BIR IX lauds City Gov't for prompt remittance of taxes (http://www.zamboangatoday.ph/index.php/news/13-top-stories/8973--bir-lauds-city-govt-for-prompt-remittance-of-taxes.html)

The Bureau of Internal Revenue IX (BIR IX) Regional office in Zamboanga City has lauded the City Government headed by Mayor Celso Lobregat for its prompt remittance of taxes.

BIR IX Regional Director, Atty. Albert Alocilja said, “For Zamboanga City, they are religiously paying, wala tayong nakikitang problema sa tax compliance.”
According to Alocilja, the City Government remitted P7,576,893.49 worth of taxes in January and P6,685,489.47 in February.

The taxes remitted by the city government includes withholding taxes of employees and taxes from the projects being implemented by the City Government.
The Regional Director said this will help in the attainment of their P3.744 Billion target collection for BIR IX.

another musical gyrating fountain to be built at Lorenzo Ballfield Pasonanca (near Paseo del Jardin). THis time, it is two times grander than what's being built at Paseo del Mar. ;)

This is a 50-millon worth big-ticket project of our good D1 Congresswoman Beng Climaco-Salazar. Opens to public in 2013.

Gravel, sands and pipelines are now in place for the cunstrutction.

Meanwhile, The grand fountain in Paseo del Mar is targeted to open on March 18, Sunday.

Just keep posted for updates.

House Deputy Speaker and District I Representative Beng Climaco unveils and turns over today, the renovated barangay hall of Ayala, as she pursues with more vigor her efforts to bring about development in the west coast and other parts of the city.

Costing P1 million, the project is part of the priority programs of Barangay Ayala and based on consultations done in the area the past months.
The project funding is taken from Cong. Climaco’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).

The renovation work includes repainting and repair of the barangay hall’s ceiling.

Mayor Celso Lobregat has revealed that the Gyrating Musical Dancing Fountain located inside the Paseo del Mar is now more than 80% finished. Lobregat said “They are working even at night because they want to make sure that they are within the contract period. We expect it to be finished by end of this month or April.”

The Mayor explained that on the contract of the fountain, the notice to proceed was given to the contractor on the end of September and the contract period is for 150 days. However, there were some suspensions on the work due to the weather condition.

It's cool to have a large high-end fountain at paseo del mar.

What I am particularly referring to is the one that is in pasonanca, the (50 million) daw. Which is a complete waste of fund. (If it is true).

Shateen Searaña, who has been assigned in Barangay Taluksangay for a year now, bested nine other finalists from all over the country.
As winner, she will be the Philippine representative in the Asia Pacific competition scheduled in Auckland, New Zealand from March 20 to 22.
As this developed, Mayor Celso Lobregat expressed elation over Searaña’s feat and commended her innovation on mangrove planting, a topic that is very crucial in the face of serious global challenges specifically climate change.

Councilor Abdurahman Nuño, Taluksangay barangay chairman and Liga ng mga Barangay president and his wife, Councilor Lilia, proudly presented Searaña, who was accompanied by her co-teachers and students, to Lobregat on Thursday afternoon in City Hall.
As one of the incentives for Searaña, Lobregat committed to provide additional allocation for the Summer Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) slots this year to help accelerate mangrove planting in the coastal village of Taluksangay.

Taluksangay is a coastal and Muslim-dominated barangay located 19 kilometers east of this city.
Lobregat also gave the teacher a cash incentive and re-affirmed the city government’s all out support to mangrove planting.
The SPES project has multi-pronged objectives but ultimately intends to develop communication skills of students using various communications media by engaging them to conduct community extension activities that address a relevant issue which is rampant disregard for the environment, specifically cutting down of mangrove trees.

The project involved students and parents of various Muslim tribes--Samal, Yakan, Tausug and Badjao.
Despite limited technology, the students were able to document their project and did seminars on mangrove planting in the community which led to greater awareness on coastline rehabilitation through mangrove planting.

The impact that the project made on the lives and values of community members earned the judges’ nod.
Searaña said the project is an output of a seminar-training program on project-based learning (PBL) approaches held at the behest of the Coalition for Better Education (CBE), a Cebu-based organization.

PBL approaches focus on collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to learning using the 21st century skills as bases for learning competencies.
This training program is conducted annually by CBE in partnership with Globe Telecom and the Department of Education (DepEd).
As part of the project, the students developed a website: www.taluksangaynhs.multiply.com and www.facebook.com to collaborate with other students in the country and even abroad.

City Mayor Celso Lobregat has called on officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to coordinate with each other in the implementation of a P300 million by-pass road in this city.
The proposed road will begin at Culianan barangay, some 16 kilometers from the city proper and will cut through the watershed and end up at Ayala Barangay some 20 kilometers west of the city.

The city’s watershed actually starts at Pasonanca barangay that is just about 14 kilometers from City Hall. Thus, to cut a straight line from Culianan to Ayala will mean a cut through the watershed.

Earlier District I Congresswoman Maria Isabel Climaco said the road will be funded with money from the national government since the local government does not have that much money for the project.

She said such a road will provide fast and easy travel between these two parts of the city without having to pass through the heart of the city.
The mayor called the attention of these two agencies after a public hearing held at the city council last week resulted in arguments.
In that hearing , Environment Management Bureau (MGB) Chief Sixto Tolentino said that the DPWDH survey and planning for the road were undertaken without consultation with the DENR.

The EMB regional office said the DPWH is conducting the survey without any clearance from the DENR.
Tolentino said that initial reports show that the proposed road will cross the city’s watershed. “We will never allow any road to cross the watershed,” he stressed.
The DPWH reported to the city council that surveyors have already completed about 90 percent of their survey for the proposed road. The DPWH also said that it is about 40 percent completed in planning for the project.

Tolentino said information received showed that the road will cut through the watershed and that this cannot happen because there are laws that ban the opening of roads through the watershed.

At present, vehicles from the east coast of the city have to proceed to the city proper before going towards the west coastal barangays, where the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Free Port Authority , 11 sardine canneries, and plywood factories are located.
The industrial areas in the east coast of the city include the Zamboanga Fishing Port Complex, Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative as well as big fishponds and farms in the area.

The east coast highway also links the city to all other parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula and other parts of Mindanao, while the western highway reaches only up to the border with Zamboanga del Norte.

The mayor said that this DENR-DPWH controversy as to the location or where the road will pass must be resolved or the project will not be pursued.

The Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative has warned its 100,000 power consumers of brownouts that will last from four to eight hours a day in the next few months.
The city has been experiencing regular blackouts everyday since early this year.

Zamcelco Board Member Bong Atilano said that “the worse blackout to come will be late March or April, next month.”
The Zamcelco did not release the schedule of blackout because it will depend on the delivery of power supply coming from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) plants in Iligan, he said.

Atilano said the current blackout of one to two hours twice a day is a big problem not only in Zamboanga City but in other areas of Mindanao.
Atilano disclosed there is a shortage of 27 megawatts in the city's daily consumption of between 78-84 MWs as the cooperative is only receiving 50-70 MWs since December 2011.

Atilano said Zamcelco is still in the process of entering into a contract with Therma Marine Corporation (TMI) and this is already delayed because of the series of debates on the subject.

Atilano said that Zamcelco has already filed its petition for increase of power rates with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for the expected rate increase in the event the cooperative buys electricity from another source.

Currently, the cooperative is buying electricity from the NGCP and PISAN at the rate of P4 per kilowatt hour. He said that TMI is selling electricity at P11 to P12 per kilowatt hour.

Taken all together, he said the cost of electricity in Zamboanga can increase by about 82 centavos per KWH.

nag-iisa lng ang Early Birds sa pagbenta ng Shawarma sa putik dba...??? so far wala pang nkaTalo sa knila (I think).... they've open a branch sa Plaza Pilar, pro pangit ung location dun... sana nag build nlng cla ng own building malapit sa fort Pilar.. o sa loob ng paseo kya.. pwde..??

Actually, here in Zamboanga, they do. Most of the big businessmen here have accounts in almost all banks (universal/commercial, savings or rural). Even big banks now resort to offering low or even zero maintaining balance accounts just to be able to attract low or average income earners who usually bank with rural banks. When I was still connected with a universal bank, we had difficulty convincing big clients to transfer their time deposits maintained in rural banks because of the high interest rates offered by rural banks. Rural banks now do not cater only to small time businessmen. Big businesses here in Zamboanga are now banking with rural banks. ONB is one good example of this. :)

Hopefully they would but these 2 medium sized commercial banks are not that aggresive when it comes to branch expansion. Perhaps they're just cautious or cost conscious since a branch license costs more or less 20 million pesos. Only big banks who acquired other banks are aggresively expanding since they have also acquired the branch licenses of the banks they bought or merged with and they can use these to open up branches in unrestricted locations anywhere in the country. :)

Manny Pangilinan was supposed to lend fund for the construction of the proposed ADZU hospital. I think this verbal 'agreement' was made in 2009 when he came to the Ateneo to deliver a speech for the college graduates, one year before the controversy regarding his 'unoriginal speech' delivered before ADMU graduates erupted. No word regarding Pangilinan's intention of lending funds for the hospital has been heard since. Several people speculate that this has something to do with both schools baring the name 'Ateneo', so the unlikable act done by one radiates to all the other.

A letter addressed to all the students' parents and guardians was released by the Ateneo Grade School one to two years ago asking their opinion on different points that will be of great importance once the grade school will be relocated to Kreutz Campus. The letter stated that the grade school building will be constructed or will be opened by 2013. A contradicting statement was released by University President Fr. Moreno a couple of weeks later stating that the university still doesn't have funds for the construction of the grade school building.

A four-storey building, to be named Fr Jose Ma Rosauro SJ Hall, will be constructed by April this year at the Ateneo La Purisima Campus (soon to be formally named Fr. Eusebio Salvador SJ Campus). Another four-storey building is proposed to replace the St. Peter Claver Building still at La Purisima.

The construction of the covered courts at the Kreutz Campus is certainly part of the university's preparations for the upcoming Jesuit Invitation Games which will be hosted by ADZU and will be held simultaneously with the Centennial Ateneo Fiesta. The Ateneo Fiesta will be in La Purisima while JIG will be in Tumaga.

Just to expand my idea. I was particularly referring to the TARGET market. Each bank has products and services particularly targeting a certain market segment/niche. You were referring about the personal PREFERENCE of the client. What product(s)/service(s) to avail.

I agree with ONB, for an example, they are used as a payroll release for factory workers particularly in Ayala (I think). But I don't know regarding large deposits...

In my opinion, putting large deposits in rural banks are risky.

Regarding time deposits, sa ngayon... lugi ata tayo sa time deposit sa universal banks kasi ang liit pa ng interest lugi pa sa inflation rate...

If that is excess money, rather than time deposits invest it in Government Bonds, Equity Bonds, Appreciating Tangible Assets such as Gold or Real Estate or other investments yielding from average to high earning/interest and bearing low to none risks.

The Department of Energy, hard pressed to address the looming power crisis in Mindanao, has favorably endorsed the operation of a 100 megawatt coal fired power plant in Zamboanga City.

The power plant, to be built by San Ramon Power, Inc. will be located at the Zamboanga Economic Zone in San Ramon and will supply power directly to the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative.

In an endorsement letter, signed by Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras last November 11th, 2011, the DOE disclosed the 100 megawatt ‘Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) coal-fired power station is consistent with the Power Development Plan of the government in allowing Independent power producers ( IPPs) to play a bigger role in the energy sector development program of the government to address the increased power requirements of the country.

It's just an ordinary one storey building perhaps palibhasa malilit ang mga steel bars na ginamit tulad ng residential. It can be seen from Mang Tinapay.

I'm not certain about that but it could be, or it could be much bigger. I measured through Google Earth the perimeters of the court area of the MPCC and the courts in Tumaga, and found that the courts in Tumaga seem to be relatively bigger.

THE local government has acquired a brand new six-wheeler truck for use in disaster response, rescue and other operations in Zamboanga City to enhance the delivery of social services.

Mayor Celso Lobregat formally turned over the Isuzu Canter truck to City Social Welfare and Development Officer (CSWDO) Francisco Barredo on Wednesday, a few minutes after it was delivered by the supplier.

Barredo said the brand new truck worth P1.5 million will augment the five-year-old open truck assigned to his office.

Barredo said the new vehicle will be used for various purposes, including disaster response and operations, transport support for indigents, rescue operations, rounding up of street children and mendicants, as well as transport of deportees, among others.

The funding for the purchase of the vehicle was taken from the capital outlay of the Barredo's office.

The CSWDO is an agency that provides quality interventions and opportunities to the disadvantaged sector in Zamboanga City through community organization, among others.

Last December, the CSWDO unveiled its newly constructed two-storey building inside the government complex in Pettit Barracks, also intended to help accelerate the delivery of social services.

Social services get the highest allocation at 40 percent representing P857 million of the total budget this year.

it seems.. that our local gov. is doing a great task in delaying the IBT... because the fountain at the Paseo plus next future fountain would actually give extra funding for the IBT...(or rather extra noise in their pockets)...

^^dapat talaga tutukan ng LGU yan wag na yung mga fountain na hindi importanteng bagay, yung dating Pings Commercials tama binago ng city Govt pero sana may mas malaki pa aside from IBT projects na syper delay na...more roads, and more in infrastructure like schools buildings, parking mall and etc.
pwede rin sana sila gagawa ng flyover pero mas maganda if si Erbie ang mag bigay ng budget ng flyover para may ilalagay siya sa flyover na amor con amor se bula na flyover:lol:

A TOTAL of P4 million has been set aside for the rehabilitation and improvement of the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club in Zamboanga City.

Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) officer-in-charge for Zamboanga City Romy Urian said half of the amount was allocated by second district Representative Erico Basilio Fabian while the remaining half by Tieza Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid.

Urian said Lapid recently sent a team to Zamboanga City to draw up a priority listing of projects to be implemented by Tieza this year at the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club.

The beach park will also be rehabilitated with more amenities planned to improve its surroundings aside from the rehabilitation of the historic golf course, Urian said.

The Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, which was established in 1910 when the Philippines was an American territory, is the oldest golf course in the country.

It is located in the village of Upper Calarian, west of the city.

Also included for rehabilitation is the access road to the golf course and the beach park, he said.

Meanwhile, Urian said more projects will be implemented in the city after Lapid has declared Zamboanga as one of Tieza's priority for development. (Bong Garcia)
