Kaneda November 12th, 2003, 04:46 PM Never seen anything from this city before, and it was quite surprising. :) The Aegon Center looks pretty good, I especially like the top. :) so, 7/10 It needs some taller ones.

Louisville is located in Kentucky. The first pic was taken from the Indiana side of the river.

Mr. Big November 18th, 2003, 03:16 PM Pros: Aegon and Humana are great buldings. River really enhances skyline.
Cons: Still too many gaps from other angles
6.5/10
SeeMacau November 19th, 2003, 12:09 PM Need some taller scrapers !!
I like those buildings design in downtown area

lexkyguy December 18th, 2003, 12:40 AM Living in the second largest city in KY (Lexington)...I just have to say...I love the Louisville skyline. Lexington needs to catch up to Louisville in this regards.
james2390 December 18th, 2003, 12:54 AM this skyline is one of my favorites. i love the aegon center.
Master Wrench March 26th, 2004, 07:16 PM Very nice, many small cities would love to have something similar at least. 8/10
arielbender April 30th, 2004, 11:51 AM One of my favorite skylines for a city it's size. I think Lexington has moved past it with regard to population.
NewEnglander April 30th, 2004, 01:22 PM I love this city. Incredible urbanity.
NewEnglander April 30th, 2004, 01:23 PM P.S. Any plans to get rid of the freeway between downtown and the river?!??!!!????
Wu-Gambino May 2nd, 2004, 12:14 AM 5/10
Aegon and Gas and Eletric are nice, everything else sucks. The river makes it look better, I should have given it a 6.
Wu-Gambino May 2nd, 2004, 12:15 AM One of my favorite skylines for a city it's size. I think Lexington has moved past it with regard to population.
No, Louisville is much higher now ever since they merged the city with the county.
skylover May 2nd, 2004, 06:15 AM The skyline is surprisingly good for a midsized city.
7/10
Cardpooch May 3rd, 2004, 02:39 AM P.S. Any plans to get rid of the freeway between downtown and the river?!??!!!????
There were some preliminary discussions in the mid '90's to reroute the expressway South of downtown. It was decided that this would be too expensive and destroy even more historical buildings. Instead, the city invested millions into a park which is actually built partially underneath the expressway (just off to the East). This works well because on hot days you can park your car in the shade of the elevated expressway!
The park is also a success with the way it blends with the expressway. The freeway is like a kinetic sculpture that has been wrapped around a green oasis. It sounds strange but when standing at the river, the distant humm of vehicles almost sounds "relaxing" like the constant sound of a stream or waterfall. Whereas many city parks try to block out urbanity, this one blends seamlessly with it.
I'll try to get some pics soon.
pawsum May 3rd, 2004, 02:48 AM Pretty impressive. All it needs is one really distinctive supertall or relatively-tall (like the Bank of America Tower in Charlotte, NC) and it will be one of the best skylines for a city of its size.
Cardpooch May 5th, 2004, 06:21 PM Here are a few skyline pics from Waterfront Park including Louisville's newest highrise, Waterfront Park Place.

cool bldgs, skyline isnt that big though.
detroitboy04 July 16th, 2004, 04:38 AM With the new population of 700,000 the city will truly blossom!! Louisville recently got a new department store, Von Maur and hopefully can get a Saks Fifth Avenue to cater the snobby community!!

joshgekko August 31st, 2004, 10:03 PM Love the bridge at night.
gych September 2nd, 2004, 08:11 AM City pop for Louisville is over 700,000 making it the 16th largest in the US. The Louisville CSA is 41st at 1.35 million. People referring to it as a "small" city obviously haven't been there. Or perhaps that stereotype will never die until the city gets a pro sports team.
DallasTexan September 2nd, 2004, 10:49 AM I tell you what, gych - I (and the other Birmingham forumers) propose an alliance with Louisville so we both can attack Nashville and divvy up the spoils - We can have the Titans and you're more than welcome to the Predators :D
gych September 2nd, 2004, 10:52 PM yeah, nashville sucks. So does Indy. they ar eboring chain havens. Give me soul and culture any day. It is just a trend, Birmingham and Louisville are rising, and when the trend reverses and people see the value of old neighborhoods and historic architecture, B ham and Louisville will thrive. For now, the cities need to get their name out, and pro sports does it....even though I could give a DAMN about pro sports. Its so good for a city though as far as branding. The average Joe would group Louisville or Bham with Des moines or wichita or knoxville or lexington, etc. All us urbanites know, however, Louisville and Bham are a Nashville or Jacksonville without pro sports!!!!
Wu-Gambino September 2nd, 2004, 10:56 PM Yawn, there you go again saying Indy doesn't have any soul. :sleepy:
Ashram September 3rd, 2004, 02:26 AM 5/10 It's got a nice compact skyline. I'd give it more if it had a some taller stuff. It's alot better than some cities of it's size though.
Jules September 3rd, 2004, 02:36 AM Very nice, underrated city. 8.5.

I love Indy, great city, and it's certainly got "soul."
VanillaVille September 7th, 2004, 10:54 PM WTF!!!!!
Louisville has a nice skyline and everything, but 60th best in the world!? Did you see on the real-time list how many much better skylines are ranked behind it? Fifteen 10 votes!? Thirteen 9.5 votes!? That's ridiculous!
I think that the Louisville boys must have called all of their friends and had them log in to this website just to vote Louisville up. Oh well, whatever insecurities cause someone to do that aren't my concern. I'll leave that to them and their therapist.
But seriously, looking at Louisville as compared to every other city in the world, I'd give it a 6.5. It's a nice little skyline and slightly above average.
Although, as a perfect bit of justice against these 9.5 & 10 homers ruining our city skylines ranking, maybe we should call all of our friends and have them vote 3.5 & 4 (since 3 or less doesn't show up on the average score) for Louisville to bring it more in line with where it should be.
gych September 8th, 2004, 12:31 AM well thats your opinion, but ppl worldwide think very highly of the skyline so get over it man. shit, no one ever wants to throw this city a bone. If there was cheating, the city would be banned. There is definitely not cheating and no reason to cheat in this way. Hate on us all u want, i dont give a F*#$. But honestly, dont accuse us of this bullshit, that pisses me off.
Jules September 8th, 2004, 01:18 AM I like. 8.

STLSportsFan4 December 1st, 2004, 09:27 PM bullcrap city... I live here and it's a freakin dump... don't waste your time coming here. I'm moving to Denver or Houston or somewhere like that whenever I get the money
card04 December 1st, 2004, 10:20 PM What part of the city to you live in Booksman, PRP or somethin
STLSportsFan4 December 2nd, 2004, 01:22 AM No the West end... lol j/k... I live in New Albany on the Indiana side actually but its basically Louisville...
The city actually isn't that terrible, the weather isn't too great, but the main thing I don't like is I'm a huge sports fan and we have 0 major professional sports teams (like MLB, NBA, NFL, etc.) and I just want to move somewhere else that does.
The Cards aren't bad to watch but I just want some pro stuff other than minor league baseball.

Ok, so say we build a downtown arena and get a pro team...would you stay (read J bruce Miller's new book, Airball)? I think this city has a lot to offer that others dont. Mainly it has everything you need without the traffic, hassle, or high prices. I dont think pro sprts is the end all be all. It just pisses me off that we have Indy working against us to get the team. Also, we had an ignorant mayor and leadership, cheap taxpayers, and a backward governor. Still more, we missed the team bc Pitino and his University of Louisville arsenal would never allow it.
STLSportsFan4 December 4th, 2004, 01:21 AM We aren't going to get anything, if we ever did it would be the NBA but I want a city w/ NBA, NFL, MLB and possibly NHL and the day we get all of that in Louisville is the same day I land on the moon...
LouisvilleJake January 5th, 2005, 01:09 AM 8/10.
Louisville has one of the best skylines of any city its size and the pictures on here give the city absolutely NO justice. The view from the Indiana side is the absolute ugliest view of the city. When driving from 65 south, The Aegon Center looks almost deformed until you get close and see how really tall it is and how well it works. Eh, oh well.
i_am_hydrogen January 5th, 2005, 09:47 AM 5.5.
hauntedheadnc January 6th, 2005, 03:42 AM Very nice during the day and pure eye candy at night. The Aegon Center is one helluva signature tower. My only complaint is that pair of twin towers with the Churchill Downs-slash-pagoda cupolas on top. To me, twin buildings are much more aesthetically pleasing when they're taller and thinner. I give Louisville a 9. It's not the biggest skyline, but the buildings really work beautifully together!
LouisvilleCheerBoi June 6th, 2005, 01:30 AM I'm originally from Raleigh, and I have to say, I was very impressed by the Louisville skyline the first time I came to Kentucky. I fell in love with Humana when I first walked under it's atrium and the Aegon Center is amazing at night. The purple bridge lights and the purple roof of LG&E are also great accents for the night time skyline. Louisville has become one of my favorite mid sized skylines. 8/10
SoboleuS June 6th, 2005, 02:03 AM Small but dense cluster and some nice towers. Looks good. 7/10
MattSal June 25th, 2005, 10:07 PM A great city with a good skyline. I give it a 7/10.
juan_en_el_valle June 25th, 2005, 10:23 PM 9.5/10, very nice!
Eddy Gordo July 18th, 2005, 07:08 PM i think it needs more buildings. 8.5
cwilson758 July 18th, 2005, 07:59 PM not too much density for a City of its age, but the river and the bridges are awesome. I'd give it a 7
B@dGuYoM July 19th, 2005, 05:19 PM 7.5/10
eweezerinc July 24th, 2005, 12:54 PM Here are a few pictures to get a better feel of the spread for Louisville's skyline.
This one is from waterfrant park and just barely cuts out the Aegon center. This same situation causes for some very obnoxious views when looking at the skyline from the east because the downtown is on a grid, making the skyline appear to have bad gaps.

Houston (Bayou City) August 3rd, 2005, 12:01 PM I gave Louisville a 9. This city appears to be dense but it isnt.. the skyline is better than most cities its size.
Bonville August 7th, 2005, 03:08 PM High-rise Buildings at the river bank look nice. One of my friends who is from Louisville has showed me some pictures about the city and he also told me that the tallest building is a great hotel, right?

Nice skyline for its size!
Plasticman September 12th, 2006, 01:10 AM As it stands, I'd give it a 6.5. But I gave it a six after considering how Museum Plaza will look. If they change the design of MP and retain the height, then a seven.

mudvayneimn May 1st, 2007, 05:33 AM Ugh, I really wish they'd do something with that blasted PNC Bank Tower. It definately could be improved with a new facade, curtain wall, or freakin paint for all I care. To me it looks as if it's been in the radius of a big explosion and the only reason it hasn't been taken down is because it would cost too much money:gaah: ...Anywho, I took some pictures from Thunder weekend!

Brisbaner21 July 23rd, 2008, 03:50 AM What is with that new building? That building by itself is a 1/10. The skyline before it was a 8/10, with that thing it drops to a 6/10.

LOL will take my chances. It is the most ridiculous thing you can put in a skyline. Who would think of that? And it is all by itself, its not even together with the skyline.
