I've heard of this before regarding the bangka that travels hinigaran - iloilo.. coz i have some relatives there in hinigaran which they told me that there is that kind of service in that area. in fact, the contact persons family name is familiar to me.. maybe a distant relative perhaps.. hehe.. pero indi mn ko taga hinigaran, so not much of an idea there.. pero gud option na tuod sa mga adventurers who are from iloilo going to the south of negros...

Actually, ang two "plexes" gid Smile. I remember the days na Cineplex looked very classy and neat. Daw ka huge pa na structure ang Cineplex during those days. Dira pa na gani sang una ang SM Supermarket. But look at it now.. :ohno: Now its Centroplex turn. A very nice entertaiment complex complete with shops and a supermarket. Its also the first cinema in Bacolod to introduce the "reserved seat" style of cinema viewing. The cinema tech they used is also really good. But again, looked at it now... The two structures are really not that bad, but it could offer more than what its now. If only properly managed and maintained.:)

Honestly, i go to starbucks not because of the stuffs they offer. In particular, their coffee is not that enticing compared to the other coffee shops in the metro or even abroad. Its the ambience of these coffee shops that makes it tick to the peeps who can/want to spare an extra cash for a cup of coffee. Its not only starbucks. Also seattles best, max brenner, figaro, coffee bean, gloria jeans, Bobs, Bo's, Kuppa, etc etc.. and the long list keeps on coming .. and coming. Maybe this is what we call 21st century camaraderie. Sit, relax and savour your coffee and coffee concoction favorites.:)

its all about experience sugarboy...how can one differentiate the taste of each coffee blend if one doesnt want to try it...and each one may have its own taste...for you starbucks may not taste that good for others its the best.

Yup...you noticed that people who stay inside a Starbucks store do not usually consume loads of what they offer...they're there to be seen...order a small size coffee and stay long...that's what you call the "Starbucks Syndrome"...

Starbucks not only sells coffee it sells the experience... that's why all the texture of good brand ay sa Starbucks na...before you enter...store design pa lang...once you enter you'll be greeted by the aroma and greetings by their baristas...and the coffee...wow!

Van...have you tasted the Caffe Mauro brand? IMO SB doesn't hold a candle vs this fine Italian brand...labi na gid ang ila Deluxe blend...hehehe

One thing about it kay wala nila gina short cut. SB nowadays, especially sa US, gina amat-amat na nila automate ang ila espresso machines, which, IMO takes away the tradition of coffee prepared the barista way.....

wala man gid. i'm not that heavy a coffee drinker. pero the few times i drink coffee, i can immediately grade the coffee as per my standards. of course, as you have mentioned, taste varies per person.

Road projects in Bacolod won't be affected by WB's decision

BACOLOD City Representative Monico Puentevella assured Tuesday Bacolenos that the road construction and rehabilitation in the city will continue despite reports that World Bank has withheld a total of $265 million in two phases of a loan program intended to finance road constructions in the country.

WB rejected two road contracts totaling $33 million between 2003 and 2006 owing to strong signs of collusion and excessive pricing.

The $33 million represents the balance of the first phase of the loan for the National Road Improvement and Management Program (NRIMP).

The second phase, worth $232 million, is also suspended pending compliance with the new set of the World Bank's requirements in phase 1.

The roads would have been constructed under the NRIMP of the present administration and said to be the "main tool for modernizing the country's road management."

Puentevella said that there is no problem with the implementation of the road improvement projects in the Lone District of Bacolod since its program is not under World Bank.

The World Bank, on the other hand, acknowledged the first phase of the program (2000 to 2007), where the Arroyo administration made major progress toward putting in place a modern, transparent and accountable national road management system.

Some 90 percent of the project goals were achieved: 382 kilometers of roads were built or upgraded in provinces across the country, and an additional 975 kilometers of existing roads resurfaced and maintained.

Posts: 264 CADP to build P1.4-B ethanol fuel plant

Central Azucarera Don Pedro Corp. (CADP), Philippines’ largest sugar conglomerate, is putting up a P1.4 billion ethanol plant in Negros Occidental targetted to start commercial production by late 2009.
The company is taking advantage of the definite market for ethanol in light of the Biofuels Act that mandated a five percent blend of fuel ethanol with gasoline by 2009.

This will create a significant ethanol demand of 200 million liters for which CADP can become a pioneer in production, according to CADP executive chairman Pedro E. Roxas in a press briefing.

This fuel ethanol demand will further go up to 400 million liters when mandated biofuel blend will have increased to 10 percent by 2011.

Asuncion S. Aguilar, CADP senior vice president, said the company is now negotiating with lenders for the financing of the ethanol plant through a syndicate. This may involve Banco de Oro or Land Bank of the Philippines which has a window for biofuel investments.

The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 liters per day or 30 million liters yearly. Since the company will use molasses as feedstock to the fuel plant, the company does not see any conflict of the operations with food security concerns of the government (which may only occur when ethanol feedstock will come direct from sugarcane juice designated for sugar production).

Molasses is the thick syrup which is a by-product of refining sugar from the brown raw sugar. At present, available molasses from its refinery plant is being sold by CADP to beverage companies or distilleries. Molasses can also be exported. But turning this into fuel ethanol will create added value and profitability from the by-product.

"Our intention is not to use it just as a commodity. As we expand, we’ll create more molasses. Then that will open up resources for expanding the business," said CADP President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon A. Picornell Jr.

Now that peso is appreciating against the dollar, Roxas said CADP may have the advantage of being able to import equipment for its expansion programs at cheaper costs. He expressed concern, though, that the stronger peso is also is making the differential between the peso and the dollar wider.

"That’s why there’s an opportunity for the backdoor entry of smuggled suger," he said.

The CADP Group wits its milling plant in Nasugbu, Batangas together with those in Negros occidental (Central Azucarera La Carlota and Hawaiian Philippines) make up the biggest sugar producer in the country accounting for 19 percent of the country’s sugar production as of 2006-2007.
CADP is now in talks with oil companies for the supply of its biofuel for which the company may not really find difficulty negotiating as part of this market is already importing fuel ethanol from other producers like Brazil.

The company has also started looking for equipment abroad to allow for longer ordering lead time. The company is eyeing a 70 percent debt financing for the program as against a 30 percent equity.

Despite this borrowing, Aguilar explained that the company continues to be "quite under-leveraged" considering that it only has a debt to equity ratio of 0.48 even if under its covenant, it can have a debt to equity ratio of 2.5.

Tour of Negros set

The 35 th Annual Cultural Tour of Negros Occidental will be held December 1, 8 and 15 this year, a press release from event organizer and tour guide Ramon Hofileña said.

The itinerary of the tour which starts 9 a.m. and ends 5:30 p.m. includes the Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation in Bacolod City; Bernardino Jalandoni House, Hofileña Heritage House and its art collection and printmaking workshop, and trip to outstanding delicacy sources in Silay City; Church of St. Joseph the Worker – Victorias City; Chapel of the Cartwheels – Manapla town; and an introduction to a new tourist attraction.

To be explained to participants on board the bus are the San Sebastian Cathedral, Palacio Episcopal, Capitol building and park of Negros Occidental, and Kilometer 0 - Bacolod; Hda. Matab-ang monument and enchanted trees – Talisay City; ancestral houses, San Diego Church, Cinco de Noviembre marker, and cultural center – Silay; Heroes of Guintabuan monument – E.B. Magalona town; and iron dinosaurs and Victorias Milling Co. – Victorias, the press release said.

Also included in tour discussions are the Philippines' most internationally-known mural, first examples of Filipinism in liturgical art, works by Jose Rizal and the national artists, the country's first cultural center, world's smallest dolls, Negros island's oldest antique, and brief talks on pre-Magellanic Philippine architecture, conservation farming, and folk arts, among others.

Each tour is limited to 43 participants, on a first come-first served basis.

For now they are focusing on to acquiring new equipments for their diagnostic tools and expanding their satelite clinics. Since that they are no longer for sale they'll just have to keep on improving their services.

The new ward of Riverside Med Center: in each room has 4 beds with 4 cable tv in each bed with headfone so that other patient will not be disturbed, totally secured curtain (you cannot able to peep), 2 minor surgery room in emergency dept, another separate room for pediatric patient in emergency dept..etc ect.

Our achievements so far this year according to Dr. Dave Gamboa (Head of Advanced Life Support System Of RMC) we are overall NUMBER 3 NATIONWIDE IN TERMS OF EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, WE ARE ONLY ONE OF THE FEW HOSPITALS IN THE PHILLIPINES THAT PRACTICES TRIAGE SUPPORT SYSTEM IN EMERGENCY CARE. THIS SYSTEM IS DERIVED PREDOMINANTLY IN THE UNITED STATES on how a certain hospital is prepared when it comes to disaster...

For now they are focusing on to acquiring new equipments for their diagnostic tools and expanding their satelite clinics. Since that they are no longer for sale they'll just have to keep on improving their services.

The new ward of Riverside Med Center: in each room has 4 beds with 4 cable tv in each bed with headfone so that other patient will not be disturbed, totally secured curtain (you cannot able to peep), 2 minor surgery room in emergency dept, another separate room for pediatric patient in emergency dept..etc ect.

Our achievements so far this year according to Dr. Dave Gamboa (Head of Advanced Life Support System Of RMC) we are overall NUMBER 3 NATIONWIDE IN TERMS OF EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, WE ARE ONLY ONE OF THE FEW HOSPITALS IN THE PHILLIPINES THAT PRACTICES TRIAD SUPPORT SYSTEM IN EMERGENCY CARE. THIS SYSTEM IS DERIVED PREDOMINANTLY IN THE UNITED STATES on how a certain hospital is prepared when it comes to disaster...

Once the old airport is closed i believe it is very possible.Lets wait further more for the opening of the Ethanol Plants around Negros Occidental which will create a big impact to the local economy of Bacolod and hopefully BPO's wil continue to rise after 5 years.Bacolod may continue to enjoy the uptrend in development and will become more progressive as ever.Let me also add the contribution of Industrial Zones that will be established by LGU which will greatly reduce the unemployment rate of the city and the province.

I hope the economic benefits of ecozones, tourism, BPO's and ethanol industrial plants/outputs be more beneficial to the vast majority and not just the same "old rich Negrense" eating most of the pies.:)
