Used clothing vendors who are permitted to sell their products are, namely: Amira Omra, Misbak Adiong, Amin Sarip, Normida Radia, Aslia Ande, Pinky Moktor, Rohaida Sarip, Mary Grace Esling. There will also be variety shows, concerts, and other live presentations to perk up the Christmas celebration, oftentimes carried via live TV and radio broadcast at the Magsaysay Park by its lead media partner ABS-Cbn Regional Operations Group. Students from Xavier University will also showcase select products as part of their feasibility study exposure and business incubation. This is part of the School of Business and Management’s blended education program to assimilate junior and senior students to the real world of business. Moreover, the program is aligned with Xavier University’s integration into local community business development efforts particularly on social entrepreneurship undertakings. According to Mr. Markel Villaluna, the coordinator of this event and Vice President of the XU JMA ProMo Group, the first CDO Christmas Bazaar is a festive celebration designed to perk up the Christmas season in the heart of the city. The project site will be beautified and adorned with Christmas decorations and attractive lighting befitting the joyful occasion. All events are free for the benefit and entertainment of the city constituents, visitors and the general public. The bazaar will culminate with a Christmas raffle with numerous prizes like household appliances, housewares, rice, foodstuffs, cellular phones, novelty items, and Christmas giveaways from various sponsors. The Adventure Capital of the Philippines! :) boju2 December 5th, 2010, 03:09 PM Misamis Oriental Tourism BWM IN the town of Medina, one can head out to the Medina Springs, a very interesting dive spot also with rich marine life which is located just about 300 yards from the white beach, near the edge of the shallow coral reef. “The Paradise” as it is called, is about 90 to 110 feet deep with features like a canyon with a lot cracks and holes and a cavern that can be explored with underwater flashlights. “The Aquarium” meanwhile is another place to make that second dive with depth ranging from 20 to 70 feet. In these two spots- you’d be able to spot the underwater springs called alibuag which literally spew out very cold fresh water. The dramatic seascapes meanwhile, at the eastern tip of Gingoog Bay which is part of the town of Magsaysay is Punta Diwata. This divespot meanwhile has a stair step coralline slope with its ledges and walls all beautifully covered with sea fans, sponges, as well other marine outcroppings. Manta rays as well as the usual colorful and interesting Philippine fi shes also frequent the area. To wrap up the dive tour of Misamis Oriental, just out front of Mantangale is Manongul reef––aptly named as Manongul which is the word for coral gardens in the local dialect. Manongul is best for snorkeling and long scuba dives where you can spy blue spotted stingrays, lionfish, convict damsels, soft and hard corals, clown fi sh who all call Manongul home. Meanwhile, for those who just absolutely love waterfalls, Misamis Oriental never fails to disappoint. See the Libonlawit Falls 13 kilometers from Gingoog City centre which is composed of three falls actually- Tiklas Falls (120 feet high), Kilubag Falls which serves as its main attraction and the Bangbang Falls (70 feet high). There is also the small Aya-aya Falls in Lugait, the Kanapolan Falls in Naawan, Lubilan Falls also in Naawan, Sinabayan Falls and Mimboaya Falls in Subongcogon, Bakid-bakid Falls of Gingoog City, and the Sagpulon Springs and Falls in Jasaan. For all its beauty, Misamis Oriental’s main tourist attractions exists in its many national parks with natural limestone formations, ridges, gorges and canyons like the Initao National Park about 51 kilometers west of Cagayan de Oro which also includes a marine ecosystem which is home to various colorful fi shes and corals as well as Splitnose bat cave in its two closed caves and one open cave which opens towards the sea. There is also the Lingonlingon Plateau Park in Balingasag which is excellent for bird watching and mountain climbing and the Sicolon Cave also called Cueva con Agua in Laguindingan (28 kilometers west of Cagayan de Oro); the Magallanes Cave in Jasaan which is still largely unexplored; the Huluga Caves 8 kilometers away from the St. Augustine Church on the east bank of the Cagayan River. Th is cave was especially important because this cave also serves as a burial site. Xavier University researchers found a female skull dated back around 350 AD by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the United States. Th e Huluga open site was an ancient settlement site in the area and according to unverifi ed reports; a huge part of this archaeological area was destroyed in 2003 by the City Hall and today remains to be neglected and exposed to quarrying. Another popular nature destination is the Macahambus Cave and Gorge located 14 kilometers southeast of Cagayan de Oro in Lumbia and the newly developed Lasang Secret Adventure Eco-tourist Park, which was developed as a learning center for scientifi c research and biodiversity and consists of 100-meter boardwalk which takes one deeper into a forest that contains century old giant Talisay Gubat trees which are endemic to the region. Also, another famous landmark in Cagayan de Oro is the Gardens of Malasag Eco-tourism Village located in Sitio Malasag in Cugman about 20 minutes away from the city centre. It has a botanical garden showcasing the diff erent tribal cultures of Mindanao. Further away from the Malasag gardens buried in its canopy of lush and verdant foliage. Taegon December 5th, 2010, 03:23 PM Elders to get P500 monthly subsidy Friday, December 3, 2010 STARTING January 2011, senior citizens will receive a monthly subsidy of P500 under the "Katas ng VAT para kay lolo at lola program" proposed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Aroyo. Councilor Dante Pajo, chairperson of the City Council Committee on Senior Citizens, said under the program, only those senior citizens aged 80 years old and above will be given the monthly stipend, based on the instructions from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). There are around 7,000 senior citizens currently residing in Cagayan de Oro. Pajo said the DSWD only allotted P4.5 million for Cagayan de Oro that is why they are very strict on the age bracket. "The City Social welfare and Development (CSWD) in cooperation with the Office of the Senior Citizens Association (OSCA) will scan through the 7,000 elders listed who are 80 years old and above since some of them have already passed away," he said. Meanwhile, the City Government had already released the one-time subsidy for senior citizens. Pajo said they will ensure that all senior citizens will be given their subsidy before the end of the year. (NJM) Published in the Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro newspaper on December 03, 2010. Taegon December 5th, 2010, 03:25 PM Fire station's conversion into a district unit pushed Friday, December 3, 2010 THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) proposed to convert the Cagayan de Oro City Central Fire Station in Cogon into a district unit and become the regular fire station of its eight substations. In a letter to the City Council, Sr. Supt. Florencio P. Tutor, BFP in Northern Mindanao director, said the BFP has limited manpower that hinders it from performing its mandated duties well. Tutor said the Central Fire Station in Cogon is the sole entity that conducts regular fire safety inspections to all business establishments in the city. He said the Central Fire Station's existing eight sub-stations are not authorized to conduct fire safety inspections as these only do fire control and emergency rescue operations. "With the Central Fire Station's conversion into a district unit, the eight sub-stations would then be converted into a regular fire station and can conduct vital functions such as fire safety inspection," Tutor said. He said in order to cater to the needs of the city's 80 barangays, a clustering of area of jurisdiction (AOR) will be implemented, such that the existing eight fire substations, as soon as they will be transformed into regular fire stations, would provide services as well to other barangays. Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, chairperson of the City Council Committee on Police, Fire and Public Safety, said they are supporting the proposal in the interest of an efficient and effective public safety services. "Due to territorial expanse of the city, the fire protection services seemingly became inadequate," Nacaya said, citing the recent fire incident at the Puerto Public Market that killed eight people. He said the incident should not have happened had the building was properly inspected. He said the present set-up of the city's fire station instinctively created inevitable restrictions with response to fire incidents, fire prevention activities and other related programs. In 2009, Nacaya said only 4,374 out of the existing 16,000 establishments were inspected by the city's central fire station. Nacaya said the City Council had already passed its recommendation to the BFP Central Office in Manila for review. (NJM) Published in the Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro newspaper on December 03, 2010. Construction of the said campus just beside Vista Verde Village is almost finished. The 3-storey building will complement the Macasandig Campus which has become too crowded and cramped over the last few years. To maintain the privacy and exclusivity of adjacent subdivision, another entrance was opened along Masterson Avenue as shown in the photos below. Forget about the old and boring troll...^^ Misamis Oriental gets award for upgraded hospitals Monday, December 6, 2010 MISAMIS Oriental’s innovation of its district hospitals has been recognized by the Galing Pook Foundation as an outstanding local governance program in 2010. The Award for Continuing Excellence or ACE Award is conferred to a Local Government Unit (LGU), which has sustained and demonstrated significant achievement along the various Galing Pook-awarded programs. The ACE Award requires that the awarded programs are sustained and improved and that a culture of excellence is manifested in the locality. Governor Oscar Moreno was ecstatic that Misamis Oriental was one of the five provinces in Mindanao to receive the most coveted awards for sustaining a “culture of governance and excellence.” “This is unprecedented for Misamis Oriental, the nomination itself is already an honor knowing that we have been recognized,” Moreno said. Capitol in recent years has embarked on an upgrading of the province’s seven district hospitals in Gingoog City, Magsaysay, Talisayan, Balingasag, Claveria, Initao and Manticao towns. Aside from upgrading, the Provincial Government also poured in over millions of pesos for the improvement of its medical services, equipment and medicine, the governor said. The Galing Pook Awards was launched in 1993 as a pioneering program that searches and recognizes innovative practices by the local government units. Finalists with outstanding initiatives are carefully selected and winners are recognized in a very prestigious awards ceremony. The award is conferred by the President of the Philippines. The awardees of the Galing Pook are chosen from a national search of local governance programs, evaluated through a multilevel rigorous screening process based on positive results and impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, transferability and sustainability and efficiency of programs service delivery. In a statement, MPTC chairman Manuel Pangilinan said the company wants to increase its public float next year to finance new road projects. Metro Pacific Tollways is undergoing studies for an expansion outside Luzon and discuss projects with local government units, Mr. Pangilinan said. “The prime candidates would be major cities like Cebu in the Visayas and Davao or Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao,” he said. Company data showed, Metro Pacific Tollways, which operates the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx), posted a 22% surge in profits to P1.09 billion in the nine months that ended in September, due to a 6% growth in average daily vehicle entries to 158,045. The company got a 25-year contract to operate the SCTEx from the state-led Bases Conversion and Development Authority last month. This made the firm the country’s largest tollway operator. The firm accounted for 23% of the profits of parent Metro Pacific Investments Corp., which is also into power distribution, water and hospitals. The announcement came after the Philippine Stock Exchange started implementing the 10% minimum public ownership rule on Nov. 30. “If we can buy into a new tollway or if the [road project connecting the North and South Luzon tollways] were to take off starting next year in terms of construction, we are open to increasing the public float,” Pangilinan said. The illiquid tollway firm had a 0.2% public float as of Friday. Shares were last traded on Nov. 11 at P7.82 apiece. “We can make it a public company at a certain point,” Mr. Pangilinan said. “What I want to happen is that for any fund-raising, there is a new investment,” he added. Late in October, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the reinstatement of the 10% minimum public ownership rule as a requirement for continued listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange. The rule, which was revoked in 2005, gives companies a 12-month grace period before the imposition of penalties or a delisting from the bourse. An analyst said the firm is already looking at specific infrastructure projects. “Most likely, the company already has projects where it can allot fresh funds,” Paul D. Balaoing, analyst at PCCI Securities, Inc., said in a phone interview yesterday. “It is safe to say that it is still a good timing to sell shares given normalized economic levels,” Mr. Balaoing added. Metro Pacific Tollways will spend P25 billion for three big-ticket road projects — the four-lane, 2.42-kilometer (km.) Segment 9 stretch that will connect NLEx to MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela City; the two-lane, 5.65-km. Segment 10 elevated road from MacArthur Highway to Radial Road R-10; and the 13.2-km. connector road that will link the NLEx at C-3 Road to the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 1 on South Luzon Expressway. Metro Pacific Investments is the Philippine unit of Hong Kong’s First Pacific Co. Ltd., which partly owns the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT). dark_knight_detectve December 6th, 2010, 01:02 PM it looks like ABC 5 will be invading cdeo next year. dark_knight_detectve December 6th, 2010, 01:10 PM this is similar to the above article Huluga open site: an ancient settlement site (http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/2010/12/huluga-open-site-an-ancient-settlement-site.html) http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/makahambus-cabe.jpg * Another famous landmark in Cagayan de Oro is the Gardens of Malasag Eco-tourism Village located in Sitio Malasag in Cugman about 20 minutes away from the city centre. IN the town of Medina, one can head out to the Medina Springs, a very interesting dive spot also with rich marine life which is located just about 300 yards from the white beach, near the edge of the shallow coral reef. Manta rays as well as the usual colorful and interesting Philippine fishes also frequent the area. To wrap up the dive tour of Misamis Oriental, just out front of Mantangale is Manongul reef––aptly named as Manongul which is the word for coral gardens in the local dialect. Manongul is best for snorkeling and long scuba dives where you can spy blue spotted stingrays, lionfish, convict damsels, soft and hard corals, clown fish who all call Manongul home. Meanwhile, for those who just absolutely love waterfalls, Misamis Oriental never fails to disappoint. See the Libon-lawit Falls 13 kilometers from Gingoog City centre which is composed of three falls actually- Tiklas Falls (120 feet high), Kilubag Falls which serves as its main attraction and the Bangbang Falls (70 feet high). For all its beauty, Misamis Oriental’s main tourist attractions exists in its many national parks with natural limestone formations, ridges, gorges and canyons like the Initao National Park about 51 kilometers west of Cagayan de Oro which also includes a marine ecosystem which is home to various colorful fishes and corals as well as Splitnose bat cave in its two closed caves and one open cave which opens towards the sea. There is also the Lingon-lingon Plateau Park in Balingasag which is excellent for bird watching and mountain climbing and the Sicolon Cave also called Cueva con Agua in Laguindingan (28 kilometers west of Cagayan de Oro); the Magallanes Cave in Jasaan which is still largely unexplored; the Huluga Caves 8 kilometers away from the St. Augustine Church on the east bank of the Cagayan River. This cave was especially important because this cave also serves as a burial site. Xavier University researchers found a female skull dated back around 350 AD by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the United States. The Huluga open site was an ancient settlement site in the area and according to unverified reports; a huge part of this archaeological area was destroyed in 2003 by the City Hall and today remains to be neglected and exposed to quarrying. Another popular nature destination is the Macahambus Cave and Gorge located 14 kilometers southeast of Cagayan de Oro in Lumbia and the newly developed Lasang Secret Adventure Eco-tourist Park, which was developed as a learning center for scientific research and biodiversity and consists of 100-meter boardwalk which takes one deeper into a forest that contains century old giant Talisay Gubat trees which are endemic to the region. Also, another famous landmark in Cagayan de Oro is the Gardens of Malasag Eco-tourism Village located in Sitio Malasag in Cugman about 20 minutes away from the city centre. It has a botanical garden showcasing the different tribal cultures of Mindanao. Further away from the Malasag gardens is the gorgeous and breathtaking Mapawa Nature Park, one of the successful stories of how people, livelihood, environment and tourism work well together. We were taken on a hay ride around the sprawling properties which include heavily forested mountains, with waterfalls and rivers buried in its canopy of lush and verdant foliage. The nature park offers several sports attractions such as ziplines, rappelling down waterfalls, scenic hikes, as well as of course the most famous Cagayan de Oro sport of white water rafting- a highlight for any traveler to Misamis Oriental. (Mapawa Nature Park booking office call-+638822725265 or 09081285454). For beaches, check out Bubotan Beach in Initao, and the stretch of beige colored sandy beaches off Opol. Every August 26th, Cagayan de Oro celebrates the Kagay-an Festival which features street-dancing competitions and trade fairs, as well as the Hudayaka Festival which is likened to the Sinulog Festival of Cebu as well as the Kadayawan Festival of Davao City. dark_knight_detectve December 6th, 2010, 01:18 PM PROJECT WATCH: Uptown Condotel nears topping off Posted on December 6, 2010 by damarre cagayandeorodev.wordpress.com http://cagayandeorodev.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/img_6716.jpg?w=468&h=351 Work on the Uptown Condotel is now on the 3rd level of the condo units. It was gathered from company officials that this will fund the company’s pipelined retail portfolio expansion and the construction of additional depots in Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro. The company said it will concentrate shoring up its handling facilities in Visayas and Mindanao; while Luzon may yet be at standstill because its Calaca depot’s capacity at 50 million liters can already be classified “immense” and will be enough to supply its expanding market in Luzon. As far as the targeted number of stations in Luzon is concerned, the company has not given any specific number but it indicated that expansions will be done in various parts of the country. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the oil firm said this (capex) will be allotted for the “expansion of the company’s operations such as but not limited to retail network and depot facilities as well as supply operations.” It added that “in support (of) the planned expansion, the Company shall study, pursue and undertake fund raising activities.” The cash infusion strategies it has been eyeing include “looking for strategic partners who believe in the Company’s operations and objectives, issuance of additional shares or equity to interested and potential investors.” No details were given yet though on which entities are being eyed as partners or the timeframe on when it shall undertake fund-raising activities, such as the additional shares issuance. “In pursuit of the planned expansion next year, proper disclosures shall be made at the appropriate time,” the company just added. Top officials of ABAP headed by President Ricky Vargas and Secretary General Patrick Gregorio, together with Executive Director Ed Picson were in town for the opening ceremonies with Governor Oscar S. Moreno. The Training center is the first in the country after the boxing association opened one at the Rizal memorial Complex in Manila. “We are encouraged by the performance of our boxers in the recent Asian Games in China were we won several models including 1 Gold,” Vargas said. “Our plan was just to expose our boxers in an international competition and we did not expect them to win any medals but in the end they come home with honors,” he added. The training center has presently 50 trainees with 5 of them women. According to Governor Moreno the role of the local level is to recruit and train in the grass roots while the responsibility of the national organization is to expose them in international tournaments. Picson added that when the trainees are ready they will face the trainees in Manila and then the national trainees in Baguio to test their skills. “If we find their performance good then we will include them in the national pool and expose them to national and international tournaments,” he said. The ABAP is presently preparing for two qualifying tournaments before the next Olympics. “We are now looking at the younger guys and the new faces with their good showing in the Asian games,” Vargas said. Boxing has been considered by most sports analysts as the only hope for our first Olympic Gold Medal which has remained elusive over the years. article from the Mindanao Current dark_knight_detectve December 7th, 2010, 12:40 PM guys, i dont know if naa na naka notice...SM Supermarket is now selling Gardenia Bread. "There are so few locators outside Metro Manila because there's no infrastructure, locators are not convinced labor is there," said Leechiu. "But more roads means more commerce. The labor pool could get around much quicker. With more flights, it's easier to go to the provinces," he added. The government has initially listed 10 projects under the Public-Private partnership or PPP scheme, 3 of which are expected to start construction by 2011. The projects include the extension of railway transits in Metro Manila; and new airports and terminals in Bohol, Pampanga, Laguindingan in Cagayan de Oro, Puerto Princesa and Daraga in Albay province. Rep. Jose Benjamin Benaldo (first district) said he would provide the money under the Congressional Budget Allocated Fund (CBAF), which would be solely intended for education. Benaldo said he had already requested the said amount in Congress, being the assistant majority floor leader. "Education is among my priorities during my term, as what I promised during the campaign," he said. Benaldo said the amount would be used to provide more classrooms, textbooks and computers for the public schools in the city's first district. He said he is confident that the P50 million he requested in Congress would be released. "As of this time, I have no funds since the budget for 2010 has already been prioritized to other projects by Rolando Uy, the former congressman of the first district," Benaldo said. He said as soon as his CBAF would be finalized, more projects will be allocated for the city. Part of the assistance, Benaldo said, is the distribution of hygiene kits to elementary pupils to put more emphasis on sanitation as part of their learning in school. Benaldo graced Monday's Teachers' Day celebration at the Atrium of Limketkai Center where he gave away Cherry Mobile phones, microwave ovens and a refrigerator as door prizes for the teachers. Mayor Vicente Emano also lauds the Aquino administration for its decision to implement the P66.5-billion MRS project. In a press statement, the mayor said like the Laguindingan International terminal, the proposed project will greatly boost the development of Mindanao. “Usa gayod kini sa akong gihingusgan nga mga proyekto, uban sa Laguindingan International Airport” (This project is one that I strongly pushed like the Laguindingan International Airport), he said. He added: “Dako gayod kining tabang sa pag-ugmad sa pulo sa Mindanao,” (This is a big help to push Mindanao). Emano also said the proposed railway system would be implemented in four phases, the first will be built from Laguindingan to Cagayan de Oro; the second, from Laguindingan to Iligan City; third, from the city to the Phivedec area in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental; and the fourth phase from Iligan City to Linamon, Lanao del Norte. The MRS is one of the three priorities that were pushed by the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) in Mindanao. Eman said that there were no other better projects for Mindanao that would contribute to a total development except the MRS, the project that would benefit all people in Mindanao for boosting the island's economy. According to the initial strategic railway development plan for Mindanao, the project aims to connect urban centers and provincial capitals in Mindanao such as, Butuan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Marawi, Cotabato, and Davao cities. It was gathered that the construction of the Mindanao railway project is scheduled to start in 2011 with the initial phase connecting this city and the new airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental. The railway project is envisioned to connect the rural and urban centers in Mindanao and is expected to boost commercial and industrial progress along the rail routes, including far-flung areas. The construction of the railway system in Mindanao is expected to address the needs of long-distance passengers, as well as the cargo and commercial requirements in the area. “This is really a big help to our economy and a big boost to our investors, both foreign and domestic,” said Emano. Taegon December 7th, 2010, 02:55 PM Revisiting the wonders of Misamis Oriental Post Published: 01 December 2010 Author: BWM (online) http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/agutayan.jpg Agutan Reef in Jasaan First part MISAMIS Oriental is one of the five provinces of Region 10, otherwise known as Northern Mindanao with Cagayan de Oro both serving as the capital of the province as well as the regional capital. Misamis got its name from the word “misa,” a Spanish term for the Eucharistic Mass. It was said that during the early days of Christianity in the Philippines, the word “misa” was shouted by converts every time priests traveled around the province. Over time, the Spanish missionaries started calling the province as Misamis. As there are two Misamis provinces, the other one is Misamis Occidental (Western Misamis) which has Oroquieta City as its capital. Other stories say that the word “Misamis” came from “Kuyamis,” a variety of sweet coconut which was also the staple food of the earliest known Negrito settlers in the area. The word Kuyamis was corrupted into Misamis when the Spanish conquerors arrived. While adventure tourism in Cagayan de Oro is promoted heavily in the tourism circles, there are other things to see and do in Misamis Oriental. Such as the ancestral houses of Vega Ancestral Home in Balingasag and the Lagbas Ancestral Home in Sugbongcogon. Like in many parts of the Philippines, the province has a lot of beautiful dive sites which are rarely visited by a lot of tourists because of the stigma that the name of Mindanao evokes. This is very undeserving, as the island of Mindanao has a lot of spectacular sights to see, enough to overwhelm any world traveler––and can put other countries in the Asia Pacific region to utter shame. Take the Agutayan Reef in Jasaan, also called the White Island (this is different from the White Island in Camiguin) – it is a little island teeming with a wide expanse of coral reef with a drop-off starting at 50 feet all the way down to 150 feet with heaps of cracks and crevices along the wall. Pelagic fishes such as the barracuda, eagle rays, surgeon fish, tuna, and sharks are often seen here. A shoal of approximately 3 hectares in size with the shallowest depth at 20 feet below the surface defines Constancia Reef. The reef is teeming with colorful tropical fish, pelagic and territorial fish, sponges and sea fans. Sipaka Point is known for its strong current and is only advised for more experienced divers. This natural current feeds the marine ecosystem which resulted in a gorgeous underwater garden where one can find huge sea fans, hard and soft corals, basket sponges, and feather stars which coexist with snappers, stingrays, groupers and numerous colorful fish––which is perfect for underwater photography, The Talisayan shoal meanwhile fronts the town of Talisayan. It takes about 10 minutes from the Mantangale Alibuag Beach Resort. This tiny shoal is covered with a very good coral growth, with heaps of little colorful fish, shells and other plants and animals such as turtles as well as other pelagic fishes. For wreck divers, one must not miss the Sta. Ines wreck at the sandy and steep slope, this old World War Two pontoon wreck starts at depths of 30 feet to about 150 feet. This wreck is now covered with black corals, fan corals, and other marine growth and serves as abode to jacks, sweetlips, red snappers, surgeon fish, bat fish and Lapu-lapu. Dr. Janith C. Aves, NSO-Northern Mindanao statistician, said in a phone interview that the 10th regional office got the final rating of 76.4 percent against closest rival NSO Region IV-B which got 74.0 percent. Aves said the award came based on the regional programs, on the conduct of surveys and output reportage to the central office and its partnership and linkages with line agencies and barangay governments. She said the performance rankings were made for the provincial and regional levels of the NSO. The NSO Misamis Oriental under provincial statistics officer Malou B. Igdon has ranked 9th and 3rd in Partnership and Linkages while NSO's Bukidnon provincial office, headed by Eddie Nasul, ranked 11th and 3rd in Statistical Operation. Meanwhile, NSO-Camiguin under Norma Quilala ranked 4th in Civil Registration while NSO Lanao del Norte ranked 6th in Information Dissemination. The Field Awards is based on the categories of operation in the fields of Statistical, Civil Registration, Information Dissemination, Partnership and Linkages and General Administration. This phenomenon would later be repeated decades later by thousands more in Medjugorje, Bosnia. All these are related to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Little is known of this occurrence in Cagayan de Oro. The late Dr. Andres Abejo, once the secretary of Archbishop James Hayes, SJ, founder of Ateneo de Cagayan and Lourdes College, authored a book, “Close To The Sun” published in 1981. The title of the book has nothing to do with Miracles of the Sun. The book’s title was taken from Archbishop Hayes favorite line in the poem of Alfred Lord Tennyson, The Eagle. The book is mostly about the late Archbishop Hayes and the St. Augustine Catherdral. Abejo wrote on page 169: “The reader here may share with a private experience of Archbishop Hayes known by only a few. “His Holiness Pope Pius XII, who had appointed the first bishop of Cagayan, announced that the proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of Our Lady would be defined on Nov 1, 1950, Feast of All Saints. In preparation for this, Bishop Hayes urged all the parishes and people of the diocese to hold a novena from Oct. 23 to Nov. 1. “ On Oct 30, 1950, the papal note says that at 4 p.m., during his “habitual walk (of the Pope) in the Vatican Gardens, reading and studying, “ having arrived to the statue Of Our Lady of Lourdes, “toward the top of the hill […] I was awestruck by a phenomenon that before now I had never seen… The sun, which was still quite high, looked like a pale, opaque sphere, entirely surrounded by a luminous circle, without the slightest bother. There was a very light little cloud in front of it.” On the other side of the globe, in Cagayan de Oro, its first bishop appointed by Pope Pius XII wrote. “But on the First Vespers of All Saints – the eve of the day when our Holy Father would proclaim the Dogma of the Assumption of our Lady – about 5:00 P.M., as the people were beginning the last Holy Hour of the Novena in the Cathedral, one of my lay assistants came running to me while I was saying the Rosary on the rear porch of my house. He asked me to look at the sun as it was dancing! I went with him to the west porch where we could see the sun sinking behind the hills. Sure enough, and my eyes did not deceive me, I saw the sun dancing, that is, moving from left to right or right to left – all you could see was motion and color – a frightening spectacle – the sun with a cloud in front of it which seemed to change from green to red to blue to grey, with flashes of white as the brilliant sun seemed to escape from behind this colored cloud. Though a bit skeptical, I had to admit that I DID see this strange phenomenon.” Bishop Hayes did not call it a miracle. Pope Pius XII did not call it a miracle either. Both wrote that it was a phenomenon. Bishop Hayes, continued, “So much for the Vespers of the Feast. The next day, Feast of All Saints, I offered Mass in the Cathedral and sang the Te Deum in Thanksgiving to God for the Holy Year and the definition of the Dogma of the Assumption. When I went to the porch of my house about 7 A.M. just before breakfast, I looked again at the sun and behold, I found it with a cloud of different changing colors covering it, but always dancing. At 4 P.M. (Philippine time) in the afternoon of All Saints (the time when our Holy Father was to make the Proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of our Lady in Rome) I again observed this unusual phenomenon, and it continued until the sun sank behind the hills to the west of my house, as on the preceding day. “On all Souls Day, after my Holy Masses, when I went to observe the sun, I found that all was normal; I could see nothing but a large brilliant disk of light, without any colored cloud or any movement. “Some priests and sisters and lay persons observed this strange phenomenon on the vespers and on the Feast of All Saints and the same people declared that they saw nothing strange or unusual on the Feast of All Souls. “Such was the very unusual occurrence observed here in the City of Cagayan de Oro on the Feast of All Saints – the day of the Proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of our Lady. While we should be cautious, though not necessarily skeptical, we have to admit that we saw a very exceptional and strange phenomenon take place here of the Feast of All Saints. We pass no judgment but we like to believe that even Nature itself rejoiced when our Holy Father declared as a Dogma of our Faith that our Lady was taken up to Heaven, body and soul, to reign as Queen of Angels and Saints. (Signed) JAMES T.G. HAYES, S.J. Bishop of Cagayan” Was there communication between Bishop Hayes and Pope Pius XII about their similar experience? Managbanag Wednesday, December 8, 2010 CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano praised the Aquino administration for its decision to continue the P66.5 billion Mindanao Railway System as one of its priority projects for 2011. Emano said he really lobbied for this project, including the Laguindingan International Airport. "Like the Laguindingan airport, the proposed railway project will greatly boost the development of Mindanao. It is expected to be finished sooner but not in time for the Airport, which is about to be finished," Emano said in a statement. He said the railway project would be a big help to Mindanaoans as this aims to provide hassle-free and lesser travel time, especially to businessmen. The feasibility studies for the Mindanao Railway project started in 2003 while the civil works has already started. The P66.5-billion Mindanao Railway project is expected to cut travel time within different cities in Mindanao by at least 50 percent. Emano said the proposed railway station will be implemented in four phases that would be convenient for every traveler. The first phase will be from Laguindingan to Cagayan de Oro while the second would be from Laguindingan to Iligan City and the third from Cagayan de Oro to Phividec area in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. Meanwhile, the fourth phase would be from Iligan City to Linamon in Lanao del Norte, which hopes to cut the present 90-minute bus travel time from Cagayan de Oro to Iligan to just about 15 to 20 minutes. The railway is expected to link urban centers in Mindanao such as Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Marawi, Cotabato and Davao. Energy Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras told reporters the department is awaiting terms of reference for the study from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). "We're going to start the safety standard study for nuclear energy [next year]. The DoE will be the lead agency for this, but we will be working with other agencies and with the ASEAN," he said. He added the department will hire foreign consultants for the study and has been provided P100 million for this thrust under its proposed budget for next year. The proposed 2011 national budget, now being discussed in a bicameral conference committee, is expected to be signed into law before yearend. The study forms part of the Philippines' implementation of the ASEAN agreement to provide safety standards for nuclear energy. The Philippines last July endorsed the ASEAN's Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-Sector Network. The network is the body that will guide ASEAN in cooperation on civilian use of nuclear energy. Under that framework, each ASEAN member nation will undertake its respective nuclear energy safety study. The DoE had earlier said it has been given the mandate to study the possibility of the country developing its nuclear power generation capability. Observers, however, have said that the country needs substantial investment in preparations for this energy option, since it still has to develop a sufficient number of experts with advanced studies in this field. "Nuclear is shifting to smaller, package-sized facilities. You're really looking at 10 years down the line. It's going to take a while. We're not saying we're going there; we're saying we need to understand the new technology," said Almendras. (PIA) [top] Bamboo88 December 8th, 2010, 02:22 PM OT: Kita mo ganiha sa TV Patrol WOrld? Initial franchise fees, investment and net worth requirements however are not disclosed due certain variables. I’ve summed up the franchise process below for any interested party. You have to submit contact and business info and in-depth background info and initial telephone contact with them to discuss your interests. You have to check too if your territory is available to set up franchise. Click here to check. Once qualified, you have to complete all qualifications and requirement. After that, there would be a home office discovery day. Then you will seal the deal and all legal aspects. It’s time to set up your site, supplies, hiring and trainings staffs. Then grand opening day! Visit the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s website to learn more about your franchise plans. 5.Mocha Blends Franchise http://www.freewebs.com/ibarramaic/FWThumbnails/mocha%20blends.JPG Mocha Blends was one of the pioneers in the Philippine café industry. Making the Philippines its home, it set up a roasting coffee house in 2003. MB’s coffee shop business captured the hearts of many by serving their coffee as Mocha’s choice beans for all its espresso-based coffee. They have numerous coffee shops in the Philippines and just started their branch overseas by opening a coffee shop in Indonesia. Mocha Blends is on continual expansion and aiming its mission. It’s very affordable to franchise Mocha Blends because it’s not yet known worldwide. But it’s already very much patronized here in the Philippines and in Indonesia. Mocha Blends offers three types of franchise: Mocha Blends Pavillion, a full store and a kiosk type. Below are the franchise fees and requirements to franchise Mocha Blends. Initial franchise fees are: P 350,000 (Espresso Bar) P 700,000 (Kiosk) P 750,000 (Full Store) Franchise term is up to 5 years renewable. Royalty is 5% of gross sales. Estimated franchise investments are: P 2M (Espresso Bar) P 3M (Kiosk) P 5M (Full Store) Franchise package includes the right to its name, proprietary marks, site selection approval, ongoing support and training of staffs, operational manual and opening assistance. 6. Figaro Coffee Franchise http://img.skitch.com/20091231-cb9c3itmk34mny8xxnckjayc5t.jpg Franchsing Figaro coffee shop interests me, too. This coffee house is one of my top five. Their tempting concoctions of coffee are a heartwarming experience. I freaking love their cappuccino, Café Au Lait and of course their Figaro frosts that could fade a tiring day away. I was surprised to know that Figaro sources its coffee locally to help the livelihood of coffee farmers in the country. How patriotic! The pre-qualifications and requirements to franchise Figaro Coffee shop includes your desire, passion and enthusiastic attitude of loving the business, commitment of time and resources to Figaro system, compliance of its franchise rules and standards, and a minimum franchise investment of 5 to 8 million pesos, suitable to your café site and location. The complete franchise application process is discussed to their official website. TONZI December 10th, 2010, 03:35 AM sa tinuod lang, ang motiyabaw ani ang RURAL man gyud. Whether or not Php 73.00 ang rate, they will find ways on how to stop this project from materializing. This project will surely benefit Mindanaoans. Diesel locomotives man ni siya so, dili kaayo dako ang operational expenses unlike sa LRT og MRT nga maosab ang fare kung mosaka ang kuryente. And aside from that, this will alleviate the excessive overloading of cargoes among truckers which is the main cause why our highways easily crack. Imagine if we could get rid of those heavy cargoes from the highway. Dako dako gyud ang ma-save and aside from that mas paspas ang commerce kay dali ra moabot ang goods. This is more practical than building tollways. I think this PHP 73.00 rate does not yet include the manpower and other resource expenditures. Bale, murag cost lang ni sa pag-build. This is built in phases man pud. Siguro during the first phase, we do not incur yet the payment for the whole Php 66-billion. IMO, if the first phase would cost P 1-b, then, the first phase will only need to think for the rate of that amount. And the next phase, so on and so fort, will then incur their own. Sa ako lang pud ni nga opinion. To have this kind of project is an indication that Mindanao is starting to get its share of progress. We need it coz we are the food basket. Remember, majority of Filipinos were not born with a silver plater and we are talking here mass transportation. mao gani ni ingon ko at least 3x is ideal nga fare....plus the income of cargo/freight....cargo/freight will help better the industry production across CIC. bisayadako December 10th, 2010, 06:10 AM United Church of Christ in the Philippines http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/24.png bai, nice shot...unsa imo setting ani? bisayadako December 10th, 2010, 06:20 AM article from The Best Places and Destinations in Asia source (http://www.goingplacesinasia.com/) dili ma bangbang ang ka lami sa Pina sa Mindanao....Pina sa Australia LAYO ra kaayo...even Pina namo sa San Vicente, Bukidnon sa una pildihon ang Pina sa Australia. allenation December 10th, 2010, 06:20 AM MALIPAYONG PASKO UG BULAHANG BAG-ONG TUIG FROM THE PROVINCE OF MISAMIS ORIENTAL http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/10-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/11-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/9-2.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/12-2.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/13-2.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/14-2.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/2-5.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/4-3.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/3-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/1-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/6-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/15-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/5-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/16-1.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/7-2.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/8-2.png nice nga mga lights. i wish gi-agian ko na lng ni lastweek..:) tj_brewed December 10th, 2010, 06:26 AM dili ma bangbang ang ka lami sa Pina sa Mindanao....Pina sa Australia LAYO ra kaayo...even Pina namo sa San Vicente, Bukidnon sa una pildihon ang Pina sa Australia. P73 fare is too low. At least 3x that is ideal. Taxi lang daan from Barra to CDB is already about P90 plus keep the change. ang question nga p66B is this budget good for the whole MRS project? or only from linamon to jasaan routes lang? that p73 could be the average in all routes.like cdo-iligan ang minimum ana sa bus kay p125 man, pero naa may jasaan - tagoloan nga posibli 15 lang ang minimum. in the case of passenger handling competition tiyabaw jud ang mga Bus company and local jeepneys kay naa may inter-municipality nga route, so its a compromise bet our government and the bus and jeepney operators.in the case of cargo handling between routes, another group og cargo forwarders ang mutiyabaw kay nakuhaan napod sila ug mga customers.but the cargoes will not deliver directly to the warehouses but to fetch in the station, so dubli o times 3 napod ang expenses sa mga negosyante.if we consider that the government will subsidize most of the budget just to have this project without future, murag nagdayok ato gobyerno.try to relate this story of our PNR.nakaabot ba to ug 50 years?LRT ug MRT is i think pila pa lang ni ka decada pero nakadungog na dayun ta ug kaalkansi.patong napod sa mga commuters. for me no, kada adlaw ko biyahe iligan-Cdeo mura dili kaabot ang pasahero ug 10,000 for cdo-iligan route. dili ko aGAINST ANI NGA PROJECT BUT iconsider unta ang mga angayang iprioritize nga mga projects rather than this MRS nga dili pa jud angayan sa ato area. d_jeb December 10th, 2010, 08:28 AM mao gani ni ingon ko at least 3x is ideal nga fare....plus the income of cargo/freight....cargo/freight will help better the industry production across CIC. ^^yabo! so expect Iligan-CDeO Php200.00 ang plete. Karon asa ka mosakay, sa bus nga katunga ra ang plete or sa tren nga every station lang siya mohunong? dapat pang cargo pud siya para diha bawion :) Now, talking about cargoes, are you expecting that MRS can accommodate humongous amount of loads? e.g. 10,000 bags of cement from Holcim in Lugait to CDO, or tons and tons of cooking oil from granex? Ang highly flammable Petronas Products that needs special/careful handling? NO, unless its design is for freight-rail transport! In short dili ma cater/ maaccommodate ang demand sa mga dagko nga industriya by means of MRS only. Why don’t consider building expressways first instead of a railway? That will endow everyone with better mobility (both cargo and people). Don’t worry about overloading, unsa nalang man diay kwenta anang RA 8794 (Anti Overloading law), kutob ra na sa papel? Atong tan-awon ang sa pinaka simple nga paagi if naglantaw ta sa long term planning para ma develop ang usa ka lugar. Ang mga sakyanan in between CDO-Iligan nagkadghan. Imagine its figures say 15-30 years from now. Dayon ang kalsada mao ra gihapon, kinsa may ganahan mo invest ana? Ma solbad ba sa train nang problemha? Mao ni ang huna huna-on ug maayo sa atong mga lider, unsa man gyud ang KIHANGLANG UNAHON? Ang pag improve sa Road Networks or Relis? Hope it will not turn into “chicken or the egg causality”. Hilig raba kau tang mga pinoy ana. Look at North Luzon, First of, NLEX was built first before railways. Paghuman sa expressway nisunod ang railway because the demand is already there and it is needed. Believing that by building MRS first will boost the economy to a rockethigh is indeed foolish! d_jeb December 10th, 2010, 08:30 AM ang question nga p66B is this budget good for the whole MRS project? or only from linamon to jasaan routes lang? that p73 could be the average in all routes.like cdo-iligan ang minimum ana sa bus kay p125 man, pero naa may jasaan - tagoloan nga posibli 15 lang ang minimum. in the case of passenger handling competition tiyabaw jud ang mga Bus company and local jeepneys kay naa may inter-municipality nga route, so its a compromise bet our government and the bus and jeepney operators.in the case of cargo handling between routes, another group og cargo forwarders ang mutiyabaw kay nakuhaan napod sila ug mga customers.but the cargoes will not deliver directly to the warehouses but to fetch in the station, so dubli o times 3 napod ang expenses sa mga negosyante.if we consider that the government will subsidize most of the budget just to have this project without future, murag nagdayok ato gobyerno.try to relate this story of our PNR.nakaabot ba to ug 50 years?LRT ug MRT is i think pila pa lang ni ka decada pero nakadungog na dayun ta ug kaalkansi.patong napod sa mga commuters. for me no, kada adlaw ko biyahe iligan-Cdeo mura dili kaabot ang pasahero ug 10,000 for cdo-iligan route. dili ko aGAINST ANI NGA PROJECT BUT iconsider unta ang mga angayang iprioritize nga mga projects rather than this MRS nga dili pa jud angayan sa ato area. TONZI December 10th, 2010, 11:23 AM I think the cost of MRT/LRT is higher than the MRS. Much more the operational expenditures. As this one uses diesel cars, then, it can save more than those electric operated MRTs. As far as this project is concerned, it is more cost effective vs. a four lane highway system in terms of operation and maintenance. But as far as "use" is concerned, since people here are inclined to using cars/buses, I think the four lane highway system has the edge. for me, this project deserves a "yes"..( a-la Pilipinas Got Talent, LOL) nivramster December 10th, 2010, 11:49 AM MALIPAYONG PASKO UG BULAHANG BAG-ONG TUIG FROM THE PROVINCE OF MISAMIS ORIENTAL http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg197/mottymot_007/4-3.png mao ni nga picture paglabay nako gabii :colgate: Bamboo88 December 10th, 2010, 11:49 AM I think the cost of MRT/LRT is higher than the MRS. PS: whoever thought of the tagline "I'M POSSIBLE" is a great mind! simply captures the life and thought and view of the man Masterson. mottymot_007 December 10th, 2010, 12:31 PM Cagayan de Oro's very own...
