lol. I like how close Partizan and Red Star's stadiums are to eachother. This is pretty uncommon in big city rivalries, especially when there are only two big teams in the city.

Official name is Stadium Red Star but nobody say to this stadium Red Star. I mean 99% of Serbs say Marakana and Reporter/TV worldwide say Marakana too.

Any plans to renovate it? One of (probably the most) historic stadiums in the Balkans but it looks a bit past its time.

There are always "plans" - but money & lack of initiative is the main problem.

Right now, as it seems, Partizan's stadium will be renovated first - just yesterday, their administration has even suggested they might play at Marakana while their stadium is being rebuilt - redicolous :nuts:

Personaly I don't like it either.With some improvements Marakana is a great stadion.

That redesign would make it worse. All it really needs is a facelift.

Partizan's stadium could use some major reconstruction, but I think the Marakana is excellent as it is. It is like Old Trafford, where it feels old but timeless. It is meant to last for generations.

Historically the stadium have a great name, we cant deny it, but this is the only plus. The architecture is totally from another time. Non functional, old, with athletics track,.......for sure a piece of architecture to be rebuild.

It will be a completly new stadium,at the same place.They are getting the construction permits,but it is very complicated,they are probably waiting also for new Sports Law,so the groundbrakeing will be this year,or early next.As i said,there is almost no info on the stadium itself,no pics of inside of the stadium...

It will take a hosting of the Summer Olympics for Belgrade to get a new Marakana, though I doubt Belgrade may host a Summer Olympics soon.)

Well,according to the project for the new stadium,it won't have a tartan track,so the Olympics wouldn't do anything about it,and Olympics won't be in this region for a very long time :)

Some of the most expensive real estate in Belgrade is right near by this stadium.

There's nothing official,but all the fans(including me) want to give the stadium that name.Currently it doesn't have a specific name,except the formal "Crvena zvezda stadium",and the least we could do for the biggest legend that ever played in our club is to name the stadium after him,Rajko Mitic.
