tayser October 21st, 2002, 05:43 AM I was amazed at how fast this one had had its core built when I walked past it on friday, 8 will create a nice little climax when you look at it from the Shrine, Melburnian > 8 > Sebel > RDT.

SteveMelb October 21st, 2002, 08:18 AM is there something about not being allowed to build very high along most of St. Kilda Road? noticing that all these taller/newer towers are all going up near the Shrine/Southbank instead of the main stretch of St. K Rd.
I need to take a drive down here sometime soon... haven't gone down there since May.
Grollo October 21st, 2002, 08:26 AM There is a 64m height limit on the northern half of St. Kilda Road and a 49m limit on the southern half, except for a small area near St. Kilda Junction which is 64m. These are not set in stone and you can apply to go higher if you can show it will not affect the amenity of the area.
Chevron and The Hallmark are two that have been approved higher than the height limit, but anything going any higher than around 75m won't get approved. Royal Domain Towers was a one off approval under the former Kenett Government as were the Melburnian towers. Buildings also have to step down towards Queens Road
redden October 22nd, 2002, 11:00 AM Mention of the Chevron reminded me:I was collecting a patient from the Alfred Hospital the other day,and was parked at the back looking at the Chevron, thinking about why the Chevron scheme fell over when a helicopter landed on the Trauma pad!Bloody noisy!I guess the noise factor gave more than one potential buyer pause;the tower would have been so close to the pad.

will be a decent area down there in a few years. RDT 161m, St James 120m, 8 Dorcas 66m?, an approved 90m office tower and a proposed 24L residential on one of the Ch7 buildings among others.
Cat April 5th, 2003, 10:04 AM great pic silvermb

Muse April 29th, 2003, 01:05 AM The anticipated completion date for 8 on Dorcas is June 2004.

Thats a great shot of St Kilda Road esp of the Shrine and Albert Park lake giving their relalive closeness to the city.
I thought that they were much further from Melbournes CBD!
A-brain April 29th, 2003, 01:47 AM Erm.. swinehead I'm not sure if your getting confusing but that shot doesn't show the CBD, and gives no indication of how close it is!!
The buildings you are looking lined up behind the shrine are just St.Kilda Rd's row of mid-rises ! The CBD is behind the camera and much taller !

Sorry if I confused you but what I was trying to convey was that you cant tell normally how close Albert park is to the city and I have been to Melbourne many times as I have relos there so I do know where the CBD is
silvermb May 22nd, 2003, 01:44 PM a couple of new angles to gawk at, really does slip in under everyones radar

what about just down the street and across the road from 8 on Dorcas - there's a row or two of one - two level offices /shops - I seem to remember mb talking about proposals there?
and there was something about the Channel 7 offices in the same area ?
nice pics mb - although, you sort of gave away another of your pic vantage points the other day :guns1: ah well ;)
tays
silvermb May 22nd, 2003, 02:34 PM yep Tays a 90m office tower and a proposed 24-level residential on the old channel 7 buildings
Tays i'm not too worried about giving that one away, the day you walk past QV from RMIT Bourke st to get a photo i'll be impressed. Besides no one else seems to be taking photos of 8Dorcas
Aussie Steve May 23rd, 2003, 02:42 AM They have also relaunched the old Panama Apartment site in Sturt Street, Southbank. I drove past it this morning and its now called the Malthouse Apartments. New design, new building. Let's hope it gets built this time!

silvermb August 21st, 2003, 04:35 AM pretty sure its just the three level crown that remains to be built, it's a weird tower, those balconies on the rear look like cages and ive never seen a tower of this size have a pre-fab core, no core box at any stage

tayser August 21st, 2003, 09:27 AM nice pics mb!
Just today I only noticed for the first time its presence above the canopy from the East - "interesting" tower, still waiting for big momma RDT though ;)
Muse August 21st, 2003, 09:39 AM "Probuild" even sounds like a pre-fab construction company.
tayser December 19th, 2003, 01:08 PM Well, I've been working near this thing for a while now, and my impression of it: NASTY nasty nasty western wall / facade.
Someone buy up the Hertz office and redevelop it so we can cover the nastiness.
other angles seem to be ok though.
