Park Regis is the tallest brick building in Australia containing both residential apartments and serviced apartments. It was to be Australia's tallest residential tower from 1968 to 1983 when the Peninsula Tower on the Gold Coast was built, eclipsing Park Regis by one metre. However it remained Sydney's tallest apartment tower until 1997 when Century Tower at 183 metres tall was completed.

A unique feature of this building is the rooftop 9m x 4m pool.

And a reminder that the shorter apartment tower attached next door to the tower, is a separate scraper.

A bit anonymous but nice anyway, I suppose it's one of those buildings that look best in the evening when many of the windows are lit up.

It's tall, simple, probably in good harmony with the rest of the skyline.. all in all it's okay so I give it a 7

You've gotta put this one into contect. It was designed in the early 60s...as Fabian has pointed out, the tallest brick building in Australia. Pretty amazing.

The horizontals were some kind of weird 60s idea for sun shading. they are about as wide as a nice balcony too.

In context, an understanding 8.

So Jo. You're right in saying it does look better at night. The crown with the crown ;) is floodlit.

Alas, these days it has much competition.

But I bet the bricks are just cladding. They could never take the weight of the building as bricks do on many low rises... that would be impossible for such a tall one ;) Still, it must be a great sight!

Bonus for the pool at the top.. you could have fun splashing water on the pedestrians down below. :D

Yes indeed Jo. The brick is mainly an infill as we can specifically see the continuation of the concrete floor plates ala the 60s sunshading i.e. concrete frame with infill.

BTW I think you would have to actually be throwing buckets of water for it to have any affect and not just "splashing". Otherwise it would just evaporate before dousing unsuspecting pedestrians.

A significant step forward in inner city living in Australia, but lets face it, it looks bloody awful (and don't try and tell me that it only looks ugly today because it was built in the 60's, there were some great looking apartment towers built in the 60's and this wasn't one of them;-)

The first pictures was sweet, but then I wasn't that impressed with the last two. Still a nice building though, but not very Sydney like. 6/10

There's nothing that special about this building at all. It's really bland, and I'm not that impressed by it. Considering it was built in the 1960's, I don't think I need to hear any more about it. ;)
