Hidden 'heaven' of Guinpana-an
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/kaitulariecotourism.jpg
HIDDEN right at the heart of Negros island lies a paradise of leisure and adventure. This is the Kaitulari mountain resort.
Kaitulari is carved in a 25-hectare crescent landscape where two rivers meet, hugging the cool ambiance of a languid river on its toes-being fed by mineral springs upstream.
Named after an expression "Kay to Larry" (at Larry's), Kaitulari is where you could experienced a total relaxation, fun, and adventure combined.
With only an hour an half drive from Bacolod City to Barangay Guinpana-an in Moises Padilla town (formerly Magallon), visitors can beat the heat and drive worries away with the cool flowing waters of its river pool.
Its pristine Piguiwan River is a perfect place for the adventurous where ones got to test their adrenaline rush through river tubing or trek the river and see the Bridal Veil Falls, "Amlig sa Suba," "Busay sg Diwata sa Talon" and "Santuario para sa Bayawak."
And to further enhance what meets the eyes, artworks were added that transform the uncanny nook into spellbinding spectacles of garden setting that truly conforms to the natural contours and attributes of the whole landscape. All in all, the result is stunning.

DepEd, Capitol set to dialog on Paglaum Sports Complex
The Department of Education has set a meeting with the provincial government and Negros Occidental High School stakeholders to discuss the fate of the Paglaum Sports Stadium in Bacolod City.
We are presenting the DepEd a master plan for the development of the Paglaum Sports Complex in order to make it self sustaining and to support NOHS in improving it teaching capability, he said.
The sports stadium needs major structural examination and repair to make it safe for the students and the public who use it, Valencia said. If we improve the facilities the students can go into sports activities other than just basketball and football, he added. full story (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2006/April/06/topstory12.htm)
Guv to present Paglaum plan
The Negros Occidental provincial government is coming up with a master plan for the development of the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City that it will present to the Department of Education.
Meanwhile, Leonardia said it was not the city that had proposed to change the name of the Paglaum Complex to the Bacolod City Sports Stadium, although he agreed to it, especially that it would have been a good chance to promote the city internationally during the hosting of the Southeast Asian Games. full story (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2006/March/28/topstory9.htm)

Bacolod, Long Beach set to explore trade relations
Mayors Evelio Leonardia of Bacolod City and Bob Foster of Long Beach, California, both expressed their desire for stronger ties between the two cities during a meeting Monday.
"We shall now start exploring business and trade relations between our cities and extend our relations beyond educational, cultural and technical exchanges," Leonardia said.
He also said he had discussed this with the Commission of Sister Cities of Bacolod and the Business and Economic Council of the city before he left for the US last week.
In January 2006, Leonardia also met with the mayor of Long Beach during which they reactivated the sister-city relations that had become dormant in the past years. source (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2006/November/23/topstory4.htm)

Well, Silay is part of Metropolitan Bacolod. Sta. Barbara and Cabatuan is a bit too far from Iloilo to be considered as such... perhaps the name should be Iloilo Province International Airport? Hope that satisfies your question.

Cebu Pacific - Taxiing for Rwy 4 at Bacolod (RPVB)

Description of 1st colrow pic: Bacolod airport (RPVB) is a small, single runway airport with no taxiways. So like this Cebu Pacific DC-9, they have to taxi using the active runway to position for departure. Description of 2nd colrow pic: This picture is awash in color. A Cebu Pacific DC-9 in 'City of Cebu' livery departing Bacolod (RPVB) Runway 4 in the afternoon with the Bacolod terminal in the background. This is a small but beautiful airport full of detail and eye candy. Enjoy!

GMAX BACOLOD SUPERSCENERY Version 2005 is a product of months of Scenery research and innovation. This scenery is a one-of-a-kind Flight Simulation Scenery wherein its boasts of its FULL ANIMATION FEATURE which can mostly be found in payware addons. Featured in the product are the following realistic animations:
1. Air Traffic controllers moving inside the tower.
2. Detailed baggage carts moving from the cargo section to the ramp.
3. Moving passengers walking from the Bacolod Airport Pre-Departure Area to the aircraft airstairs.

10. Rocking fishing boats and bancas located along the Approach path of Runway 04. All of these make GMAX BACOLOD SUPERSCENERY very, very realistic. And because it’s made from Discreet’s GMAX, you’ll be assured of light framerate hits. Some of the features included in the scenery are the following:
1. Robinson’s Metro Bacolod Mall infront of the Bacolod Airport terminal.
2. Cebu Pacific Terminal building.
3. Asian Alcohol Hangar.
4. Jalandoni Hangar.
5. Palmas del Mar Water Tower.
6. Gumayan Air Charter Hangar, Negros Air Hangar
7. The famous and controversial Sugarland Hotel whose 4th storey level was ordered by the late ATO Chief Panfilo Villaruel be trimmed down due to Runway 22 obstruction. In the scenery, the location of the hotel is accurate and you can really determine whether Sugarland Hotel is really an obstruction to Runway 22 approach. To make this much more realistic, I activated the crash detection on the building so that aircrafts approaching Runway 22 can crash to the building when necessary or if incidents permit.
8. Goldenfield Garden Hotel which is now converted to Bacolod Casino Hotel. 9. Goldenfield Entertainment Complex. 10. Bacolod Convention Plaza.
11. Gaisano City-Bacolod
12. Bacolod Public Plaza with its bandstand.
13. Bacolod Cathedral Building.

@ Prettyme
IMHO, this is just a convention for the aviation sector, i.e., naming a new airport after the destination that it will serve, not after its location. That is why the NAIA was called Manila International Airport and not "Paranaque-Pasay International Airport". In cases where there are more than one operating airport in one destination, you may affix the location or a second name to the airport, e.g., New York-JFK, New York-La Guardia, New York-Newark, Chicago-O'Hare, Chicago-Midway, London-Heathrow, London-Stanstead, etc.
In Iloilo's case the new airport will be known as the "Iloilo Airport", primarily because there are no plans to operate the old airport further after the new one is opened to traffic. The old airport will be converted into a new business district.
In Bacolod's case, if they have no plans to close the old airport, they can always have two airports: Bacolod-Silay and Bacolod-Sum-ag.
Bacolod-Silay and Bacolod Singcang would be more appropriate.

I think you should separate Buddhism and fengshui. like not all chinese are buddhist and not all chinese uses fengshui. get what i mean bro? like the difference between religion and superstitions? fengshui is a superstition while buddhism is a religion. though some if not most mixed the them (buddhism=Taoism=fengshui=Chinese).

33M Sheet Piles For Cadiz Port Project Arrives
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/cadizcityportdevt.jpg
Construction workers finished unloading yesterday the 395 pieces of sheets piles, which will be used for the ongoing Cadiz City Commercial Port, located at Barangay Banquerohan, in this northern city.
Cadiz Mayor Salvador G. Escalante Jr. in a statement to local mediamen said the arrival of the materials would hasten the construction of port project.
The 20-meter long sheet piles were imported directly from South Korea at about 1,500 U.S. Dollars each. It is estimated that the total cost of the materials, including shipment and EVAT, would reach 33 Million Pesos.
The 300-tonner barge carrying the Pile Sheets arrived early morning Tuesday. It took about 22 hours for the cargo to be unloaded non-stop as the last of the sheet pile was unloaded about six in the morning yesterday.
The mayor said the sheet piles would be used as main protection of the port to keep the piled boulders from rolling off the sea. As of this week, an estimated 800-meter causeway was already constructed.
The barge “Jonavi” was chartered by the J. Vitangcol Construction Company, the contractor of the port project. The barge left about noontime Wednesday for Bohol for the delivery of several construction equipments, where the same contractor has currently undertaking several projects.

Mayor vows to open Sipalay airport next year
SIPALAY City Mayor Oscar Montilla Jr. is determined to operate an airport in their city next year to compliment the promotion of their "ala Boracay" beaches among the city's other natural wonders.
"If we can't use the airstrip of Maricalum Mining Corp. (MMC) at Barangay San Jose, we might utilize the airstrip of Philex Gold Mining Corporation (PGMC) in
Barangay Nabulao," Montilla said.
He, however, said they are really after MMC's airstrip "because of its viable location which is only two kilometers away from the City proper."
PGMC's airstrip, on the other hand, is about 45 minutes away from Sipalay poblacion.
Montilla said their City has a pending expropriation case for MMC's airstrip before the Court of Appeals in Cebu City, asking the court to allow the use of the facility while MMC is not yet in operation.
"But Mr. Teodoro Bernardino remains firm in not allowing anyone, not even the City or the province, to use their airstrip," Montilla said.
Montilla said Sipalay and the Provincial Government are willing to rent through offsetting the tax liabilities of MMC.
"I am even contemplating to ask President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's help on this matter," he said.
But if all else fails, Montilla said they will have to use the PGMC airstrip for their airport and tourism investment purposes, he added.
"This is free of charge but what we will do there is simply to clean up, regrade, recompact the area and put structure there like a shedhouse for the passengers. After which, we can accommodate lighter passenger planes like those 20 to 30-seater units," Montilla said.
If this happens soon, Montilla said that Sipalay, dubbed as "Jewel of Sugarlandia" and "Hiyas ng Turismo" awardee, is ready to host foreign and local tourists who wanted to experience both nature and adventure, the mayor added. source (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2006/12/06/bus/mayor.vows.to.open.sipalay.airport.next.year.html)

New gov't center to rise without using hollow blocks
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/bacolodnewgovcenterpropose.jpg
Spraycrete, world's newest hi-tech material will be used
THE controversial proposed new government center (NGC) in Bacolod will be constructed without using hollow blocks. If there will be hollow blocks, it would only be very minimal.
Lawyer Rogelio Peig II said Hilmarcs Construction Corp. will be using the world's newest high-tech material called spraycrete for the three-storey building.
"In case the City's Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) will finally award to us the contract for this government center, we will start the construction as soon as possible. And believe it or not, we will no longer use hollow blocks. Only spraycrete," Peig said.
Although it’s per square meter is expensive, spraycrete can reportedly create stunning designs quickly and economically for repair, re-surface, restore, re-texture as well as transforming existing concrete surfaces.
Originating from Australia, spraycrete has also been a proven technology in the world for the last 10 years.
In the country, Peig said Hilmarcs first used the spraycrete technology in its Makati's Rockwell Center.
If it gets the contract to build the Bacolod new government center, it will be the second building to avail of this modern construction material. cont'd (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2006/12/07/news/new.gov.t.center.to.rise.without.using.hollow.blocks.html)

ST. JOHN INSTITUTE- BACOLOD
ST. JOHN Institute (SJI) is set to break ground at its newest campus at Ayala North Point on Friday.
Sun.Star Network Online's 12th Asean Summit Watch
SJI administrator Reverend Father Noly Que LRMS, Ph.D. said Phase 1 of the school construction will consist of a 2-storey building with 13 classrooms for nursery and office areas.
Slated to begin construction this month, this initial building will sit on a total floor area of approximately 2,000 square meters. The building is scheduled to be completed before June 2007, in time for opening of classes for academic year 2007-2008.
This school branch is expected to complement the St. John's Institute in Hilado, Bacolod City which offers kindergarten to high school education.
Future expansion will include a sports complex and auditorium, covered basketball/badminton courts, and an 8-lane canopied swimming pool.
The new St. John Institute development will stand on a 5-hectare lot near the main entrance of Ayala North Point. Launched nine years ago by premier real estate developer Ayala Land Inc., (ALI) Ayala North Point is the premier residential address in Negros. It was designed as a fully-integrated residential subdivision following the village concept.
Today, the school is continuously reaching new heights and standards of excellence, offering its students the best opportunities for learning and the optimization of their individual potentials. cont'd (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2006/12/07/bus/a1.school.to.rise.in.a1.subdivision.html)

ST. JOHN HIGH SCHOOL- a Lasallian brother school address @ FR. GRATIAN MURRAY AFSC STREET, VILLAMONTE, BACOLOD CITY www.sjhsbacolod.org
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/stjohnhighschoolvillamontebacolod.jpg
Named after St. Joseph, the patron saint of the workers, St. Joseph's High School was established in 1960, on an adjoining lot of 1.3 hectares donated by the Honorable Alfredo Montelibano Sr. to the La Salle Brothers. It started with the forty-five (45) graduates of Immaculate Conception Free School charging with minimum fees. Affluent families of Bacolod City braced the construction of classrooms, library, science laboratories, work education building, and other needs financially. With all these, the school gained momentum to serve both graduates of the Immaculate Conception Free School and the adjacent public school – the Barrio Obrero Elementary School the succeeding years.
Although generally quite known locally, this institution has been mistakenly referred to as a branch of a bigger Manila school named St. Joseph College. Even in Negros, there are at least three schools that are similarly named (St. Joseph Academy in the town of E.B. Magalona which is just 20 kilometers from the city, St. Joseph High School in Inayawan, Municipality of Cauayan, Negros Occidental and St. Joseph's College in Canlaon City, Negros Occidental), thereby causing some unavoidable confusion even for the postal service. At times, St. Joseph's has also been misclassified as a supervised school
Through the years, growth in resource development was also slow due to the fact that only a few international and national funding agencies, philanthropic societies and foundations are aware of the fact that St. Joseph's is one of the La Salle district schools in the country. Grants and linkages may be more obtainable if St. Joseph's carried an internationally recognizable name, a name that also deserves for being a school close to the heart of its Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle.
In a bold move to capture the fifty years of Lasallian education that St. Joseph's has and is continuing to provide for children of low income families, the institution's stakeholders (students, parents, alumni, support staff, teachers and the La Salle Brothers of the Philippine District) proposed to adopt a new name. As a full member of the Lasallian family of Philippine district schools, St. Joseph's High School shall have its official name directly identify with the Founder of the De La Salle Brothers. In light of its present comprehensive spiritual and academic programs, long-term community service initiatives and its future development, this noble institution of learning started carrying the name “St. Joseph School - La Salle,” last school year 2005-2006.
The school hopes that this development would spur new and creative initiatives from among its present and future stakeholders to assure that the school can and will continue to serve the children of poor families in Negros in the Founder's name and with God's blessings, for another fifty, hundred or so years.
Today, as the only Catholic school in the heart of Barangay Villamonte, with its population of thirty-four thousand inhabitants of whom eighty-four (84%) percent belong to the working class, St. Joseph School - La Salle is proud to be one of the prime factors in the transition of once an underdeveloped area into a premiere barangay of Bacolod City. full story (http://www.sjhsbacolod.org/v2/history.htm)

Right. Instead of having something similar to the Nobel Prize each year, he decided to help schools instead. I wonder what other schools have a Henry Luce building? CPU in Iloilo has a Henry Luce Library while Silliman University has a Henry Luce Auditorium.

Teletech grand opening set; expansion in Bacolod eyed

(pix where the TeleTech presently operating @ Robinsons Metro Bacolod)
TeleTech Holdings Inc. vice president for operations and general manager Maulik Parekh yesterday said they will invite President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to grace the grand opening of their Bacolod facility early next year.
He said the grand opening ceremony is tentatively scheduled in February.
Parekh said the company is seriously considering expanding their Bacolod facility because of their initial success here. He said because there is a good flow of applicants coming in everyday, they believe they can add a few more seats and fill it with qualified people.
As far as expanding in the Visayas region, they are always looking for places that would turn out to be another Bacolod, Parekh said. Bacolod has set a good standard for what they look for in a community, cont'd> (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2006/December/12/businessnews2.htm)

Hello to Everyone,
This is actually my second message. The first one was when I found this forum back in the Spring. I can no longer find that post; it is probably in either the 3rd or 4th archive.
Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who posts on this forum, particularly those who post pictures of Bacolod and the other locales in Negros Occidental. I was originally born in Bacolod but my family came to Canada when I was a child. I have visited Bacolod and Negros Occidental once since we left and I must say I was quite smitten and it brought back a flood of fond memories. So I check this forum from time to time and, so far, I have not been disappointed.
You all must be very proud, which is quite refreshing considering that, where I am, many Filipinos (most of whom are not from Negros) are very negative about the Philippines.
Keep up the good work and, please, post more pictures of Bacolod or Negros Occidental. It reminds me of my childhood and allows me to show my Wife and kids where I came from (I really cannot call that place "home" anymore).

Shopping center to rise in Capitol lot next year
A group of Filipino-Chinese businessmen in Bacolod City will construct a shopping center at the Capitol lot at Gatuslao Street similar to the popular 168 Shopping Mall in Divisoria, Manila.
William Ong, president of owner-developer Bacolod Capitol Hill Land Development Corp., said they are investing about P100 million to develop the property where the "888 China Town Square" will rise soon.
He said the groundbreaking rites will be held on Dec. 15 and construction will start in January. The target opening date is in October next year.
Ong said they are leasing the 1.2-hectare property, formerly occupied by the Negros Occidental Tennis Association courts, from the Negros Occidental provincial government under a 35-year contract.
The two-storey shopping center, which will be constructed on 5,000-square meter area with parking space, will house 165 stalls and a supermarket.
Ong said the idea to build the 888 China Town Square came to him when he observed that Bacolod shoppers don't have an alternative to malls where goods are usually sold at higher prices.
"More than 50 percent of the stalls will be 168-type. We'll have products from all walks of trade, including computer shops. Our prices will be low and competitive," he said.
Stalls or the popular tianggues in Metro Manila sell various commodities such as RTWs, shoes, bags and accessories.
Ong said their company is distributing fliers to prospective investors in Metro Manila to convince them to come to Bacolod and sell their goods at 888 China Town Square. source (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2006/November/30/businessnews1.htm)

The 2005 SEA Games Logo uses the festival mask similar to those found in most Southeast Asian countries. It represents the many different cultures that will come together for the Games. At the same time the mask captures the exuberant spirit and hospitality of the Filipinos. The logo was inspired by the Masskara Festival held annually in Bacolod City, one of the satellite venues of the event.

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL FESTIVALS Date Of Events
PANAAD SA NEGROS (Bacolod City; April 12 – 21).
The mother of festivals. It is one grand celebration bringing together all the ten cities and twenty two municipalities in a showcase of trade, tourism, commerce and industry, arts and culture, beauty and talent, as well as games and sports.
Masskara Festival (Bacolod City; every October).
A masquerade balll and beaming images of smiling masks; street dancing and stomping to the frenzied beat of Latin sambas; depicts the Negrenses’ happy disposition despite adversities in life.
Pasalamat Festival (La Carlota City; every May).
Based on the tradition of giving thanks to the Gods of the elements after a bountiful harvest by the ancients in "Buglas".
Kali-kalihan Festival (Don Salvador Benedicto; every November).
Celebration of age-old practice showcasing ancient skills in martial arts and beliefs in the forces of nature; walking on live charcoal is one of the highlights.
Pinta Flores Festival (San Carlos City; every November).
Coined from the words "pinta" and "flores", depicts the tradition of welcoming visitors through dancing as in the "pintados" during the coming of the Spaniards in the Visayas. Flowers instead of tattooes are painted on the bodies and constumes of the dancers.
Cadiz Ati-atihan (Cadiz City; every January).
Festival in honor of the Sto. Nino, patron of Cadiz City believed to have created miracles protecting the city from the invading pirates a long time ago.
Sinulog (Ilog and Kabankalan City; every January).
Re-enactment of the battle between the Christian forces and the invading Moro pirates in the Ilog river; commemorates the defiance of Datu Manyabog against the conquering forces of Gov. Emilio Saravia.
Ugyonan (Snake Festival) (every May 1).
Also known as “cooperation,” it is celebrated through sports competition, street dancing, cultural events, and float parade.
Sinigayan Festival (Sagay City, every 3rd week of March / March 19).
An annual thanksgiving in honor of St. Joseph, showcasing the best of Sagay’s arts, culture, products, and people.
Babaylan Festival (Bago City; Feb. 19).
A unique festival that explores the Babaylan folktales, rediscovers music, dances, rituals, and other artistic endeavors of the early Bagonhons. Held during the city’s charter anniversary celebration.
Al Cinco De Noviembre (Bago City, every Nov. 5).
A historical festival that commemorates the victory of the Negrenses’ bloodless revolt against the Spaniards in 1898.
Bailes De Luces (La Castellana; Dec. 30 – Jan. 5).
The town’s celebration of Charter Day and a befitting culmination of the Christmas season, the festival is conceptualized as a festival of hope and thanksgiving.
Dinagsa Ati Atihan Festival (Cadiz City; 4th Sunday of January).
A revelry from sunrise to sunset, with ceaseless and rhythmic beating of drums. A sea of humanity in cadence with black soot “ati” performing rituals, all in honor of El Señor Sto. Niño.
Kadalagan Festival (Victorias City; March 21).
The festival is in commemoration of the city’s Charter Anniversary which falls every 21st of March and goes with week-long festivities.
Banana Festival (La Castellana; April 1 – 5).
A harvest festival that opens on the first day of April, showcasing the different varieties of banana which is abundant in the municipality.
Hinugyaw sa Hinigaran Festival (Hinigaran; Apr. 25-30).
“Hinugyaw,” meaning rejoice/revelry in the local dialect, is celebrated every 25th to 30th of April every year.
Manlambus Festival (Escalante City; May 30).
“Manlambus” is a Visayan term meaning “to strike with a club” - because its coastal waters were then teeming with fishes that catching them could be done simply by clubbing.
Mudpack Festival (Murcia; June 24).
The festival is a symbolic celebration of man’s return to primitive time when he was closer to nature.
Minuluan Festival (Talisay City; Sept. 4-10).
A celebration honoring the Creator and the Minuluan tribe.
Kansilay Festival (Silay City; Nov. 5-13).
The 9-day celebration starts with the celebration of “ El Cinco de Noviembre “, a one-day bloodless revolution in Silay which caused the surrender of the Spanish civil guards.
Ilonggo Sarsuela Festival (Silay City; last week of Nov.).
The best ilonggo sarsuela scripts written by Silaynon playwrights are produced by independent theater groups, school-based drama clubs, and barangay cultural ensembles.
Festival of Lights and Music (La Carlota City; Dec. 16-31).
The Festival of Lights and Music is the very onset of festival season in La Carlota City.
Pasaway sa Sipalay (Sipalay City)
It is celebrated every last week of March marking the Charter Anniversary of the city. Street dancers of seventeen (17) barangays make the celebration alive and exciting as they wear their exotic costumes in the resemblance of copper mineral.
Handurawan Festival (Sipalay City)
It is an annual fiesta celebration of the city held every 3rd week of December coupled with the yuletide season. A week-long activities have been scheduled to provide Sipalaynon and guests a time to enjoy.

Gift of life becomes source of life
By Carla Gomez
Inquirer
Posted date: September 24, 2006
BACOLOD CITY—A housewife set up a fashion accessories business for self-esteem. But when her husband died, the source of confidence became the source of income for her family.
Cristeta Nemenzo Villacin, 44, is one of several entrepreneurs belonging to the Association of Negros Producers joining the group’s 21st Negros Trade Fair from Sept. 22 to Sept 26, at the Rockwell Tent in Makati City.
She started her business with P8,000 in 2003, when she and friend Lourdes Valderama showed a few samples of the bracelets and necklaces they had made from beads and shells to then ANP president Marivic Rio.
Rio liked their designs and urged them to sell the jewelry at the ANP showroom in Bacolod, Villacin recalls.
“My first check for a month’s sales was P586. I was so happy with the check. It felt good to know that people appreciated my jewelry enough to buy them,” she says.
Cris, who has a degree in humanities from the University of the Philippines, quit her job to become a housewife when she married Joemarie Villacin, a small sugarcane farmer.
She says she starting making fashion accessories when she reached a stage in life where she felt worthless. A few years before this she had suffered from ovarian cancer in 1993 and she underwent chemotherapy and radiation.
She survived her cancer but in November 2005 tragedy struck—her husband was diagnosed to have lung cancer, stage four.
The huge medical expenses incurred during her husband’s illness drained their resources. Despite the efforts to treat her husband, he passed away in May 11, 2006.
“My husband had constantly encouraged me to go on with my business. That helped me find myself, boost my confidence and feel complete. And by God’s grace my little business that grew saved my family when my husband died,” she says.
That is because the P8,000 she invested in her jewelry business allowed her to have something to fall back on. The monthly checks she has been getting from her sales at the showroom have increased and have been sufficient in keeping her family going and putting her children, Julius, 20 and Bea, 14 in school.
With the help of ANP, Cris says Crisvil Creations has grown because of the assistance the association provides its members such as product development, trends and tips on running one’s business.
ANP president Cristina Gaston says this year’s trade fair, chose the theme “Gifts of Life” because ANP has provided the opportunity for many small businesses to grow and create world-class products.
Out of the P120 million annual sales generated by ANP members, 70 percent comes from export, and 30 percent comes from domestic sales, she says.
Their annual trade fairs in Manila have drawn from 5,000 to 7,000 visitors composed of buyers, merchandisers, exporters, foreign and local tourists and the public.
Their trade fairs have also generated over P15 million in domestic sales yearly, both from on the spot sales and orders generated, Gaston says.
The ANP started when businessman Daniel Lacson Jr. pushed for the creation of small business enterprises to create more jobs and to help Negrenses cope with the sluggish sugar industry.
As Negros, then a monocrop economy, reeled from the drop in sugar prices in the 1980s, Lacson, along with other members of the Negros Business Forum, pushed for diversification.
In answer to Lacson’s call, about 15 housewives and a group of Manila-based Negrenses started the House of Negros, which organized trade fairs for Negros products.
When Lacson became governor of Negros Occidental in 1986, he encouraged the Negrense producers to organize and the Association of Negros Producers was born.
From a small group of 15 producers ANP has grown to 96 producers who have generated 15,000 jobs, Gaston says.
Twenty percent of ANP’s members now export their products to the United States, Italy, France, Poland, Indonesia, Japan, Africa, the Middle East, Scandinavian countries and Singapore, Gaston adds.
Over the years, and since ANP was started by 15 housewives, the ANP membership profile has been largely dominated by women—professionals, businesswomen, housewives and young graduates.
Currently over 80 percent of ANP membership is composed of women—either alone or with their husbands, Gaston explains.
“The ANP producers have indeed come a long way from the grim days in the 80s when they first began. It enabled people with talent and initiative, even with barely any capital, to make a go of their businesses,” Lacson says. “All we gave them was access to an organization that helped them develop and market their products, which has become a model that has been replicated in other parts of the country.”
Lacson says the goal in the 1980s was to create more jobs outside of the sugar industry and today ANP’s success is a dream fulfilled.

The Artistic Heritage of Negros
The Negros Summer Workshops..
In 1990, a host of Negrense artists from all over the country were awarded the Negros Centennial Awards for the Arts. A group of artists decided they wanted to give back their time and resources to the province that has nurtured and fostered their artistry. Immediately, the University of St. La Salle, through Bro. Augustine Boquer, FSC and Dr. Elsie Coscolluela, offered the facilities of the school for this planned undertaking.
The group headed by Mr. Peque Gallaga and La Salle’s Dr. Coscolluela conducted their first summer workshops in 1991. For the past 15 years, Mr. Gallaga has been bringing together a team of professionals and for theatre, film, television and advertising to teach students, artists and professionals. For one whole month, these resource persons decline projects in Manila and forgo substantial income to be able to dedicate their time to sharing their talents and expertise. They believe that by sharing their art, craft, and technical knowledge, we ensure that our artistic and cultural traditions remain vibrant and alive and that the seeds of inspiration, discipline and craft are handed over to the future artists of our country
The workshops have done much to decentralize film training in the province. It has also managed to develop and produce original theatre and film materials which have been presented to the community and have received citations from nationally prestigious award-giving bodies such as the Palanca and Bahaghari Awards.
For its first twelve years, the workshops managed with no government subsidy, except for two years in the early 90s when a grant from the Pagcor was made available. On its 13th year, the Negros Summer Workshops was awarded a grant by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Committees on Film and Dramatic Arts. The grant enabled the workshop to finally realize its vision of reaching out to other areas outside Negros by providing a big number of scholarships to interested and deserving applicants coming from all over the Western Visayas Region.
With the full support of the NCCA and other affiliate organizations, the Negros Summer Workshops hope to persist in its mission to disperse opportunities for people to come together in the spirit of sharing creativity and self-expression.

Eduardo Sicangco
New York Based , Broadway Stage Designer
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/kyle_Lark/stage-227.jpg
Disney on Ice show as impressive behind the scenes as it is on stage
The challenge for designer Eduardo Sicangco was creating a backdrop that could change for all of the princess scenes, each with its own time period and style. "Cinderella" is an 18th Century design. "Aladdin" requires an Arabian palace and "Little Mermaid" an underwater kingdom.
Sicangco calls his creation a "hybrid-fusion castle."
"It gives nod to all of these time periods and countries and has the ability to turn and reconfigure itself to support each particular princess story," he said in a prepared statement.
During the show, the castle will move — pieces within it rotate and the entire castle can revolve.
"It's a big jigsaw puzzle," Sicangco said. "Every time you move something, it affects the rest of the castle."
One trick in the show has the castle "disappearing" and sending the audience under the sea with black light effects. When the castle "reappears" it is as part of Ariel's undersea kingdom.
Sicangco, who teaches design at New York University and has worked at Radio City Music Hall and The Kennedy Center, says even he is awed by the castle.
"This is the biggest set I have done in my life," he said.

Leandro Locsin
National Artist, considered to be the country's finest
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/kyle_Lark/locsin.jpg
Leandro V. Locsin was born on Aug 15, 1928 in Silay, Negros Occidental, a grandson of the first governor of Negros Occidental. He later studied with the De La Salle Brothers in 1935 before returning to Negros due to the Second World War. He returned to Manila to study Pre-Law, before shifting to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Music at the University of Santo Tomas. Although he was a talented pianist, he later shifted again to Architecture, just a year before graduating.
An art lover, he frequented the Philippine Art Gallery, where he met the curator, Fernando Zobel de Ayala, who recommended Locsin to the Ossorio family, who was planning to build a chapel in Negros. Unfortunately, when Frederic Ossorio left for the United States, the plans for the chapel were cancelled. However, in 1955, then University of the Philippines, Diliman Catholic Chaplain, Fr. John Delaney, S.J. commissioned Locsin to design a chapel that is open and can easily accommodate 1,000 people. The Church of Holy Sacrifice is the first round chapel in the Philippines with the altar in the middle, and the first to have a thin shell concrete dome. The floor of the church was designed by Arturo Luz, the stations of the cross by Vicente Manansala and Ang Kiukok, and the cross by Napoleon Abueva, all of whom are now National Artists. The church is now recognized as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Institute.
In his visit to the United States, he met some of his influences, Paul Rudolph and Eero Saarinen. It was then he realized to use concrete, which was relatively cheap in the Philippines and easy to form, for his buildings. In 1969, he completed what is to be his most recognizable work, the Theater of Performing Arts (Now the Tanghalang Pambansa) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The marble façade of the building is cantilevered 12 meters from the terrace by huge arching columns at the sides of the building, giving it the impression of floating. A large lagoon in front of the theatre mirrors the building during daylight, while fountains are illuminated by underwater lights by nighttime. The building houses four theaters, a museum of ethnographic and other temporary exhibits, galleries, and a library on Philippine art and culture. In 1974, Locsin designed the Folk Arts Theater which is one of the largest single span buildings in the Philippines. It was completed in only seventy-seven days, in time for the Miss Universe Pagaent. Locsin was also commissioned to build the Philippine International Convention Center, the country's premiere international conference building and the seat of the Vice Presidency.
In 1974, he was commissioned to design the Ayala Museum, which housed the Ayala's art collection. It was known for the juxtaposition of huge blocks to facilitate the interior of the exhibition. Locsin was a close friend of the Ayalas. He was asked to design the first building in Ayala Avenue, and even several of their residences. When the collection of the Ayala Museum was moved to its current location, the original was demolished, with Locsin's permission. The current building was dedicated in 2004, and was designed by the L. V. Locsin and Partners, led by Leandro Y. Locsin, Jr. Most of Locsin's work has been inside the country, but in 1970, he designed the Philippine Pavilion of the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. His largest single work is the Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei. Locsin also designed some of the buildings at the UP Los Baños campus. The Dioscoro Umali Hall, the main auditorium, is clearly an example of his distinct architecture, with its large canopy that make it resemble the main theatre of the CCP. Most of his work is concentrated on the the Freedom Park, with the Student Union Building, once damaged by a fire, the Carillion, the Continuing Education Center and the auditorium. He also designed UPLB's Main Library and the SEARCA Residences.
Locsin's last work, ironically, was also a church in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Leandro V. Locsin died on Nov 15, 1994 in Makati City. The campus of De La Salle-Canlubang, built in 2003 on a land donated by his family, was named after him.

Kuh Ledesma
Real Name: MA. SOCORRO LEDESMA
Birthday: March 16
Birthplace: Bacolod City, Philippines
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/kyle_Lark/withguitar.jpg
Kuh Ledesma's music career spans 25 years of performances which include more than 300 concerts, numerous awards in the Philippine music scene, and 18 albums in the local recording industry. She was the first Filipino singer to be the recipient of the Salem Music Awards in March 1989. In 1997 she released an international debut album entitled PRECIOUS, a collaboration of the best American and Filipino songwriters, arrangers and musicians.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/kyle_Lark/kuh_01.jpg
Kuh is known for her lavish concept shows, putting up solo concerts in venues like the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Araneta Coliseum, PICC and Folk Arts Theater in the 80's during a time when singers shunned large venues because they were difficult to fill.
She launched an all-Filipino concert AKO AY PILIPINO (1982) at the CCP which featured a repertoire of ethnic sounds, classic kundimans and beautiful pop songs in a refreshing production that displayed Kuh's passion for tapping into the rich node of indegenous art as well as contemporary pop music to produce alternative approaches to songs. The show eventually spinned off into a TV special and a double album.
This was immediately followed by another production at the CCP, INSPIRED MADNESS (1983), created in collaboration with film director Peque Gallaga and musical director Ryan Cayabyab featuring noveau musical arrangements and unconventional production design. In light of the state of the times back then it was also here where we see a glimpse of Kuh's political color as she quietly paid tribute to Ninoy Aquino at the end of the show by singing a beautiful a cappella of "Impossible Dream" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (translation: "Hindi Ka Nag-iisa"). And she did this in CCP yet! 1984 through 1986 Kuh joined the APO Hiking Society in ANG PINOY NGA NAMAN! 1, 2, and 3 at the Folk Arts Theater.
In the 90's Kuh had a series of back-to-back concerts with foreign artists like Noel Pointer, Jack Jones, and Kenny Rankin (and later with The Platters and Michel Legrand). This later led to the popular POWER OF TWO concert series that had Kuh performing with local artists like Regine Velasquez, Pops Fernandez, and Jaya in a bid to show that artists can work together and go against formula in creating a good show.
Kuh has also appeared in films (ORO PLATA MATA, TINIMBANG ANG LANGIT, THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY) and theater (RAMA HARI and KAPINANGAN), and made numerous TV specials including the award-winning program KUH BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT.
Not content with being just a performer, Kuh has also formed her own production company (HEADLINE CONCEPTS), built alternative concert venues like the MUSIC MUSEUM and the REPUBLIC OF MALATE, owns a recording studio (BRAVO RECORDS) -- thus, giving her much artistic freedom and enabling her to produce and market her own work. She is known for looking out for new talents and helping jumpstart their careers through appearances in her concerts.
Kuh has also brough most of her shows abroad like her POWER OF TWO series and her DIVA2DIVA concert with Zsa Zsa Padilla which toured again in the US last November and December. Currently, Kuh marks her importance in the local music scene via rare, talked-about shows and a co-hosting spot in the Sunday variety show, "A.S.A.P. Mania."
This year Kuh celebrates her 25th year in the music industry through a series of shows at the Captain's Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Manila dubbed as "Kuh Ledesma Presents." Every month Kuh puts up a different show featuring artists of her choice. The series kicked off in February in time for the Valentine season, and with young pop idol Christian Bautista as special guest. Kuh is also set to release a number of albums this year as well as a photo book chronicling her career.

Lea Salonga
Pride of the Phillipine islands is half-negrense...
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/kyle_Lark/200px-LeaSalonga.jpg
Raised in Manila, Lea Salonga was like any other ordinary three-year-old child - except for the fact that she had perfect pitch. Born on February 22, 1971, the daughter of Feliciano Salonga, an engineer from Pampanga, and Ligaya Imutan, from Balocod City, Negros Occidental, auditioned with a Philippine repertory company for The King and I at the age of six. She was selected for the part of a princess and was the only child on stage with a speaking line. By the age of eight, she starred in the musical Annie, and the experience helped mold her into a sophisticated, though youthful, actress. Lea Salonga's talents became highly sought after henceforth, and she appeared in Philippine productions of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Fiddler on the Roof, The Rose Tattoo, The Sound of Music, The Goodbye Girl, Paper Moon, and the Fantasticks.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/kyle_Lark/Flower1.jpg
Salonga entered show business as a child star. At the age of seven, she made her professional debut in the Philippines by performing in the musical The King and I by Repertory Philippines. She became the lead star of 'Annie' and joined other productions, such as: Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Fiddler on the Roof, The Rose Tattoo, The Sound Of Music, The Goodbye Girl, Paper Moon and The Fantasticks.
She began her recording career at the age of ten with her first album, Small Voice, which received a Gold certification. Her younger brother Gerard Salonga performed a duet with her with the song, Happiness. Since then he has collaborated her many other times as creative/production assistant. As a child star, she has also hosted her own musical television show, Love, Lea, and opened for Stevie Wonder during his 1998 concert in Manila. She won three Aliw Awards for Best Child Performer from 1981 to 1983. In 1983, her sophomore album, "Lea" was released. She was also part of German Moreno's teen variety show That's Entertainment. The young Lea also appeared with Herbert Bautista in several popular family-oriented Filipino films in the late 1980s such as Ninja Kids, Captain Barbell and Pik Pak Boom.
Salonga's biggest breakthrough came when she was selected to play the leading role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon in 1989. The producers of the show scoured many Asian countries looking for a relatively unknown actress for the lead role of this major production. For her audition, Salonga chose to sing Boublil and Schönberg's " On My Own" from "Les Miserables," and was later made to sing "Sun and Moon" to test her voice quality's compatibility with the songs in the musical. The members of the panel were "bowled over" by Salonga's rendition of the songs. After Salonga and another actress (Monique Wilson) were tested with songs from the musical, Salonga was offered the role.
For her performance, Salonga was given the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical for the 1989/1990 season. From its original London home, Miss Saigon moved to Broadway in 1991. Salonga subsequently garnered the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for the same role.
In 1993, Salonga played the role of street waif Eponine in the Broadway production of Les Misérables, then flew to Los Angeles to perform the song "A Whole New World" (of Disney's Aladdin) at the 65th Annual Academy Awards, where the song won an Oscar. (Salonga sang the song in the movie as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine.) In the same year she released her self-titled international debut album with Atlantic Records, which sold slowly in the USA but went platinum in the Philippines and sold 3 million copies worldwide.[1]
In 1995 Salonga performed as Geri Riordan, an 18-year old adopted Vietnamese-American child in the movie Redwood Curtain, which starred John Lithgow and Jeff Daniels.
Salonga was invited by Sir Cameron Mackintosh to play the role of Eponine for the 10th Anniversary concert of "Les Miserables" at London's Royal Albert Hall. Salonga performed as part of a "dream cast" composed of Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, Judy Kuhn, and Philip Quast.
Salonga then acted in various musical theater productions around the Philippines and Singapore. She notably starred as Sandy in Grease, Sonia Walsk in They're Playing Our Song, The Witch in Into The Woods, and Lizzie in Baby. In 1997, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" (recordings from her childhood days) was released to gold sales in the Philippines. It was followed up by "Lea... In Love" in 1998. "By Heart" followed two years later, both albums reaching multiple platinum status in the Philippines. [2]
In 2001, Salonga had a grand homecoming via the Manila production of Miss Saigon staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
In 2001 and again in 2003, Salonga played the role of Lien Hughes on the soap opera As the World Turns, which was originally played by Ming-Na Wen many years before. She also made a guest appearance in the medical drama E.R., playing the role of a patient with Lymphoma.
In 2002 Salonga returned to broadway to play the role of a Chinese immigrant in a reinterpretation of Rogers and Hammerstein's "Flower Drum Song" opposite Jose Llana. The show was given a brand new libretto which presented Asian Americans with more dignity than the original but it also played with the stereotypes. It was considered one of the 10 best plays on Broadway in 2002 by Time Magazine [3]. The musical, which had a short run on Broadway, later on garnered nominations for best book, best costume designer and best choreographer. However, Ms. Salonga's performance, which received mixed-positive reviews, was not nominated at the Tony's.
In February and March 2005, Salonga played her first US concert tour in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, and Chicago. Dates in Washington, D.C., and Norfolk, Virginia followed in July 2005. Some of the venues sold out one week and a half after the concerts were announced.
On November 7, 2005, Salonga performed with a 26-piece ensemble to a sold out crowd of 2,804 at the "Isaac Stern Hall," the Main Hall in New York's prestigious Carnegie Hall for the benefit of Diverse City Theater Company. Salonga is only the third Filipino solo artist to perform at the venue (the first was Regine Velasquez followed by Jose Mari Chan).
Salonga's Disney film credits include the singing voice of Princess Jasmine for Aladdin (1992), and Fa Mulan for Mulan (1998), as well as the voice of Mrs. Kusakabe (Satsuki and Mei's mother) in Disney's 2005 English dub of Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro.
Salonga performed three times for U.S. Presidents (she was invited twice to the White House and the other one was on President Bush's state visit to the Philippines) and once for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. In the field of theater, no other Filipino has achieved greater international recognition than Salonga. She is the only one to ever win a Tony.

World's largest floating book fair arrives to BACOLOD
The international goodwill vessel, M/V Doulos, docked Tuesday at the BREDCO port in Bacolod City where it will stay until January 2.
Coming to the Philippines for the first time in five years, and to Bacolod for the first time, the M/V Doulos is bringing what is said to be the world's largest floating book fair to the city.
M/V Doulos, said to be the world's oldest ocean going passenger ship having been built in 1914, "sails from port to port to promote international understanding and worldwide education and bring a message of hope to a hurting world," according to its brochure.
The vessel was purchased in 1977 by Gute Bücher für Alle e.V. (Good Books for All), a private, non-profit, charitable organization registered in Germany, and has sailed to more than 500 ports in 100 countries.
Reka Borsiczky, its media relations officer, said that from Bacolod, they will sail to Manila, Cebu and Batangas and will stay in the Philippines for almost three months before proceeding to Taiwan, Japan and Korea.

28 'Dinosaurs' coming to Bacolod soon
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/dragonpark.jpg
JUST as when the rainy season comes to Negros next year, so would the giant life-like dinosaurs.
Negrenses and Bacoleños who wanted to encounter life-like dinosaurs will soon have the chance as the biggest dinosaur theme park is set to open in the second half of 2007.
Bacolod City tops the list of places to be visited by the theme park after it opens in Manila this week.
By July next year, these dinosaurs will be brought to different provinces in the country with Negros Occidental in the priority list, specifically in Bacolod City and will be placed either at Robinsons Place Mall or SM City-Bacolod.
In Manila, these creatures will be housed in an air-dome tent with a natural rain forest setting. This will be set up at the intersection of Roxas Boulevard-Buendia (the previous site occupied by Boom Na Boom).
But these are not real dinosaurs only mechanical. However, they are designed to produce sounds like those of the real ones.
To be opened on Friday, the P350-million Dino World theme park by Funfare Ventures and Elecomax will be the very first in Southeast Asia and the second largest in the world next to Florida, USA.
It will showcase 28 robotic dinosaurs and about 250 kinds of dinosaur fossils.
These include the uojiangosaurus, tegosaurus, ambeaosaurus, elociraptor, amenchisaurus, sintaosaurus, einonichus, triceratops, rannosaurus, chycephalosaurus, marasaurus, coelosaurus, rasaurolophus, elociraptor, mamenchisaurus, tsintaosaurus, einonichus, tyrannosaurus, pachycephalosaurus, camarasaurus, pteranodon, coelosaurus, parasaurolophus, velociraptor, yangchanosaurus, muraenosaurus, monolophosaurus, tsintaosaurus.
A press statement from Funfare and Elecomax said that Dino World will be open to everyone, especially students from kindergarten to college, who are interested in knowing more about Dinosaurs.
For an entrance fee of only P250, visiting students can also avail free work book about dinosaurs depending on their grade/year level. source (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2006/12/19/news/28.dinosaurs.coming.to.bacolod.soon.html)

help me guys, promote the bacolod site, that is under world66.com, do help me develop the site and spread the words all over the world about Bacolod and Negros Island, this will not only boost the tourism, but as well as helping creating jobs. there is a lot to promote, like the beaches of kawayan, sipalay city, and hinobaan. I would appreciate the effort.

well about Sm City Bacolod, Its good that its only two floors, SM will invest anyways on building a convention center, and another mall will be constructed just beside Landbank Near Capitol, 888 MALL. There is a lot of developments around Bacolod. The province is in upbeat mode.

i dont think its a good idea to increase SM bacolod to a 3-storey building. since it is standing on a reclaimed land. its always better to expand horizontally, rather than vertically.
WawaY[625]
December 28th, 2006, 06:55 AM
yeah, i like sprawling malls over vertical ones (if both have same Gross floor area, the sprawling one feels larger, here in Davao, people assume SM (2 levels 75,00sqm GFA) is bigger than Gaisano Mall (5 levels, 130,000sqm GFA) since mas malapad ang SM :)

guys, sunstar-bacolod news, there will be a P1.2B medical center to be put up on reclamation site, announced by Palanca, and an update, even its a reclaimed land, large structures can be built on it, however it should be on the construction firm ability to create a good structure, if dubai can create skyscrapers out of sand based reclaimed land, then it will not be too far on us in here in the philippines, we have a lot of resources, especially here in negros.

JuIcYdUdE22
December 29th, 2006, 11:55 PM
for insurgents, well the best thing to do is to do the counter attack, lets help each other looking for options to create jobs, that will help, that will show, that we have concerns, we must not rely on the government, acctually the government is relying on us, people. we do the mandate, we dictate if we tolerate insurgents or not. on my part, when i was in the university before, i'm with the environmental awareness and advocacy group. we go to siipalay and kawayan, tell people about alternative, and sustainable developments, like preserving the reefs, in turn it will produce bountiful fish, apo island national park is an attest to that same with danjugan island. another thing about preservation is tourism. theres a lot of options, especially here in negros, we have four kinds of beaches, gray sand( central negros), white sand(northern and southern negros), pebbled and rocky (the whole coast line have stretches of cliffs). cliffs like the ones in Cauayan, near bulata, breath taking sceneries. we have forests, not like in cebu( zero forest island ). The best thing about Negros is this, cost of living is affordable, you can access white sand bars and beaches for as low as P10 per head, sipalay, central negros, or simply on public beaches. and civilization is just enough to say i can stay out of my office and still do my work. most people havent notice the things around bacolod and the whole metro, classic charm, well to do lifestyle (attest to the hardships- ikadlaw ang libug). and the nice perk is, you get more than what you ask, if you know where to look and go.

way back when i stay sa espana tower before, around U-belt, we used to go out with my friends who were ilonggo's too. mag lagaw kami, miski mangape lang, ilonggo, damo da sa may ubelt ilonggo, from students to food stall owners, thats why, daw feel at home kami kay, mapaluto "laswa". shit, sa kaano bala, kag iban pa nga mga ilonggo foods. parehos man sa makati, my girlfriend is also an ilongga, well swerte ko kay miski well off sya, pwerte ka simple, maglagaw kami sa GB4, malusot kami na sa asian institute of management, kdto sa mga turo2x stalls lapit sa prudential, sa maay salcedo village na da? lipat na ko, naan puro ilonggo na da, may ara da nga taga brgy. bata bacolod city. gaapaaluto kami authentic ilonggo foods eh. like takway, paklay, las-wa, ginat-an, etc. SAMPAT GID YA. mangape man sa posh cafe, or sa shang man b, gailonggo kami, that way, we impose an impression, well mas damo bala alog nga hangin, anyways, impresssion nga we love our language, and being with the intonation that is romantic, :) it aall adds up sa complexity of our culture, d lang silaa sumala. wahehehe. "OUR LEGACY gali"
There are a lot of Ilonggos and Negrenses in Manila. Even in UP Diliman, my blockmates were from Iloilo and Bacolod. I love how they speak. Very malambing. And the Ilonggo food and delicacies are really delicious. I love La Paz Batchoy.

Bacolod eyed as host of Asian volley event
An official of the Philippine Volleyball Federation yesterday said that Bacolod City is being eyed to host the Asian Youth Boys' Volleyball Championship in May.
Roger Banzuela, chairman of the PVF Coaching Commission, told the DAILY STAR that Bacolod may be given the task of hosting the Asian tournament because it would be too expensive to staged it in Manila. The only problem being foreseen if Bacolod holds the event is that it does not have an international airport that could lessen the hassles of airport transfers, the former PVF president said. cont'd (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/January/03/sportnews1.htm)
