Negros does not depend only in sugar industry...right now the province is doing well in terms of handycrafts, fruits and vegetables, real estate, marine products and many more. Havent you noticed that in Lacson street, it is lined up with banks left and right. Somehow the businesses in Negros are doing well plus the remittances coming from our kasimanwas abroad are of big help in keeping the banking industry grow. :).
Oh I see that answered my question, thanks for the info smile.:) :) :)

DFA sub-office
sought for Bacolod
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
A resolution requesting the seven congressmen in Negros Occidental and the Lone District of Bacolod City to work on congressional action for the establishment of the Department of Foreign Affairs sub-regional office in the city or in the province was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod recently.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Alex Paglumotan, said the DFA is very vital, if not significant to the needs of the Bacoleños and Negrenses as far as foreign related traveling activity is concerned. Records show that in the actual latest and projected census, based on population, Negros Occidental has 2,713,999 and Bacolod has 453,873, it said.
The resolution said thousands of Bacoleños and Negrenses are traveling as tourists or businessmen or working as Overseas Filipino Workers.
It said they will definitely be benefited by the convenience, secondary to economic reasons, by the establishment of a DFA sub-regional office in the city or province, in processing their travel documents and requirements.
The resolution also said it is high time that Bacolod City and Negros Occidental have a DFA sub-regional office, through a Congressional action to be undertaken by the seven congressmen from the different Congressional districts of the province including Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, the SP also passed a resolution directing the General Services Office through the Office of the Mayor, to furnish the SP and the Vice Mayor's Office the voluminous copy of movable and immovable assets of the city to be used as official references in aid of local legislation.
The resolution was also authored by Paglumotan.*CGS

Correct,So much waste of time and money travelling across the island. You have to spend the whole day at least but sometimes if you inform them that you are from Bacolod they will give priority on you.Imagine if you're from other part of Negros, not from Bacolod,it's too troublesome. You have to be in Bacolod very early and take the first trip of ferry. And if you are having a bad day like you missed a document....Oh my...comeback another day or see you later.hehehe.I'm glad they are taking action on this one.

And I hope they will also put up a PRC sub office here in Bacolod... the last time i went there it was sooooooooooooooo crowded and most of the people lining up were from Bacolod and Negros Occidental. PRC office in Iloilo is so small and it can only accomodate around 40-60 persons inside their office, and the rest will just wait outside and wait for their turn.

ay korek! its always a pain in the *** mag process papers sa PRC iloilo. for a very small office at that, its suppose to serve the entire professionals of region 6! dyosko!
they need to get a larger space in iloilo, AND at the same time, build a provincial sub-office in bacolod. para ang taga negros indi na mag gasto barko.

Ethanol corridor
plan ideal for Negros
Director Mario Marasigan of the Department of Energy said he welcomes the proposal of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to set up an ethanol corridor in Negros Island.
"Negros is an ideal place for ethanol production," Marasigan, who heads the Energy Utilization Management Bureau, said Friday at the sidelights of the Philippine Energy Plan Update Public Consultation. He said an ethanol corridor includes lands serving as plantation areas for fuel production with open access to road or rail networks.
These big areas are planted to ethanol feedstocks but not limited to sugarcane as corn and sweet sorghum can also be grown as sources of ethanol, Marasigan said.
He said that aside from Negros, the DOE is also looking at other places that can be established as an ethanol corridor.
A study of the Ethanol Alliance indicated that Negros has the potential to host seven to nine biofuel production facilities and each can produce an average of 100,000 liters to 150,000 liters of ethanol a day.
Investors in Negros include San Carlos Bioenergy Inc., with a daily production capacity of 100,000 liters, at a P945-million investment; Negros Green Resources Inc., 120,000 liters, P980 million investment; Canlaon Alcogreen Inc., 60,000 liters, P750 million; JG Summit Holdings, 100,000 liters, P742 million; and Tamlang Valley Ethanol, 200,000 liters, P1.3 billion.
SCBI is currently constructing its facility which is expected to start commercial operations next year.*NLG

gesssssh,Even CHED regional office doesn't look like an office. It's like my "suking tindahan sa kanto"Why couldn't they just create a website that we can process our application for licences renewal online, pay with credit cards or banks transfer fund directly to the account of the regional office and make a tie up with LBC or FEDEX or the local post office to do the delivery. This is a very efficient and productive method.By this we can iliminate corruption, bribery and less stress. No more fixers. They don't even need to locate sub offices. And another idea is send the filled up application form together with the old license to them and pay them thru money order or funds transfer and then deliver to us after afterwards.I hope they can think some ideas like this because it will be less stress and pressures for them and will be more easier and convenient for us as well.

ay korek! its always a pain in the *** mag process papers sa PRC iloilo. for a very small office at that, its suppose to serve the entire professionals of region 6! dyosko!
they need to get a larger space in iloilo, AND at the same time, build a provincial sub-office in bacolod. para ang taga negros indi na mag gasto barko.
Well, I think they don't have any budget for that. This is another agency of the government that the anti-graft people should watch out also. Daming under-d-tables. He he he he he.

im not sure about putting regional office here in bacolod. kay as far as i know the regional offices are all based in Iloilo, being the regional capital of WV.
pero for the local offices, i guess didto gid man ina sila itampok tanan sa govt center. (dapat lang!)
i remember when i was still a resident of bacolod, makuha ko birth certificate sa City registrar lapit sa west negros, ma byahe pa ko liwat going to city hall just to pay, tapos balik na naman sa west negros. its just sooooo inconvenient.

another ethanol plant will be rise in our sugarland
July 24, 2007
San Miguel plans ethanol production in Bago (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/July/24/topstory7.htm)
San Miguel Corporation yesterday confirmed to the Philippine Stock Exchange that it is planning to develop ethanol production projects in various areas in the country, including Negros Occidental.
“The Company confirms that it is studying a possible investment in ethanol production as part of its strategic supply assurance for its liquor business,” Ferdinand Constantino, corporate information officer, said in a disclosure to the PSE.
It was reported yesterday that SMC is targeting a 22,000-hectare land in Bago City to be planted for sugarcane as feedstock for ethanol production.
Negros, with its vast sugarcane plantations, is considered a primary source of ethanol.
The food and beverage conglomerate is looking into 76,000 hectares of sugarcane land for about 10 plants, each with 100,000 liter daily capacity, the report cited by PSE said.
SMC had written to the Sugar Regulatory Administration to ask for government assistance in identifying land areas suitable for sugarcane.
Aside from Negros Occidental, also being eyed by SMC are 18,000 hectares each in Batangas, Ilocos and Tarlac.
The report said that SMC is estimated to invest between P8.68 billion and P16.28 billion for the ethanol plants alone which may have combined capacity of one million liters per day or 100,000 LPDs for each of the 10 plants.
In northern Negros, an ethanol plant is being constructed by San Carlos Bioenergy Inc., which is expected to produce 100,000 liters a day when its begins its commercial operations next year.
Four other ethanol production plants are being proposed in Negros, including the one by the Gokongwei-owned JG Summit Holdings.*NLG

ILOILO SCHOOL BOARD HERE TO STUDY LIBRARY HUB
Members of the Iloilo City School Board were in Bacolod recently to get a closer look at the Library Hub of the City.

Oist, kakapoy bala magbyahe bisan kondisonado guid ang lawas mo. The thing about DSB is that although it cuts the travel by half unlike passing by Escalante City, it has so many curves. Its a long and winding 80kilometer road to San Carlos.
The road to Escalante on the other hand has few curves yet it would take hours to reach San Carlos City.
I'll be doing that frequently na, hehe! :D The scenes and the adventurism is worth the trip for me.

RE: new bishops palaca annex. they should have followeed what FEU did to their Art Deco buildings. they preserved it, then build new buildings beside it, but it perfectly blends with the original Art Deco structures.
check the photo below: everything on the right is art Deco built around 30's and 40's but the glass towes is obviously new, yet, it still blends well. indi sya preho sang bishops palace nga ka balik-awot. it doesnt complement the palace.

SM named most-friendly to disabled (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/July/25/people.htm#people5)
SM Supermalls, particularly Mall of Asia, has been awarded the “Most Disabled Friendly Mall Award for 2007, in ceremonies held recently at Heroes Hall of Malacañang Palace, a press release from SM management said.
Japan International Cooperation Agency chief adviser Akiie Ninomiya visited Hans Sy to congratulate SM Supermalls for its efforts in promoting a non-handicapping environment in the Philippines, it also said.
JICA, through the Asia Pacific Development Center on Disability based in Bangkok, has been in collaboration with SM Supermalls in the promotion of a barrier free environment for the handicapped and elderly.
This has been presented through a speech by its president, Annie Garcia which was delivered at the United Nations Convention Center in Bangkok in June, upon the invitation of the APCD, to share the efforts of a private sector in promoting a non-handicapping environment in the Philippines, the press release said.
JICA and the APCD commended SM for endeavor and call on the other private entities to follow suit.
Meanwhile, SM City Bacolod was the venue of this year’s National Disability Week celebration in Bacolod City. A photo exhibit, chair massage and cataract checkup were spearheaded by the Christian Foundation for Persons with Disability or CFPD, the press release said.
A cultural program showcasing the talents of persons with disability was also held at the north wing Event Center of the Bacolod wall.
The mall will also conduct a seminar on disability to its employees, security and tenant personnel next week, the press release added.*

Bernie what area is that you said "saka sa Bukid "he cemented road? just curious lang ako is that Don Salvador? the last time I went to Don Salvador was 1998.
Yup, its Don Salvador Benedicto. Most of the portions of the Bacolod-San Carlos Road has been concreted except for a few meters somewhere east of the poblacion of DSB and the climbing section of the San Carlos ridge.

The Concert King at Robinsons Place Bacolod
MARTIN Nievera joins Robinsons Place Bacolod on its 10th year anniversary celebration.
So catch the “Concert King”, Martin Nievera in one unforgettable performance this Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Fountain Area with a Live concert and autograph signing as he promotes his new album.
Martin Nievera’s new album entitled “Awit ng Puso”, is a collection of OPM love classics that have swept everyone’s heart in the past and have scaled the charts on radios.
Two decades of heartwarming tales of the heart through indelible hit after the other, Martin showcases a 14-track tribute album to the best OPM songwriters and singers of all time.
First single is a remake of When I Met You borrowed from the APO Hiking Society which became popular in the 80s and will soon be accompanied with a music video on top music channels directed by Treb Monteras.
Martin Nievera’s other hit-making covers of timeless and beautiful songs from the biggest names in local pop music industry included in the album are Kahit Na originally sung by the Divine Diva, Zsa Zsa Padilla; May Minamahal popularized by Hajji Alejandro; Sharon Cuneta’s Sana’y Maghintay Ang Walang Hanggang composed by Willy Cruz and Baby Gil; and he also does a composition of Ogie Alcasid in the song Kailangan Kita.
Martin also does Without Love borrowed from Joey Albert; a remake of Kuh Ledesma’s I Think I’m In Love written by Cecile Azarcon; Love Without Time sung by Nonoy Zuniga; I believe In Dreams popularized by Janno Gibbs and Side A Band; an all-time favorite love song Closer You And I, a Gino Padilla-original from the 90s; Sinasamba Kita from Rey Valera’s greatest hits; and a Basil Valdes hit in the 80s, You, composed by the late Gerry Paraiso.
Also included is Martin Nievera’s duet with Regine Velasquez in the song Kailangan Ko, Kailangan Mo is originally duet by Richard Tann and Bambi Bonus. From the contemporary Filipino classics from the past 30 years, a new original composition of Louie Ocampo and Freddie Santos of the song In Love is also included as Martin’s wrings out how it is being in love through this ballad.
”Awit ng Puso” is a follow up to Martin’s album released in 2005 called “When Love is Gone” which boasts 17 tracks of songs for the broken heart, is now certified Platinum album which has sold 15,000 units all over the country. Martin was also awarded as the 19th Awit Awards (2006) as Favorite Male Artist of the Year and awardee for Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award.
^^ Reminder: Tomorrow,27 july, friday, Robinson's will going to present thier proposed mall expansion.

The Sanpark Building would probably be a 4 to 5 storey building as the columns are a bit too small.
They should have joined the twin towers so that it would look more substantial. As it is, it looks too tiny.
I am surprised that the hotel is bigger than what I've expected. It will probably add another 80 rooms to the Bacolod Pavillion Hotel.
For now we have a total numbers of 2,037 hotel rooms within bacolod.
The new hotels are the Tamera Plaza Inn – Lacson street, an economy class and the Northwest Inn.
we have also the hotel soon to open beside the Metro Dome.
Montelibano announced the New Silay Master Plan which is the creation of a “New City” around the Bacolod-Silay Airport referring in particular to Hacienda Naga. Said plan is a commitment to convert areas surrounding the airport into special economic zones and export processing points.
Also added, plans for a golf course, a horse race track, a car race track and a five-star hotel with 3,000-seat conventional hall will be constructed.

Bascon Cafe
The Bascon Cafe has a nice ambience, its very cozy you'll feel typical ilonggo hospitality. It mostly caters to students as it is near schools. They serve a variety of snacks and they have delicious cakes. Seating capacity in this cafe is no more than 15 and from the first day they opened we've been bugging the owners to expand because we knew for sure the place would be a hit in this neighborhood. They run a hotel in the city and the best parties are catered by them. This cafe is an extension of their passion for food but this time with desserts and fresh bread such as foccaccia, wheat pan de sal, croissants, etc. Café address @ Corazon Locsin Montelibano Ave.
Directions From the Chinese temple going towards La Salle, it's to your right.
Kuppa Coffee and Tea - another progress for expansion. that is along Galo Street, Shopping Center (chinatown) near corner of Narra Avenue, bacolod. thanks to Smile.

The new hotels are the Tamera Plaza Inn – Lacson street, an economy class and the Northwest Inn.
we have the La Plaza Hotel soon to open beside the Metro Dome, nice name of hotel. we need to add more numbers of rooms here in Bacolod and even outside bacolod.
announced the New Silay Master Plan which is the creation of a “New City” around the Bacolod-Silay Airport referring in particular to Hacienda Naga. Said plan is a commitment to convert areas surrounding the airport into special economic zones and export processing points.
Also added, plans for a golf course, a horse race track, a car race track and a five-star hotel with 3,000-seat conventional hall will be constructed.

I suppose Bacolod can still accomodate another BPO...thats what Councilor Batapa is doing right now. She's tasked to invite BPO to invest in our city. With our rich human resources, it wont be impossible for us to attract BPO's to invest. As of the moment, I dont have any statistical data as to how many BPO's are actively operating around the City.

Sir Henry (Funtecha) told me that Hiligaynon is such an intricate and very complicated language with all the flair and the right terms with the right accent for the statement. You have to learn it with all your heart to know it.
The Bacolod variety of Hiligaynon Sina came from Jaro and Molo while the Iloilo variety is a mix of the Salognon (Jaroleño) and Molo plus the Kinaray-a language.

Funny how Philippines got so many dialects. But then the sweetest accent i guess are the ones coming from Capiz....I love it when i hear them say HAY!!! before they say something. I often burst into laughters when my friend starts to talk...its really cute!!!!!

What they are referring about is the expansion inside the mall...in the north and west wing respectively. With regards to the new expansion...that remains to be seen coz they really have this plan of expanding at the back of the mall. It will be something different coz i guess they have this new concept in mind.

'Bacolod wants to share call centers jobs' (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/July/28/businessnews3.htm)
Bacolod City needs people from other areas to meet the demand for workers in call centers in the city, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.
Leonardia, who spoke before members of the Negros Occidental Teachers Federation Inc., said that when Bacolod started in 2004, it was not even in the Information Technology map of the Philippines. Then the city government created an IT Focus Team in 2005, he said, and aggressively campaigned to make Bacolod the IT capital of Western Visayas.
"I'm glad to report to you that our efforts paid off," he told the teachers.
Leonardia said at least 2,500 new employment opportunities came up through the call centers in Bacolod in just a little more than a year.
Bacolod hosts TeleTech at Robinsons Metro in front of Bacolod City Airport and Teleperformance at Luxur Hotel in Magsaysay Avenue.
"This is not the end of the story yet, for the biggest call center in the country is also going to open soon in Bacolod ," he said, referring to Convergys.
"Let us be more focused on English," Leonardia urged the teachers. "We could give the necessary training for our students in their elementary and secondary years."*

Light Up!
EXPERIENCE the thrill and excitement of a world class exhibition of laser, lights and sounds as it transforms Robinson’s Place Bacolod fountain area into a galaxy of lights Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m.
The laser show which is a sequel to last year's "The Symphony of Lights", is another special treat from Robinson’s Place Bacolod as it celebrates its 10th year anniversary of giving us delightful shopping, entertainment and dining experience.
The laser show is presented to us by Argon Animation Inc., both the pioneer and the only registered company dedicated exclusively to professional laser show production having started in 1998 in Manila and re-formed in 2001. To date, Argon Animation, Inc. has produced more than 400 shows.
Its president, Tim Bennett, who will be arriving in Bacolod to direct the two-day laser shows, has worked all over the world including Expo '92 in Sevilla, Spain; IDEX '93 in Abu Dhabi; installations for the Sultan of Brunei's theme park in Jerudong. He was also the project director for the water screen shows at the Expo Pilipino project in Pampanga, and the New Year’s Eve waterscreen and laser show at the Fort Bonifacio Millennium celebrations at Taguig, Manila.
The laser show will surely be a breathtaking family moment as soon as the mall dims and the laser burst out while it synchronizes perfectly with the music. More than a wonderful ride, it is an experience.
This show is also brought to us by Novellino, Cebu Pacific, L'Fisher Hotel, Universal Robina Corporation and Johnsons & Johnsons.
Fun games and exciting prizes will also be given during the show

Indeed, if both Convergys and Teleperformance locate in Bacolod, they must have have seen something here that made them decide to locate. Just that fact alone raises my hopes and dreams for my hometown. I have stayed outside of Bacolod most years of my life and though i have seen developments here and there, i also see grinding poverty on the other side of the same coin.
These past 3 years though, the pace of development has picked up. And it is nice to see a lot of people who are either employed or productive. The local political leadership must be doing something right. Make no mistake, i am not an apologist for the mayor, he he.

Bacolod inquiring about cyber corridor status (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/July/30/businessnews2.htm)
A resolution inquiring from the President the status of the move for the inclusion of Bacolod City and the Western Visayas region under the coverage of "cyberservices corridor project" was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod recently.
The resolution, coursed through the Office of the Executive Secretary and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, is inquiring about the status of Bacolod and Western Visayas under the project especially in the efforts to improve the educational system and increase the human resource capital for the ICT sector in Western Visayas.
It said the CyberServices Corridor project is an ICT channel running over 600 miles across the country, from Baguio City in north and Zamboanga down south of the archipelago.
The resolution said the CyberServices Corridor is the brainchild of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and that from the onset of her Presidency, the ICT and ICT-enabled business and industries have increasingly grown and supported the growth of other sectors in the economy. The resolution also said that because of the increasing demand for knowledge workers, the CICT affirmed the need to increase the capability and capacity of the education system.
The Cyber Corridor will also focus on the implementation of the National Distance Learning Program to be implemented by the DepEd, and Training for Work Scholarship Project implemented by TESDA, to be able to produce graduates for the knowledge economy, it said.
The resolution was proposed by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and amended by Councilors Dindo Ramos and Alex Paglumotan.*CGS

peepz pls take those pictures of SSS building, Hall of Justice, Unitop building, and the Gaisano Main. Gaisano Main is now a new painted, parang mall. a 5-storey Dept Store.
The one being demolished near the LCC Architecture is privately owned... if im not mistaken it is being owned by seabreeze hotel as what ive heard... most houses there may land title na... amo na di madali dali pahalin kay iya na ka NHA.... Cguro in the near future matabo gid na sa padayun nga pag usyag sang bacolod..either baydan nila ang mga lote.
