Move the big "spire" tower just to the left of Main Place and I'd like it even more. Besides, where it's drawn there would be right in the middle of Church Street. Although traffic congestion it would cause probably wouldn't be worse than what the current signals cause.

Finest collection of photos I have seen not made by the forumers BuffCity and SpartaRoolz (NMOPhoto). I can't believe I didn't see this in the first place. Every time I see Buffalo, I always miss it and am eager to get back and see it! Thanks for posting these, StormShadow. I like the fact you live in NYC and you show great photos of upstate cities as well. It definitely proves there's a lot more to New York State than NYC, a LOT more.

I love that show! Someone needs to make sure he gets to the right bars. He loves a good party and if you want positive press- show that guy a good time. That is the kind of show that can influence people to visit.

He was close to choosing Buffalo out of a few other locations but Saudi Arabia won his selection. But there are articles stating he has plans to visit very soon, especially during winter seasons. I believe he will be featured with "Nelson Starr" also.

Nope.

1) It's regular Genny that's depicted, not Genny Cream. Gotta' have the Green Death to help those wings move through your system!
2) Kurtz? WTF kind of mustard is that? Is that some kind of Canadian abomination or something? Weber's or GTFO.
3) No horseradish at the table. Sure, you don't use horeseradish with wings, but at any proper blue-collar gin mill, it's going to be at the table, no questions asked.
4) Celery? Where's the celery?
5) What am I going to do with the wing "empties", throw them on the floor like peanuts at a Ground Round? Where's my wooden bowl, damnit?

EDIT: wing sauce looks authentic and properly applied for "wet" wings (as opposed to the "dry" wings served by some places), they have decent meatiness (e.g. not anorexic BW3-like wings), and the tips are cut off.

You can tell that Elmwood is in a lot better mood these days.

That's actually a good observation. I think the date might be wrong... Usually the leaves start coming out around early May. The trees should not be bare by late May as they are in that photo.

What are those larger building in that photo? What golf course is that?

Also, that was the spring following the October storm. Things did seem to bloom awful late that year, and that was probably a good part of the reason why.

That is Veterans Hospital at center. Off to the left is UB South. The golf course is Grover Cleveland Park.

This image has been floating around the nets for about a year or so. It shows a lake effect storm hitting downtown. Anyone familiar with lake effect knows how sharp the edge of the storm can be. You can go from bright sun to whit-out within a few blocks. I believe that the storm shown here dropped only a few inches of snow but lake effect storms can leave huge piles of show in the 3 feet range. They are very beautiful events unless you don't like snow for some reason.

When they shut off Niagara Falls back in the 1970's

They found two skeletons in the rocks. I saw that on Discovery. The Falls flow at 50%. At night, they shut them down even more as they divert more water to the power station. If they let it flow at 100% it would flood the tourist areas.

I was just back in Buffalo last week and I went to the game on Friday night. What a game it was. Buffalo really needed it. I saw the old Aud in the process of coming down- sad to see it go. The Cobblestone district looks nice- we went to a new sports bar before the game. There are a few nice buildings that have been renovated as well. There is still a ton of potential. I saw Larry Quinn at the game and we talked about a number of things- mainly hockey but we talked about the Canalside and I mentionedd the Donovan building and he said that they are on the fence as to whether they will re-use it or demolish it. It seemed like he was leaning toward demolishing it. There is a little inside info for you.

Do you know where this was taken? Row houses are pretty rare in Buffalo.

That is Emerson Place on the east side. This neighborhood actually had several sets or row houses at one time. Sadly most are gone. These were in very bad shape at one time too. I don't know what condition they are in now.

Actually when I took this there were about 15 boats tied up to this dock behind me (around the corner) with some kind of party going on.

Well I think that's the sort of picture that's better left without alot of people anyways. And not to say there isn't any activity there; I myself have noticed quite the contrary in the times I've been there. Now imagine when there's actually something to do (for us non-boating types) besides just walk around and/or sit and read.

haven't been to buffalo since i was little and then it was only once for a few hours but i would like to get out there one of these days. born and raised in upstate and never got around to exploring any of the state though i've been all over expect long island.

Do you know what they plan to do with Alumni Arena after the new athletic center is complete?

Alumni Arena won't be going anywhere. Basically, there's a severe shortage of space for both athletes and non-, and I forget how it'll go -- whether Alumni will be mainly for athletes and the new building for general recreation or the other way around -- but that's the idea.

I attended UB from 2001-03, and even back then there were serious plans underway to build something for the non-athletes. But there was a changing of presidents in '03, and with that a major capital project the fitness center would've been a part of got shelved. But now things are happening, and between the lack of physical space and the fact that pretty much every major university has built some kind of a fitness center this decade, UB's more or less just playing catch-up.

It's kind of sick to see how much light [pollution] the Niagara Falls Blvd and Transit Road strips emit. Brighter than downtown, for crissakes.

I took this one from the roof of that M&T anchor parking garage on the Bison's opening game day back in April. What a beautiful day! I swear that building is straight out of London, the old post office is such a great addition to our downtown architectural diversity. With ECC growing, hopefully we can get more development in that area. See my second post on BRO pertaining to this matter here.
