THE DUBAI GUYS October 17th, 2008, 09:00 PM Sama Dubai invites firms to express interest in Falcon island work

Local developer Sama Dubai has invited contractors to express interest in the dredging works on its Falcon island project.
The island, which will look like a falcon when viewed from above, will be built close to the Burj al-Arab hotel.
The scheme is in its early stages and the masterplan has not been completed.
However, it is expected to follow a similar development model to other island projects in the emirate.
The consultant is Royal Haskoning of the Netherlands.
Falcon island joins Sama's considerable project portfolio in the emirate, which includes the Lagoons at Ras al-Khor and the Jumeirah Hills development at Dubai Police Academy, close to the Burj al-Arab (MEED 7:7:08).

Chrisel October 20th, 2008, 08:52 AM I remember coming across this post by Julito-dubai in the 'Projects gossip: proposals for the UAE' thread a while back.
Not sure if it's been changed from its concept drawings.
At least the observation tower isn't as awkwardly placed as the Eiffel in Falcon city.
Falcon Island?

much better
Dark Matter February 17th, 2009, 08:19 PM The original design was good, but this is a damn good design.
Naz UK February 17th, 2009, 09:14 PM WTF? I thought there was a blanket ban on drugs since our main supplier got hit by a few subprime related problems in Columbia? Where is General Dhahi... wait 'til he hears about this... oh, he's busy issuing commercial death threats he has no intention, nor jurisdiction, to ever carry out. Maybe General Dhahi should run for Mayor of London or New York?
Dark Matter February 17th, 2009, 09:47 PM Subtle. lol
Parisian Girl February 18th, 2009, 12:35 AM Thx Chakazoolu

I thought this was scrapped?? At least this is what I heard ages ago. Must admit this design is way better than that first crap, but still, u wouldn't want to look out of your very expensive hotel room window at Burj Al Arab and see this mess now would u!? :ohno:

Well imagining myself at the Burj Al Arab looking out there... It would be a nice view. Atleast to me. For one I wouldn't be staring into a blank ocean. It's nice but it wears after a while. And secondly I don't think it's a bad design. Granted there are more islands than needed, but that can easily be revised.
But I doubt this will be made anyway and if it was/is they do need to scrap some of the islands.

Oh I agree, this is a much better design, but I just feel there is way too much happening along the coastline of Dubai. They seriously need to put their house in order and stop coming up with this kind of nonsense all the time. Finish what's needs to be finished first I say! :)
But I doubt this will be made anyway Can u give us any real guarantees on that? ;) :D
Hollie Maea February 18th, 2009, 05:47 AM Of course this won't be built. That website says March 2007...long before the Dubai dream burst.
KingMoody February 18th, 2009, 05:48 AM So you reckon it might be shelved?
Adam2707 February 18th, 2009, 12:42 PM Personally I don't think that it even made it of the final design stages. And as Hollie Maea says the design isn't new. If you look closely you can see the same island design in this animation on the Jumeirah Hills project, at about 0:55-1:00.
