Sidelined ships seek Subic harbor
December 26, 2008 21:07:00
Kristine L. Alave
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines--The global financial meltdown that sidelined many cruise liners and cargo ships could prove to be a golden opportunity for Filipinos, Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said.

According to Roque, several cruise liners and cargo vessels have docked in Subic Bay harbor in the past few months due to lack of business, waiting out the recession that has discouraged their clients from vacationing and reduced cargo orders.

Roque said the government has been in talks with other shipping firms to use the Subic port.

“We would like to invite maritime owners to see the Philippines as a lay-up area for their ships in a bid to generate local employment,” Roque said in a recent media interview.

Sources said around 15 cruise and cargo vessels had docked in Subic, Zambales province.

Previously, Roque said many cruise liners and cargo vessels let go workers and seafarers because of the economic downturn, although he said the government was expecting the situation to improve by the end of 2009.

“It has really affected container vans because it meant that there would be less goods to ship,” the labor secretary said.

He said Filipinos could serve as skeleton crew that could check the liners from time to time. The vessel owners would also need maintenance crew and security guards, he added.

Aside from Subic, Roque said the government also offered the ports in Cagayan de Oro and Davao to shipping and cruise firms.

The labor chief said Filipinos workers were known for being diligent and proficient in English, skills valued by foreign employers.

Zoobic will be an added attraction sa Normin. anyway @dark, imposible ang panda bear sa atin sa Pinas mahal kaayo. i remember when we went to San Diego Zoo, i learned that they are paying China 1 million US dollars just to keep a panda bear (that's per panda bear). i dont think Zoobic can afford that, but it will be cool tho kung kaya nila.

Difference between CDO and CdeO explained
By Annabelle L. Ricalde and Mark Francisco

THERE must be plenty of differences between "CDO" and "CdeO" -- monicker of Cagayan de Oro -- for Councilor Alden Bacal to pass a resolution to change it properly.

For one, Bacal, who chairs the Committee on Tourism, doesn't like the monicker "CDO" because it is the same with a famous brand of carne norte and sardines.

Bacal said "CdeO" is more appropriate because the initials "de" has some historical basis on it.

"Cagayan de Oro the city of Gold was formerly known as Cagayan de Misamis," he said.

Bacal said there would be no penalty for anyone who refused to use the city's official initials "CdeO" once his resolution is passed as a local ordinance.

But he cautioned those who will be stubborn and still use the monicker "CDO" that it is already a registered brand owned by businesswoman Corazon Dy Ong, the carne norte and sardine maker.

Bacal said the City Government would not lift a finger to anyone who will be accused of copyright infringement for using "CDO."

City officials have frowned after Ong's carne norte and sardines became a household brand two years ago.

Agnes Paulita Roa, the chair of the Cagayan de Oro Historical Commission, said calling Cagayan de Oro as "CDO" is an abomination because they somehow reduced her beloved city into brine-cured meat.

"Every time naa koy mga bisita diri, mangu-tana g'yud dayon na sila kung diri ba gihimo ang CDO carne norte (Every visitor we had will ask if CDO carne norte is made here)," Roa said.

Roa have been campaigning since then to change the official city initials from "CDO" to "CdeO."

Councilor Simeon Licayan said there would be no problem in making Bacal's resolution into an ordinance because there are other ordinances that establish the official seal and marching song.

AH WHEW OK... BITAW NO LAIN KUNG CDO KAY CARNE NORTE ANG MAHUNA HUNAAN PERO ANG NAADAN MAN CGURO GUD KAY CDO... MURAG BAKIKAW MAN GUD KUNG IINGON NGA C.D.E.O.... pwedeg... C DEH O. CAGAYAN DEH ORO. :)

Thank you po!

If you're opting for a cheap accomodation, as opposed to High class EXPENSIVE hotel... then I think KINGSTON LODGE is perfect... it's near the airport and they have a restaurant of their own.

http://kingston-lodge.com/

but why do you want a hotel near the airport may I ask? :) Di naman mahirap mag taxi papunta airport.. hehehe and mas marami ka pang options for restaurants if you stay closer to the city center... Anyways.. enjoy Cagayan! :D

ORO companies ready for January 5 business permit renewal (http://themindanaocurrent.blogspot.com/2008/12/oro-companies-ready-for-january-5.html)

"You are our partners. The City Government will not be here if not for your support." This was the statement of the Division Chief of the City Treasurer's Office, Mr. Rey Pabito during the City Taxes forum conducted at the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation (Oro Chamber) - PUM Training Room last December 18.

The forum was organized by the Oro Chamber in partnership with Coca-Cola, Parasat Cable TV, Sunstar CDO, Zest-o and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro to ready the local business community for the renewal and registration of business permits starting January 5, 2009.

Around 60 member and non-member companies participated in the forum and were able to get the answers straight from the horse's mouth on the different problems they encountered during business registrations.

One major concern was about the different sanitary permits that a business has to get when a corporation has many businesses under it. Mr. Pabito explained that it was necessary to have sanitary permits for each business since it caters to different types of services even if it is located in one area but also emphasized to only pay once for the other fees such as oath of office, garbage fee etc. He also added that for businesses having different branches, a separate business permit for each is required but only one building permit in case of a hotel and restaurant in one location.

He furthered that registration of delivery vans has to be renewed every year, so even if the delivery van was registered only in November of the current year, it has to be renewed by January of the next year.

Mr. Pabito also encouraged the participants to duly renew and register their businesses staring January 5 to January 20 to avoid paying the 25% penalty plus 2% tax of the month of January and reminded them to attach the old permit in the application form for renewals including barangay clearance and cedula to avoid delays.

"We will be glad to answer your questions and clarify issues," he assured them.

Oro Chamber President Rudy Meńes personally thanked the City Government under the leadership of Mayor TINNEX Jaraula and the City Treasurer's Office for their unwavering support to the activities of the Chamber through out the year.

Oro Chamber is gearing up for 2009. This early, the Chamber has already aligned its monthly forum topics for next year which will include peace and order, taxes, business prospects, economic situationer, labor relations and benefits, business and workplace safety and ICT development. (OC PR)

Proclaimed IT Building na rin pala ang Robinsons Bldg sa LKK

source (http://www.ops.gov.ph/records/issuances-proc/Proc1509.pdf)

It's very new to me.

Teka nga, parang maramin nang mga IT buildings dito sa CDO na declared as IT Zone pero wala namang locators hanggang ngayon like SM, Ororama Mega (nasunog nalang), Georgetown Cybermall, etc. Ano ba ang hinahabol nila? Para lang makaexcuse sa tax? Balik sa Robinsons Bldg, diba klaro na tindahan yan bakit naman nakapasa siya as IT Center ng PEZA?

The use of CDO initials to refer to Cagayan de Oro City should not be confused with the CDO products. For me, there is nothing wrong using CDO to refer to Cagayan de oro because the initials of Cagayan de Oro is in fact CDO. Whenever I see CDO products I will always remember Cagayan de Oro City, although CDO products are not made in Cagayan de Oro City. However, indirectly or directly, CDO products also help promote Cagayan de Oro City.

No one has the exclusive use of the CDO initials. In fact CDO can mean anything, depending on the usage and context, as follows:
- Cagayan de Oro City
- CDO carne norte
- CDO coconut gel
- Cease and Desist Order

CDO to refer to Cagayan de Oro City is being widely used by all airlines.

Using CDO is simpler and convenient to write and read than CDeO.

Guys, OT muna ako. This video inspires me. Sino bang mag-aakala na Dubai would be as great as this. Years ago, perhaps a decade ago, Dubai was not popular. Pag sinabi mong middle east, it's always Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Today, Dubai has become a super power city in the world. They have the tallest building, the only 7star hotell in the world, and the magnificent man made Palm Islands. If China was trying to impress the world during the recently concluded Olympics. Sabi ng Dubai... "Yan lang ang kaya nyo??? Watch and Learn..." :)

b2EtnJZcrHQ

I am not trying to compare Dubai with other parts of the world like China and Riyadh. My point here is, any city could be great. The small cities today can be the most powerful in the future. This is my dream for CdeO. And I can feel it already. :)

michael_ray
December 30th, 2008, 01:36 PM
And this is Cagayan de Oro... once small, once unknown, once inferior... now ready to STRIKE!

Hi. Just would like to ask, whats up with this CDEO and DAVAO pasuyaan going on diri sa Philippine threads? I've been lurking around reading and from what i had been observing it seems like, well i thought were all grown ups who post desirable, rational or responsible comments. But it turned out some men are just a bunch of kids picking at each other showing their true colors. You know what i mean pa dungog2x sa pikas or diri. I dislike stereotyping but isn't it we filipinos are known for attitudes like Crab Mentality? It's like oh yeah my city is better than yours or No mines better! Our mall is bigger No ours is building the would be tallest building in mindanao. Oh crap, no wonder were stuck and left behind by our asian neighbors because of this stupid crab mentality. Why can't we get along then huh? Some men has ego's bigger than their balls perhaps.

Bdw, im not from cagayan nor davao but i've been to both places and both cities are unique in its own and also has a lot to work on too. All our cities are not perfect ok. I live and work in cebu (am from zambo) and i dislike it's pollution and the city's high crime rate but then again each city has its charms to offer. Let's cut the crap guys. Unta we should be nationalistic putting more emphasis on country rather than regional. posted this on both CDEO and DAVAO threads.

Kugi uswag Mindanao!

Even if we don't have AYALA yet, we are already having a taste of it through LKK mall.. We don't have to daydream of AYALA coz the feeling is real to us. Matagal na. Paano kasi homegrown ang mall namin pero sosyal... Halos walang pinagkaiba sa ayala malls. At hindi lang kami ang may sabi nyan, even my friends from Cebu have said it. Eh ang sa inyo? Pakicheck nga ang sahig kung malinis ba... At pakicheck na rin ang toilet kung laser ba... At ang mga shops ninyo, do they have posh interior designs? At paglabas ninyo sa mall? Parking lot kaagad? Walang mga restaurants and bars? And dude, for you to say may "miss, do you have other size of thispolo? Nag english pa ang urang. Pa sosyal effect pero mali2x naman... Anong polo eh nasa MALDITA sya? Ahahaha! Polo is a brand dude. In case you don't know. Happy New Year CdeO Shoppers! :)

May jolibee na pala sa agora  well as far as I know...

May golf din dun.. pero malayo yung xavier from Marco hotel, you can still drive papunta dun but medyo malayo na talaga...

hope this helps (sorry medyo outdated na information ko sa CDO, been away for a while now baka madami na nagbago... :ohno:)

And way, the pictures of LKK that you have posted did not feature the entire LKK. LKK have skypark, lush green LKK avenue with lively and beautiful Rosario Strip and The Site na napuno na gyud ug restaurants and bars and daghan pa na ga open bai... Plus LKK is still expanding and constructions are everywhere (gateway mall, corporate tower, overpass, hotels). You'll never get my point unless ikaw mismo moanhi diri and experience LKK today. Yung ma experience mo talaga and hindi sa picture lang. LKK is not just a mall, it's a lifestyle center with bars, restaurants, and beautiful greeneries outside it that is very similar to the concept of Ayala Malls. So it is not just the mall itself, okay? And as of now, murag wala pay in-ana na mall in Mindanao. And that's my opinion. I am entitled to that.

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/RED-FRED-PERRY-POLO-SHIRT-SMALL-38-BNWT-MOD-PUNK_W0QQitemZ250347992150QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMen_s_Clothes?hash=item250347992150&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1240|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

ito ata ang origins ng "polo shirt" (though I cannot say completely accurate kay wikipedia man)

Polo shirt:A tennis shirt, now commonly called a polo shirt and also known as a golf shirt, is a T-shaped shirt with a collar, typically two or three buttons down a slit below the collar, and an optional pocket. A zipper may substitute for buttons, or neither may be present. Polo shirts are usually made of knitted cloth (rather than woven cloth), usually pique cotton or, less commonly, silk, merino wool, or synthetic fibers.

Application to polo and other sports
Before Lacoste’s 1933 mass-marketing of his tennis shirt, polo players wore thick long-sleeve shirts made of Oxford-cloth cotton.[5] This shirt was the first to have a buttoned-down collar, which polo players invented in the late nineteenth century to keep their collars from flapping in the wind (Brooks Brothers's early president John Brooks noticed this while at a polo match in England, and began producing such a shirt in 1896).[5][6] Brooks Brothers still produces this style of button-down "polo shirt".[5] Still, like early tennis clothing, those clothes presented a discomfort on the field, and when polo players became aware of Lacoste’s invention in the 1930s they readily adopted it for use in polo.

Ralph Lauren (polo) wasnt founded till 1968

http://www.infomat.com/whoswho/ralphlauren.html

While working at A. Rivetz & Co., Lauren began designing wide ties, which spawned his first entrepreneurial career. With his tie designs and a $50,000 loan, Lauren founded the company Polo Fashions in 1968. Along with his older brother, he chose the name Polo because of the power, style and intrigue that the brand has always been associated with.

SO FYI, Polo Shirts arent limited to Ralph Lauren Polo's

Hi, from Ororama Lapasan, take a Cugman or Bugo jeepney. Since youre not very familiar with the place yet, sabihin mo sa Alwana Business Park ka i-drop. from there, pwede mo na lakarin ang Marco.

about sa Golf driving range, sa Sports Zone yun. walang jeepney na dumadaan dun kaya no choice, mag cab ka nalang. malapit lang naman yun, it's not gonna cost you much.

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/RED-FRED-PERRY-POLO-SHIRT-SMALL-38-BNWT-MOD-PUNK_W0QQitemZ250347992150QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMen_s_Clothes?hash=item250347992150&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1240|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

ito ata ang origins ng "polo shirt" (though I cannot say completely accurate kay wikipedia man)

SO FYI, Polo Shirts arent limited to Ralph Lauren Polo's

kay nakaadto na man jud kog LKK ug Ayala malls (ACC and Glorietta/Greenbelt)

but then the details that make ayala malls special sama sa greeneries (although naay gamayng landscaping ang LKK) ug kanang small things like nicely built signage, tarong nga ceiling and materials sa mga walls etc..the fine details that set Ayala and even SM Malls apart ... are missing

kung sa ambience, murag G-Mall ra gud oi (the newly renovated G-mall ha)..nice but naa gihapon kulang to put it nga same level sa ayala malls (or even SM for that matter)

and this my friend is the key line ;)

matanong nga kita, kailan ka ba huling pumunta ng LKK at parang sure na sure ka sa mga pinagsasabi mo?

last time i was at lkk was late 2006. ang sinasabi ko lang naman, sure maganda ang LKK but you guys are just hyping it too much,

nice ang flooring sa LKK, nice ang storefronts and nice ang layout but it lacks the fine details that the ayala malls (or even the SM malls) have (seriously, tan-awa ra gud sa pics and compare)

gaya nga ng sabi ko

nice sab ang storefronts sa LKK, but dili "ayala-nice" murag sama ra gud anang sa G-Mall karon

but then the details that make ayala malls special sama sa greeneries (although naay gamayng landscaping ang LKK) ug kanang small things like nicely built signage, tarong nga ceiling and materials sa mga walls etc..the fine details that set Ayala and even SM Malls apart ... are missing

kung sa ambience, murag G-Mall ra gud oi (the newly renovated G-mall ha)..nice but naa gihapon kulang to put it nga same level sa ayala malls (or even SM for that matter)

but if you guys insist nga "halos walang pinagkaiba sa ayala" then go ahead, bahala kayong maglokohan ;) ang akin lang naman eh lets keep things level-headed lang sana

S M Cebu too with the opening of The North Wing. LKK is doing the same.

So while I agree nga nice ang LKK (i like sprawling malls and ganahan ko sa layout), it lacks the fine details that the ayala malls have para maingon nimo nga "halos walang pinagkaiba" tan-awa na lang sa pics to see, maski sa gawas (sama sa entrance canopy, the unpainted (2006) wall sa underpass, the ugly signage nga "west concourse" man ata to)

all these fine details arent left out sa ayala malls (or maskin sa SM) which makes them special over ordinary malls

2.I agree, malay natin sobrang ganda nga ng LKK pag natapos, but what we are disputing is the hype ng iba na "halos walang pinagkaiba"

ibabalik ko lang ang quote ni darky

mas may pa paminawon ang pait nga tinood kaysa tam-is nga bakak
