Precisely...The next Busy district of Bacolod is on the east side. :0 look at how the area will grow in just a short span of time after the completion of Government Center. :) or maybe, Ayala will keep an eye on the location of the old airport. hehehehe....

according to Sugarbowl_Fairy the Ayala group eyeing the area of old Bacolod-Murcia Sugar central to put up their mall same as with of Araneta Group somewhere in East side of Bacolod...and the old bacolod airport is for Ethon group of Lucio Tan...hopefully the Bacolod public cemetery is will be going to demolish for the preparation of the booming east complex, for the street strips like to Lacson and Araneta streets

^^thank you for the updates at BoyNegros,,,hopefully the starbucks will build their own stand-alone store...at Boy do you have a latest updates about the Metro Dome strip? what stores are already having a reservation there? hows the % completion of the construction same as with of Planta Hotel and Residences???

a friend of mine open a store there at metrodome, its a joint venture business with his GF from china. chinese man sila duwa. so damu man kuno ma open didto may restaurant na gani kag I think High End RTW na store, mahal kaayo, gap, abercrombie, etc.

Silay to set up
Yuletide village

The Silay City public plaza will be converted into a Christmas Village this Yuletide season to attract pilgrims and tourists, a press release from Silay said.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said a Nativity scene with 20 life-size characters and a giant Christmas tree will be installed in the middle of the plaza.

All schools in Silay will compete in the making of life-size angels while the 16 barangays will join in shepherds and animal-making contest, the press release said.

Visual artists in Negros Occidental are also invited to participate in the Three Kings molding contest.

The Christmas Village starts on December 6 and it will feature songs and dances from Silay, assorted lanterns, hometown delicacies and handicrafts.

Escalante bags tour guiding plum

ESCALANTE CITY – Escalante City’s Janella Yuen Sagal won 1st place in the Tour Guiding Competition during the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly (WVTA) Nov. 15 at SM City Event Centre in Bacolod City.

Sagal is a fourth year student of the Escalante National High School. Her coach is her teacher April Roa P. Bersales.

Sagal was chosen to represent the Negros Occidental to the WVTA after winning the Tour Guiding Contest during the Tourism Week Celebration last Sept. 19.
Other Escalante bets were Malou Guillen, who placed second in the Tourism Quiz Bee, and Miracle Abatayo, a finalist in the Tourism Poster-Making Contest.

The event showcased and promoted the diversity of the tourism attractions, services and facilities of this city strongly supported and encouraged by Mayor Melecio J. Yap, Jr. (MFS)

I don't know but I find MetroDome if Araneta quite similar to Sorrento of Lacson in terms of design, thats just my opinion though.

Bacolod City -- Why did the chicken cross the street?

Certainly not to be roasted, not yet anyway, but to seek perhaps its own arena and fight the way of the ancient gladiators-- as good bred cocks are meant to be. And even as this is frowned upon by some, its association with Filipino culture has given the gamefowl industry an anchor to assert itself as a legitimate industry. Thus, from its pre-Spanish beginnings, this "other chicken industry" had now grown beyond the backyard into a fully developed multi-billion peso business.

Based on quarantine records of the Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental, about 140,000 heads of gamefowl are being shipped out of the province annually. At an average price of P4,000 per head, that's about P558 million or half a billion pesos worth of this chicken crossing the Visayan seas to be bred or pitted elsewhere. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

This figure would balloon many times more if we count in the other gamefowl bred and sold in other provinces as well as the value of collateral businesses. This includes the smallest supplier of gaffs and knives, feeding cups, scratch pen, and cords to the biggest manufacturer of agro-veterinary products, both local and multi-national companies. Industry insiders estimate that at any given time, the country has about 10 million stags being conditioned to fight or ready for breeding.

Special kids making strides

SPECIAL children are now mainstreaming into the regular school system and in the community through the modified special curriculum of the SPED Center in Bacolod City.
Five visually impaired and nine hearing impaired graduates of the center are now working as teachers in Bacolod, Binalbagan, Talisay City, Bago City and Palawan.

Seven hearing impaired alumni are working as masseur or masseuse, two are accounting clerks and seven others are food crews in a department store and mall in the city.

They are only a few untold success stories of children with special needs (CSN's) who fulfilled their dreams in life through special education.

Two hundred ninety special children are now studying at the SPED Center in Bacolod City. The center provides inclusive education for CSNs who can be mainstreamed in regular schools. It conducts self contained classes for differently abled children like the hearing impaired, visually impaired, mentally challenged, children with autism and multi handicapped (autistic-deaf, autistic-blind, deaf-blind, etc.)

The center provides transportation allowance, uniforms, school supplies and medicines to Indigent and malnourished pupils. It also offers free sign language class to parents and any interested persons in the community. For special kids who can't tackle to go to school, the center provides community based education services.

This school year the center has fully mainstreamed seven high functional autistic, two mild hearing impaired, three mild hearing impaired, 3 mild mentally challenged and twelve visually impaired at Rizal Elementary School. An autistic pupil mainstreamed at Christian Academy of Bacolod was accelerated and graduated with honors last school year.

"Our biggest difficulty here is when a child is multi-handicapped, because our teachers need to exert more effort to teach them", says Ms. Carmen Salazar, principal of SPED Bacolod. "Right now we have eight multi-handicapped pupils, autistic-deaf, autistic-blind, mentally handicapped-deaf, and cerebral palsy-deaf".

She considers her job very challenging and fulfilling because when special children enter the center they don't know how to read, talk and write. "It's rewarding when these children already learn and develop the skills to fully express themselves".

Asked about the growing demand of SPED teachers abroad, Ms. Salazar considers it disappointing because before they find it hard to look for volunteer teachers now many are interested to teach special children because they want to work abroad and earn dollars". "The noble aspect of the job is no longer there".

With the outstanding accomplishments and exemplary performance of pupils and graduates of the center, it is now nominated in the 2007 Search for Outstanding SPED Center in the Philippines.

ICT Workshop UNites 3 Sectors

Bacolod - Negros Occidental Education Foundation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT) has anchored the ICT Conference and Preparatory Workshop in November 15-16 at Grand Regal Hotel, Bacolod City.

Three sectors have gathered for the workshop: government, business, and talent development. The government includes local government units, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and other allied agencies. Business sector includes real estate developers, Hotel/restaurants, infrastructures, and telecommunication. The talent developers are academe, call centers, and IT providers.

Involved in the workshop convened by Counc. Jocelle
Batapa-Sigue were the Commission on Information and Community Technology (CICT), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Technology and Educational Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Information Technology Schools, Network of Negros Occidental (ITS.NET), and Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDFIT).

Sigue has projected the IT status in the country. The Dagupan and Urdaneta IT hubs have no road map. Negros Occidental has 3 industrial ecozones: San Carlos City but no road map, Pulupandan accredited by PEZA but no locator, and Sagay City in North Negros for medium industries only. Now Bacolod has 11 IT parks and buildings accredited by PEZA.

"If we succeed in the ICT sector, there is no reason Bacolod will not succeed in other areas.

Provincial Board Member Patrick Lacson, workshop participant, lauded the efforts of Bacolod for soaring in ICT development. Negros Occidental focuses on manpower by education.

Bonifacio Belen, Executive Director, CEDF-IT said the whole province of Cebu is now an ecozone for ICT with more than 23,000 ICTs.

Cong. Angara challenge the ICT workshop participants to gather axe together. ICT is not only a call center. It is particularly providing employment. As of this date, there are over 10,000 employed in ICT.

In Bacolod alone, there are 4,000 people provided with employment by ICT network.

The workshop has served as venue of linking together the government, academe and business sectors who have identified their strength and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats in the industry.*

The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) with the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) is gearing up to capture ten percent of the world's outsourcing market equivalent to $13 billion revenues and one million employment by 2010 through public-private sector initiatives, CICT Commissioner Monchito Ibrahim told the delegates last Thursday. Ibrahim challenged Bacolod and Negros Occidental to enhance talent development, expand the geographical spread of the country's outsourcing capabilities and further improve the business environment for investors. As a first step, CICT calls on the stakeholders to jointly answer the metrics for the Philippine Roadmap 2010, a comprehensive study of the Philippine outsourcing industry which details the aspirations of the Philippine BPO industry and the initiatives needed in order to achieve these goals.

All the ICT delegates agreed to work for Bacolod-Negros Occidental Foundation for ICT (BNEFIT) in order to sustain the gains of the ICT sector, increase to 20 percent or more the hiring rate and expand the ICT activities from call centers to software development, medical and legal transcription, IT engineering and other ICT strains.

The Philippines was awarded as 2007 Most Preferred Country Location for Outsourcing by the National Outsourcing Association of UK last October, as it clinches the spot of having the third largest market share with $3.3B total revenue for 2006 or 1.4 percent of the market, and already second to India in the call center industry.*

Rep. Genaro Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6 th district) yesterday said the construction of the 23-kilometer road from Hinobaan proper to Barangay Sangke will continue even if the World Bank has put on hold a $232 million soft loan for Philippine roads because of alleged bid rigging.

Jim Adams, World Bank vice president for East Asia and the Pacific Region, was quoted by reports from Manila as saying that signs of procurement problems in the first phase of the loan program cropped up starting 2003.

He cited strong signs of collusion and excessive pricing.

Phase 1 of the National Roads Improvement and Management Program implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways was originally aimed to upgrade about 530 kilometers of national roads, including the Hinobaa-Basay section of Kabankalan-Basay road in Negros Occidental and Oriental.

Alvarez said that in 2004 the World Bank had rejected a loan for the 25 kilometer Hinobaan-Basay section because of alleged collusion in the bidding won by the firm China roads.

The bidding was done at the DPWH central office in Manila , he said.

As a result his son, Genaro Rafael Alvarez, who was the congressman at the time, sought purely Philippine funding for the 23 kilometers Hinobaan road section.

He got the Philippine funding with the help of the President and DPWH, Alvarez said.

Currently being constructed is 6 kilometers of the Hinobaan road worth P125 million as the road had to be elevated, District Engineer Viola Italia said.

The second phase involving P115 million has not been bidded yet, Alvarez said.

Alvarez, who took over as congressman of the sixth district from his son when he won in the May elections, said work on the Hinobaan road will continue with Philippine funds despite the WB findings.*CPG

Yup,the city must explore more opportunities and possible investments in BPO(IT Sector).At the moment any kind of descent work aside from BPO's is very much welcome to lessen the percentage of the unemployed in the Bacolod and Negros Occidental.:)

An hour of heartwarming music featuring Leonor Kialyko, world renowned pianist and an alumna of St. Scholastica's College – Manila, will be held today, at the Sr. Irmengardis Kuhn Hall, HFHS-B Grounds, in Sum-ag, Bacolod City, event organizers said.

The concert will start at 10 a.m.

The Holy Family Academy has been in existence for the last 40 years, and is brainchild of St. Scholastica's Academy in Bacolod and former Scholastica alumnae headed by the late Nieves Gaston-Lopez, its first chairman.

It was a project which was first funded by the German government.

Kilayko gave a benefit concert at the turn of the century with no less than His Excellency German Ambassador and Mme. Jess as guest of honor, the press release added.*
