@Zyanz. Welcome Back migs!

Yup. Try ko lang basi maka-transfer ko or what.
@Eric. Quit Sykes and go to Convergys na! wahahahaha!

IMO, daw indi pa man kinahanglanon ang flyovers sa Bacolod. Indi sa guinahambal ko nga guinadeprive kamo sang opportunities. In fact, I admire Bacolod's traffic system. Its a highly-urbanized city but traffic jams are almost impossible (pwera Masskara). Good city planning has contributed to its almost flawless traffic situation.

Anyway, gotta share you something. I went on a one way street (Araneta Street from Plaza to Rizal Elementary) sang 3rd year college ko. Tingala ko ngaa man.

Kabankalan, the cleanest city in Region VI

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/cityhalls_kabankalan.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/zyanz/bacolod/fountainkabankalannight.jpg

The city of Kabankalan is named first place as the cleanest city under the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran program in the whole Region VI. First and second runners up were Escalante and Cadiz Cities respectively.

Kabankalan also clinches two minor awards as second placer in cleanest public market and public toilet in the region.

The award was given during the Pagdayaw 2006, awards ceremony on innovations and excellence in local governance held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel on December 20, 2006.

Mayor Pedro P. Zayco, Jr. said the city achieved these awards as a result of its strict compliance to environmental laws and proper implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of the Philippines effected last January 2002.

Mayor Zayco also cited the Task Force Kalinisan, an organization that performs as watchdogs for the violators of the City Ordinance No. 2005-001 or the City Ecological Solid Waste Management of Kabankalan.

“Pagdayaw” is the highlight of DILG’s efforts to bring out the capabilities of local government in the region, said DILG Regional Director Evelyn A. Trompeta. This is a strategy to enhance people’s appreciation and availment of DILG programs and projects geared towards better local governance. *emy

kyle, i guess they patterned the design after the Mall of asia, where its planner is the Achiteqtronica not sure of the spelling though, got its inspiration from the waves of the bay.

remember that both sm bacolod and mall of asia sits on a reclaimed land, stone's throw away from the bay..

SM City Bacolod looks bigger if seen from the outside. Pero actually mga 60,000 sqm lang ang floor area ng mall. Pero 2 levels lang siya. The mall will have 4 movie houses.

Pero yung bridgeway niya connecting the two buildings are impressive huh. I say "are" kasi dalawa ang bridgeway, isa sa harap at isa sa likod. And below is sakayan ng public transpo at daanan ng sasakyan, similar to the concept of the bridgeway sa Megamall. But unlike Megamall, it appears that the bridgeway of SM Bacolod is strictly a pedestrian bridgeway at mukhang walang shops.

She said the mall will have more than 1,000 slots for parking space and more than 120 store locators.

Amigo said she is not sure whether business tycoon Henry Sy and known public figures and showbiz personalities will be coming for the inauguration.

Meanwhile, Ardis Jaculina, head of the City's Licensing and Permits Division, said that SM City will be having 250 tenants.

Call center eyes expansion

+Teleperformance, a firm that provides worldwide services on a daily basis, inaugurated its Bacolod City call center yesterday and is looking to expand its workforce further.

The call center located at the Luxur Place (formerly the Bacolod Convention Plaza Hotel) currently has 300 employees but it hopes to have 750 by the end of 2007, Dave Rizzo, Teleperformance managing director, said.

"And in 2008 we would love nothing more than to be able to hire 500 more employees," he said.

"Bacolod is the area in the Visayas where we want to grow," Rizzo added. "Cebu is not necessarily attractive for us because there are a lot of competitors there," he also said.

"The call center industry is obviously going to be driven here in Bacolod by interest associated with a lot of the fortune 500 firms in the United States," he said.

The more client firms the Bacolod center serves the more jobs they can create, he said.

The Bacolod Teleperformace call center currently is providing services to three firms, which Rizzo said he could not name.

He said one of their clients has some of the most popular and largest entertainment parks around the world, one is a very popular cellphone manufacturer and one is one of the world's largest computer manufacturers.

They have had no difficulty finding employees in Bacolod City, in fact they have a healthy pipeline of new applicants who have been pre-selected in the event that the call center gets additional business in the near future, Rizzo said.

Claire Gutana-Bedia, Teleperformance Bacolod site director, said the call center began operations in the city and in three months hired 300 employees.

Miguel Cojuangco, Teleperformance president, thanked Bacolod City for its hospitality and support for their call center.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, in response, assured that the city government will continue to provide a business climate for Teleperformace and other call centers to allow them to continue to grow.

"The growth of the call centers will also mean further growth of Bacolod City," he said.*CPG source (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/January/17/topstory6.htm)

where's the non-disclosure agreement, then? mmmmm if u noticed sang masskara may float man sila may ngalan sang DELL .

thats why my officemates nga gin pang dala ko sa bacolod at that time were surprised to see ngaa naga disclose sila sang names sang clients, when in fact, it is an industry-wide practice not to name clients

proposed flyovers will be constructed at corner Lacson - Burgos street and in Lacson - B.S. Aquino Drive, BACOLOD. January start of construction.

i heard on the radio long time ago maybe a few months back that they are proposing to built overpasses in heavily pedestrian traffic areas like downtown and SM and not flyovers. :)

Not only Teletech and teleperformance. Aside from these 2 and another two call centers (that makes it 4), Convergys is also opening a Bacolod site. This is good news for us. Sana, aside from call centers, we get more, the higher type of outsourcing jobs like accounting and finance, human resources and IT. I am still hoping Negros gets manufacturing investments so that the masses can have better paying jobs. Kay ang kadamuan sang masa indi man kabalo mag English, so indi sila maka benefit sa mga call centers. Having export oriented manufacturers operating in Negros will greatly benefit us. Wealth is distributed more equitably and im telling you, when that happens, SM City, Rob, Gaisano and 888 China City Square mall will not be able to meet demand kasi everybody will have purchasing power. I am not exagerrating.

IT TOOK years for the Victorias City Government to develop the Gawahon Mountain Resort in Barangay Gawahon into a "tourism haven" in Negros Occidental.

And just after it built several cottages and a mini-hotel, provided good roads and easy access for everyone and launched an intensive promotional campaign to boast of Gawahon's untouched cigarette falls and lagoon, problem came in. cont'd (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2007/01/22/news/.real.owners.of.gawahon.mountain.resort.surface.html)

kyle, i guess they patterned the design after the Mall of asia, where its planner is the Achiteqtronica not sure of the spelling though, got its inspiration from the waves of the bay.

remember that both sm bacolod and mall of asia sits on a reclaimed land, stone's throw away from the bay..

I think its Arquitectonica.

AIKO, SANTIAGO, SEVERINO, TRONCO

Flair for the Arts
Negrenses are noted for their artistic abilities as well as for its world-class athletes. Even in the field of cockfighting, it is known as the home of the best handlers and game fowl breeders. Many Negrense artists, among them performing artists, designers and visual artists have also gained national and international distinction in their fields. Occasionally, Silay City celebrates a zarzuela festival in Hiligaynon, the local dialect. These indigenized operettas showcase the Negrenses’ flair for the performing arts. Galleries like the Art Association of Bacolod holds regular exhibits of paintings and sculptures by local artists.

Groundbreaking of new COA building held

Gov. Joseph Marañon yesterday led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Commission on Audit Provincial Satellite Auditing Office at the corner of V. Gatuslao Street and South Capitol Road, Bacolod City with COA commissioners Reynaldo Villar and Juanito Espino Jr.

A Deed of Usufruct states that the provincial government will allow the COA to use its 1,000 square meters property for its building for 50 years. Villar said the initial release for the two-storey COA building will be P9 million but its total cost will be about P15 million. cont'd (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/January/27/topstory8.htm)

Basi indi na ina madayon its bcoz nga reclaim.
Look what the SM only a 2 storey. Same as the Gaisano Supermall bcoz of the Airport supposed to be that’s a high storey but not. Mabuti nlng yong nasa Robs Place, I don’t know if they will continue to expand of that mall.

I’ve been seen too b4 when I’m there 2nd week of Jan but as I see it has a 5 storey. That is an expansion of Pavillion Hotel to add new facilities a convention and a night life entertainment.

Are you planning to buy one? There are some nice new condominiums in front of Robinson's Place Bacolod.
Baka yon ang mauuna na maging wall street sa Bacolod papuntang ayala. Then yong nasa Araneta street naman if the airport will close and to replace it into manufacturing and office condominiums. That’s in my mind.

Visayan Daily Star

From the Center
with Rolly Espina

A startling stand

Mrs. Susana Cruz, spouse of business tycoon, Donato C. Cruz, had always been focused on business. But Saturday she announced that he is solidly backing the constitutional change advocating for federalization.

That was a day of revelation for me. Mrs. Cruz explained why she opted to accept the provincial chairmanship of the Alliance in Defense of Languages, Traditions and Federalization. This is a non-government organization devoted to preserving our languages and working toward federalization.

"We cannot let things continue the way they are. We must take the risk and advocate charter changes if we wish to remedy the situation and promote an accelerated growth of the country - politically, socially and economically." That's how Mrs. Cruz summed up her philosophical outlook.

We must advance the cause of federalization. That's the only way our country would be able to move forward, the countryside liberated from the group of Imperial Manila, declared Cruz.

That was revealing. The Negrense matron admitted that she had never been involved in politics. This time, however, she said she has to adopt an advocacy for two major causes which she believed in - preservation of our languages and federalism.

We can never throw off our reputation for mendicancy so long as we continue to be controlled by Manila, she pointed out.

Mrs. Cruz deplored that Filipinos, including local government units and non-government organizations compete with one another to be able to look for foreign funding for development projects.

And, yet, if we must be honest about it, we must develop self-reliance. Our country is rich. Our countrysides have more than enough resources to be able to pursue regional development, was how Mrs. Cruz put it across to her listeners which included several young municipal and city coordinators of ALFED.

A Chinese mestiza, she cited China as a country which, even during times of crisis, spurned foreign assistance. Not because they don't want to, it is simply because they know that their local resources are more than enough for them to be able to cope with a given situation.

A successful businesswoman, Mrs. Cruz said one must view the problems of the country from the vantage point of Returns on Investment.

Negros Occidental, she pointed out, pays billions in taxes to the national government. But our infrastructure development remains inadequate because we get only a pittance of what we need from the national government.

What happens is that our province must wait and beg from Imperial Manila for our share of the resources we remit to the national government. And it only represents a small portion of what we send to the national government, Mrs. Cruz stressed.

Sugarman Rodolfo Tordesillas (Junie), the ALFED regional head interjected and confirmed the observations by Ms. Cruz.

"I was a small kid yet when my grandfather used to bring my brother and me to Manapla. He used to point out to me the good North Road. And he stressed that if only Manila were to return to Negros a big portion of what Negrenses pay in taxes of the national government, we could have ringed Negros Island with quality roads. And go through with the proposed Negros Island railway system.

Early enough, I internalized that point. That is the reason why I remain convinced of the idea that our country's salvation is to federalize," chimed in Tordesillas.

If that idea or an island railway system had been adopted early on, it could have proven a boon to our agri-business development, "Tordesillas stressed.

Mrs. Cruz also interjected. She pointed out that the roadways leading to Bacolod could have been upgraded and expanded early enough for both safety and ease in transportation if the national government had given back enough of our taxes to the national treasury.

Another sore spot. The continued insistence by the Department of Education on Tagalog as the national language.

I noticed the deterioration or our educational system when the government started insisting on the use or Tagalog as the national language. That never was the intent or the Constitution. Tagalog cannot be the national language, both argued.

They deplored the fact that some of our local disc jockeys spout Tagalog in their commentaries. But they should have realized that their listeners are Ilonggos. And most do not understand that language.

Both Mrs. Cruz and Tordesillas advocated the use of English as a Neutral language. Eric Gotera, a telephone center lecturer, chimed in that one reason why IT firms had picked on Bacolod as site for their outsourcing business investment is precisely rooted in the fact that they found Negros as the best source or proficient English speakers.*

***************

AHEHEHE, even my name is on that page, I actually mean no only Negros, That would cover the whole, Western Visayan Region. I am A member of that Alliance, and Ilonggos are famous for that specific detail of lifestyle, Being Flexible on all astrocities, while keeping everything in class, elegance, and honor. KAY MAN INIDI TA YA PIGAW. AHEHEHEHE...

The 25 megawatt wind farm, owned and operated by Danish firm Northwind, is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. According to Greenpeace and the Global Wind Energy Council, the Philippines is poised to become the leading wind power producer in Southeast Asia with potential of up 70,000 MW of clean renewable energy from wind. The value of the global market for wind turbines is predicted to expand from the current 8 billion euros to an 80 billion euro market by 2020.

Bacolod, PHILIPPINES — The tiny island of Negros in the Philippines has become an Asian model of community-based clean energy generation, according to Greenpeace.
Members of the environmental group Greenpeace today kicked off a tour of future sites for clean renewable energy such as potential wind farms, bio-mass, solar PV and micro-hydro as well as some of the country's most pristine beaches and forests found on the island.

"Negros is such an exceptional community due to the people's will to invest its future in clean renewable energy. We are here to highlight the fact that a model for clean community-based power generation that is applicable worldwide exists," said Chris Harris, Campaign Director of Greenpeace Southeast Asia.

In a few years, the coastal towns of Pulupandan and Sojoton, Cauayan both blessed with constant strong winds, will form one of the Philippines' largest wind farm sites.

Pulupandan shot to prominence when a coal-fired power plant project ignited a 6-year struggle by the community which rejected the proposal, and demanded for clean renewable energy. With support from international organizations including Greenpeace, the coal plant project was scrapped and its site is now being eyed as a possible site for a wind farm project

In May 2004, Greenpeace installed a wind measurement device, called an anemometer, that has been monitoring the average wind speed in Pulupandan. So far, initial studies indicate a relatively high potential, better than the average wind speed in Germany.

"We remain committed to the Pulupandan cause of rejecting dirty energy. If successful, the wind farm will be a realization of the peoples' dream to be a host only to clean, renewable power projects that contribute to curbing global climate change while also meeting local sustainable development goals, " said Athena Ballesteros, Greenpeace International Energy campaigner based in Negros.
http://www.greenpeace.org/raw/image_full/seasia/en/photosvideos/photos/75275.jpghttp://www.greenpeace.org/raw/image_full/seasia/en/photosvideos/photos/75380.jpg
An offshoot of the campaign by Greenpeace and people of Pulupandan became known as the Green Renewable Independent Power Producers (GRIPP) project, a province-wide clean energy campaign which has provided the blueprint for community-based energy projects.

Sojoton, a small village in the southern tip of Negros, has also been identified by experts as one of best wind energy sites in the country, and was therefore identified as a site for GRIPP. In 2002, the Greenpeace ship M/V Arctic Sunrise went to Sojoton and its crew joined the local community in installing three small units of wind turbines to demonstrate the viability of wind energy for lighting and other household purposes.

In the next few days, the Greenpeace delegation will be visiting the sites identified by GRIPP partners who have been conducting resource assessments of possible renewable energy projects in the province.

we need to change our mentality first before we change to federalism. specially if we aspire a federal Island state of Negros. we need to think as Negrenses with 2 major language hiligaynon and cebuano not as ilonggos and cebuanos living in negros. though majority of our ancestors came from the two Islands but we are not anymore like them in culture and in lifestyle but we still have some traits left from them.

Bacolod City needs to promote itself as a site for outsourced back-office operations, Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the Bacolod Information Technology Focus Team, said.

She also said that, aside from hosting call centers, she is also eyeing that the city will have locators for back-office operations like accounting, software development, engineering, architectural design, medical, legal and data transcription, computer graphics, animation, game development and design.

Bacolod has been named by an international firm as one of the upcoming IT hubs outside of Metro Manila, mainly due to several benchmarks, including presence of ICT infrastructure, connectivity redundancy, accredited real estate, qualified and highly-trainable human resource, among others.

There are now two IT zones in Bacolod City, the Robinsons Metro as IT building and The Block IT Park.

She also said that, aside from hosting call centers, she is also eyeing that the city will have locators for back-office operations like accounting, software development, engineering, architectural design, medical, legal and data transcription, computer graphics, animation, game development and design.

Batapa said during the e-Services Philippines global sourcing conference and exhibition next month, the IT Focus Team is expected to find more opportunities as officials of foreign companies will look for ICT sites during the event.

The Bacolod ICT Team will be joined by representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Office, she said. She added that, since the Philippines competes with more than 30 countries today for the BPO and ICT markets, it is important for Bacolod City and Negros Occidental to have the legal and technical background in attracting investments.

Bacolod has been named by an international firm as one of the upcoming IT hubs outside of Metro Manila, mainly due to several benchmarks, including presence of ICT infrastructure, connectivity redundancy, accredited real estate, qualified and highly-trainable human resource, among others.

The key is to make sure that incentives in real estate under national laws are easily available even in Bacolod, Batapa-Sigue said.

There are now two IT zones in Bacolod City, the Robinsons Metro as IT building and The Block IT Park.

I've always dreamed of a united Negros. not a divided one.

so let's start using Negrense as our identity.

I would like to make it clear, yes im here in negros, IDENTITY? Palihog lang before ka maghambal sang ginatwag nga identity, kabalo ka sang history mo? ako kabalo gid ko sang ginhalinan sang mga ancestors ko. Which added to your so called identity. Negrense, would be good yes, i would crazzy not to love that, and would not deny that I am also a negrense, what for am I doing kung hindi. Offense? you just offended the shit out of me, I may not know you. I respect where I came from, which is sa Ilo2x, needless to say, my so called identity.

Before you can offend somebody elses, please be reminded. Before you can judge a persons identity, you have to know first the history. whats with the name, if you yourself dont know where it came from.

Bacolod City - The Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) will build a four-storey medical center on a two-hectare property within the reclamation area middle of next year.

The facility, estimated to cost P1.2 billion, will be completed in the last quarter of 2008. Hospital equipment worth P500 million will be installed in the middle of 2009, said Bredco President Simplicio Palanca.

"This hospital will be called the Bacolod Medical Center. It will also be called People's Hospital because everyone is invited to invest in this endeavor and people from all walks of life are welcome to avail of the services without any discrimination," Mr. Palanca said in a press conference here.

He said they plan to invite medical specialists from Manila and abroad to render their service at the Bacolod Medical Center.

There are presently three private hospitals and one government-run hospital in Bacolod. These are the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital (formerly Riverside Medical Center), Bacolod Adventist Medical Center (formerly Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital) and Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital (formerly Chong Bi Hospital).

If you want negros to be united, start it with your family pre, make roots to your friends, to your neighbors, to your fellow men. I have done most what I can contribute so far. From staying with poor families for a week, live with them; educate how to make a sustainable living, make them see what makes them worth. Maningala ka, pero, mabatyagan mo may kinaiya ka.

I dont wanna start a conflict with you pre. my bad if i did offended you, it was not my intention though. I do know we had our freedom earlier than the other parts of the country and it was Island based indi lng occidental and indi lang ILONGGOS nga ara sa negros who fought for that freedom the cebuano speaking people did fought for that freedom too. not as ilonggos or cebuanos but as negrenses.

my apologies if what I wrote did turned out to be a personal attack and out of respect on you.

Suspension of work on
gov't center sought
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The president of Hilmarc's Construction Corp. wrote the Mayor requesting for a suspension of work on the Bacolod City Government Center project pending the issuance of a building permit.

Bacolod City Administrator Lorendo Dilag said he was furnished a copy of the letter of HCC president engineer Efren Canlas dated Jan. 26, which was addressed to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

He said the building permit and the Environmental Compliance Certificate are still being worked out at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Dilag said the temporary suspension will not affect the project which is supposed to be finished within one year and a half. "If HCC asked for a suspension of the work, the period for them to finish the project will also be suspended," he said.

Dilag said even if HCC suspends the digging, nothing will bar them from proceeding to do other works in connection with the construction. For example if they stop the digging, they can continue the pre-fabrication work at the site, he said.

Meanwhile, Dilag said he believes the case seeking the declaration of nullity of the contract between the city and HCC for the construction of the government center will be dismissed.

The complaint was filed against Leonardia, HCC, the members of the Bids and Awards Committee and the 10 councilors who authorized the Mayor to enter into a contract with HCC by members of the KABALAKA group.

Dilag said City Legal Officer Allan Zamora stated in the answer with special and affirmative defense that he submitted to the court that the complaint has no course of action since the city was not impleaded as a party-defendant in the case.

Zamora also raised the issue that the complaint is not a taxpayer's suit and the court has no jurisdiction over the case for failure of the plaintiffs to pay the mandated legal fees.

Zamora said a taxpayer's suit can be availed of if the plaintiffs comply with two requirements, and one is if the money to be used comes from taxation. In the case of the government center the source of funds is not taxation, but the loan from LBP, he said.

On the other hand, Leonardia said he was informed that their political opponents will file another case, if the complaint is dismissed.

Dilag said he is trying to verify who is the incumbent politician allegedly behind the case. He believes the one who has a motive has the reason to sabotage the project, he said.

Leonardia said there is a provision in the LBP loan that if there is a case, it will not release the loan. While the complaint will probably be dismissed later, he said, the construction of the project will be delayed.

Leonardia said they have no word from LBP yet except that it will forward the case to the bank's legal department in Manila for evaluation. "I expect the loan (15 percent mobilization fund) to be released within the first two weeks of January and it's the end of the month already," he said.

"The people will be the one who will judge us, because I believe many want the city to have a new City Hall," Leonardia said.

"The people know we did everything we can to come up with a new City Hall but, unfortunately, there are those who want to sabotage the project and are finding ways to delay or stop it," he said.

Bacoleños know who are these people, and also know that they are the ones who do not want Bacolod to progress because of their selfish motives. It is very sad, he added.*CGS

In regards to what you have written on what stores will be seeing first light, during the opening of SM City Bacolod, sadly all i can say is Sigh...a deep resounding sigh.. it seems to me that most of the stores that are gonna open in SM are already in either ROB or Gaisano City plus some of them are locally based and are not doing so well, take for example ang Cookies and Crumbs in Gaisano City it is an overated cookie stall/shop or whatever u call it kag MAHAL pa sila P25.00 for 1 cookie? kag so-so lng ang sabor, bakal na lng ako CHIPS AHOY, kag its so frustrating to see the usual line-up of fastfood restaurants here in bacolod McDo-Jollibee-Chowking-Pizzahut and the same line-up is likely to open in SM as well, KA sum-od! it wud be nice to have something new for a change, Kenny Rogers, NYC pizza, Subway, Terriyaki Boy, Go-nuts Donuts etc. stores like this tani ang ma abre sa SM City, my Aunt who owns Kamiseta Bacolod was planning on opening a Thai restaurant along with her Kamiseta store in SM but it never pushed through(except for Kamiseta) for reasons unknown, it would also be nice if there will be shops/stores that are UNIQUE like umm, Indoor Shooting Range, Air-Soft specialty shops, Basketball and Other Hobby Shops, Novelty Shops, or Shops selling WWE merchandise, shops that will really catch our attention, and uhh will there be a TOY KINGDOM? and more importantly will there be VIDEO arcades/amusement Parks? like Quantum or Woof in ROB? will SM bacolod also have that Kiddie TRAIN that goes around the basement area of SM CITY ILOILO?

And have u guys seen the soon to open Mister Donut Cafe and Restaurant?, one word lng...WOW. Finally Mister Donut is taking a big big leap and making its move in trying to make its mark on the Cafe industry usually dominated by BOBS and McCafe, the restaurant is BIG and fancy looking, nag sosyal na sila the place is a shadow of its former self cos usually Mister Donut Shops here in Bacolod are limited to small stores or sidewalk stalls, But is this too big of a leap? only time will tell i guess.

Okay, this is just an honest observation no insults intended, I have noticed that compared to Video Arcades here in Bacolod (Woof/Quantum)that are Bongga with all the bells and whistles, the VIDEO ARCADES like in SM CITY ILOILO, Gaisano City Iloilo are somewhat stuck in a time warp, all their machines are Old, outdated, most are defective and alot of machines date back as far as 1989, i shud know im a big big Video Game/Arcade Buff, is the video arcade market not that strong in Iloilo? and if the Video Arcade market is strong here, im really hoping that SM Bacolod will try to cash in on this and put up a better and bigger Video Amusement park

When SM city Bacolod opens this Coming March 2, im gonna record it on video every side of the mall, every nook and cranny and post it on YOUTUBE, to hopefully encourage ppl outside bacolod to come and visit

Im concerned about comparisons dude, you might just light up a fuse. Here in SSC, as much as possible we refuse to compare city to another city. Ask the old forumers around here and they will explain what were the consequences that most of us don't want to dig into again. ;) Payo sang kasimanwahay ni. :)

With regards to video arcades, im not particular with it but according to some of my friends in Bibo, Quantum and SM in Iloilo, video arcades are diminishing since the advent of Role Play gaming or network games.

Smiles and Grandeur... That's funny... I'm "smiling" already...

On something that you and Lim have been arguing about...

I think we really should establish our own identity. We all do have connections with the "other" city. I too had girlfriends from Iloilo. Parents also came from Iloilo. But I say that I'd rather be identified as Negrosanon than as Ilonggo... Why? Well, let's put it this way, I choose to love and be identified with the land that nurtured me and made me what I am today.

Does an American say he is British because his ancestors came from England? Or Irish because his parents fled Ireland because of the famine? Or German because the family escaped the holocaust? They don't...

If I do not love my place, I would have chosen not to invest in Metropolitan Bacolod and used my money to immigrate to Australia or N.Z. I could have chosen to invest in properties in Manila... but I chose to invest Bacolod because I love its people... Whenever friends ask for help in finding people, I always choose to get people from Bacolod and Negros. I do hope that people from Bacolod & Negros would learn to love it and be identified with their place rather than just saying that they are Ilonggo because they speak Hiligaynon.

I don't think that it is about McDonald's being McDonald's that makes the Bacoleno to go there instead of Jollibee. I think that most Negrense people love America so much that any American business establishment will always be assured of a higher market share.

We cannot argue regarding whose identity will it be. Lets hope that this "identity" issue would not lead to "Tutsi-Hutu relations of Rwanda" (and it will never be) Let him believe what he believes in. I'm also Ilonggo but long questioned my real identity as my father came from Iloilo, my mom a Zamboanguena-Ilocana & grew up in Cavite and Cebu. What am I? :? One things for sure: I'm Noypi.

i think generally speaking ilonggo ang tawag sa hiligaynon speaking people irregardless kon taga negros, cotobato, capiz, antque, some parts in palawan.i may not consider aklan but some can speak hilagaynon ,too.pareho man na sang cebuano ang tawag taga davao, cagayan de oro, some parts sang zamboanga.and also ilocano nga tag Launion ,pangasinan some parts, tuguegarao.

we can't deny the fact that our history speaks for itself.it did not happen overnight.

so if people will ask you ilonggo ka? yes, ilonggo ako nga taga negros. kay may cebuano man nga taga negros.ilonggo ako nga tagacotabato etc.
ilonggo doesn.t mean nga taga iloilo ka.

Before ilonggo people nga taga Mindanao kag Negros diri ga eskuela sa iloilo.
Before cebuano people nga taga mindanao didto ga eskuela sa cebu.

ti subong universities from mindanao and negros are paralleled to those in iloilo and cebu some are better.
everybody has it's freedom to tell where is she/he belongs, identifies.to say what he she/he feels.

ang basulon ta mga ginikanan ta kay gusto gid mag-asawa or makapamana sang taga iloilo kag taga negros?

I am promoting Negros on all my travels, and IloIlo too. Not because i want to seclude and being just as an ilonggo, or negrense. Anyway, TIMAWA ako sang Ilonggo Nation(Negros and IloIlo). Very aware, of all of its, history, culture, and detailed roots(some- most of it but not all- though, hehehe).

Thing is, Hiligaynon speaking person, especially for us who is actually sons and daughters of the language, we have to be proud, never pull down other groups just because. Let us be aware that if not of our ancestors, wether heroes or not, by from business or farmers. all of us lived the most colorful history of this beuatiful nation, (eventhough its not that promoted much), we never experienced from rags to riches, ours is the opposite, and we are building our reputation again, and I am very much excited to show what IloIlo can say and so of Negros Occidental.

We must tend not to falter to things that we should appreciate, little things that we must do, and detailed captions of our history. We have to say that this is us(ilonggos and negrenses), one language, divided by seas, one by soul.

We have to set aside, whos from where and where not. WE are not in philippines politics, we are a nation of proud people, of this proud land. Even "others" would say we are "TIKALON", so what, may "ITIKAL" man ya. Tikal is pride, yes, and not boastful. Sorry sila, sino pa ang nakabalo sang hiligaynon language kundi, KITA. I respect where I came from. As for being a Negrense, no offense, since the cebuano came, Ilonggo dominates. for Negros, most of the cebuano speaking have roots from IloIlo. Check NSO, search and search. You will see. I mean We will be enlightened.

To all, wahehehehe. ILONGGO TA YA, or NEGRENSE.

ang basulon ta mga ginikanan ta kay gusto gid mag-asawa or makapamana sang taga iloilo kag taga negros?

you can't really blame them. daw manami gid man pamatian nga ang imo pangasaw-on or pamanahon taga iloilo or taga negros.

perme lang ko makabati sang mga girls sa manila nga daw maano gid kay may bf/fiance nga taga bacolod/iloilo.

pero daw never pa gid ko kabati sang girl nga naghambal "gusto ko maka-marry ng cebuano" . (no offense to the cebu people who may read this).

With regards to video arcades, im not particular with it but according to some of my friends in Bibo, Quantum and SM in Iloilo, video arcades are diminishing since the advent of Role Play gaming or network games.

kk, so noted, jst forget my comment up there ever existed hehehe, and lets just change the subject k, peace sa mga taga iloilo, our family lineage is from there eh so medyo sentimental ako dun.

Oh please...sa amon haw? Bukid baya Miagao. UP Visayas has the largest number of Bracket 1-5 students sa STFAP or subsidized sila sa tanan sa tibuok UP system.

Look closely before judging bai. Not all UP students have cars and most of us have to take the trike going to our dorms. Stereotyping and Generalization is something that we Filipinos must minimize on our system.

We know that there are loopholes in the system, its a reality that must be fixed. But judging UP with cars is not the gauge of how many elite students are there in UP.

This topic is not appropriate in this thread. Naa man sa Samahan thread to discuss this eh.

A big sigh indeed. Nothing new. I was expecting to see out of town based shops and restos. I was hoping Marks and Spencer would open a branch. So with Marithe Francois Girbaud, Anonymous, Human, Mendrez shoes. Also the French Baker, Figaro/Starbucks/Seattle's Best (any of the 3 will do. Kuppa is doing well, so why not a Starbucks?), Superbowl, Yellow Cab Pizza, Wendy's/Burger King, TokyoTokyo, Teriyaki Boy, Go Nuts/KrispyKreme (i wish), Subway, Don Henrico's (this chain offers reasonable prices), Auntie Anne's. Well, i was hoping at least two to three of the above chains open here but alas, daw wala gid na mention.

With mostly local shops, what will happen is SM will siphon shoppers away from downtown and bring them to its mall, virtually killing the competition. In a way, they will alter shopping habits of the locals. I was expecting that with out of town chains coming in through SM, it will raise the level of competition and eventually raise our shopping standards. For example, if Bob's and Figaro/Starbucks are both in SM, then it will be an opportunity for Bob's to prove that they can compete with Figaro/ Starbucks. Same with French Baker, it will compete with Bakers. At least we can compare them and thus, push Baker's to improve its products, packaging and logistics. Sa lasa, masarap naman ang Baker's, mura pa. SM's entry should be beneficial to local businesses as it will push them to compete and improve and eventually, branch out of Negros. SM can also be a window of opportunity for our very own NAPOLEONES. Through SM, Napoleones will be marketed outside of Negros.

Well, let us see when SM opens.

McCafe is adjacent to Bacolod's first McDonald's branch. It's a busy street but it has a nice ambience where you can relax. Its perfect for hanging out with your friends. They serve different kinds of coffee, frappes and desserts.

McCafe, the first outside Metro Manila, in Bacolod. The impressive modernization and rehabilitation work must have cost millions of pesos. And the move meant a new aproach to the food industry by the McCafe which is run by Butch Lopez.

Bacolod McCafe represents a new mindset among Negrense entrepreneurs. Now they are not repatriating their money to other parts of the ccountry, but are spearhading the investment of their resources right where it could help develop the local economy.

;11581298'] Lasaltech launches first cyberstore in Bacolod

Internet Service Provider Lasaltech, Inc. will launch the McDonald's Bacolod Online Order System website (www.mcdobacolod.com), the first McDonald's store in the Philippines to go online and make ordering facility available for local customers via the Internet.
The Lasaltech -McDonald's Bacolod partnership was consummated on February 2003 after a month of negotiations with Bacolod franchise holder Butch Lopez,. Mcdonald's objective is to put up a virtual store where customers can see Mcdonald's full menu, specials, promos, etc. without leaving the home or office, just punch a few keys on the computer and orders are delivered right at your doorstep.
Lasaltech developed and hosted the Mcdonald's website and will be handing its Web-based orders from Bacolod City customers.
"Lasaltech made it again the first IT company in Bacolod City to provide Negrenses the E-commerce and call center solutions to business establishments in Negros", Lasaltech's general manager Ma. Gemma dela Cruz. source (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2003/March/18/businessnews4.htm)

Wi-Fi in Bacolod

BACOLOD -- The Technology 1 and McDonald's Lacson pioneered the free Wi-Fi Wireless or Fidelity Services in Bacolod City.

Wi-Fi gives users immediate broadband access, allowing download of huge amounts of data at high speed in a mobile setting.

Seeing the need for broadband access, people behind Technology 1 extends this amenity at a reasonable rate with the shared interest of local businesses supporting the use of WI-FI as a community resource.

Technology 1 is the Philippines' first exclusive distributor of Sputnik Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of Wi-Fi software and hardware creating platforms for wireless networks designed for business and institutions.

Among those who have shown support to Technology 1 's WI-FI services are Butch Lopez, franchise owner of McDonald's Bacolod and JB Mapa, Branch Manager-Western Region of Supercat.

Having a Wi-Fi zone in their area of business gives their patrons the added advantage of logging on to the internet wirelessly while waiting for their ferry ride or as they enjoy a happy plus "hi-tech" meal.

Each stop at McDonald's Lacson can be a Power Meal with no time wasted by availing the WI-FI amenity offered within the confines of this fastfood area.

Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) is a free, wireless connection made possible by Technology 1 and McDonald's Lacson, providing its customers the ability to access large amounts of internet data at high speed even while on the go.

With the Wi-Fi service at McDonald's Lacson, one might seen an AirBox sitting in tile comer on the left of the main entrance.

The box contains the system by which one can log on to the internet for free, if you happen to have your laptop or personal digital assistant (PDA) with you.

Besides time being well spent, using Technology 1's Wi-Fi service encourages the commuting public of Bacolod City to be well-informed and globally competitive as city life spins at an even faster pace.

Technology 1 believes that Bacolod is well on its way to becoming a hi-tech, savvy city in this computer-driven Information Age.

For more info on AirBox Wi-Fi, visit Technology 1 at Door No. 1 Lopue's East Centre Annex, Carlos-Hilado National Highway, Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City or one may also email at wifi@technolph.com. or call tel/Fax 7083138/4349744. source (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2004/10/29/bus/wi.fi.in.bacolod.html)

Eric, of course, i do not expect Krispy Kreme to open in bacolod, that is why i wrote "i wish" immediately after. I also do not expect all the establishments i mentioned will open. I said i was hoping at least two or three will open.

It will be reasonable to expect a Don Henrico's and French Baker to open. As to Starbucks/ Figaro, i believe it is feasible. Do you know that there is a local coffee shop "Kuppa" which is like Starbucks with prices a little more pricey than Bob's but is doing very well? It is right across St John's Institute. There are a couple of Starbucks outlets in Cebu so i think Rustan's should consider opening one both in Bacolod and in Iloilo. I read in the news last week that Figaro is considering expanding in major cities outside of Metro Manila and abroad. Anyway, what i was hoping was SM will offer something new and provide competition to the existing shopping areas. What it did is it mostly replicated the existing shops and might just virtually kill the competition. I hope not.

Talking about food, did any of you guys from bacolod remember CONEY ISLAND? located adjacent Plaza Mart Mall b4 during the early 80's?, and another branch was located somewhere near Riverside Hospital? sigh i will choose their ice cream over Magnolia or Selecta any day, i remember the ESKIMO ROLL, god that was my favorite and their Cotton Candy was Humongous, i remeber my dad bringing me there B4 when i was in elementary. As i recall it was owned by purefoods, then went belly up after a couple of years, maybe because ppl at that time just werent ready for that kind of food concept, but i bet if they open again in this youthful new-age market, i bet they'd do just fine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

What to order in bacolod when going to....

Calea: Blueberry Cheesecake "the best hands down"
Bobs: Sate Babe, Black Forest
Apollo restaurant: Beef with garlic sauce, Pork Asado

calea's blueberry cheesecake and oreo cheesecake is a "to-die-for" kis a gapadala pa ko an diri sa manila sang 1 box of cheesecake when craving are no longer uncontrollable. eheheh

Don Pepe's @ Piazza Sorrento is also good. i love their fish.,. i guess its steamed something with cream sauce, and their caesar salad.

pero pinaka na miss ko mag puli pirmi is the Talaba. my golly. eheheh hidlaw na gid ako talaba. i dont eat talaba here in manila kay kung halin sa roxas ang talaba, dollar ang presyo, like 150 pesos for 10 pieces, or the oyster isfrom manila, ti wala ako salig sa sea waters diri...

Being the center of Sugarlandia - is definitely not wanting in heavenly desserts. Pastries and confectionery are equally renowned. This is after all the birthplace of in-demand pasalubongs like piaya, barquillos, napoleones, batchoy, guapple pie, pastel de manga, panyo-panyo, and pinasugbo are all worth sampling. A must-eat dish is the fresh lumpia (fresh spring roll; not fried). A delicately exquisite treat wrapped in a paper thin translucent crepe filled with fresh coconut tree heart (ubod), pork and shrimp with a garnish of scallion. Other native sweets include butong-butong (similar to the Tagalog tira-tira), inday inday (Negros version of the palitaw), bayi bayi (flavored like the espasol), dulce gatas and the puto Manapla ranked among the favorites. Metropolitan is also presently giving Davao and the Bicol Region a run for their pastilles de durian and pili nuts.

Food-making is such a way of life for the Negrense that in places like Silay, they have the age-old ritual of the manug-libud. This activity happens daily in the market area where enterprising womenfolk barter and display 50 or more kinds of the town's best delicacies. Of course, the culinary excitement peaks during the MassKara Festival where stalls of lechon, barbecue, lumpia and other specialties can be sampled by the revelers.

incognito> must eat desert ay Calea its either beside the L' Fisher Hotel or in Robinson's Place. Must try Blueberry Cheesecake and oreo cheescake. their prices are dirt-cheap.

if u are a heritage freak, u try visiting the old houses in Silay City, 15 mins drive north of bacolod. transpo is not a problem. damo da jeep. then go to balay negrense museum. balay ina sang una sang pamilya Gaston, Yves Gaston is the father of Sugar Industry in Negros.

When in bacolod try visiting the negros m useum, and check out their extensive collections of dolls from other countries.

guys, makadto ako sa bacolod this Saturday with my family for a day trip, where do you guys recommend that we go? Must see, must eat and must buys,Where to eat?

Palmas Del Mar Village and beach club

El Ideal Silay= En panada, guapple pie, etc.

Bacolod City Lagoon: Great for early morning Exercises

For Eat all you can on a budget i suggest "FT Bar and Grill" P110 eat all u can

For Eat all you can with a stretchy wallet i suggest L'Fisher or Business Inn

Mama Marias Pizza= Great Pizza, low price, the only place that makes
a 30" sized Pizza.

or you can order a pastry called "Kulolo" its neither a cake nor a muffin, were even trying to guess what the heck it is, but i can definitley say its unique, great taste very tropical but kind of pricey, but its worth it, and theres only one place in the philippines where u can order this Pastry, actually its not a Bakery or restaurant but you order it by calling this Number: 034-4345856, a family from bacolod makes it in their home, alot of big wigs and their family friends order there for cakes and patries and other dishes, and they have this trademark that all their pastries are freshly baked, theyll only make it when u order it, they dont pre-bake, thats why their customers order 1 to 2 days before they pick it up, i just ordered 2 boxes of Kulolo, im going to bring it with me, when i visit my cousin in La Carlota next week

k ill try, but ill try to describe it, its sort of a brownish square-ish in shape, the cake is filled with a lot of Fruits and its topped with a gooey sweetish milky cocunut layer with Toasted Cashew nuts, not for the faint hearted XD anyway 1 box is P650 with 30-34 slices depending on how u want it sliced, each slice is as big as a square brownie but of course a bit taller, anyway i just ordered it whole and unsliced, and i just ordered a box of Bannana Fudge cupcakes from them the other day and my family ate it all the minute i opened the box, u cud say it was gone in 60 seconds, its unlike those kalye or normal banana cakes u see in stores or from street vendors, its really really moist and very sweet, i bought it for P4.50 each but u have to order at least 50pcs, hehe but 50pcs wasnt even enough for my family, and the way they package their pastries and food may not be as flashy as Bobs or the others, they dont need to cos believe me the taste speaks for itself

Arroyo to lead officials at Teletech inauguration

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be the guest of honor today at the inauguration rites of the customer management center of Teletech in Bacolod City, the business process outsourcing provider's first in Western Visayas.

Arroyo will also visit the PNOC-Energy Development Corp. geothermal plant in Bago City and the airport of international standards in Silay City.

Such location strategy, he said, complements Arroyo's call for more investors in the provinces. Arroyo, during her meeting with Teletech chairman and chief executive officer, Kenneth Tucman, in Davos, Switzerland last week. cont'd (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/February/02//businessnews1.htm)
