Ultralight Flying in Bukidnon

http://pinoyadventures.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ultralight-flying-bukidnon-carlito-frias.jpg

Have you ever wondered how your hometown would look from an eagle’s point of view?

Well, there is a Filipino-American, named Cal Frias, living in Damilag, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, who retired from his medical technician job in California to come home and settle down, where he has the freedom to fly his Ultra Light Plane whenever and wherever he wants. It’s his passion, he says, and it’s what he likes to do during his spare time.

But flying alone is boring and lonely, so Cal has invited his neighbors and friends to fly with him. He doesn’t charge much, just a payment for gas, because he just loves to fly. But, he reasons out, if he can fly for free, then why not?

If you want to try it, contact Gina at La Montana Tours & Vans or send a message on ISLANDS WANDERLUST Facebook account so that they can have you booked into Cal’s fully-booked schedule. This includes a 20-minute flight and warm breakfast on the airfield.

Another new investment will be opening soon at the South Bank Plaza. MALT CAFE AND ART LOUNGE will be established at the corner, the one separated from the building complex at the corner of Velez and Yacapin Streets, Cagayan de Oro City.

Based on the ad, the place will offer coffee, artisan breads, breakfast, light meals and pastries…basically ideal for small business talk and perhaps coffee table issues about the daily lives in the city and its progress. There’s still some construction work going on beside it…maybe a neon or LED signage? What’s important, another business will open, more job opportunities.

maybe there will be some paintings or even sculptures inside this coffee shop hehehe

RTA to prepare plan for area around Ayala

THE Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) will hatch up a plan in the coming months on how to contain vehicular flow once an Ayala shopping mall opens occupying a whole block along CM Recto Avenue. This is based on an article published in a local daily.

In the said article, accordingly RTA overseer Supt. Antonio Montalba will be coordinating with all those affected with the traffic flow which includes the management of the Ayala shopping mall, Gaisano City Mall, and the management of other businesses located in the area such as Graphics All-in Communications. Members of the newly created civic group called Cagayan de Oro Campaigners for Road Courtesy and Discipline are also expected to be included in the planning stage in overhauling traffic flow in the area.

http://cagayandeorodev.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/img_6414.jpg?w=468&h=465

They might as well also include the management of Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD), both with expected high number of motorists/visitors which often park along the Floirendo property perimeter.

As shown below, the small property at the top left corner (across Corrales Avenue) is also that of Floirendo’s (I think). Perhaps they should also consider if a “drive-thru” establishment is being planned there.

http://cagayandeorodev.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/img_6417.jpg?w=468&h=486

Meanwhile, the sidewalk vendors along CM Recto and V. Roa Street have been demolished by RTA more than a week ago.

with article by Mark Francisco of GSD

looks like we'll be expecting heavy traffic when the mall and hotel will open. i believe theyll open simultaneously because theyll build them simultaneously.

Pile driving is still on-going at the business hotel site of Paseo del Rio. At the same time, earthfilling is also being undertaken. As shown in the pictures below, the construction management has erected a field office onsite and some sheet walls installed near the rotunda.

The passage of hauling trucks to and from the project site have drawn ire among motorists in the area where mud from the site being deposited on the paved road thereby causing an unsightly scene especially during heavy rains. The engineers onsite have so far cleaned up their mess and opened an alternate entrance along Biasong Road.

Gov't to prioritize Mindanao Railway
November 22, 2010, 7:30pm
Manila Bulletin

MANILA, Philippines – The government is exploring the possibility of prioritizing the development of the proposed Mindanao Railway, a proposal which was originally hatched during the Estrada administration and was pushed by then ARMM chairman Nur Misuari.

“Explore the possibility of prioritizing the Mindanao Railway,” stated an aide memoire of the National Economic and Development Authority following the recent consultation on the chapter on infrastructure under the 2010-2016 Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan.

Most recent project estimates have placed the total project cost at P66.5-billion, approximately $1.33-billion.

It is envisioned to be implanted in four phases: initially from Laguindingan to Cagayan de Oro City; second from Laguindingan to Iligan City ; third from Cagayan de Oro to Phividec area in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and the fourth phase from Iligan City to Linamon town, Lanao del Norte. The project aims to cut the present 90-minute travel time by buys between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to 15-20 minutes.

The initial Mindanao strategic railway development plan will link urban centers like Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Marawi, Cotabato and Davao cities.

The Mindanao Railway System project aims to provide a sage and economical transport alternative for moving goods and people in Mindanao , which in the long run, will help in the socio-economic development of the island.

The Mindanao Railway System is part of the list of projects identified and presented to investors for medium-term rollout at the recently-concluded Public-Private Partnership forum.

A feasibility study for the project is being reviewed and deliberated by the NEDA Regional Office 10, but a more detailed FS still need to be determined. Initial timetable points to a phased project implementation through PPP to be undertaken in 2011.

The proposed rail will span the entirety of Mindanao with a total length of approximately 2000 kilometers.

The master plan indicates connections to all major population centers in Mindanao . The railway network will be implemented in phases.

Phase 1 calls for the construction of a 124-km railway line from Iligan City to Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao.

It will traverse ten coastal municipalities in Misamis Oriental, namely: Lugait, Manticao, Naawan, Initao, Libertad, Gitagum, Laguindingan, Alubijid , El Salvador and Opol.

Earlier, the project was scheduled to start in 2011 with the initial spur of the first phase between Cagayan de Oro City and the new airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

But the entire project would take 5-7 years to complete. (BCM)

this is be another huge project that will make CdeO and Normin as a place of business and investment in the island

How do various stakeholders differ to the Brand? (http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/2010/11/how-do-various-stakeholders-differ-to-the-brand.html)

http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/PED_1.jpg

PILIPINAS Kay Ganda! Was pull out from the web and the new brand was shut down by a barrage of negative comments from the Tourism Industry. From what was envisioned by the new Boss at the Department of Tourism as a brand to replace WOW Philippines to bring new heights to tourism growth in this country to 3.3 Million marks for 2011 with 17% growth in the next 3 years with a proposed budget of P200 Million was doomed from start to finish.

It was not the money that we will spend for tourism promotions that the stakeholders differ but the marketing concept how the Philippines will be sold as a destination caused so much concern from the rank and file up to the investors in the industry.

During the time of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, WOW Philippines was retained with a new marketing twist of “More than the Usual”, a campaign that hit the international market and brought growth to the industry from the extreme sports travelers, special interest groups and returning travelers.

The DOT statistics in the last 3 years can show the growth pattern and made even Cagayan de Oro as the 4th most favored destination in the Philippines. With White Water Rafting, Dahilayan Zip Line and Bukidnon Farm Tours and Camiguin Island visit as the top market producers.

During a late night ANC TV interview, Mr. Cesar Cruz, President of the Philippine Association of Travel and Tours (PHILTOA) who was a recent visitor to Cagayan de Oro City under the auspices of the Department of Tourism Region 10 and the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) made his revelations.

The stakeholders in Philippine Tourism has never been “this united against the new brand” proposed by DOT. Accordingly, there are flaws in the use of the Pilipino language to sell the Philippines in the international market where English is the common language.

Many things were spoken, printed in Twitter and in the various opinion pages of the leading national newspapers on how unprepared and the lack of research the new leaders of the tourism body in this country before doing their act. This prompted even the President, Pres. Noy Aquino, to set a meeting with the Secretary of Tourism.

Both should come to terms on what is the perceived need or purpose for what we are trying to do? What caused the Stakeholders to see this as a problem that needed to be solved and who is going to contribute resources knowing that the Government does not have enough money for tourism promotions? After all, it has been pronounced by the President’s Inaugural speech that he needs private participation and cooperation.

We wish them good luck to come out with better ideas acceptable to the industry. More than ever, the hotels, restaurants, travel and tourism trade practioners in Cagayan de Oro City are behind the vision of the President “patungo sa matuwid ng landas”.

number 4? wow! that's certainly a giant leap

Barangay identified as eco zone
Wednesday, November 24, 2010

TWO lawmakers citing the city's status as the gateway to the island of Mindanao and the focal point of domestic and foreign trade, have passed a legislative measure seeking to establish a special economic zone in Barangay Balubal.

Rep. Rufus Rodriguez (2nd district) said House Bill 1393 hopes to turn Barangay Balubal into an economic zone, since the area is one of the fast-growing barangays in Cagayan de Oro.

"Its location is an ideal site for industrial, commercial and recreational centers with a typhoon-free climate," said Rodriguez, who co-authored the bill with his brother Representative Maximo Rodriguez of Abante Mindanao (AbaMin).

He added that the barangay can also serve as a major trade entry and exit point, considering the numerous seaports in its neighboring barangays.

Rodriguez further pointed out the barangay's peace and order condition, which is favorable for good infrastructures and utilities "conducive to sustainable growth and development".

For his part, Representative Maximo Rodriguez believes that the establishment of a special economic zone in Barangay Balubal will improve the economic condition of the city and the nearby provinces.

The two congressmen said residents in the area and the nearby provinces will be assured of local employment opportunities that will speed up economic growth.

Cagayan de Oro is known as the export outlet of the vast agricultural products in Mindanao because of its rich agricultural and forest lands, mineral resources and tourist spots. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)

The Monuments of Divisoria
By Paulita R. Roa

Past Speaks

Monday, November 15, 2010

PUBLIC monuments are usually impressive, stately, at times colossal and grand structures that are made of stone, bronze, marble and iron. Monuments are usually erected to commemorate an important historical event or to honor men and women with extraordinary contributions to society. It gives us a sense of identity of who we are as a people.

There are four monuments in Divisoria. The oldest is the monument of our national hero, Jose P. Rizal. It was erected in 1917, making it the first and oldest one in Divisoria. A small marker etched on a block of marine stone contains this brief and impassioned dedication in Spanish:

"Rizal! Para perpetuar tu memoria, te dedicamos este recuerdo, humilde si, pero con ello van nuestros mas caros afectos brotados desde al fondo de nuestras almas y, a todo Kagayan que te venera, sirvale de guia para seguir tu ejemplo. (Rizal! To perpetuate your memory, we dedicate this remembrance, humble but filled with precious affection of our souls, and all Kagayan salute you, and will strive to live your example.)"

The marker is also the oldest one in the city. It has the date of the possible inauguration of the monument - June 19, 1917 which was Rizal's 46th birthday. A wealthy couple whose names are in the marker are the donors of the Rizal monument. Don Porferio Chaves was an officer of the Liber Troop, the local resistance army during the 1900-1901 Philippine American War. His wife, Doña Fausta Vamenta de Chaves donated the land where the Macasandig Elementary School now stands.

Across the Rizal monument is the bronze statue of Mayor Justiniano R. Borja that stands on a black marble pedestal. This is the work of National Artist Napoleon Abueva and the donor is the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro. The Mayor is shown with his hand on his back pocket, his favorite stance when standing and talking to his constituents. It is a pity that the base of the statue was sunk deeper to the pedestal that it covered the signature of Abueva.

Borja is the first elected Mayor of the then new City of Cagayan de Oro in 1954. He died in office ten years later at the age of 52.He is considered "The Father of Cagayan de Oro."The bronze statue was first located on the park behind the Rizal monument. On June 15, 2000, it was moved to its present location facing Tiano Brothers St., the street where his old residence once stood.

The text of the Borja monument is both moving and profound as it bares the personal creed of the man who, decades after his death is still thought of by many Kagay-anons as the best Mayor Cagayan ever had:

"Mayor Borja was one of those improbable figures in government, an honest and dedicated public servant. He was a man of integrity and purpose, but what endeared him to most Kagayanons was his philosophy of selfless service, which he once expressed in his own words:

"Life is a gift, and what a gift it is! I have learned that the more you give of yourself, the more you have the gift of hope; that he who forgets self and gives all that is entirely and devotedly to something or somebody; and he who lives for justice and truth without caring for the consequences, receives a thousand times more than he gives.

I have learned that the only immortality, the enduring and permanent things in this transient world, are truth, honor, decency and courage; and those who build their lives upon these intangibles of the spirit, build upon foundations that can never be shaken by any force on earth."

For sometimes now I cannot help but feel sad and appalled each time I walk through the parks in Divisoria and see our monuments that are in varying states of neglect and shabbiness. Pierre Nora (2001) wrote about what he called "sites of memory and that it is this memory that unites us as a people." He is referring to public memory. The monuments in Divisoria are sites of our public memory where there are reminders written in stone and marble that help to magnify the greatness of our heroes, to enforce our patriotic past and promote nationalism.

Ricalde)

Published in the Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro newspaper on November 25, 2010.

NO!, NOT this!..Mga Rodriquez don't ruin Balubal by turning it into an Industrial and Commercial zone. Ang maayo diha is converting most of it into a parkland. Plant more trees and don't waste ang ka TSADA sa Balubal Gorge. You CANNOT find beautiful Gorge like that so close to the city.

Industries should NOT be in uplands due to problems with waste chemical sipping into the upland soil. Gravity will take that waste/chemicals down below barangay Balubal.

Mga Rodriguez, this is a BAD IDEA!!!

The Great Cagayan de Oro fire of 1969

By Paulita R. Roa [1]

It is uncanny that March, being Fire Prevention Month, is usually the time when many big fires happen around the country.

We see or read about it almost daily in the papers or in TV news reports. Cagayan de Oro is no stranger to big fires. The last conflagration happened 40 years ago on July 12, 1969.

The fire started at early dawn in Diston Hardware, the present site of McDonald's in Divisoria.

Our house was two blocks away and we all woke up for someone was frantically shouting, "Sunog! Sunog!"

We rushed outside and saw a man jump from the second floor window of the burning building. The fire spread quickly to other wooden buildings in North Divisoria (now Tirso Neri St.).

We quickly changed to our street clothes and our stepmother instructed us that, as our helpers were busy packing and bringing down our things, we were to stand close to and guard our valuables placed near our front door.

I stood near our street amid the pandemonium and held close to me our big market basket that was full of eggs. Why I chose to save it instead of love letters, photos, and other treasured mementoes -- that I could not explain to this day!

I remember looking up and seeing the dark sky was covered with "aligato" or live embers. I thought this must be similar to the time of Sodom and Gomorrah when it rained fire and brimstone. It was an awesome and fearful sight.

The fire was contained only in North divisoria, thanks to the foresight and generosity of Don Tirso Neri, who as the Municipal Presidente or mayor of Cagayan, donated his land to the town in 1901 to serve as a fire breech or divider.

For in his time and centuries before that, Cagayan was frequently gutted down by big fires. This is the reason why the city only has one preserved Spanish colonial structure, which is the Sia ancestral house located in Velez and Hayes Sts.

The strip of land known as Divisoria was built by Mayor Justiniano R. Borja into a series of mini parks after the public market was moved to Cogon in 1958.

It helped prevent what could have been a bigger and more disastrous fire that could wipe out the entire poblacion.

In the 1969 fire, all the buildings along tirso Neri St. from the present site of the Philippine Airlines Office to Mercury Drugstore and Dynamic Pharmacy were all razed to the ground.

Only two concrete edifices-the Tamparong building and the Cagayan LCD construction supply and the wooden building owned by the De Lara family-were spared.

The fire spread as far as the Bank of the Philippine Islands building in Velez and Borja Sts. and down to Gomez and Burgos Sts. near the Cagayan river.

In our area, the firemen decided to bulldoze the burning house owned by the Bernas family to stop the fire from spreading. Because of this, many houses including ours were saved.

It was a miracle that no one died in this fire. But the biggest loss was the library of the late Mayor Borja. All his books, photos, documents and other memorabilia went up in smoke. Only the bronze plaque that was given to him by Xavier University when he was conferred with the degree of honoris causa in Public Administration survived.

The fire was under control around 9 a.m. We walked along Velez St. surveying the damage done by the fire. We saw charred woods, twisted steel, burned electric posts, and wires and many small craters in the asphalted street.

Someone commented this was what the town looked liked after it was bombed several times by American planes near the end of World War II. Many Red Cross volunteers were distributing food and drinks to the exhausted firemen who were still dousing small fires and clearing the debris at that time.

My father, who was in Cebu, immediately boarded the first available plane for home. But no plane could land in Lumbia airport because of the thick smoke that hovered over the city.

A few weeks later, my family and I had dinner in Casino, the city's legendary restaurant. The owner, Anastacio "Ating" Gabor sat with us. He was my father's cousin and close friend.

Casino was located in South Divisoria (now R.N Abejuela St.)-the section and beyond that was untouched by the fire. We had a quiet dinner for we kept looking at the surreal scene across us - those commercial blocks in North Divisoria that were razed to the ground had become one big open space.

Then, Tio Ating turned to Papa and said, "Ping, I believe that our city will be rebuilt soon and it will become much better than it was before the fire."

My father nodded in agreement and smiled. That was the first positive statement I heard after the big fire. And by God's grace, Cagayan de Oro -- like a phoenix -- rose from the ashes and, today, it is now one of the most prosperous cities in our country.

@bisayadako, Balubal is a big barangay by area... I don't think the Gorge is part of the proposed eco-zone....it's somewhere south of the barangay proper - the vast plateau. If it\s eco-zone, it should be PROPERLY DELINEATED.
Rumor is that it's a big industrial investment and the entire zone will become a food processing center. Rufus' new highway which will be parallel with Sayre Highway traverses the area.
But of course, stakeholders should ensure that wastes from these industries will be properly treated

Digitel unit sets sights on VisMin expansion
By Lenie Lectura, Business Mirror
Posted at 11/25/2010 2:34 AM | Updated as of 11/25/2010 2:34 AM
ABS-CBN.com

MANILA, Philippines - The wireless landline service of listed phone firm Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc. (Digitel) is setting its sights on expanding to Visayas and Mindanao (VisMin) to provide reliable and affordable unlimited landline service in the area.

Once completed, the VisMin transmission network will be linked to Digitel’s Luzon transmission facility thereby creating an extensive nationwide communication network.

Suntel, Digitel’s wireless landline brand, is currently present in Metro Manila and the whole Luzon.

Digitel legal head William Pamintuan said the launch of Suntel wireless landline service in VisMin is going to happen in the first quarter of 2011. “We are positive we could duplicate the success we have in Luzon to the provinces down south.” Pamintuan said. “We want those in the Visayas and Mindanao to experience the convenience of unlimited landline service that we have been providing our subscribers in Metro Manila, and Luzon.”

Suntel Wireless Landline will work anywhere there is Sun Cellular coverage. “We will be using Sun Cellular’s nearly 7,000 cell sites all over the country to provide wireless landline services. What we are working on closely though is establishing local interconnection with other telecom companies with presence in the Visayas and Mindanao to ensure seamless and practical communication services for our subscribers,” he added.

Local interconnection between two telecom firms allows a landline subscriber of one telco to make a call to a subscriber of another within the same province without having to pay long-distance rates.

Pamintuan said Digitel had already established an interconnection agreement with Globe Telecom in Cebu, and then would start the same process in Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and in General Santos City. Digitel is also currently negotiating with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. for interconnection in the said areas.

Suntel Wireless Landline was launched in Luzon in 2008 and Metro Manila in 2009. It offers subscribers wireless mobility within their specific areas or province at the affordable cost of a landline connection.

Since big space are already limited in city's sea-level area, investors are forced to put up their businesses in city's uptown such as Pueblo, Indahag, Agusan, and Alae for e.g. Effects of Global Warming too such as flood has forced them to do so. One big businessman from Manila is very interested to build a very high-end golf course in barangay, Bayanga after having an aerial inspection. He would only invest if the rest of the road going to the area will be paved. Hope more infrastructures going to the rest of the uptown will be built to expand the city. ^^

I believe LKK will be forced to do so just because of the 2 story pineapple replica. This time LLK will build a 7 story white water rafter's helmet replica at the top of the 33 story Gateway Tower Hotel so that the building will be 40 story high.

A tarp of the 33 Gateway Tower Hotel plus 7 story helmet replica will come out soon. And this time, the tarp won't disappear less than a week for us Tsadaboy to have a NBI type search operation or just like Gas Abilgas has done in his program in ABS-CBN . :D

This cafe's concept really excites me.

Speaking of a hospital, a proposed 50 bed capacity CdeO Medical Center will rise in Paseo next year. This tertiary hospital will have specialized units. The corp won't build a 120 bed capacity hospital immediately. But as the year goes on and the heath care demand inevitably increases, this is the time that the corp will build additional hospital beds until the target is attained . ^^

DAR turns over P 1.9M coco sugar processing facility in Misamis Oriental
Post Published: 25 November 2010
Author: BWM

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) turned over P1.9M coco sugar processing facility to Linabu Agrarian Multipurpose Cooperative (LAMPCO) in Linabu, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental recently.

The project is covered by the CLEEProgram and is funded by SPOTS Ph2 and is implemented by ARB Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Development Program (AREDP) of DAR-Misamis Oriental.

According to DAR Undersecretary for Support Services Jerry Pacturan, the project is DAR’s manifestation of continuing support to agrarian beneficiaries and praised the coop members for their hard work and patience in facing the challenges of running the coco sugar enterprise.

Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno congratulated the farmers and thanked Regional Director Felix Aguhob and PARO Zoraida Macadindang for a job well done and pledged P2M for the concreting of the access road from the provincial road to the processing facility.

Not to be outdone, Balingasag Mayor Alexis Quina also pledged a new office space for DAR at the Municipal Hall. The LGU of Balingasag also provided its equity thru a purchase of a 400-sq meter lot where the building now stands and some construction materials amounting to P70,000.

AREDP’s Deputy Director for Operations Gomer Tumbali said the package of DAR support services include the building, equipment, utensils, initial operating capital for the raw materials, labor for the production runs, capability building trainings , BFAD registration and provision of a transport vehicle.

Coco sugar is now considered a better alternative to cane sugar being organic with lower glycemic index and higher nutritive values. It has gained popularity among health conscious consumers including diabetics and this acclaim is now gaining grounds internationally. (DAR-Misamis Oriental)

Students volunteer to help DSWD clients
Post Published: 25 November 2010
Author: BWM

College students from Cagayan de Oro City have willingly committed to volunteer and help DSWD Clients after the former began to understand the various programs, projects, and services of the social welfare department.

Through a recent advocacy forum held last November 18-19, 2010 for the academe, the students were challenged to make use their time, talents, and skills in helping abandoned and maltreated children and women residing in centers and institutions of the DSWD.

Staff from DSWD has introduced to them its anti-poverty programs such as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, KALAHI-CIDSS, and SEA-K. A discussion was also made regarding the different centers and institutions facilitated by the DSWD housing abused women and children from across the Region.

According to Megan, a development communication student from Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, she found compassion over the young people at the DSWD’s Home for Girls which is a temporary shelter for female minors who are under very difficult circumstances.

A musical savvy, Megan and her music band has decided to make a small concert for the residents of the Home for Girls and to give some “Christmas gifts” for them. “We have also decided to give to the Home for Girls some of our proceeds from our concerts that we are going to do in the coming days,” Megan said.

Today, DSWD has been accepting volunteers through its Bayanihang Bayan Program. Interested individuals and organizations who want to volunteer may coordinate with the Institutional Development Unit of the DSWD-X. They can also call 858-8892 for more inquiries.###Charmaine P. That's funny "CHOCOLATE" Iponan River.....that would change to CRYSTAL CLEAR if you help stop the ILLEGAL Mining along the river upstream.

Asa na man ang bag-ong elected officials sa CDO ug Opol. STOP that ILLEGAL and UNREGULATED Mining upstream. Not only they are destroying the river upstream, they are also destroying downstream including ang bukana sa Iponan River.

In the last 4 years that I come to CDO, that river is always CHOCOLATE. Please FIX it.

Rep. Rodriguez is already anticipating the entry of ONE BIG INVESTMENT in Balubal...... aside from his plans to construct another highway from Balubal proper straight to Damilag..

But of course, stakeholders should ensure that wastes from these industries will be properly treated

this proposed eco-zone site is also being proposed as an alternate site for another big business ... long opposed by the church...

Mao ba ning Balubal sa stage 5 composing of 811 has. sa CDO Urban expansion Structure Plan?
Wala lang nakita sa mapa ang Balubal.

Is there really such thing as a lifestyle mall? Well, I am not really so sure about that. But one thing is certain for me. There's what we call a lifestyle center. And what is a lifestyle center? It's a mixed-use commercial development. It has gone beyond the traditional mall where people just go and shop. A lifestyle center offers amenities where consumers can enjoy other than just plain shopping. It is a place where one can find banks, upscale restaurants, bars, coffee shops, fitness gym, gambling places, spa, nail bar, beauty salons, etcetera. And lastly, it doesn't have the same limitations of traditional malls that opens 10AM and closes at 9PM. A lifestyle center is alive 24/7. I have experienced what it feels to be in a lifestyle center in Manila and Cebu. And I have been experiencing it too in Mindanao. Where else but in Limketkai Center. :)

Naunsa.

Mao gyod ni reyalidad sa Pinas or 3rd world country. Sa Manila nagta-asay ug mga condo pero sa gilid halapad nga mga squatters. A sad and true reality. :ohno:

Mao gyod ni reyalidad sa Pinas or 3rd world country. Sa Manila nagta-asay ug mga condo pero sa gilid halapad nga mga squatters. A sad and true reality. :ohno:

I remember our recruiter back in the middle east he said.....

Philippines is nice, nice building, nice shopping mall but too many poor...why yaki???

yaki that's in arabic meaning brother..

we just laugh and said...yah that's very true sir.......

We cannot get rid of those people living in a dilapidated houses...if napansin nyo kawawa talaga ang Pinas pag lapag pa lang sa Naia kitang-kita mo agad ang napakalawak ng mga bahay ......na marami talaga sa atin ang naghihirap.....kitang-kita mo sa taas pa lang....minsan iniisip natin nakakahiya, nahihiya tayo maraming squatters....Nop...all over the Philippines squatters is all over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao....

Only few know that this Maguindanao Masonic Temple is the first and the oldest Masonic lodge in Mindanao. City's archives noted that this lodge was built in 1909. ^^

does this Masonic thing related to the Illuminati?
or freemasons 2 cya?

Call Center Firm To Hold 3-day Job Fair In Cdeo (http://www.cagayandeoro.gov.ph/?page=news&id=1951)

by Ian A. Fuentes/city Information Office
Here a piece of good news to all job seekers in Cagayan de Oro City who want to land a job in the lucrative call center industry.

SYKES Asia, Incorporated, a pioneering and leading call center company in the country, will hold a three-day Job Fair here slated on Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the City Tourism Hall, according to City Public Service Office (PESO) manager Juvy Paza. The Manila-based company hopes to recruit at least 1,000 call center agents during the three-day Job Fair supported by the City Government of Cagayan de Oro through City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, Paza said. Paza urged interested applicants, who are at least 18 years old and completed two years in college, to bring pertinent documents such as their resume and transcript of records during the Job Fair. Enticing perks and benefits like relocation bonus and 30-day free hotel accommodation and meals await those who will successfully pass and qualify the recruitment process, she added. For early registration and further information, interested parties may call at telephone no. 8575057 local 307 or visit at the PESO office located at 3rd floor, City Hall, Cagayan de Oro City. (City Information Office)

Bettina and Mags will be transfering from the ground level to 2nd level of SM City CdeO... IMHO, this is a win-win move for both SM and the 2 tenants... Both boutiques have a good following... Their suki will go to them no matter where they are located... Now that they'll be at the 2nd level, mas mobibo na... Dayon, mas barato pud ila bayran para sa rental... IMHO, shops with a very good following should be placed on the vacant spaces of the 2nd level... Tuyo-on man gyud na pag-adto sa ila mga suki! :-)

To convert it into national road it means more funding to appropriate and it leads to widening and well maintained roads imo.

PROJECT WATCH: City Legislative/Admin Bldg. as of Nov. 26 (http://cagayandeorodev.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/project-watch-city-legislativeadmin-bldg-as-of-nov-26/)

Latest update of the City Legislative and Administration Building revealed aluminum claddings are now installed on the building’s exterior. This is a trend in building construction nowadays as a viable and cheaper alternative to paint.

As seen in the pictures, workers are seen doing various activities in the work area. The central part (just above the City Tourism Office) is more likely a bridge or hallway with a view of the city hall grounds and the river, if I’m not mistaken. I think they will install glass walls on this part.

Meanwhile, ramps and main entrances are now visible on the section near Burgos Street. More pictures below. Just click each image for larger view.

City officials, investors to inspect Glonwicks Highland Resort (http://cagayandeorodev.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/city-officials-investors-to-inspect-glonwicks-highland-resort/)

Cagayan de Oro City Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas is leading a team of investors and city officials in inspecting a resort with a dual zipline today at Barangay Baikingon.

Vice Mayor Acenas and representatives from the City Engineer’s Office and members of the City Tourism Office will check on the feasibility of Glonwicks Highland Resort in Baikingon, some 20 minutes from city proper.

http://cagayandeorodev.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/img_2830-copy.jpg?w=468&h=312

The said resort is operated by the Lacar family and owns the distinction of having the first dual zipline in the city with a length of 500 meters. The longest dual zipline is in nearby Dahilayan in Manolo Fortich. While riding the zip, one can have a view of Macajalar Bay, Iponan River, Mt. Mirayon in Talakag, SM City and Lumbia Airport. As shown in the billboard, they’re building a swimming pool too. Read my first post about Glonwicks HERE (http://cagayandeorodev.wordpress.com/2010/05/17/cdos-first-dual-zipline-now-open/) last May 17, 2010.

Meanwhile, in a related development, another zipline is also set to open in Cagayan de Oro specifically in Barangay Bayanga just south of Macahambus and Monigue Cave. Said undertaking is owned by Jatico Family. So we’ll wait on this new development.

The city is indeed the adventure capital….more tourists to come.

Ayala Land to inaugurate village clubhouse
Friday, 26 November 2010 00:00
Written by Gold Star Daily
Mindanao Goldstar Daily

PREMIER developer Ayala Land Inc. is set to inaugurate today the newest landmark in Alegria Hills, its village clubhouse.

Alegria Hills, Ayala Land Inc.'s first venture in Mindanao, is a 53-hectare high-end residential subdivision project. The location offers mountain resort living atop sloping highlands, affording a panoramic view of the city and the Macajalar Bay.

A mere ten minutes away from Cagayan de Oro's Limketkai Mall and major business district, Alegria Hills will allow enhanced lifestyle options for families while keeping their close affinity to the rich natural surroundings. The development will be complemented with quality features and amenities that are not yet found in any residential project in this part of the country.

The chapel in the grove was completed in March of 2009 which was marked with the celebration of a mass. The chapel has since become an ideal place for prayer and meditation in the midst of Alegria Hills' scenic environment. This year, Ayala Land unveils another masterpiece with the inauguration of an iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired clubhouse. The clubhouse is equipped with amenities for functions and gatherings as well as sports facilities for residents and guests to enjoy. Soon, these will be complemented with pocket parks and canyon trails to highlight the outdoors.

Masterplanned by Ayala Land, it shall offer a higher level of comfort, serenity and security that only an Ayala Land Premier community can provide to assure residents of quality, commitment and enduring value, a sure reward for their success. For inquiries please contact 856-3116 or visit the Ayala Land office at the 2nd floor, East Concourse, Lim Ket Lai Mall. *

Written by Gold Star Daily

ALL roads lead to the Macasandig Covered Court today as the Misamis Oriental Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (MOFCCCII) "Shed Blood-Save A Life" medical mission and bloodletting project gets underway.

"We have a medical mission for indigent and flood victim residents of depressed areas of Macasandig and simultaneously, a bloodletting project to help the Mindanao Blood Bank of the Philippine Red Cross replenish its inventory which has been depleted by the need for blood transfusions of dengue victims," said Robert Ching, MOFCCCII president.

In addition, Ching said MOFCCCII will also be conducting free ECG and bone density tests for senior citizens from its 250 member companies. Xavier Engage 2010 ushers in
Thursday, 25 November 2010 00:00
Written by Gold Star Daily

BLUE is the new Green.

Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan will mark its 77th year with a pledge to "nurture nature." Popularly known by its nickname Xavier Days, the XU Festival Days on December 1 to 4, 2010 will affirm the university's engagement in protecting and preserving the environment. An ensemble of environment-friendly activities has been prepared for Xavier Days.

One of which is the "Sikad Parade," an alternative to the traditional motorcade. Instead of using motor vehicles, the parade around downtown Divisoria on December 2 will use tricycles or trisikads emblazoned with messages advocating for an eco-friendly living.

According to Ivanell Subrabas, chair of Xavier Days 2010 themed Xavier Engage: Nurture Nature, this year's environmental motif is a response to pressing environmental concerns. Subrabas cited the recent incidents of flooding experienced not just by Cagayan de Oro but by other places in the country as a stentorian call to make our communities greener.

Xavier Engage: Nurture Nature will kick-start with the celebration of the Eucharist in the afternoon of December 1 proceeded by the launching of Belen, Light a Tree contest, and opening of art exhibits. A Festival Night, also on December 1, and a Cultural Night on December 2 will be staged to promote environmental conservancy.

The four-day affair will also feature the launching of the X75+ Coffee Table Book commemorating XU's Diamond Jubilee in 2008. Together with the launching, the University will host a Sponsors' Night, a fundraiser to establish a scholarship fund.

Beyond these activities, the public can look forward to usual Xavier Days favorites like the fireworks display; stalls of mouth-watering food and affordable miscellaneous items; Batong Bitoon, a showcase of local campus bands; variety shows; dance party; the XUHS alumni homecoming; and the Cine Magis walk-in movie which will show three films that have environmental undertones.
Just like in the past years, Xavier Days 2010 is open to all. *

Cagayan de Oro Hosts Info Session on “Doing Business in Free Trade Areas”
Post Published: 26 November 2010
Author: BWM

An information seminar on Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) will be held on December 2, 2010 at 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Pryce Plaza Hotel, Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.

The seminar will be conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with Philexport 10A and in cooperation with the Bureau of Customs (BoC), the Tariff Commission (TC), the Export Development Council (EDC), and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PCCI).

Called “Doing Business in Free Trade Areas”, this information seminar aims to increase nationwide awareness as well as foster appreciation for the benefits of FTAs. While the Philippines is already implementing a number of FTAs, it has been observed that businessmen have not been able to take full advantage of them. This information campaign is designed to address this gap.

The information session will cover discussions on market opportunities with focus on products with zero or reduced tariffs under existing free trade agreements as well as the procedures for their availment. The sessions will also feature businessmen who will share their experiences in having utilized free trade agreements to their advantage.

Target participants are exporters, importers, distributors, traders, customs brokers, freight forwarders, members of the academe and other government agencies.

For inquiries and reservation, please contact: Liza or Mila or Mike at telephone numbers 722139, 722276 and 710610 or email at lvm.alcantar@gmail.com or e.lasquites@gmail.com .

MELINDO WINS BY UD OVER TAMARA
By Dong Secuya
PhilBoxing.com

http://philboxing.com/news/pix/melindo-tamara.fn.01.300w.jpg

CEBU CITY -- Milan 'El ' Melindo displayed awesome boxing skills to dominate former world champion Carlos Tamara of Columbia to win by unanimous decision at the Waterfront Hotel here Saturday night. The judges' scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93 all for the Cagayan de Oro native Melindo. :applause:

Melindo (23-0-0, 7KO), clearly fighting way above his weight and who gave Tamara 3 inches in height advantage and a lot of body bulk, threw everything at Tamara including the kitchen sink but was unable to put away the Columbian who kept on coming until the last round. Tamara reinforced his reputation as a durable boxer who won over former world champion Brian Viloria by sheer stamina.

Melindo however was up to the task as he did not force the issue and was content to finish the fight ahead on every scorecards displaying, along the way, a finesse boxing talent.

Melindo is now looking forward to fight for a title when the opportunity comes.

Digitel to expand scope (http://www.itmatters.com.ph/inside.php?id=460&article_type=news)

GOKONGWEI-led Digital Telecommunications Philippines, Inc. (Digitel) said its wireless landline service Suntel is setting its sights on expanding to the Visayas and Mindanao early next year.
In a statement yesterday, the company said that once completed, the Visayas-Mindanao transmission network will be linked to Digitel’s Luzon transmission facility “to create an extensive nationwide communication network.”

The company did not disclose the specific locations for the expansion. Suntel currently operates in Metro Manila and Luzon.

William B. Pamintuan, Digitel spokesman, said in the same statement the company will launch the Suntel Wireless Landline service in the Visayas and Mindanao in the first quarter of 2011.

Mr. Pamintuan said the company had established an interconnection agreement with Globe Telecom, Inc. in Cebu and would start the same process in Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos City.

“Digitel is also currently negotiating with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. for interconnection in the said areas,” the firm said.

IMO the distance of the unfinished part going to the third bridge is approximately 600m.
