ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines Zamboanga City now has its first Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) or call center.

The inauguration and blessing Saturday of this city’s first call center, e.AXS Communications, Incorporated, was graced by top officials of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company, Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) and the local government.

Jamela Anne Galindez, e.AXS Communications, Incorporated chief operating officer (COO), said they will start full operations on Monday with an initial of 50 call center agents to cater to the needs of its clients.

Galindez disclosed that e.AXS Communications already has three clients–two in the U.S. and one in Canada–both for inbound and outbound services.

She said they will initially start on 12 hours a day operations from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and would eventually go on a 24/7 before or by the end of this month.

She said they are targeting to offer bi-lingual and multi-lingual services and to increase its number of call center agents to more than 500 by the end of this year.

Zamboanga City has the edge in terms of human resources since they have good capability to speak English and Spanish, according to Galindez.

The company is in the finalizing stage to offer other services in the BPO industry, Galindez disclosed.

e.AXS Communications, Incorporated, owned by homegrown young entrepreneurs, is a customer contact solutions and services provider in the BPO industry.

“It is a BPO company set for the demands of our fast-paced world. It is run by its owners–people dedicated to the company and determined to make it succeed. With hands-on management from the top brass, our clients get full attention and support,” e.AXS Communications stated in its company profile.

“Our mission is to provide consistently excellent service and continuously seek fresh and innovative ways to improve on the existing processes and solutions that we offer, thus raising the bar of the BPO industry standard. It is also our mission to give Zamboanga City a secure foothold in the world of Information Technology and to prove to the world that our city is a prime e-commerce investment destination,” it added.

PLDT business head for small and medium enterprises in the Visayas and Mindanao areas Nilo Bantilan has guaranteed that PLDT could provide the needed infrastructure in the BPO industry.

The GEM has assisted the e.AXS Communications, Incorporated in terms of company profiling as well as that of the clients to ensure the firm gets the right customers, according to GEM BPO specialist Cornelia Victolero.

Nenaco introduces new promo, re-opens Zamboanga route

The Negros Navigation Company Inc. (Nenaco) has introduced a new promo scheme as the shipping firm re-opened Saturday the Zamboanga-Manila route via Bacolod and Iloilo cities.

The promo is known as the “seamless” travel or service wherein Nenaco passengers from neighboring provinces are given free fare in traveling to Zamboanga City.

Nenaco Executive Vice-President for sales and marketing Jose Manuel Mapa said they have tied up with the biggest bus company in the region as well as ferries servicing the island provinces for seamless travel they are offering to the passengers bound for Bacolod, Iloilo and Manila.

Mapa said it will be the Nenaco will shoulder the passengers’ fare from the provinces in the region in going to Zamboanga City to board the ship under the seamless promo.

Mapa said all the passengers have to do is to show the Negros Navigation ticket they bought in the province’s ticket outlets and the bus or ferry voucher issued to them and “their fare will be free in going to Zamboanga City.”

“We would like to make it convenient to the people from the provinces,” Mapa added.

The Nenaco has assigned the 6,090-gross tonnage vessel as the shipping firm has resumed servicing for passengers in the Zamboanga-Manila route via Bacolod and Iloilo Cities and vice-versa.

The M/S Saint Peter the Apostle that has a passenger capacity of 2,200 departed from this southern port city around 9 p.m. Saturday for its maiden voyage en route to Manila carrying passengers and cargoes.

Mapa said they decided to re-open the Zamboanga route since they have seen a lot of business and passengers potentials here and in nearby provinces of the region.

“It’s a growing economy. We would like to be part and of service to the people (in the region),” Mapa said.

The M/S Saint Peter the Apostle that has 160 crew members is skippered by Captain Oscar Jadoc, who has been with the Nenaco for 32 years.

M/S Saint Peter the Apostle arrives Zamboanga port at 1 p.m. Saturday and departs at 9 p.m. for Manila via Bacolod and Iloilo Cities.

Mapa said the M/S Saint Peter the Apostle could also serve as a floating venue for conferences and seminars as the vessel has a facility for such activities.

The first time Nenaco has operated a passenger and cargo vessel servicing the Zamboanga route was five years ago.

Mapa disclosed they stopped servicing passengers, though a container ship continued to ply once a week, in the Zamboanga route since the company sold the M/S San Lorenzo Ruiz plying to this southern port city.

Mapa said the M/S San Lorenzo Ruiz, a passenger-cargo vessel, was sold as it was no longer fuel efficient, the reason why they stopped servicing passengers to and from the city of Zamboanga.

nice idea ng Negros Navigation ahh,,,,Good Luck and more Power sa Company....all over the City ahh ung promotion sa pagbabalik ng NENACO hahahha

ZAMBOANGUEÑO MAKES BIG IN ALCOHOL BUSINESS

Here’s something to be proud of by Zamboangueños.
A pure blooded Zamboangueño is making good in alcohol business in the country.

Alton Atilano, who belongs to the large Atilano clan of Zamboanga City, owns the popular Doctor J alcohol.

Atilano’s product which is formulated in Europe is different from several rubbing alcohol products in the market. It has good fragrance coming from France.

In an interview last Saturday, Atilano said that aside from the local market, Dr. J alcohol is also doing well in terms of production and marketing in the country competing with other big brands.

He revealed that the product is now being used in big hospitals and companies such as Medical City, PLDT, Maynilad, Unilab and other health institutions in the country.

“It’s only a testimony to the high quality of the product, so I hope kay aqui na Zamboanga ay keda number one el Dr. J, kay diatun este,” Atilano said.

He said that Dr. J is an effective disinfectant which kills 99.9 percent of germs.

Dr. J derives from famous PBA legend and former Senator Robert Jaworski, his former partner in the business.

Today, Atilano now controls the business after Jaworski opted to sell his share to him when he was elected senator.

In Zamboanga, the distributor of the Dr. J alcohol is JAKA Distributors of Raymond Guevarra. Atilano who is in town to promote the product invited local residents to try Dr. J alcohol and to feel its difference from other brands.

Bottles of Dr. J alcohol were giveaways during the birthday celebration of District 2 Congressman Erbie Fabian last Saturday night at Palmeras Rigodon Ball. — Noning R. Antonio

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor Celso L. Lobregat recently inaugurated a two-storey, eight classroom building worth P7.6 million at the Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat National High School (MCLLNHS) in Barangay Divisoria, this city.

The newly completed project brings to five school buildings constructed by the local government at the MCLLNHS since he assumed as Mayor in 2004, according to Lobregat.

He said the establishment of the MCLLNHS, formerly the Divisoria National High School some five kilometers from the city proper, is part of the strategy to decongest the Zamboanga City High School main campus in Barangay Tetuan, so does the opening of other high schools in Barangay Ayala, Talon-Talon, and very in Recodo recently.

Established in 1997 by the late “Ma’am Caling,” after which the school was named, the MCLLNHS, has a student population of approximately 3,000 students with 71 teachers headed by Principal Feliza Munar.

“Without this high school in Divisoria, where would the 3,000 students be accommodated in the city’s fastest growing barangay in the east coast?” Mayor Lobregat asked, justifying the construction of five school buildings over the last five years.

It was also disclosed that only last month, Lobregat inaugurated the newly rehabilitated two-storey six-classroom building worth P1.5 million at the Divisoria Elementary School.

— Noning R. Antonio

Orendain clarifies candle vendors issue

City caretaker and Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said the demolition of candle stalls Tuesday at Fort Pilar was a result of a consensus reached upon by the city government and the legitimate members of the Candle vendors Association as early as February.

Orendain said Mayor Celso Lobregat has personally discussed with the members of the association regarding the proposal to construct the Plaza del Pilar, a souvenir shop with parking space, in front of the Fort Pilar Shrine that required the clearing of the area.
He said the association members agreed with the idea and were informed that their business permits would no longer be renewed starting January to pave way for the project. Likewise, the candle vendors were informed that the project would start as soon as bidding of the project is over by March or April and that they will be relocated to a temporary site where they can continue with their livelihood until the construction of the Plaza del Pilar is completed.
According to Orendain, the earlier announcement that the vendors would leave the area by March or April did not push through as there was failure of bidding for the said project. The bidding, however, succeeded last August, thus, the issuance of the final notice last September 8.
The first notice was issued by the City Engineers Office January 15, 2009 (notice to vacate); the second was August 11 (notice to voluntarily demolish stalls) and the third was September 8 (notice to demolish stalls/ structures).
We have called the candle vendors association sometime February to explain about the project, they saw the perspective and they all agreed that sooner they will have a better place where they can conduct their business, the city caretaker said. When we ordered them to vacate the area last February, over half of them vacated and the others promised to leave the area as soon as the notice to commence the project is issued.
The association members were also surveyed and tagged by personnel from the City Housing and Land Management Division (HLMD) that would make them a priority to apply for space at the soon to be constructed Plaza del Pilar, Orendain said.
Demolition crew from the CEO Monday morning assisted the vendors who were voluntarily tearing down their stalls based on the notices issued to them. The city administrators office has not received any formal request for extension or opposition to the demolition process.
Orendain said Mayor Lobregat has allowed the utilization of the vacant area fronting the walls of the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) at the left side of the shrine.
To ensure ample space, the temporary stalls will have a uniform size2x4 square foot-tables and huge umbrella for vendors to sell candles and religious items.
The city caretaker yesterday instructed the Task Force Limpiesa to make sure that the setting up of the temporary stalls will be in accordance with what was agreed upon during the meeting between the city and the vendors. Some vendors met with Orendain yesterday morning seeking further instructions relative to their relocation.
While some vendors brought their plea to the City Council yesterday morning, those who met with the city administrator were already setting up their temporary stalls at the relocation site.
There was prior agreement and nothing can be changed right now, Orendain added.
The Plaza del Pilar project sits in a 7,328.87 square meters area. It costs P25.4 million.

I think, this administration is heading to the ditch..we have wrong set of priorities..

for thos 20below who will get a stall my answer is
YES posible it can aleviate for 2 reason

1 nasa pwesto sila na malinis at bago un building
2 un suki nila ay madali silang ma pin point of thier location

NOT if the fee for this stall is quit high enough na minsan d pa sila kumikita ayun sa buwis at rentals fee na ang pumupunta.

I think, the administration's priority is more on beautification over people's welfare..I think, this administration is heading to the ditch..we have wrong set of priorities..

I think, the administration's priority is more on beautification over people's welfare..Questio: upon the completion of Plaza Pilar, maaleviate ba ang lives ng mga candle vendors? hindi naman ah..

I think, this administration is heading to the ditch..we have wrong set of priorities..

^^Good Day Zabo Pips....

Its good thing namn na ma beautify nila ung area and magiging malinis na rn sya kaso ang tanung kung masasatisfy ba ung mga stall owners especially the one who are old vendors sa area im sure kung matapos na ung plaza Pilar super mahal na rin ung renta niyan now sinu pa mag stall jan do we still see the old vendors selling candles sa Plaza Pilar?do you think they can afford to rent what the City government do?im sure si lola pinang will never be there if ma open na yan im sure may nakapwesto and naka reserve na samga stall na to...Celso ay pakita lng na pro poor sya pero anti poor namn :lol::lol:

for thos 20below who will get a stall my answer is
YES posible it can aleviate for 2 reason

1 nasa pwesto sila na malinis at bago un building
2 un suki nila ay madali silang ma pin point of thier location

NOT if the fee for this stall is quit high enough na minsan d pa sila kumikita ayun sa buwis at rentals fee na ang pumupunta.

[/COLOR]

Ako kuya iba ang tingin ko this structures is to add the city income take note parks in cebu walang entrance fee but if you go to

Travelling merchants couldn’t sell products at Pettit Barracks
[ EMAIL THIS STORY TO A FRIEND ]
by Jimmy Villaflores Unlike in past years, the city government has prohibited travelling merchants from occupying and selling their products at a vacant lot fronting the City Museum.

Likewise, the merchants have been advised not to build stalls along the street of Valderosa leading to the Fort Pilar shrine for they will be charged for violating City Ordinance No. 248.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said that the area which is the traditional place where travelling merchants used to display and sell their products will be developed within this month or early next month.

The other area where the merchants had been occupying has already been developed as park—The Paseo del Mar.

The former Zamboanga City High School campus, now Central bank owned property, could not also be utilized since approval should come from Central Bank national office.

Because they were prohibited from occupying those mentioned areas, the travelling merchants, through the Barangay Council of Zone-IV, has instead appealed Lobregat to allow them to stay at Pettit barracks St. beside the Central Bank property and the Bureau of Internal Revenue building, which is the road leading to Zone-IV Barangay Hall.

In a letter of intent signed by Abraham Sakandal, Zone-IV barangay chairman and Hadja Merlinda J. Sakandal, president of the Travelling Merchant Group, 15 to 20 days period has been asked for the group to host a trade fair in the applied area to display native products coming from the different parts of the country.

However, said letter has not yet acted by the Office of the City Mayor pending the recommendation of the City Administrator’s office.

As early as last week, many of the travelling merchants already arrived in the city to work on the permit.

Their intention to be part of the success of this year’s ‘Fiesta Pilar Celebration on October 12 remains in the hands of Mayor Lobregat.

If in case Lobregat will disapprove their request, the travelling merchants have no choice but to return to their place in Luzon and Visayas. — Jimmy Villaflores

Maganda lang sya sa pic lalo na sa gabi pero if u visit not that kagandahan and not worth it to visit y
-ung mga plants/decoration not good to see lanta and kulang na ung mga plants sa area
-ung light post makalawang na(obyosly kakalawang cia e nasa sea yan e sea is composed of salt and steel rust if salt is present HELER:lol::lol::lol:)
-ung mga stalls niya di kaakit akit tingnan
-may bayad ung parking fee
-may bayad ung CR
-not really organize ung place
-some portion di pa natatapos needed millions again(OBYOS ulit d ba phase 1,2,3, and 4 un prodject na to?):bash::bash::bash:
-ung some area di pa pala nagagawa and for me its not worth it to visit and not worth it for the Zamboangueno to have it:ohno::ohno:its also obyos naman d worth to visit if mag window shopping ka lang kasi wala pera un iba but if you have money you can enjoy this paseo de mar bakit un mango entertainment area sa cebu before (d ba kuya wise)d naman ganun ka bonga a but since dami palahubg at may pera mga tao ayun ayus na and its so many people ang saya saya^^ un nga lang pina sera ni mayor osmeña ayun na mika ang mango for a while nia karun ni balik na sad medyo bonga na^^:lol::lol:

And you are not helping promote our city. You said even tourists complain about the place but the REAL TRUTH is that they've actually love it. :ohno:

True opinion is where you can suggest for new idea, while complaint is where your not satisfied lol^^

^^ MAREKLAMO KA MAN!.. Whats ur problem? Buti nga may park tayo na ganyan. Dapat nga magpasalamat ka na meron tayo mapapasyalan. YOUR RUINING THE IMAGE OF OUR CITY.. Tapos pinopost mo pa na not WORTH IT. Ano nalang isipin ng mga turista na nagbabalak na pumunta dito na nakikita un mga post mo. :ohno: MAGANDA nga ang Paseo. Ano ba gusto mo DISNEYLAND? :bash:

Thats the way how business student's do act...:)
Somehow i agree with Kua JK which Paseo del mar needs more facilities to get more effectiveness and efficiency while catering some visitors well!!!...^^

Correct! kung yun lang ang 25M then parang masyadong mahal ang ginastos. dapat ang ginawa doon ay parang Embarcadero de Legaspi para kahit lampas pa sa 25M ok lang kc worthwhile ang project. Let's respect each other's opinion as well as the image of our beloved city. We need leaders who are visionaries who will propel Zamboanga City to prosperity.

only the lights makes the project more expensive...250K ang bawat isang post which multiply into 15 posts while the tenant are costs about 60 to 80K..then include the cost of the little port which is under on the 2nd phase project (approx. 1,800,000.oo+) and many more~!!!...

^^ OPINION is different from COMPLAINTS. the way u said ur opinion seems to me its like ur complaining. You've said that 'Complain' of yours here SO MANY TIMES! Its annoying. All is set for Tourism Week in Zambo (http://positivenewsmedia.net/am2/publish/Tourism_24/All_is_set_for_Tourism_Week_in_Zambo.shtml)

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sept. 20 (PNA) -- Everything is set for the week-long observance of Tourism Week aimed to raise awareness on the potentials of this southern port city as a tourist hub.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, said the Tourism Week celebration scheduled from Sept. 20-26 will kick off with the 10th Drum and Lyre competition at the Paseo del Mar.

Lobregat said 10 elementary schools will compete with each other for the title.

The participating elementary schools are: Ayala; Ateneo de Zamboanga University; Baliwasan; Boalan; Lunzuran; Sangali; Sta. Maria; Tetuan; West Central School; and, Western Mindanao State University.

Lobregat said there will be free visit to various tourist attractions from Sept. 23-24 with elementary school students coming from the 11 school districts of this city as participants.

He said the student-tourists will be given the chance to tour around the Joaquin F. Enriquez, Jr. Memorial Sports Complex, the Fort Pilar Shrine, the City Museum, Paseo Mar and the entire Pasonanca Park.

He said the Tourism Week will be culminated with the Ayuda Limpiesa (Help Clean) Year 6.

Lobregat will spearhead the clean-up activity in major streets downtown including the public market, several downtown streets to Fort Pilar Shrine, the perimeters of City Hall and Sucabon River.

The week's celebration is being organized by the City Mayor’s Office through the City Tourism and Promotions Division.

Tourism is part and parcel of this city’s economy and its promotion is in line with the end goal of making this city as an important tourist hub.(PNA)
