Rica Hotel Narvik
Narvik - Norway

Construction of Rica Hotel Narvik started in July 2010 and is planned to be completed in February 2012. The hotel will be 76m tall with 15 occupied
floors and a smaller service floor on top of the building. Top roof height is at 54.5m, but with a 21.5m spire added on top of the highrise it makes
the building 76m tall. This makes it the tallest highrise building north of Molde (Rica Seilet (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v646/cityq/Norway%20and%20Nature/DSC_0205small.jpg) is 82m tall) This will become the largest hotel in Narvik
with 150 doublerooms and a smaller conferance hall with 200 seats. 15th floor will be occupied by a small skybar and two larger and more
expencive suites while the 16th floor will be a service floor not avaliable for the public or hotel guests. Price is estimated to be around 140 million
Norwegian Kroner (NOK) (http://www.xe.com/).

Where did you get the heights from Þróndeimr? It's a beautiful building indeed, so let's hope it get built.

Where did you get the heights from Þróndeimr?

I compared it to the mountain in the background. ;)

Madsø Sveen have a PDF (with some blueprints), and was lucky enough to find the one link to it. However, they doesn't say exactly how tall it is, so i used simple math. Do your own calculations (i might be wrong), Presentasjon Hotel PDF (2 865kb) (http://www.narvikgaarden.no/prosjekt_vis.asp?did=2).

let's hope it get built.

I think this one have a pretty good chance to get approved and built, seems like everyone is positive towards it up there. Hopefully it will be, because Narvik needs this one. And hopefully the final version will look as good as on the renderings, since i didn't have anything positive to say about Madsø Sveen's latest highrise project, 47m tall Horisont (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=19134823&postcount=158) in Trondheim.

The render for Horisont wasn't much to go extatic over, and neither was the completed building. This is a completly different class if you ask me. And so very different from the planned Rica Hotel in Moss.

Thanks for the link mate!

I agree. It would have fitted well into the area around Skøyen railway station. It looks good for Narvik as well.

Vegvesenet has decided not to protest, even tough it's smack in the middle of uncertain future road-solutions:

Silly to protest to be honest. I partly grew up in Narvik (well not really true i lived there for a year as a kid) and now there's not much to see in town except the natural surroundings. They might have a point considering the glass though. Maybe would been smarter to build a highrise more suitable to the climate.

That girl Bostad look a lot like Maggie Gyllenhaal though Blonde version. http://gfx.api.no/image-versions/www.fremover.no/298x510r/02557/1240933860000_anja2_2557127298x510r.jpg

I would not mind if they redesigned it a bit, making it more with a Northern Norway local architectural impression, since the current design is just another typical international building. :)

I was thinking, what a waste, but then I realized that Narvik had more inhabitants than I thought, almost 14 000 making it the 31st most populous in Norway! I guess that gives a basis to build a big hotel! At least since it's the heaviest populated region in Nordland as far as I heard.

Should be higher than 50 meters tho!

Spearman
July 3rd, 2009, 03:47 PM
Bodø is the biggest in Nordland. But yeah, 55m isn't really that big, so it's not going to be a problem.

One more rendering (http://www.fremover.no/lokale_nyheter/article4629288.ece): Has been some criticism amoung the opposition that this building has been falsely rendered to look lower than it is:

Surprisingly it does actually have some tall buildings, the city hall, and about 4 residentials (commies) at roughly 14 floors or so.

Narvik has little available space to grow due to it being stuck between water and mountains. One of the main arguments for the mega-bridge project over the fjord was to get some space for development.
