I suggest (kung okay lng) you should have an avatar as well. any buildings here in Bacolod city will do...

Hehe, i have a picture chosen na but i can't edit it yet cause i reformatted my comp, so wala ang program :D

putnam, i agree with you. when i was a kid the pinwheel and watusi were my faves :D it's a good thing the city/government and other good people are spending to get good fireworks for bacolod. before we used to go to talisay pa to see their displays.

To the regulars of the Bacolod Thread:

Guys, I appreciate all your posts in this thread. There was a time when this thread was so sleepy. Now, thanks to you guys, you have injected the energy and much needed activity to showcase Bacolod. However, I would like to provide some input on how this thread could be enhanced plus other concerns in order to kick it off in the right direction for 2008.

I hope you can all PM me your email addresses so that these improvements could be communicated privately.

Goerge Hizon, one of the officers of Mcdonalds Philippines said that Mcdonalds Lacson is the biggest in the country, bigger compared to glorrieta and the biggest playplace in the philippines as well, but the highest earner is Mcdonald NCLEX. thats the branch which tops the list per day income of Mcdonalds.

i think its only Mcdonald Lacson got this kind of Museum

No funds for Bacolod's watershed in city's P1B budget
By Gil Alfredo B. Severino

COUNCILOR Al Victor Espino is excited over the outcome of the P1-billion budget proposed by Mayor Evelio Leonardio but clearly indicated that it has no provision for the care of the Bacolod watershed.

Espino, chairman committee on finance, explained that the city's P1 billion budget allots bigger fund support on infrastructure, road networks to ease traffic, solid waste management, among others, to prepare Bacolod's climate for investments.

"We cannot allow Iloilo to overtake us," Espino explained.

Bacolod was so alive last night...it seems like its still masskara festival :) people from other towns and cities gathered aound SM city to witness the first Pyromagic festival in Bacolod. This festival is gonna be the Next attraction in Bacolod City aside from well known festivals like Masskara and Panaad sa Negros. Indeed, Mayor Bing is really on high speed to promote tourism in Bacolod City.

Last Nights event was a Big Hit and people were talking about it. The part 2 will be on December 2, 2007 at 9PM. Again, Boy, Wildmusic and I (SUV111) will surely witness the spectacular event. Pyromagic festival is the beginning of the Next Tourism event in Bacolod's History.

The part 2 will be on the 22nd, that will also be the time they will announce the winners. :) i cant wait to see the remaining three contestants. :) I just wish next year, there will be more participating teams coming from other cities like pampangga and Cebu :)

New GK village to rise

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, GK provincial head Bobby Magalona, and International Care Ministries represented by its Board of Advisers, Malcolm Wood, broke ground yesterday for another Gawad Kalinga community in Purok Riverside, Barangay Banago, Bacolod City that will start early next year.

The project will provide permanent residence for about 100 families in the area.

Magalona, said the property was donated by Sta. Clara Subdivision to the city government during the Montelibano administration in compliance with the open space requirement. Because of the need of the times, Sta. Clara agreed to waive the area in an agreement with the city government and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board that the property will be developed into a GK community.

Magalona said this long-awaited project is a work of partnership and a work of love between the group and the different sectors, including the church. He said they are starting with the development of 1.1 hectares involving 100 families and the plan is to spread out until they can reach the whole of Purok Riverside. This will concern a total of about 500 families, he said, and the development of the site will start in January 2008.

GK is trying to give the people of Purok Riverside a jumpstart with the help of the different sectors and they believe that with this project, the residents can be already motivated to strive for something better,” Magalona said. He said this project will be a symbol of the care and the love of people for one another.

Magalona also said Convergys has committed P1 million for a Youth Training Center in GK-Purok Riverside to help make the community a showcase.

Leonardia said the area is strategically located and will serve as showcase for GK. “Maybe this is our way of catching up, so to speak. When I became mayor in 2004, I found it ironic that Bacolod City was not involved in GK when its founder was from Bacolod ,” he said, referring to Tony Meloto.

As soon as they could, he said his administration opened a new relocation site after he came into office, he said. A year after, they forged an agreement with GK to work together, he added.

“I'm glad you came and we believe we can now accelerate our housing program. With people like you I'm sure we can do things faster,” Leonardia said. He also said he hopes they could inspire others and increase participation in the GK program, he said.

Purok Riverside president Ignacio Mahinay said he is thankful to GK and others involved in the project for their concern for less privileged people like them.

Nene dela Serna, Purok Riverside assistant secretary, said she is thankful that they have been given an opportunity to own a house and lot they can have for life. She has been residing in the area for almost 10 years, she said.

Meanwhile, Banago Barangay Captain Roel Cordova said the dredger rented by the city from Sipalay started its operation in Purok Mahimulaton, Banago last week. He said it will operate eight to 10 hours when its operation goes full swing.*CGS

Why? We have business to mind here, di na lang kami tani idamay sa mga amo na nga expressions. Its an expression of insecurity in which we have to avoid or minimize. Daw katalaka sang mga amo ni nga expression bala. Were focusing on improving our local economy and infrastructures.

In the end, its not the city's pride that will benefit, it is the locals/citizens who will reap in the investments. Sa liwat, buliganay indi inaway. Malipayong Pascua sa tanan! :)

Anyway, congratulations to Bacolod for having P1Billion IRA.

@Ninja: Tani bala mas strong willed politician pa gid ang mag push sang sini na project. The Banago shoreline of Bacolod is really one magnificent location IMO. Given the right facelift, this place can even surpass the east area of Bacolod in terms of development. And capped it up with a harbour promenade and esplanade to make the area "Oh so amazing!". But of course, we must not forget the relocation area of the families affected. The relocation site should be decent enough for each and every Juan dela Cruz who'll make it as their own and earn their livelihood.:)

Province assures Panaad Stadium rehabilitation (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2007/12/18/news/province.assures.panaad.stadium.rehabilitation.html)
By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.

VICE Governor Isidro Zayco assured Monday that the Provincial Government will be providing funds for the rehabilitation of the multi-million sports facility in Bacolod City following observations that it was not be well maintained.

Zayco said the Provincial Government has already set a budget for the repair of the Paanad Stadium, particularly its rubberized track oval - which is already totally damaged.

According to Zayco, rains and bad weather have prevented the immediate repair of the stadium.

Furthermore, Zayco said they cannot gamble to fix the facilities while it rains and cause these expensive materials to be thrown away and become useless.

When the weather permits, the track oval repair will push through, he said.

The Panaad Park and Stadium is a multi-use stadium in the province.

It is currently used mostly for football matches, which was used for the 2005 SEA Games and the pre-qualifiers of the 2007 ASEAN Football Championship or ASEAN Cup.

It has a seating capacity of 15,500, but holds around 20,000 people with standing areas. It is unofficially designated as the home stadium of the Philippines' national football team.

Aside from the football field and the rubberized track oval, an Olympic-size swimming pool and other sports facilities are also present.

^^ i think it is not only the rubberized track oval that needs rehabilitation. it would be better if they fix also the asphalt roads now that Panaad sg Negros festival is fast approaching. anyway, good job to our local officials in maintaining the panaad park. :)

Why Bacolod is your destination

A Stable peace and order condition where incidence of crime is low, there is high police visibility and a crime solution of 97%.

Effective maintenance of clean and green surroundings as evidenced by a HALL OF FAME AWARD as the Cleanest and Greenest Highly Urbanized City in the Philippines.

Low percentage of illegal settlers.

Upbeat local economy and unlimited opportunities for trade and investments because the city is home to a high percentage of the Philippines' top 20 corporations;

Intensified initiatives towards agri-based diversification like the production of food items, muscovado sugar, organic fertilizers, light farm equipment and home decor;

Inexpensive cost of doing business with numerous amenities, facilities and available opportunities;

A systematic traffic planning that offers the luxury of driving through wide roads in a highly urbanized center;

Greatly improved accessibility through an airport that connects the city to Manila 6 times daily through 3 major airlines and a seaport for large cargo and passenger vessels in addition to the fast sea crafts cruising the waters between Iloilo and Bacolod.

Strong involvement and partnership between the government and various private stakeholders plus that legendary hospitality and cuisine that make Bacolod City an ideal place to visit, to work and much more to live in this lifetime.

When will we have hydrofoils replace our existing catamaran-type fastcraft here in the Philippines. Hopefuly someone would like to invest on that, because just came from Iloilo (ari ko Bacolod subong) and had my first puke in my entire history of sea travel. With hydrofoils, they can just skim the wavy waters of Guimaras Strait (like the ones serving HongKong-Macau).

JEFFjr_25
December 18th, 2007, 11:30 AM
^^ I guess Berns that depends on the "pockets" of most usual sea travelers between Bacolod and Iloilo. Those hydrofoils entail higher cost in maintenance and of course the cost of purchasing one unit would also require a huge investment from the investor side.:) In reality, its still the ROI that matters most.:)

Contact Us About us Home Boat Shows at SM City Attract Enthusiasts

The different sizes of speedboats and jet skis displayed at the North Open Parking Area of SM City, courtesy of Negros Aquatic Sports Association (NASA) headed by Project Chairman Victor Puey. The viewing opens at 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for free, dubbed "Negros Aqua Sports Festival".* (CMGarde photos)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hundreds of enthusiasts trooped to a boat show daily since its opening Friday at the north wing open parking area of SM City Bacolod.

This is the first-ever boat show by members of the Negros Aquatic Sports Association (NASA) who spearheaded the
Negros Aqua Sports Tourism Festival at SM City. The boat show is free for viewing by the public.

Project Chairman and NASA member Victor Puey stressed that this event is a contribution of their organization to provide the general public the opportunity to view various types of aquatic sports facilities like the speedboats and jet skis.
Along with their corporate partner, Scan Marine, Inc., the NASA will hold this aquatic showcase until Thursday, December 20. The viewing is open from 1p.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

In the first few days of the activity, the general public was delighted and impressed that the NASA gave them a chance to see these boats for the first time in their life, Puey said.

“I have not seen such kind of boats in my life yet and it’s amazing,” said one retired banker who viewed the show with his family.

The displayed boats are not for sale and are owned by aquatic aficionados of the province and city. These boats and sea lovers travel from Bacolod even through the rough seas to different parts of the country and they enjoy the different views of the Philippine Islands, Puey added.

Even the jet ski riders travel through the seas to Iloilo, Guimaras, Cebu, Leyte and Tacloban riding jet skis and its their way of discovering tourism destinations around the country, Puey claimed.

This tourism event is supported by SM Bacolod, Scan Marine Inc., Power Systems Inc., Gatorade, Pepsi Cola, Rai Rai Ken, Shakey’s Pizza, Lakawon White Sand Beach, Costa Aguada Island Resort, The Travel Club, Ocean Jet, Gran Matador Brandy, Board Member Gary Acuña, UNIFED, Mang Inasal and Decos Batchoy Iloilo.*

Hay, that was also the same argument as of the Panay-Negros Bridge if it has a tollway. ROI. Indeed we need to improve our transport sector in the Visayas. Also, the countryside needs attention regarding these matters.

Anyway, the fare had increased. OceanJet has already P245 for trips ILO-BCD. And the whopping P3000 for MNL-almost any Visayas destination for airfare. X'mas is really in the air.

it's moving too fast but the quality of the posts have to be "upped". am reposting my earlier call for emails.

Padayon!

if only some of the forumers here would join in the call for improvement and help also in promoting our city, this thread will be much more substantial. Posting the recent pics of Bacolod is the only contribution i can make plus some news that i read in the news paper. Pictures that are posted here are not meant to make this thread move fast, but rather make others feel more at home and be oriented with the most recent developments in the City.

Get some connections in the Bacolod or Negros Occidental LGU and they will hear your story of contribution. Try it and it is very pleasing. And maybe they too can get some insiders (other than the local dailies) on whats hot and whats not, whats the latest and what's to be heard from them. :)

Probably what he meant when he said fine dining, that by the looks of it, its not the usual Pizza Hut resto which has the interior of a fast food chain. this one is quite different, all couches and very nice lighting fixtures. really look more classy than any other pizza hut stores in WV.:okay::banana2::banana2:

My golly. WHat happened to the rubberized tracks? "It must be the weather." hehehehe.. I hope the city govt will make use of this sports facility more often to minimize too much wear and tear. Lets say a sports event every quarterly among public or private schools.

It looks like fine dining to me thats what I mean sweetgirl, thanks for your statement.....:lol: the first in the region. I never heard in my life Pizza hut is a fine dining, it is a casual dining, even around the world I never seen the fine dining of Pizza hut.

Bacolod bank opens

For a soft opening, Sterling Bank of Asia's President and CEO Lamberto Villena made a touching remark — having chosen the former Clinica Garcia as their Bacolod branch office, he pointed out that a clinic is built not to make money but to give service.

And from this noblesse of heart, Sterling Bank also strives to give premium service to its clients. This is quiet apparent from the bank's logo which shows a golden heart!

With young Father Arnold blessing the spacious and sunny new interiors, it was a memorable moment going through the modern designed bank, having a brief glimpse of their high security vault, the client friendly counters and the most accessible officers' desks and conference room.

There was good feng shui as the sunlight blazed through the roof of the entrance, a providential sign from the heavens as the early morning shower stopped just in time for the blessing, heralding in a sunny day that had guests applauding after the inaugural speech.

Branch expansion head Fred Cataquis and Branch banking head Dwight Leyco had their hands full explaining to the guests the bank's initial offerings. Branch manager Stephen Abao beamed as everyone partook of the yummy breakfast treat at the clients' counter that always has steaming hot brewed coffee and a choice of imported tea. I perked up as the waiter pointed out to me that the bank uses a special blend of Figaro coffee in their brew.

MY PRAYER

SM Prime may borrow P4B
to build shopping malls

By Honey Madrilejos-Reyes
Reporter

SM Prime Holdings Inc., the country’s biggest mall developer, may tap peso borrowings of up to P4 billion in 2008 to fund its proposed P6-billion capital expenditure.

In an interview Wednesday, executive vice president Jeffrey Lim said the capex set for next year will bankroll the building of SM shopping malls. SM Prime is scheduled to open in 2008 SM Marikina, SM Rosales (Pangasinan) and SM Baliuag (Bulacan).

The company, a major income contributor to SM Investment Corp., the holding firm led by tycoon Henry Sy, currently owns and operates 30 shopping malls all over the country.

In June, it generated P4 billion from the issuance of a five-year floating rate note facility. Proceeds of which were used to fund its capex and general corporate requirements this year.

The company’s programmed capex this year was set at P7 billion for the construction of malls in Bacolod, Taytay and Muntinlupa, as well as expansion of malls in Cebu, Pampanga, Fairview and the Mall of Asia.
From this year to 2011, SM Prime estimates to spend P35 billion to fund at least 35 new malls and expand existing businesses.

In a previous interview, president Hans T. Sy said the programmed capital expenditure is consistent with its expansion growth. “The five-year capex does not include yet the land acquisitions,” he said. SM Prime is well on track to meet its full-year target and looks forward to a vibrant Christmas holiday season to boost its fourth quarter results.
