:wave::wave:Hey Guys! Grabe new thread na naman.I'll save my pics na lang and post it later. We went to Gerry's Grill last night and a tea session near L'fisher.
There's so many people around.Very busy gid ang Lacson.Hard to find a parking slot. Most of the resto's are almost filled with customers especially Gerry's Grill we had a 15 minutes wait for our turn.kanami gis sang ambiance.
And disagree gid ko sang gincomment sang isa ka SSC forumer from Davao about the dimlighting sa near Metrodome kay we went there also last night.Very alive gid ang Bacolod especially at night.
Earlier we went to SM City Bacolod and it's really very beautiful.Kanami gid sang ambiance and i'm here now in Robs.My goodness kadamo gid changes.
Basi madugayan naman ko balik. Thanks gid sa mga a pics mo Migs Suv and Boynegros.Busy gid sa pamilya gatherings.Keep up the good work Bacolenos!

I think they just decided to join the twin towers so that it will be one bigger tower instead of two tiny twin towers that looks too small and doesn't make much economic sense. Connecting both buildings makes more sense economically since it will maximize the use of the columns and because the building is not wide enough to cause lighting and ventilation problems. The building should be even stronger now with a bigger mass, so long as they used Piles on the foundation.

Bacolod: P120M port soon to rise in Bacolod (9:04 a.m.)
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
THAILAND --- A P120-million modular port will soon rise in Bacolod City, said Bacolod City Representative Monico Puentevella in Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) here Sunday.
Puentevella said the Spanish Government through the Bank of Madrid has finally approved the 800 million euro funding to construct a total 70 modular ports in various parts of the country, as part of the commitment of the King and Queen of Spain to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, during the latter's visit there last week.
Puentevella, who was with President Arroyo's entourage in Spain, was here Sunday to inspect Filipino athletes' condition being the country's Chef de Mission for this year's 24th Southeast Asian Games.
He said he already had an initial talk with Joey Salceda, presidential adviser for special projects, that of the 70 modular ports to be constructed in the country, one of them will be built in Bacolod.
"That's already final and I am just studying where to put this modular port. But I have already in mind of putting it either at the old Bacolod airport in Singcang area or in Barangay Sum-ag," the Bacolod lawmaker said.
Puentevella, however, is not yet sure of the total area to be utilized for the said port project.

Question: If I'm not mistaken, it's still in Pulupandan where the main office of PPA (Phil Ports Authority) for Negros Occidental is located right?
Actually, since Bacolod has no natural harbour, it has to create an artifical harbour like those of Los Angeles to protect the ships and especially the LCTs and fastcrafts from waves coming in from Guimaras Strait. Also it has to be quite far from the mainland to provide deeper access to bigger ships (that is why Banago Port is very far from the mainland). A breakwater perhaps would do the trick.

no idea. :dunno: yup, any workaround will do as long as it can accomodate larger ships. trading will then be much easier and faster... :)
does supercat still have bacolod-iloilo trips?

^^ Wala na. Phil Fast Ferries suspended their operations several years ago. Its only OceanJet, Weesam Express & SeaJet plies the fastcraft route of Iloilo and Bacolod. The rest is done by RoRo (LCTs like Montenegro and Jomalia in Dumangas, Iloilo)

^^Anyway, just fire me a PM when are you planning to get here in Iloilo.
The one who replaced Supercat's terminal in BREDCO is OceanJet. Sa diin ka subong? :)
OceanJet is quite affordable as compared to Weesam (although leg space is a problem sometimes). SeaJet on the other hand replaced Bullet Express' terminal in both Muelle Loney and BREDCO.

^^ What is BREDCO by the way? Is it a private arrastre or the authorizaty in the port in Bacolod? Like I've heard some issues before regarding the wharf's privatization.
The office of PPA is the first structure other than terminals, that you'll ecnounter in the port right? Pero nakabutang didto Pulupandan PMO something like that.
If I'm not mistaken, Pulupandan was one of the first ports in Negros Occidental to be constructed in order to have direct export of sugar from the centrals to the ocean-going ships rather than transhipping them to Iloilo before.

actually i dont have any idea. The debate about port take over is still on its second reading. they cant finalize yet as to when its going to be handed to the City Government. Right now it is still a private owned property with most of its shares are owned by Atty. Palanca.

thats right Bo B. connecting both building will surely make it a lot stable. but i just hope they will keep the design since it looks modern compared to the Hotel they built which is so plain.

Puentevella, however, is not yet sure of the total area to be utilized for the said port project.

thats right Bo B. connecting both building will surely make it a lot stable. but i just hope they will keep the design since it looks modern compared to the Hotel they built which is so plain.
They could use Reflective Glass at the middle so that it will still look a bit like twin towers, thus keeping with the original design.
Does anyone have the rendering of the Riverwalk Condominiums at Goldenfields?

I am definitely looking forward to getting home first week of O-Eight. Too bad the airport is not yet open at that time. I am amazed at all the developments going on in Bacolod. It would be great to be able to meet you guys on the 5th or 6th of January to discuss what more we could do for our island, cities and our people. We need to organize and have some sort of agreement so as to avoid any problems here and to be more effective at promoting our island.

SWEEP online quiz starts
The nationwide 4th Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program or SWEEP Innovation and Excellence Awards will be held today at the Bulacan State University with 21 schools in Luzon participating, a press release from organizers said.
The roadshow online quiz is also set at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City Thursday with nine schools in the Visayas; and eight schools in Mindanao joining, to be held at the Holy Cross College Foundation in Davao City on December 17.
Contestants will go through three rounds of basic engineering questions, with the winner getting a medal and a mobile phone. The quiz is patterned after a Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company system that powers the PLDT Broadband Quiz, an ongoing initiative under its InfoTeach Outreach Program, the press release said.
It also said activities set next year will include the “PalaECEpan”, a competition among students, with a grand prize of P40,000, a trophy, and a cellular phone at stake. Winners in the semifinals will each get a trophy, a cellular phone and certificate of participation.
Participating schools will also receive cash prizes, the press release added.*

Puentevella, however, is not yet sure of the total area to be utilized for the said port project.

continuation for a full story....
"But I am sure that this project will push through and this will not compete, of course, against Bredco, Pulupandan, and Banago ports. Instead it will complement with these three existing ports for a better and enhanced port services in Bacolod and Negros Occidental as well," he stressed, adding that he will present all the plans and other details of the project in a press conference in Bacolod soon.
Renewable energy
Meanwhile, aside from port projects, Puentevella said the Spanish Government is also looking for huge areas in the country especially in Negros for jathropa-cassava-ethanol venture.
"The Spanish Government is really interested to invest in the country for a renewable energy production," the solon said.
Flyover
Puentevella, on the other hand, said he won't push through anymore the flyover project with that of the British contractor as initially planned to be put up at the intersection of Lacson and Burgos streets.
He said people from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were reportedly disgusted with that in Iloilo City, also with the same contractor, which until now, has not yet completed.
Though, he disclosed that he's now negotiating with the French contractor to do same project in Bacolod.

Wow, more more ang media sa ila nga mga words. :ohno: They weren't disgusted by the project, they simply have a headache with the DPWH and its a national concern. Tsk tsk, where is their thesaurus? Where is their ethics? Hayay, some of our local media people are not careful with what they're writing or posting. And to think of it, Mabey and Johnosn have similar projects in Pampanga and Bulacan, preceeding that of Iloilo.

Negrense strongman triumphs
He fell short of his target but Negrense strongman Arniel Ferrera once again proved the Southeast Asian Games hammer throw event remains his exclusive domain.
The 26-year-old from Manuling, Cauayan overpowered the field for the a third straight gold medal Saturday at the His Majesty the King 80 th Anniversary Stadium and Nakhon Ratchasima , Thailand and also surpassed the SEA Games record he set in Manila in 2005.
But Ferrera felt no absolute satisfaction with his new record of 60.93 meters, which erased the old mark of 60.47m.
“My target was to breach the 63-meter mark,” the enlisted Air Force said in a text message to the DAILY STAR Saturday night.
Nevertheless, Ferrera said he is elated with his newest achievement, which he dedicated to his parents, Jenny and Fortunato and siblings, Jona, Sheila May, Kenneth Grace. Christelle Jane and John Albert and fiancé May Golveo, who support him in his athletic career.
An alumnus of Man-uling Elementary School , Saint Columban's Academy and Binalbagan Catholic College , Ferrera, whose athletic prowess was discovered by late Columban priest Colum O' Halpin, started training for hammer throw when he was 18.
Three years later, he won his first SEA Games gold medal in Hanoi, Vietnam, before following it up with that record-smashing feat in the Manila Games.
Ferrera admits this year's triumph did not come easy since he was not able to fully concentrate on training because of his duties with the Air Force.
In the buildup to the SEA Games, Ferrera trained for five hours five days a week in Baguio City for six months, joined the Hongkong Inter-City Meet and topped the Thailand Open in October.
He, however, lamented the late arrival of training equipment, especially his throwing shoes, which he said is not available in the Philippines.
Ferrera said he hopes his SEA Games victory will draw support for his plan to train in Europe next year.
“There's a great chance I will improve faster if I train in Europe ,” he added. *CPT

This is the antique Paglaum sprots complex. After the completion of Panaad Sports Complex, this structure was already been neglected. But anyhow, theres still 'paglaum' that the City will do something to bring out its beauty once more :)
but it has already a venue for football games during the 2005 seagames and hosted by bacolod city...i think it is currently an under renovation then they change it into Bacolod Stadium

Queenbank opens
Mandalagan branch
The Florete-led Queen City Development Bank opened its second branch in Bacolod City in Mandalagan last Friday as part of its five-year strategic plan of expanding its branch network, a press release from the bank said.
The Queenbank Mandalagan branch, located at the ground floor of Bombo Radyo, CBS Development Corp. Building, Lacson Street, is headed by Ismael Saballa as branch officer-in-charge while its San Juan branch, by manager Jovi Linga.
Both branches offer deposit products, loans, ATM and other corporate services.
Queenbank is also set to open early next year its second branch in Pangasinan located at the Sana Building , MacArthur Highway in Urdaneta City . On the drawing board is a Metro Manila branch, the press release said.
CASH DIVIDENDS
Meanwhile last Nov. 16, Queenbank released P14.3 million in cash dividends to all its shareholders June 30, 2007 upon the approval of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the press release said.
It also continued to post strong growth figures during the first 10 months of the year due to the strong public acceptance of the bank's deposit and loan products and the robust demand from the small and medium entrepreneurs.
Compared to last year's levels, deposits grew by 15.02 percent from P451 million to P519.8 million; total resources improved by 14.81 percent from P1.071 billion to P1,230 billion; gross revenues and net income expanded by 7.62 percent and 9.41 percent, respectively, while loans and inter-bank loan receivables totaled to P986 million
according to my classmate who worked in this bank, nag double ila income since 3 years ago, the management decided to open another branch, they will expect one more branch to open. da money already overflow sa bank vault. joke lang na.

Meg theres a lot of modern building in Libertad, all the way to Libertand extension, and going to Dona Juliana and to the Mansilingan. lots of modern new structures. last year 2006 they still under construction, tapos na subong nga 2007, they dont restore old structure sa Libertad, kay naga guba ang beauty sang siudad. thats according to my councilor nga friend.:banana: and its no longer an earthquake standard and its firehazard.:ohno::ohno::nuts:

According to him, its expensive to maintain the old structres, thats why most of the old building the owner never renewed their permits, and most of them they dont want to maintained. so thats the reason why the modern structure are everywhere in the corner.

Convergys now hiring for Bacolod team (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/December/07/businessnews1.htm)
Convergys, a global leader in business process outsourcing, launched its recruitment campaign in Bacolod City on December 5 and hundreds of applicants came to its temporary recruitment site at the Circle Inn, a press release from the company said.
Positions available are for customer service and technical support. The comprehensive recruitment process takes a single day to complete. Applicant Tony Miranda said Convergys provides a great opportunity for every Bacoleño. There is no reason for us now to migrate to Manila or Cebu and apply for the world's largest BPO companies, he said in the press release.
Another applicant Lee George Tionko, a chemical engineer, said he welcomes Convergys entry to Bacolod because of its reputation as a company where an employee can build his or her future. Convergys, which has been operating in the Philippines since 2004, employs over 11,000 Filipino workers nationwide. It is scheduled to start its Bacolod operations early next year.
Those who wish to apply may visit the recruitment site at Circle Inn in Lopez Jaena-Malaspina St. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. Applicants are required to bring two copies of their updated resumé.*
FYI, ang tech support nila ISP na sya, dako2x gid sweldo, 25k ang signing bonus...aw!

Bacolod to hold
Fireworks Festival
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
The first Bacolod Fireworks Festival will be held on Dec. 15 and 22 at the SM grounds in Bacolod City .
The activity is a joint project of the city government with SM-Bacolod, Convergys and ABS CBN.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said the project will be participated by contestants coming from Manila , Dumaguete and Bacolod .
The fireworks competition will start at 9 p.m. and three contestants will perform on Dec. 15 and another three on Dec. 22, while the foodfest will start at 6 p.m.
Because of the event, the city has to transfer the area for vendors engaged in the retail sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics back to the BAYS Center , he added.
The first prize winner will receive P70,000; second prize, P50,000; and third prize, P30,000.
The activity organized by Out of the Box Unlimited will be participated on Dec. 15 by Spectra-Bacolod, and Lee Fireworks and Nippon Fireworks, both from Manila, and on Dec. 22 by Peacock Fireworks-Bacolod, DSS Fireworks-Dumaguete and Pyro Heaven- Manila .
The SM City Bacolod Pyro Magic 2007 is a free festival of family entertainment that includes live musical performances, a BMX exhibition, cuisine from local restaurants and special activities, a press release from the organizers said.
The mall will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight , and a VIP area will be provided for early comers to park their cars and enjoy the show in the comfort of their vehicles, the press release also said.
Leonardia said he intends to meet with the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center and the Federation of Bacolod Drivers Association this week to request them to give special fares for the people of Alangilan, Granada, Handumanan, Vista Alegre, Felisa and other far flung barangays to encourage them to witness the fireworks festival.
Leonardia said they want to make the fireworks festival a regular activity in Bacolod City in addition to the MassKara and BacoLaodiat festivals. “For us, this is a start. We eventually want this to be a part of the regular calendar of Bacolod City ,” he said.
In Manila , there is the International Fireworks Festival so here in Bacolod , they want a similar activity, he said.
Leonardia said he is also planning to meet with the City Tourism Council to discuss the possibility of holding an international food festival along Lacson Street.*CGS

hello sa tanan.
Fast forward! kanami gali sang slogan ni Mayor Bing no? Actually naka benepisyo man ko sang former nia na adminstration prior kay Mayor Joy. City paid employee ko sang una so nakabulig gid na indi ko magutman.
i think we filipinos have a great advantage sa call center because sa nahambal na..mas hapos man gid intindihon aton accent kesa sa mga indian pana.
They are saying the retrogression could last up to 2 years but still grabe ang demand sang nurses sa u.s.
Wala gid ko mayo bala knowledge sa economics. pero question lang ha...sounds really stupid. does more infrastructure means more progress? kahuluya na question pero gusto ko lang mabal-an kun synonymous na sila. Although i know, kay ang friend ko ga work sa starbucks, indi man na sila mag open sa indi progressive na site. Hay maan, ka bobo sakon.

Moving fast and enough to make each bacolodnons happy. Really happy in the real sense of the word. The block-type city planning is really what urban developers are looking for nowadays. Less complicated and easy to develop. And besides, Bacolod still has a lot of rooms for another wave of development. Come 2008, lets just sit back --- relax ---- take a glorious smile in these wonderful things happening in our dear Bacolod and Negros. Truly, HIS Christmas present to all of us.:):):)

Building designs are really improving a big leap in Bacolod. Complimenting the mushrooming of cool glassy structures in the city, are the big residential developments in the border of Bacolod and Talisay. Leading the local pack is Carmela devt. corp. And of course the other major players who are already in Negros(and not just on the pipeline/drawing board) like the Ayalas, Active group, Sta Lucia Realty, etc etc.

migo flarnex, i have no point gani. that's why nanguna na ko nadaan hambal na ka bobo sa akon. i was just asking an honest question for something that i don't know the answer of. Because it could also be possible that the infrastructures are just a facade right? when in fact the poverty problems are not really addressed. Like for example...we have so many malls but are the prices affordable? Who are the workers in these infrastructures? Are those unemployed people in the squatters' area being helped? Are these institutions friendly to people who would like to work and study at the same time? Do any of these companies offer scholarships or any philantrophic acts?

don't get me wrong ha. it's just that i have not been to bacolod for 3 long years and though i see all these restaurants, hotels, resorts etc sprouting, i can't help but wonder how are the working people really doing.

@putnam I do understand your sentiments, especially the question whether or not poverty is lessen with the opening up of infrastructures... partly, ang kapigaduhon is on a different side naman cguro kay ang infrastructure ga open up new jobs, and opportunities for employment, since it shows economic growth and investors confidence, but with regard sa poverty its a mutual process cguro between the government and the people as well, the government might provide work, education and other means of lessening poverty, but its up to the people to study, to look for work and also to work hard in uplifting their lives out of poverty. This is my opinion as how i see the situation not just in negros but all througout the philippines.

i agree with your opinion pare. it's really up to the people to uplift their lives. it really pisses me off seeing lots of people doing rallies on the streets saying the government neglects the poor when in fact after the rallies are over you can see them on the streets doing nothing but tambay.. :ohno::ohno:
mayo gid na kay makakita gid na sila ubra sa pag tambay...:bash:

these people doesnt have a vision in life. Pirme na lang blame sa Government. Others will just wait for graces from other people, a typical "Juan Tamad". If they will just try to cooperate and be contented with what the government has to offer, ok lang gid tani. But look at those from squatters area, whenever they will be relocated or be given a piece of land, naga reklamo pa. Others really work hard just to own a property, sila gani gina gaan na lang ga reklamo pa.
@Putnam, i think, with the emergence of call centers and other businesses here in the city somehow increased the number of people employed. And i think this is the positive result of infrastructure.
