Xavier University to develop Bugo property into College of Agriculture Training and Research Facility

Xavier University is set to develop their 109-hectare El Gaucho property in Bugo, Cagayan de Oro City into a College of Agriculture Training and Research Facility.

The property is located on the eastern side of the Sayre Highway near Upper Puerto. Although accessibility is via Puerto, much of the property actually belongs to Bugo. Below are the main components of the College of Agriculture Complex:

WELD Industrial Sales Depot, the first one-stop industrial store, opens business in Cagayan de Oro Tuesday.

Located at J.R. Borja Extension, this city, store owner Engr. Joy Bagaloyos said this is the first branch established in the city to cater industrial needs of local individuals out of convenience.

With main branch in Taguig, Metro Manila, Weld Industrial Sales Depot accepts wholesale and retail on all types of welding machines, welding rods, wood machinery, hand tools, pumps and other industrial equipment.

"Prices are affordable...We would want the people to see and say for themselves how affordable our products are compared to other leading industrial stores in Cagayan de Oro. Let the actual prices of our products tell the people how affordable our products are," Bagaloyos told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

AT LEAST five memorial eco-parks and shrines will soon rise in Cagayan de Oro as two lawmakers passed a legislative measure for this purpose.

Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez (2nd district, Cagayan de Oro) and Representative Maximo B. Rodriguez Jr. (Abante Mindanao party-list) said these gardens would be a constant reminder for everybody to always take care of the environment.

“Memorial gardens are needed to be built in the areas that were most damaged and where many of the deaths occurred, which are now declared as ‘no build zones’,” Rodriguez said.

House Bill 5859 seeks to establish five memorial eco-parks and shrines in Sitio Cala-Cala, Barangay Macasandig; Isla de Oro, Barangays 13 and 15; Isla Delta, Isla Bugnaw and Isla Baksan, all in Barangay Consolacion.

Under the bill, these memorial gardens should be planted with trees and grasses and an obelisk tower in the center as a symbol and reminder of the people who lost their lives, missing and injured during Tropical Storm Sendong that devastated Cagayan de Oro last December 16, 2011.

The bill also appropriated an amount of P100 million for the landscaping, planting of trees and grass, as well as the building of the obelisk towers.

Rodriguez said appropriations for the dredging of the river, construction of river walls and the elevation of the parks is also included in the annual appropriations of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

House Bill 5859 also seeks for the creation of an inter-agency Council -- composed of the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as chairperson, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC); Department of Tourism (DOT); Department of Public Works and Highways; the Office of the Representative of the 2nd District and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro -- to manage and maintain these memorial gardens.

Once acted into law, the memorial gardens and shrines will be known as “CDO Sendong Memorials.”

Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente Emano expressed support to the establishment of the memorial eco-parks and shrines.

Earlier, Emano announced his plan of converting Isla de Oro into a tree park and put up a basketball court in the area.

He even plan to transfer the night café and night market in the area but still had to consult the vendors.
