we've been recently to Dahilayan Zipline and a day after did water rafting in CDO, well worth the experience, though dead tired in the end but well worth it. We stayed at Malberry Suites for a night and have visited the Divine Mercy place as well.

it was a good CDO trip. . . .

thanks for the visit:) na meet unta ka namo:)

New event organizer unfolds in CDO
Thursday, 14 July 2011 00:00

THE city of Cagayan de Oro welcomes a newbie but an oldie in the local industry of event organizing. With so many others cropping up since late last year, a veteran in the business has decided to level up and set the bar that other event organizers and companies can definitely watch out for. Betsy Alano, a local celebrity when it comes to events and the managing director for Big Girl Concepts and Events for 15 solid successful years, announces her new brainchild in the form of Big Fish Concepts and Events.

Big Fish Concepts and Events "is" Big Girl Concepts and Events leveling up to a higher level and in bigger proportions. It is the answer to the booming business industry in Cagayan de Oro when it comes to coming up with more creative and more up to date promotional concepts that can compete with other organizing teams not only in this city, but in other cities as well. Offering several packages such as public relations services, media coordination, event coordination, corporate brand launching, concerts, local, national and international artists bookings ands online shows, Big Fish Concepts and Events is more than just your total events team, it is the big fish when it comes to your promotional needs.

Big Fish Concepts and Events is a conglomeration of multi-talented individuals, each specializing in different fields. The Big Fish Team is composed of Alano (managing director), July Ilagan (assistant managing director), Karlo Henri Lim (project manager/local artist coordinator) and Marc Kizzy Thaddeous Pascua (project manager/admin officer). Bigger and better, the team is tight and more than ready to provide quality service, with experience handling past big events and artists under their sleeves like Sarah Geronimo - The Next One Concert, Vice Ganda May Nag Text, Regine Velasquez, I Love CdeO Earth Day Jam featuring KJWAN, Toni Gonzaga and other outskirt events in the provinces of Bukidnon and Lanao.

And to start off, Big Fish Concepts and Events is coming up with its first big event entitled Band Loop. Band Loop, set on the 19th of August 2011 at the newly renovated PunchBowl as venue, will be featuring local bands with SouthRace as the headline band, a benefit show for the House of Nehemiah - a non-government organization based here in the city that provides residential facilities and services for sexually abused and maltreated girls with ages from seven to 18 years old and in dire need of nurturing and assistance to help them get back on their feet.

Expect more projects from Big Fish Concepts and Events, especially in the coming months since it plans to be bigger and better than the rest.

Council mulls removal of 10% surcharge on water bills
By Annabelle L. Ricalde
Wednesday, July 13, 2011

THE Cagayan de Oro City Council is seeking to either reduce or remove the 10 percent surcharge in water bills imposed on concessionaires who paid their bills after due date.

This came even as the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) has yet to implement the 10 percent of the 30 percent water rate hike it earlier proposed.

Councilor President Elipe, who filed a resolution for the purpose, said instead of the 10 percent surcharge the COWD is currently implementing to consumers after due date, it would be best to give them 10 percent or much higher discount for early payments of water bills.
Whorush: 2 sites by this AdSense ID

"Perhaps many will be urged to pay their bills earlier because of the benefits than the surcharge," Elipe said.

The resolution is addressed through COWD's Board of Directors to make representation at the Philippine Association of Water Districts and the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) for the purpose.

It was learned that LWUA approved COWD's application for a 30 percent increase in water rates, which was supposed to be implemented last June 17 this year.

Councilor Alden Bacal, chair of the committee on public utility, said LWUA's approval came as a surprise although COWD initially informed the city about the approval but did not furnish the committee with the result of the public hearing that it conducted in three areas as agreed.

COWD officials, particularly general manager Rachel Beja, assured that the company will consider all propositions and suggestions of the City Council on the matter.

Capitol approves salary adjustment
By Nicole J. Managbanag
Wednesday, July 13, 2011

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno finally approved the salary adjustment for all regular and casual capitol employees of the provincial Capitol, which will take effect in their next payroll.

Moreno said a total of P26 million will be added for the implementation of the first tranche of the salary adjustment pursuant to the mandate of Department of Budget issued in 2009.

He said capitol employees will receive an additional P26,783 for 2011, based on the memorandum he earlier issued.
Whorush: 2 sites by this AdSense ID

The new salary rates shall be in accordance with the monthly salary schedule as presented for first class province, which corresponds to the same steps of their salary grade allocations as of June 30, 2011.

In the memorandum, the salary adjustment, including related personal services expenditures such as government premium contributions and regular year-end benefits, should be at a level that can be funded on a sustainable basis, upon consideration of the regular annual income of the Province's expenditure and investment plans, from 2011 and onwards.

However, the memorandum also said that the supplementary rules shall likewise be observed governing expenditure management towards the end of the year, such that appropriate austerity measures, as well as vigorous revenue collection strategies, shall be forfeited.

These are attributed to sustain the continued implementation of the standardized salaries of the provincial officials and employees, without necessarily compromising the more urgent needs of the province, while taking into larger account the imminent drop in the IRA allocation for 2012.

"We have to generate additional local funds to make the adjustment possible. We will not sacrifice other good projects in just one funding," Moreno said during his State of the Province Address (Sopa) on Monday.

He said due to the mandated increase, the Capitol will implement cost cutting in other expenses to catch up with the budget.

Moreno strictly implemented several conditions for the staff to follow, citing that the increase comes with great responsibilities.

These conditions include the release of allotment and shall now be based on the Local Budget Matrix following the comprehensive system prescribed by the National Government consistent with the duly reviewed annual budget of the province under appropriation ordinance, being inherent responsibility of the chief executive; all monthly cash flow forecast and analysis will now be formulated by the local finance committee to determine and monitor liquidity of the provincial treasury; to economize expenses there will be a suspension or at least curtailment of travels and attendance to the regular meeting or conventions fully funded by the province except in case to case basis.

Curtailment of donations or aids except for indigent beneficiaries was also emphasized by Moreno, while the Capitol will also suspend advertisement and publication activities except for procurement and other necessary purposes.

In terms of the issuance of gasoline consumption, Moreno said this will now be based on the monthly travel plan while overtime services with compensation must be avoided by adequate planning of work activities.

Moreno also said the province now suspends the hiring of new employees and personnel movements except for mandatory positions while the other relevant economy saving measures or fiscal interventions will be implemented within the Capitol building like energy conservation program designed to mitigate high costs in utility expenses such as power, water and communication services.

He said all revenue generating departments will now double time and come up with management strategies in close collaboration with the provincial treasury office, giving more focus on non-moving or low-performing assets from locally-sourced revenue and receipts.

Moreno said since the policy was already established, it is also expected for the employees to carry with them corresponding increase in the expected outputs and improved outcomes.

Council supports church's pro-poor programs
By Annabelle L. Ricalde
Tuesday, July 12, 2011

AMID the controversy involving bishops who accepted donations from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the Cagayan de Oro City Council passed a resolution supporting the Church and its pro-poor programs.

Councilor Alvin Calingin, proponent of the resolution, said it is a proper time for the City Council to express support to the Catholic Church despite its alleged involvement in the PCSO controversy.

Councilors Ian Mark Nacaya and Juan Sia expressed support to Calingin's resolution, finding it very timely considering that not all people know what the Church has been doing to help the poor people.
Whorush: 2 sites by this AdSense ID

However, Councilor Edgar Cabanlas opposed Calingin's proposal, citing that he sees no light and reason for the council to pass such resolution considering that the issue is still under investigation.

"The best thing to do is to keep silent. Let us not be involved in the issue. Besides, we already know that the Church is helping the poor," Cabanlas said.

With Cabanlas's objection, the council decided to divide the house and called on the members to vote whether or not to pass the proposed resolution.

Majority of the members who were present voted for the passage of Calingin's resolution except for Cabanlas who opted to abstain.

PROJECT WATCH: Limketkai Hotel now unofficially tallest in CDO
Jul.12, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/IMG_0729.jpg

With construction now on the 12th floor, Limketkai Hotel is now unofficially the tallest building in Cagayan de Oro City.

With six (6) more floors to go, the 18-storey building has passed Mallberry Suites’ 10-storey expansion building located a few blocks away. This engineering achievement also placed Cagayan de Oro in the exclusive list of cities in the country with a high-rise building.

The Emporis Standards defines a high-rise building as “a multi-storey structure between 35–100 meters tall, or a building of unknown height from 12–39 floors” and a skyscraper as “a multi-storey building whose architectural height is at least 100 meters.

PROJECT WATCH: Limketkai Mall expansion updates
Jul.12, 2011 in Construction

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/IMG_0714-copy.jpg

Last June 1, 2011, I posted (LINK) some initial construction work at the vacant lot next to Limketkai Mall’s East Wing. Now, it seems that the mall’s expansion isn’t just confined to the vacant lot as pile drivers are already positioned at the once idle lot across Bitan-ag Creek as shown above.

Information gathered at the site revealed that Limketkai’s property includes the area well beyond the creek and that the pile driving works are preratory for Limketkai Hypermart to be connected to the East Wing (via Marks and Spencer). A carpark building is also said to be part of this expansion. I believe the creek at this portion will have to be covered similar to the portion near McDonald’s. The construction is still in the pile driving phase so we may have to wait a few more weeks before we can actually see some vertical works.

Rubber mats now installed at Divisoria playground
Jul.13, 2011 in Construction, Tourism

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/IMG_0740.jpg

A quick update on the new childen’s playground being set up at Divisoria revealed rubber mats are now installed onsite.

The rubber mats are meant to provide a soft cushion for any falls and as safety precaution to children who would use the playground set. They are also sealed to the park’s concrete floor and the rubber edges are likewise sealed with concrete perhaps to prevent theft. Workers are observed to painting the steel structures which support the playground set. The area is currently closed to the public until the works are completed.

Mass-Specc holds oath taking of new officers
Monday, July 11, 2011

MASS-Specc, the oldest and largest federation of primary cooperatives in Mindanao, put out a commencing salvo when its 2011-2012 officers were officially installed last June 17, 2011.

The oath taking of the new officers was officiated by Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo at the N Hotel in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City. It was attended by cooperative leaders and officers from the different primaries in Mindanao.

Also present were Local Government-Northern Mindanao Director Loreto Bhagwani, Assistant Regional Director Cristina Villamil of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Northern Mindanao Director Alicia Euseñia and other government dignitaries in Northern Mindanao.
Whorush: 2 sites by this AdSense ID

In his speech, Robredo cited transparency and accountability as the most effective service an organization could give to its stakeholders.

He said the social and financial services granted by cooperatives to the people in the community are one of the strong supports that sustain the economic activities in the local communities.

Gadwin E. Handumon is the new chairperson of Mass-Specc. He is also the general manager of Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) based in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental.

Handumon humbly started his community service at Paglaum Community Development Foundation, which eventually gave birth to Paglaum MPC.

Through hard work, perseverance, initiative and partnership, he spearheaded the growth of Paglaum MPC, which started with an initial capital P2,000 and 35 founding members into what it is today, with a current asset of P370 million and an outreach of 37,000 members.

Along with this growth are the 11 branches, three satellites and six business units that sprouted across Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Siquijor provinces.

Handumon just finished his master's degree in International Community in Economic Development in New Hampshire University in USA, and he is all abreast with strategies and techniques in strengthening the microfinance services and programs of the cooperatives.

Armed with the Four-Point Development Agenda, the new chairperson of Mass-Specc, together with his vice chairperson Norma Pereyras, Chief Executive Officer Bernadette Toledo and all the other officers and members of the board, are geared to drum up all its partners and supporters to be able to provide quality programs and services to primary cooperatives. Zest Air launches Manila to Cagayan de Oro route and charters to Taipei and Chengdu

* Zest Air, the airline from the Philippines analysed in anna.aero this week, launched three new routes in the last week – one scheduled domestic service and two international charter services. As of 8 July, the airline flies between the country capital Manila (MNL) and Cagayan de Oro (CGY) on the northern coast of the island of Mindanao in the south of the island nation. The 12 weekly flights compete with Cebu Pacific’s 40, Philippine Airlines’ 28 and Airphil Express’ 14 flights a week. The international charter services are characterised by unusual scheduling. On 6 July, the airline connected Kalibo (KLO) in the central part of the country with Taipei (TPE) in Taiwan and on 10 July, flights launched to Chengdu (CTU) in Mainland China. The two routes are operated every five days.

Promising cities for building condosBy: Tessa R. Salazar
Philippine Daily Inquirer 10:26 pm | Friday, July 15th, 2011 0share4 3
MARQUEE Residences is an upscale mid-rise residential development from Alveo Land.
Ever wondered what cities in the country are promising locations for condominium developments? Inquirer Property did a quick survey of top developers and found out that Cebu, Angeles, Davao and Cagayan de Oro :cheers:topped the list, which also included other promising areas such as Marikina and Muntinlupa.

Bobby Dy, Ayala Land Inc. senior vice president and head of residential business group, said that “Cebu, for us, is a growing market.”

“As an important city in the South with the various ingredients of tourism, industry and increasing affluence, we have seen Ayala Land Premier, Alveo and Avida entering the market with a good deal of success. Likewise, areas like Angeles, Davao and Cagayan de Oro are promising centers of growth—these are areas where we see a growing acceptance for condo living, and as such we will be bringing Alveo and Avida products to these markets in the coming months.”

Alejandro S. Mañalac, board vice chair of National Real Estate Association, said Marikina “would be nice and it has actually started hosting several projects.” Mañalac, who recently joined Century Properties Inc. as senior vice president, said “Muntinlupa also has a good potential, especially with the rehabilitation of the Philippine National Railway. However, developments there should only be low- to medium-rise, no frills condos.”

Untapped market in Cebu

Jose Mari H. Banzon, executive vice president and general manager of Federal Land, also said “developers are beginning to discover the strong, largely untapped market in Cebu.”

Rouel Abel Raz, vice president for sales and marketing of Robinsons Communities, explained that “cities where land is getting scarce and prices of residential subdivisions are getting pricey will start to accept condo living as a great alternative.”

Two weeks ago, Ayala Land subsidiary Alveo Land launched its first mid-rise condominium in Angeles City, Pampanga called the Marquee Residences.

The P1.7-billion mid-rise condominium project features 6,605 sq m of land area at the cost of P87,000/sq m. ALI sees the north part of Central Luzon as a key area for growth in the country. It has been recognized for its burgeoning commerce, leisure and recreational elements. Angeles has been touted as a rising regional hub. ALI calls it the “growth corridor of the north.”

Two months ago, Ayala Land announced its partnership with Davao-based Anflo Group of Companies on the P5-billion project Abreeza that includes a 26-story residential condominium. It would be located on JP Laurel Avenue in Davao City.

Ayala Land has introduced condominium projects to Cebu, such as Alveo and Avida; upscale condominium development 1016 Residences; and countryside living with Amara, among others. In January, Ayala Land affiliate Cebu Holdings Inc. announced it will be spending about P3 billion for the expansion of the Ayala Center Cebu mall with Antonino Aquino, ALI president and CHI chair, saying that the next phase of Ayala Center Cebu’s expansion reflected the interest of Ayala in the development of Cebu.

MARQUEE Residences is an upscale mid-rise residential development from Alveo Land.
Ever wondered what cities in the country are promising locations for condominium developments? Inquirer Property did a quick survey of top developers and found out that Cebu, Angeles, Davao and Cagayan de Oro topped the list, which also included other promising areas such as Marikina and Muntinlupa.Bobby Dy, Ayala Land Inc. senior vice president and head of residential business group, said that “Cebu, for us, is a growing market.”

PPA to spend P1.5B for ’11 projects
http://www.portcalls.com/news-archive/2011/news20110711-e.php

http://cagayandeorodev.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/port10.jpg

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has set aside P1.5 billion in capital expenditures this year to complete projects started by the previous administration as well as to improve major gateways.

In a press briefing last Friday, PPA assistant general manager for Finance and Administration Atty David Simon said apart from improvement of key ports Manila, Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, General Santos, Batangas and Iloilo, there will be no major port construction this year.

For the latter part of the year and until 2012, three projects will be implemented at Cagayan de Oro port in southern Philippines These are the paving of 20,500 square meters of newly developed operational back-up area to provide additional space for storage of container cargoes; construction of a two-storey passenger terminal building designed to accommodate 1,500 passengers at any given time; and construction of three roll on-roll off berths that would accommodate large long-haul ro-ro vessels of 6,500 to 19,000 metric tons and with a minimum draft requirement of seven meters. The projects will cost P72.21 million, P250 million and P50 million, respectively.

Cagayan de Oro port caters to an average 1,200 passengers daily during regular season and 2,500 passengers daily during peak season. It handles an average 12,500 twenty-equivalent units a month and receives seven vessels a day ranging from superferries, liners and trampers.

The wharf of Tacloban port in southern Philippines will also be expanded this year, according to PPA.

THE opening of the Laguindingan Airport could be delayed due to the government’s slow bidding process for the Air Navigational Aid System (ANAS). Also, the entry of Secretary Mar Roxas and the appointment of four new undersecretraries at the DOTC will greatly affect the bidding for the ANAS.

Summer Getaway: Top Tourist Spots in the Philippines
www.adlsu.com (ateneo de la salle university official webpage)
Last Updated on Monday, 4 April 2011 07:49
Written by Hyacinth, Senior Vice President

Summer has officially begun, and what better way to spend it than to go out of your comfort zone and explore awesome vacation spots? You don’t even have to get a passport — tourists are flocking our very own islands and having a great time!

So if you’re still thinking about where to go for your getaway, here’s a list of interesting Philippine tourist destinations.

Baguio

Of course, our Summer Capital always comes to mind this season. As if the blissfully cool weather and the lovely pines aren’t enough reason to visit, Baguio also boasts of the famous recreational and historical sites, such as Burnham Park (where you can rowboat on a lake) and The Mansion (which is the official summer residence of the President). Don’t forget to grab some strawberry jam before you leave!

Boracay

There’s a reason why this island is so famous around the globe. It’s a combination of world-class beaches, fun water activities, indulgent accommodations, and gorgeous sunsets. Plus, the atmosphere in Boracay is so relaxed that even foreigners love to stroll barefoot along the rows of tiangges. This beach-haven is also a celebrity favorite — during the summer, it’s filled with celebrity events and parties.

Cagayan de Oro

If you can’t decide between the city and adventure, then CdeO is for you. Its city proper is an up-and-coming urban site, with malls and hotels sprouting everywhere. But take several minutes of travel, and you can enjoy rafting on white-water rapids, or zooming along Asia’s longest dual zip line, or spinning like crazy inside a zorb ball, or even exploring caves and historical sites. Take your pick among the various city hubs and nature parks.

Camarines Sur

Extreme sports? Heck, yeah! CamSur has become internationally known for the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex, where wakeboarding, waterskiing, and waterskating competitions happen every year. There’s also the Skate Park, equipped with ramps for those thrill-seeking wheels. And for those who just want to enjoy the view, rent a picturesque cabana or chill in the white-sand beach resorts.

Camiguin

This province off the coast of Northern Mindanao is one of the country’s best-kept secrets. Stop by historical sites like the Sunken Cemetery (with its breathtaking sunsets), or detour into the various waterfalls. Bathe in the natural hot, cold, or soda springs, or at the serene beaches. Or go island-hopping into the White Sandbar or the starfish-laden Mantigue Island. To top that off, taste the delectable pastel — Camiguin’s pride and a sure treat!

Cebu

This island is full of sites that tell fascinating stories of our history. From the shrine of the Magellan’s Cross, to the statue of Lapu-Lapu, to the Sto. Niño Basilica, and even to the Taoist Temple, history lessons come to life here. But don’t be fooled: Cebu is a modern metropolis of interesting architecture and energetic people. Also check out its famous products, including the beautifully-crafted guitars and tasty dried mangoes.

Puerto Princesa

This city is a portal to the rich natural wonders of Palawan. First on the list is the internationally recognized Subterranean River — the longest in the world. If you’re more of a beach bum, check out the white-sand beaches, or take it a step further by sailing or even kite-boarding. But definitely don’t miss out on scuba diving to explore world-class coral reefs and amazing marine life.

Still didn’t find your ideal escape? Other top tourist destinations include Davao City, Zambales, Bohol, Cagayan Valley, Negros Oriental, Ilocos Norte, and yes, Metro Manila.

PIA Press Release
Saturday, July 16, 2011

Bishops, governors, civil society groups convene in Oro for a peace confab
by Jorie C. Valcorza

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, July 16 PIA –- Key stakeholders of the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the National Democratic Front (NDF) Peace Panels, met for a “Conference on Conflict Transformation to Good Governance,” here, yesterday, July 15.

Held at the International Center for Peace- Balay Mindanao Foundation, Inc., Bulua this city, the activity was attended by bishops, governors, and civil society organization (CSO) leaders from Northern Mindanao and Caraga Regions.

“The GPH Peace Panel now recognizes and adopts the strategy of bringing the voice of the public to the negotiating table. Although this is easier said than done, we will be getting it in conferences such as this,” GPH peace panel member Ednar Dayanghirang, said.

He also said “Participation of the church, civil society groups, youth or the local communities can really make a difference in this round of peace negotiations and hopefully help put an end on the 42 years armed conflict between the GPH and the NDF.”

Thus, he called on the Provincial Peace and Order Councils (PPOC) of both regions to demand from the GPH-NDF panel for a temporary ceasefire while the negotiations are ongoing

“Negotiations could take quite a long time and there are other factors like the releases of prisoners and the joint agreement on security immunity guarantee (JASIG) that can drag down the process,” Dayanghirang, who also chairs the GPH Reciprocal Working Committee on Socio-Economic Reforms (RWC-SER), said.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro quoted a line from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPPAP) during the confab saying “The government cannot solve the peace process alone, neither can the NDF win the peace process too, it’s therefore a loss, loss situation.”

“I think we can work for a win-win situation for both, where all parties can be accommodated, with careful listening through dialogue, we can understand the plight and context of both parties. This is the challenge of meeting differences and working for a total peace process,” Ledesma said.

Present during the discussions were Atty. Jaime Crispin Arroyo, legal consultant and member of the GPH Monitoring Committee Secretariat, Vice-Governor, Norris C. Babiera of Misamis Oriental and Ariel C. Hernandez, member of the Action Asia Leader’s Forum.

Also present were Atty. Rene K. Burdeos, Director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Caraga region, Assistant Regional Director Nilo P. Castañares of DILG 10, and representatives from other sectors and civil society groups. (PIA 10)

Jul.18, 2011 in Construction

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/IMG_0747.jpg

The Regional Office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is set to build its Executive Building right at the DENR Compound in Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City.

As shown in the perspective installed onsite, the storey structure will have a glassy facade, perhaps to save electricity on lighting. The project site has been fenced and construction is said to commence soon once the budget has been approved.

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/IMG_0746.jpg

The growing number of transactions in the said office has resulted to inconvenience to both employees and clients. The new building will somehow decongest the main building. Info is that the Regional Director and some higher positions in the office will be relocated to the new building.

lami ang manok sa Max. If they can change by serving customers as quick as fast food then their business will definitely grow.

Personal experience tells me that when I'm at DV soria, and I have plenty of time to spare then I go to Max. But if I'm in a hurry then I go to any fast food.

So Max, listen up, my personal experience maybe the same to many hungry customers. Try to run your restaurant like fast food. It may change your business for the better.

lami ang manok sa Max.

Board pushes for use of bamboo in Misamis Oriental
By Nicole J. Managbanag
Tuesday, July 19, 2011

A MEMBER of the Provincial Board (PB) is encouraging his constituents in Misamis Oriental to promote the use of bamboo products.

Board Member Jimmy Caiña authored a resolution urging the provincial and municipal agriculture offices within Misamis Oriental to consider the promotion of the so-called "bamboo revolution project" of the Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIC).

Caiña said the project provides alternative livelihood, controls soil erosion and the spread of carbon dioxide, and will enable the country to get a bigger slice of the $8 billion global market demand for the material.

"Misamis Oriental is a coastal province and is considerably surrounded with rivers, which are the favorite and natural habitat of bamboos. But presently, due to lack of information dissemination and support by concerned government agencies, the optimum value of bamboo remains unknown to the local people," Caiña said.

He said the resolution is purposely made to promote the bamboo industry of the country.

Executive Order 879 was issued last May 2010, creating the PBIC.

Caiña emphasized that if the people of Misamis Oriental will have the heart to plant bamboos, it will save the ecosystem and provide extra income.

"Scientists said bamboos are eco-friendly since they are best in preventing soil erosion and controlling the spread of carbon dioxide," he said.

Caiña said that a substantial portion of the order directs the use of bamboo for at least 25 percent of desks and other furniture requirements of public elementary and secondary schools, and prioritizing the use of bamboo in furniture and other construction requirements of government agencies.

Reports show that in 2009 alone, the Department of Education (DepEd) bought about P1 billion worth of desks.

Caiña said the Department of Trade and Industry is also exploring the possibility exporting bamboo products to Japan and in other Asean countries.

Misamis Oriental sees potential of Mt. Balatukan Range agro-enterprise
Thursday, July 21, 2011

GOVERNOR Oscar Moreno has expressed gratitude to the Aquino administration for the delivery of multi-million projects designed to showcase the complementation of government resources in the Mt. Balatukan Range Convergence Agro-Enterprise (MBRCAE) Cluster.

Moreno said that as early as 2004, convergence had already set in the province but only in a lesser quantity.

"It is only now that it has taken off in full swing. And I see that it could do a lot for us to hand Misamis Oriental to the succeeding generations, including the unborn," Moreno said.

The convergence initiative pushes for sustainable rural development as support for the establishment of an agro-enterprise cluster that will pursue goals towards agricultural enhancement and environmental preservation in a "ridge-to-reef" approach.

Investments in the cluster area involving 11 towns in the first congressional district, mostly on food production, among others, is expected to reach P1.5 billion in the next six years, from 2011 to 2016.

As of present, a total of P183.492 million in various projects have been turned-over by the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to the different local government units (LGU) within the cluster.

The DA provided a check worth P3.5 million for farm equipment of Medina town for a village-type cob dryer facility and two units Hermetic cocoon corn on cob Dryer; certificate of award for the Mindanao Rural Development Project-Adoptable Project Loan 2 that covers rural infrastructure and community fund for agricultural development and natural resource management worth P47.4 million; Mindanao North Coast Integrated Area Development Projects to cover the concreting of farm-to-market roads of Barangays Macopa, Talisayan, Barangay Manaol, Portulin-Gasa, in Medina and the construction of Solar Dryers of Barangays Sidlakan, San Vicente, Dig-Aguyan, Gasa and San Roque in Medina worth P7.09 million.

It also provided check for the establishment of "bagsakan" or auction landing center for Balingasag Mariculture Park concerning the development of a 120 square meters project located in Barangay Waterfall, Balingasag worth P1.5million; insurance coverage by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. that includes 100 farmers in the convergence areas worth P1.5 million at P15,000 each free premium; Agri-Finance Program by the Agricultural Credit Policy Council that covers 314 farmer beneficiaries with the Cooperative Bank of Misamis Oriental as conduit from Gingoog City and Balingasag worth P18.4 million and awarding of 412 bags of OPV White Seeds to the Provincial Agricultural Office worth P267,800.

On the other hand, DAR provided letter of commitments to LGU Balingoan for the Agrarian Reform Project (ISP) III and "Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo Program" for the construction of a 30-linear meter bridge in Barangay Kamanikan, Salay town worth P45 million and construction of the 40-linear meter Casulog Bridge I in Barangay Casulog Gingoog City worth P60 million.

Meanwhile, DENR awarded 35 free patents to qualified beneficiaries of Barangay 18-A in Gingoog City for them to have an appropriate tenurial instrument issued which can be utilized for agri-business and productivity for family sustainability and a check for the maintenance and protection of established tree plantation of the PLO Cooperative in Balingasag worth P334,380.

Agriculture Undersecretary Joel Rudinas said the DA has committed another P156.7 million on top of its P93.8 million commitment in the 2011 MBRCAE Cluster Plan while DAR Undersecretary Gerry Pacturan also said DAR has committed another P135.6 million on top of its P16 million commitment. (PIA)

THE City Council committee on trade, commerce and cooperatives chaired by Councilor Juan Sia on Thursday supported and endorsed to the office of Mayor Vicente Emano various requests of the Cagayan de Oro City Cooperative Development Council (CCDC).

Ayala, Mistubishi unit eye solar venture in Laguindingan
Jul.20, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/solarpark.jpg

PhilNewEnergy, Inc., a joint-venture company formed by Michigan Power Inc (MPI), a wholly owned unit by Ayala Corporation, and Diamond Generating Asia Ltd (DGA), a unit of Mitsubishi Corp. is seriously considering to put up a 40-megawatt solar power project in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental. I downloaded this info from the Department of Energy website.

Ayala Corp. had earlier invested 112.5 million pesos ($2.6 million) in new capital into MPI to explore opportunities in renewable energy and to enter into possible joint ventures. MPI will own 60 percent of PhilNewEnergy and DGA will hold 40 percent.

PhilNewEnergy, Inc. officially submitted to the Department of Energy its application for the Laguindingan Solar Power project last June 10, 2011 for endorsement to DOE Review Committee’s evaluation.

I believe this will cover the power requirements of Laguindingan Airport and its surrounding areas which are expected to benefit from the airport’s operations.

PH, Taiwan seal tie-up for e-vehicle dev’t (http://newsbytes.ph/2011/07/16/ph-taiwan-seal-tie-up-for-e-vehicle-dev%E2%80%99t/)

Senator Edgardo J. Angara has revealed that the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Teco) and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (Meco) have signed a letter of intent for Electric Vehicle (EV) development during the 17th Philippine-Taiwan Joint Economic Conference (JEC) recently.

Teco and Meco expressed their desire to work closely to establish a cooperative framework for the facilitation of EV development in Taiwan and the Philippines.

http://newsbytes.ph/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/e-jeepney-300x218.jpg
E-jeepneys are already plying the streets of Makati
Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is in the forefront of developing EV technology. Last year, the Taiwanese government announced a seven-year scheme for developing its EV industry, earmarking around $309.2 million in investments for the program.

“This cooperation is a step in the right direction. Taiwan is an emerging global EV leader. They have a great model on which we can base our own policy and business framework for the development of a Green Transport System,” said Angara.

Angara, chair of the Congressional Commission on Science, Technology and Engineering (Comste), pointed out that switching the public transport system to EV’s would lessen air pollution and ease the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Comste conceptualized the Green Transport Initiative under the Renewable Energy Research and Development Institute (RERDI) and is implementing it in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

“The Green Transport System that we envision involves using renewable energy sources like geothermal, solar, wind or biofuels to charge electric public utility vehicles like e-jeepneys, e-trikes and hybrid vehicles,” said Angara.

http://newsbytes.ph/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/e-trike-300x199.jpg
Pres. Aquino tries out an e-trike in Mandaluyong City

Cagayan de Oro recently ordered its first e-jeepney which will be used for shuttling services in the Pueblo de Oro Business Park. About 70 e-jeepneys are presently used in public transport in different parts of the country.

Angara noted that Comste is looking into the viability of an EV industry in the Philippines. Comste is developing EV standards together with the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (Evap).

The standards will be essential in formulating effective EV policies. Comste has also been working to establish an EV testing facility in the country.

Following the JEC, Comste and Evap have been invited to the Automotive Research and Testing Center (ARTC) in Taiwan.

“Learning from the successes and failures of the Taiwanese EV industry could really help us in developing our own. Our country has so much potential to become an Asean leader in producing public utility electric vehicles,” said Angara.

Other top tourist destinations include Davao City, Zambales, Bohol, Cagayan Valley, Negros Oriental, Ilocos Norte, and yes, Metro Manila.

i cant imagine that they included cdeo in their list

Northern Mindanao exports increased by 39% in Q1 (http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/home/regions/14082-northern-mindanao-exports-increased-by-39-in-q1)
THURSDAY, 21 JULY 2011 18:46 BONG D. FABE / CORRESPONDENT
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Northern Mindanao’s freight-on-board exports in the first quarter increased by 39 percent, totaling $277 million, the Northern Mindanao regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-10) said.

The bulk of the region’s exports came from Misamis Oriental, cornering a 56-percent share of total exports, which amounted to $154 million. Second was reported by Lanao del Norte at 30 percent, or $107.4 million.

Bukidnon added 4 percent to the total exports. But the share of the provinces of Misamis Occidental and Camiguin barely reached 1 percent.

Lanao del Norte posted the biggest export growth in the first quarter with 74 percent.

“This is attributed to the increase in global demand for coconut-based products,” said DTI-10 Director Alicia V. Euseña.

Coconut and coconut-based products are Lanao del Norte’s main export commodities.

“Misamis Occidental, a top exporter in crude coconut oil, dropped really low from $13.93 million in 2010 to only $1.57 million when its top exporter opted to sell its produce to the domestic market, which had a higher prevailing price for crude coconut oil,” Euseña said.

Crude coconut/cochin oil, oleo chemicals, copra solvent and expeller cake/meal were the top dollar earners for the first quarter, with cochin oil accounting for 39 percent and oleo chemicals for 32 percent.

Other top exports for the period included canned pineapple products, sintered ore, rubber, abaca pulp/fibers, desiccated coconut and sawn lumbers.

In terms of growth rate, the report showed that copra solvent and expeller cake/meal registered the highest increase at 173 percent, while abaca pulp posted the most significant decline of 20 percent due to its seasonal demand in the global market.

“Such reason, plus the additional requirements set in clearing the products to be safe from radiation because of our proximity to Japan which was affected by the earthquake last March, has contributed to the substantial decrease in the export of mineral products, aquamarine, sugar cane products, iron and steel, special transactions and gifts, toys and housewares,” Euseña said.

Misor college aims to rank among RP’s top tertiary schools (http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/?p=4019)
by GENESIS V. MONTERDE

CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental — The Misamis Oriental State College of Arts and Technology (MOSCAT) will do its best to rank itself among the top learning institutions, not only in region 10, but in the entire country, as well.

This assurance came from Dr. Rosalito Quirino, college president, who said “all the recommendations of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) will be given utmost attention in order to meet the desired standard every institution should have.”

He said the accreditation process is necessary in order to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a particular program or course.

In fact, it is a quality assurance exercise, under which services and operations of educational institutions or programs are evaluated by an external body to determine if applicable standards are met before granting the accreditation status.

Evaluators from AACCUP presented, during the exit conference, their assessment and recommendations regarding some identified programs for a sustained quality college education of MOSCAT.

Quirino affirmed to various stakeholders present during the said conference his commitment and vow in the pursuit of making MOSCAT, a center for quality education.

‘Green jeepneys’ now ply Cagayan de Oro (http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/?p=3765)
By BONG FABE, Contributor

THE first ever electric passenger jeepneys in Northern Mindanao are only found in this capital city and regional center.

Environment-friendly and cost-efficient, these e-jeepneys can be found in Mindanao’s benchmark for eco-friendly developments—Pueblo de Oro Business Park—plying as shuttle services in its environs, especially to and from the surrounding subdivisions, mall and universities.

But plans are in the boards to bring the e-jeepneys out of Pueblo de Oro and into the city’s thoroughfares as part of Pueblo de Oro’s campaign for the environment.

The only hindrance to make this a reality is the lack of franchise from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), said Rommel T. Juan, vice president of PhUV Inc., one of Filipino companies that make the e-jeepneys.

Juan told journalists during a press conference, July 5, following the launching of Primavera Residences, the first environment-friendly condominium high-rise in Northern Mindanao, that e-jeepneys are the commuters’ vehicle for the future, which he said is already here in the present.

“E-jeepneys are environment-friendly because it does not produce any harmful gas from its exhaust because it has no exhaust system. It does not create noise,” he said.

Unlike conventional, fossil fuel-fed vehicle engines, which produced harmful emissions like carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide that can contribute to climate change and global warming, e-jeepneys do none of the above, thus helping in mitigating climate change and global warming.

Studies showed that for every liter of diesel, a convention fossil fuel-fed engine releases into the atmosphere at least 3,150 grams of carbon dioxide and 16 grams of nitrous oxide.

But the e-jeepneys produced nothing, but speed. It can cruise up to a maximum of 35 km/hr.

E-jeepneys uses ordinary batteries for power. This can be recharge for eight hours. A fully-charged battery can power the e-jeepney for up to 55 kms.
An ordinary e-jeepney, Juan said, uses 12 rechargeable batteries. And each e-jeepney can carry a rated load of 2,000 kgs. and can ferry 14 persons.

Oro port modernization underway (http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/?p=4246)
by MIKE BAÑOS, Correspondent

The Macabalan port in Cagayan de Oro.
THE biggest port in northern Mindanao will get a P400-million upgrade this year as part of the Philippine Ports Authority’s effort to meet international port facility and service standards for 10 key ports by the end of 2011.

During a press conference here, Cagayan de Oro port manager Necitas G. Layola, Jr. said PPA general manager Juan C. Sta. Ana has already approved the construction of a new passenger terminal building worth P250 million, the paving of newly-completed back-up area which will cost P71,268 million, and the construction of a roll-on roll-off (Ro-Ro) berthing facilities and berthing dolphins worth P50 million.

“The first two projects will be funded by PPA’s internal funds while the third project will be undertaken as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project by the private sector,” Mr. Layola said.

The paving of the newly completed 2.075 hectare back-up area for Berths 12 and 13 will include the installation of paving blocks, curbs and gutters, said Jessica D. Angeles, executive assistant of the Office of the Port Manager during a briefing.

The facility would be used for general cargo, dry bulk and containerized conventional domestic and foreign vessels. It will also include an additional area for break bulk cargo like fertilizer, corn grains and sugar, and a common storage area for break bulk cargo in crates, rolled steel coils, logs, lumber, bottled cargo and other steel products. A notice of award has been given to the winning bidder by the PPA Head Office last May 23, 2011.

The P250-million two storey passenger terminal will have an estimated floor area of 4,000 square meters (sq.m.) with an estimated 1,000-person seating capacity, Ms. Angeles said. The program of work for the project is now being prepared by the PPA Head Office and bidding is scheduled by the end of this month.

The P50-million three-unit Roll on-Roll off berth and breasting dolphins will be constructed at Berths 1-5 near the passenger terminal complex to ease berth congestion, Ms. Angeles said. The facility is dedicated to Manila, Cebu, Bohol and Bacolod route RoRo passenger vessels using Mediterranean docking.

“This will enhance the convenience, safety and security of embarking and disembarking passengers with the provision of 3-meter wide elevated walkways,” Ms. Angeles said. The feasibility study for the project is now being completed to determine the port’s development requirements under the Public-Private Partnership guidelines, she added.

Initially, five projects were requested by Rep. Rodriguez from the PPA including P20-million for the repair of the warehouse which now serves as the passenger terminal and another P80-million for the construction of a new terminal but the PPA Head Office chose to upgrade the request to the two-story P250-million facility now up for bidding.

Northern Mindanao still holds the biggest economy in Mindanao (http://www.zambotimes.com/archives/34703-Northern-Mindanao-still-holds-the-biggest-economy-in-Mindanao.html)
by Jorie C. Valcorza

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental — Northern Mindanao has sustained its rank as the top performing regional economy in Mindanao, over the years.

This, as it continues to gain increases and posts the highest per capita Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in Mindanao and third, nationwide.

The highest increase recorded was in year 2008 when it reported an increase of more than five (5) percent, from Php67 billion in 2007 to Php71 billion.

In 2009, the regional economy continued to boost at Php73 billion, reflecting an almost three percent increase over the previous year.

This was the good news that Mayor Philip T. Tan of Tangub City, currently the Chairperson of the Macro and Development Administration Committee reported, during the Regional Development Forum held at Grand Caprice Restaurant, here, yesterday.

He said the Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry (AFF) sector still had the lead, among all sectors, in terms of output growth with 4.2 percent increase, while the industry sector had 3.1 percent and the service sector pegged at 1.7 percent.

"The contribution of the three sectors to total regional output has remained as in previous years, each one with over 30% share but topped by Services with 38 percent," he added.

Meanwhile, the average employment rate in the region for year 2010 has remained at 95 percent, which is higher than the national average of 92.6 percent.

Tan said the number of employed persons has increased by 27,000 between 2010 and 2009, a much lower figure than the 42,000 increase between 2009 and 2008.

Conversely, unemployment rate remained at 5 percent. The number of unemployed persons, increased by 4,000 between 2010 and 2009, also lower than the 5,300 increase between 2009 and 2008.

Underemployment rate, has remained high at 28 percent, much higher than the 18.4 percent national average.

The increase in the number of underemployed persons of 16,000 persons was, however, lower than the previous year's increase of 42,000 underemployed. (PIA 10)

Divine Mercy Hills Shrine in El Salvador, Mindanao is Holy Ground claims prayer group (http://asianjournalusa.com/divine-mercy-hills-shrine-in-el-salvador-mindanao-is-holy-ground-claims-pr-p11149-60.htm)

http://asianjournalusa.com/clients/asianjournalusa/7-22-2011-6-59-33-PM-8509575.22.jpg

“It was in the year 2000, The Golden Jubilee Year - when a group of Divine Mercy devotees started to receive visions, messages and instructions from Jesus to start to build the Church of His Mercy,” the testimony is told in a pamphlet -- published by the non-profit group Divine Mercy Foundation of Mindanao -- and explains the mystery behind the Divine Mercy Hills shrine.
However the response was not an immediate yes.
“For three straight years the group ignored the Lord’s request to build His Church out of fear and worry.”
They only had P2,000 pesos in the bank.
“It was an enormous task that the Lord was asking them. They had mixed feelings of doubts and uncertainties how this project, which will be funded from solicitations and donations, will materialize. Their fears and worries even became bigger with with the catastrophic disaster of the Twin Towers in New York USA in 2001.”
The narrative continues, “However, God’s ways are not man’s ways and the Lord rebuked them for their lack of faith with this message, “Why do you doubt? The fact that you have doubts indicate that you do not know your God, as you should. If your prayer life is infiltrated with doubts, you have denied yourself the greatest single avenue of power that your God has made available to you. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Obedience to my commands always bring fulfillment. When I give you instructions, obey immediately and watch My perfect plan unfold in your life.”
God won out. “Armed only with deep faith in the Mercy and providence of the Lord and convinced of the urgency of the message” the group, comprised of homemakers and ordinary townsfolk, frantically followed up with years of activity and outreach letting divine intervention miraculously clear the path that was once obscured by doubt and incredulity.
Today, the 50-foot statue of the Divine Mercy Image stands on the hills overlooking the town of El Salvador, now a city, in Misamis Oriental in Mindanao and Macajalar Bay to the east. The red and pale rays in the image are made of stairs that lead up to an inner chamber within the heart of the image where a tabernacle awaits the pilgrim. The image stands like a lighthouse for ships at sea.
The symbolism is intentional. According to the testimony, “It serves as a beacon of hope for weary souls and a fountain of respite for all people.”
The little town of El Salvador in Mindanao where the Divine Mercy Hills Shrine is ensconced above a valley has become a magnet for pilgrims and travelers from all over the Philippines and many parts of the world eager to see the wonders of mercy that the Lord has wrought in this remote part of the world. Among them are the faithful who carry out the deeds prayers and words asked in the “Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul” by Sister Faustina which reads, “I desire that the whole world know my infinite mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy.” (Diary 687)
“The site would be in this century what Fatima was in its own century according to the Lord,” explained Paquita Adaza, the spokesperson for the Divine Mercy Foundation of Mindanao, Inc. and one of the members of the charismatic prayer group that was inspired to carry out the enormous undertaking.
She explained it took their prayer group three years to act but in the end, the numerous signs, encouragement and inspiration from the Lord won out over what seemed insurmountable obstacles of fear, apprehension, lack of money and procrastination to build a shrine in an obscure town in Mindanao.
“True to His words, when the group submitted to God’s Holy Will, an endless account of miracles took place, from the discovery of the land, negotiations with lot owners, and finding funds for the purchase of the lots, up to the outpouring of donations for its initial developments and the construction of the P25M-plus, 50-foot statue in only three years.”
Paqits Adaza was in Malibu, California for a retreat last week, July 11-16, 2011, where she shared her testimony about the mystery of the shrine and announced the shrine’s last remaining work, the construction of a church for pilgrims which will be consecrated on October 13, 2013.
The church will be built behind the statue and a leading architectural firm capped the design with a unique building frame in the shape of crown of thorns that will adorn its domed roof.
“Time is short,” according to Paqits Diaz, “We were given ten years by the Lord to complete this work. We started in 2003 and we shall end the work in 2012-2013.”
There is a sense of anticipation in her voice. At the same time, one encounters in the person of Paqits Diaz a sense of peace and joy in the Lord and a total trust in his plan of mercy.
Intercessory Prayer Ministry
The Divine Mercy Intercessory Prayer Ministry, is the powerhouse behind the Foundation according to Paqits Adaza. “This group is composed of simple lay people who are blessed with the gifts of visions and prophecy. It is through the members of this group, particularly Agustina Tante, Merlyn Pacana and Marlyn Aguilor, that God revealed His plan to build the Divine Mercy Shrine.”
Shrine Facts
The shrine is currently co-managed by three organizations: the Divine Mercy Foundation of Mindanao, Inc., the Congregation of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Inc. headed by Fr. Jam M. Rokosz, MIC, Superior General MIC and Fr. Jan Migacz, MIC, Superior of the Asian Vicarate of MIC, and the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro headed by Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma, S.J. The Rector of the Archdiosesan Shrine of Divine Mercy is Fr. Walerian Pozniak, MIC.
The Divine Mercy Hills will feature complete retreat and seminar facilities. Places for reflection and meditation such as Mary’s Rosary Garden and the Stations of the Cross will sprawl over the 12-hectare area.
The 50-foot Statue of Jesus Christ of Divine Mercy is at the center of the shrine. Its base houses the reconciliation rooms while the heart holds a chamber of adoration.
Divine Mercy Hills Information
A book “Mysteries and Miracles: Divine Mercy Hills” details the work of shrine and is available from Divine Mercy Publications, owned by the Divine Mercy Foundation of Mindanao. For more information, email divinemercypublications@yahoo.com.
Healing Waters
The book “Mysteries and Miracles” contains testimonies of the many miracles witnessed at the shrine. It recalls how hidden springs in the hills of the shrine were discovered after much discernment and prayers during the early days of construction at the shrine grounds when construction crews experienced the hardship of hauling water up from the foothills.
The waters have healing properties as revealed and promised by the Lord.
Testimonies
One testimony is of the healing of a Muslim woman Nurhina Marcampo Udin in July 2007 as reported by Mrs. Raquel E. Cabarron in July 2007.
Another, Alma A. Jovero of Dumaguete City claimed she was healed of her arthritis after drinking the healing water. Her son, Wilfredo Jovero Jr. was also healed of his drug addiction on the Feast of Divine Mercy last April 15, 2007.
Miracles
According to the book “Mysteries and Miracles” (Page 44) Divine Mercy Hills is Holy Ground. And accounts of miracles give proof to the claim of the visionaries that the place is set apart by divine design.
The site was first visited by the prayer group on the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, Feb 11 in a village coincidentally named “El Salvador” (The Savior).
“The Lord in a message said He prepared this place a long time ago. It is a place of healing and conversion. A safe refuge where weary souls come for rest,” according to Paqits Adaza.
Our Lady of the Snows
El Salvador’s patron saint is Our Lady of the Snows. Our Lady of the Snows commemorates the miracle of how an unusual snowfall in the middle of summer in the month of August in Rome marked the footprint of where the Basilica of St. Mary Major was eventually built in the year 352 to honor the wishes of the Blessed Mother.
Unexplained Signs
At the Divine Mercy Hills Shrine many have witness many unexplained signs.
According to eyewitness reports, “In August 25, 2004 one visitor, Mike Dial, a balikbayan from Sacramento, California, saw a flash of light like a bright morning star moving around the vicinity of the Divine Mercy Hills. It stopped above the spot where the Divine Mercy Statue is now standing. It was revealed in a vision to a member of the intercessory prayer group that the bright morning star is the one protecting the place which is holy ground.” (See bottom photo.)
Pilgrims also witnessed a celestial phenomenon also seen at Fatima, the miracle of the sun, in April 2004 on Good Friday after a recitation of the Stations of the Cross. It would not be the only time. Several times the dancing sun appeared especially during the celebration of the Feast of Mercy (Sunday after Easter) and the birthday of the Blessed Virgin (Sept 8).
Shrine Visit
Pilgrims are advised to observe a prayerful atmosphere when they visit the shrine. To spend time in the chapel praying the Chaplet of Mercy and simply communicating with the Lord. It is likewise advised for pilgrims to observe dress codes when visiting the shrine. Avoid wearing revealing dresses and shorts. This is a holy place not a picnic ground.

Studies showed that for every liter of diesel, a convention fossil fuel-fed engine releases into the atmosphere at least 3,150 grams of carbon dioxide and 16 grams of nitrous oxide.

gi-unsa ni pag compute? I hope someone can enlighten me.
1 liter diesel = 3.15kg of CO2?

This is what I got from EPA.gov
Diesel carbon content per gallon: 2.778 kg
1 US gallon = 3.785411784 liters
