mlm October 23rd, 2008, 09:06 PM VISTA Herning - Herning, Denmark
vista-herning.dk - The official building website (http://www.vista-herning.dk/)
Introduction:
The VISTA Herning highrise is part of the larger "DGI Parken" which is one of the largest construction projects in the history of Herning. The project was first proposed back in 2005 and construction was finally started in April 2008 after years of planning and negotiantions between the many involved parts. The visual highlight, the residential highrise, was originally proposed as a 20 storey building (70-75 meters) and even highered at one point of the process (~27 floors). In the end they ended up agreeing on 12 floors, after the developer KPC-BYG had feared not to be able to sell all the apartments in a 20+ storey tower. However, they managed to sell most of the apartments in the first few weeks, despite prices and sizes much higher than the normal here in Herning. 13 of the 22 apartments are more than 200 squaremeters with pricetags between 5-6 million Danish Kroner (~670.000-800.000 €).
Beside the highrise, the complex will also consist of:
The 9000 sqm "waterculture center", which is inspired by DGI-Byen in Copenhagen and DGI-Huset in Århus.
7 Storey DGI Hotel with around 155 rooms.
4 Storey Mediahouse for Medihuset Herning Folkeblad incl a media café.
Healthcare center.
Parking garage with 300 parking places.
3000 sqm plaza in front of the building.
Facts:
45 m
12 floors
Apartments: 22
Water Culture (floor 1-3) / Residential (floor 4-12)
Undergorund parking for 300 cars.
Estimated price for the entire project: ~500 million Danish Kroner (in 2005)
Proposed on August 9, 2005.
Approved on December 19, 2006.
Construction started on April 9, 2008.
Expected opening: October 10, 2010 (10/10/2010)

The latest good photo I have of the construction site, it's from May 2008. The large area in front is where the parking garage will be, while the complex itself will be behind it. Today it looks quite different, I'll add some new photos soon.

AtlanticaC5 October 23rd, 2008, 11:16 PM So this is what ended up of the 27-storey proposal? Sad.. :( Well atleast a highrise is always a highrise, but it could have been so much more.
mlm October 23rd, 2008, 11:25 PM /\ Yes sad indeed. But atleast I'm glad the project made it through some very hard times with all the planning and negotiation betweent the involved parts. At one point the project was extremly close to being dead, so this is surely better than nothing.
TMG October 24th, 2008, 08:59 AM Two highrises under construction at the same time in Herning - congratulations:-) Not many cities in Denmark apart from Copenhagen has that statistic, if any.
ØlandDK October 24th, 2008, 10:53 AM ^^
Vejle maybe? :)
But yes it's sad we didn't end up with the 27 storey tower which IMO also is the one that looks the best (from the proposals of course). But better a small highrise than none. :)
mlm October 24th, 2008, 03:22 PM /\ I think only one of "De 5 søstre" is U/C in Vejle (probably soon to be completed).
mlm October 25th, 2008, 02:08 PM Went by the construction site today and a lot has happend since the last update. In the back row of buildings, one has been demolished to make room for the hotel. To the right the Mediahouse is now at full height (topping out ceremony was this week) and in front the 3 storey parking garage has now been digged out and filled with concrete elements. All the way in the front they're now making the entrance to the parking garage:

Þróndeimr November 14th, 2008, 09:47 PM Nice renderings and construction updates. Tower alone looks okey, nothing special really, Queens Corner looks better. :)
mlm February 8th, 2009, 04:16 PM One from today. Parking garage and mediahouse will soon be completed:

mlm March 29th, 2009, 10:26 PM Here's a little update from the construction site. Parking garage is almost finished and will be opende soon. Mediahouse is also soon completed, think they'll start using it in late summer.
They are also well underway with the foundation for the DGI house itself, so also for both hotel and residential highrise which both will be located on top of the DGI building.
Foundation of the DGI house and the highrise:

Closer look at the almost finished mediahouse. Soon this view will be totally blocked:

The "usual" overview from northwest. A new plaza with buss lanes will be made on top of the parking garage within the next month or so:
http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/dgi/09-03-29-03.jpg
Finally a pano from the "inner courtyard". Right now they're working on the lower floors, later the 7 storey hotel will be build on top of this and extended in between the 2 buildings to the right:

mlm March 29th, 2009, 10:41 PM And a little rendering of the garage. Nothing speciel and exactly as one could imagine:

Ingenioren March 30th, 2009, 04:09 PM Nice touch with different colours for each floor:D
Wallaroo April 20th, 2009, 12:25 AM So this is what ended up of the 27-storey proposal? Sad.. :( Well atleast a highrise is always a highrise, but it could have been so much more.So who are the idiots responsible for the height being reduced to pathetic 12 floors?
mlm July 5th, 2009, 02:04 PM ^^ KPC whos building it since they were affraid they couldn't sell all the apartments. turned out they sold like 75 % of them in the first few days though, so maybe it could have been possible to sell more. Anyway, the whole project was in big danger of being cancalled and I'll take a 12 storey over nothing anyday. Overall it's still a pretty big project. :)
And now to the construction site. Today they added the last parts of the tower crane, so it's time to move upwards. The crane is 75 meters to the top and lifting height is 60 m.
From an hour or so ago:

I also added a bunch of photos to my website about two weeks ago, you can see them HERE (http://www.herningshuse.dk/nyheder.php?nid=52), should anyone be interested.
mlm February 13th, 2010, 04:24 PM A few shots from today, the highrise part is now finally rising fast:

Xed February 13th, 2010, 04:47 PM Good to see, thanks, mlm. I am really looking foreward to see the final result. I think it will be great :)
mlm February 13th, 2010, 05:32 PM ^^ I think the low black/glassy part will end up quite nice, while the highrise and hotel parts will be a bit so so. Not really a big fan of those white concrete elements, atleast they could have done the facade like the mediahouse (http://www.herningshuse.dk/billeder/nyheder/52/02.jpg) with the ehhh "puds"..I think that turned out quite okay.
mlm March 29th, 2010, 01:51 PM A lot of things going on at the consruction site at the moment. The hotel is now at full height (7 floors) and the highrise is at 8 floors (of 12). You can now also see the first parts of the glass of the lower building, looks pretty nice, and more or less exatcly like on the renderings. They have also started working on the plaza on front, something I have rather high hopes for. In the middle there'll be a buss lane, towards DGI a "granite landscape" with water installations and room for outdoor café serving, and on the opposite site (front of the photo) a "green landscape" with different things for activities like climbing, skating, basketball etc. I'll try to find the a rendering.

Today they also started installing the little "skybridge" between the hotel and the congresscenter on the other side of the street:

mlm May 23rd, 2010, 08:24 PM Just a quick shot from today, the building is topped out now, they still need some work on the outside though:

sayeed2699 July 31st, 2010, 02:09 PM At last, one of my dream project, that I helped in designing, Is coming to reality! :)
mlm July 31st, 2010, 02:16 PM ^^ Cool, do you work at Aarstiderne or something, or used to?
Btw, the local paper wrote that the floor on the topfloor is 46 meter above ground, which would make the total height around ~49 meters. If true it is the tallst building in town. I've writtin to my contact at Aarstiderne, but she's on vacation at the moment.
mlm September 23rd, 2010, 08:17 PM This complex is nearing completion, opening of the DGI house itself will be december 3rd, and I also think the hotel will open the same date. The apartments are supposed to be ready in the beginnig of 2011.
Today I was on a guided tour in the DGI house and the hotel. There's still A LOT to do before they can open, but you can now really start to feel how it will end up. I, and all the others guests (some 50-100) seem really exited about the project, it's actually quite impressive inside. :)
Took a bunch of snapshots, they don't all do the place justice though:
The entrance arena:

Part of the huge fitness area:

And here from above through a glass window:

...and the other half:
http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/dgi/rundvisning052.jpg
Now moving up to the roof, here there'll be some different things like spas and sauna. The hotel is in the background, it's connected to the DGI House:
http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/dgi/rundvisning06.jpg
Outdoor spa and the big sauna in the background:

Still from the roof, here towards the residential part:

Same again, just from the other side of the roof. I think this is supposed to be for all kinds of fitness and so:

bamsefar September 24th, 2010, 04:18 PM This really looks good. The pools are very appealing.
mlm December 3rd, 2010, 08:17 PM DGI-huset and the hotel was opened today (opens for guests tomorrow). The apartments are expected to be ready for move in in january.
The DGI part also got itself a new website: DGI-huset Herning (http://www.dgi-husetherning.dk/).
mlm May 7th, 2011, 05:24 PM With the inauguration of "Kousgaards Plads" yesterday, the entire DGI Parken complex is now completed. Here's a bunch of shots from today:

IceCheese May 7th, 2011, 07:08 PM Very nice! I love projects that also gives a lot back to the neighborhood, as this one. Btw, is it something unusual in Denmark that bike-racks are free?:D
Alseimik May 7th, 2011, 07:27 PM Very nice! I love projects that also gives a lot back to the neighborhood, as this one. Btw, is it something unusual in Denmark that bike-racks are free?:D
No! But Herning is never been declared as usual Danish
mlm May 7th, 2011, 09:55 PM ^^ That's indeed weird, I haven't seen any pay bike racks anywhere...not even in Herning.
@ IceCheese: I think it has turned out quite well too, specially the plaza, the DGI-House itself, the Mediahouse and the surroundings. The high-rise is soso and the hotel exterior is quite bad with it's white concrete walls. The later is thankfully the least visible part of the entire complex, being almost hidden on top of another building.

Nice to see that Denmark "West", can produce such nice projects, allthough the area seems a little deserted, even on a saturday.
Hopefully we´ll se way more construction like this, over here.
:)
mlm May 9th, 2011, 08:58 PM ^^ Although it wasn't too filled with people, it wasn't as desserted as it looks either.
I always try to shot building photos with as few people/cars as possible. You'll notice the same trend throughout all my photothreads. ;)
Hafnia May 10th, 2011, 08:49 AM I always try to shot building photos with as few people/cars as possible. You'll notice the same trend throughout all my photothreads. ;)
Shouldn't be too difficult in your part of the world :)
mlm May 10th, 2011, 10:57 AM ^^ Guess I was asking for that one.
Sorry for trying to show some architecture here instead of masses of people. I know it doesn't belong here and I promise I'll never do it again.
ramblersen May 10th, 2011, 11:06 AM ^^ Guess I was asking for that one.
Sorry for trying to show some architecture here instead of masses of people. I know it doesn't belong here and I promise I'll never do it again.
Yeah bad, bad boy! You should ALWAYS make sure to have at least one hot air baloon, a few happy children flying their kites and one extremely hot chick in every picture. That is how they make the renderings so I suppose that is the context the buildings are supposed to appear in. Don't you know anything about architecture man?:ohno:
Thanks for the great pictures, the building looks good.:)
Pisling May 10th, 2011, 11:12 AM It's quite funny, though: In most renderings there's always a lot of happy-happy-joy-joy-people and life in and around the buildings, whereas most completed architecture look best without a lot of distracting elements – like people, cars, dogs etc.
...and yes, your photos are of course great as always, mlm :)
