I know Charlotte representation on this board isn't what it used to be. On top of that, it seems like there are some projects in Charlotte that are flying under the radar. Here's one worth looking at. This is Bank of America's newest project, a 30-story LEED-certified office tower, winter garden atrium, and Ritz Carlton hotel. The hotel is topped out. The office tower is just about to emerge from street level. Here is the project's official website:

Click on "overview" for a really cool fly-thru video. This is definitely a great project that seems to be overshadowed by the Wachovia projects, NASCAR HOF project, and Vue. But I'm a big fan of this project. Enjoy.

That was my first time seeing the video, which was awesome. I hate the fact that two new skywalks are part of this project, though.

College Street is gonna have quite a few skywalks. Having said that, College is also turning into quite the urban canyon. Here is one of your pics from the development thread:

Aloft, One BofA, and the Ritz Carlton definitely add to College. Some street-level retail would definitely help though. Epicentre is a good start.

I can see having one skywalk, but two? Unnecessary.

Yeah, College is becoming just as dense as Tryon. Too bad we've got the BB&T tower and the Omni contributing nothing but blank walls to the streetscape. I'm interested in seeing what a renovated Founder's Hall will do for College.

The 2 skywalks really are just a split single skywalk, they go the same place. The only reason for the two is the angle feature on college st.

As for Street level retail. It will be great come 2012.

Between 4th and Trade: we'll have Epicentre (over 200,000 sq feet of retail), and Bofa Plaza is adding 12,000 sq feet of retail/restaurant space.

Between Trade and Fifth: Founders Hall is orienting itself toward the street finally, and 1 Bank of America Center as well as the Ritz Carlton will have Street level retail.

Between Fifth and Sixth: We will still have the same stuff. 2-3 bars a pizza place, Blue Restaurant, southern food restaurant, coffeeshop, bad realestate place and some other stuff. Hopefully we can get some more retail places outta this.

Between Sixth and Seventh: This is one I'm excited about, we already have our bar row on the right side of college st. But when the Spirit Square redevelopment starts to take shape, there will be a retail space, and a possible pedestrian plaza connection to tryon, on the left side. So if this all takes shape we could have 4 blocks of two sided entertainment and retail. While it won't be as great as Broadway in Soho, Peachtree in Atlanta, and etc. It will be great for us!!

Also I by 2012, we will have Omni, Aloft, Ritz, Holiday Inn, and the Sierra Hotel right in this general vicinity of College street. Hopefully this will bring people to the streets. I still have hopes for residential someday happening at 210 trade. I think there is still a good chance with things getting better between F&C and The Ghazi Company.

It should only be a matter of time before development starts pushing north of 7th. There are parcels ripe for development in that general area.

Oh I definately Agree!!! Its ripe for redevelopment. The next two blocks after 7th are part of the HalMarshall Land, and there is a ongoing plan for the area. And I'd have to imagine it would include retail spaces along College St! On neat thing thats happening with the levine land On the other side of the light rail is the addition of a street running along the lightrail for 2 blocks called Market Street. It will have lots of retail and be along the new 1st ward park.

Cool, didn't hear about Market Street. I'd love to see development push all the way up to I-77 in First Ward. I also can't wait to see something happen with the Brevard Street "stroll" district.

I heard a city counsel discussion of market street the other night. What a transformation that'll be if it becomes a reality.

Do you care to elaborate? I'm just wondering. I assume it was the First ward Neighborhood Meeting about the 1st ward park, I wasn't able to attend unfortunately.

Actually, now that you mention it, I think I'm confusing the two streets. The Brevard Court project is what I'm thinking of. They basically want to emulate King Street in Charleston, if I remember correctly. Wasn't Market Street part of the First Ward Park proposal that was being debated? Last I heard they thought the park was too close to the blue line.

While we're on the topic of Charlotte, how about that huge government bailout for the banks eh? This government bailout will benefit Charlotte more than any other city in America. No other city has all its eggs in the financial basket the way Charlotte does. As much as I'm opposed to these bailouts, at least I'm living in the city that benefits most from them.

Are you sure you aren't? I keep thinking you are for some reason. :poke: Well, i'm still going to Charlotte next month to slow down this highrise growth. I was watching the Panthers game last week and saw this tall concrete structure rising next to the stadium. It was just too much. Krazeeboi has announced that he is going to set up traps around Mecklenburg County. I'm going to go in undercover. :D

From what I hear they are pushing the park forward through permiting processes as I speak. UNCC and City Council want it to start to happen ASAP. Its being dubbed an "academic quad" has been very important part of the 2010 plan, and I think they'd like it to happen soon. I hadn't heard about the park being too close to the light rail thats new to me. From what I understand there was a meeting on the 17th about the proposal and there is a pdf floating around about the proposal they are trying to get through the permiting proposal.

I've dispatched the mafia from up here to go to charlotte to protect it from you. I have your entire house bugged. Look out your window... See that blue van, thats my boys watching you. U may make it to charlotte, but you might now make it out. Honestly tho, I'm not worried, I've never heard of anyone getting out of greenville successfully. Go to New Orleans instead...

I'm waiting to see what these mergers/acquisitions will do for Charlotte. I might need to start putting in some applications!

But on the serious side, events like these should urge us to diversify even more.

Agreed. Just as this bailout benefits Charlotte the most, a financial meltdown would've devastated Charlotte the most.
