Em 11 de março de 1872, a lei provincial nº. 7, elevou o povoado à
categoria de Freguesia do Espírito Santo da Boa Vista.


Em 1885 a Frequesia teve anexado território desmembrado de Itapetininga
e foi elevada a município pela lei nº. 27 de 10 de março do mesmo ano.

A instalação efetuou-se em 5 de fevereiro de 1887.

Em 1908 a Lei n. 115, alterou o nome para Angatuba que, em tupi-guarani
significa "assembléia dos espíritos", "morada dos espíritos" ou "mansão das
almas". Existem historiadores que afirmam que Angatuba significa, em
tupi-guarani, "fruta-doce", ou Anga= fruta e tuba= doce.

Bom ver esta cidade por aqui! Nota-se que é uma cidade bem simples...
Mas tem algo bem legal que aparece aí (comum nas cidades mais antigas) que são as casas antigas onde as portas e janelas dão diretamente para a rua... Casas construídas numa época onde nem se pensava em garagens para os "futuros" carros... A casa da foto 08 simboliza bem isso...
Hoje em dia se construírem uma casa sem garagem, ela desvaloriza completamente...

Gosto de ver treads com cidades pequenas, realmente Angatuba é desconhecida, a área interna da igreja é bem bonita.

Eu não sei por que cargas d'água eu li "Araçatuba" ao invés de "Angatuba" no título do thread!! Já ia falar que Araçatuba não é inédita aqui no SSC :lol:
A cidade é típica de interior e parece valorizar suas construções históricas, ato que está em falta em várias cidades.... Parabéns!
