Federal Republic of Mindanao..hehehe

Would you guys favor a separate Mindanao Republic, but then again the Christians would have to move out of the island, as some of our Muslim brothers who are fighting for a separate state have said that they have been disenfranchised by the Christians who settled in Mindanao?

It's a very complicated subject following your thesis there. We might never get to a conclusion. Federal Republic is for all the people in Mindanao, not just southern and northern Mindanao, not just for christians but also for muslims alike.

^^

I remember kasi in Apollo Quiboloy's channel, Mayor Duterte was interviewed and I remember him saying that if ever there will be a Mindanao Republic and the muslims would not agree to Christians being the majority, he would have to draw a line. So for example, this area here will be for christians and that area there for muslims.

tama siya. the muslims have their turf somewhere in the Cotabato and Lanao Areas and some part of western Mindanao and they know that. Christians know as well where their places are.

Largest data firm in US to settle in Oro

AMERICA'S largest survey research data collection company, Western Wats, expressed its intention to establish a branch in Cagayan de Oro.

Western Wats Philippines president Chris Mangelson recently met with Mayor Vicente Y. Emano to discuss the details of its planned investment in the city.

Emano gladly welcomed Western Wats' intention as the said information technology (IT) firm will look for an area in the city for their building and will initially employ around 1,500 persons.

The Utah-based firm provides services to more than 200 clients worldwide. These services include Wats Live Interviewing, Wats Online Web Surveys, Wats IVR Surveys (automated voice messaging), and Wats Data Express Online Data Analysis and Custom Real-Time Reporting.

With its most advanced, fully integrated data collection platform on the market, W.I.R.E.', Western Wats operates globally throughout its offices located in the United States, Canada, and the Philippines (Cebu).

The firm's interest in the city is already a big boost to the city's growing reputation as the fastest booming economy in the country.

Emano pointed out that this latest development in the field of investment generation in the city is a positive sign of the continuing trust and confidence placed by the investors in the economic potentials of the city. (CIO)

With what's going on now with some projects in mindanao. I don't know if the major projects in Butuan City will be affected also.

But anyway, with what's going on. Reminds me of some comments from politicians in Cebu, radio/print commentators and the whole of Central Visayas. There was once a proposal to build a 3rd Mactan Cebu Bridge (10 - 12 billion), 2nd Runway for MCIA (4 billion) and around 3 more new flyovers in Metro Cebu.

During the Central Visayas Regional Development Council Meeting. Governors and Mayors from Siquijor, Oriental Negros and Bohol said that Cebu is getting or being like imperial Manila. Cebuanos clearly understand that, and the common comments of some famous media personalities here and politicians is that "YOU REALLY HAVE TO LOBBY FOR PROJECTS AND FUNDS FOR PROJECTS IN MALACAÑANG". It's not Cebu's fault if they don't lobby or nobody will lobby for them in Malacañang. But Cebu politicians pointed out very strongly and clearly that even if Malacañang doesn't give Cebu any funds. Cebu can build those proposals just like the 5 billion SRP and 800 million CICC.

Our politicians here in Cebu hate imperial Manila too...but not the people, only the politicians and their policy.

That's why let's vote wisely in the coming 2007 Summer Elections.

better yet, republic of Mindanao..ehehehe

Mga pre, easy lang. Keep ur cool.

Just think about the progress of Davao and CDO now. I know that those badly needed funds for LIA and the new policy that is hurting the aviation industry in Davao thru DIA.

In the near coming years. You don't really need to rely in Malacañang for projects and funds. For now, let's just face the reality and be patient with our system not of our government but the system of our politicians. Just encourage your politicians there to keep on lobbying to some cabinet members and advisers in Malacañang especially to the president.

There's nothing that we can do about it even if we will vote wisely this coming 2007 summer elections. Remember that this coming election is not about voting for people in Malacañang but only for the people in the legislative body. But still, let's vote wisely and don't lost hope. This senators and congressmen have porks and they can help in funding projects.

US envoy to visit Oro and check out solar project

A TOP-ranking official from the US Consular Office in Manila is set to visit Cagayan de Oro this week.

Mayor Vicente Y. Emano revealed that Cleveland Charles, deputy economic counselor of the US Embassy, confirmed his visit to the city on November 8.

While in the city, Charles is scheduled to visit Cagayan de Oro Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco)'s Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant in Barangay Indahag, considered as the largest solar power plant among developing countries.

He is also scheduled to visit small business enterprises in the city during the period and meet with the local business community here.

Emano is optimistic that the visit of a US official in Cagayan de Oro will strategically promote the city's reputation as a preferred tourism and investment destination in this part of the country.

"We assure our guests and visitors that here in Cagayan de Oro, they can always do business or enjoy our famous adventure destinations and activities in a safe and peaceful environment," Emano pointed out.

Emano is also hopeful that the scheduled visit of a representative from the US Embassy will bear good fruits in terms of more foreign investors and tourists who will come to explore the vast potentials that Cagayan de Oro offers. (CIO)

not that im taking sides here, but i think what lew was trying to say is that how come the government can provide two new airports for two cities within close proximity to each other but failed to provide a smaller version one for CDO...fact is CdeO is more progressive than both Bacolod and IloILo, but thats beside the point...

i think the main point there is..WHY DOES MINDANAO ALWAYS HAVE TO TAKE THE BACK SEAT when it comes to infra priorities?...not that we are bitter na meron sa bagong airport sa Bacolod and Iloilo, thats good news naman for us..pero kung kaya magpatayo ng dalawang magkalapit, bat hindi sa CdeO kung saan mas kailangan ng Airport and it is equally, if not more, economically important than either Iloilo or Bacolod? and we all know the answer..(kahit ano pa sabihing dahilan ng mga tiga labas) the sad answer is.."ah mindanao lang yan..saka na lang...."

Bai, I think I know your sentiments because I lived for 17 years in mindanao.

I was born and raise in 1 of the 10 poorest province in the country which is Surigao del Sur.

Our family lived in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur for 8 years. Moved to Montevista, COMVAL for 4 years and you know what's life there. So hard. My father is just relying on some gold at DIWALWAL. Then we moved to Tagum City, Davao del Norte and stayed there for 2 years. As far as i can remember, it was only GoldCity and Gaisano Center.

I'll cut this story short.

For that seventeen years in mindanao. I know how mindanaons crave for infrastructures. You know mindanao where my mom and I was born. Mindanao have the half if not the most number of the poorest provinces in the country.

Davao City was the city that my family frequently visited because my mom was born there. I've been to the cities of CDO, Butuan and Surigao because of our relatives who live in the said cities.

Bai, I really know what mindanaon like you and me feels.

It's just really a matter of time that Davao, CDO and other progressive cities like GenSan, Iligan and Butuan will be more independent rather than dependent not to the so called IMPERIAL MANILA, but to MALAÑANG.

^^As said in one article, the market forces will push the infrastructure (eg. LIA) projects to be built in CDeO in one way or the other. The demand for such infrastucture is just too great that to ignore it will deprive the overall growth of Southern Philippines. I still remain positive that the LIA project will materialize soon & maybe its facilities will be more modern by then :)

'International airport project goes on'
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno Friday debunked reports that the construction of the US $107 million Laguindingan International Airport will be further delayed due to lack of funds.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano has disclosed that the construction of this already long-delayed airport will again be placed at the backburner due to lack of funds.

But Moreno said he has not received any report from the representatives of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) on the airport project hitting a snag anew particularly in terms of funding.

"The revenues of the National Government for the Laguindingan Airport is flowing, " he said. "Naa man ang pundo (The funds are there)."

Moreno told Sun.Star that the Laguindingan International Airport project is a "flagship project" of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and that the latter will not just easily abandon the same.

He said the multi-partite taskforce assigned to look into the purchase and development of the airport site is even meeting at least once every two weeks and have been consistent in submitting reports on the grounds it has gained.

"We are even on schedule and proceeding well," he said.

Over a local radio station, Emano earlier said he recently met with President Arroyo's presidential assistant for Mindanao lawyer Jesus Dureza when he came back from his trade mission to Australia and New Zealand.

He said Dureza told him that the construction of the US $107 million Laguindingan International Airport at Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental will be delayed further.

"Dureza told me that the construction of the Laguindingan International Airport will not as yet commenced due to lack of funds," said Emano.

The early construction of the international airport would have further boosted the chances of enticing major foreign investors who are already eyeing Cagayan de Oro City and the Province of Misamis Oriental as their next potential venue where they can pour in their investment.

Early this year, no less than President Arroyo came over for the formal inauguration and groundbreaking of the Laguindingan International Airport.

The President vowed for the immediate release of the funds for this project and has signed an executive order to this effect.

DOTC representatives, Moreno, Second District of Misamis Oriental Congressman Augusto Baculio and Jr., Laguindingan Mayor Orville Abellanosa among others already signed a memorandum of agreement for the purchase of the land area and development of the same in relation to this project.

Emano said he is surprised with this latest report from Dureza considering that he himself also helped out in convincing the South Korean government to finance this project through their Export-Import Bank.

I didn't react earlier to what has been posted before but since it's already out, I'll just have to say my opinion.

While I agree that CDeO deserves its own international airport just as much as Iloilo and Negros Occidental (not just Bacolod). I guess it's unfair to imply that the new airports in Iloilo and Silay "robbed" CDeO's opportunity to have one too, and that Iloilo and Negros deserves it less to have the new airports because "CDeO's economy is bigger."

I don't want to get into the argument on who's economy is bigger, but what I mean to say is that Iloilo (including Panay), and Negros Occidental (including the whole island of Negros) deserves the airport as much as CdeO (NorMin) ... Indicators in both Iloilo and Negros Occidental such as current and past air passenger/traffic traffic, tourist arrivals, proximity to major tourist destinations (to serve as a gateway to those destinations) and existing and potential economic centers, size of economy (as measured by GDRP), growth of economy in the past years, and of course strategic location, also made both provinces deserving of such projects. We Ilonggos also waited a long time before these projects got realized.

Emano said he is surprised with this latest report from Dureza considering that he himself also helped out in convincing the South Korean government to finance this project through their Export-Import Bank.

i hope hindi lang nagpapaka optimistic si Gov..

I didn't react earlier to what has been posted before but since it's already out, I'll just have to say my opinion.

While I agree that CDeO deserves its own international airport just as much as Iloilo and Negros Occidental (not just Bacolod). I guess it's unfair to imply that the new airports in Iloilo and Silay "robbed" CDeO's opportunity to have one too, and that Iloilo and Negros deserves it less to have the new airports because "CDeO's economy is bigger."

no one was actually saying here that Iloilo or Negrosrobbed NorMins chance of having a new airport. Although PGMA admitted that she was paying debts to Ilongos when she prioritized major projects in western visayas. The point from the previous page was, why cant the government give NorMin one when it can give R6 two..?

Tama naman si FX, no one in this thread said Iloilo or Bacolod robbed CDO of the budget for the LIA.

Well it could just be the choice of words of Chy. Maybe he meant there was really no budget in the gov't's hand as yet for CDO but Ilo and Baco had been lucky to get the allotment.

Kagay-an Bridge nears completion

THE fifth bridge in the city, Kagay-an Bridge, is to be completed in December this year.

Engineer Isidro Obligado, assistant implementing officer of the project, disclosed this even as the project is originally scheduled to be completed in August 2007 or still 220 days ahead.

The bridge is to be completed this year as projected by the contractor of the project while the roads approaching the bridge are expected to be completed before August next year.

Obligado said the bridge costs P190,579,601.46 while the roads connecting to it from Tambo, Macasandig to Pabayo and Velez streets cost P141,519,097.

The bridge connects barangays Carmen and Nazareth to Macasandig and is expected to help decongest the traffic jam in the southwestern part of the city.

At present, the city has three major bridges namely, the Ysalina Bridge, Maharlika Bridge and the Emmanuel Pelaez Bridge.

The fifth bridge, funded under a loan agreement with the Land Bank of the Philippines, is one among the major infrastructure projects the City Government has implemented if only to put in place a city that is conducive for business and pleasure. (CIO)

English Skills Center Opens in Cagayan De Oro

According to the Call Center Association of the Philippines, only 5 people out of 100 applicants are actually hired by call centers. In a bid to help the declining English Proficiency in Cagayan de Oro and help job seekers get their dream jobs, Versatel Training Center was put up.

By: Roselle Paras

According to the Call Center Association of the Philippines, only 5 people out of 100 applicants are actually hired by call centers. Why? The answer, as evidenced by the following excerpts from an interview conducted by the HR Personnel of a call center, points to the declining English skills of Filipinos:

Interviewer: What did you learn from your previous work?

Applicant: “It taught us to be confidence”.

Interviewer: What do you consider as your strengths?

Applicant: “I’m boasting myself but…”

According to Call Center Recruitment Officers, the perennial problem of mispronunciation and obvious regional accent are also one of the things that give an applicant the thumbs down.

Some examples: “Besecally or Bisically,” “eenaf,” “americuns,” “ ehven,” “reesheep,” “bluthooth,” “pahsitive,” “empeh thre player.” The list goes on and on.

All excerpts and examples above actually came from the stories of Recruitment Officers from a call center in Cagayan de Oro.

Applicants for Call Centers are not the only ones who fail to get into companies because of their inadequate English skills. There have also been reports of nurses and caregivers failing because of their disastrous use of the English language.

In a bid to help the declining English Proficiency in Cagayan de Oro and help job seekers get their dream jobs, Versatel Training Center was put up.

Initially, the Center was created in October to provide in-house training to the agents of Arriba Telecontact, one of the big call centers operating in the city. But after seeing the need for English skills training in Cagayan de Oro, Versatel decided to open its doors to the public starting November. This is welcome news for those who are in dire need of upgrading their English skills to get the right job, as well as to those who unfortunately do not pass TESDA’s Scholarship Program (Call Center Finishing Course) because while they are apparently more than near hires, strangely enough did not qualify for call centers here.

Versatel offers English Proficiency and Communication Skills Training (20 hours or 10 days), American Culture and Accent Training (30 hours or 15 days), as well as a comprehensive 80 hour Call Center Tutorial perfect for those who want to work in the call center industry.

The classes are suitable for students, professionals, nurses and caregivers, those planning to work abroad, and just about anyone who wants to improve his or her Communication skills.

Since Versatel also handles the continuous training of Arriba Telecontact’s personnel, participants are not only mixed with Arriba’s very own people, they also get to experience the same kind of expertise and hands-on training given to its call center agents.

Versatel is also the recruitment arm and affiliate of Arriba, giving successful participants a higher chance of getting into the company after completing the courses. Another advantage is the Center’s convenient location: Versatel is within Arriba’s premises, so some labwork would actually be conducted in the call center.

To ensure participants of each class get the utmost attention and training, Versatel is limiting each class to 15 students. Enrollment is ongoing. For inquiries, please call 8562351 local 405 and look for Candy. Or you may also drop by Versatel Training Center at Rosario Arcade, Limketkai Center, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro.

KNOWN AS THE CITY OF GOLDEN FRIENDSHIP, Cagayan de Oro has been cited by two Philippine leading think tanks for the vast potentials it holds for investors and businessmen who manage to see beyond the fabled warmth and hospitality of its residents.

Roberto de Vera, author and regional studies director of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P),cited Cagayan de Oro as the best positioned for future growth and investments among 23 leading urban regional cities of the Philippines.

Investment Center

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g283/boju4289/ABIelsalvador.jpg

In his 2000 paper "Investing in Regional Cities: the Next Big Thing," de Vera describes how Cagayan de Oro is not only the gateway to Northern Mindanao region, but is its regional shopping center as well.

Although it ranked only 16th among the 23 cities in the study in Gross City Domestic Product (GCDP) with P4.93 billion, it led all others in investments with P16.5 billion. It was also the only city in Mindanao among the top five cited by the study in investments posted with the Board of Investments (BOI) in 1999.

Focused Vision
Cagayan de Oro was also cited in a 2000 study by the Washington Sycip Policy Forum -- a think tank of the Asian Institute of Management -- because of its "focused vision for its economic future."

The study said Cagayan de Oro's competitiveness was enhanced by its strong economic ties such as with the Northern and Central Visayas regions, Cagayan de Oro-Iligan Corridor (CIC), and the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

Although other regional centers like Davao were also progressive, its average household income from 1994 to 1997 dropped 10%, while those of Cagayan de Oro and General Santos increased.

Infrastructure Support

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g283/boju4289/mindanaocoal.jpg

Another unique feature of Cagayan de Oro is the way by which its strong real estate property development is balanced by inter-regional infrastructure development such as the Laguindingan international standard airport, Mindanao International Container Port, Tubod-Tangub bridge and widening of its Iligan-Cagayan de Oro-Bukidnon Road (ICBR), the road artery which links it to key satellite areas.

With over 100 subdivisions containing 80,000 lots covering over 1,000 hectares and counting, the real estate boom in the city is likewise balanced by intercity infrastructure such as the planned construction of three additional bridges across the Cagayan river, Licoan flyover and the East and West coast public utility terminals aimed at loosening the city's tightening gridlock.

Wide Consumer Base

Which is just as well, since although Cagayan de Oro city itself only has half a million residents, it serves a consumer base of well over three million people covering the five provinces (Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Occidental) and six cities (Cagayan de Oro, Gingoog, Iligan, Oroquieta, Ozamiz, and Tangub) of Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) as its regional shopping center.

Already, SM City and rival Big R Super Center have set up mixed-use shopping malls to rival Gaisano's three malls and the local titans Ororama and Limketkai which all boast of department stores, concessionaires, national food chains and cinemas equal if not better than similar stores in other booming regional centers like Cebu, Bacolod and Davao.

Industrial Parks

Besides retailers, light and medium industries are also finding Cagayan de Oro and its satellite areas an ideal home with its mix of affordable industrial parks, reliable and affordably priced utilities, and central location linked to the rest of the country and the ASEAN region with seamless transportation and communications.

The 3,000-hectare PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate-Misamis Orientalis the country's largest, with the 200-hectare First Cagayan de Oro Business Park and the 80-hectare Alwana Business Park now online. Three others are in the pipeline: Laguindingan Industrial Park, El Salvador Economic Zone, and Gingoog Special Economic Zone.

Already, 19 light and medium industries are operating in Cagayan de Oro, the largest of which are Del Monte Philippines, Inc. and Nestlé Philippines, Inc.'sASEAN regional manufacturing center for coffee and milk powder. Another 30 or so industries are operating in the Phividec Industrial Estate-Misamis Oriental.

Exports Boom In large part due to this mix of industrial infrastructure and locational advantages, exports topped the US$200-million mark in 2001 as downstream industries, taking advantage of the city's proximity to the agriculture powerhouse Bukidnon, churned out an increasingly diverse array of products to complement the region's predominantly coconut-and-pineapple export base.

Telecom

Another reason for the continued increase in exports and gross city domestic product are Cagayan de Oro's recent and planned transportation and communications projects through which the lifeblood of this regional dynamo flows. Already served by five telephone local exchange centers (LECs), and four mobile phone companies, the present 65,000 land lines are set to double by another 50,000 in the next two years, further boosting teledensity beyond 10 phones per 100 persons. Two paging networks and nine Internet service providers provide pinpoint local and global reach.

Improved Services

On top of this, 122 banks and 203 public and private schools provide support services, accounting for over half the region's total for both categories. Health services are equally impressive: Eleven public and private hospitals provide over 1,500 beds -- half the total in Region 10.

These are further backed by some 49 barangay health centers, 66 family planning clinics, and over 200 medical and dental clinics. Medical facilities include world-class institutions like the Northern Mindanao Heart Center and Mindanao Eye Center.

Multicultural Peace

Tourism is another sunrise industry. Regional and national convention-goers find irresistible the city's close proximity of hotels and accommodations, wide variety of easily accessible exotic tourism destinations and amenities including an 18-hole world class golf course and a country club.

Not the least, the leisure industry appears to be crossing even political and ideological lines as Cagayan de Oro has been relatively spared the rash of violence which has rocked Mindanao's urban centers as of late. Although its peace and order situation is by no means impeccable, still it has been spared the wholesale bombings and killings many have come to associate with Mindanao.

The most logical explanation for this is multicultural harmony: Despite the diversity of beliefs and ideological convictions, residents share the same admiration and affection for the City of Golden Friendship, the city that has become a home even to migrants and ever-increasing number of visitors over the years.

oh i see..i thought you were talking about Limketkai Mall's south concourse.. Yeah, Tapa queen somewhere in DVSORIA..

Talking about party places there.. I liked the band who used to do gigs in that party place before.. magaling sila..the lead vocals was girl..panlaban talaga sila. On the whole though, the best party enclave was the Rosario Arcade inside Ketkai Complex. That to me is the "it" place to see and to be seen by people.

Mayor: Traders want me to stay
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano revealed that his party members here and traders asked him to remain as a public official in the city instead of seeking to be reelected as governor of Misamis Oriental in the 2007 elections.

In an interview over a local radio station, Emano said traders including the Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry and his PaDayon Pilipino partymates are asking him not to run for governor or any post in Misamis Oriental but remain as an official in Cagayan de Oro city.

Emano said he is still considering such requests.

Emano, who formerly served as governor of Misamis Oriental, said he will definitely be involved in the province's political arena particularly in the congressional race.

But he said he has to discuss certain political matters with his son who is serving his last term as mayor of Tagoloan and his family members.

He added that they would have met last Friday but Tagoloan mayor Yevygeny "Bambi" Emano had to attend some important function.

"I will respect whatever decision he (Bambi Emano) may have arrived," the mayor said.

The sons of three political titans in Misamis Oriental are reportedly eyeing a seat in the House as representative of the Second District of Misamis Oriental.

The three include Emano's son and League of Mayors in the Philippines-Misamis Oriental chairman Bambi Emano, former Misamis Oriental governor Antonio Calingin's son Andy, and Second District of Misamis Oriental Congressman Augusto Baculio Jr.'s son Rex Baculio.

Also, the younger Emano revealed that he was not among the mayors who joined last Friday's meeting with the 18 mayors of Misamis Oriental and Congressman Baculio.

The 18 town mayors allegedly voiced their "undivided loyalty" to Baculio should the latter gun for the gubernatorial post in Misamis Oriental in the 2007 Elections.

But Emano made it clear that he has either cast his support for Baculio or for incumbent Governor Oscar Moreno as yet.

Earlier, Moreno disclosed that he has not yet made any political plans and will only reveal them by December this year.

Campaign intensely

In reaction to Baculio's bid for governorship, Moreno said, "It is everybody's right. It is part of the democratic process. Anybody can manifest his or her intention to serve."

"If Baculio thinks that he can do more, then there is no problem. Let us first work. Let us focus on politics during the electoral campaign," the incumbent governor said.

As for Emano, he said the gubernatorial race in the province will be a "one-on-one fight" between Baculio and Moreno.

"That is their right to run against each other even if they bang their heads together I will keep my hands off," he said.

Why feel sorry?. CDOans have all the reason to rejoice. Afterall, it's also a gem in Mindanao inspite of the island's sordid image. It's a diamond in the rough just like Davao!

Land Bank to open Puerto branch
By Danilo V. Adorador III

THE Land Bank of the Philippines will open its fifth Cagayan de Oro branch in Puerto this week, bringing its credit delivery system and other services to the city's eastern district and the adjoining towns of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon.

Josephine Mercadal, manager of the soon-to-be opened branch, said Land Bank Puerto will offer all services currently being offered in all of their branches -- deposits, ATM services, loans, remittances from overseas Filipino workers, SSS and Pag-ibig contributions.

The new branch will serve highly industrial barangays in the eastern side, covering Tablon and stretching to the Misamis Oriental town of Lagonglong.

With the bank's proximity to Bukidnon, it is also expected to cover the province's agro-industrial municipalities of Manolo Fortich, Libona and Malitbog.

"With the new branch, we can now better serve major industrial establishments not only in Cagayan de Oro but also Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon," Mercadal said.

Land Bank, a government financial institution, would become Puerto's only universal bank, she added.

Prospective clientele and local officials are expected to attend Land Bank Puerto's soft opening on November 20. Banking hours will start at 8:30 and ends at 3 p.m.

Being the fourth largest bank in the Philippines and the largest formal credit institution in the rural areas, Mercadal said Land Bank Puerto will strive to contribute to the development of the clientele it will serve.

^^Pagkakaalam ko, yong wiMAX kailangan pa rin yon ng router. Yong WLAN adapter kasi ng laptop, either peer to peer lang yon or ko-connect siya thru access point. So even if merong Wireless Internet Service sa area, hindi rin basta maka-access yong laptop mo. Just correct me if i'm wrong.

davaoeagle
November 16th, 2006, 08:06 AM
Dunno much about connections but as far as I know and this is what I got here..We have one main computer where I installed my router to get a signal to my laptop na may wireless card. Now the area becomes wifi or hotspot and anyone who has a LT with wireless card in it can access to an internet while inside my house ot in some cases ..even neighbors. Pwede rin sila di ka access kung i secure namo ang line which means naka security code siya.

Alingatong
November 16th, 2006, 08:25 AM

CDO air passengers count up in 2Q
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (18 November) -- Replacement of smaller aircrafts with bigger ones that can accommodate more passengers has increased the number of incoming and outgoing passengers at the Lumbia Airport, Cagayan de Oro City, in the second quarter, this year.

"This only confirms the upbeat mode of the economy in the city that serves as the regional center of Northern Mindanao which has the 3rd highest per capita (per head) gross regional domestic product among all the regions in the country," Director Myra V. Balandra of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), region 10, said.

Data compiled by the NEDA show that compared to the same period, last year, incoming passengers increased from 66,614 to 77,909 or 16.96% while outgoing passengers also increased, from 67,309 to 77,855 or 15.67%.

.The number of flights, however, went down from 774 to 740 for both incoming and outgoing due to the replacement of the aircrafts.

On the other hand, the volume of outgoing air cargoes increased, from 913,399 kgs. to 959,942 kgs. or 5.10%, while incoming cargoes declined, from 1,203,658 kgs. to 1,157,462 kgs. or a -3.84%.

Meanwhile, passengers in the sea ports of Northern Mindanao for the period, showed a downtrend, from 2,082,887 to 1,697,065 or a -18.52%, as those embarking dropped from 1,047,664 to 850,270 or a -18.84%, and disembarking, from 1,035,223 to 846,795 or a -18.20%.

The number of shipcalls also went down, from 8,590 to 8,441 or a -1.73% as domestic calls dropped, from 8,409 to 8,228 or a -2.15%. However, foreign shipcalls noted an increase, from 181 to 213 or 17.68%.

The total volume of sea cargoes for the period also posted positive, from 5,360,554MT to 5,921,296MT or 10.46% as foreign cargoes increased from 3,195,336MT to 3,847,145MT or 20.40% but domestic cargoes dropped, from 2,165,218MT to 2,074,151MT or a -4.21%. Of the foreign cargoes, imports posted a positive 36.65%, from 1,486,067MT to 2,030,688MT and exports by 20.40%, from 1,709,269MT to 1,816,456MT.

In terms of domestic cargoes, those outbound increased from 1,010,871MT to 1,02,837MT or 0.99% but inbound cargoes dropped, from 1,154,347MT to 1,053,315MT or a -8.75%.

"These increases in foreign cargo traffic was mainly due to the high level of shipment transactions of the Philippine Sinter Corporation and the Mindanao International Container Terminal, both located at the Phivedec Industrial Authority in Misamis Oriental," Balandra added. (PIA 10)

Ako natry ko na Hotel Ramon, the defunct Excelsior (may spooky!) and the one fronting the Cockpit Gallera. I liked Hotel Ramon better. I have also tried the 9 floor hotel downtown which name I can't recall right now.

Ito pa pala FX, pag nagtitipid kami (lagi naman) doon kami sa Masspec. Sulit din sya for the price...then there's this downtown business hotel na di ko na maalala.

FOr my company's conventions pala, lagi kami sa Pryce. Stayed there thrice I guess since I joined my company. This is the best CDO accomdation can offer.

i agree but we couldn't have an apple to apple comparison between pryce and mallberry because i believe mallberry considers itself as a business hotel, limited lang talaga ang space, wala ngang swimming pool...:)
