Yes, it's officially ready and can handle sports and other events. There still are some minor issues like some unfinished landscaping near the arena but those are trivial. The most important thing is that it's now up and ready for Eurobasket 2011 which will be the most hardcore test including the final games. But for the time being it's ready and is the largest (and I would say the most architecturally fascinating) arena in the Baltic countries. :)

By the way, interesting how both Siemens Arena in Vilnius (built in 2004) and Z Arena will complement each other. One could ask why area of just a bit above 1 million residents needs two modern arenas with 10,000 seats. But reality is that Z arena will host Euroleague matches as well as national team and other major basketball events - likely Euroleague final 4 in few years. On the other hand, when hosting concerts, Siemens arena is actually bigger due to its shape resembling horse shoe and therefore all the biggest music events are expected to be hosted in Siemens (e.g. Elton John, Kylie Minogue this year alone).

Anyway, so happy there is a good arena in Kaunas now.

And the arena capacity for basketball is officially 15442 or maybe even 17442 for some basketball games. Write that down. And I also believe it's time for this arena to go to the "Completed" thread? Well yeah, logo will be added and the last floor will be covered, as well as the LED lights in the interior but that's pretty much it...It's officially completed.

I was at game yesterday, and arena is awesome. How can you say, that stozice is more impressive while even the seats at Kaunas is better than in O2 arena, London, while seats in stozice are plastic..? The jumbotron is biggest in Eastern Europe. And it is designed so, that viewers would be as close as possible to the basketball court, that's why it might not look so huge. Yesterday at game between Spain and Slovenia there was 11K viewers, while there still were a lot of seats empty. That shows how big it is. While the evening match had 15000 spectators.

dont be angry (maybe you will get medal 2013, good luck:banana:), i just say my opinion :), no offense guess from randers and pictures i was expecting something different (especially the size, im probably used to higher roof from our arena), yeahh there are better materials used in your arena (jumbo, seats and thats all). Ok and also the led ring is better and higher quality then our.:) But all together (the inside and outside) im disappointed. But I wish you lot of success and lots of occupied seats at all events in arena.

No, you are right about exterior of the arenas, we just can't compare Stozice to Zalgiris arena, Stozice looks awesome from outside ;) But the interior looks way better at Z arena ;) imo good luck fighting for 7th place :D

Really, I don't know, tommorow I will be in game, so after this I can say, but I think, that seats are beetween first floor and second floor (VIP)

There was not much to add cause capacity was 15442 when opened. Two rows of seats where added between first and second (VIP) floors. But that was done in the beginning of the season. So that means 15680 seats where since Zalgiris started playing there.

Why the Arena wasn't sold out on the matches against Panathinaikos, CSKA, Maccabi Electra and FC Regal Barcelona? Is this because of the not so good results or maybe expensive tickets?

Thank you for this information! I asked because I saw few pictures from Zalgiris home matches (from LKL and VTB) and it seemed that there are few thousand fans and I wasn't wrong. :) I hope next year you will have more stronger team and that your average attendance will be at least 13k. As I can conclude, Kaunas is more basketball city than Vilnius.

Aiwa
March 2nd, 2012, 12:00 PM
Well I think that average attendance is good, we got almost 12k average during VTB League which is pretty good. And talking about LKL it’s normal to have low attendance although 7k is not low it is biggest out of all teams in Lithuania. Not much of a competitive teams in LKL only Lietuvos rytas, Vilnius. So no intrigue games for spectators.

I think it's not imposible. You know European Unions countries relations with Belarus.
Moreover, in Lithuania ice hockey is not popular...
By the way, capacity for ice hockey @ Zalgirio arena is 13,762 seats :)

Just after 7 days first time @ Žalgirio arena - ZALGIRIS vs. Lietuvos Rytas!
Tickets soluble very quickly, and people buying it in all Lithuania, not just in Kaunas.
Cost of tickets (if it's interesting for sb): the cheapest ticket price is 20 litas (5,80 euros). The most expensive ticket cost 80 litas (23,19 euros). For pupils / schoolgirls, for students, and for seniors - 30 percentages discount.
By the way, I can explain why against CSKA was just 15'000. All tickets was SOLD OUT, just VIP lodges/suites wasn't full. In arena VIP zone (lodges, suites) have about 1000 seats. But I thinking, that on next week in arena will be more than 'just' 15'000 fans! :)

So Zalgiris will earn more than 250k euros just from one match. That's good business policy.

This is good mount of money only from one match. :)
Do you know how much money can earn Zalgiris from this season? Will they get millions only from tickets?

well, I haven't stats about that, but I think, that few millions will be :) You know, about 5000-6000 for owners of season tickets. The average of season ticket was about 350 litas (about 100 euros).I think, Zalgiris will earn few millions just from tickets, because arena operator and Zalgiris owner are one company - UBIG. :)

By the way, after yesterday events in arenas was watched over then 600'000 people.

Hello, for everybody! Yesterday in "Žalgiris" arena was really hot, true hell, because first time Žalgiris played against Lietuvos Rytas @ "Žalgirio" arena. In second quarter we down by 18pts, but with amazing crowd, we back to the game, and win 86:81! You know, how was hard to played in old Kaunas arena (Kaunas Sports Hall), but yesterday we reached next level - Kaunas and Lithuania never heard something like yesterday. I don't know real stats, but I think, in last quarter noise level was about 130-150dB!!!!! 14'105 fans reached new Lithuanian Basketball League record. And I think, that is not over. If you want to see, what is real hell - come to Kaunas! I writed a letter to arena and they will assemble decibel meter. You can't imaging, what was in Kaunas at last quarter. Thanks for all crowd, and for team :)

"Zalgiris" coach: "When it comes so big crowd (15,266), it motivates us even more. Thanks for basketball players, club staff, administration. Many thanks to viewers who are just wonderful. Their support - unique because it is natural. They go for there is nothing here, so I am very pleased to see so many happy people.

I am very happy to won the title - before the arrival of the "Zalgiris", for me that was one of the biggest challenges.

Now, I hope only to celebrate and relax. The decision on the work I do not accept. If I say that I like to work here, then I stay here and continue the work. "

Marko Popovic: ""I am very proud of my team coach. I am honored to be in this team and city. Many thanks to all.

We were the better team.

At the end of the season, the team we were surrounded by a great atmosphere."

Kaunas celebrate the victory till the morning :) By the way, our coach said, that LKL trophy is better than VTB 3rd place (I think, he mean L.Rytas 3rd place)

We did won Euroleague in 1998-1999 season, and everybody was in euphoria the team was greated by more than 300k fans near airport. But no one reunited with russia? And why do we have to? Why russia? Why reunite when we was oppressed for so long?? Man... think before wrighting something.
