power shortage in Mindanao is "artificial"....meaning the decision makers has personal/business agenda....

na shock pud kos update daah! nag ingon si uncle emano kung when mag start ug construct kanang project? what name? anyway, sa tancha pud nko, if this project of 3 midrise and 1 high rise, it might be mixed-used in some other way.. kung duol sa magnum radio, and if this is a hotel and condo, premier area would likely be at the old acsat building and knights of columbus.. bcin lang... duol raman jud sya sa centrio..

I like the design and color of Market City. But when i visited the building and the bus terminal area last Sunday, the floor was dirty and the terminal area messy. when can we learn? Isn't it the responsibility of the building operator to maintain its sanitation and cleanliness? This is a new and modern building but with old and bad habits.

I fully agree with you boju. the present incumbent Secretary is corrupt. He is favoring a certain group at the expense of clean, vast source and efficient energy through Solar power. He would always say it is expensive to put up a solar plant and it is not what we need because the power is only available during daytime and peak time is only in the early evening.

With these statements he is deceiving the people and media. Based on the Philippine law, a solar energy's cost shall be shared with all consumers in the country. In effect, the cost will be minimal per consumer. It is not true that the peak time for electricity usage is at the early evening only, we have peak times in the morning towards early afternoon.

Bidding for Modern Traffic Lights System Soon
— APRIL 12, 2012
http://cagayandeorocityinformationoffice.wordpress.com/2012/04/12/bidding-for-modern-traffic-lights-system-soon/

Bidding for the implementation of the city’s traffic light modernization project is in the offing.

Mayor Vicente Emano said this will involve the installation of about 50 state-of-the-art traffic lights with closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) in key intersections in the city.

“Segurado na kana kay aduna nay gahin ang atong dakbayan alang sa pagpatuman sa maong proyekto,” the mayor announced in a press statement.

The mayor deferred the bidding for the project due to the calamity that hit the city last December. However, he said this will take place soon, as the modernization of the city’s traffic system is among the priorities of the city government this year.

I'm favor of the translation of Loading/Unloading signs to Bisaya, kay murag pagtan-aw nako ang common people wala pa kasabot ana nga sign. Here in CDO, you can literally hitch on the middle of the street which then causes adhesive traffic. Up-to-date gadgets are no use if the citizens are uneducated about traffic rules.

Mayor approves casino entry in Oro
sunstar (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cagayan-de-oro/local-news/2012/04/17/mayor-approves-casino-entry-oro-216779)
By Stephanie Viovicente-Berganio
Tuesday, April 17, 2012

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano reportedly expressed his support to the possible entry of casino in the city.

Emano said three casino operators from China, Israel and Malaysia have expressed interest to operate in Cagayan de Oro City.

He said, however, only businessmen and tourists who own passports can enter the casino.

Emano also said the “entrance fee” will have to be “higher” to regulate the entry of people inside the casino.

“Aside from the beautiful scenery that our city’s tourism has to offer, there will also be a casino where businessmen and tourists could enjoy,” Emano said.

However, several religious people from the Catholic Church expressed objection to the plan.

Gina Tomawis told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that it is not the casino that will help boost the city’s tourism.

“If boosting our tourism industry is really the goal, there are a lot of destinations that could be developed,” she said.

Emano said, however, that he respects the stand of the Catholic Church on the matter.

But he appealed to Church officials to allow the operation of casino in the city.

But he appealed to Church officials to allow the operation of casino in the city.

i think its about time that the church should agree on this matter.

Govt body to monitor Oro construction sites
Wednesday, 18 April 2012 00:00

WITH the rise of the construction industry in Region 10, particularly in Cagayan de Oro City, the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) of the Department of Labor and Employment will step up its monitoring of construction sites. Engineer Rynie T. Zamuco, unit head of the OSHC-Cagayan de Oro extension offi ce, said the construction industry is the fourth industry with the most accidents in the country. Leading the way is manufacturing, followed by agriculture and wholesale/retail. Zamuco said construction activities in Cagayan de Oro are being monitored to ensure the safety of workers. Cagayan de Oro has at least four major construction activities including hotels and malls. Zamuco added that DOLE's Department Order 13 series of 1998 gives teeth to the monitoring and implementation of safety in the work environment as well as prosecution for violators.

City to develop 8-hectare relocation site
Thursday, April 19, 2012

THE City Government is fast-tracking the development of an eight-hectare relocation site in Sitio Macapaya, Barangay Camaman-an for victims of Tropical Storm Sendong in the second district with the acquisition of an P80-million fund.

On Sunday, a groundbreaking was held for the relocation site, to be called Bayanihan Village, considered to be the first resettlement site being undertaken by the National Housing Authority (NHA) in the second district, said Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said he secured P60 million and an additional P20 million from Abante Mindanao party-list Representative Maximo B. Rodriguez for the relocation site.

He said the money will be coursed through the NHA, adding at least 900 houses will be built at the site.

MANILA, Philippines—Property giant Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) plans to roll out 67 new projects worth P90 billion this year as part of its “unprecedented” expansion to new locations and new market segments in the country. The expansion is in line with ALI’s target to chalk up an annual net profit in excess of P10 billion by 2014, equivalent to a return on equity of 15 percent, top officials said.
“We’re moving to a period of record expansion,” ALI chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala said during the company’s stockholders’ meeting on Wednesday. “This is the period of our most rapid expansion.”
ALI president Antonino Aquino said the P90 billion worth of projects to be launched this year would be supported by a P37-billion capital spending budget. He added that the property business continued to be robust, with the first three months of the year turning out as a “very good” quarter.
“Based on indications to date, the numbers all continue to look very good relative to the demand. We’ve seen that the demand for our products remains very high and this will translate to positive results. Also, interest rates remain favorable, that means they (buyers) can refinance,” Aquino said.
As part of its expansion plans, ALI will double its landbank over the medium term from 4,000 hectares at present. Aquino said the “Nuvali” eco-development in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, for instance should be replicated in areas like Cavite, Pampanga and Rizal.
Of the 67 projects to be launched this year, 50 will be in the residential segment spread out across the five brands and each of the brands will be a mix of both vertical and horizontal developments spread out all over the country, Aquino said. “It’s the best way to be able to diversify.”
About 26,000 residential units will be launched this year, higher than the 20,000 brought to the property market last year. “It will basically reflect the economic pyramid; in terms of number of units, the bulk will consist of Amaia and Bella Vita (the low-cost) brands but obviously, Avida, Alveo and ALP [Ayala Land Premier] will continue to ramp up,” ALI senior vice president Bobby Dy said.
Dy said ALI’s shopping mall group would also bring to the market 200,000 square meters of leasable area while 100,000 sqm of office space would be added to its portfolio this year.
On the shopping mall front, three new retail developments will open this year – the redevelopment of Glorietta 1, Centrio in Cagayan de Oro and Harbor Point in Subic, which all together will add a little over 140,000 sqm in leasable area.
For the hotel business, the 349-room Holiday Inn hotel will open in Glorietta Center this year while three boutique hotels under the brand “Kukun” will be completed in Bonifacio Global City, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.
On ALI’s tourism/resort portfolio, the Pangalucian Island in El Nido will start full operations by October this year.
During Wednesday’s meeting, shareholders also approved a capital restructuring program that will give it leeway to accept more foreign investors as common shareholders.
Shareholders approved the redemption of 13 billion in outstanding non-voting preferred shares and the issuance of the same number of voting preferred shares. This will be done through a stock rights offering, which will give each common shareholder the right to buy one voting preferred share for each share held at a par value of 10 centavos.
This capital restructuring will be to comply with the regulatory requirement on Filipino ownership following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that non-voting shares do not count as equity when computing for a company’s Filipino ownership level.
“Before the SC ruling, because of non-voting preferred shares, our foreign ownership is down to 20 percent but with the SC ruling, it has gone up to 39 percent. We’re not technically in breach but we’re very close,” said ALI chief finance officer Jaime Ysmael.

assuming that cdo's percentage growth remains constant and more investors will pour their coffers here, i think we can expect to see 30 or more high rises in the next seven to eight years. when i said constant, i meant that the growth rate wont increase. actually, when business is booming, the probability of increasing is more likely the outcome and the probability of plummeting is low. in short, expect to see 30 or more high rises within the next seven to eight years.

MANILA, Philippines - The sun shines on the golden city of Cagayan de Oro as residents get back on their feet and sow seeds for the future. Property developer Robinsons Land Corp., thru one of its four residential brands, Robinsons Homes, has launched a campaign that aims to highlight the importance of taking care of the environment with its tree-planting program called “Our Roots, Our Homes - Planting Trees for a Greener Philippines.”

The event was held recently at Richmond Hills, in Barangay Camaman–an, Cagayan de Oro and was attended by Robinsons Homes executives headed by business unit general manager Joan Cosico; local government officials headed by City Councilor Atty. Ramon Tabor; along with the JV partners Rosauro Dongallo Jr., Beverly Panlilio, Ernesto Panlilio, Emmanuel Dongallo and Josephine Tabor, accredited sellers, the Richmond Hills Homeowners Association, and selected students from the Liceo de Cagayan University.

Already on its second leg, the “Our Roots, Our Homes” event in CDO allowed for over 150 Knife Acacia saplings to be planted in the eight-hectare subdivision. In addition to its drought-resistant feature, the tree also blooms fragrant, bright yellow rounded flowers that form in clusters – making it one of the most attractive trees to plant. Since the Knife Acacia grows quickly, residents are sure to feel the advantage of living amidst nature.

“The tree was chosen to benefit the neighborhood and complement the landscape of our master planned subdivision development,’ said Cosico, “This is our gift to the homeowners as now, they will be responsible for taking care of the trees, a challenge they welcomed as they believe that this is an investment for their future.” For the community, the tree planting event is indeed a timely occurrence as they seek to rebuild and enrich the place where they make their homes.

Richmond Hills

Richmond Hills is an American-themed community that features well-landscaped open spaces, village amenities such a multi-purpose activity court, jogging path and a clubhouse that can accommodate up to 100 people for any gathering. Sagpulon Falls Update, 20 Apr 2012

niadto mi sa Sagpulon Falls today with the family (old and kids). Very Disappointing.
- the 5.8km road from the highway is so bumpy and is NOT properly maintained. There are small sections of concrete road but that's only about 10-15%.
- the lady (perhaps the caretaker) told us that no one is allowed to use the almost falling apart human suspension bridge. If we insist to go to the falls then we have to cross the creek which is impossible for a couple of 80 y.o. and the children with us.
- there is no more swimming pool because is was washed out during heavy rain a long time ago. Only the "linaw", the pool in the waterfall drop zone is left for swimming.
- there is a warning that no one is allowed to swim closer to the waterfalls because there is frequent rock fall.

Lessons Learned:
- If you want to destroy your vehicle then drive it on this road.
- do not take old people and children on this trip.
- do not go there until they fix the road, fix the human suspension bridge and build a swimming pool.

Wala nay maintenance lugar. Naguba siguro sa baha...

The ‘other’ top Philippine cities
By: Tessa R. Salazar
Philippine Daily Inquirer
11:01 pm | Friday, April 20th, 2012

The previous weeks, Inquirer Property revealed the Philippine cities ideal for young professionals, as chosen by several property analysts. These cities were: Metro Cebu, where the investments and opportunities have consistently been pouring in due to its strategic location; Taguig (Bonifacio Global City), whose city chic, modern and sporty qualities attract the international community; Makati, the “traditional business district” where most businesses thrive and mature property developments are located; Muntinlupa (Alabang), where the first live-work-play concept was put to action; The Clark-Subic corridor, for the availability of developable land, as well as a superior level of infrastructure links (air, land and water transport); Santa Rosa, Laguna, the investors’ favorite; and Davao City, for its relatively secure environment.
Inquirer Property also laid down the criteria for the ideal cities, as explained by property analysts. These are: the cost of living index; affordability of rental and home ownership; a well master-planned community; accessibility; job opportunities; connectivity; security and rapid emergency response; empowerment of property buyers, environment and air quality; diversity for global market; and policies to attract outside capital.

In the conclusion of the series, Inquirer Property has sifted through readers’ e-mail. Now, in no particular order, here are the most-liked cities, fresh from the inbox: Dumaguete, Ormoc, Cebu, Lucena City, Manila, San Carlos (Negros Occidental), Cagayan de Oro, Puerto Princesa and Bacolod.

“I have lived in Manila and Cebu and the fast-paced lifestyle really eats up your time. Here in the provinces, you have more time to do what you want—be it spending time with your friends and family, your hobbies, interest, health, business. All these at a fraction of a cost if you do it in Manila or Cebu,” wrote a male resident of Ormoc City in his late 30s (name withheld upon request), who has four kids. He lists his priorities as “personal time,” schools, peace and order, Internet connectivity (a must, because he engages in online stock market trading) and proximity to major cities.

THE FAST-PACED lifestyle in Manila eats up your time according to a reader.
“Right now, I live in Ormoc, but ideally I would want to live in Dumaguete City. It’s also my first choice followed by Ormoc, Cebu, then Manila. I have lived in all four of these cities.”

An e-mail from a reader who claims to be Sabino Dapat (Sabino.Dapat@cpkelco.com), the past president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and chair of the Cebu Business Council of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, wrote: “There are ongoing advocacies on improving the infrastructure of Cebu to address the increasing tourism business not only for Cebu City but the whole province. The study is granted by the Research Education and Institutional Development Foundation. There is also another advocacy proposed for Mega Cebu. If you come down to it, all these advocacies will harmonize itself, as we move forward toward the future.”

The e-mail cited the advocacy of a multisector group called the Movement for Livable Cebu. On May 18, 2011, the Cebu Daily News published a story on the signing of a memorandum of agreement during the launch of Public-Private Partnership for

Better Infrastructure, or PBI, in Cebu. The story indicated that the REID Foundation would work in partnership with the Cebu Business Club to advocate for better infrastructure in Cebu. REID Foundation would provide technical assistance through a series of workshops on the national and regional economy, national budget, and procurement, among others. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through The Asia Foundation (TAF) is supporting these activities.

JG, who e-mailed that he is a New York-based Filipino, wrote: “It is not only the amenities itself but the originality and the scope of what a visitor wants to see and feel encompasses the validity of an ideal city. It is not about how tall the buildings are, or the presence of technology.”

In his e-mail, he recommended the inclusion of San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, for being the “biggest little city in the Philippines.”

THE REID Foundation advocates the infrastructure improvement in Cebu.
“The city has been the sugar hub during the Magsaysay era, and now a booming aquaculture industry. Glimpses of the past can still be seen, such as houses during World War 2, the Azcona and Atienza ancestral home, the Jovencio Broce mansion and the famous San Carlos Milling Co.”

Dominic Romero wrote that Lucena City should be in the top 20 cities in the Philippines.

Romero wrote that “it has the lowest crime rate compared to its counterparts around the country, has the most number of financial and educational institutions, is far less crowded, excellent water and electricity supplies, and a booming real estate and leisure industry. It is also far less polluted and more convenient in terms of public infrastructures.”

Clean, green Puerto Princesa, CDO
Reader Tony S., who claims to have traveled halfway around the world, said the best livable clean cities in the country are Puerto Princesa in Palawan and Cagayan de Oro.

The best urban livable cities are Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao. The other ideal cities with the best urban lifestyle options are Bacolod and Dumaguete.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 19, 2012) – Explore Cagayan De Oro, the City of Golden Friendship “Where you’re unstoppable experience begins” - this was how the City Vice Mayor Ceasar Ian Acenas, who represented Mayor Vicente Emano, during the privilege speech in the opening of Travel Exchange (Travex) 2012.

CDO, Iligan get P69-M fund for climate change adaptation
By Kristine L. Alave
Philippine Daily Inquirer
8:31 pm | Friday, April 20th, 2012

MANILA, Philippines—Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities, the two coastal urban centers in northern Mindanao devastated by Tropical Storm “Sendong” four months ago, have been given a P69-million fund to help them prepare for extreme weather events brought by climate change.

The United Nations Development Programme and the Australian government are extending financial assistance to both cities under Project Climate Twin Phoenix, according to UNDP country director Renaud Meyer.

“As the country faces a future of increasing disaster risks from a rapidly changing climate, UNDP Philippines’ programmatic / integrated scientific approach to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management becomes even more critical in mainstreaming these concerns into relevant planning and decision-making processes from the national to the city/municipality level,” Meyer said.

The amount will be used to assess the disaster vulnerabilities of the two cities and the municipalities surrounding the Cagayan de Oro and Mandulog river basins to geological, meteorological and met-induced hazards due to climate change.

NOT good news. decision makers didn't bother to calculate the power generated (which is tiny for a mini-hydro) VS Tourism Loses.

Putting a tiny mini-hydro is not worth it.

I think what theyre building is a run-of-river hydro, which means no dams will be built and the water volume from upstream will not be deminished downstream

For the environment that's a good news, but the problem is, an ROR Hydroelectricity is considered an unfirm source of power, meaning an ROR has little or no capacity for energy storage kai nag depende raman cya sa seasonal river flows.(Correct me if i'm wrong :)).

FOREIGN investors who want to establish casinos in the city would need to convince local Roman Catholic leaders first before city hall gives them the green light, Mayor Vicente Emano said yesterday. Emano said this as he revealed that investors from China, Israel and Malaysia have expressed interest to operate casinos in the city. "I told them to talk to the Church. If the Church will agree, then we will allow the casinos," said Emano. But in city hall's official blog site, Emano was quoted to have expressed his support to the planned casino operations here. He was also quoted as appealing to local Roman Catholic Church leaders to allow casinos.
The local archdiocese has long been opposed to casino operations in this predominantly Roman Catholic city. In the '90s, the archdiocese and local officials, including thenmayor Pablo Magtajas, spearheaded rallies and pressured the government to stop casino operations at Pryce Plaza Hotel. They succeeded. "The casino will only be for businessmen and tourists. Kung adunay casino, kadto lang mga negosyante ug turista nga adunay pasaporte ang makasulod sa casino ug padak-an ang bayronon sa pultahan aron kadtong lang mga tawo nga makagahum ang makasulod," Emano said.
Emano said he would give the archdiocese the prerogative to decide on the issue and said he would not consider it an "inter ference on the par t of the Church on the government." "Unless they can convince the Church, then I am not allowing any casino to operate in the city. Ther e is no such thing as a separation of the Church and State. Actually, We have been careful about that. Although there is such a doctrine, but cer tainly we know that it is the government that works with the Church," Emano said.
"This is not [going to be] an inter ference on the par t of the Church. In fact, they are tr ying to help us find the way," said Emano without elaborating. The local Roman Catholic archdiocese recently found itself sharply criticizing city hall over its hard-line stance on mining. Archbishop Ledesma has repeatedly asked local of ficials to stop the mining operations but his pleas fell on deaf ears. Fr. Nathaniel Lerio, director of the Social Action Center of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, said the Roman Catholic Church is against all forms of gambling.
Lerio however said he appreciated Emano's recent pronouncement that he was giving the local Roman Catholic leadership a say on the brewing casino proposals. "We are honored and grateful that the mayor has given us priority to give our position on the issue," Lerio said. "The Church has a long histor y of opposing any form of gambling, especially casinos." Lerio said he would bring the matter to the attention of Archbishop Antonio Ledesma. He hinted that the archdiocese would issue an of ficial statement on the proposed casino operations here.

MANILA, Philippines - Puregold Price Club Inc. grew its net income by 24.5 percent in the first quarter this year to P469 million as it registered higher sales.
In a financial report submitted to regulators yesterday, Puregold said net sales rose 30.3 percent to P10.74 billion, primarily due to higher turnover as a result of new store openings in the last three quarters of 2011.
Puregold had a total branch network of 101 as of March 31, 2012, comprising 62 hypermarkets, 28 supermarkets and 11 discounters. These new stores accounted for 17.7 percent of total net sales for the period under review.
Operating income amounted to P633 million, up 18.6 percent from P534 million. Other income jumped 27.9 percent to P288 million.
On the other hand, operating expenses shot up 38 percent to P1.4 billion from P1.01 billion, largely due to the company’s expansion and renovation of old stores.
Puregold is expected to sustain its upward trajectory for the rest of the year, especially with the acquisition of the upscale S&R Membership Shopping Club through a P16.5-billion share swap transaction.
The move was intended to consolidate Chinese-Filipino businessman Lucio Co.’s retailing businesses under one umbrella.
Under the deal, the Co family will own approximately 77 percent of Puregold’s outstanding shares. The planned consolidation will expand Puregold’s current market base, enhance shareholder value, and achieve economies of scale.
S&R currently has six branches located in Bonifacio Global City, Alabang, Congressional Ave. in Quezon City, Aseana-Baclaran, Cebu and Pampanga.
Puregold aims to double its store network by 2015 as it continues its expansion and seize new markets in the Visayas and Mindanao.

"dili maapektuhan ang WWR if ever naay dam for hydropower sa Tumalaong. Concept sa hydropower facility is to construct a WEIR (Dam), divert the flow to pass through the TURBINE sa POWERHOUSE then return to the river. As shown in the pic, Tumalaong joins CDO River near the end point of WWR. Also, IMO, the river flow of Tumalaong R. will not be affected at this junction because I believe the POWERHOUSE is located upstream where the water is already returned to the river."

DOTC sets bid for P500-M airport equipment in May
http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/home/economy/26366-dotc-sets-bid-for-p500-m-airport-equipment-in-may

THURSDAY, 26 APRIL 2012 20:11 LENIE LECTURA / REPORTER
The transportation department on Thursday announced it will put up for bidding next month the P500-million airport x-ray screening and security equipment contract.

This, said Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas, aims to improve security in different airports in the country with commercial flights by installing, upgrading and layering of security screening of passengers.

At present, there are 45 airports with scheduled commercial flights. Of these airports only 21 have adequate airport screening. To standardize the security screening in all of these 45 airports, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is considering the procurement of screening equipment that will be installed in 31 airports.

“These x-rays will be installed in places where there are no screening or where even if there is equipment, but because of the volume of passengers, they need additional equipment,” Roxas said. “We will make them all have two layers of screening just like what we have in Naia [Ninoy Aquino International Airport].”

Items for procurement include 21 sets of initial security checkpoint (ISCP) screening equipment and 25 sets of final security checkpoint (FSCP) screening equipment.

The airports to be installed with the 21 ISCPs are Puerto Princesa, Kalibo, Tagbilaran, Davao, Laoag, Iloilo, Tacloban, Cotabato, Dipolog, Cagayan de Oro, Marinduque, Busuanga, Masbate, Calbayog, Catarman, Jolo, Basco, Sanga-sanga, Siargao, Cauayan and Ozamis.

The 25 FSCPs are Puerto Princesa, Kalibo, Tagbilaran, Davao, two in Laoag, General Santos, Zamboanga, San Jose, Roxas, Tacloban, Pagadian, Dipolog, Cagayan de Oro, Marinduque, Busuanga, Masbate, Calbayog, Catarman, Jolo, Basco, Sanga-sanga, Siargao, Cauayan and Ozamiz.

The DOTC will also procure nine units of x-ray inspection systems for cargo screening.

These cargo x-rays will be installed in Puerto Princesa, Kalibo, General Santos, Zamboanga, Iloilo, Roxas, Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro and Clark.

The DOTC will also buy 46 units of walk-through metal detectors, 92 units of hand-held metal detectors, 59 sets of CCTV (closed-circuit television) IP (Internet protocol) surveillance system, 55 units of UPS system, 55 sets of AVR system and 55 sets of ergonomic chair for the x-ray operator.

This project is set for completion by the end of the year.

The agency also announced plans to construct and rehabilitate approximately 1,017 public toilets in its attached agencies, including airports, seaports and train stations nationwide.

At present, agencies under the DOTC have a total of 1,224 public toilets. Under the DOTC program, 786 of these will be rehabilitated, while 231 new ones will be built.

Roxas also said to reduce the cost of building these toilets, the DOTC is resorting to bulk purchases. Instead of awarding the project to just one contractor, it will be bidded out into several lots, allowing more suppliers to participate in the procurement.

For instance, the project will have a package for major fixture, where providers can bid to supply the urinals, water closets, lavatories and faucets needed for the toilets. This package alone enables the DOTC to reduce the cost from P66.6 million to P40.1 million.

There will also be savings from the procurement of civil works. Before, the DOTC used to spend P396 million but the agency is looking at spending only P160.7 million.

“In the past, civil works for construction of toilets cost P35,000 per square meter. But because we are using bulk purchase for this project, civil works was reduced to about P18,000 per square meter,” Roxas said.

One hundred companies, he added, are interested to participate in the multibillion information-technology (IT) project of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

“We are happy that more than a hundred participants showed up, expressing very keen interest in this project,” Roxas said.

The bids and awards committee of the DOTC conducted on Wednesday a pre-bid conference for the LTO, IT project. Representatives of major IT firms here and abroad attended the conference, including those from IBM, SAP, HP, Oracle and Indra.

The LTO, IT project is a seven-year program with an approved budget of P8.2 billion.

wala gi-salir ang LOW quality nga riverbank wall pag-agi sa Sendong...which I said earlier before Sendong.

bisan wala pay Sendong kanang LOW quality nga wall dili giyapon na mo last. Nag-sakay ko ug taxi last Tuesday kay gi-repair ang sakyanan. Ingon sa taxi driver nga ang mga current gov't project karon like road/hi-way concreting ug uban pa mo last lang daw ug just over 1 year guba na dayon. Low quality daw pero dili matawag ug back-job kay lapas na man sa 1 year...He maybe only a taxi driver pero I agree with him most of his observations.
