Lervig Brygge Høyhus
Stavanger - Norway

A team consisting of three architect firms, Lund Hagem Arkitekter AS (http://www.lundhagem.no/), AtelierOslo (http://www.atelieroslo.no/) and Schønherr Landskab (http://www.schonherr.dk/) won the
competition between 5 competitors with their proposal to develope a larger residential site next to the fjord close to
Stavanger downtown. They want to build 4 buildings with 12, 14, 16 and 18 floors.

Not really...

Although I can't see what's bad with some more highrises in downtown Stavanger. I think that would work just fine (of course depending on design).

I agree with you kjetilab but only if its not destroying the old Stavanger. There are many building sites wich could be used for a highrise.

Yup, and Stavanger has a few high-rises in downtown, couldn't hurt to get some more in that same area... =)

Lervig Brygge is not directly in downtown, its in the new development project "Urban Sjøfront" east of the downtown as kjetilab showed in that map. They are also situated at a location where their shadows will never (exept early winter mornings) touch residentials or working places. Anyway, i would really not mind seen these proposed in Stavanger's highrise clauster in downtown.

Of course, Stavanger's "old town" should be kept as it has always been, not tuched by highrises like this.

Well, looks okey. Stavanger/Sandnes has many highrise projects, and that can be pretty cool if they build many of them together in the same area

There are many more buildings than just those on the pic that will be demolished.

I had many pictures on my pc of various old buildings in Stavanger that have now been demolished, but offcourse the harddisk had to crash :(

The thing is that because of lack of space the only solution is to demolish old buildings, and there have been many of those. There is even a not so old shopping mal (buildt 1987) that is waiting to be demolished.

Abandoned shopping mal in Stavanger set on fire by vandals

Quite nice project indeed!

Is the Stavanger downtown area you are talking about a very old an intact part of the city?

Stavanger is one of the Norwegian cities I hardly know how it looks like. I know where it is locateded, but not how it looks. I know the look of Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Bodö, Tromsö and some more, but surprisingly hardly nothing about Stavanger. And I was surprised to read in a newspaper recently that Stavanger is the third biggest city in Norway, if correct? I always thought that that was Trondheim, which I think is a more famous city in Sweden then Stavanger, probably because of the dome!

Trondheim town is bigger. But the urban area is bigger than trondheim which include Stavanger, Sandnes and Sola...

Stavanger is also the fastest growing of the two, fueled by the Norwegian oil-economy.

This is a part of the downtown in Kjetilab's circle. You can see the lake on the map.

Lokks like a nice city, there is something unscandinavian about it, at least on that picture!

And I was surprised to read in a newspaper recently that Stavanger is the third biggest city in Norway, if correct?

Largest municipality by population
Trondheim: 166 708
Stavanger: 120 798

Largest urban areas:
Stavanger: 181 280
Trondheim: 152 845

Largest metropolitian areas:
Stavanger: 288 176
Trondheim: 255 320

Population growth in municipality (1.1.2008 to 1.7.2008):
Trondheim: 166 708 (+1517)
Stavanger: 120 798 (+1212)

Note: Stavanger's urban area has a larger growth than Trondheim.

Lokks like a nice city, there is something unscandinavian about it, at least on that picture!

Stavanger has both the American-looking skyline and the historical Norwegian-typical history part with narrow streets and wooden buildings. Stavanger Domkirke is also a nice one (and old, from 1125), though much smaller and less famous than Trondheim's Nidarosdomen of course.

Ah yeah, the proposal is good, i ment it was obviously rejected since a different proposal is presented as the winning team on the first page. ;)

Ill edit it away to avoid further complications to others thinking i have a very strange sense of architectural taste!

Selvaag Bolig starts sales of building B and C this September, within their "PLUSS"-concept for housing. With it comes some final information, I think this thread seriously lacks.

The project consists of 4 buildings, with 188 apartments combined.

Building A will be 7 floors
Building B will be 8 floors
Building C will be 12 floors
Building D will be 16 floors

Selvaag expects to break ground 1st quarter 2013.

This render seems to give us something on how the towers will look like:

Don't think those buildings will be teared down, Ingenior!

Location of the "island" where the highrises are coming, is behind the left block.
