The promotion includes the sparring for every student from green belt to black belt. It’s nice to watch an actual ceremony of the martial arts than to watch in the movie. If you there you can say that its nice to know martial arts and to become part of them. The ceremony includes the belting which is the most important when you receiving a belt because you are Baptist as the pure karate-ka. There is a part there that they must protect their selves for the attack of their instructor and also their visitors, which is part of the ritual of the martial arts. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/sports/DCP_4330.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/sports/DCP_4318.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/sports/DCP_4325.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/sports/DCP_4329.jpg This the actual belting of the club which they must be smash by the belt according to the color of there belt. The first line are mix with green, brown, and black belt while in the second line are all yellow belt which the first belt in the club. This one part of there promotion which is the student must fight each other to try there ability in martial arts. In the picture there one on one sparring, 3 on one, and the last is 4 on one which 1 agaist 4 persons. The sparring show in the actual happend in our daily lives. It's nice to know martial arts coz you can depend your self althoug you dont have a weapon. bariQ February 8th, 2008, 06:59 AM murag man initiation sa frat  bariQ February 8th, 2008, 07:00 AM eh si farirah? ph_matrix February 8th, 2008, 07:01 AM paymate :lol::lol: , (joking) eh si farirah? GearX February 8th, 2008, 07:07 AM Mindanao Aikido Propagation Center (http://www.geocities.com/aikido_cagayan_de_oro/overview.htm) C/O AXIS GYM, ROXAS STREET CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, 9000 PHILIPPINES The Mindanao Aikido Propagation Center. Organizations go through life cycles just like the people who make up of it. They are born, and barring early decline, will eventually grow and mature as they face problems and challenges during the different phases of its life. Most of the time, these are the reasons for its early decline. And if the decline is not reversed the organization dies. The Mindanao Aikido Propagation Center (MAPC), just like any other organizations, has gone through a life cycle of its own. It has had its share of good times and bad times. But unlike any other organizations that experienced institutional hardships, MAPC was able to overcome the challenges that came its way and the result is more than 30 years of committed service to the propagation of the art and discipline of Aikido. MAPC HISTORY MAPC was founded in a time when Aikido was a budding martial art newly introduced in the Philippines by Mr. Benjamin Galarpe. After MAPC's establishment in 1971 under a different name, the organization has undergone major changes that significantly contributed to its development and evolution. MAPC was originally known as the Cagayan de Oro Branch of the Manila Aikido Club (MAC). MAC -Cagayan de Oro started with only three students.. As the Aikido art obtained increasing popularity among Filipinos, the average number of students rose to 15 a month. See MAC logo. When Ceferino Valdez Sensei succeeded Sensei Templanza in 1972 as President of the MAC, he changed the name of the national organization to Philippine Aikikai. MAC-Cagayan de Oro was changed to Philippine Aikikai - Cagayan de Oro. See Phil. Aikikai Logo. Ten years later, in December 1982, John Tenegra Sensei became the President of the Philippine Aikikai. Upon his assumption to the post, he changed the name of the national organization to Pilipinas Aikido Propagation Association (PAPA). Philippine Aikikai-Cagayan de Oro became the Mindanao Aikido Propagation Association (MAPA). But it was in 1989 when the name MAPC was coined to replace MAPA. See Logo: MAPA & MAPC VISION - MISSION Vision-Mission of the Organization. The Mindanao Aikido Propagation Center (MAPC) is an institution committed to the fulfillment of O' Sensei's dream of promoting peace and harmony in the world by teaching individuals to become better people with a refined wisdom and self-control. In achieving this vision-mission, MAPC is committed to teach individuals the techniques of Aikido and keep their spirit receptive to the deeper meaning behind the techniques. This meaning of promoting peace and harmony is anchored on the moral responsibility of each individual not to injure or harm his fellowmen. MAPC Today and Beyond. More than three decades have passed and MAPC continues to tread the path towards its collective ends. Thanks to all its members who keep the fire of commitment kindle through the years. This burning desire to become instruments for the realization of O' Sensei' s dream of promoting peace and harmony in the world was contributory to the organization's stability and rich history. As it has been for more than thirty years, MAPC continues to teach men and women the principles of Aikido. Classes are held daily at its dojo in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, Philippines. Invitations for demonstrations are received ocassionally by the Center. Recently, MAPC started two special programs: Aikido Training for the Police Officers of Cagayan de Oro City and the first ever Martial Arts Festival conducted in Cagayan de Oro City. The journey towards its goals may be bumpy but MAPC was able to rise over the seemingly unsurpassable tight situations it experienced all through the years because of the members' assiduousness to the art and with each other. More than three decades have passed and MAPC is continually striving to get from where they are right now into where they would like to go. An endless cycle indeed. . . . MAPC DOJO LOCATION The Mindanao Aikido Propagation Center is a non-profit sports club, founded in 1971 by Alexander Y. Javier Sensei. Javier, Yondan (4th dan) FOUNDER & CHIEF INSTRUCTOR The MAPC was founded by Mr. Alexander Y. Javier in 1971. Sensei Alex, as his friends and students fondly call him, was born in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines on April 24, 1944. At the age of 20, Sensei Alex began his journey in the realm of martial arts by taking up karate lessons while working in Metro Manila. He reached the blackbelt rank after four years of intensive training. After karate, he explored the Filipino martial art of Arnis. He studied the techniques of Arnis in Cagayan de Oro City under the instruction of a certain Mr. Moncal. In 1970, he went back to Manila after staying in Cagayan de Oro for some time where he joined the Manila Aikido Club and trained under Mr. John Templanza Sensei. He deligently practiced two to three sessions everyday. Because of his hardwork and unwavering dedication to the art, he was given a spot promotion to 1st kyu on July 20, 1971. At this point, he was also allowed by Mr. Templanza to handle classes for two weeks where Sensei Alex was extensively evaluated as an instructor. Later he was promoted to Shodan (Philippine Chapter) and was allowed to wear a hakama. As a shodan, he was authorized to teach Aikido and promote students up to the 1st kyu. It was in 1986 when Sensei Alex finally realized his dream of becoming a yudansha holder after taking the shodan examinations conducted by the Hombo Dojo in Manila through Seki Shoji Sensei (6th Dan) and Kobayashi Yukimitsu Sensei (3rd Dan). He was supposed to take the shodan examinations administered by the Hombu Dojo in 1971 but failed to do so because of financial constraints. Today at age 56, Sensei Alex holds a 4th degree blackbelt belt, (yondan) and serves as the Chief Instructor of the Mindanao Aikido Propagation Center. bariQ February 8th, 2008, 07:13 AM ^^ sana stewardess nalang ang conductor :D GearX February 8th, 2008, 07:16 AM :applause::applause::applause: guess yan sinakyan ni ph going to Butuan ph_matrix February 8th, 2008, 07:18 AM yup, yon sinakyan ko from bxu-cdo, naa ko cdo ron ,320PHP iya plete kato daan is 280PHP. :) :applause::applause::applause: guess yan sinakyan ni ph going to Butuan GearX February 8th, 2008, 07:21 AM very interesting... murag gusto nako mag gynespeleology  :hahaha: ph_matrix February 8th, 2008, 07:24 AM :ohno::ohno: :):):lol: very interesting... murag gusto nako mag gynespeleology  ph_matrix February 8th, 2008, 07:26 AM For those from Butuan going CDO.. Tadeo/city Information Office The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) will undertake a major re-organization of its administrative and operations divisions that will include the revival of the cops-on-bicycles. P/Senior Supt. Isagani F. Genabe Jr., disclosed that under his leadership, the COCPO will re-activate the bicycle and motorcycle patrol cops to boost police visibility in all areas of the city. The acting city police director said that the COCPO will intensify its active checkpoint operations for vehicles coming in and going out of the city in coordination with the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army as well as deploy police personnel in the city’s malls. Genabe hoped that with the establishment of police checkpoints in strategic places in the city, residents as well as tourists and investors will feel safe and secure as they go about their daily activities here. “We are strengthening our strong points to stop gambling, drugs, theft and other organized crimes in the city,” Genabe said. The acting city police director likewise called on the active involvement of the tri-media in the campaign against criminality by being vigilant in reporting illegal or suspicious activities in the community. The COCPO will also conduct a weekly barangay visitation to discuss peace and order and security issues concerning the barangays. Early in his assumption into office, acting city police director Genabe was urged by Mayor Jaraula to ensure that Cagayan de Oro will continue to be a safe and peaceful place to live for its people and visitors. Fuentes/city Information Office City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula congratulated the top three winners of the recently-concluded ‘Search for the Best Oil Painting on Landscape, People’s Life and Scenery of Cagayan de Oro” which was jointly sponsored by the Promote CDO Foundation and the city government. Mayor Jaraula and Promote CDO president Engr. Ruben A. Vegafria handed over a total of P65,000 in cash and trophies to the winners during a simple awarding rites held at the mayor’s office recently. Local artist Nicolas Aca, Jr. emerged as the grand winner after his piece entitled “Bridging Gaps”, a panoramic view of the majestic Ysalina Bridge or formerly known as the Carmen Bridge, got the nod of the panel of judges. He received a cash prize of P30,000 plus trophy. Michael Bacol was adjudged as the first runner-up and took home P20,000 in cash prize plus trophy. His winning piece “August 28 at Cagayan de Oro” is a typical festive atmosphere where Cagayanons pay homage to the city’s patron St. Augustine at the Cathedral Church while visitors and families happily stroll around the nearby Gaston Park. The third top entry entitled “Still While Light Traverse”, was won by Jericho Vamenta who got P15,000 cash prize plus trophy. His work of art depicts the sights and sounds of the famous Night Café and Night Market in Divisoria every Friday and Saturday. The oil painting contest, which was participated in by a total of 17 local artists, is a joint venture of the Promote CDO Foundation, Mayor Jaraula and SM City- Cagayan de Oro which displayed early this week the winning and non-winning entries for public viewing at the mall’s activity center. According to Mayor Jaraula, the winning entries will be sent to the museum of Harbin City in China, the sister city of Cagayan de Oro, in a bid to strengthen and promote the two cities’ relationship on trade and culture. http://www.cagayandeoro.gov.ph/?page=news&id=890 ph_matrix February 8th, 2008, 11:43 AM SM CDO http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj215/itidalgo/02082008929.jpg ph_matrix February 8th, 2008, 11:44 AM SM CDO http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj215/itidalgo/02082008929.jpg donnex February 8th, 2008, 03:18 PM SM CDO http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj215/itidalgo/02082008929.jpg Hi everyone!!!!!!!!!!! The caving congress is an annual activity of the Philippine Speleological Society. Organizers said that outside of Cagayan de Oro, the local governments of Manolo Fortich and Sumilao in the nearby province of Bukidnon would also be hosting some activities of the caving congress. Participants in the event would be introduced to over 80 caves in Bukidnon that have been described as still "unexplored." Speleo Mindanao, Inc. and Conservation & Restoration Exercise, Inc. have partnered with the Department of Tourism and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the seven-day congress. The event is expected to get significant participation from environmentalists as well as those into nature and adventure tourism. The city government said in a statement that it is committed to support the event since Cagayan de Oro is known for its rich cave system. "The richness of the cave system in the city should be promoted and protected at the same time," said city mayor Constantino G. Jaraula. Development of the Calavera, Macahambus, Monigue and Huluga caves will soon start, he added. — Geefe P. FRANCISCO CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – DESPITE its only Nescafe factory in the Philippines located here, Nestle Philippines, Inc. still flatly refuses to give in to the city government’s demands that Nescafe packages in all variants must be labeled that the product is manufactured in Cagayan de Oro City instead of Cabuyao, Laguna – head office of the food giant. Ed Legasto, Nestle Philippines, Inc. senior vice president and concurrent Cagayan de Oro factory manager, pointed out to journalists in a get-together that separate labeling of products would be chaotic and a hassle to the company. “Our product labeling is centralized,” Legasto said and added that this is so because all products from Nestle Philippines, Inc. are shipped not just nationwide but all over Southeast Asia in countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Legasto said that aside from the Laguna and Cagayan de Oro plants, Nestle Philippines, Inc. also operates factories in Lipa City, Batangas and Aurora, Quezon. “To label each Nestle package from the plant where the inside content came from would only create confusion,” he said. Earlier, the city government of Cagayan de Oro had asked Nestle Philippines, Inc. to label all its packaged products processed at their plant in barangay Tablon as “Manufactured in CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY.” Among the Nescafe cooking variants manufactured at the Tablon processing plant are Nescafe Classic, Nescafe 3in1, Nescafe 3in1 Hazelnut, Nescafe 3in1 Choco Fudge and Nescafe 3in1 Vanilla. In a related development, Nestle Philippines, Inc. disclosed the current programs covered in their Cagayan de Oro plant jurisdiction as part of their corporate social responsibility. Legasto said that their Tablon processing plant now has atmospheric boiler which could power up to 24 metric tons of steam per hour to help to create biomass energy and help in attaining energy efficiency. Likewise, Nestle Philippines, Inc. has succeeded in putting up a tilapia fishpond in their premises, proving to everyone that their wastewater dumped into Bigaan river is not toxic. They are also maintaining a two-hectare forest park near their plant in barangay Tablon as well as helping preserving the Agutayan marine sanctuary off the coast of Jasaan town in nearby Misamis Oriental to preserve the marine population and improve the daily catch of the fisherfolk. This marine endeavor is coordinated with marine science students from the University of the Philippines (UP) and the Jesuit-owned Xavier University here. As for someone that works for Nestle, we don't see a reason or what difference it makes by having the products labelled where it was exactly made. For us it would create too much time and a waste of money using valuable resources just to get products relabeled, if its going to make us money, why would we do it?. Jolina, Ogie and Wyngard are the judges in the local version of the world-famous reality talent search from FremantleMedia. In an exclusive interview, Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior VP for Entertainment TV, pointed out that the judges’ “two-pronged” role was very important: “They tell the contestant whether they’re good or not, and they influence the viewers’ vote.” Credibility For this reason, Fremantle had put a premium on credibility in choosing the three jurors from a list presented by the Kapuso network. Another crucial consideration was whether prospective judges were willing to devote the next eight months to “Idol,” which premieres in April and wraps up in August. “I wanted [singer] Regine Velasquez to be a judge, but she’s doing a series of concerts in the US,” Galvante said. “Jolina gave up an afternoon soap.” The final Idol trio is a motley crew, Galvante pointed out. “As an artist and record promoter, Wyngard represents the business side of the industry,” Galvante explained. “As singer-songwriter-producer, Ogie recognizes talent.” Galvante predicted that Magdangal, as the “voice of youth,” would be a revelation. “She’s spunky. [And] kids look up to her. Hopefully, they will listen if she says singing is not for them.” Surprise Tracy agreed with Galvante: “I still regarded her as the teenybopper from ‘Ang TV,’ but she surprised me in Cagayan de Oro.” Magdangal herself said that she made sure she’d speak her mind, that she would not to be swayed by her fellow jurors. “I shouldn’t feel intimidated, though Wyngard and Ogie are more experienced than I am.” Alcasid has his own fearless forecast: “Wyngard will steal the show.” “That’s because he’s very straightforward,” Galvante said. “I try my best to be tactful,” Tracy admitted, “but that’s not me.” If Tracy is being cast as the local version of Simon “Mr. Nasty” Cowell and Magdangal as perky cheerleader Paula Abdul, Alcasid acknowledged that he could very well end up as Dog Pound King Randy Jackson. “But the Fremantle consultants urged us not to portray any role... and just be ourselves,” Alcasid said. “I don’t want to imitate anyone,” Magdangal concurred. According to Galvante, Fremantle consultant Bob Cousins sat down with the trio, along with host Raymond Gutierrez, prior to the Cagayan de Oro auditions, to expound on the “Idol” production bible. “I’ve always been brutally honest,” Tracy stated. “If I express an opinion, I stand by it no matter what.” “It’s not an easy job. After the 60th time I said no [to a contestant], I felt drained,” Alcasid admitted. “We saw about a hundred aspirants in Cagayan de Oro,” Tracy recounted. “On the first day, we started at 1 p.m. and ended at 1 a.m.” “But it’s a great learning experience,” Alcasid said. “I’m here [as judge] not just because I’m an expert … I’m also here to learn from my fellow judges and from the contestants as well.” Tearful scene Magdangal was reduced to tears in Cagayan de Oro. “A girl came in with her mom, who was walking with a cane,” Magdangal recalled. “I suddenly remembered my own audition for [Ryan Cayabyab’s youth group] 14K when I was 11. I went through the same thing. I also started from scratch.” Next stop for the “Idol” team is Batangas this week; Iloilo, next week; and then Cebu, Davao, Metro Manila, Dagupan, Clark, and Naga in succeeding weeks. boju2 February 9th, 2008, 05:02 AM CDO's famous Bulua Pottery http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/another%202/Cagayan20de20Oro20Bulua20pots2001.jpg I'm quite expert potter, specially in molding below... kamukha pala siya ni Claudine Barretto http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/another%202/j7.jpg :):) ph_matrix February 9th, 2008, 05:09 AM :lol:, sa overpass ako dumaan ha.. hindi ako nag jaywalking. Although he quit school when show biz beckoned, his background came in handy when it was time to build his dream home in Quezon City. When the interior designers from IBA Design Group submitted their concepts, Mark was able to put in his two cents’ worth. “I designed the spiral staircase,” he recounts. “Originally, the motif was ocean waves. But I suggested circles [as design pattern] on the railings since that corner is semi-circular.” From a slew of shades that the designers presented, Mark chose olive green for the accent wall. Collaborating with the design group was a breeze because the main designer, Ida Inocencio-de los Reyes, is also a backup singer on ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime show “ASAP,” where Mark is a mainstay. “They also had to change the door. I wanted something more modern,” he notes. Ultra-modish, with Asian touch In a nutshell, Mark envisions his pad as ultra-modish, yet minimalist, with a distinct Asian touch evident in the Zen fabric lamps and L-shaped leather sofa. Although he got the couch from a mall, the center table is from Mindanao. “It’s actually a wooden chest, a gift from Gov. Imelda Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte,” he relates. “She gave it to me when Sarah Geronimo and I had a show in her province.” It is not uncommon for Mark as a Viva recording artist to receive all sorts of gifts from friends and fans when he does shows here and abroad. Matryoshka dolls from Russia and an exotic décor from Bali, presents from fans, are displayed in the living room. US-based Pinoys have also gifted him with Oakley shades, a Sony PlayStation Portable and a Nintendo Wii unit. When he’s free from show biz commitments, he usually tinkers with the computer, plays video games with his brothers, whips up home-cooked meals or watches concerts of foreign artists on DVD. Georgina Baluyut, Ida’s co-designer, says that Mark conceptualized his bed’s brown padded leather headboard. “The headboard features hidden book compartments,” says Georgina. “He wants his room to look modern and Asian-inspired at the same time.” Mark the budding designer also indulges in a longtime passion, painting, at home. Several of his oil and pastel art works are displayed in his bedroom, where he also set up a telescope he had bought in Chicago. He admits that he’s fond of bringing home souvenirs from his numerous concert tours abroad, which have taken him to places as far as Switzerland and Alaska. Mark was also insistent about building a pocket garden. “When my house was featured on ‘At Home Ka Dito,’ I requested for an Oriental-style garden with a fountain. Since his two-story, three-room home stands in a tranquil neighborhood, he often feels as if he’s back in Mindanao. It’s like having the best of best worlds, he explains. When he started earning well, he had the family home in Cagayan de Oro renovated. “That’s where my family lives, but they stay here whenever they’re in town. They flew in to watch my ‘Simply Irresistible’ concert at the Aliw Theater.” Mark owns up that he’s currently torn between city and provincial living. “Actually, I hope to settle down and retire in Cagayan de Oro someday. But my work is in Manila. Good thing that I found this city home in a quiet subdivision. It’s like being in the province so I feel right at home, too.” GearX February 9th, 2008, 05:10 AM Wanted on V-Day....sa Lauremar http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/another%202/laur1.jpg ph_matrix February 9th, 2008, 05:11 AM old na sya oi dina na baby..:lol::lol: :ohno: Miss you baby...:cry::cry::cry: ph_matrix February 9th, 2008, 05:14 AM Ok ra diay mag holding hands karon ? http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x287/GearX_2007/another/another%202/pic-11300601010896.jpg boju2 February 9th, 2008, 05:15 AM old na sya oi dina na baby..:lol::lol:   GearX February 9th, 2008, 05:22 AM Mura lang kasi yung sa GlobalChips...most LGUs in NorMin have a supply contract with GlobalChips for office PCs. Hmmm anong nagyari? Hahaha, wala talaga. Pati si PGMA di maka-ek. Isa pa, I don't know why the conservative groups here ipinagbawal rin ang flesh trading. Very idealistic naman! Believe na talaga ako. Before they can do that, dapat tingnan muna nila kung makaprovide ba sila ng alternative jobs for these "night time social workers." :ohno: Farirah February 9th, 2008, 12:47 PM As you know that CdeO has been in need of more hotels; that's why high rise buildings have been proposed nowadays. Anyway during the Steag Meeting, the Germans and other European nationals couldn't find vacancies in the hotels. Puno talaga lahat ang mga hotels. Because of that, they were forced to rent apartments in Tablon. Puno talaga @Alingatong! Bad luck to them since wala na silang mauupahan na hotel when they were here for a meeting few weeks ago. :) Aside of the local, national, and international conventions, which were held few weeks ago, both local and foreign tourists (who weren't here because of meetings, but just to visit, enjoy, and relax) perhaps were the reason why there were no longer vacancies in the hotels. ^^ Alingatong February 9th, 2008, 01:15 PM This scenario only shows that more and more tourists are visiting CDO and NorMin nowadays either for business or leisure or both. Farirah February 9th, 2008, 01:15 PM Guys regarding the construction of MacArthur Marker nowadays, if you want to be famous forever in CdeO or be part of history of CdeO or just for your legacy before death (hehehe), just donate 40,000 pesos (minimum) and you will see your names in the floors, ceilings, and walls once this historical and tourist landmark will be finished this coming March. Thanks! :) Farirah February 9th, 2008, 01:17 PM This scenario only shows that more and more tourists are visiting CDO and NorMin nowadays either for business or leisure or both. Glad you had said that! Anyway, you have a point. Alingatong February 9th, 2008, 01:41 PM Actually, itong scenario na to "parang inuulit na lang". The Nescafe we use here in the UK is from Brazil, but so many of my friends agree that Nescafe produced in the Philippines is far superior tasting. At every turn, literally, the city is improving. On Divisoria there are hardly any vendors. Divisoria/Pabayo was built to be a four lane road. Because of squatting vendors it usually had one lane that four rows of cars and motorellas fought over. Now it’s completely open! Regardless of where you are standing in the city, there is growth in each direction. To the North is yet another nearly finished bridge and a newly dedicated Mac Arthur Marker. To the South is continuing expansion of subdivisions and businesses. To the east there are more new businesses and subdivisions. To the West, Bulua is incredibly improving with a JolliBee and more! Is every hospital expanding? Having not visited one in a while, it might be hard to say, but, certainly there must be shorter lines to see a doctor. There must be no lines at all to wait for a room. Before it was the problem that necessary surgery was delayed because there would be no room to recover. Now maybe even elective surgery is just a matter of choosing which hospital and/or doctor. Rooms certainly couldn’t be in demand. Schools are also growing. Colleges have become universities. And they continue to grow! New colleges are popping up all over. And these new schools are accredited. It used to be that schools would just set their own standards. Now the educational system seems to have a strong command of what requirements need to be met. Schools want to meet the requirements or they won’t get many students. :applause::applause::applause: Ok, there are spots where progress has yet to be dramatic. And we need to work on them, but, at the same time, let’s rejoice in our development! It is too easy and too discouraging to listen to good news and have someone immediately bring up bad news. Bad news should not be ignored. Nor should it be out of proportion. The inner growth that cannot so easily be measured is just as important as easily measurable goals. It’s not so difficult anymore to get a college education for students. But, to be sure they’re growing into mature adults takes more effort. The fact that our schools export so many student abroad is proof that schools are better. The fact that companies want students from Cagayan de Oro says something about our city, our people, our standards. Employers do not just want someone to fill a slot. They want someone to care about their position. Put some of themselves into the work. Since so many call centers are coming to CdO, it seems CdO can provide that. :applause::applause::applause: There is spiritual progress as well. There are many more churches than there used to be. And, there is better cooperation between churches than there used to be. It is much easier now to profess to be Born Again, or Renewed. People mention it unashamedly. Regional Executive Director Maximo O. Dichoso represented the DENR during the signing of the MOA while Holcim Philippines was represented by Engr. Bobby Sajonia, Vice President for Operations. The signing of the MOA was conducted at the DENR Regional Office in Cagayan de Oro City. The R&D Project on the Rehabilitation of Degraded Mining Areas of Holcim Philippines at Lugait, Misamis Oriental was implemented from January 2005 to December 2007. The extension of the project will be from February 1, 2008 to January 31, 2011. The project was implemented by the Ecosystem Research and Development Service (ERDS) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau of DENR. RED Dichoso said that inspite of the utilization of mineral resources Holcim was able to rehabilitate and regreen its compound. “It is a typical company that work on the preservation and protection of the environment, and it practices responsible mining,” he stressed. Dichoso added that the success of the project is clearly manifested through physical improvement in the Holcim compound and through the testimonies coming from the surrounding areas of Lugait. With the extension of the project to three years he is hopeful that it will create more opportunities for the DENR’s Ecosystem Research and Development Service to implement various projects that will further showcase their skills and knowledge. Holcim Philippines VP for Operations Engineer Bobby Sajonia disclosed that the partnership was very productive. He challenged project implementors to continue their partnership with commitment. ERDS Regional Technical Director (RTD) Danilo Cacanindin and Engr. Julius Baliog, Holcim Manager for Mining, Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility and Real Property signed as witness of the agreement. Among others, the project aims to rehabilitate degraded areas using suitable tree species and provide technical assistance in the development and management of forest nursery. With the partnership with DENR, Holcim now boost of a developed lagoon, butterfly lepiary, herbal garden, nursery, orchidarium, establishment of tree and plant yard landscaping and beautification at its plant in Lugait, Misamis Oriental. Under the new agreement, the DENR-ERDS shall continue implementing previous projects/activities. New projects will be introduced like the establishment of a herbarium, nature trail, agro-forestry demonstration area, fishpond and livelihood projects for its beneficiaries under the Social Development Management Program. boju2 February 11th, 2008, 01:57 AM ^^I see... Adorador III FIVE Misamis Oriental provincial board members are attending the 2008 World Agricultural Exposition (World Ag Expo), which opens Monday in California. Provincial Councilors Benedict Lagbas, Peter Unabia, Jimmy Caina, and Arsenio Kho Jr. join the three-day agricultural trade show to gain inputs on dairy farming for the province's growing dairy industry, said Vice Governor Norris Babiera. Held annually in Tulare, California every second week of February, the World Ag Expo is touted to be the world's largest agricultural exposition, with over 100,000 attendees from more than 67 countries. "Board Member Lagbas is attending in his capacity as chairman of the Misamis Oriental Eastern Towns (Misoret) cluster, where most of the province's dairy farms are situated. Engineer Caina is there to look into ways how we can improve the infrastructure component of our local dairy industry," Vice Governor Babiera told Sun.Star. "Other delegates are there to observe," he added. Babiera said the knowledge the participants will be able to bring back will greatly contribute to the local dairy farmers, whose markets are steadily flourishing and carving a niche of their own in cities like Cagayan de Oro. The Misamis Oriental-based Northern Mindanao Federation of Dairy Cooperatives (NMFDC) process milk bars using fresh milk and has regular commercial market in various parts of the region. The National Dairy Institute (NDA) estimates that there are over 10,000 dairy farmers in over 100 cooperatives in the country today. As part of its capability-building for farmers, NDA conducts free courses on basic dairy husbandry, milk quality assurance, home-based processing and other related trainings. The vice governor has also cleared that the participants have agreed to shoulder their own travel costs save for the domestic flights, which were subsidized by the Capitol. They are the SEABA Youth Championship in Malaysia in May and the FIBA Asia under 18 in Iran in September. There are two players who we can actually call our own though they are really from out of town. The first is the reigning UAAP Juniors MVP Joseph Marata. Though the Maratas are from Iligan, Joseph’s mom is from Cagayan de Oro. He actually studied in Cagayan de Oro prior to his transfer to Manila and even played for St. Mary’s School during his High School Freshman year. The other is perhaps the most promising member of the team, Philip Paredes of Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School. More popularly known as “Papot” in the local basketball scene, Paredes is only 15 years old and stands 6’6”. Coach Franz has always been vocal about his interest with Paredes and it now seems that he got his wish. Paredes is originally from Bukidnon but is now studying in Cagayan de Oro. If I remember right, almost all LGUs in Region X (then sans Iligan and Lanao del Norte) wanted to be assured there would be no disruption of air traffic while Laguindingan Airport was being built lest this adversely affect the economic boom in Northern Mindanao. Which is basically a sound idea, provided you can afford it. Even then, the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) was already racking its collective brains to solve this dilemma. Problem was, and still is, seems we can’t afford to undertake the various suggestions to upgrade Lumbia while Laguindingan was being built, simply because we don’t have the money. Just recently, some of the people who have been active in making Cagayan de Oro and Region X what it is today, met with the DOTC to look at ways to solve this dilemma. The proposals included lengthening the runway by 500 meters to allow bigger capacity aircraft to land, runway lights to extend operating hours well into the evening, and upgrading the navigation aids to enable aircraft to land even in inclement weather. The feasibility study for the Laguindingan Airport completed in 1991 already explored the possibility of lengthening the runway in Lumbia to accommodate wide body aircraft. Steven Doerr, senior airport engineer for Louis Berger International, Inc. (LBII) the consulting firm which conducted the feasibility study, master plan, initial geotechnical investigations and environmental impact study for the Laguindingan Airport in 1991, said in a report that Lumbia airport's operational capability can't be improved due to its surrounding high terrain which exceeds International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-recommended standards. Lengthening the runway would not affect these constraints. Doerr stressed LBII previously found that the development of Lumbia Airport as an alternative to a new CIC airport cannot be considered to provide “international standard airport facilities to meet commercial air transport needs,” as required by the LADP's Terms of Reference. While noting that the Lumbia airport can handle the forecast passenger traffic in the medium-term, operationally, night flights or wide-body aircraft operations is impossible and efficient, low-cost cargo operations would be limited (italics mine). Doerr notes that general air operations in the Lumbia airport vicinity are restricted by high terrain, with only very limited maneuvering possible south of the airport. The key constraint in terms of aircraft take-off performance is the high terrain some 2,500 meters south of the airport. This piece of land is approximately 70 meters above the runway elevation, which exceeds ICAO standards for the inner approach slope. The high terrain also affects instrument flight operations. Even with the existence of navigational aids such as the VOR/DME and ILS (Instrument Landing System), present cariers restricts low-visibility operations because of the terrain's effect on missed approach and circling operations. Even at the time of the study in 1991, PAL believed that navigational aids and instrument procedures would not significantly improve the reliability of commercial air service at the Lumbia airport. PAL also indicated they would not assign wide-body aircraft to the Lumbia airport because of the terrain constraints in the airport vicinity. Doerr notes that this represents an important limitation on Lumbia airport because as passenger levels grow, larger aircraft with lower average cost per seat-kilometer become more economical to operate. Because of terrain constraints, Doerr said the Lumbia airport has permanent constraints related to 1) range of potential operational procedures; 2) installation of improved instrument procedures, and resulting enhancement of safety and adverse weather operational capacity; 3) operations by larger, more efficient aircraft; and 4) night and adverse weather operating restrictions. Doerr notes that while runway extensions for the airport have been proposed and programmed in the past, “it should be noted that such extensions would neither significantly reduce existing operational constraints at the Lumbia airport nor enhance its operational capacity.” In contrast, the operation of the proposed international standard Laguindingan Airport will result to major economic benefits resulting from improved airport operational capabilities, including: a) potential for wide-body jet operations, potential for night commercial flights, instrument operations for both approaches and improved capability for commercial operations during adverse weather conditions. Due to its location near sea level it is anticipated that weather-related cancellations would decrease over those currently suffered at Lumbia. Even with the ILS operational, it only serves the south approach and cannot bring in aircraft coming from the opposite direction during adverse weather conditions. Larger, more comfortable and more economical wide-body aircraft could be accommodated in Laguindingan, and these would make significant amounts of reliable cargo space available to local shippers. Some 75% of all cargo shipped through the Lumbia airport are perishable agricultural products. In summary, significant benefits can be realized with the development of new airport facilities at Laguindingan which will not be available to an upgraded Lumbia airport. If the idea of an upgraded Lumbia airport just wouldn’t die despite all these hard facts, someone somewhere is probably going to benefit from such an “upgrading” project at no benefit to us. Gasgas na jud kana, gamay lang paciencia palihug. GearX February 11th, 2008, 02:32 AM Indigents remain focus of St. Ignatius Medical Clinic Expansion (http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/51734) By Mike Banos February 08, 2008 More indigents stand to benefit from the ongoing expansion of the St. Ignatius Medical Clinic which include a new and expanded pharmacy, diabetes clinic, new radiology department and expanded clinic and birthing facilities. The pharmacy expanded from a 15 sq.m. space at the Pelaez Sports Center to a 108 sq.m. formerly occupied by a short order restaurant directly across the Cagayan de Oro Polymedic General Hospital. “We had both the accounting section and pharmacy in that little space,” said Alfonso Martinez, SIMC administrator. "So the new pharmacy is really a great improvement to service our growing number of indigent clients." Martinez guarantees their pharmacy offers the lowest prices for medicines in the city. He added that the space formerly occupied by the old pharmacy will now be converted into a diabetes clinic run by one of its founders, Dr. Erickson San Juan. Other improvements include a 2D Echo ultrasound machine, a unique noninvasive method for imaging the living heart based on detection of echoes produced by a beam of ultrasound (very high frequency sound) pulses transmitted into the heart. Martinez said they plan to bill indigent patients only P2,000 for the service compared to the P3,200-2,800 now charged by tertiary hospitals in the city. X-rays will also not cost patients more than what public hospitals are now charging their patients. The new radiation facilities will be staffed by radiologists Drs. Roel Dilao, Amelia Casiño, Victoria Miranda and Jeffrey Ponce. Cardiologist Dr. Renato Alagadan will be the point man for the 2D Echo machine. The St. Ignatius Medical Clinic for the poor began as a makeshift clinic below a private residence at 8th St., Nazareth in 1991 with a batch of schoolmates from the Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan High School: Drs. Meneleo Navarro, Erickson San Juan, Raoul dela Serna, Aaron Oliveros and Victor Orencia. The group only charged a medical consultation fee of P25 at the start with medicines provided free of charge through the Committee of German Doctors under Peter Metzger, medical director. "We make it affordable so money does not become a barrier to consultation," Dr. dela Serna said. "We could have provided our services for free, but we chose to charge a minimum consultation fee because we wanted people to value their own health by giving it the dignity it deserves." Nevertheless, even this was waived for patients who couldn't even afford that minimal amount. "We want to give the best service we can at least cost to the patient," he added. In 1993, the group registered the St. Ignatius Health Foundation, Inc. (SIHFI) with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock, non-profit foundation. The group only source of funds was its patients, and they dug into personal pockets when funds ran short, which was often. Furniture and appliances for the clinic were mostly personal items made available by the founders. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. During its March 2002 commencement exercises, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan (XU-AdC) cited SIHFI as its first awardee for the Fr. William Masterson Award for Community Service. The present site of the clinic at the Pelaez Sports Center started as a 120 sq.m. space providing space for a receiving area, and two consultation rooms for pediatrics and surgery. The St. Ignatius Medical Clinic Pharmacy followed in March 8, 2006 to sell essential medicines to indigent patients at a price they could afford. "We surveyed the local costs of medicines and we were able to lower the prices of most medicines by making just enough to cover operations and overhead," Dr. Navarro said. "The BIR gave us a Certificate of Tax Exemption which is a big help. Whatever income the pharmacy generated was plowed back to finance the medical clinic and the Maternal and Child Care (Birthing Home) which began operations in March 18, 2007." But the doctors soon realized that the diagnostic exams needed to confirm their physical diagnosis were still too expensive for most patients. Despite the huge capital need to put up and operate a clinical laboratory, the trustees persuaded creditors to grant them liberal payment schemes for expensive laboratory equipment. On May 18, 2007, the St. Ignatius Diagnostic Center became operational, now one of the best in the city. A spot sampling of their prices reveals the clinic remains true to its word to make health care affordable for the poor. Urinalysis and fecalysis only cost P30.00, even cheaper than some government hospitals. Package rates for CBC and Urinalysis or CBC/fecalysis are also available for only P100.00 What does the future hold for the intrepid band of doctors? With seven resident and 24 visiting physicians, one dentist and 29 medical and other staff, the clinic now serves around 85 indigent patients daily, with the capacity to treat more. For the long term, the group has inked a long-term lease for the former Girl Scouts of the Philippines building which they eventually plan to develop into a five-story mother and child care hospital with no less than 50 beds, according to Mr. Martinez. GearX February 11th, 2008, 02:34 AM 2,000 workers jobless by February 15, 2008 in Medina, Misamis Oriental (http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/51735) By Mike Banos February 08, 2008 Some 2,000 regular and piece workers of Fiesta Brands, Inc. (FBI) will lose their jobs by February 15, due to the combined effects of the weakening dollar and the strengthening peso which have pushed the company to bankruptcy. Acting Medina Municipal Mayor Ken Niño Tiro Uyguangco said he was informed by FBI President Romeo I. Chan the plant had to shut down due to the adverse effects of the improving exchange rate on its products which are all exported abroad. "We are coordinating with the (Misamis Oriental) provincial government on ways we can mitigate the adverse effects of the shutdown," Uyguangco said. "We have listed some of them to be trained as welders through the task force created by Gov. Moreno to prepare for the Laguindingan Airport and Hanjin Shipyard projects. We have also been informed many of the workers have already left for jobs abroad." FBI is a leading Philippine manufacture and export firm of premium processed coconut products with offices in Makati City, the U.S.A., U.K. and Australia, and operates an active market network covering six major continents. According to a Notice of Closure dated January 15, 2006 and signed by Chan to the Department of Labor and Employment Region-10 and the National Conciliation and Mediation Board Branch No. 10, the Medina plant and its offices located therein were closing for good by February 15, 2008. "Due to losses and uncertainty of future business, Fiesta Brands, Inc. will close plant effective February 15, 2008 due to factors beyond its control such as increased raw materials cost, low selling price of finished products, and more importantly, the abrupt and continuous decline in dollar to peso exchange rate, the company's operations for the past year resulted to huge losses that exhausted the financial resources of the company," Chan's letter said. The letter did not state the number of workers affected as mandated by laws governing such closures. Documents filed with NCMB-10 show that FBI formally issued a notice of closure dated January 15, 2008 to the Magkahiusang Mamumuo sa Fiesta Brands, Inc. – National Federation of Labor (NMFBI-NFL), the firm's recognized labor union of its decision to close shop and terminate the existing collective bargaining agreement covering the period January 1, 2005-December 31, 2009. A day later, the union filed a Notice of Preventive Mediation with NCMB-10 filed as RBX case #01-003-08. The document listed 1,500 employees who were formally employed 8 hours daily, six times a week with three shifts per day of 8 hrs each. The same document shows the firm had already undergone a total of 5 CBAs with the NMFBI-NFL accounting for 530 of the total work force. In the Memorandum of Agreement signed by the union and FBI on January 28, 2008, the company agreed to recompense the laid-off employees with 15 days separation pay/terminal assistance for every year of service, unpaid salaries, unused salary and vacation leaves, proportionate 13th month pay, P6.00 increase effective January 2008 under the CBA wage increase as mandated by RTWPB-10 Wage Order No. 13 less 5% separation pay/financial assistance for professional legal services, attorneys fees of Atty. Mario Paul A. Labis who acted as the union's legal counsel during the mediation, and assessment pay for the NFL. Originally established in Barangay Tala-iron, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental, the company, first known as Red V and then in 1990 as Cocogold Manufacturing Industries, Inc., later moved its facilities to Medina, Misamis Oriental reportedly following a dispute over its leased properties. Renamed Fiesta Brands, Inc. (FBI) , the firm commenced its venture in 1986 with only two dryers and two mills, producing desiccated coconut and coconut milk powder. In 1991, FBI established a subsidiary, Fresh Fruit Drinks, Inc. (FFDI) to house the first ultra-high temperature (UHT) coconut processing plant in the country, producing aseptic coconut water and coconut cream, two new products for a wide variety of applications. In 2002, as Fresh Fruit Drinks, Inc. its liquid processing plant was integrated with the coconut milk powder lines, consolidating operations under a new corporate name – Fresh Fruit Ingredients, Inc. (FFII) - to give new focus to the company's core service of providing high quality coconut and fruit-based ingredients to the food industry worldwide. FBI and FFII frequently trumpeted the transformation of the Medina Plant from a traditional processed coconut mill to an integrated, multi-line, multi-product food manufacturing facility producing global standard products and services by strengthening linkages with distributors and agents. FBI is a recipient of the prestigious Golden Shell Award for Export (1992) and the Industrial Award by the Philippine Association of Food Technologists, Inc. (1992). boju2 February 11th, 2008, 02:51 AM ^^ What a sad news:ohno::ohno::ohno: boju2 February 11th, 2008, 02:52 AM ...nakapagbook na ata sila:D boju2 February 11th, 2008, 02:55 AM Villar properties group puts up new subdivision in Kauswagan - Santa Barbara (http://mwamaarkhh.multiply.com/journal/item/392) Feb 10, '08 1:42 AM By MARK D. FRANCISCO CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – DESPITE a looming recession in the United States which may spell repercussions even halfway around the globe in the Philippines, the Villar-owned Vista Land and Lifescapes, Inc. remains to be bullish and in fact has established another high-end subdivision here. Or as Marlon Escalicas, Crown Asia Cagayan de Oro overseer, would put it “affordable living in a luxurious setting.” A division of Vista Land and Lifescapes, Inc., Crown Asia manages and operates Camella Homes and Grand Europa in the city and is now developing Santa Barbara in barangay Kauswagan. “We are bringing kauswagan (Cebuano for prosperity) in barangay Kauswagan,” Escalicas said in an interview with BusinessWorld during the launching of Santa Barbara February 9 which was also graced by Senate President Manuel Villar, whose family owns Vista Land and Lifescapes, Inc. Because they have anticipated that their previous target market – the overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs) – will be the hardest hit should a United States recession persists, Escalicas said they have shifted promoting Santa Barbara to small- and medium-scale entrepreneurs in nearby areas such as the Surigao and Agusan provinces as well as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental and the Lanao and Zamboanga provinces. Most of the units of ongoing high-end subdivision developments here such as the Ayala-owned Alegria Hills and A. Brown-owned Teakwood Hills are sold out to OFWs. This paradigm shift in targeting another market has proved successful to Crown Asia as far as Santa Barbara is concerned. “Prior to our launching today, we have already sold out quite a number of units already,” Escalicas said last Saturday although refusing to give out figures. Spawning 7 hectares in area, Santa Barbara will have a total of 400 housing units ranging from a single-level structure to duplexes and townhouses with varying areas from 41 to 80 square meters each. Prices of each housing unit are pegged from P900,000 to P2 million as compared to the P2 million-P4 million range of Alegria Hills and Teakwood Hills. Construction of the subdivision is expected to be finished by December. The vice governor has also cleared that the participants have agreed to shoulder their own travel costs save for the domestic flights, which were subsidized by the Capitol. i cant praise enough our local leaders who are working for our city, our region, our island, our country. kung lahat lang ng mga polotiko ganito, less talk, more action, eh di sana maluwang2 na ang buhay ng mga pilipino bariQ February 11th, 2008, 03:08 AM Villar properties group puts up new subdivision in Kauswagan - Santa Barbara (http://mwamaarkhh.multiply.com/journal/item/392) Feb 10, '08 1:42 AM By MARK D. Martinez. ito lang masasabi ko, talagang ang progress ng cdo, hinde lag pangmayaman, dahil umaabot din sa mahihirap, there is a new german doctor(clinic?) i heard in Lumbia and a german doctors hospital in valencia, bukidnon Farirah February 11th, 2008, 03:26 AM Tapos nandyan pa yong state of the art ng Polymedic Hospital...wow grabe nato!
