ohh by the way i passed pla kanina sa camins papuntang GSIS again..and nsa 30% i think ang construction ng GOH sa 5th floor..kpag nsa airport ka kla mo kung mall or mega structure meron doon kc pahaba sya...then when i passed also in the AIRPORT ung ASIAN SPIRIT OFFICE pinalitan na ng ZEST AIRWAYS...well pumasok din ako doon hbang may time kla mo kung bibili ng ticket..jejeje nag ask me if they have an international flight going to MALAYSIA nor other asian countries...sabi nga babae ang flight nila from zamboanga ay isa plamang the route is ZAMBOANGA to CEBU once a day...and then sa first quarter of 2009 they will resume their flights from ZAMBOANGA to JOLO and TAWI-TAWI....may naricieve daw clang rumors that ZEST AIR has a proposal to resume their route from ZAMBOANGA to KOTA KINABALU and then ang ZEST daw ang magtatake over ng ZAMBO to COTABATO route....well hindi pa sya sure but sna matuloy nga kung ano ang sabi ng LADY IN GREEN...^_^

there are 2 pink sand islands in Zambo the Little Sta.Cruz Island and the Great Sta.Cruz Island ..i think yang pinapakita sa pic ung sa middle is the Little Sta. Cruz...this 2 islands has a big potential to boom like Boracay and puerto gallera...if i were a government official i will salute this project sna mag lagay cla ang 2lanes ng Bridge from Zambo to Great Sta. Cruz Island pra maenganyo ang mga investor na mag invest doon kc mabilis na ang transportation going there and then for the 2nd Phase from Sta.cruz island going to Basilan..it would do a great history in the philippines..tulad nlang ng JAPAN..interconnection lhat ng isla nila na malapit sa booming cities...

ARMM wants to lease ZC convention center?

The City Council, during its regular session yesterday, passed a resolution strongly objecting the plan of the Philippines Tourism Authority (PTA) to offer the Zamboanga Convention Center in Pasonanca for lease to any party.


During the session, Councilor Gerky Valesco informed the Council about a newspaper advertisement announcing that PTA is now opening to any party interested to occupy and use the Convention Center under lease contract.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Jimmy Cabato, also requested Mayor Celso Lobregat exhaust all legal steps to stop PTA from leasing the property.
The resolution came amid unconfirmed reports claiming that the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is interested to lease the convention center presumably for its satellite office.
During the deliberation on the resolution, Councilor Charlie Mariano said that a reliable source told him that ARMM has signified its intention to lease the convention center.
“If we can not stop PTA from leasing it to the ARMM government, Pasonanca will be worse than Cabatangan,” Mariano said.
Mariano added that the city must take immediate steps to possess and manage the convention center before it is taken over by an entity like ARMM.
“It will be our worse nightmare if we do nothing to save it from the ARMM, which has been trying to get it,” Mariano warned.
Councilor Valesco said his research revealed that the convention center was built in the late 70s with three signatories appeared as owners of the property -- the city government as owner of the lot, PTA, which constructed the building and provided facilities inside and the then Office of the Regional Center headed by former Southern Command Commander General Romulo Espaldon.
In the past few years, the city government has not introduced any development to the edifice making it a “white elephant.”
Since the city government owns the property, the publication made by PTA for its lease without proper consultation with other concerned government agencies was illegal, said District 2 Councilor Eddie Saavedra.
For his part, Valesco, who chairs the Council’s Committee on Tourism, advised the City Administrator’s Office and the City Tourism Office to come up with activities that will be held at the convention center.

At least put up a decent resort that wouldn’t destroy the beauty of the island similar to pearl farm, dos palmas, malapascua etc instead of putting up cheaply constructed graffiti filled cottages similar to what the city has in Zamboanga city golf course beach. The island has a lot of potential. It may not be the best but DOT can do something to make it at least worth visiting.

The city should also start preserving or at least revive: Zamboanga City Cultural center, Zamboanga Plaza Hotel, Pastor Bonus Seminary, Curcillo House in Barua St.,Zamboanga golf country club, the old Burleigh, brent hospital, Zamboanga general hospital, pettit barrack, the sunken garden etc.

Twe zamboangenos should also have a sense of pride instead of discouraging people to visit our city just because:
1. we don’t have enough malls
2. we don’t have enough bars and coffee shop

Avian influenza test facility opens in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A bird flu laboratory testing facility has been opened in the city.

Oscar O. Parawan, regional director the Department of Agriculture, said the Regional Avian Influenza Diagnostic Laboratory is the third in the country and second in Mindanao. Other similar facilities are in the cities of Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

He said the P7-million laboratory was set up here since the city, along with key areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula, is a migratory bird path and transit point of smuggled birds from countries that have been affected by the virus.

The Philippines has maintained its bird flu-free status.

Located in Tumaga village, Mr. Parawan said the facility would boost Mindanao’s positioning as a supplier of halal poultry products within the Brunei-Indonesia- Malaysia-Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), Mr. Parawan said.

Halal is a Muslim manufacturing process, while BIMP-EAGA is an economic subgroup of the 10 members Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Dr. Davinio P. Catbagan, director of the Bureau of Animal Industry, said the laboratory, a joint project with the Japanese government, "can detect accurately, precisely and quickly the presence of avian influenza in the country."

Mr. Parawan said there would be at least three experts who will man the laboratory.

Zamboanga Peninsula is among the top 20 priority areas being monitored by the National Avian Influenza Task Force, Department of Agriculture records show. The region was described as a "vulnerable spot" because of its proximity to Malaysia and Indonesia, which had confirmed bird flu cases.

The region’s Veterinary Quarantine Office has also beefed up its measures in checking poultry passing through every seaport and airport in the region.

ARMM wants to lease ZC convention center?

The City Council, during its regular session yesterday, passed a resolution strongly objecting the plan of the Philippines Tourism Authority (PTA) to offer the Zamboanga Convention Center in Pasonanca for lease to any party.


During the session, Councilor Gerky Valesco informed the Council about a newspaper advertisement announcing that PTA is now opening to any party interested to occupy and use the Convention Center under lease contract.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Jimmy Cabato, also requested Mayor Celso Lobregat exhaust all legal steps to stop PTA from leasing the property.
The resolution came amid unconfirmed reports claiming that the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is interested to lease the convention center presumably for its satellite office.
During the deliberation on the resolution, Councilor Charlie Mariano said that a reliable source told him that ARMM has signified its intention to lease the convention center.
“If we can not stop PTA from leasing it to the ARMM government, Pasonanca will be worse than Cabatangan,” Mariano said.
Mariano added that the city must take immediate steps to possess and manage the convention center before it is taken over by an entity like ARMM.
“It will be our worse nightmare if we do nothing to save it from the ARMM, which has been trying to get it,” Mariano warned.
Councilor Valesco said his research revealed that the convention center was built in the late 70s with three signatories appeared as owners of the property -- the city government as owner of the lot, PTA, which constructed the building and provided facilities inside and the then Office of the Regional Center headed by former Southern Command Commander General Romulo Espaldon.
In the past few years, the city government has not introduced any development to the edifice making it a “white elephant.”
Since the city government owns the property, the publication made by PTA for its lease without proper consultation with other concerned government agencies was illegal, said District 2 Councilor Eddie Saavedra.
For his part, Valesco, who chairs the Council’s Committee on Tourism, advised the City Administrator’s Office and the City Tourism Office to come up with activities that will be held at the convention center.

At least put up a decent resort that wouldn’t destroy the beauty of the island similar to pearl farm, dos palmas, malapascua etc instead of putting up cheaply constructed graffiti filled cottages similar to what the city has in Zamboanga city golf course beach. The island has a lot of potential. It may not be the best but DOT can do something to make it at least worth visiting.

The city should also start preserving or at least revive: Zamboanga City Cultural center, Zamboanga Plaza Hotel, Pastor Bonus Seminary, Curcillo House in Barua St.,Zamboanga golf country club, the old Burleigh, brent hospital, Zamboanga general hospital, pettit barrack, the sunken garden etc.

Twe zamboangenos should also have a sense of pride instead of discouraging people to visit our city just because:
1. we don’t have enough malls
2. we don’t have enough bars and coffee shop

Zamboanga City was certain to operate anytime soon, and the Arabic-language call center is still in the grapevine, said Gaspar Gayona, regional director of the Technical Education Skills Development Administration (Tesda).
The entry of the non-English language call centers in Mindanao came amid forecast that the business process outsourcing (BPO) activities in the southern Philippines, including call-center operations, would continue to soar.
Gayona said the Spanish call center in Zamboanga was only awaiting the renovation of its site and would operate soon. “This will cater to clients in Latin America and Spain.”
“I heard that the call center would get higher pay for its services than the English call centers,” he said.

As far as I know, the only tall hotel buildings currently under construction in Mindanao are Central Park Hotel (12F, Davao City) and Garden Orchid Hotel (11F, Zamboanga City).

Zamboanga is really stamping its class as one of the two major cities in Mindanao. :)
a low key and very underrated important city in mindanao. forumers here should brave and weather out unfair security image nad perceptions. the potential is enormous imo. population is nearing metropolitan level. and becomes next metropolis. theyre overshadowed by hypes of other places. good thing i like, there are real action on the ground. that at the end of counting day, there are real highrise buildings at 10 levels a nd abouve to count and see. its next to davao in terms of income(2007)

Fabian presents to BFP‘penetrator’ fire truck

Congressman Erbie Fabian yesterday morning officially turned over a ‘penetrator’ fire truck to City Fire Marshal Supt. Jaime Ramirez at the Zamboanga City Bureau of Fire and Protection Office along Mayor Jaldon Street, this city.

Fabian disclosed that the fire vehicle was released by the Department of Interior and Local Government through his strong representation with the said national office.
According to Fabian, out of 250 congressmen in the House of Representatives, only six requests were accommodated. “My request was number two.”
The congressman said that the department has also granted his other request for an additional six fire personnel to augment the present fire fighting force.
Fabian called on the fire bureau to live up to their mandate in protecting the city from conflagration.
He also vowed to turn over either this month or early next year sets of fire fighting equipment to be distributed to the different fire sub-stations to enhance its fire fighting capabilities.
Meanwhile, Ramirez stressed that the performance of their office in fighting fire is dependent on the equipment and other modern gadget it has.
“I thank Congressman Fabian because out of 50 fire trucks the national office have distributed throughout the country, we were able to acquire one fire truck through the strong request of our congressman,” Ramirez pointed out.
The congressman had also allocated funds for the shipment of the fire vehicle to this city, he added.
Ramirez at the same time turned over the fire truck to Tetuan barangay chairman Felipe Natividad which will be housed at the fire sub station in that community.
Natividad expressed gratitude to Fabian and Ramirez adding that the fire truck is a great help in warding off fire not only for Tetuan but other barangays such as Tugbungan, Arena Blanco, Mampang, Talon Talon, Sta. Catalina and Guiwan which fall under the area of jurisdiction of the Tetuan sub station.
“Thank you congressman for this advance Christmas gift to the people of Tetuan,” Natividad said.
Also present in the turn over was Councilor Cesar Jimenez Jr. (Nonong Santiago)

IMO, every city, deserves to be called as premiere cities, but because of the image of mindanao... it hinders the massive development of cities in mindanao...
which is what I don't understand exactly... If crime and violence makes them think twice, IMO again, mindanao's crime rate is almost equivalent to metro manila's(excluding armm)

club ultima is a club inside crown regency...and its not a roller coaster...its edge coaster.. :>...actually this building looks ugly (for me) if you see it closely...i was at the 15th floor of metrobank plaza, i saw the building upclose...their pool is SO cute(as in maliit) and madumi... and i think something's wrong with the foundation..me diggings kasi sila sa right side ng building and a huge part of the groundwork is exposed...tsktsk...but the idea of the edgecoaster is cool! im actually planning to ride it maybe january:>

Consultation participants favor 3rd district creation

Majority of the more than 200 persons who attended a consultation held last Friday at the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial School Gymnasium favor the creation of a third congressional district for Zamboanga City, a press release said yesterday.

The press release quoted Congresswoman Beng Climaco, who initiated the consultation, to have said that she was overwhelmed by the reactions given by the participants during the open forum. She reportedly said that what she heard was more than enough to convince her that indeed, the majority of those who attended the consultation want to have a 3rd congressional district.

The same press release quoted WMSU College of Law Dean, Atty. Eduardo Sanson, to have said that there is no doubt Zamboanga City is already qualified and entitled to have a 3rd congressional district. He said that the constitution clearly states that one congressional representative should be given for every 250,000 population. Sanson added that since the city of Zamboanga already have a population of more than 750,000, then it is just fair if we choose to avail of our constitutional right to have an additional representative in congress.

Vice Mayor Mannix Dalipe also was quoted to have said that the creation of the 3rd congressional district must push through because "the beneficiaries here will be the present and the future generations of Zamboanga city. Dalipe said that the politicians who oppose the creation of the 3rd district should not just think of their own future political plans but rather the benefits that the city will have with three representatives in congress.

“We will have stronger lobbying power by having three voices in Congress. From P140 million, the city will have 210 million pesos worth of Priority Development Assistance Fund per year. In ten years, the city will have 2.1 billion pesos”, Dalipe stressed.

The Vice mayor revealed that the province of Cebu already has 6 congressional districts. They are now asking for 1 more. The city of Cebu presently has 2 districts, they are also asking for 1 more. If their bill will pass, Cebu will have a total of 10 representatives in congress. He added that Cavite presently have 3 congressional districts, they are asking for additional 4 districts so they can have 7 representatives in Congress.

“If the disadvantages truly outweigh the advantages in having more congressional districts, why do you think the people in Cebu and Cavite, especially their leaders, are asking for more districts? And why did mayor Lobregat created a second district in the first place?” Dalipe asked.

Dalipe added that “all politicians are temporary, I will only be your vice mayor for as long as the law allows me to. Mayor Celso Lobregat, whether he likes it or not, has to step down when his term ends. But if we will be able to get the 3rd district for our city, it will be there long after all of us politicians are gone”.

Former vice mayoralty candidate, Atty. Vic Solis, said that from what the mayor said during the consultation, it is very obvious that he is against the creation of the 3rd district.

Solis questioned the motive of Mayor Lobregat in discouraging people from supporting the creation of a 3rd district. He said that being the chief executive of the city, the mayor should be the one to push for the creation of additional congressional districts for the city. Otherwise, he should explain properly and in public why he is against.

Solis commended Congresswoman Climaco for pushing through with the consultations despite opposition from her party leader. He said that the people of Zamboanga should rally behind Beng on this matter.

Mayor Celso Lobregat went to the forum a couple of hours after it started and gave his opinion on the matter. After his speech, he left.

Dalipe said that it was very unwise on the part of the mayor to go there in the middle of the presentation, let the people listen to his opinion, and then leave without waiting for the opinion of the people. “The mayor should have at least shown some respect to those who were present at the consultation and gave them the chance to air their side on the issue in his presence. If the mayor wants the people to listen to his speech, he should have also waited and listen to what the people have to say, he should have given the people a chance to ask him questions on the matter,” Dalipe said.

Meanwhile, Rep. Climaco expressed gratitude to those who participated in the consultations. She said that she will further study the matter based on the opinions expressed during the consultations and other inputs given to her by other sectors of the society.

“I will now have to collate all the inputs that we have and I intend to act accordingly on the matter.” Climaco said. -- Press release

I don’t think so. Franchising a boutique requires a lot, not just a hefty amount of cash. And I don’t remember ateneo having that kind of requirement, who in his crazy mind would think of that. Even ADMU wouldn’t require that.

The last time I remember, a student from Ateneo was begging me to buy stuff from AVON, sara Lee etc just to reach her quota and oh it was a class requirement.

Turkish school slaughters 700 cows for Eid'l Adha



Just like in previous years, the Filipino Turkish Tolerance School in Pitogo slaughtered an estimated 700 cows and its beef would be distributed to indigent families in Zamboanga City, Ipil, Basilan Province, Jolo,Sulu and Manila.

High school director Cihangir Arslan disclosed that the slaughtering of the multifarious cattle is in accordance with Islamic tradition of "Kurban" (Feast of Sacrifice) or Eid'l Adha.
"It is now six years when we started this in the city. We are targeting at least 18,000 indigent families all over the country to be recipients of two-kilo beef per family," Arslan disclosed.
Arslan pointed out that the butchering of the multitude of cattle have started yesterday and will run until Wednesday both in barangays Divisoria and Sitio Pitogo, Sinunuc.
He said 5,000 plastic bags of beef will be shipped to Manila and the remaining 13,000 bags will be distributed to indigents in this city, Ipil, Basilan and Jolo.
"We also coursed 200 plastic bags to Mayor Celso Lobregat for him to identify the indigents, Western Mindanao Command 70 bags and also to San Ramon Penal Farm," Arslan said.
"We will also share cooked beef to indigents at the sanitarium, orphanages, home for the elderly," he said.
Arslan said that the money to buy the hundreds of cows came from their benefactors in Turkey, Australia, Germany and the Philippines. (Nonong Santiago)

Roxas against Cha-Cha moves

Senator Mar Roxas the other day expressed strong opposition to the move by certain quarters close to Malacanang to change the Philippine constitution (Cha-Cha). The senator who was guest of Congressman Erbie Fabian's television show "Amor con Amor se Paga" disclosed that the move to change the constitution at this time is only to extend President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's term beyond 2010.

"This move is what I call the Gloria Forever Cha-Cha because it is very clear the president wants to extend her term beyond her mandate," Roxas emphasized.
Roxas said that the cha-cha move by people close to the president is also a way of distracting the Filipinos from the anomalies facing the Arroyo administration such as the ZTE deal, fertilizer scam, Euro general scandal, C-5 deal and the MOA-Ad between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and others.
"Just like the MOA-AD, giving the MILF what it wants is blackmail," Roxas disclosed.
Roxas pointed out that there could never be peace if rebels like the MILF hold-on to their firearms and attack civilians.
He made it clear that the law should be enforced to everybody whether Christians, Lumads or Muslims because nobody is above the law.
The Liberal Party president has filed a Senate bill for a constitutional convention (Con-Con) as this is more appropriate than Cha-Cha because the people will have the right to vote for the delegates.
The senator praised the people of Zamboanga City because of their maturity especially in choosing their political leaders.
"As the election nears, choose leaders who are sincere, honest and has no track record of corruption," Roxas advised. (Nonong Santiago)
