Kidnapping Industry is booming in the city..the city leadership must do something bout it..

Tama ka Zoro bumalik na nman ung Business of kidnapping kaht sinu la na pinipili tong mga kidnapper...hmmmmppppppp ang tanung anu ginagawa ng authority natin ngayon sa Crisis na to?ang daming bagong Pulis pero ang tanung saan na sila?nakaupo sa City Police office or nasa malls lng nagpapahangin?anu ginagawa ng task forces ng pilipinas bat di naproproteksyonan ung mga tao?Baka sasabihin na nman ng mga militar or pulis kulang sila ng tauhan, anu kulang sila ng sasakyan, kulang sila ng lahat lahat...kuha ng kuha ng applicante para sa Pulis pero la nman ginagawa ang mga Pulis tatayo lng la ginagawa....naku mamang sundalo and mamang Pulis wag papatayo tayo lng....kilos tingin tingin lang sa paligid.....:ohno:

If Malaysia will establish its consulate.no other city in Mindanao deserves it than Zamboanga..Our city serves as the jump point of individuals who want to be employed in Malaysia..Aside from proximity, bulk of Malaysian products first enters the city before it will be distributed to other part of the country.

kua zoro have you still remember about the BIMP-EAGA conference before in Davao City ata last 2006, Malaysia wanted to extend to serve malay people here in mindanao and zamboanga city can be considered as the exit point of Malay people from the philippines while filipino from malaysia are mostly come from ZAMPEN and ARMM regions...they are hoping to have a consulate office here before don't know if what happened to their planned...

hehehe... that was build sometimes 1980's kua JK, when Madam. Cory become a President of the Ph.^^

the 2 buildings are designed by Arch't Daihan Graciano, the one designed Mindpro, skypark, and another building near UCPB bank going to fort pilar. to be honest he is one of the most strick architects in the city.

yep mga communication towers talaga ang matatas, sana mga ganun rin kataas ung mga building dito. :)

yep it was Stonerich. they are based in quezon city, they've already put up a lot of highrises in makati. :)

US issues travel warning vs parts of Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines - Citing threats from kidnap gangs, terrorists and "lawless groups," the United States on Wednesday (Manila time) issued a travel warning against the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao.

In its travel warning, the US State Department particularly warned US citizens on the risks of travel to Mindanao and the Sulu area.

"The State Department warns US citizens of the risks of travel to the southern Philippine islands of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago and urges extreme caution if traveling there," it said.

Last Jan. 15, armed men abducted three staff members of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Sulu. Armed men abducted three schoolteachers in Zamboanga last Friday.

In its travel warning, the US State Department also advised travelers to "exercise extreme caution" in the central and western portions of Mindanao, as well as in the Sulu Archipelago.

"Regional terrorist groups have carried out bombings resulting in injuries and death. Since August 2008, there have been sporadic clashes between lawless groups and the Philippine Armed Forces in the Mindanao provinces of North Cotabato, Lanao del Sur and Lanao del
Norte, as well as the Sulu Archipelago. Kidnap for ransom gangs are active and have targeted foreigners," it said.

Also, it said US government employees must seek special permission for travel to Mindanao or the Sulu Archipelago.

"Travelers to these areas should remain vigilant and avoid congregating in public areas. Some foreigners who reside in or visit Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago hire their own security," it said.

On the other hand, the State Department said it remains concerned about the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against Americans and interests throughout the world.

5,000 Pinoys deported from Sabah in six months; 3,000 more detained

MANILA, Philippines - Close to 5,000 Filipinos, including women and children, have been forced to return to the Philippines since July last year from Sabah as Malaysia intensified its campaign to weed itself of illegal immigrants.

The Bureau of Immigration reported Thursday that its Task Force Sabah was able to process the repatriation of 4,487 Filipinos in six months.

Task force head Jose Carandang said 3,000 more Filipinos remain detained in Sandakan, Sabah and could not be deported due to lack of travel documents.

Two vessels, the M/V Danica Joy and M/V Weezam, sail to Sabah twice a week to pick up Filipino deportees who are ferried to Bongao in Tawi-Tawi and then to Sulu before going to Zamboanga City.

Under an arrangement, Carandang said the deportees are also processed in Bongao.

The deportees, mostly Muslims, arrive by boat in Zamboanga City and are made to stay in refugee shelters under the care of social workers. Two other deportation centers were set up in Pawa and Mengatal in Sabah where Filipinos are temporarily detained. From there, the Filipino deportees were transported by bus to Sandakan where they board a ferry ride to Zamboanga City.

The Filipinos were mostly natives of Tawi-Tawi and Sulu provinces who illegally crossed the border to Sabah to find work in construction sites and plantations.

Kuala Lumpur had previously given amnesty that allowed illegal immigrants to leave the country with a promise they could return as legal workers once they received proper documents.

Ambassador Victoriano Lecaros of the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur told GMANews.TV that in just four months, about 12,000 Filipinos availed of the passports given by Malaysian authorities so that they could be able to work in Sabah.

The Malaysian government's tough action has enjoyed popular support in Malaysia, where illegal workers, who had numbered more than a million in a country of 24 million people, have been blamed for crime and other social ills

But deported Filipinos often return to Sabah, which they consider their home, risking caning from Malaysian authorities and possible jail time.

Last January 13, a boat carrying 12 Filipinos trying to sneak into Sabah capsized, leaving at least four dead and three missing.

Reports said that the bodies of four Filipinos – three children and a woman – had been recovered off a beach in Kampung Tinosa, Malaysia.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Esteban Conejos, in an earlier interview, said it is very likely that the deported Filipinos would keep returning to Sabah, which they consider more as their home.

"They go back to Sabah because our ties (there) is so strong. They don’t understand why they need a Philippine passport and a visa to enter Sabah," Conejos said.

The Philippines has a dormant claim over Sabah, which it declares as part of its territory under the contract of the Sultanate of Sulu.

sayang un pero i think we are waisting more money on road rehabilitation na d pa naman dapat e rehab^_^ dito sa cebu expand lang sila ng expand ng road, they dont even widen road, they do over pass^^, at un sa mga d masyado bz na road or main road aspalt na diretso no cement used na bale maintenance na lang if mag glory hole un dahil sa ulan^^

That project is working on the intermediate-sections.

The Local government is doing that, particularly farm-to-market roads, road concreting on farflung areas, and road expansion as well. :)

I hope the local government might also look on the possibility of opening roads in the urbanized part of the city.

...me too. The last time i was there is when we went to Bacolod, grabe ang amow dun sa Terminal dahil sa mga nabubulok na nakatambak na Garlic dun..

...sana nga talaga, Nakakainis na yan mga trycycle overpricing na sila kala nila Taxi sila, eh mas mabuti pa nga kung Taxi nalang aircon pa. tsk

Zamboanga City is really affected in Global Financial Crisis.

Miramar Canning Corp. - MCC. Lost more than 25% since November, the management will cut of some workers in their company by the month. para di mag sara ulit ang cumpanya nila ng isang buwan ulit.
Filipinas Furnitures Inc. - My Mom said baka ang Filipinas Furnitures will goes into Bankruptcy nah...this Business is now For Sale!!!
Golden Bell Inc. - still Mr. Ang and his Family still the Owner of all Golden Bells branches in Mindanao - Namimiligrong Magsara (Bankruptcy)...Mr. Ang and his family are still staying in Zamboanga some where in Zone IV.
Emcor - Emcor lost last quarter of 2008, so they need to close their one branch in Buenavista St.
Magnolia Phillippines-Zamboanga City - Owned/Franchised by Lepeng Wee and his Family is also affected
Even the Shoppers' Chane and Stores are too...

”Certain it is that ballads have been written about Zamboanga City, and songs have been sung of it,” writes David Potter in “Sailing the Sulu Sea:”

Songs and music constitute the most developed phase in the cultural life of the Zamboangueño. They have been known far and wide, and sung through memory by everyone in Zamboanga.

One of the most popular of these songs is No Te Vayas de Zamboanga. This was composed by Juan Cuadrado, Sr., a Spaniard who decided to stay in Zamboanga after the Spanish troops left the country. He later married a Zamboangueña with whom he bore several children. According to the old-timers of the city, this song was composed among the taverns which Cuadrado used to frequent. There was no real intention to write the song, for Cuadrado was not a musician. But when the heart was full, then it was only music that could express its real feelings. The song was popularized when a Colonel Loving placed it down in music. The words of the songs goes this way.

Another popular song is Zamboanga Hermosa which praises the beauty of the women of Zamboanga. The song originated in the pre-war era, but it was only during the later part of the 1930’s when it was made popular by Matias Ranillo, Sr.,(a Dipolognon) Governor of Zamboanga Province. Later, a Cebuano Vod-a-vil show director, Borromeo Lou, popularized it. A Zamboangueño well-known local write and poet in Spanish who wrote the lyrics was Vicente Orendain. The following are the lyrics of Zamboanga Hermosa

A much earlier song, composed during the Spanish regime is Leal y Valiente Villa de Zamboanga.

The songs of Zamboanga are not limited to Spanish songs. There are also native songs of the Tausugs, Subanon, Badjaos, Samals and Yakans. Most of these songs reflect their way of life, religion, customs and traditions.

The following song is a popular Tausug song entitled Ligaya. It tells about the love of a Moslem youth to Ligaya, a Zamboangueňa. However, due to his religion, marriage between them was not possible for Ligaya was a Christian. So he laments over the impossibility of marriage between them, resorting to hanging himself with the handkerchief at the well which his sweetheart left.

The seemingly unstable peace and order situation in the city brought about by the spate of kidnappings has not prevented the launching of a world class memorial park owned by the Villar Group of Companies.

Golden Haven Memorial Park will soon open in Barangay Boalan, this city, as the site development of the 5.5-hectare lot has already been started as early as last year.
Senator Manny Villar, founder of the Villar Group of Companies, personally led the launching of Golden Haven last Saturday at Astoria Regency in Pasonanca.
In an interview, Villar said that Zamboanga has been one of his choices to invest “because I believe Zamboanga is one of the business-friendly cities in the Philippines.”
Aside from this, Villar said he will also encourage fellow businessmen to invest in the city.
Villar said all lawlessness incidents happening in the city are part of the social problem of a highly urbanized city.
“Bombings, kidnappings and other crimes are also happening in other places in the Philippines. In Manila, for example, we are also experiencing the same dilemma,” Villar stressed.
With the good leaders that the city have, Villar is confident that the city’s peace and order will soon be normalized.
The senator who is a presidential aspirant also expressed confidence on the capability of the men in uniform in bringing back the peace and tranquility that the Zamboangueños deserve. — Jimmy Villaflores
