Dompcz October 1st, 2008, 04:44 PM No, I'm not going to post only more or less nice projects. :) In next few posts you'll see photos from Pašilaičiai district. Some of the ugliest developments in Vilnius are located in Pašilaičiai. Though it has some advantages too. The flats in this district are the cheapest in Vilnius.

Dompcz October 1st, 2008, 05:51 PM Now we'll go to the district of Žvėrynas which is quite close to city center (on the other bank of Neris river). This district is where richer people live. Some embassies and office buildings are located there too.

vycanismajoris October 3rd, 2008, 09:16 AM wow, that's a lot of new residentials, very nice ones (doesn't look like commies to me :))! BTW i saw Kempinski is under construction there, how many 5-star hotels do you have in Vilnius?
Dompcz October 3rd, 2008, 02:52 PM ^^ There are four five star hotels now and Kempinski will be fifth.
Dompcz October 5th, 2008, 02:11 PM Shopping center "Panorama". It is U/C for a very long time now (this is Estonian project ;)). Though next month it's going to be opened, so there will be more photos and also from interior. Exterior is nothing special, just a simple box. Good thing about this shopping center is that it has huge underground parking instead of large simple parking like at "Akropolis". When opened this will be the second biggest shopping center in Vilnius (but not for a long, when other projects will be finished it'll be fourth).

About 130 mln. Euros
Vecais Sakarnis October 7th, 2008, 10:01 AM About 130 mln. Euros
Another one proof that in Lithuania construction costs are much lower than in Latvia. Here National Library construction (of course, it's not simple building, but still) costs more than this amount. I'm afraid to think how much could cost such a large and modern stadium.

130 mln. of Euros, 450 mln of Litas...
Laser technologies, biotechnologies, IT sector, mechatronics, nanotechnologies... :pet:

The same can be said about Kaunas arena, ain't it? :)
@Vecais Sakarnis: Most of people here say that 130 mio EUR is way too much for a stadium of 25 000 places.

Anyway, I think that Vilnius stadium will look cool and it's not "cheap architecture" that's why I think it is something of larger scale than this (which, of course, also isn't "cheap architecture"):
http://lv.lv.allconstructions.com/f/image/filename/9318/gaismas_pils_01_01.jpg
But I could be wrong.
Dompcz October 7th, 2008, 07:19 PM ^^ We'll see how National stadium will look like and also we'll see how much it will cost. It's very hard to trust given numbers when objects are being financed by government. Lets take Royal palace for example, at the beginning it was said that it'll cost only 120 mio LTL, now it doubled and we still don't know if it's the final cost.
Giedrius_LT October 7th, 2008, 07:20 PM The same can be said about Kaunas arena, ain't it? :)
Believe me, I'm happy for this stadium very much (and, while I'm not from Vilnius and I can't see those changes beeing done every day, I'm surprised to see the amount of enginery at work and this just doubles my happiness) ;)
As I've said, ignore that post. Those feelings could appear regarding most of the projects, which are implemented at the moment in Lithuania.
:wtf: :dunno: What did you mean?
I mean that Lithuania should systematically ask for all the aforesaid thecnologies sectors what do they need to start booming. They should give a mile-lenght lists and our government should start starving, to stop the time if they will need to and to reverse the Earth, but give them anything what they'll need. ASAP.
But let's forget offtopic.

In my opinion, Guggenheim-Hermitage museum will surpass them both.
Dompcz October 7th, 2008, 07:41 PM ^^ Recently some numbers were given for Guggenheim-Hermitage. It'll cost 120 mio dollars. If this number is correct, it'll not surpass any of them in terms of price. Personally I tend to believe that this number is more or less correct because Guggenheim-Hermitage museum in Vilnius is not going to be a big building if I remember correctly total area will be ~13 000 square meters.

I wasn't talking about the price :) About the architecture. Ofcourse, it's hard to compare those buildings directly and all of them are worth some compliments.
Dompcz November 7th, 2008, 07:51 PM Today Estonians with three buses and one airplane are visiting their biggest investment in Lithuania. That investment is shopping center "Panorama" in Vilnius. For now it is the second biggest shopping center in Vilnius (will be fourth when Ozas and Akropolis II will be finished). It also has the biggest underground parking in the Baltic states. Dompcz January 23rd, 2009, 06:12 PM Old news, but they were not mentioned here yet: as economic situation is getting worse, construction works of National stadium are being stopped. It seems that we'll have normal stadium only in some 2100 year, maybe. :)
Interesting to compare with Latvia which is even in deeper crisis but they still keep building National library.

I think the library is also paused, or slowed down at least, I read is somewhere on the net.

There is more - our Minister of Culture (Demakova) shortly before New Year secretly signed a contract about further designing of acoustic Concert hall for about 7 mio lats (some 35 mio lits)! It was a big scandal, but the contract is still in force.
