlights the indomitable spirit of the Zamboanueños, who, in the midst of adversities remained strong and resilient. He further urged the people of Zamboanga to remain steadfast in their devotion to the Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, and not to show any sign of fear and panic, so not to give sense of triumph to the perpetrators.

Question, why are people calling Chris Dela Cruz "Monsi Dela Cruz"? he is no longer a monsignor so why call him Monsi?

I think the people have just gotten used to it lang that's why he's still called "Monsi". Ta lama cunele Monsi Cris ya lang man. Hende ya Monsignor Cris. Dol el "Monsi" ya keda ya palayaw di suu. In fact if you mention the word "Monsi" todo hente aqui ta pensa daun kun Cris Dela Cruz. Hende man gaha malo si lama cunele "Monsi" lang. Akel ya pasa maga eleccion ya pone man tamen le el "Monsi" na uno del di suu aliases cuando yan file ele COC. Baka mas umalin si lama cunele "Sister":lol::lol:

I wonder what is the status of this bill:

UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES IN ZAMBOANGA ACT (http://senate.gov.ph/lis/bill_res.aspx?congress=14&q=SBN-2662)

If you will look at the legislative history of the bill, it was referred in its appropriate committee. After, it will survive the rigors in the committee levels, it must be calendared for the second reading. Two possibilities, (1) it was disapproved in the committee level that is why it did not reached the next step, (2) on the process of deliberating in the committee level, the bill got shadowed by the 2010 Election. Since the author (Senator Biazon) is not already a Senator in the 15th Congress, the bill was not re-filed in the Senate.

I guess the strong effort in making the passage of the bill possible should come from the local legislators whose districts are the primary target clientele of the proposed UP Zamboanga.

^^I guess, It's up to our two congress members of the city as well as the representatives from the nearby provinces and cities to propose this kind of bill in Congress.

They should also talk again with some senate members to also support this bill.

However, At present I don't see it coming in the near future. Cong. Beng would play a significant role in this being the Deputy Speaker for Mindanao but she is too already busy with the regional center issue, peace talks of the GRP-MILF and women's issue. Cong. Fabian can focus on this one but I think he is too busy with sports. (Golpe-golpe )

^^ Astoria and Marcian Should also catch up....

TV Patrol Chavacano: ASIA'S MOST COLORFUL CITY may be the city's additional moniker beginning next year's Hermosa Festival.

Hmmm... Any justification of why should it be "colorful"? :)

Astoria has already began the expansion and major renovation of their hotel downtown. It looks a whole lot better now even if construction activities are still ongoing.

Hmmm... Any justification of why should it be "colorful"? :)

Vintas, floral floats, street dance.. I forgot the other reasons why the DOT Secretary gave the city that moniker. :)

Sabi ng Director of Phil. National Museum, tila napagiwanan na ang museum sa mga developments inside Fort Pilar, kaya para puntahan ito ng mga locals at ng mga tourists, he will work hard daw to also maintain and develop the museum.

Yes, he's planning to make it a wi-fi hub. Project Funding? That's the question. He might ask daw from private entities for its further implementation.. So another PPP project? Ehy not, diba?

He did not mention putting up a coffee shop, but siyempre, maganda talaga pag may coffeeshop , para tambayan ito ng mga tourists.. Maganda ang idea na 'yon GUARDIA SIBIL...

^^Astoria is also having their own improvements :okay: but Marcian? uhmmmmm.... hmmmmmm.... No changes from them recently. :ohno:

Astoria has already began the expansion and major renovation of their hotel downtown. It looks a whole lot better now even if construction activities are still ongoing.

I meant that I hope that in the near future, they will improving at the same rate of how GOH and Lantaka is improving now....

and to include the recently constructed dancing fountain at the Paseo del Mar which from the words of Councilor Candido "the largest dancing fountain in the country." These edifices can help boost local tourism, additional title for the city - Ciudad de Fontana. Como Rome lang ba.

Interesting... Can anyone confirm if this is true? I think the largest and grandest dancing fountain is at Manila Ocen Park...

2 Azkals grace football festival (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/zamboanga/sports/2011/10/13/2-azkals-grace-football-festival-184868)

TWO members of the Philippine Azkals team will arrive in Zamboanga City Friday to grace the opening of a football tournament, which is part of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2011 activities.

Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta are coming with Philippine Air Force (PAF) chief Lieutenant General Oscar Rabena to grace the 9 a.m. opening of the Football festival at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex.

Former Azkals team captain Mark Villon, who is a Zamboangueño, will also grace the event.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, who is a top football player during his younger days, said the conduct of the football festival will further promote the sport in the city.

The football festival will run from October 14 to 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it is open to anyone who loves the game, male or female.

The age groups are the following: Under 6 (mix 4 v 4); Under 8 (mix 4 v 4); Under 10 (mix 4 v 4); Under 13 (Boys); Under 17 (Boys); Open (Men and Women) and Masters (Men).

ZAMBOANGA. Cebu Pacific Air ground crew readies the A319 aircraft for the maiden flight's departure Friday from Sanga-Sanga airport, Tawi-Tawi back to Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia)

BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi -- Officials of this southernmost province foresee that the entry of Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) will boost economic development of this province.

Governor Sadikul Sahali said the entry of another airline company will further enhance the mobility of people and goods from and to this province.

Sahali was among the more than 100 passengers of CEB's maiden flight Friday from Zamboanga City.

Sahali said CEB's entry will boost the tourism industry since the visitors, both domestic and foreign, will have additional choice as to what airline firm they would take.

The Zamboanga-Tawi-Tawi route of CEB is being served by an A319 plane, which has 156 seating capacity and will fly on a tri-weekly schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Bongao Vice Mayor Leila Muharani Jumdail supports Sahali's statement, citing the growth of the tourism industry has long been delayed due to the non-availability of faster mobility and convenient mode of transportation.

Sahali said it will also boost the income of the fishermen since the entry of CEB provides additional faster mobility for them to transport fresh marine products to key cities in the country.

Agriculture, fishing, and seaweed farming are the leading source of livelihood of the people of this province, with quite a number engaged in the barter trade business.

Copra is the top agricultural produce, followed by root crops, fruits, and vegetables.

All the farmers and businessmen in this province will have to do is to establish business links to the other parts of the country, Sahali added.

Jumdail said the entry of another airline company to this province will also result to cheaper air fare since there will be competition between the stakeholders to attract more clients.

“We are very happy to inform you that this route will be serviced by our state-of-the-art Airbus A319 aircraft manufactured by the Airbus company in Toulouse, France. With its great efficiency and reliability, we are confident that the Airbus aircraft will greatly help in increase the accessibility of Zamboanga and Tawi-Tawi to more visitors, both local and foreign,” said CEB vice-president for Airport Services Jomar Rodriguez. As a gift to the Zamboanguenos, Mayor Celso Lobregat Tuesday night (Oct. 11) unveiled together with Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr., the multi-patterned fountain at the Plaza Pershing.

"Today is the eve of fiesta and it is just but appropriate that we give a gift to the people of Zamboanga," Mayor Lobregat declared during the turnover rites held amid drizzles.

The multi-patterned fountain, consisting of one precision coherent pulsating center jet, two revolving fountains and 6 arching jets, was the second of three fountains to be unveiled in the city’s landmarks. The first one, named laminar shooting jets fountain, was unveiled September 26 at Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca. The third one, a musically gyrating fountain is under construction at the Paseo del Mar and is set for inauguration in the next two months.

The multi-patterned fountain at Plaza Pershing was unveiled amid the drizzle October 11, eve of the feast of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar, as a gift to the Zamboanguenos by Mayor Celso Lobregat and Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. JOEY BAUTISTA

The unveiled fountain is only one of the features at Plaza Pershing now ongoing renovation. It will definitely add color and fascination to the tourist landmark. Renamed Plaza Perhing (from Plaza Salcedo) in 1915, the Plaza is undergoing rehabilitation for the first time.

Secretary Jimenez hailed the city government’s project saying Zamboanga City will lead the country in terms of color, excitement and energy. "You are very fortunate to have such a plaza at a time when people allow themselves to be discouraged by so many events around it, we see so much happiness and energy in Zamboanga".

"I am very proud to be here tonight and I expect to be back to see more exciting things in the days to come", the secretary continued to the loud applause of the crowd attending the turnover rites.

The turn over rites was preceded by the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon led by the DOT secretary and Mayor Lobregat, followed by the ceremonial switch on and the blessing officiated by Archbishop Valles.

Industron Inc. Vice President Robert Ciare, who supplied the fountains, turned over the facility to Mayor Lobregat who in turn, relegated the responsibility to administer and to take charge of the fountain’s operations to City Engineer Luis Despalo and General Services Officer Engr. Rene de La Cruz.

Also present during the unveiling ceremony were members of the City Council, visitors from San Mateo, Rizal led by Vice Mayor Bartolome Rivera Jr., former Cabinet member Paul Dominguez, DOT Undersecretary Victoria Jasmin, National Museum Director Jeremy Barnes and many others. (Sheila Covarrubias)

Believing that tourism serves as an engine for growth and development for every Filipino, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. Tuesday commended the local government under the leadership of Mayor Celso Lobregat for infusing so much time and investments in promoting the tourism potentials of Zamboanga City.

“I was impressed to hear that Mayor Lobregat is addressing the concerns for tourist destinations in Zamboanga. This is the first place anyone should come to. Zamboanga City has many things to offer,” said Sec. Jimenez, who visited the city for the first time October 11 to keynote the commemorative program highlighting this year’s Fiesta Hermosa at the JFE Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan.

Earlier on, he told a news conference that “the atmosphere around your city is so infectious and it is the kind of attitude I talk about a lot that I’ve spent my first month in office trying to convince people to believe in your country.”

“And I have come to a city where Filipinos already believe and that is very inspiring to me. Your mayor is living and breathing example of Filipino pride with very deep belief in the beauty of our country,” Jimenez, an expert in advertising and marketing communications, said.

“As I was telling Mayor Lobregat, I said, if you are going to start an important project you might as well start it in the most colorful city in the Philippines and that to my mind is Zamboanga City,” he further said.

With regard to the twin explosions here Sunday (Oct. 9), Jimenez said, “the incident was very unfortunate, but it was nothing to 800,000 Zamboangueños celebrating their history. There were only two blasts. There are 800,000 explosions of talents and goodwill in your city.”

He said “your beautiful image must be louder than your bad one and your mayor is in fact leading in that respect because your beautiful image, the images that you see on the streets are much louder than the bad image you think you had.”

“I am not saying it is not a problem, but that is very small compared to your blessings. So you have to talk and walk that way. There is much to be proud of and so much to make noise about Zamboanga,” Jimenez said, stressing that Zamboanga City is the center of Zamboanga Peninsula’s cluster of tourism. “It is very important to the future of tourism in the Philippines. I would not have come here if not for the fact that I want to dramatize that Zamboanga is very much in our plan for tourism development.”

“When we see a community coming together as you have, that is the kind of explosion that the world wants to see. We are far bigger than our trouble. . . Zamboanga City is way ahead of so many places in this country,” the new tourism secretary said as he advised Zamboangueños to behave that way.

“Do not allow people whose desire is for you to lose your enthusiasm for your own city. I have every confidence, when the people, the local government unit and business sector get together, nothing can stop you,” he told the Zamboangueños.

The secretary was not only visiting Zamboanga City for the first time but Zamboanga was also his first trip outside of Metro Manila since he assumed office last month. (Vic Larato)

Mayor Celso Lobregat has urged Zamboangueños to continue to draw inspiration from the spiritual message emerging from the feast of the Nuestra Señora la Virgen del Pilar, October 12.

"Mientras ta celebra kita el Fiesta Hermosa, rindi kita gracias con el Señor y con Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar por el proteccion y guia que ta dale le con el Ciudad de Zamboanga y maga residente aqui," the mayor said in his message during the Fiesta Hermosa commemorative program Tuesday (October 11) afternoon with Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. as guest of honor.

Despite inclement weather and other challenges, thousands of people turned up at Paseo del Mar for the grand fireworks display capping the socio-cultural events for Fiesta Hermosa 2011, Tuesday night. JOEY BAUTISTA

The City’s annual fiesta traces its roots to religious foundations and the mayor appealed anew for people to make the Fiesta Hermosa an occasion to reflect and strengthen devotion to La Virgen del Pilar and not to merely concentrate on the merriment and the excitement brought about by the socio-cultural activities for the fiesta.

"The city and the people are once again being challenged but we have been tried and tested many times before. Yes, these incidents have forced us to take one step backward, but let us take two, three, four and many more steps forward”, the mayor stressed citing the twin blasts that hit a San Roque cockpit and a Guiwan pension house Sunday.

He continued: "Let us not be perturbed, let us be undaunted and strong and united. Let us not let these incidents affect not only our Fiesta activities but our very lives itself."

He thanked the people for their firm faith, as he cited the 'jampacked' attendance in the 7 activities that happened the very night after the explosions.

Some 30,000 people—residents and visitors alike trooped to the Baliwasan grandstand October 11 to witness the colourful flower floats and the vivacious street dance presentations culminating the 2011Fiesta Hermosa Festival.

The spectacular entries and presentations of the participants in the floral float tilt and the street dance and showdown showcased the city’s colorful and rich multi-heritage and multi-culture that makes Zamboanga unique from other cities in the country and the entire Asia.

Themed “Fiesta Hermosa...Vamos a Zamboanga”, festival kicked off Oct. 1 with variety of events—some of which initiated by private groups. The city government organized events included the Cosechas de Zamboanga, Wow Zamboanga inter-cluster competition, Mascota competition, Mayor Celso Lobregat Table Tennis Tournament, art exhibits, 29th Chabacano song festival, Regatta 2011, Wow Sardinas-Year 5, Mayor Celso Lobregat Cup Golf Tournament, inauguration of the fountain at the Plaza Pershing and many others.

A colourful and dazzling fireworks display was staged 10pm at the Paseo del Mar Tuesday night (Oct. 11) capping the festivity and paving the way for the feast day of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar, October 12.

Activities on October 12 centered at the Fort Pilar Shrine. October 12 was a non-working holiday in Zamboanga.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lobregat thanked all the students, private groups, military and the police, national and local government agencies including the barangays and all the other sectors that participated in the different activities lined up for the Fiesta Hermosa especially during the culminating events yesterday.

He likewise expressed appreciation to the people who worked hard for the realization of the events.

For his part, Sec. Jimenez in his message highly praised Zamboanga for its steadfast efforts to promote the city as a tourism and investment area. He stressed that Tourism is the people’s business and urged Zamboanguenos to “let your beautiful image be louder than the bad one”.

"The twin blast is nothing compared to the 800,000 plus people and to the explosion of talents", he said assuring that Zamboanga City is included in DOT’s promotion plans. (Sheila Covarrubias)

DOT Secretary lauds city’s concern for Zambo’s tourism potentials (http://zamboanga.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4067:dot-secretary-lauds-citys-concern-for-zambos-tourism-potentials-&catid=111&Itemid=27)

Beng Climaco and National Museum director Jeremy Barnes happily pose for photo ops with Zamboanga City High School-main principal Feliza Munar and the trainor, whose entry bagged the street dance competition title Tuesday. JOEY BAUTISTA

 :applause: Secretary Jimenez, if ever you'll stumble upon SSC and read this post of mine , I would like to thank you for recognizing and complimenting our beloved city. :okay:

I suggest going to construction sites and talking to the engineer or contractor and make your proposal. If you're cheaper than their regular supplier maybe they'll switch or they will consider you on their next project and maybe tell their other friends who will be engineers too. Marketing by word of mouth, just need to set the right first impression. Just my 2 centavos worth. :)

Plaza Pershing’s multi-patterned fountain unveiled (http://zamboanga.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4064:plaza-pershings-multi-patterned-fountain-unveiled-&catid=111&Itemid=27)
Thursday, 13 October 2011 02:10

As a gift to the Zamboanguenos, Mayor Celso Lobregat Tuesday night (Oct. 11) unveiled together with Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr., the multi-patterned fountain at the Plaza Pershing.

"Today is the eve of fiesta and it is just but appropriate that we give a gift to the people of Zamboanga," Mayor Lobregat declared during the turnover rites held amid drizzles.

http://i56.tinypic.com/e969sy.jpg

Beng Climaco and National Museum director Jeremy Barnes happily pose for photo ops with Zamboanga City High School-main principal Feliza Munar and the trainor, whose entry bagged the street dance competition title Tuesday.

Airline entry will boost Tawi-Tawi's economy (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/zamboanga/local-news/2011/10/14/airline-entry-will-boost-tawi-tawis-economy-185063)

Arriola reveals holding of pre-bid conference for rebidding of IBT project

The Chairman of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) of the City Government of Zamboanga, Dr. Mario Arriola revealed that eight prospective bidders attended the Pre-Bid Conference for the rebidding of the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) on Thursday at the City Hall Conference Room.

Arriola said, “ya chene pre-bid conference, eight prospective bidders ya attende, chene local y de otro lugar.” (There was a pre-bid conference, eight prospective bidders attended, some local and some from other places.)

The pre-bid conference is in preparation for the opening of bids for the construction of the City’s IBT.

Arriola said that aside from him, all the other four BAC members, Atty. Samuel Mariano, Atty. Alexander Eric Elias, Engr. Rene dela Cruz and City Engr. Luis Vicente Despalo attended the conference.

The two local bidders who attended the pre-bid conference were 3VC-Vinhar (Joint Venture) and the Bendimill Construction. The other participants included Dacay Construction Development Inc., Vicente Lao Construction, Young Builders, ITP Construction Inc., IZUMO Construction Inc., and RR Encabo.

According to Arriola, after the pre-bid conference, the prospective bidders will submit their respective papers and their bids will be evaluated.

Recall, the original bidding for the IBT was held about two years ago. However, after a loosing bidder, Dimson Construction of Manila, filed a case with the Ombudsman against several city officials including Mayor Celso Lobregat, the award given to the winning bidder was recalled by the city government. This prompted the winning bidder to also file a case against some city officials. Both cases are still pending resolution.

The modern Bus Terminal for Zamboanga City amounting to P179 Million will be located at Barangay Divisoria.

Celso cheers Cebu Pacific on new route (http://www.zambotimes.com/archives/38608-Celso-cheers-Cebu-Pacific-on-new-route.html)
Saturday, October 15. 2011
by Sheila Covarrubias

Mayor Celso Lobregat Friday cited Cebu Pacific’s (CEB) new Zamboanga-Tawi-tawi route as a very important milestone not only for the airline but for Zamboanga City and the province of Tawi-tawi.

“We are very happy and appreciative that Cebu Pacific opened this route”, the mayor said during the very early morning launch of the Zamboanga-Tawi-tawi route Friday at the airport. He stressed that the airline company’s expansion of operations will definitely bring about numerous benefits to the city and help boost the city’s promotional efforts.

While it launched the Zamboanga-Tawi-tawi route early Friday morning, the airline company also launched the Ilo-ilo-Cagayan de Oro route Friday afternoon in a bid to increase accessibility of the areas concerned to more visitors both foreign and local.

All routes will be serviced by CEB’s state of the art airbus 319 or A319 at all time low fare rates.

“Since you will be opening the Ilo-ilo-Cagayan de Oro route this afternoon, we would also like to challenge you to open the Zamboanga-Cagayan de Oro route and further, we are also asking Cebu Pacific to seriously look into the possibility of opening the Zamboanga-Sandakan flights”, the mayor said in his message.

He hailed the airline company for being a very reliable airline that is utilizing modern aircrafts. He said expanding its network from Zamboanga to Malaysia will encourage traffic between this city and Sandakan and will help bring about more benefits not only to the airline but also to the concerned areas and the nearby cities and provinces.

Department of Tourism Regional Director Maryjune Bugante also commended Cebu Pacific on its new route saying it will be a great opportunity not only for Zamboanga City but Tawi-tawi to boost tourism.

She stressed that her office has been receiving a lot of queries on how to go to Tawi-tawi and that this new development courtesy of CEB will help boost tourism in Tawi-tawi particularly the Turtle Island.

For his part, Airport Manager Celso Bayabos said the new route will open more commercial cargo and ensure comfort and ease to passengers to and from Zamboanga and Tawi-tawi.

He said the opening of the new route will bring economic benefits to both Zamboanga and Tawi-tawi, as he revealed plans of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to rehabilitate the Sanga-sanga Airport in Tawi-tawi to better serve the public.

CEB officials said it has been the mission and vision of the airline since its inception in 1996 to “bring travel closer to people by offering affordable rates and by linking islands and destinations through transportation”.

Cebu Pacific flies to 16 international destinations and 34 local destinations at present.

Also present during the launching of the Zamboanga-Tawi-tawi flight yesterday morning were Councilors Rey Candido and Percival Ramos, Cebu Pacific officials and staff and representatives from various sectors.

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. the other day exhorted Zamboangueños not to allow people whose desire is for the residents to lose enthusiasm for the city as he expressed confidence that nothing can stop the good efforts when the citizens, the local government unit and the business sector get their act together.

“When we see a community coming together as you have, that is the kind of explosion that the world wants to see. We are far bigger than our trouble. . . Zamboanga City is way ahead of so many places in this country,” the new tourism secretary said as he advised Zamboangueños to behave that way.

The secretary was very impressed with the manner the residents responded to the numerous activities during the Fiesta amid the inclement weather condition and the incidents prior to the fiesta.

“The incident was very unfortunate, but it was nothing to 800,000 Zamboangueños celebrating their history. There were only two blasts. There are 800,000 explosions of talents and goodwill in your city”, the secretary said referring to the twin explosions at a San Roque cockpit and a pension house in Guiwan Sunday (Oct. 9).

He continued: “I am not saying it is not a problem, but that is very small compared to your blessings. So you have to talk and walk that way. There is much to be proud of and so much to make noise about Zamboanga,” Jimenez said.

He stressed that Zamboanga City is the center of Zamboanga Peninsula’s cluster of tourism. “It is very important to the future of tourism in the Philippines. I would not have come here if not for the fact that I want to dramatize that Zamboanga is very much in our plan for tourism development.”

He likewise cited Mayor Celso Lobregat for infusing so much time and investments in promoting the tourism potentials of Zamboanga City.

“I was impressed to hear that Mayor Lobregat is addressing the concerns for tourist destinations in Zamboanga. This is the first place anyone should come to. Zamboanga City has many things to offer”, he said adding: “Do not allow people whose desire is for you to lose your enthusiasm for your own city. I have every confidence, when the people, the local government unit and business sector get together, nothing can stop you”.

In a press conference before proceeding to the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports complex for the commemorative program, he said: “your beautiful image must be louder than your bad one and your mayor is in fact leading in that respect because your beautiful image, the images that you see on the streets are much louder than the bad image you think you had.”

“Do not allow people whose desire is for you to lose your enthusiasm for your own city. I have every confidence, when the people, the local government unit and business sector get together, nothing can stop you,” he told the Zamboangueños.

Secretary Jimenez was the city’s guest of honor during the culminating program of Fiesta Hermosa 2011 last Tuesday, October 11. Not only was he visiting Zamboanga for the first time, it was also his first visit to a city outside of Metro Manila since his appointment a month ago.

2 Azkals inspire Zambo football enthusiasts (http://www.zambotimes.com/archives/38610-2-Azkals-inspire-Zambo-football-enthusiasts.html)
by Sheila Covarrubias
Saturday, October 15. 2011

Participants and spectators to the Zamboanga Football Festival had their grand time yesterday, as they got to see face to face with two members of the country’s pride Azkals.

Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta happily shared their time with the football enthusiasts during the clinic. They also accorded their fans the opportunity to have photo ops as well as signing of autographs.

Mayor Celso Lobregat thanked Philippine Air Force Chief LtGen. Oscar Rabena for facilitating the visit of the two Azkals members, who are also PAF members. He stressed that football is already a popular sport in the city but it gained a new level of popularity after Azkals burst into the football scene.

“There is so much good news and positive things to say about today”, the mayor, who was a top football player in his younger days said. “We would like to thank both Chieffy and Ian for coming over and I also thank LTGen. Rabena for bringing two of the Azkals members to Zamboanga”.

He said he made it sure to be at the grandstand yesterday morning “because the truth is football is really in my blood” and revealed that football was his first love. He briefly recounted how he became the team captain of the Ateneo NCCA and later named as athlete of the year in 1968.

“I am not telling all these to promote myself but because we want our youth to start playing sports at a young age, we want our children to spend more time in the soccer field in the basketball court than going out of school and then being in the internet café. We have to go back to basics and make sure that our youth love sports and play sports”, he added.

For his part, LTGen. Rabena expressed elation over the enthusiasm of the young to participate in the Football Festival owing it to Mayor Lobregat’s love for football. “Ako ay nalulugod na naririto kayo at nasisiyahan na makitang buhay na buhay ang football dito sa Zamboanga at hindi ako nagtataka dahil ang mayor ng Zamboanga ay isa ring football player”.

He likewise enjoined all youth to be serious in sports and studies instead of engaging in vices and other negative energies. He also expressed full support to the football program in Zamboanga.

The Zamboanga Football Festival formed part of the 2011 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival and was jointly sponsored by the Philippine Air Force, City Government of Zamboanga, Zamboanga Football Federation and the Globe Telecom in cooperation with Nature’s Spring, Pepsi, Councilor Rommel Agan, Department of Tourism-9 and Councilor Rogelio Valesco Jr.

The event runs from October 14-14 at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex and is a recreational tournament divided into brackets defined by gender and age.

Over 50 teams coming from different parts of the city including the American forces are participating in the festival.

Also present during the opening program yesterday were Councilors Rey Candido, Perival Ramos, Rudy Lim and Rommel Agan; 3rd Air Division Chief MGEN. Tony Villarete, 530th Air Base Wing chief Col. Emeraldo Magnaye, City Police OIC Director Col. Edwin de Ocampo, Zamboanga Football Association president Erwin Bernardo and several others.

Kainis man. EQV lang gamit ng Zest Air MNL-ZAM v.v. :ohno:

Diba ang meaning ng EQV eh 'Equipment Varies'? So baka either A319 or A320? Parang masyado kasing malayo ang Manila para sa turboprop. :)

Anyway, may mga rebars na sa Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center site. Almost buong lot na yung nahukayan, kasama na ata yung area nung billboard. :okay:
