This event is very big. Some peace advocates all around the world will gather in Cagayan de Oro to participate in the event. This is an international event that will boost the rapid growing economy of the city, and will promote the city's business environ more to the whole world.

Choosing Cagayan de Oro as the host in the event really implies that Cagayan de Oro is the symbol of Peace, Unity, and Progress in Mindanao.

I agree 100%

Another new Jollibee will rise in the city too at the vicinity of Macasandig Gym.

In the meantime, there is already a proposal to put up a Jollibee likewise at Kinasanghan, Iponan. Hope this proposal will be materialized anytime.

another Jabee proposal, this time in Iponan. is Iponan part of CDO? if im not mistaken, Iponan is between Bulua and Opol right?

Of course, we are brothers and sisters here. We support each other unlike the claim of another forumer nga nagpalaban daw ko. Gosh, kalooy pud niya oi. Aw, mas kahinanglanon niya mangitag tabang kay sa ako kay naa man kuno siya sa Singapore  Didto kay gi post na iyang avatar nga wanted by authorities  j/k

Short story sa nagpalaban: "nagpalaban daw ko sa isa ka forumer sa Cebu para makauban against them which is unlikely coz that guy he was referring to, nakabangi na to by some forumers from their thread... According to a forumer also from here in Mindanao, he had PMs and YMs with other forumers in VisMin area nga pareha ra raba ang description for some of them in their thread. Pathetic? That's how he can describe himself nga magbuot buot og istorya ba..."

Mindanao's Golden City

Cagayan De Oro City is Northern Mindanao’s catalyst for regional development

By Maricar T. Manuzon

If one is to go by travel advisories, then Mindanao is by no means an attractive destination. But to one who has actually been there, it will be nothing short of naivete to make such a sweeping generalization of the state of this vast area which comprises, alongside Luzon and Visayas, the Philippine archipelago.

Cagayan de Oro City (CDO) is one outstanding example of a peaceful and progressive place in Northern Mindanao – top that with a year-round typhoon free climate. It is actually known as the “City of Golden Friendship.” And the whole of Northern Mindanao (Region 10) is counting on it to be the region’s catalyst for development, as it is fast evolving into the most promising economic center, tourist destination, and convention center in Southern Philippines.

CDO is the provincial capital of Misamis Oriental. An hour-and-a-half plane ride from Metro Manila, and a 35-minute plane trip from Davao City, it serves as the main entry point to Northern Mindanao, and the jump-off point for excursions in Camiguin Island, Bukidnon, and Marawi City.

Cagayan De Oro’s name was derived from the word cagaiang, the name given by the Spanish colonizers to the settlement’s river because of its close similarity to the Cagayan River in Cagayan Valley in Luzon. When the Spanish colonizers found gold in the riverbeds of Cagayan in the mid-16th century, the words “de Oro,” meaning ‘golden’ were attached to its name.

Economic Center

With its low-cost and reliable energy source, ample air and sea ports, modern road networks, and rich reservoir of quality human resources conversant in both English and Tagalog – a factor of the city’s large middle income group and high literacy rate – it is no surprise that Cagayan De Oro is host to a robust manufacturing sector comprised of multinationals, as well as major local companies.

Known old-timers in the city are Nestle Philippines, which manufactures milk and chocolate products; Del Monte Philippines (pineapple, ketchup, and tomato products), Republic Biscuits Company/ REBISCO (food processing), Swift Foods, Inc. (food processing), and Zuellig Pharma (product distribution).

CDO’s neighboring town of Tagoloan, meantime, is host to the 3,000-hectare PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental (PIE-MO), one of the biggest in the country. It has 71 investors with 24 manufacturing firms engaged in diverse industries like steel manufacturing, food processing, and other industries. Some of the industrial estate’s locators are LimKetKai Manufacturing (food processing), TLC Beatrice Foods (food processing), SMC Beverage Packaging Specialist, Inc. (PET containers), and Philippine Sinter Corp. (steel and ore).

CDO has been home to Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT), the most modern container port outside Metro Manila. In 2002, the port registered a total shipping cargo tonnage of 14.3 million metric tons, twice Davao’s shipping volume of 7.2 million metric tons.

The establishment of the P3.24 billion, 85 percent-JBIC (Japan Bank of International Cooperation) funded Mindanao Container Terminal Port (MCTP) at PHIVIDEC will further improve Region 10’s access to international markets. With the MCTP project set for commercial operations within the first half of this year, transport costs in Bukidnon and the rest of Mindanao will be reduced, as its strategic location offers traders and producers the most cost-efficient transit between Mindanao and the Visayas and Luzon, as well as major foreign markets like USA, Japan, and Europe.

One-of-a-kind Township

To cite one more example of the city’s progress, there is Pueblo De Oro – a 360-hectare property for mixed use development located between the airport and city proper. Its development started in 1995. Pueblo is a township project masterplanned by Louis Berger International, where no less than SM mall and Xavier Secondary and Elementary Schools are priced tenants. It is also the future site for Church and Residence of the Archbishop of Mindanao.

More importantly, it also features joint-venture subdivision projects covering basically all the economic classes from A to E. And, of course, it is also, first and foremost, a golf estate – starring an 18-hole, all-weather championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II, and ranked as the country’s fourth best course by Golfing Philippines.

A consummation of Pueblo de Oro’s progressive development into a compleat township would be the creation of an IT hub within the business and commercial area of the property. The IT hub – planned to be an eight-hectare development - is being positioned right next to the mall. Its registration with Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is ongoing, as well as the Office of the City Council’s request to make CDO an IT Hub. Once declared an IT Hub, enterprises within the area would enjoy investor incentives including income tax holiday for four years for non-pioneer and six years for pioneer IT enterprises, additional tax deduction equivalent to 50 percent of training expenses, and permanent resident status to foreign investors with initial investments of US$150,000 or more.

According to Mr. Guillermo Luchangco, Chairman & CEO of the ICCP Group, the main proponent of Pueblo de Oro, the estate is an ideal site for IT-related businesses as it has, in the past years, completed the key necessary factors – water, electric power, telecommunications, amenities, and services - that make such businesses flourish. Add to that the pool of about 4,300 graduates being churned out per year by CDO’s 18 universities, colleges, computer, and vocational schools.

3 GIGANTIC project in a small city

Long term projects. ^^

...Not only local investors, but national and international investors have been investing in CdeO since their customers are not only CdeO's residents alone.

How many satellite cities and provinces (in this big Mindanao island alone) whose residents shop, work, live, study, seeking hospitalizations, have fun and relax, do trade and business here in CdeO everyday?

CdeO (basing on recent NSO) has only more than 500,000 residents. But why there are lots of investments (big and small) have been put in CdeO (excluding the upcoming gigantic projects)? :eat:

The answer is simple: It's because their customers are not only CdeO's residents alone.

...And to invest in the particular city isn't simple on the part of investors. Location wise/Very Strategic Location, purchasing power of the residents, enough infrastructures, not corrupt officials, and most of all PEACE and ORDER are the real factors. Investors' trusted consultants will even live in the city for many years to know more if the said real factors really exist before actual construction of their projects.

Tama. I think CDO only has half a million residents yet the projects for it seem larger than required. It's because CDO is already poised to be a fully fledged Metro with the fast paced dev't of its nerby neighbors. Its consumer base grows every year. Plus to top it of its a beacon of Peace and Stability in Mindanao so I think investors feel their investments are secure.

A business park in Ayala's 480 hectare lot in the southern part of CdeO is just Ayala's plan, a proposed business park that is long term project again.

Long term project because Ayala needs to populate their area. That's why Alegria Hills Community has been created before the rise of shopping center, taller structures, recreational park, etc.

To complement the said proposal, the city government in the meantime has been doing her best to build more shortcut roads (building accessibility to the populous downtown areas where the economic activity is very robust) and other projects needed and even inviting other realty developers to put residential projects too at the vicinity of Ayala's proposed business park.

Again, the goal is to populate first the three southern barangays and to make the areas more accessible from downtown shoppers. ^^

But Ayala's proposal regarding business park will be definitely materialized or will be greatly enhanced anytime once this new proposed CdeO's Camaman-an-Libona, Bukidnon 4 lane National Highway be materialized few years from now. This new national highway will somehow push the Ayalas to finish their proposed business park (satellite city) on time or ahead based on the deadline of their project. :)

...Once this new national highway be materialized, the said 3 southern barangays of CdeO will be somehow akin to barangay Puerto's, Bulua, and Iponan economic progression nowadays. ^^

yes it truly will and that golden mile plus the floating restaurant. I am very optimistic that CdeO will create a more aggressive move for tourism in this part of Mindanao. I hope that area in Bogo (is it?) North of Kauswagan area? I hope it will also be developed further especially the coastline. Perhaps, a boulevard will be added so it will complement the coastal area setting for those who love sea breezes with hotels and resorts around. I saw there is a new bridge in that area.

Yes coz as we can see, CdeO's development in the last ten years has been faster as expected. As for me who lives in Iligan, we see how much development has gone coz we go there at least twice a month. And every visit is a unique experience as establishments sprout like mushrooms in every part of the city.

For that part in Bogo, i think a long term plan should be put on drawing boards as CdeO's looming development is coming at fast pace with the upcoming Laguidingan Airport Project as well as Hanjin's shipyard. These projects will really boost CdeO's development further. More to that, the are also the looming development of Camp Evangelista to become another commercial district.

You know, take it from me who's from Iligan, Cagayan de Oro is the only commercially developed city in Mindanao that has not been rocked by any bombing incident (not even in recent and distant years). And that alone is a reason why investors are so bullish about your city. We look up to your city's development as a positive impact for us here in Iligan.

^^I agree. The dev't in CDO are really fast & it will only accelerate once key infrastructure is in place (LIA & Minda Railways). Future concentration of CBDs may look like this 1. Downtown CDO (LKK + Gaisano + Ayala Mall?), 2. Uptown CDO (Pueblo + Koresco), 3. Riverside (Paseo + GoldenMile). 4. Camp Evangelista, & 5. Indahag area.

No doubt, CdeO's development makes it a viable place as a second home for me after Bohol (coz my wife is from there) and Iligan. Anyway, that's a long term plan but i'm not counting out the possiblity. With this minute plan, I could add to CdeO's expanding population or perhaps contribute to population explosion. Hehehehe...

I actually plan to settle in CDO as well because I am already seeing the signs of a peaceful & livable metropolis(Modern Amenities exist harmoniously with Nature). When the time comes I hope all these promising dev'ts will materialize. As for now time can only tell if the potential of CDO will be realized. It really has all the ingredients to make it an International City of Prosperity - its only up to the people & off course unforseen circumstances. Anyway theres still many years ahead of me so I can wait for this to happen.

he...he...he... I do have the same thinking of you bai, it was in1998 when I left cdo to work in Manila, when I got work in UAE then finally here in he US di ko na ulit nasilayan ang CDO, I dont really have the idea on the real transformation of the City....thats why I owe it all from my my mom ad my sister and most of all with this forum so that I can be updated with my beloved city.....it is really a heartwarming feeling when somebody tells you ...na gwapo na kaayo ang Cagayan de oro karon......that is exactly the word na naririnig ko from someone who recently visited the city.....although nabalitaan ko lang yon but then I firmly believe that its really is. I am planning to be back by 2012...matagal pa ano? just in time na fully operational na ang Laguindngan airport, honestly yan talaga ang habol ko at pinanindigan ko yan. it is a plus if one of the gigantic project like PDR, LKK expansion and the the so-called Ayala(?) project are finished.

2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez is sourcing out funds for the construction for the reclamation of Cagayan de Oro’s 10 kilometer premier coastline from barangay Macabalan to barangay Bugo for a four lane coastal road. “It’s a four lane coastal highway that would showcase Cagayan de Oro City as a growing metropolis.” The coastal road is hoped to ease traffic congestion especially on cargo trucks plying the Butuan, Bukidnon and the Iligan-Cagayan de Oro City. Rodriguez allayed fears of massive dislocation as he assured no such thing will occur. “We do not intend to dislocate residents and if ever, they will be fairly compensated.” Rodriguez is hopeful that the 10 kilometer road will jumpstart fresh investments that would kick the local economy.

Investors' trusted consultants will even live in the city for many years to know more if the said real factors really exist before actual construction of their projects.

you said it perfectly.^^

hmmmm... i was really thinking of that area recently and such news would really emphasize the needs of infrastructure capability of CdeO for its growing metropolis in the future. Buti na ang paghandaan kesa magproblema paglobo ng population. Nice observation from Rufus on CdeO's growth to become a metropolis in the future. Makikita talaga natin na meron talagang positive outlook in CdeO's future.

Hi guys, Wow! ang daming developments sa CDO.:banana::banana:

Here is another update from Gold Star Daily, Sept. 17, 2008 issue:
MPSC BID TO BECOME A UNIVERSITY GETS HOUSE GO-AHEAD
Congressmen okay Bill To Turn MPSC Into University. The Lower House has approved the conversion of the state-run Mindanao Polytechnic State College in Cagayan de Oro City into the MINDANAO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.

Cagayan de Oro Congressman Rodgriguez (2nd District), principal author of House Bill No.242 which sought the conversion of MPSC into a university, said the Senate has also approved the bill on second reading on Monday after Congress forwarded it last week for approval.

The Lower House approved it on third and final reading on Wednesday last week.

According to Rodgriguez, the conversion of MPSC into a state university would put Cagayan de Oro City in the map as the center of education in Mindanao.
He said that aside from hihger budget from the national government, the conversion would also mean more grants from abroad which would afford poor and deserving students quality education in a state university.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, chair of the Senate Committee on Education, and other senators are coming to Cagayan de Oro City on September 22 to hold a public hearing for the third and final approval of the conversion.

"Obviously, in October, MPSC will definitely becoma a State University," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez has more than 150 science and technology scholars under |City's Public College who are all enrolled and studying at MPSC. Rodrguez's congressional office created the City's Public College this year in cooperation with MPSC, TESDA and STI College.

Another some 150 scholars are now also enrolled in TESDA, taking up vocational courses and STI College, taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

With the conversion of MPSC into a university, current courses offered at MPSC will definitely be upgraded while unavailable courses such as Nursing will likely be offerred at the state-run university next enrollment year, Rodriguez said. CRIS DIAZ, BUSINESS EDITOR.

Normin is surely becoming the center for education in Mindanao. Take for example those schools in CdeO and Iligan's MSU-IIT. Xavier and MSU-IIT pa lang wala nang makapantay sa Mindanao. Totoo naman kasi sa field ng science and technology both cities have universities that cater to the educational needs of Mindanaoans. In fields of arts and culture, magaling din ang ating mga universities coz MSU-IIT's IPAG gained praises of the world's cities when they perform in Europe and North America. That alone is an accomplishment for us in Mindanao. Both Xavier and MSU-IIT have talented theatrical artists and directors as well as the top caliber educational mentors in Minadanao. Dapat siguro ang plan din is to really intensify the standards of education here in Normin para students not only in the island of Mindanao will come to study here but also nearby places in the Visayas areas. Hehehe...I'll just keep my answer to myself.

But you have made me remembered now my old English Jesuit Professor way back 1997. He said that in Jesuit academe in this southern island "Xavier and the others." Well, according to him.

Regarding one of my alma mater schools, all I know that Xavier University has produced many notable politicians, radical (not extreme ha) activists, NGO members, and lawyers (lawyers that are credible (I really love this word ha )) in our country and even in the third world countries (like countries in Southest Asia, Latin America, and Africa) and even the emerging superpower in the future, India (by Xavier's SEARSOLIN). :)

Most of all is that many African Agriculturists are somehow rebuilding Africa now thru their learned advanced agricultural technology: that is from XAVIER.)

Repertory Philippines performs at Rodelsa Hall
September 16, 2008

Catch Repertory Philippines's "Tuesdays with Morrie" at Rodelsa Hall this weekend, with 8 p.m. gala performances on Sept. 19, 20, and 21 and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sept. 20.
FOR THE FIRST time in its 40-year history, the world-class Filipino professional theatre company that gave the world Lea Salonga and Monique Wilson ventures into Mindanao.

Repertory Philippines will perform "Tuesdays with Morrie" at Rafaelita P. Pelaez's Rodelsa Hall, the elegant, state-of-the-art cultural center in Cagayan de Oro City this weekend.

"We believe that this powerful play can tell us a lot about life and the values we hold dear and the indomitable truths that matter through the ages," says Mozart Pastrano, artistic director of Rodelsa Hall. "Tuesdays With Morrie" is the highly acclaimed drama based on the bestselling book of Mitch Albom, a cynical sportswriter who narrates, in a first-person account, an unusual friendship he struck with Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor who was battling the rare, debilitating Lou Gehrig's Disease. The two manage to discuss crucial life lessons even as the clock ticked on.

The uplifting and touchingly funny two-man play was written by Albom himself, in partnership with veteran playwright Jeffrey Hatcher. The Repertory Philippines production is directed by theater legend Baby Barredo and stars two of the best actors on the Philippine stage---and is widely considered one of the most successful plays of Repertory Philippines since its inception in 1967.

Bart Guingona, reprising his role from earlier this year, plays Mitch, the harried sportswriter whose preoccupation with work has caused him to lose sight of the things that really matter. Guingona, a highly respected veteran of nearly a hundred theatrical productions, is well known for the passion and intensity he brings to the stage, both as an actor and as a director.

Aliw Award-winning actor and director Miguel Faustmann plays Morrie, stepping into a role marvelously played earlier this year by Jose Mari Avellana. Last May, Avellana collapsed onstage just as he was about to take his curtain call. Members of the audience thought the incident was part of the play but it turned out that Avellana had suffered from internal bleeding when the over-the-counter pain killer that he took reacted with his stomach ulcer.

Faustmann, whose heartfelt vulnerability and sensitivity have made him a theater favorite for nearly three decades, is also a perfect fit for the role of Morrie: warm, wise, witty in the midst of physical deterioration. Catch Repertory Philippines's "Tuesdays with Morrie" at Rodelsa Hall this weekend, with 8 p.m. gala performances on Sept. 19, 20, and 21 and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sept. 20.

In short, more developments are going to make CdeO a magnet for commerce, industry, education and tourism.

Pero sa Vismin area ang Cebu pa lang ang merong highrises na maganda rin. Susunod din ang Mindanao niyan in the future with CdeO's development. Pero sa CdeO kaya pang mag sprawl kesa mag high rise. Pero di talaga madeny that high rises are coming to CdeO nowadays.

oo nga, kaya sana mabago pa ang current design ng LKK Novotel kasi di talaga maganda..sayang tallest pa naman

Good for MPSC, IIT was planned to part from MSU before to become a solo university pero maraming ayaw kasi mostly sinabi nila na tataas na daw ang tuition although State U pa rin siya. So this one is a good move for CdeO's constituents and the nearby provinces kasi they will be able to attend that university. Sooner, CdeO will be like Dumaguete na maraming university.

Hindi ko na count kung ilan pero marami din ang university. Mga 8 or so siguro. University town kasi ito headed by Silliman U. I once lurked in the Dumaguete thread at I saw on their posts marami pala dun. Yun nga lang mas kilala sa atin ang Silliman.

For CdeO, kilala talaga ang Xavier University at Liceo U. I think Liceo became a university in 1997 they even went to Iligan for prospective enrollees. Marami rami ding Iliganons ang nakapag aral sa Xavier mostly for graduate studies such M.A.s and Ph. D.s . Kilala talaga si Fr. Demetrio ng XU kasi when i did my thesis study on folklore isa ang mga books niya na nabasa ko. In fact, kung folklore studies di mo talaga pwedeng alisin si Fr. Demetrio sa mga hanay ng references for that research.

CAGAYAN DE ORO COASTAL HIGHWAY PROJECT UP - REP. RUFUS RODRIGUEZ

I reiterate this too. Wa pa ni mogawas nga news nakahuna huna ko nga kana nga area where the new bridge is put dapat madevelop into a coastal area for CdeO's growing city (di na lang sa metropolis kay naa'y magpabikil--dili man daw sila mabikil so kani na lang nga word).

And now? Voila! naa gyud diay plan ang government ana nga area. For me, that crossing near Makro is bustling during rush hour. So that means, in the future magiging smooth na ang junction na yan including other intersections along the national highway.

OT lang to a friendly neighbor forumer: Ang level of education bya sa Normin kay taas. Pero sa kataas sa among level of education, nakahibalo pud me how treat ugly people with ugly ways pud. Our attitude in your thread does not represent our educational levels kasi karapat dapat lang pud sa inyo who treated us in an uneducated way. By the way, do you call that educated nang mga show off? Nabagohan? Oi, bisan dili mag add ang Normin og unis, sa Xavier og IIT pa lang taas pa na sa uban educational institutions sa Mindanao. Og ayaw na og pakiglalis kay centers of excellence in science and technology na sila as well as in arts and theatre. Within the top 10 ang IIT in terms of ranking nationally. Xavier in itself is a top caliber university gaining topnotchers in the recent years. Kung gusto ninyo, pildiha sa ang UP Main og UST sa researches beh para mo bow gyud mi ninyo.

Hala, hasta pud diay fields in education hilabtan. Nakig-compete gyud diay sa CdeO. Og mo mention siguro kog pahugaway og city makig-compete pud siguro. One more, our universities here are a not aiming for prestige, it is the quality of education. Makikita naman yun kahit sa national level. Anyway, we are not trying to impress with our excellences, it is to impart to everybody the quality of educational institutions we have here. For instance IIT was called upon by some as the school of the poor (due to its low tuition fees) but its quality of graduates are at par with that of UP Main and UST. The same goes with Xavier in terms of the quality of its graduates. To end this discussion, I would like to tell you, we are not trying to compete with your city. It's jst that some of your co-threaders there are so high and way beyond the limits of the atmosphere. I hope you have the chance to observe some of them. Of how educated they are. So peace there bro! (if youre reading)

old article, trail riding in CDO - the next big thing? i thought it was kayaking?
------
Trail Riders of the Mindanao High Lands (http://kagay-an.com/articles.php?key=248)
By By Mike Banos

They gathered from all points of the island and some from across the sea, all 64 riders from Cebu, Davao, Malaybalay, Impasug-ong, Quezon and Cagayan de Oro dressed for the occasion with stetsons, vests, boots, western saddles, bandanas and other regalia of the American West.

Led by trail guides and hosts Bobby and Iso Montalvan of Quezon, Bukidnon, Rene Abbu of Valencia City, Bukidnon and Impasug-ong Mayor Mario Okinlay, the nine hour ride started from Intabas, thence to the Ramcar ranch in Dalirig before winding up in Malaybalay for the night where the group was hosted by the Montalvans.

For two days the horsemen picked their way over sodden earth, forded creeks and rivers, following a trail blazed some years ago by the Montalvan couple with a small band of intrepid riders.

Benjie Paras, president and general manager of G & P Builders based in Cagayan de Oro, has been riding for only a year but has been bitten by the horse riding bug in a bad way, and now maintains a stable of seven houses in his mobile ranch house in Dahilayan, including an ex-polo thoroughbred.

"I was invited by Bobby Cabrera to join the group, and I've found it to be relaxing and a good way to de-stress by enjoying the real beauty of nature first hand," said Mr. Paras.

Once a month he goes on a long trail ride with his fellow horsemen, but at least once a week takes time to take shorter rides (3-4 hrs) within his Dahilayan ranch to exercise and build up his endurance.

Jun Villar, president of the Kagayan de Oro Horsemen, probably has the biggest stable among the group's 25 members with 12 thoroughbreds and quarter horses.

"We decided to organize ourselves following the horse riding skills competition held last July, 2005 at the Limketkai Center grounds," Mr. Villar said. "We take trail rides in Bukidnon because it's safe and many of the trails have already been blazed as cattle trails by the ranchers of Bukidnon."

Iko Roa, who is probably the most experienced among the Kagayan de Oro Horsemen, has been riding for ten years and was professionally trained as a horse trainer and riding instructor in the Equestrienne Promotion International School in Mabolo, Cebu owned by Ramon "Tito" Garcia.

"I taught for seven years in Cebu, Manila and Alabang during the 1980s where our school also opened branches," he recalls. The school in Mabolo had some 40 horses and up to 10 students training together at any one time, among them now Rep. Raul del Mar of Cebu.

Besides training would be riders in the proper riding techniques, as well as the care and grooming of their horses, Mr. Roa also trains horses and riders train for competition in the Southern Philippines horse riding skills competition "circuita" which covers Cebu (March), Malaybalay (June), Davao (July), Cagayan de Oro (August) and Impasug-ong (September).

The competitions are mostly timed during the town fiestas or festivals where they have been a consistent drawer of appreciative crowds, and usually features riding skills competitions involving men and their horses such as barrel racing, obstacle course and oval track racing divided into three divisions: novice, expert and executive (for those aged 40 years and above).

In particularly large competitions, the riders are further classified into youth, ladies and auxiliary divisions, with the latter consisting mostly of ranch hands who ride for a living.

Although he is a professional horse trainer and riding instructor, Mr. Roa says he rides for the full-body workout it provides as much as gaining new knowledge and skills to further hone his craft.

In their latest trail ride last Saturday, April 14, some 15 Kagayan de Oro Horsemen trekked nine hours from Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich to Libona, Bukidnon and thence to Cagayan de Oro.

"We hope to make trail riding the next big thing after white water rafting in Cagayan de Oro," said Mr. Paras.

Visitors or residents wanting to try the sport can try going horseback riding at the 2,000 hectare Mapawa Nature Park reforestation area in Bgy. Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City. It's very affordable at only P75/head for a 15 minute trail ride to P175/head for one hour, free riding instructions included. There's also a three hr. trail ride to the park's 55 foot waterfalls or two hr. cowboy trail ride through the cattle pasture.

But for Mr. Paras, Mr. Villar, Mr. Roa and the rest of the Kagayan de Oro Horsemen, still nothing compares to the thrill and enjoyment of a real trail ride in the highlands of Mindanao.

Trail Riding : Cagayan de Oro's next Extreme Sports Adventure (http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/57854)
Mike Banos

One of the country's better horse trainers believes trail riding in the highlands of Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon has great potential as the region's next adventure sport.

"You already have the trails and the horses you need to make trail riding a tourism attraction," said Monica "Monette" Rosario-Agbulos following a recent trail ride in Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. "All you need is to package it into something unique that tour operators can offer their clients."

Rosario-Agbulos trains horses and riders in dressage and show jumping in Marikina but is also a travel and tours operator. Last March 28-29, she went on her third trail ride in the Mindanao highlands with the Cagayan de Oro Horsemen, a group of horse riding enthusiasts who organize periodic trail rides for its members and guests.

With Monette were hubby Richie and children Bianca, Jed and Rico. Joining them were her brother Ral, wife Betty and children Kyle, Raphael and Gavin. The siblings make it a point to have a joint family vacation at a unique destination anywhere in the country at least once a year.

Including the ten visitors from Manila, a total of 41 riders joined the trail ride which took them from Dahilayan, up to the 'cabin' and through a unique hilltop forest trail in the foothills of Mt Kitanglad which they traversed for an hour and a half single file, with barely room for a single rider and his horse to pass through.

"I thought the kids would complain because we didn't get any sleep at all before we hit the trail since we had to take the early morning flight but no one did and apparently they enjoyed the experience," Monette said at a dinner hosted by former Cagayan de Oro Horsemen President JunVillar and his wife Madet at their residence in Cugman.

Monette had her first trail ride in the Mindanao highlands when she was invited late last year by Jun Mińoza of Cebu. She took not one but two trail rides (Cagayan de Oro and Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon), went white water rafting in the Cagayan River, among other things.

"This latest trail ride is more adventurous, technical harder but the scenery is much better," she noted.

Monette started horseback riding at eight during summer vacations to Baguio with the 'pony boys' of Wright Park. But she only started formal riding lessons when she was 15 at the defunct D'Rossa riding school. These days, she notes the only riding schools left in Metro Manila are the Polo Club and Pook Ligaya Riding Stables along Commonwealth Ave.

If local horsemen ever decide to package their tours for tourism purposes, Monette notes the only competition to the Mindanao Highlands trail rides would be those in Tagaytay and Baguio (Wright Park, Marlboro and Japanese trail) which all feature informal western riding.

But before local riders undertake these, she has a couple of comments and suggestions:

"Your guides have to be trained not only to guide but to tell the stories about the trail to their visitors, especially those who come from afar," she noted. She observed that guides on the Cagayan de Oro trail ride can easily converse in Pilipino and English, unlike their more taciturn counterparts from Bukidnon.

On top of that, she suggests local trail ride tour operators should offer a good package and advertise to get trail riding in the Mindanao Highlands into the mainstream.

"Invite the Koreans," she specified, upon learning of the growing presence of Korean nationals in the region. She noted how vans loaded with Korean tourists would arrive in Wright Park arrive every 30 minutes during the peak season. Korean schools in Baguio have even integrated horseback riding into their curriculum, she added.

"Make it cheap so everybody rides," she advised.

Personally, Monette dreams one day of conducting hippotherapy for special children, which she says only needs a small 20 x 40 meter bullring.

Hippotherapy is a therapy treatment strategy that uses the horse's movement as a means to a treatment goal for clients who have movement dysfunction. It can improve balance, posture, mobility and function and also affect psychological, cognitive, behavioral and communication functions for clients of all ages.

It can be used to treat a wide variety of disorders like autism, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Down syndrome, traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries, stroke, attention deficit disorders, learning or language disabilities and visual or hearing impairments.

Recently, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula pledged to the Cagayan de Oro Horsemen that the city veterinarian's office would allocate 3.5 hectares of its planned mini-stock farm in Barangay Indahag as stables for the horsemen.

"It's still a dream to make it the next adventure sport," said Bobby Cabrera, recently elected president of the Horsemen. Not to mention a possible site for Monette's bull ring offering hippotherapy for special children, one might add.

IMO, once finished, CUMC could be the most good looking medical structure in the island. No doubt about it. And in few years time, CdeO will be called the University Town of Mindanao. Cagayan De Oro - University Town, where learning and living are inseparable.

Yes, that was what we we're talking about an hour ago. A university town like Dumaguete.

Actually, 8 storeys siya, Bai... Safe to say, the best looking medical facility in this part of the country... I'm proud to say I'm one of her employees... :-)

It's funny how one frets vis-a-vis this statement:lol: This is a fact that some could not accept. There's no need to elaborate, ang sinabi lang dito the best looking medical facility in this part of the country, then someone reacted & ended up defending their own---:ohno:

Hi! So if its a St. Benilde, then it just so happen that they carrying the same name. The De la Salle System only has one St. Benilde and its the one in Taft Ave. just right in front of the DLSU-Manila Campus.

The DLS System btw handles plenty of schools outside Manila. they call it a LASALLE-Supervised school but not LASALLE per se.. :)

Wow, MPSC will be a university na! Eversince, ang taas talaga ng respeto ko sa school na yan. It shows in their board exam results and the performance of their graduates in their chosen fields. That's why I'm happy that my niece is studying their right now, currently in second year high school. And since we're talking about education, St. Lukes Hospital is currently hiring graduates from Xavier University College of Nursing. The screening started yesterday (September 18) with series of examinations and interviews. Luckily, all of my friends passed and they will be having their second round of examination this time computerized na kasi sa first exam, test paper lang. St. Lukes is aiming to pick 200 nurses from Xavier University College of Nursing mostly from batch 2006 and 2007. I think St. Lukes have chosen XU due to its performance. Karen Palad, daughter of Dr. Ramona Heidi Palad (XUCN graduate, batch 2006) ranked number one among all applicants when she applied in Manila. There are currently six nurses (according to my friends from batch 2006) who are now working in St. Lukes and others are in Makati Medical Center.

Ciné Europa comes to CdeO (http://www.pia.gov.ph/default.asp?m=12&fi=p080918.htm&no=92)
by Thelma Gecolea

Cagayan de Oro City (18 September) -- Now on its 11th year, Ciné Europa's tradition of bringing excellent European films to the Philippines continues as it tours select cities in the country.

Ciné Europa 11 opened in Manila on September 11 and will last until September 21 at the Shang Cineplex of Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Mandaluyong City. From Manila, Ciné Europa hits Ayala Center Cebu from September 26 to 28 and goes for the first time to Cagayan de Oro from October 3 to 5.
:applause::applause::applause:

A press briefing will be held on 2 October, 12 noon at the Rodelsa Hall Boardroom in Liceo de Cagayan University. The university will host the Cagayan de Oro leg of the cinema tour.

Cine Europa 11 will be opened by French Ambasador Gerard Chesnel who represents the Presidency of the European Union; Ambassador Alistair MacDonald, Head of Delegation of the European Commission; Atty. Andy Bautista, Chairman and CEO of Shangri-La Plaza Corporation and Ms. Lala Fojas, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of ShangriLa Plaza Corporation.

As the opening feature film, first up is France's entry "Love Songs" by Christophe Honoré.

In the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, coinciding with the French Presidency of the European Council, Ciné Europa 11 goes beyond featuring quality European movies to the Filipino audience, to further enhance dialogues between our diverse cultures through the silver screen.

While the entries, either box office hits or festival awardees, portray the cultural values of contemporary European societies, discussions with Filipino filmmakers and critics, shall highlight similarities, or differences with Philippine films and society, in general.

Certainly, this year's edition of Ciné Europa is going to be another opportunity for Filipino film enthusiasts to rediscover the diversity, gaiety and drama of Europe's various facets of life.

The film festival also opens its doors to European countries which are not members of the EU. The Embassy of Switzerland is joining Cine Europa for the first time.

Films about love, romance, hope, despair, laughter, struggles, survival and competition from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom will certainly endear Europe more to Cine Europa followers in Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

Ciné Europa, which started in 1998, remains to be a distinctive acknowledgement of the partnership of the European Community with the Philippines by way of sharing with the Filipino public the diversity and uniqueness of European film culture.

Admission to the screenings is free on a first-come, first-served basis.

The film details including the schedule of the screenings can be found at http://www.delphl.ec.europa.eu. (Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines)

Alvarez group to reassume control over BMW Phils (http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Business&p=49&type=2&sec=27&aid=2008091871)
By Marianne V. Go
Friday, September 19, 2008

The BMW Group of Germany has decided to return control of its automobile business in the Philippines to its minority partner Asian Carmakers Corp. (ACC). The turnover will take effect Jan. 1, 2009.

In line with this BMW Philippines, owned 70 percent by the BMW Group and 30 percent by ACC, will be dissolved by December.

In an exclusive interview with The STAR, ACC chairman Jose Ch. “Pepito” Alvarez said the BMW automobile business in the country will remain intact, but would now revert back to the control of ACC which had previously controlled the franchise.

“It’s the same. Before, they wanted to take control so I let them. Now, because of their restructuring, they’ve decided to return control back to us,” Alvarez explained.

Alvarez said ACC is expanding its BMW business with a P250-million investment for an automotive technical institute that would train automotive service technicians for the Middle East, China, North Asia, Korea and Japan.

“It will be even better,” Alvarez stressed.

He said the BMW Group will continue to provide technical support while marketing and sales will be taken over by ACC.

“All the German technicians will remain while we will also train more service technicians,” Alvarez said.

The institute, Alvarez said, hopes to train and graduate 25 to 50 technicians every three months and send them mostly to the Middle East and China.

According to Alvarez, BMW continues to be the No. 1 in sales in the luxury car segment.

So far, this year, Alvarez said, BMW has sold 865 units with the total for the year expected to reach almost 900 units. However, the prospects for next year are not as good, with sales going down to between 600 and 800 units, he said.

This is due to the forthcoming election and to the effectivity of the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) which would give Japanese cars a strong price advantage over their European counterparts.

In a press statement, BMW Asia managing director Roland Krueger, who oversees the BMW business in the Philippines, said that BMW Philippines would be “restructured.”

By Jan. 1 next year, ACC will take over the importation of BMW automobiles and “further development of the BMW automobile business in the Philippines.”

According to Krueger, “the restructuring is a logical step in view of the objective to increase business efficiency worldwide.”

“Our top priority is to ensure the best sales and service standards to our customers in the Philippines and this priority will remain unchanged,” he said.

Ang ganda nito parang nasa countryside ng US. Ano yan? clubhouse?

Speaking of U.S. merong neighbor natin who talked about New Orleans, LA at sabi pa eh baka daw di natin alam san yun? nakakatawa, nandun cousins ko sa New Orleans pero dati sa Houma, LA nakatira. Alam mo, ang masasabi ko lang, nabag-ohan gyud. Ang dami naming relatives dun, when in fact not to include my great grandfather on the mother's side is coming from an American ancestry of Columbus, Ohio. Watch and observe na lang ta ani nila oi. Pero di ko alam kung matatawa ako o ma pity for them. Hay naku, speaking of kat-kat, do you own an estate there in the US, dili na lang ko magboast kay dili na nako binuhatan. Og kung maglawyer ka o basin mag TNT lang ka dha. Kay kasagaran ra ba sa hambog nga gikan didto not in good condition diay ang work.

my great grandfather on the mother's side is coming from an American ancestry of Columbus, Ohio.

tisoy diay ka bai. never been to Columbus, but we went to Cleveland sa 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame', Browns Stadium (football) and Indians (baseball). then dumaan lang kami sa Toledo papuntang Detroit, Michigan.

IMO, di na maganda ang New Orleans after what happened sa Katrina. pero favorite place ko pa rin kasi enjoy ang Bourbon St, Aquarium of the Americas, swamp adventure, cajun/creole food - jambalaya, (first time i ate a fried croc, yummy so try ko din sa Tampa). pero kakagulat, daming itim south kasi eh.

Itim kasi ang population dun mostly. It is where jazz music started. Speaking of Katrina, kawawa daw talga yung nangyari coz my cousins left New Orleans before Katrina came. Iniwan nila sasakyan along the way to Houston kasi wala nang gas. Sayang din yun kasi SUV. Grabe raw kasi ang panic buying nun pati na sa gas. Buti nalang bahay nila di gaanong na damaged.

Ako tisoy? You will greatly laugh if you see me coz my skin is purely Pinoy but my younger brother is. Habulin yun ng mga babae when he was still straight. Ako pa nga ang nilalapitan ng iba para makahalubilo ang brother ko before. Pero ngayon mas babae pa yun sa tunay na girl

Maybe he is one of the proponents of that phase 2 reclamation project. It's probably patterned after the Manila & Cebu reclamation projects. I think it was a good strategy to reclaim small tracts of land in Phases para di maging idle ang lupa. That was one of the initial dilemas of the Cebu SRP because the 250+ reclaimed land remained idle for a long time.

IMO, once finished, CUMC could be the most good looking medical structure in the island. No doubt about it. And in few years time, CdeO will be called the University Town of Mindanao. Cagayan De Oro - University Town, where learning and living are inseparable.

Finishing touches nalang at completely finished na itong World-class hospital. After all the construction and expansion of the Hospitals & Universities of CDO - it will be called an Education & Medical Hub of the South.

Jaraula asks MisOr to let go of MOGCHS (http://northernmindanao.com/?p=918)
September 19, 2008

http://northernmindanao.com/gallery/d/946-1/tn_MOGCHS.jpg

By Lizanilla J. Amarga

Thousands of parents and teachers of students at the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) are now clamoring that jurisdiction over their school be now transferred from the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental to the City Government of Cagayan de Oro.

Jigs Jaraula, outgoing president of the MOGCHS General Parents and Teachers Association (MOGCHS-GPTA), said their school is still under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental despite how the students attending classes there are actually residents of Cagayan de Oro city.

Because of this, he explained that the City Government cannot actually spend a single centavo out of its School Board Fund to improve the quality of education at MOGCHS because it is tied only to bankrolling projects for public schools under its own jurisdiction.

Jaraula said it is also understandable that the Provincial Government does not spend much for MOGCHS because the students it is catering to are residents of this city and there are other public high schools in the its 23 municipalities and two cities that it has to also develop.

“MOGCSH is really an orphan school and it is catering to over 1,000 students,” he told Gold Star Daily.

Jaruala said this is why they are asking the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental to pass the proper ordinance to let go of their jurisdiction over MOGCHS.

He said they are now appealing also to First District Cong. Rolando Uy and Second District Cong. Rufus Rodriguez to sponsor a legislative measure to then transfer the jurisdiction over MOGCHS to the City Government.

He added that he has already talked this controversy with the incoming officers of the MOGCHS-GPTA.

thanks for the effort @cyberwizard, the article says it's 10 kilometers long so you can use google-earth and plot the probable area as proposed...your map I believe is less than 2 kms as based on the marker (yellow). But i think that would be good for phase 1.

Oo. Sana maging parang Mapua Institute yang propsed University sa CDO para talagang dayuhin ng the best & brightest.

Hi,

Please don't get me wrong.

I'm an Eng'g Alumni of MPSC. I was also offered to join the college of engg teaching staff upon graduation, which I did. I know the College President, Ricardo Rotoras, Ph.D., very well.

We don't want to be a Mapua or any other science and tech school. We are just MPSC and we are proud of what we've accomplished already from our first board exam passers. And we are proud that we are still maintaining that very high standard even now.

During my time as engg student, we are only paying around P15 per month as tuition fee. It was increased to around P20 during my senior years. Not sure how much is the tuition fee now.

The most difficult part is to maintain your marks. Otherwise, you will be kicked out if you have 2 or more subject failures. Usually, after 1st sem, 3rd year is where daghan hagbong. Because of too many Maths subjects. I'm not sure if this is still true today.

Very hard to enter. And the screening process is pretty hard. And it has limited slot every year.

A friend of mind who works at Del Monte, Bugo is from Mapua. He use to teach parttime at MPSC. He said, "believe gyud ko sa mga engg students diri sa MPSC bai. Maayo gyud". That's his words. :)

Even if you are poor, like me. You can still get an eng'g degree from MPSC (See the tuition fee). Make sure you can enter first and maintain your marks for 5 years. :)

'Hotels, hospitals still hot investments’ (http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/0919&202008/headlines09.html)

By Max V. de Leon
Reporter

DESPITE the present gloom in economics worldwide, investors are going ahead with their plans to increase hotel and hospital rooms, a decision the government said shows continuing investor confidence in the country.

These tourism sector investors have already under development over P9.1 billion in projects injected during the first half of the year. Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said these government-registered projects, once completed, will raise domestic supply of hotel rooms by another 1,177 units.

“These projects confirm the stark investor confidence that the country continuously enjoys. We fully advocate immediate action on said projects to further boost the economy,” said Durano in a statement.

The Department of Tourism has reported these projects include the LKY Hotel (formerly Mayon Hotel) in Legazpi City, Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City, Microtel Inns and Suites in Cabanatuan, Park Bed & Breakfast Hotel & Restaurant in Pasay, Hotel Kimikarlai in Cagayan de Oro; ABC Apartel in Angeles City, Hotel Vida Resort Complex in Pampanga, Paseo Premiere Hotel in Laguna, Bahia de Baler Garden Resort in Aurora, Country Inn Hotel and Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro, Manila Ocean Park and the Sabin Resorts and Development Corp. in Lapu-lapu.

Among those expanding their infrastructure are Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu and the Eastbay Arts Recreational Tourism Zone in Rizal; while the Peninsula Manila will modernize its facilities.

Ma. Victoria Jasmin, head of the department’s Tourism Investments Promotions Group, said the construction of these ventures has generated jobs and their completion is expected to generate more jobs “as the tourism industry remains one of the biggest employment resources in the country.”

In the medical tourism segment, Medical City announced it will add 250 more hospital rooms.

Board of Investments-approved investments are eligible for income tax holidays of 4 to 6 years, and duty-free importation of selected capital equipment for their operations.

cheers,
Bisaya Dako

I've study in MPSC b4(last 2006) I witness and experience the presure of being a MPSC students, 1st sem of the my 1st year there I have 6 units of math already higher than my major which is 3 units only, It is true that you have to maintain your grades, if you failed in 2 subjects you're automatically droped to that course (lucky if will be accepted to other colleges/department) the tuition fee is also a big topic during the enrollment days every year the increase is expected.B4 I pay 8,000 per semester, but now according to my friends it already reach to 14,000 per semester (almost double in just 2 yrs) how much more now?
for me MPSC's training is the best! just see the board passers of the eng'g students always 100% every year.

KUDOS! MPSC-MUST

MONDAY september 22, 2008 is the official announcement of the new MUST, together with their INTRAMURALS.

You know what it has been a big surprise somehow for CdeO as the Industrial Center In Mindanao where most of the gigantic factories/industrial plants (Del Monte, Nestle, Pepsi, Marca Leon, Nature's Spring, industrial plants in CdeO's Industrial Park (PHIVEDIC), etc) are not very far from coastal areas, while their industrial ports are located along the coasts, and despite CdeO's largest domestic and international seaport and CdeO's Mindanao Container Port likewise, CdeO has still generating income beach resorts with hotels. For example, this Coco Bay Beach Resort and Harbor Lights. :colgate:

ORO’S OLD WATER TOWER TO BE CONVERTED TO A MUSEUM (http://balatucan.wordpress.com/2008/09/20/oros-old-water-tower-to-be-converted-to-a-museum/)

Local government engineers and workers are rushing the restoration of the Old Water tower near Gaston Park which city hall wants to turn into a museum and archives center in time for the city’s hosting of the National Archives Day on october 21.
Mayor Constantino Jaraula said the restoration project aims to boost tourism in Cagayan de Oro. the tower cum museum would showcase a wide range of collections of memento, documents and records which have relevant historical and cultural value.
Aside form safekeeping valuable local historical records and materials as an archives center of the city, Jaraula hopes that a restored tower would relive its significance in the city’s history. The tower is considered one of the oldest pre war edifices in Cagayan de Oro.
Jaraula said the refurbishment would include the installation oof a spiral steel staircase at the back of the tower that would serve as a main passage in going atop the tower. it will have a reinforced viewing deck to provide a 360 degree panoramic view of the city. A glass enclosed elevator will be installed on either side of the water tower in order to give its facade a modern look.
The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2008 National Archives Day next month. it will be a joint undertaking if the city government and the Executive Council of the National Archives Committee of the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts.

Stage 5 - Balubal and Puerto. Is this the one labeled as Existing Node
area?

^^Nasa stage 1 yung sa Bulua (Ayala and Floriendo properties), may tendency na mauna pang madevelop ito kaysa Alegria into business district.

Garabe, todo na 'to. Mao ning giingon ni abugagong_ponggok nga gusto daw niya sa CDO kay may klarong future.:cheers::cheers::cheers:

A testimony for Sagpulon Falls:

http://www.stormpages.com/mysticwaters/sagpulon/sagpulon1.jpg
http://www.stormpages.com/mysticwaters/sagpulon/sagpulon.jpg

Ever been stuck in an out-of-town assignment, with no plans for the weekend? I have, and I woke up in bed one weekend, only to realize I'm far from home, away from my comfort zone. Alone in Cagayan de Oro City, and bored at the mere thought of strolling along Limketkai, I headed to Sagpulon Springs and Waterfalls, which I first saw on the cover of the local telephone directory.

Hidden in the pineapple plantation valleys and coconut-covered hills on the outskirts of Cagayan de Oro City, Baranggay San Isidro (Municipality of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental) contains one of the most enchanting waterfalls I had ever seen.

Sagpulon is nestled in the middle of a verdant forest, lush with vegetation. The waterfalls cascade by about 100 feet to an icy but refreshing basin below. Spring water pour out in rivulets from the wall of the sheer cliff. As I gaze up at the blue sky, a lone eagle peacefully glides back and forth on top of the gorge, guarding its beautiful realm.

THE WAY:The trailhead, at the main highway going to Jasaan, is an hour's drive away from Cagayan de Oro City. By jeepney, take one going to Agora Market, and then take a connecting jeep going to Jasaan. Remind the driver to drop you off at the trailhead. You can take a motorela (carriages smaller than jeepneys but larger than tricycles) to take you to the waterfalls. But the best way to experience Sagpulon is to hike into it (for about one and a half-hours) on a dusty 6-kilometer road that will take you through a scenic countryside. At one point, you will see streams flowing on both sides of the road. How idyllic!

Garabe, todo na 'to. Mao ning giingon ni abugagong_ponggok nga gusto daw niya sa CDO kay may klarong future.:cheers::cheers::cheers:

This is my analysis regarding CdeO's rapid progression.

CBD--I think CBD here still refers to the City Proper, excluding the new commercial districts of Cagayan de Oro: the surrounding areas of Kagay-an (where Paseo del Rio is located), Pelaez (where CDOICC, Nanuri International School, Kagay-an Resort, proposed transfer of Court of Appeals, proposed Korean Community, and proposed Sta. Lucia High End Community are/will be located), and Puntod-Kauswagan bridges (CORDAVILLE), and the conversion of 4ID Camp Evangelista into another commercial/residential district (the same fate of what happened to Bonifacio Camp before in Taguig (now Global City). :)

West Uptown Urban Expansion--Yes, you're right out there! This is the existing Pueblo de Oro, Xavier Estates and Crown Communities. SM City and Link2Support are there. :okay:

Stage 1-A (BULUA-BAYABAS)--Most of vast lot of Floirendos were already sold to Ayalas. Ayalas had already a plan regarding what investment will it be in their vast property (especially the fishponds/marshes) in Bulua. Bulua is now a booming barangay due to West Bound Terminal, new BIR building, under construction Tropical Hut Hotel, Golden Haven, the coming of various commercial establishments, pottery industry with high quality that can even be exported abroad. In the meantime, there is this complementary progression that supports the urban growth of Bulua. This is the mushrooming of low-cost (affordable) subdivisions in Iponan and Barra, Opol nowadays. Kinasanghan, Iponan will be the stop-over of the jeepneys in the near future traveling to new Laguindingan Airport with international standard. This is just the proposal of the city government.

A proposed road that will connect Puntod-Kauswagan bridge will speed up the progress of Bayabas and Bulua, and even Iponan and part of CdeO's economic empire, Opol. ^^

Barangay Bayabas (aside of one of the public beach resorts of CdeO) will be blazed with progression once the Puntod-Kauswagan Bridge be completely operational, and to think that the barangay will be part of the proposed reclamation where big time national and foreign businessmen will invest.

Stage 1-B (CORDAVILLE)--Surrounding areas of Puntod-Kauswagan bridge where both small and big time investors had already plans to put business establishments once the bridge would be operational. Until now, Puntod-Kauswagan bridge is not yet completely operational. :colgate:

Stage 2 (SOUTHERN EXPANSION OF THE CITY)--These are the 480 hectare Ayala Property (where the Ayala Business Park/Satellite City including the underconstruction Alegria Hills Community will rise), and the more than 300 hectare Fil-Estate (now Sta. Lucia and Vista Land) property (including the hills of the already popular annual HORSE TRAIL EVENT).

Meanwhile, barangay Nazareth and Macasandig are indeed booming nowadays that will complement Ayalas' proposed business park too.

Most of all, the proposed new 4 lane national highway from Camaman-an going to Libona, Bukidnon will make the Satellite City another Puerto. In other words, the proposed Ayala Business Park and Fil-Estate projects will be speed up. ;)

Stage 3 (LUMBIA AIRPORT and the airport's surrounding areas)--Either converted into new commercial and residential complex or the transfer of 4ID Camp Evangelista.

Stage 4 (Tablon)--Aside of having this gigantic Nestle Plant, other industrial plants and privately owned seaport, is this all about the "BIG" establishment not too faraway from NFA bodega? The point is that this proposed multi-billion JICA road (Japanese sponsored) will pass by Nestle Plant up to Taekwood Hills, Agusan-Balubal. A Brown has 40 hectares in the Agusan-Balubal areas, and this big time estate developer is planning nowadays to buy additional vast property and is planning to put a commercial complex.

Stage 5 (Balubal-Puerto)--As we know, there is this Balubal Community City College, A Brown's Taekwood Hills that will bring growth in this remote upland barangay, while the proposed JICA Road will speed up Mr. Brown's high end residential project. There is this proposal that the vast agricultural property of Balubal will be planted with cassavas, tuba-tuba, and other plants that are ingredients for biofuel. If this will be materialized in the near future, their vast agricultural outputs will serve the soon to come Biofuel Plants by big foreign and national investors at barangay Bayanga and Mambuaya.

Puerto (being near to Bugo's Del Monte and the home of other big industrial plants), in the meantime, is already progressive and the area is much like barangay Carmen. Puerto's progression has been speed up due to its strategic location going to the province of Bukidnon and Davao City.

Well, Don Stephen Gaisano has already a property at Puerto not very far from Puerto Market. We don't know that he will follow Donkoy's proposal two years ago to build another Gaisano Mall to decongest the traffic, specifically at CdeO-Butuan and CdeO-Bukidnon National Highways. Likewise, the new market of Puerto, which will be more bigger and modern will somehow speed up Puerto's economy and in general, the City of Golden Opportunities. No other but Cagayan de Oro City, the phenomenal city in the Mindanao island.

***If Donkoy will be mayor again in 2010, a one-stop shopping area (in Upper Zayas, Carmen) where all government offices will be located. So another urban expansion of Cagayan de Oro. The vice mayor has been determined regarding that proposal.

Not to mention the another "near future inevitable real progress" that will be brought by the new Laguindingan Airport (soon that will become international ) and multi-billion dollar Hanjin Shipbuilding IF WALA LANG GULO OR MANGGUGOLO. :D
