Iran launches projects in Beirut

Israel targeted civilian areas in Beirut during the 33-day war.
Iran has launched reconstruction projects in south Beirut, an area that was heavily damaged during the 33-day Israeli war against Lebanon.

The head of Tehran's Islamic City Council, Mehdi Chamran, inaugurated the projects in southern Beirut on Friday, IRNA reported.

A number of Lebanese officials including the mayors of different parts of Beirut attended a ceremony which was held to inaugurate the projects and hailed Iran's reconstruction efforts in Beirut.

"The participation of the Tehran Municipality in reconstruction of southern Beirut reflects the Iranian nation's support for the Lebanese nation and Hezbollah," Chamran noted.

"This (Iran's participation in reconstruction of Beirut) shows that the Lebanese nation is not alone and the freedom loving countries like Iran will support the Lebanese people and their resistance against the enemy," he added.

Building bridges, a football field and 38,000 square meters of green spaces are among the undertakings to be carried out by Iran in the area.

Hmm... Well for one, I am super happy Iran is going to build a green space. Have you seen their green spaces? Absolutely amazing!

But I am going to assume they will Hizballah-fy it like they did the southern park on the border, where Irani-Hizb flags mark it all and a central mosque is there... It's no longer a public park, but a political stance.

I can't help but feel though this is in retaliation to the war of words between Narallah and Hariri too about who helped build Lebanon... gha just dumb if this is out of spite.

But I will stay optimistic and dream that Iran is going to build a Leb version of Tehran's Fire and Ice Public park:D

Edit: LOL at "freedom loving countries"

Lebanon is creating problems for itself by letting Iran build stuff there and gain influence. Iran isn't building projects there because they are so kind and want to help everyone. They have other motives in mind, especially in such a key strategic location.

You are likely right, but the construction permits there don't really fall under governmental control:| It was just a few days ago that people threw a fit because buildings are being closed if individuals keep building on public property... if you can make sense of how they can protest that, then you can understand why the country as a whole likely has no say in whether Iran builds or not
