althought security cameras will not stop any crime in general, It will help solve the crime.

^^in my own opinion i think we really need to start installing it in all establishments and especially in the city proper and important or vital installations in the whole of zambo city since the city is growing, if other progressive country uses it y cant we:)

Zamboanga City : Asia's Latin City?

When Zamboanga City was named Asia's latin city, a lot of people reacted to it. Some negatively and some positively. The primary aim of this new title is to drive in tourism. Some people said that it would be a rip off. But Zamboanga city looks latin as any city in Latin America does. In fact most cities in the Philippines can be branded as a Latin city. The British historian Arnold J. Toynbee went even as far as saying that "the Philippines is a Latin American country that was transported to the Orient by a gigantic marine wave". Zamboanga City having Chabacano (the only Spanish creole in Asia) as its language makes it even more deserving of the title.

The term Latin or Latino is used to refer to anything or anyone that comes from Latin America. It is also used to describe something which has affinity to Latin America.

The term Hispanic meanwhile refers to anything with affinity to Spain. Remember that Hispania and Espania means the same thing: Spain.

Latin America is the collective term for all countries in the Americas where Romance languages (i.e. languages derived from Latin, and hence the name of Latin America) are spoken: Spanish, Portuguese, French, and their creoles.

Different words mean different things to different people. In Anglo-America, these terms have various meanings. However those meanings do not apply to the people outside of Anglo-America.

I remember a radio announcer saying that the more accurate title is 'Asia's Hispanic city' and not 'Asia's Latin city'. However, let us not forget that from 1565 to 1821 or 256 years, the Viceroy of Mexico directly governed the Philippines from Mexico city. In fact, most Spaniards who migrated to the Philippines came from Mexico and not Spain. Migrating from Spain to the Philippines would not have been practical because travel would have taken a long time. The Suez canal which cut travel time opened in 1869, only a couple of years before Spain sold the Philippines to the USA. For this, both Hispanic and Latin are correct. I am talking from a historical standpoint though and not political.

In this article, Abu Anis , a spokesman of an organization in Zamboanga City and Basilan province, said Resolution No.760 which branded Zamboanga City as "Latin City" has no justification culturally and historically. He went on to say that Zamboanga City was never part of the Philippine territories. But how can one say that Zamboanga city was never part of the Philippine territories when the Spanish Fort of Pilar was built to protect the city from pirates. This obviously means that Zamboanga was part of the Philippine territories.

This Anis person is nothing but a guy whose knowledge in history is obsolete. He even accused (Mayor) Lobregat of acting arrogantly for never consulting the historians and intellectuals, adding that he is acting in sheer “ignorance” or “pride” as half-baked descendants of the Spaniards. This prejudice and hatred against the Spanish people is one exhibited by most ignorant Filipinos. It is most commonly an emotion planted in Filipinos by movies like 'Rizal' which depicts Spaniards as arrogant, stiff, and cruel, and by history books which has nothing but bad words for the Spaniards.

Anis even said that: to foreigners Latin is not in Latin American countries but in Rome where the spoken language was once Latin, although Latin is now a dead language. How ignorant can you get? What a statement! It makes my heart ache to see such under researched statements.

A corrupt Spanish, that is what Anis calls Chabacano. This is totally an erroneous statement. For one, Chabacano is not Spanish. It is a well known fact that Chabacano is a Spanish creole.

Mr. Anis' ignorance is cemented by this statement: visitors are sometimes frustrated when they cannot find Romans but Badjaos and Samals, who are begging from these newcomers or urging them throw coins into the sea.

A very good example of proof that Zamboanga City and even the Philippines qualifies as '"Latin" is the fact that this country belongs to the Latin union. The Latin union is an organization of all countries which speaks a language derived from latin such as French and Spanish (Romance languages). The Philippines, even though not having Spanish as an official language, enjoys membership in this union because of its cultural affinity to Spain.

It is a fact that when you are in America, the Filipino would typically be mistaken as a Latino. It is a fact that you would feel more comfortable around Latinos than any other kinds of peoples. It is a fact that the Spanish which we spoke in the Philippines years before was Mexican Spanish. It is a fact that there are words in our language which comes from Nahuatl (a group of related languages and dialects of the Aztecan branch of the Uto-Aztecan language family which is indigenous to Mesoamerica
origin (e.g. tatay (tatle), nanay (nantl), abokado (avocado), bayabas [from guayaba(s)])

Zamboanga is qualified to be called as Asia's Latin city. However preposterous it might sound to the typical ignorant Filipino, it is the truth.

Zamboanga: Asia's Latin City? Definitely!

by: Jerome Herrera http://allicanhandle.blogspot.com/2007/10/zamboanga-city-asias-latin-city.html

just want to share this article from a friend of mine back in college.

Honestly, the first time the idea of re-branding zamboanga as Asia's Latin City got me a hard time to accept it.

but after reading the article, well, got to consider the idea now. :)

The term Latin or Latino is used to refer to anything or anyone that comes from Latin America. It is also used to describe something which has affinity to Latin America.

The term Hispanic meanwhile refers to anything with affinity to Spain. Remember that Hispania and Espania means the same thing: Spain.

Latin America is the collective term for all countries in the Americas where Romance languages (i.e. languages derived from Latin, and hence the name of Latin America) are spoken: Spanish, Portuguese, French, and their creoles.

dapat sa Baliwasan Seaside going Lower Calarian 4 lanes road halos giba na ung daanan..
sa Baliwasan Chico(sgt Fernandes street)giba na rin ung daanan needs more rehabilitation and ung mga houses halos nasa national highway na dapat tong gibain ung mga houses na to to give way sa sidewalk halos ala ng side walk and dapat may overpass along this area...
sa may baliwasan san jose intersection going baliwasan tabuk road dapat 4 lanes din...subrang traffic dito na notice kaya to ng City Government and city councils?
buenavista road subrang sikip and sira na ung daanan,,,,

I am very pleased to announce to our community that our AdZU nursing graduates made an impressive performance in the June 2009 Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE). Our AdZU first takers had a passing rate of 83%, i.e., 215 out of 259 examinees passed. Including the repeaters, our graduates scored a passing rate of 78%, i.e., 227 out of 291 examinees passed. The NLE national passing rate was 42% (32,617 out of 77,901 examinees passed the exam). Our overall ranking for nursing schools in the country in the category of more than 100 examinees is #15.

I would like to thank and congratulate our board passers for this very fine performance. Many thanks also to the College of Nursing led by Dean Maria Lorna B Paber, and the members of the Nursing Review Program coordinated by Ms Maria Victoria C Montaño.

Congratulations and many thanks to all!

From the Adzu Pres.

Miami Heat's Pinoy coach inspires RP youth

ZAMBOANGA CITY – In a bid to bridge the gap of cultural and traditional differences among the youth, the United States government spearheaded its first-ever sports clinic in the Philippines which set off in Zamboanga City Tuesday afternoon.

In line with the Sports Envoy program of the US State Department, the group invited National Basketball Association (NBA) personalities to inspire some 200 students and out-of-school youth in Zamboanga City.

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra cordially accepted the invitation of the US government to teach the basics of basketball to Mindanao youth in a four-hour sports clinic.

Spoelstra believes that through basketball, they can bring people together and share the same interest in sports amidst the differences in culture and belief.

"The kids were amazing. we have kids of different ages, about 200 of them, from ages eight all the way to 19. They are as attentive and ethusiatic as any group that we've worked with. the enthusiasm for the game, you could see it right away," he said.

He also announced with pride that he is a true-blooded Filipino as his mother traces back her roots to Los Baños, Laguna.

Spoelstra was only three years old when his family migrated to America, where he grew up embracing the culture of the West.

But he said he has never forgotten the Philippines. As a matter of fact, he told the public that he is proud to be a Filipino.

NBA potential

Spoelstra added that he is planning to help Filipino basketball players in the youth sector, amateur or even in the professional level, to enhance, develop and nurture their skills in basketball.

According to the head coach of Miami Heat, there are a lot of Filipino basketball players who have the potential of making it in the NBA. But it is just a matter of time and nourishment to be able to compete in the US national league.

Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale also joined the group in promoting basketball to the Mindanao youth as a tool of bridging cultural diversity and bringing about peace among the people.

Former US Women NBA all-star Sue Wicks, currently the assistant coach of the St. Francis College Terriers, also took part in the basketball clinic.

Spoelstra, Fizdale and Wicks will continue teaching basketball basics on Wednesday, 2:15 p.m. at Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City, according to a news release from the US Embassy.

They will also hold two basketball clinics on Thursday, first at the La Salle Greenhills Gymnasium in Mandaluyong City at 8:15 a.m., and at the San Beda College Gymnasium in Mendiola, Manila at 2 p.m.

On Friday, they will be at the San Andres Gymnasium in Malate, Manila at 2 p.m. They will return to the San Andres Gymnasium on Saturday for a 9 a.m. basketball clinic. With a report from ANC

SM City Cagayan de Oro wants upscale brands from Metro Manila to draw more shoppers

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Shopping mall operator SM Prime Holdings will fill up its shopping complex here with shops for the upscale market.

But Danilo B. Chavez, assistant vice-president for Visayas and Mindanao operations, said the company still has no plans to expand SM City Cagayan de Oro, unlike Limketkai shopping complex, its top competitor here.

Instead, he said, the company will encourage "upmarket" shops from Metro Manila to cater to the A and B consumers. "We will fill up this mall with upscale locators that are unique to this city," said Mr. Chavez.

There are a number of food establishments considering opening shops here, he said. "People will go to this mall because you won’t find the tenants located here anywhere but only in SM City," Mr. Chavez said.

Although the mall wants the A and B market, all else will follow. “We are still 30% unique in terms of our locators. We are aiming to be 60% unique in the next few months, said Bienvenido Paul C. Ferrer III, SM City mall manager.

A marketing study conducted in November, he said, found out consumers want unique and upscale stores, shops and food establishments. “The bulk of our shoppers here are women, added Mr. Ferrer. “We also have to cater to the market, he said.

This city’s uptown Lumbia area where SM City is located hosts a number of posh subdivisions and golf clubs. Homeowners have at least one member of the family working overseas. Some expatriates also live there.

Mr. Ferrer said one challenge is to bring in 40,000 people everyday. “For now, we are bringing in 18,000 to 25,000 people per day, said Mr. Ferrer.

SM Prime intends to build up to four malls every year, with plans afoot for malls in General Santos and Zamboanga.

When pa kaya to?....Gensan have it already sana by this coming Year or this year mag aanounce narin ang SM to put a mall here in Z.C.

Globe, Intel launch WiMAX service in RP
at Friday, June 12, 2009

Globe Telecom and Intel Philippines announced Thursday the official rollout of Globe's commercial Worldwide Interoperability For Microwave Access (WiMAX) service in the country, which is the first ever WiMAX service in the Philippines.

Globe Consumer Broadband Group Head Menchi Orlina said Globe's WiMAX service is the company's attempt to "democratize the Internet" by providing the service in areas where high-speed Internet access is difficult.

"We want to make the Internet more ubiquitous and pervasive for all Filipinos. For as low as P795 a month, consumers can now have high-speed wireless broadband Internet access in areas where Internet penetration has been difficult," she said in a press conference.

Unlike Wi-Fi services that only provide lower bandwidth applications such as e-mail and basic browsing, WiMAX can provide speeds of up to 1 Mbps which is 33 percent faster than commercially available Wi-Fi services. This is because WiMAX is built on advanced wireless technology that counteract the effects of interference to deliver more data at greater ranges.

As of June 2009, Globe's WiMAX service is already available in Camanava, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna and Quezon in Luzon; Cebu province, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Silay City in the Visayas; and Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao.

Orlina said that by year-end, Globe is planning to expand its WiMAX service to the whole of National Capital Region and Rizal province, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, pampanga, Bulacan, South Luzon, Bataan in Luzon; Cebu Province, Bohol, Iloilo, Leyte, Guimaras, Capiz, Negros Island in the Visayas; and Zamboanga, Compostela Valley, Agusan province, Lanao, Surigao, Cotabato province and General santos City in Mindanao.

Orlina said subscribers can choose from three WiMAX plans: P795/month for 512 kbps Internet only, P995/month for 512 kbps plus landline and P1,295 for 1 Mbps plus landline.

According to Intel Philippines Country Manager for Sales and Marketing Ricky Banaag, some 100 Intel employees started testing WiMAX technology in Cavite as early as four years ago. He said WiMAX service has also been launched in Greenbelt Center in Makati.

Navin Shenoy, vice-president for the sales and marketing group and general manager of Intel Asia-Pacific, said the launch of Globe Broadband's commercial WiMAX service "ushers in the 4G era in the country.

He said Internet usage in the region has been steadily growing despite the recession due to the increase in Internet-capable mobile devices such as iPhones and laptops. Unfortunately, he also noted that broadband penetration in the Philippines has been unevenly distributed, affecting only urban centers.

"Globe Telecom has the distinction of being the first telco to use WiMAX technology in the Philippines, which will meet growing demand for high speed Internet service. The Philippines now joins 135 countries that is offering commercial WiMAX services to consumers," he told reporters.

Shenoy said one driver of WiMAX adoption in the future is the embedding of WiMAX chips to notebooks, netbooks and other mobile devices.

He said that in Russia, one telco signed up to 76,000 subscribers one month after launching its WiMAX service. "On the other hand, telcos in Japan are planning to have nationwide WiMAX coverage by 2012," he said. (abs-cbnnews.com)

yeah, prior to June '09 board, UZ was number 1 with an impressive 89%, ADZU that time 73% lng ata, i'm not sure bsta 70+% lng... But with the total number of students mas maraming students ang pumasa sa ADZU... kasi UZ below 100 lng ang nagtake, so sa Cluster B, No. 7 sila... With a No.7 Topnotcher Mr. Pascual... Piolo ata... hehe. joke! :D impressive tlga!!! I commend UZ studes for it, galing nila!!! In ADZU's part naman, no.22-23 lng sa Cluster C, ngayon no.15 na sa June '09 board, w/c is 100 or more studes, with an overall passing rate of 70+%... But with a No.9 topnotcher which is Ms. Cindy Mae Nañoz... :)

Exciting toh for the next examination... let's see, who again will reign as the unbeatable leader.. Pakaka-abangan!!!

top 6 pla...

yeah WMSU is on the TOP LIST in NLE 2009...but ADZU did got the highest rating in NLE in this year...

there are about 600+ wmsu nsg.graduates who took the June '09 Nursing Board Examinations with exactly 50% passed... But if we take into account by reducing half of the total number of examinees who took are from WMSU, just to relatively compare to that of the total examinees from ADZU, magiging 300 examinees na lng, sa ADZU unchanged, 290 examinees.... Solve its percentage by weighted average, ang overall performance is 76%... ADZU, 78%... So, slightly leading ang ADZU compared WMSU with a difference of 2%... :)

well, plans do change. we really don't know. we have to wait for an official announcement from SM prime.

no need to w8^^ para sakin im happy what zamboanga is now:lol:

because nakikita ko un mga stalss dito sa zambo un nasa sm na along the raods lang like NIKE, MA-CO, HOUSE of PRAISE, ITTI, REYES CUTTER, OAKLEY, OCTAGON, etc etc etc:lol: and i love to see the trafic because of this:lol:

one advantage in not having this mall in the city is more time exploring the city area =)
and our locals are the one who is benefiting it:lol: "AND YOU TO CAN BE PART OF IT"

imagine if may land ka or area along the road and ur area is the next will be urbanize youl be enganyo to put bldng stals d ba^^

Because of this our shoppers is spending more than shoppers in malls:lol:
why? because if sa malls one rides ka land u can have more na
while un satin NEW YORK style byahe dito byahe doon just to aquire those items^^ or lakad dito lakad doon^^

disadvantage of having big malls in our life style magiging ganito

HOUSE->WORK->MALLS->NIGHT LIFE:lol:
HOUSE->SCHOOL-> MALLS->NIGHT LIFE :lol:

advantage is comfortability, save money and most shoppers do palipas oras=))

anyways nakaka inis un zamcelco this days

yah, true indeed. If SM do comes then that's great, if it does not then it's OK.

what I would like to see is that there would be BPO companies investing considering the manpower and the tool the city already has to offer.

Zambo folks offer prayers for Cory
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by David Y. Santos, ABS-CBN Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- In unity with a country in mourning, residents here gathered to hear mass Saturday afternoon to offer prayers for former President Corazon Aquino.

ABS-CBN, through its regional base in Zamboanga City, earlier called on residents to attend the mass for Mrs. Aquino at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral at 5:30 p.m..

Aside from employees of ABS-CBN Zamboanga and residents from all walks of life, one of those who attended the mass was Zamboanguenio Jesuit priest Salvador Wee.

“We thank President Cory for her exemplary courage and integrity,” said Wee, who donned a yellow shirt as a tribute to the former president.

After the mass, candles were lit outside the cathedral and at the historical Fort Pilar shrine, where a huge poster of Mrs. Aquino was placed near the courtyard’s altar of the Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

Devotees quietly offered their prayers for the former president, described as the country’s icon of democracy.

Hours after her death, Mayor Celso Lobregat issued a statement of condolence to the Aquino family in front of the Zamboanga City, after ordering flags to be placed on half-mast.

Lobregat said he plans to fly to Manila within the week, to “personally and officially” pay respects to Mrs. Aquino, in behalf of the people of Zamboanga City.

In one the masses offered for intentions of the former president, a leader of the local Catholic Church likened Mrs. Aquino to St. John the Baptist, who was the focal point of Saturday’s gospel.

According to the Vicar-General of the Zamboanga Archdiocese Monsignor Cris Manongas, while St. John was martyred because he fought the tyranny of Herod Antipas for siding with the truth, Mrs. Aquino, on the other hand, is remembered for never being afraid to face a dictator.

“Even in her death, Mrs. Aquino continue to set her as an example of our struggle against corruption, to cleanse our society, to move forward as a God-fearing nation and as people who stand for truth, democracy and freedom,” Manongas said in his sermon.

Masses on all parishes under the archdiocese of Zamboanga will offer intentions for the former president for nine-days.

Zamboangueña parishioner and retired government employee Gloria Vela said she was “relieved” to see Mrs. Aquino “rested and can feel no pain”.

Church layman and private accountant Alan Alabata recalled campaigning for the Aquino-Laurel tandem during the 1986 snap elections. Alabata said that he will always look up to Mrs. Aquino as the country’s “most incorruptible leader.”

“(Former Zamboanga City Mayor) Cesar Climaco and Ninoy Aquino were very good friends,” Alabata pointed out. When Climaco, a tough critic of the former President Ferdinand Marcos, was assassinated in 1984, anti-Marcos sentiment became very strong in the city. Alabata said, this sentiment became a unifying factor for Mrs. Aquino and Zamboanga City after the 1986 people power revolt.

And as a display of goodwill, Mrs. Aquino appointed the former Mayor’s son, Atty. Rini Climaco as the city’s officer-in-charge during the transition government.

Lobregat said Mrs. Aquino “galvanized the opposition” during the Marcos regime, which also paved the way for the city to be known as a staunch ‘opposition country’ for the past several years.

Call Center for Zamboanga transferred to Dapitan City
by Nonong Santiago

The alarming peace and order problem in Zamboanga City had prompted investors to transfer their call center account intended for Zamboanga city to Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte.
Vice Mayor Mannix Dalipe disclosed that the investors first intended to establish the call center in this city, but due to the city’s bad peace and order situation, they opted to transfer their business to Dapitan city.

Dalipe who visited Dapitan City last week during the 95th founding anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo, said he felt sorry for the Zamboangueños especially those who are still unemployed. He said our people could have had the chance to work and earn if the call center was established here.
“It was Provincial Board Member Bullet Jalosjos who told me about the investors proposed plan to put up the call center in Zamboanga City but instead transferred it to Dapitan,” Dalipe stressed.
The vice mayor said there is much to be done to make the city more peaceful and attractive to investors.
The city government should provide its 100 percent support to the police and Task Force Zamboanga by providing them adequate crime fighting capabilities like firearms, vehicles and funding for intelligence gathering.
“I do not know why Mayor Celso Lobregat keeps on ignoring my request for security or surveillance cameras in strategic places of the city. I know this can somehow help improve our peace and order,” Dalipe said.
The vice mayor said while other small cities and provinces in the region are allocating funds for the purchase of security cameras, the city, with plenty of funds deposited in banks is not even concerned of obtaining the cameras.
“Ta pensa kita cay adelante pa kita na otro ciudad, pero nusabe kita cay ya man lampas ya canaton el otro maga diutay ciudad,” Dalipe said in the vernacular.
“I do not know where the city is going under this administration which is bent on collecting taxes from the people but is also just bent on depositing and hiding the money in banks, without considering to return to the people what they have been paying to the city government in the form of taxes,’’ Dalipe said. Iturralde cites ecozone-Bionas MOA on jatropha

Councilor Cesar Iturralde has cited the benefits that can be achieved by local residents from the newly-forged memorandum of agreement between the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority and a Malaysian company formalizing the establishment of a jatropha biofuel and biodiseal press mill and refinery in San Ramon.

Iturralde, who is the City Council representative in the Ecozone Board said the partnership between the Ecozone and the Biofuel Bionas SDN BHD (BBSB) will bring about employment and alternative agricultural activity for farmers in the city.
The setting up of the press mill and refinery, he said will help improve the plight of local farmers and consequently bring about economic advancement in Zamboanga.
The councilor was instrumental in convincing the group to set up its refinery at the ecozone in San Ramon.
According to Iturralde, an initial investment of P800 million is expected to be poured in to the city which will include the setting up of a crude jatropha oil press mill in phase I and the setting up of a refinery in phase II.
“Priority will be given to the people in Zamboanga City for job employment,” the alderman, who was one of the witnesses in the signing of the MOA at the Mall of Asia in Manila last July 26, said.
Iturralde hoped that local farmers will take advantage of the opportunity, as the government undertakes measures to help alleviate the plight of every sector in the city.
Bionas has contracted with MJSULCAZAM Philippine Corporation for the implementation of its project here. The refinery will be the facility where jathropa seeds will be processed and the end products of which will be shipped for sale not only to other parts of the country but the world.
Based on studies, jathropa is recognized as best alternative to crude palm oil in the production of biodiesel.
The MOA was signed by executive chairman Mohd Safi’e Jaffri and chief executive officer Zurina Amnan and Zamboecozone chairperson Georgina Yu.
Aside from Iturralde, other officials present during the signing ceremonies were Ferdinand Mahusay representing the Office of the President and Ecozone officials Meinrad Yanga and other representatives from BIONAS Malaysia.

US professor lectures on Spanish, Chavacano launguage and culture

By CATHERINE U. RAMOS and MYLENE G. RECONALLA

Dr. John M. Lipski of Pennysylvania State University lectured students and Language Faculty on the significance of Spanish and Chabacano to every Zamboangueño on Aug. 3-6, 2009 at the College of Law Moot Court, WMSU.
In his lecture, Lipski mentioned that when he first came to Zamboanga City in 1985, Chabacano was spoken largely by many Zamboangueños in every corner of the street.

According to him, in 1970s, newspapers and radio were using the language, as it is quietly different now.
Dr. Lipski came to the city sometime in 1985 and conducted a series of researches about chabacano language for three months and has befriended several chabacano-speaking people and was quoted to have said “Zamboangueños are very hospitable people”.
Before chabacano came to existence, Spanish, a language of historical and cultural significance in the Philippines, is one of the factors that brought up chabacano. Spanish was the first official language of the country during the Spanish era in the 16th century and had remained so for over four centuries.
But, today, Spanish is only used for cultural heritage purposes and on an operational basis. The growing demand of Spanish-speaking call center industry in the different parts of the globe is one great advantage of Zamboangueños to compete in business in outsourcing.
In this case, according to Lipski, is one of the advantages of chabacano-speaking people not to find if it difficult to learn Spanish.
He pointed out that one of the factors that contributed to language change is the people’s contact with other languages. In country like the Philippines which has been a colony of different countries for years, has brought great influence and that’s how chabacano was formed.
Chabacano, a “creole” language as they said, is a mixture of Spanish, Mexican, Tagalog, Cebuano, and many other dialects which made it unique from other dialects.
However, deep chabacano or “chabacano ondo” is rarely spoken nowadays due to socialization with other dialects, and that is why, Dr. Lipski told the audience that chabacano shouls be promoted and preserved; and he suggested that chabacano should be taught in the first three years in elementary.
Why Zamboanga is called Asia’s Latin City has something to do also with Spanish.
Prof. Hermenegildo P. Malcampo, a linguist, also added that out of the 3,650 chabacano words spoken in the city, 2,040 of those originated from pure Latin Language, a fact why Zamboanga deserves the tag as “ Asia’s Latin City”.
Dr. Lipski has travelled to different countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and have encountered various creole languages, but said that chabacano is still different, because of its ingredients that made it such.
Also present during the lecture were WMSU Pres. Dr. Grace J. Rebollos, who is very thankful to the US professor, Dr. Milabel Ho, vice president for Research and Prof. Malcampo.
The lecture was organized by Prof. Julie Uy Cabato, Director of the Language Development and Research Center (LDRC).
The first day of the lecture ended with Dr. Lipski saying “ the time is now for every Zamboangueño to speak chabacano”. — Catherine Uy Ramos and Mylene G. Reconalla, WMSU Masscom

i'l defend my institution..in fairness to WMSU, there are 611 examinees..and the school cannot adopt a policy that will prevent the students to take exams without passing pre-boards because its very anti-students and we are a state university to begin with..

well, it goes to ADZU as well... we do have pre-boards, but is not under their control to let students take the nov if they're found to fail on the pre-boards... it's all just recommendation.. moreover, an assessment exam only... :)

very true.. as long we clearly point out the differences. for now, the strongest opponent for celso is dalipe (in my own opinion). I'm hoping for new personalities besides dalipe to run in the next election but for now there is none. So I guess, I stick to dalipe FOR NOW.
when the time there would be a very strong candidate for the post I would bet on him(whoever he/she is). Of course, we should always look on the candidates plans for the city. But one thing for sure, I would not vote for Celso it's enough for him.
