TONZI November 16th, 2008, 07:32 AM ;28071748']why cant you answer my question? so are you saying nga ang prevailing culture dire kay "bahala nag dili sure basta patsada toohan namo, dili na nato tukion kay basi malahi ang resulta kung mag verify pa ta"?
pasensya na pud bai kung hilig ko mu react, to my understanding man gud, murag pag naay article then naay highlighted parts, ang highlighted parts murag big deal na sya that, sa part sa nag post, is an invitation na "tara lets discuss this"
Question: how did you make that notion that there is a prevailing culture of such? di ba, ikaw ra man ang gahimo ana nga idea that indeed a culture 'bahala nag dili sure basta patsada nindot paminawon' culture is prevalent here?
coz if you point out that indeed the culture is present, then, such culture should be validated by a number of people para ma-Qualify siya as a culture that really Exists. If you're the only one who invented that such culture is present or if you're are the only who can qualify that such culture is present, then such culture isn't an accepted culture to everybody or in other words, such culture is not present.
ani lang na siya, dont impose things unto people that they are not actually doing coz that would only make you villainous to everybody. di ba, you asked Why people tend to call you troll and some other name calls that you presumed as 'below the belt' ? now the answer is this, first, you should not do to them what you do not want them to do unto you. if you dont impose things unto other people then they would do the same to you.
xu_pauloboy November 16th, 2008, 07:55 AM ;28072200']ill try, kita na man ka na calmado ko mag post diba? and im trying to be as civil as i can maski murag harsh ang tono sa uban sa akoa
remember, so far wala koy below the belt nga mga post...if you think dili ko kalitok ug tarong nga english, pasensya na..i do believe that my english is at par with most forumers here in your thread so yeah dahan dahan sa pagsaway basi naa sab maigo nga lain tao hehe
anyway, with regards to mr. catalino chan's statement and his appropriate proof, well yan ang problema, we dont know if mao jud ang iyahang gina mean, namali syag sulti or misquoted sya or unsa ba..like i said, i accept his statement as it is..and what he said was nga ang CdeO ang hub of economic activities sa mindanao
now, gaya ng sabi ko kanina, what i was trying to extract was your opinions, i was trying to discuss with you, in a civil manner, if tinood ba nga ang CdeO ang economic hub sa mindanao
so far, by your reactions, ang akong makita kay hadlok mo i discuss to mao gina avoid ninyo kay dire ang prevailing culture is "basta tsada, ayaw na kalroha, tuohi na lang" and so far murag mao na jud ang ginasulti ninyo (murag indirectly ginaamin ninyo)
pansin ninyo, mu react lang man ko if lets say naka highlight ang article (to me I see it as an invitation man sab gud to react hilabi na naka highlight and gipadako pa ang letters)
to my understanding, sa forums, ang highlighted words especially nga padak-on ang font and lahi-on ang colors kay murag ginasyagit nimo sa forums na "hey look! mao ni ingon sa article oh!"
GIVE IT A BREAK!
I hope you got the message na.

ph_matrix November 16th, 2008, 03:05 PM ... as he pursues “interior decoration” projects in CdeO
City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula called for a deeper public understanding and support as he strongly pushed for the realization of his flagship projects that is aimed towards the building of a “more beautiful, more comfortable, and a more gracefully livable” Cagayan de Oro City.
The mayor emphasized this when he addressed a jampacked crowd of faculty members, students and business leaders in the public lecture on governance and leadership at Xavier University’s Little Theater.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_p6TqhBe7UlU/SR4nt139yHI/AAAAAAAAGGo/x1TsOX82WRw/s320/DSC_0079.JPG (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_p6TqhBe7UlU/SR4nt139yHI/AAAAAAAAGGo/x1TsOX82WRw/s1600-h/DSC_0079.JPG)“The people must understand the imperatives of development. This is our city and not mine alone, so we are equally-responsible to make Cagayan de Oro City grow even bigger and better,” Mayor Jaraula told the participants.
“What is important is that we share our ideas and dreams to everybody because there is so much more to be done”, stressed Jaraula, who took up Preparatory Law at Ateneo de Cagayan in 1956, graduating cum laude.
The lecture, organized by XU Governance and Leadership Institute headed by Maria Elizabeth O. Soriano, Director, in cooperation with Dean Dulce R. Dawang of the College of Arts and Sciences and XU president Fr. Jose T. Villarin, also served as a tribute to Mayor Jaraula’s outstanding contribution to the city’s development being an alumnus and well-respected political leader.
During the forum, Mayor Jaraula enumerated his flagship projects and programs, hoping that the university officials and students would have a better grasp on his present and future development plans for Cagayan de Oro City.
Noting that the major infrastructure facilities have been undertaken by the previous administration, Jaraula is boldly focusing on what he called as “interior decoration” projects of the city.
On top the mayor’s development agenda is fulfilling his dreams and vision in his first term (1967-1971) as City Councilor which is the initial phase of the “River Boulevard” along the river bank, consisting of a 600-meter long “walkway” that will stretch from City Hall up to the Carmen-Nazareth Bridge or Kagay-an Bridge”, and a “Boulevard” going downstream from Toribio Chaves Street to J.R. Borja Street, about one kilometer, to be known as the “Golden Mile”.http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_p6TqhBe7UlU/SR4oQVFW_nI/AAAAAAAAGGw/o0njXZ-yGLY/s320/RIVER+BOULEVARD.jpg (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_p6TqhBe7UlU/SR4oQVFW_nI/AAAAAAAAGGw/o0njXZ-yGLY/s1600-h/RIVER+BOULEVARD.jpg)
Part of the conceptualization of the “Golden Mile” is the construction of a walk bridge, with a viewing deck and coffee-cum-souvenir shop in the middle, spanning across Cagayan de Oro River, from the present Amphitheater connecting barangay Carmen on the opposite rside.
Through a blic and private consortium, Mayor Jaraula has proposed to construct a high-rise building at the present location of the City Amphitheater to be called as a “City Center” that will house the City Library, City Museum, Tourism and Information Office.
A multi-level Legislative and Administrative Building will also soon rise within the City Hall omplex in order to give the members of the City Council and the general public a more spacious and convenient workplace. The project’s funding will be taken from the P500-million loan of the City Government from the Philippine Veteran’s Bank which was approved in June this year.
Mayor Jaraula is also redesigning the Old Gaston Park by installing a state-of-the-art ‘dancing fountain’, featuring a spectacular and excellent display of water and lights that will surely provide great amazement and breathtaking view for the residents, visitors and tourists. The project’s design and concept will somehow be similar to the latest technology used by experts in designing the world-famous ‘dancing fountains” in Las Vegas, USA.
As an added tourism attraction, the City Mayor started last month the restoration project of 1920’s-built old water tower near the Gaston Park into a city museum and archives center. The redevelopment of the old water tower aims to showcase a wide range of collections of memento, documents and records which has relevant historical and cultural value on the past of Cagayan de Oro City.
In March 13, 2008, Mayor Jaraula led the inauguration of the MacArthur Memorial Marker at the Old Wharf in barangay Macabalan, this city. The marker boosts the present replica of General MacArthur’s famous “scrambled egg cap”, perhaps the only one of its kindhttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_p6TqhBe7UlU/SR4o8rxS7jI/AAAAAAAAGG4/ShBRJZzgl0A/s320/MacArthur.jpg (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_p6TqhBe7UlU/SR4o8rxS7jI/AAAAAAAAGG4/ShBRJZzgl0A/s1600-h/MacArthur.jpg) throughout the world. History tells that Gen. MacArthur heroically escaped from Corregidor upon repeated orders of Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt. But instead of taking the submarine he took four PT boats for his party, his being PT-41, landing on March 13, 1942 at the Old Pier in Macabalan. He took off on a B17 for Australia from the Del Monte Airstrip on March 17, 1942, the only airstrip remaining under the control of American-Filipino forces. MacArthur organized the Liberation Forces in Australia, and “leap-frogging” from there he liberated the Philippines and redeemed his pledge of “I SHALL RETURN”. Constructed through donations, its inauguration coincided with the historic landing of the five-star general here in Cagayan de Oro City. (CIO)

Mindanawon’s Tea
By Cha Monforte
Cagayan de Oro is a city known as one wearing with a big smile. My Dabawenyo’s fling with the northern city in Mindanao started in the 1981 when I passed by and slept there for the first time en route to enrol as iskolar in Mindanao State University in Marawi City. There was that feeling of being differently at home with that warm, unassuming and unambitious aura that exuded in my first step to CDO
At that time It was then the Capistrano Street that was the CBD- Central Business District. I recalled the then thriving cinemas located along the street. When you’re going west, the street crosses the still known Divisoria and ends at Saint Augustine Cathedral, near the Gaston Park.
It was twilight when I had the first sight of the city’s CBD. There was that mixed mood from the city’s then humdrum life and tranquil vivacity, as jeepneys were not yet so abundantly and stopped infront at Nation Theater at Velez Street to pick up passengers. The city was awfully clean. What also captivated me was the plenty of pretty Cagayanon ladies. Chada gyud ang Cagayan de Oro!
Each time I had my summer, sem and Xmas break in MSU-Marawi, I wouldn’t pass without sleeping a night at CDO before going home to Davao. I could be more refreshed to withstand the long kilometers of travel via Butuan then as via Buda to Davao was not yet existing in the 80s. The stopover afforded me an R & R on student budget, though. A sight-seeing walk, girls-watching, a movie, and a taste of Cagayanon’s different kinilaw were hearty relish already.
The kinilaw in CDO is different or it’s the same in places I have already gone to in northern Mindanao like Iligan, Ozamiz and Oroquieta. It’s superb than the kinilaw we have in Davao. It is bathed still with vinegar but with the tabon-tabon and biasong, than with lemonsito in Davao. The tabon-tabon makes the kinilaw somehow aplod, and makes it sooo lami in your taste buds!
Anyway, in my later forays in the city as yet another yuppie (then and for the heck of the bygone days now) but enmeshed with a lot of PO, NGO engagements I learned more of its intricacies, politics, peace, expressions, Cruz Taal, Xavier U, Dongkoy Emano’s hoarse voice and other things why it is called as a City of Golden Friendship.
Maybe because it’s a city fronting Sugbu after a sea that its unfettered democracy thrives so well that there’s no sacred cow outta there. Politicians are by and large not onion-skinned and would trade barbs issues to issues over the media no matter what.
I must say that CDO’s fair and free culture is best felt in its finest bars where the sons and daughters of the richest and of the most slippered and sandoed mingle freely sans discrimination and condescendence. There was that classy Gonzi bar in my one night in CDO, I recall, that mixed smell of perfumes combined with the odor from sweat of the brawn. The night with the live band had no inhibition with pretty rich coeds swinging out on the floor elbow to elbow with the youngs from hoi pollois.
http://www.vamosargentina.com/disco.jpg
The rich tradition of friendship, non-discrimination and freedom of CDO’s humanity amidst a large peace is best expressed and felt in its bars. The friendship is blown up by its creative people and event organizers, while peace is much secured by each officialdom and anchored on the rule of law. More than ever, the city’s freedom, as epitomized by Nene Pimentel’s revolt against Marcos when he was still the CDO’s mayor, has been burning in the warm, friendly and brave hearts of the Cagayanons. THEY might be the underdog in the six-team field, but the Capitol University (CU) showed a lot of heart on Friday's nail-biting tussle with Cebu's San Carlos University at Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
Just a wildcard entry in the ongoing Philippine Collegiate Champions League, the CU Stallions made it sure upset will mark the PCCL Zone 4 qualifier's opening day action by overpowering the SCU Webmasters in overtime, 87-84.
Top favorite Far Eastern University (still locking horns with host Xavier University Crusaders as of presstime) fashioned out a lop-sided 105-55 win over Ateneo Zamboanga in the opener.
CU's Stephen Go stood as the nightmare for the Cebuanos' heart-breaking debut when he sizzled for a game-high 39 points that mattered the most in overcoming the Stallions' twin-digit deficit in the early goings.
"Go was at his best scoring element as knocking off those big numbers is a thing that you would always take pride to remember," enthused XU's assistant coach Arvin Martinez.
"Showing big fighting heart is a quality that CU coach Jonas Molawan can be proud of his intrepid Stallions. They really worked hard all-night long to earn the victory," added XU athletics director Gerardo "Boboy" Sabal.
The Webmasters, who finished third in Cebu's Cesafi, controlled the pace most of the way, leading by as much as 11 points. Complementing Go's gigantic effort that broke the game wide-open in the fourth quarter, Estroga made a clutch basket with time ticking away to force overtime.
It was a big Stallions show in the extension period as the foursome of Go, Estroga, Baja and Tinoy continued to run the offense from outside for a complete reversal of fortune.

GearX November 17th, 2008, 04:22 AM Tamaraws survive Xavier, gain semis (http://www.mb.com.ph/SPRT20081117141057.html)
By JONAS TERRADO
Far Eastern University survived a gallant stand by home team Xavier University, 77-71, to enter the crossover semifinals unbeaten in the 2008 Philippine Collegiate Championship Mindanao zonal phase at the Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City Saturday night.
The Tamaraws silenced the boisterous crowd as Mark Barroca, Jonathan Fernandez and Paul Sanga came through with clutch baskets in the payoff period to seal the win.
FEU finished the single round elims with a perfect 2-0 record and will meet the second-ranked team in Group B.
In the first game, University of San Carlos recovered from a shocking 87-84 defeat to host Capitol University by crushing University of Mindanao, 81-51.
The Warriors, who finished third during the recent CESAFI tournament, ended the elims with an even 1-1 record while UM would need a win over Capitol to force a three-way logjam for third. Both teams are playing as of presstime.
Also meeting as of presstime are Group A squads Xavier and Ateneo de Zamboanga, who lost by 30 points to FEU last Friday. The winner will advance to the semis against the top team in Group B.
A win by Capitol University over UM will automatically give the host squad the top spot in Group B.
The semifinal winners of the event presented by PLDT, KFC and Smart will enter the Sweet 16 to be held next Monday at The Arena in San Juan.

GearX November 17th, 2008, 08:49 AM FEU Tamaraws lead crossover matches (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cagayan-de-oro/feu-tamaraws-lead-crossover-matches)
By Lynde Salgados
HOST Xavier University Crusaders blew a chance to topple down the top favorite on Saturday, though they surely earned the respect of pace-setting Far Eastern University in the exciting Philippine Collegiate Champions League here at XU gymnasium.
The FEU Tamaraws did warm-ups and delighted an excited crowd with an array of rim-rattling slam dunks.
FEU is fresh from a 50-point conquest (105-55) of Ateneo Zamboanga.
But when the main tussle began, coach Glen Capacio and his favored wards got a surprise when the XU Crusaders mentored by the pair of Rocky Calingin and Arvin Martinez gave them one hell of a fight.
With Jett Yaranon's gun ablazing from the three-point arc, the host team -- which made it to the quarterfinals of the recently-concluded University Games 2008 in Dumaguete City -- finished the first quarter with an 8-point lead, 27-19.
The 2008 UAAP third-runner up Tamaraws, who only got their first lead at 37-36 with 1:24 to go in the second quarter, watched the Crusaders lose steam in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to score a come-from-behind 77-71 victory.
"They earned our respect. It might be a thrilling victory in our part but Xavier University has all the reasons to celebrate. They must be very proud," FEU's team manager Jorge Lacson was quoted as saying after the fantastic match which was seemingly equal to the euphoria generated by UAAP Games.
Allowing the Crusaders to fire from outside proved to be FEU's biggest undoing as Raffy James Cabanes, JP Erram and Julian Bagares joined in the fray, bringing XU's total 3 pointers to five with two coming from the red-hot Yaranon in the opening salvo.
FEU's Benedict Fernandez, Reil Cervantes and Andy Mark Barroca timely conspired for a fierce rally that forced a 39-all deadlock by half time.
XU opened up the third quarter with a quick tip-in shot by Donnie Ray Contreras. But it was immediately countered by FEU.
GB Tagarda then hit a booming trey that set the tone for a torrid exchange of baskets.
XU hung on and entered the fourth and final quarter with a three-point edge, 60-57.
A daring inside move by Bagares for a twinner moved the heavily divided spectators and awakened the fervor left in the deep reservoir of the gritty Tamaraws.
The Crusaders were still up by five, 66-61, with 5 minutes and 37 seconds remaining, though they slowly felt the damage wrought by the crippled wings of their great defenders.
Both Tagarda and the 6-foot-7 Erram had 4 personal fouls each and Malik Ampuan followed suit when FEU nibbled at the lead and pounced on XU's now vulnerable defense to wrest the upperhand, 71-67, going into the final two minutes.
Barroca, seasoned guard that he is, thrived most in the killer stretch and converted one basket after another from the freethrow line to seal the hard-earned victory for FEU.
Cervantes, Fernandez and Barroca paced FEU with 18, 13 and 10 points each. Yaranon had 15 markers for XU's losing cause.
"The XU coaching staff did a great job. They must be proud of their boys who achieved a lot tonight (Saturday night) against FEU. But I appeal to the host team to please exercise self-control or have temperance for the crowd's own safety. Not getting carried away is necessary because we get big crowds in basketball," said former national coach Joe Lipa, who is the PCCL's tournament director.
With two straight wins, FEU Tamaraws outrightly occupied the first spot for Monday's top 4 crossover matches.
Meanwhile, Cebu's San Carlos University rebounded from an opening day shocker (84-87 loss to Capitol University) by repulsing Davao's University of Mindanao, 81-51, in a preliminary match.
The USC Webmasters, who dominated the Davao Wildcats from start to finish, got 16 and 15 points, respectively, from Jun Michael Cantonao and Joven Cid Cortez.
The XU Crusaders and Ateneo Zamboanga are still battling as of presstime with favorite Capitol University Stallions, who are gunning for a second win against the off-form UM Wildcats.

Once again, technology adoptors from Region X made it to national and international limelight by grabbing awards.
Recently, Cagayan de Oro Handmade Papercrafts, Inc. received a 13M grant from the Australian Government’s Enterprise Challenge Fund (ECF), the first grant awardee from the Philippines.
The grant is the highest so far approved by the ECF among participating countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The award was granted because of the economic impact of the company to abaca farmers of Malitbog, Bukidnon and Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
Cagayan de Oro Handmade Papercrafts uses abaca fibers for its handmade papermaking business.
Funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the ECF provides businesses with grants ranging from Php 3.8 million (A$100,000) to Php 57 million (A$ 1.5M) to support sound business ideas that can also have a positive impact on poverty reduction.
By providing up to half of the project’s costs, the Fund helps otherwise profitable business projects overcome external obstacles and share some of the risk.
ECF operates in Cambonia, East Timor, Fiji, Lao PDR, Papua New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and selected provinces of Indonesia.
SLERS Industries, Inc., a food processor in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, was declared as the first national winner for Best in Business Excellence in the Productivity Olympics 2008, for medium and small establishment categories.
The Productivity Olympics is a national competition of good productivity practices focused on people development and business excellence among micro-small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide. It is organized by the National Wages and Productivity Commission in coordination with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board with the theme, “Improving Productivity Competitiveness.”
Aside from the plaque of recognition and cash award, Slers Industries is authorized to use the Productivity Olympics logo in its product publicity for three years and will be given priority endorsement to training programs organized by RTWPB and DOLE.
Two other nominees for the Productivity Olympics from region 10 are VJANDEP Bakeshop of Camiguin and Darling Food Products, also from Cagayan de Oro City.
CDO Handmade Paper Industries, Slers Industries, VDJANDEP Bakeshop and Darling Food Products are beneficiaries of the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) of the Department of Science and Technology. (Tess Superioridad Baluyos/DOST-10 superioridadtess@yahoo.com)

I did see it and I was shocked in disbelief on who did it. I was eVen thinking that it was our typical trolly villain but only to find out that it was one of those most 'friendly' guys from that thread who used to support both CDEO and DAVAO forumers. Kung si the usual trolly villain lang yun, wla na sana sa akin. Eh kaso lang, the one who posted it is one of those who are the MOST UNLIKELY forumers to do such things.
Anyway, @xzibit and @paulkrips there was able to mend it so there's no need fire missiles at him. Mabuti na lang nag sorry siya at alam niya ang pagkakamali niya.

SUV111 November 17th, 2008, 05:06 PM 2GO strengthens VisMin reach for Tapa King
2GO, the total supply chain solutions provider, has been commissioned by popular Filipino food chain Tapa King for the transport of their goods to the VisMin region with the use of 2GO Cold Chain.
Tapa King uses 2GO Cold Chain for the transport of their "wet" or perishable goods such as meat and fish including their famous tapa, liempo and bangus, because these items need to be kept under a certain temperature to maintain quality.
Tapa King explains that one of the greatest challenges in the food industry is the cost-effective transport of their goods without compromising quality and freshness. For Tapa King, 2GO answered all their concerns.
Pablo "Jon" Hicban, Tapa King Operations Manager expounds "The main strength of Tapa King ever since it opened has been the product quality. So the transportation of the products is always an issue, especially when it came to Cebu. There are many ways to transport. But 2GO answered all our questions and challenges."
"2Go has been very accommodating and they have given us good service. Even our drivers gave us feedback that from the moment they arrive at the pier, personnel from 2GO will greet them from the gate and assist them through the entire process. They are very strict in terms of product quality and the items arrive in the destination in very good condition. Basically, 2GO is now a necessity for us" he adds.
Tapa King started in June 1987 as a "hole in the wall" operations in the heart of Makati City’s business district. Immediately Tapa King found its niche - the office workers who came for a quick and affordable meal yet delicious and extremely satisfying. However, as the market trend changed Tapa King embarked on a restructuring of their image that birthed two classifications of their stores: The diner and the traditional. Tapa King currently has 10 company-owned stores and 23 franchises. They currently have branches in Cebu, Pampanga, Tuguegarao and Ilocos. And because of 2GO Cold Chain, they are now open to talks for Davao, Bacolod and Cagayan operations.
Meanwhile, Cold Chain marked 2GO’s entry into the transport of perishable goods. Through the LCL (Less than a Containerload) service, 2GO can transport products that need refrigeration like vegetables, poultry, meat, fruits and ice cream with a low minimum requirement of 0.5 cubic meters (cbm) making it very suitable for small and medium businesses. This is also an optimal solution for big businesses as this improves their inventory efficiency and speed-to-market.
2GO’s enabler for the Cold Chain service is the CRYO company, Reefer Van Specialist Inc. (RVSI). CRYO has been in the business of refrigerated transport since 1982 and has been a trusted partner of the group for years.
Mr. Hicban also mentions "Filipino’s deserve quality. Especially in terms of transportation. 2GO maintains the quality from the source up until it reaches the destination. It is in these types of innovations and service quality that can help our country in the long run."
This Christmas, 2GO is offering a special holiday treat of a free trail shipment of 0.5 cubic meters (CBM) for specific commodities.

deevex75 November 18th, 2008, 01:50 AM City Readies P377M For Cogon, Carmen Markets Takeover (http://cagayandeoro.gov.ph/?page=news&id=1442)
by Ian A. Fuentes/city Information Office
The City Government of Cagayan de Oro is set to take over within this week the full management of both Cogon and Carmen public markets from a private firm that operates the city's two biggest public markets for more than three years.
During Monday's flag raising ceremony at City Hall, City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula revealed that the funds intended as an outright payment for the city government's complete take over of the operation of Cogon and Carmen public markets are now ready.
City treasurer Lino D. Daral confirmed the availability of funds after the latter and Mayor Jaraula signed on Friday, November 14, a check amounting to P377,005,353.20, representing payment to Uy Yian Ping, the owner of UKC Builders- a private contractor who undertook the redevelopment of Cogon and Carmen public markets under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme.
In taking over the management of the two public markets, Daral said that the city government will pay the management of the UKC Builders with an amount of P267,673,800.77 million for Cogon Market, and another P109,331,552.43 million for Carmen Market.
To allay fears, Mayor Jaraula said the city government has sufficient funds to pay up its monthly amortization as repayment to its P500-million loan with the Philippine Veterans Bank.
The outright payment for the management take over of Cogon and Carmen markets is sourced out from the proceeds of the PVB loan which was availed of by the city government early this year.
Mayor Jaraula is confident that the city government's take over of management will result to a higher collection of rental fees generated from the two public markets, and thus allow the city to stop its annual subsidy to the City Economic Enterprises Department (CEED) which oversees the operations of all public terminals and markets in the city.
Based on his monthly collection target after the take over, Daral said the city government expects to earn more than P7.1 million from Cogon Market and P3.7 million from Carmen Market or P10.8 million monthly collections based on a P5.00 per square meter rental fee. With the projected monthly income, the City Treasurer stressed that the city has enough funds to pay its P7.0 million monthly loan amortization with the Philippine Veterans Bank. The three-storey, escalator-equipped Cogon public market that accommodates 3,115 stalls was opened on July 8, 2005, while the two-storey Carmen public market with a capacity of 1,288 stalls for dry, wet, fruits, vegetables and miscellaneous goods was inaugurated on December 2004 under the administration of then Mayor and now Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano.

CDO Bloggers First Meet-Up (http://travelsandtours.dingexx.com/2008/11/07/cdo-bloggers-first-meet-up/)

Cagayan de Oro is a growing and a blooming City. Aside on this, many investors and businessman who came in the city to invest there business. The city have already big malls which are the SM, Gaisano Mall, and Limketkai Mall, aside from the big malls in the city we have also big building for hotels in our very own city. There is a biggest hotel right now which is under construction; this hotel is the tallest hotel in Cagayan de Oro which is a 21 story hotel. Imagine how bloom is our city. Aside on this the CDO Bloggers will form a group in the city and we hope that it will be acknowledge for our local government.
Blogging is now popular in our modern days. Blogging is part of the media society already because you can express your feelings through blogging. You can give information to the people around you. In Mmindanao there are places already where bloggers have been organized and active to there community. Just like Davao, they have already Davao Bloggers Community the Gen. San bloggers Community, and many place in Mindanao. These two (2) places I mention are known where bloggers are so active and this place also is the place where Mindanao Blog Summit was held. The 1st Mindanao Blog Summit was held at Davao last year 2007 and the 2nd Mindanao Blog Summit was held at Gen. San in this year.

In this time I think it is the time where Kagay-anons will organize a group of bloggers. The group will be called CDO Bloggers with the help of ChiQ Montes a word press designer and a popular blogger. Through the help of ChiQ the CDO Bloggers community is form and I’m so happy that we are one of those bloggers who form the community. Few days ago ChiQ launch the CDOBLOGGERS site and it that day she get a good feedback for the CDO Bloggers where in at the end of the day there are 50+ bloggers who register in that site, it is a good sign that bloggers in Cagayan de Oro is active. The 1st Meet-up of CDO Bloggers was so cool and excited.

Around 7 o’clock in the evening last Nov. 7, 2008 at Mindy’s, one forth of the member of the site was meet and it is the initial members of the sites and an active bloggers in CDO. In this meet we just introduce our selves and the blogs that we maintain or let say the niche of our blog at off course we eat. For the next week we will meet again for the serious talk about the goals and objectives of the group. It is a brain storming to make our community organize and become solid. In this 2nd meet up of CDO BLOGGERS I’m sure 70-90% of bloggers who register to the site come in that meet-up. Did you know what is one of the reason why they will come? Because they would like to see ChiQ in personal..:-) So prepare Davao, Gen.San and Zamboanga CDO BLOGGERS in now online..:-)

ei tonzi, tama na yan oi...
meron kasing from CdO na nagsabi na there are 6.3 (million ata? di nya specified what was 6.3) na poor sa Davao...ang usapan kasi is Davao can set it's budget at 6 billion if it wants to (opinion of one poster), then sabi nung taga-CdO, dapat ipamigay na lang yan sa mga poor & unemployed Davaoeños, para wala nang poor...insinuating poor ang Davaoeños (dili ra ba, kay ako lang ra ba tong pobre hi3x)...well, natrigger lang si RA ngano giinsulto ang mga Davaoeños that way. hindi siguro unusual ang ganyan manyari, kaya don't connect his previous act before sa ngayon kasi entirely different situations.

boju2 November 18th, 2008, 10:28 AM plaza fair presents 5-day sale (http://mwamaarkhh.multiply.com/journal/item/713)
Advertorial for MINDANAO GOLD STAR DAILY by MARK D. FRANCISCO
PLAZA Fair Cagayan de Oro commenced its five day-sale starting yesterday, November 5. The sale will run up to Sunday, November 9, 2008.
The five-day sale is available both at Plaza Fair prominently located at Limketkai Mall as well as its satellite outlet, the aptly-named Fair Price Club which is right across Villa Ernesto Subdivision in barangay Gusa, this city.
Among the features of the five-day sale are buy-one take-one on selected department store items such as ready-to-wear, infants wear, baby shop, teens wear and toiletries along with a few goods at the grocery.
“Kagay-anons deserve an early noche buena,” Plaza Fair owner Danny Velasco was visibly happy upon seeing that many shoppers were queuing at the store.
“We are very thankful for this promo. I’m gonna fill my home with grocery goodies,” remarked shopper Rhea Ledesma.
“Ok kaayo ni, grabe among shopping karon,” added Kristine Ulla.
Celebrating 25 years in the business, Plaza Fair also offers discounts at the appliance store such as 20 percent off on home theater items, LCD television and furnitures like dining tables, cabinets and sala set.
For the month of November, there will be free gift-wrapping.
Plaza Fair management is also inviting working students to apply at the store. Qualified students will take entrance examinations before being accepted.
Plaza Fair (Limketkai Mall) caters customers from the western part of Northern Mindanao and neighboring provinces and cities such as Iligan City, Marawi City, Ozamiz City, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur and Misamis Occidental.
Fair Price Club at barangay Gusa across Villa Ernesto Subdivision caters to customers from the eastern part of the region such as those coming from Bukidnon, the Surigao and Agusan provinces as well as Camiguin.
Have an early merry Christmas at Plaza Fair and enjoy shopping!

michael_ray November 18th, 2008, 10:29 AM This is my last visit here in SSC for this month. Be back on Dec. It's our licensure exams na. Anyway, I would just like to express my disappointment with our neighbors here in Mindanao. I don't contest to the fact that Davao CIty is the most progressive city in Mindanao. It's majestic, blessed with everything. I have lots of relatives there. My uncle holds one of the congressional seats there. People there are nice. I just couldn't believe that there few EXCEPTIONAL souls down south. They are the people who don't want to see progress in other places in this island tagged as "the land of promise." Instead of being happy and supportive, they question, they drag, and they laugh with every development that Cagayan de Oro has attained. Worst, pictures of slum areas of Cagayan de Oro are posted in DAVAO thread. Let me ask everyone of you here, especially to that person that posted those pics. What's the point of posting photos of a slum area of our city in Davao City thread? Why do you have to post them? Nagdala ba ni na mga hugaw ug sakit sa inyong lugar? Is it still your concern? Wala lang? Wala tuyo-a? Na provoke ka mao nang na post nimo? If you were provoked by a certain CdeO forumer, do you take him AGAINST the ENTIRE CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY? Now I know, that there are people who loves REACTION FORMATION as their primary defense mechanism in dealing with their lives. Pwede DILI NA TA MAGPLINASTIKAY DIRI? I would to like to APPEAL to the moderators of SSC to take the necessary actions regarding this matter. Let us not make ssc as a battle ground of cities versus cities. I would like to APPEAL to my fellow CdeO forumers. Let's handle this professionally. Let's not go to their thread if we have nothing good to say. Let us prove to them and to everybody that we may NOT be as progressive and as blessed as their city. And that no matter how hard they try to emphasize that we DO NOT belong to their level. But there's one thing that we're holding, something that they can not remove from us. And that is we value our FAMILY, OUR SCHOOLS, and our CHURCH. These institutions have introduced us the fundamental aspects of life: ETHICS, MORALITY, and PROFESSIONALISM. No matter how progressive and wealthy a place is, but if the people who lives on it are PROFOUND and lacks the proper manner in dealing with other people... then useless. Sayang, daghan maayo na schools sa Davao City with a very high literacy rate only to be defeated with certain people who LOVES to CONCEAL their true INTENTIONS. May the ABSOLUTE THOU BLESS YOU with your deeds....

I forgot na sa mga rate nila isa pa hindi ako naggastos nun I-check mo lang first ang aircon dun kasi yan ang weakness nila ewan ko lang ngayon kung nagupgrade naba sila.
wow thanks for the information.. :) maganda nga tingnan eh.. hehehe..

Toymatz November 18th, 2008, 12:28 PM This is my last visit here in SSC for this month.

Pro-life advocates launch massive signature campaign
By Cong B. Corrales
LOCAL pro-life advocates have been busy lately with their own signature campaign after those who are for the passage of House Bill (HB) 05043, the controversial reproductive health bill, have reached the one million mark.
Dubbed as "Reproductive Health, Responsible Parenthood and Population Development Act of 2007," HB 05043 is an act providing for a national policy on reproductive health, responsible parenthood and population development, and for other purposes. It was filed in the lower house on July 24 last year and was penned by Representative Edcel Lagman.
"The measure seeks to provide the enabling environment for couples and individuals to enjoy the right to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children and to have the information, education and access to safe, effective, affordable and acceptable methods of family planning of their choice," the said bill's abstract stated.
The reproductive bill is in a "period of interpellation" in the House of Representatives and is considered an unfinished business of the 46th Congress.
Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro (Acdo), told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that he welcomed the signature campaign race, saying it encourages public awareness and shows the importance of public opinion.
"We have on-going signature campaigns in our parishes. I am happy that more and more churches are coming out with their positions, as this is the very essence of democracy," Ledesma said.
Ledesma, however, reiterated that the church is actively promoting the Natural Family Planning (NFP) program as an alternative to the artificial contraceptive methods prescribed in the reproductive health bill.
In an interview with Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro, Corazon Calub, chair of Serve LIFE-CDO Inc., a local pro-life advocate, admitted their group has not been hugging the headlines lately but said it was because their group had been busy with its own signature campaign and had been vigorously educating people on the disadvantages of the said bill -- one household to another.
"We are busy with our own signature campaign to counterbalance, if not surpass, the pro-choice camp's one million signatures gathered," Calub said.
Their group, Calub said, has also gathered 1,400 signatures in only two masses their group sponsored at SM and is optimistic it could gather more in time for the opening of the next regular session of the lower house.
"Of the two masses we've sponsored at SM for pro-lifers, we have gathered 1,400 signatures already. Imagine how many signatures we'll collect in the signature campaigns we've launch in local parishes," Calub said.
Calub said that she found their door-to-door campaign more fulfilling because she feels the government has not really educated the broad masses on the real consequences of the said bill.
"It has been a great opportunity for us to educate the people on the issue. Imagine...When we translated and explained the proposed bill to many of our people, they were shocked," Calub told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro this paper adding that the question on how much the bill will cost once implemented and who is going to shoulder the cost remains hanging.
"Consider the figures study: how much this (reproductive bill) is going to cost? Who's shouldering the implementation of the bill? But we are prepared for the worse. We feel this is a winable cause, and if we don't win--there are still other battlegrounds. We are here to stay and we will not be cowed," said Calub indignantily.
She hinted that there are backdoor negotiations going on between some legislators and their ranks. Part of their legislative lobbying efforts has paved the formalization of a network of pro-life advocates. Calub said they need to build an alliance with professionals, basic sectors because she felt that they are things that the church cannot say in public--owing to its conservative stand.
"Naay backdoor negotiations going on. We have formalized the network of pro-life advocates. There are things only we can dare say because as you know church has always taken the conservative stand," Calub said.
Pro-choice
Eleony Monding, chair of Tingog sa Kasanag (Tisaka), for her part, views the reproductive health bill as a vehicle that will liberate women from abuse and discrimination.
"Kaming mga kababayen-an adunay katungod sa among kaugalingong lawas. Kanus-a kami maburos, when kami manguhit og when mo dili," Monding told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
Pro-choice advocates in Cagayan de Oro have been supporting the reproductive health bill albeit silently because, according to them, the Catholic Church has been dominating the debate on the said bill.
"Let's take the calendar method, you are curtailing the biological right of the woman if you deny her sexual contact when she is ovulating. In a way, it is still an unnatural method of family planning," Monding said.
Dora Ellevera, a long time member of Filipina-Cagayan de Oro, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that to make your stand on the issue is a personal matter.
"I am not a spokesperson of Filipina but for me, personally, I am pro-reproductive health bill. We should respect the rights of women. Let the woman decide for her own body. Our organization, though, have been in the forefront, kay apil man mi mismo sa formulation sa bill. Ang naka-apan lang kay wala lang kaayo mapasabot sa katawhan," Ellevera said.
Pitt Pugahan, Aids prevention staff of Alagad Mindanao, said that even though their organization still doesn't have an official stand on the reproductive health bill, their organization have been advocating the use of condoms for the prevention of Aids (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
"Regardless of marital status, we are advocating condom use for the prevention aspect of Aids but not for the purpose of family planning," Pugahan said.
But personally, Pugahan argues that the freedom of choice is curtailed and should let the people decide for themselves.
"We have a simple way of remembering prevention of AIDS--its what we call 'ABCDE.' Letter A is for abstinence, Be monogamous, Careful sex (by using condoms or non-penetration), Do away from drugs and Education," Pugahan said.

ph_matrix November 18th, 2008, 02:59 PM Water stations for fire pushed
A CAGAYAN de Oro City councilor proposed Monday the use of river water for firefighting, fire drills and watering of plants to help minimize the ballooning expenses of Cagayan de Oro Water District (Cowd).
Councilor Teodulfo Lao, in his special report on Monday's regular session, presented Cowd Board of Directors Resolution 305-2006 that calls for the establishment of water filling stations along the riverbanks in all viable rivers in Cagayan de Oro City.
Lao told his colleagues in the City Council that water from the river could be used for quelling fires in the city and could minimize the Cowd's expenses.
The cash-strapped water facility has been buying bulk water since January last year from Rio Verde Water Consortium, owned by white knight Jose Alvarez, with a minimum purchase of 50,000 cubic meters a day at P10.45 per cubic meter. The sum has ballooned to an estimate total of P190,712,500 every year.
Cowd has also been paying the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) for its loan amounting to P1 billion, aside from its other contractual obligations and tax woes.
"By establishing some water filling stations in the city, this could save at least 20 percent annually on water consumption which will enable perhaps the Cowd to earn more profit and address the utmost demand of their concessionaires," Lao said.
For his part, Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, chair of committee on public utilities, said that his committee had already taken up the proposition to have a water filling station from Cagayan de Oro River.
It can be recalled that the City Fire Department had earlier requested in Nacaya's committee meeting two water pumps so it could directly siphon water from the river.
Councilor Ramon Tabor, majority floor leader, supported Lao's suggestion, saying he has observed that fire trucks have had difficulty in penetrating fire because of the small alleys in the city.
Tabor said the city could also buy boats equipped with pumps to siphon water from the river and respond to fire incidents faster. (CBC)

Most are brown-skinned of Malay descent and some with mixed ancestry popularly known to locals as mestizo.
The city is home to several universities and colleges. Xavier University, Liceo de Cagayan University and Capitol University are known in the fields of nursing, medicine, agriculture, engineering and commerce.
Cagayan de Oro is known as "The Gateway to Northern Mindanao" because of its location and good transportation facilities. However, it is through her warm and hospitable people that the city became more known as "The City of Golden Friendship".

Cagayan de Oro is also known as "The City of Golden Friendship"
Brief History of Cagayan de Oro
Two thousand years ago, there were already ancient Kagay-anons living around the vicinity of Hulaga, Himologan and Tagbalitang caves around 8 kilometers south of Cagayan de Oro City.
Fr. Francisco Demetrio, S.J., noted archeologist and Filipino folklorist of Xavier University had collected tools, implements, potteries and shards from these areas and subjected these to the Carbon dating process at the Philippine Historical Museum to determine their age.
It was found that these tools and implements were already used by the ancient Kagay-anons during the Neolithic Age.
This shows how old Cagayan de Oro is before the coming of the Spanish “conquistadors” to the Philippines in march 1521. There were three great Sultanates of Mindanao and Sulu.
These were Sultanates of Sulu under Sheriff Aljaluddin, the Sultanate of Maguindanao under Sheriff Mawi, and Tagoloan under Sheriff Mohammed Kabungsuwan.
The Sultanate of Tagoloan extended from Baloi, Lanao del Sur, to Butuan, Cagayan de Oro (or Kalambaguhan, by which name it was then known), was merely a passageway from Baloi to Butuan, which was already a great trading center like Zugbu, Panay and Manila.
Kalambaguhan has a small settlement of Bukidnons who lived along the riverbanks of the Kalambaguhan River. This river (now the Cagayan River) was so known because of the “Lambago” trees that grew profusely along its banks.
During this time, however, the Cachel Corralat (Sultan Kudarat) marauding warriors attacked such places as Manticao, Tagnipa, (El Salvador), Iligan and Kalambaguhan to bring these places with their domain. They captured the women, children and working animals of the inhabitants in these places and brought them to their Sultanate.
Because of these constant raids, the Bukidnons along the river fled to the hills of Hulaga led by their ruler, Datu Salangsang.
Sometime in 1622, long after the Spaniards had established themselves at Butuan, Spanish friars under Fray Agustin de San Pedro known as “El Padre Capitan” went to see Datu Salangsang and sought to invite him and his people to come down to their told settlement at Kalambaguhan under the protection of the Spaniards.
Datu Salangsang’s aunt, a Christianized woman of influence whose name was Magdalena Bacuya. With a messenger from El Padre Capitan reiterated his offer to Datu Salangsang and convinced him to come down to their ancient settlement of Kalambaguhan.
To protect the Bukidnons from the constant raids of the Muslim from Cachel Corralat, El Padre Capitan built a fortification around the settlement, which is now Gaston Park.
Several raids of the Maguindanao warriors were repulsed by the courageous El Padre Capitan that the Muslims never returned again to the settlement.
It was from this small settlement that the present Cagayan de Oro originated. A small church was built on the site, which later became the present San Agustin Cathedral.
Thereby, the fame of El Padre Capitan as an able military strategist, spread far and wide. He vanquished the Muslims around Lake Lanao.
The people of Cagayan de Oro come from a blend of two cultures those of the Muslims and Bukidnons. These were the native people that had settled in the region long before the coming of the Spaniards in fact, the first Christians among these natives were the Muslims from Lanao who were the descendants of the Samporna clan.
They were the first to be baptized along with the Bato-Batos, the Wagas, Abas, Dagumbals and several families.
How did Cagayan de Oro got its name?
Pre-War folks said that Cagayan came from “Cagaycay, ” an ancient Bukidnon word meaning to rake in the earth either with one’s bare hands or with a piece of wood. It also means rocks gathered from the river or ores raked in from the hillside or streams.
Gold have always been abundant in the Cagayan River gold ores are still found in the nearby of Cagayan as Tumpagon, Pigsag-an, Tuburan, Taglimao and other nearby places. Before the Spaniards came to Cagayan (or Kalambaguhan), there were already places where on could rake in the earth.
Another version is more romantic
Another version of how Cagayan de Oro got its name is told in of that story of a Bukidnon chieftain on the eastern side of Cagayan River (whose name according to old folks was Mansicampo), once had a quarrel with a Muslim Datu across the river (now the RER Subdivision), his name was Bagongsalibo.
The quarrel became intense that the Bukidnon chieftain wanted it settled by war. However, the Muslim Datu across the river wanted to live in peace with his people in that part of Cagayan.
Mansicampo then called on all his followers and relatives from the Bukidnon tribes of Daan Lunsod, gathered on the eastern side of the river ready for combat then Mansicampo ordered his son, the Bagani, to go and see Datu Bagongsalibo and arranged for a council of war.
Therefore, the young prince went to see the Muslim Datu and confirmed with him. During the conference, however the young prince noted that there was a beautiful young woman who kept on peeping from behind a door looking at him.
She was so beautiful that the young prince was immediately captivated and forgot his main purpose in the council. The young prince immediately proposed his intentions to the Muslim Datu who was only too willing to accept his land in marriage as he was not very keen about going to war against a neighbor.
When the Bukidnon chieftain heard about his son proposing marriage to the daughter of his enemy. His warriors bid goodbye and left to live near the hills of Lumbia vowing never return to his former settlement which he now call “Kagayha-an” (or in Bukidnon, a place of shame).
Since then, Cagayan de Oro has grown into one of the most peaceful and progressive cities in the entire Philippines.
