I wonder what is happening???? Fabian August 21st, 2003, 11:47 PM Six months and nothing has happened!!! You have to wonder if this tower is ever going to get off the ground at the rate that it is going. Muse August 22nd, 2003, 12:00 AM I make detours every so often to see if anything is happening at the site. Last time I walked by there about a week ago, all this windswept garbage was gracing the stairs of what used to be their salesroom. Signs are still up as so is the website. I know they were having trouble finding adequate construction staff due to all the other projects happening or about to happen. heyhey August 22nd, 2003, 08:46 AM Maybe your right, I'm not sure. I walked past today, and your right all you see is garbage on the door step........... Muse December 3rd, 2003, 01:34 AM Walked by there last week. Old glossy blue 2/3 storey art-deco number had still not signs of being yanked down as yet. Any CULS, get your ass over there for a pic anyway ASAP. There may have been "movement at the station" to coin an old phrase, since last week. CULWULLA December 3rd, 2003, 04:55 AM first pic of site commencement-yeah http://www.emporis.co.uk/files/transfer/6/2003/12/233053.jpg Muse December 21st, 2003, 07:32 PM Passed the site last Saturday afternoon, and on both sides of the glossy blue painted low-rise deco builiding, the guys were starting to pull it down. :) :) Muse January 25th, 2004, 02:38 AM ^ It's down ^ heyhey January 25th, 2004, 11:04 AM YEAH!!!! Syd-Hk July 28th, 2004, 03:40 PM Is that how big the construction site is? or the core? SinCity July 29th, 2004, 05:51 AM Finally action on this one! CULWULLA July 29th, 2004, 06:50 AM Is that how big the construction site is? or the core? its just below grd level. it will rise very soon! climbing_crane July 29th, 2004, 07:18 AM That was the whole site. Actually I can't even remember seeing a core, or even a crane. climbing_crane August 14th, 2004, 02:02 PM If the render proves true it should be a niceish building. CULWULLA September 28th, 2004, 06:56 AM core is two levels above grd http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/culwulla/commonsept28.jpg SinCity October 1st, 2004, 03:09 PM At least theres some movement on this site! Trances October 1st, 2004, 03:20 PM yep walked past it yesterday looks great glad to see it after so long Muse November 20th, 2004, 08:46 AM Well, after such a loooooong wait for this one to start up, it's steaming ahead. The core is almost half way (and it is quite a big core for such a small footprint too) Maxtor November 22nd, 2004, 06:35 AM Thanks goodness, it sat there for ages ....... CULWULLA November 23rd, 2004, 04:55 AM 9th level on corebox http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/culwulla/commonnov23.jpg CULWULLA December 14th, 2004, 05:24 AM this ones zooming up! http://img32.exs.cx/img32/4002/commondec143xd.jpg ParraMan December 19th, 2004, 12:47 PM I was walking around that area today and it's looking great, and really zooming up! It was hard to count the floors due to the meshing, but looked about core 12 and floorplates 10 or so. The Alberta St facade already has some pretty funky loking facade stuff happening. Cheers Muse December 19th, 2004, 02:06 PM It's interesting to see the northern aspect is a blank wall. It's right next to 9 Commonwealth St which houses the offices of ACON (AIDS Council Of NSW), a redundant 60s 3-storey office building. Dunno how long ACON's lease is on the building but if or when they relocate, it will hopefully be yanked down as it's horrible. If so, we may eventually see a scraper of similar height of both The Common (63m/207ft) and The Travelodge (75m/246ft). If it eventuates, Commonwealth St will have a nice mid-rise scraper wall. :) 9 Commonwealth St is the one in the foreground of CULWULLA's pic of 23 Nov. - see above. .... CULWULLA December 20th, 2004, 12:00 AM ^ its funny how Travelodge is 75m high and Common is 63m but Common will be a floor higher then travelodge when completed, due to RL slope. Muse December 20th, 2004, 12:35 AM Yeah CULWULLA, I've noticed that in the previous renders yet it's hard to imagine that the RL increases by 12m/39.5ft!! It must be taken from the Travelodge's Goulburn St side and not from on the Commonwealth St side. CULWULLA December 20th, 2004, 01:20 AM ^ i think also Travelodge has a large plantroom which is what height is measured to. i think its less then 70m to roof from goulburn st. climbing_crane December 26th, 2004, 02:18 PM Not a bad site. Should be average CULWULLA January 19th, 2005, 05:23 AM level 17? already! looks like there trying out a colour blue on its side not far to go. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/culwulla/commonjan19.jpg Muse January 23rd, 2005, 05:14 AM The northern blank wall of The Common suggests that the 3-storey daggy building @ 9 Commonwealth St may eventually come down. It's a pretty sad and redundant waste. Looking down, looking up: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/509/379commononcommonwealth1-med.JPG__http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/509/379commononcommonwealth3.JPG CULWULLA January 23rd, 2005, 11:45 PM we have already done "concept" tower for Commons northern wall and the proposal can go 60m, so it will eventually be a wall in future. CULWULLA February 4th, 2005, 05:29 AM almost topped out http://img217.exs.cx/img217/1230/commonfeb55up.jpg Blue_Copper February 4th, 2005, 12:33 PM this is a nice little building CULWULLA February 8th, 2005, 05:10 AM http://img224.exs.cx/img224/5915/commonrearfeb83qq.jpg checkout the 60's rear facade. http://img224.exs.cx/img224/5889/commoncloserear8zi.jpg SinCity February 8th, 2005, 07:15 AM About time. We all waited ages for this one. Pity is wasnt bigger. CULWULLA February 16th, 2005, 04:46 AM topped out! http://img145.exs.cx/img145/1946/commonfeb162xt.jpg Vitriol February 16th, 2005, 05:37 AM I'm not quite sure what the fuss is all about. All I see is concrete. Is there supposed to be some sort of architectural uniqueness here? Blue_Copper February 16th, 2005, 12:14 PM where is this tower? i dont who that street zulu69 February 16th, 2005, 02:17 PM I'm not quite sure what the fuss is all about. All I see is concrete. Is there supposed to be some sort of architectural uniqueness here? Well the funny thing is that buildings only have concrete when they are getting built. Check out the render and actually wait till the thing is at least finished to make your judgement. CULWULLA February 16th, 2005, 02:30 PM dont worry zulu, vitriol doesnt like any building. Peter- Common faces Commonwealth st and backs onto Alberta st. CULWULLA March 8th, 2005, 05:01 AM core box dismantled. 1 floor to go. the front of this one will be something worth waiting for. http://img83.exs.cx/img83/257/commonmar82zt.jpg SinCity March 8th, 2005, 06:00 AM Im hoping something eventually ends up alongside that sheer blankness on the side. The front looks OK. Blue_Copper March 8th, 2005, 08:20 AM a Giant Painting should go on that wall like a cubisim paintin with a frame CULWULLA March 15th, 2005, 05:20 AM just about there http://img223.exs.cx/img223/9800/commonmarch150ou.jpg CULWULLA March 29th, 2005, 05:51 AM today. http://img103.exs.cx/img103/5885/commonmar286fz.jpg CULWULLA May 2nd, 2005, 07:20 AM well not sure its going to be a two-tone blue scheme or one of them is an undercoat? http://img200.echo.cx/img200/8776/commonmay21yv.jpg Vitriol May 2nd, 2005, 04:08 PM Crikey, they had better cover up the side with something. It's like our worst fears have come true... a giant concrete slab. CULWULLA May 2nd, 2005, 04:50 PM Any highrise development sharing a property line in Australia CANT put windows on that face. makes sense? it has to be blank. the site next door will no doubt be developed within a few years.thus- blank wall gone. SinCity May 4th, 2005, 03:39 AM I hope a proposal comes soon to cover up that blank wall. Its simply too much. Muse May 6th, 2005, 10:46 PM well not sure its going to be a two-tone blue scheme or one of them is an undercoat? http://img200.echo.cx/img200/8776/commonmay21yv.jpg^ Checked it out yesterday afternoon, and the light blue was the undercoat. The whole side is now the darker colour as above; a kind of grey with a slightly blueish hue. Looks great. The front facing Commonwealth Street was completely covered in mesh and where the yellow balconies shown in the render below, the mesh was jutting out to accommodate them: _________________________________http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/509/379commononcommonwealth3.JPG papervagina May 7th, 2005, 04:35 PM They'd just about finished taking the crane down when I walked past about 10 minutes ago. I was quite surprised to see them doing this at night. CULWULLA June 6th, 2005, 06:35 AM today http://img295.echo.cx/img295/9274/commonjune62bh.jpg SinCity June 6th, 2005, 07:50 AM Nice pic. Imagine it twice or three times as tall. I like the yellow balconies and the irregular facade at the top! What a cool little tower! CULWULLA August 23rd, 2005, 09:29 AM yeah i agree. its original 90m height would of been perfect. it would of stood out more. Muse August 23rd, 2005, 10:59 PM Nicer than your average. Loving the top glass angled section. I'll always think they are Preston bins though. ParraMan August 23rd, 2005, 11:22 PM Great to see finally the facade is down. This has turned out just as good as I expected since seeing the first ad in the smh or something for this a few years ago. Great building! Vitriol August 24th, 2005, 06:57 AM What's the deal with the missing letters on the American Express building? Too cheap to take the rest down? zulu69 August 26th, 2005, 07:17 AM I'm not quite sure what the fuss is all about. All I see is concrete. Is there supposed to be some sort of architectural uniqueness here? Lol. This comment is even funnier with those great pics Cul posted. Lesson for all you kids out there ;) This building looks great, pity it wasn't built at its intial height. Btw is the turning torso still proposed?? CULWULLA August 26th, 2005, 09:03 AM just ignore vitriol, hes our blabbyboy. yes zulu, the turning torso for 157 liverpool (next to Amex) is being developed by Shortland properties and the DA stage 2 will be submitted soon with construction to start 2006. James Saito August 26th, 2005, 11:08 AM The yellow balconies are sticking out too much IMO.
