Kinda outdated if you ask me but nevertheless....interesting base design and an engineering marvel of its time. Kinda reminds me of Menara MPPJ.......:)

dekechemist February 14th, 2008, 09:58 PM I'm quite less certain on what basis you made stating that the building design is out-of-date. Well, to tell you what, it was raised in 1980's, not sure the specific year. So I assume that you have not yet read the history about the building itself. Still, you can think about it in common sense, you could make an assumption that the building must be built about a decade ago, architects during 1980's would hardly came up a 21th century design as they couldn't predict what kind of building would be look like nowadays.

Formerly known as Yayasan Sabah Building, this 30 storey circular glass building is supported by high tensile steel rods throughout its structure, an architectural and engineering marvel. It is one of only four such buildings in the world. Built with bold architectural and engineering concepts, it is a building that many thought was not possible. There were also many prophets of doom who predicted that it could not be built as designed, as it was the first of its kind in Asia. They were all wrong because Yayasan Sabah (Sabah Foundation) Headquarters has not only been built, but has become one of the most famous and admired buildings in the country.
The tower-like Tun Mustapha Tower has been likened to a modern Taj Mahal, which changes its colours throughout the day, depending on the clouds, sun and ever changing colours of the sky. This might have been a reason for this building to be one of the main tourist and photographers attractions in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Located 5 kilometres or about 15 minutes away from the KK City Centre. Formerly known as the Sabah Foundation Building, this circular tower of steel and glass stands 30 storeys high in the Likas Bay area and is instantly recognizable as a Sabah icon. It has a central core with steel brackets supporting each floor. When completed in 1977, it was one of the three such buildings in the world based on this design concept.
Inside are housed an auditorium, two mini-theatres, exhibition foyer, a gymnasium, kindergarten and Research library. On the 18th floor is the revolving restaurant Atmosphere where you can enjoy a different dining experience.
