Pyro Magic 2007 at SM (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2007/12/19/life/pyro.magic.2007.at.sm.html)
SM CITY Bacolod was a unique site for festival of magic and dazzling lights last Saturday, December 15, 2007 as it played host to SM City Bacolod Pyro Magic 2007. People as far as your eyes could see.
According to an insider it was the biggest attendance for a mall event in the history of Bacolod. Vehicles both public and private were at a standstill when the first shot was fired and all eyes were to the sky as different colors and sizes of fireworks lit up the night.
Thousands upon thousands of people watching thrilled to the different colors and designs of fireworks that were shot by 3 teams that represented Bacolod and Manila. Although the last team, Nippon - Starmaker failed to deliver as it encountered some technical problem during their turn.
Despite various threats of thunderstorm early in the competition, each competitor was able to fire without a drop of rain.
Organizers Chuck Go and Rahkee Villarosa of Out of the Box Unlimited promise another night of world-class competition on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at SM City Bacolod as 3 highly skilled competitors will have a fire-off for the most coveted honor of being the First PyroMagic Champion.
Pyro Heaven Fireworks will represent Manila, the Philippine's pioneer pyrotechnical team who impressed spectators nationally. Dumaguete's pride and Buglasan's 3 time-grand champion, triple threat D.S.S. Fireworks will try to conquer Bacolod. And to complete the line up, our very own, Peacock Fireworks, locally recognized, the company has produced a multitude of fireworks shows and is responsible for Panaad sang Negros, Masskara and Bacalaodiat fireworks displays.
All participating teams have excellent experience and no doubt will bring tremendous amazement to the spectators. Each fireworks display will run from 4 to 6 minutes and there will be 3 competitors this Saturday. Announcement and awarding of the winners will cap the event.
Organizers are going to award P 70,000,00 and PyroMagic Plaque to the Champion, P 50,000 to the 1st runner up and P 30,000 to the 2nd runner up. Free gifts will be given to the lucky ones from Convergys.
Out of the Box Unlimited hopes that the grand and spectacular fireworks displays, together with the unflagging support of SM City Bacolod, Convergys and the City Mayor Bing Leonardia will bring a splendid and joyous holiday to the local residents and tourists visiting Bacolod City.
Bacolod was so alive last night...it seems like its still masskara festival :) people from other towns and cities gathered aound SM city to witness the first Pyromagic festival in Bacolod. This festival is gonna be the Next attraction in Bacolod City aside from well known festivals like Masskara and Panaad sa Negros. Indeed, Mayor Bing is really on high speed to promote tourism in Bacolod City.
Last Nights event was a Big Hit and people were talking about it. The part 2 will be on December 2, 2007 at 9PM. Again, Boy, Wildmusic and I (SUV111) will surely witness the spectacular event. Pyromagic festival is the beginning of the Next Tourism event in Bacolod's History.

SM Prime may borrow P4B
to build shopping malls
By Honey Madrilejos-Reyes
Reporter
SM Prime Holdings Inc., the country’s biggest mall developer, may tap peso borrowings of up to P4 billion in 2008 to fund its proposed P6-billion capital expenditure.
In an interview Wednesday, executive vice president Jeffrey Lim said the capex set for next year will bankroll the building of SM shopping malls. SM Prime is scheduled to open in 2008 SM Marikina, SM Rosales (Pangasinan) and SM Baliuag (Bulacan).
The company, a major income contributor to SM Investment Corp., the holding firm led by tycoon Henry Sy, currently owns and operates 30 shopping malls all over the country.
In June, it generated P4 billion from the issuance of a five-year floating rate note facility. Proceeds of which were used to fund its capex and general corporate requirements this year.
The company’s programmed capex this year was set at P7 billion for the construction of malls in Bacolod, Taytay and Muntinlupa, as well as expansion of malls in Cebu, Pampanga, Fairview and the Mall of Asia.
From this year to 2011, SM Prime estimates to spend P35 billion to fund at least 35 new malls and expand existing businesses.
In a previous interview, president Hans T. Sy said the programmed capital expenditure is consistent with its expansion growth. “The five-year capex does not include yet the land acquisitions,” he said. SM Prime is well on track to meet its full-year target and looks forward to a vibrant Christmas holiday season to boost its fourth quarter results.

So in the future, there will be two convention center in Bacolod City then. That's cool mahmen!!!
The Provincial Govt also plans to build a convention center at the back of the Capitol. Ambot na lng a.:nuts::banana2::banana2::cheers1::cheers1:

^^ Convention Facilities are being upgraded. Soon the one behind the capitol will be constructed and another one by SM..but as of now its still in the planning stage. Ive seen the masterplan of the provincial captiol already and it looks attractive coz they will have a mini park and some commercial buildings on the other side. :) lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that they will push through with it this coming year 2008 :)

Capitol links with firms, schools in setting up IT training facility (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2007/December/20/businessnews3.htm)
The Negros Occidental government is linking up with call center companies and information technology schools in Bacolod City to get inputs for its plan to put up a call center training facility early next year.
Teleperformance said in a press release that a technical team from the provincial government headed by Board Member Emilio Yulo III recently visited their site to determine the technical requirements for a training facility.
The group was briefed by IT desktop engineer Irjo Sellado on the computer requirements while trainer Anthony Visitacion, on the basic requirements of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the press release said.
The provincial technical team also visited VMA Global College , Lasaltech, Fidmi and another call center firm in the city, the press release added.
Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon and Board Member Yulo met with Teleperformance executives last September to identify both long term and short term solutions for the need to train students for employment in the BPO and IT sectors.
Identified as a long-term solution is the strengthening of the English literacy of Negrenses.
A program identified to fill the gap is the Negros Program for Enhancing English Proficiency or Negros PEEP, an initiative aimed to encourage students from elementary to tertiary levels and even out-of-school youths to develop their English language skills.
Negros Occidental High School has already launched its own English immersion program, and Teleperformance said it was impressed by the initiative of the school, the press release added.*

NILC TRAINEES FIELD TRIP IN BACOLOD CITY CALL CENTERS
November 25th, 2007
November 16, 2007. Northpoint first batch of trainees got their first taste of Call Center Agent experience last November 16 when they had their field trip in Bacolod City Call Centers. First, they visited Focus along Lacson St. where they were warmly welcomed by their Team Leader through the courtesy of Engr. Julie Dizon. There, the trainees were introduced to various facilities that focused on contact center activities.
After Focus, they went to Teleperformance which is located in the former Convention Plaza Hotel. Teleperformance is one of the largest call canters in Bacolod City. There, again the hosts were so generous to open all their centers that re: Sprint, Travel Destinations, & Motorola. They also had the chance to listen to customers, to observe Call agents answer quiries and to share with supervisors or team leaders assist the agents. Indeed, the trainees were so glad that what they learned at NILC were equally important in their quest for call center jobs.
Lastly, they visited Teletech in front of Bacolod City Airport. They were greeted by no other than Cathy Dominguez, the Talent Acquisition coordinator (TA). Again, they were guided through different sections of the center
Welcome!
NorthPoint International Learning Center, the first in call center education in Southern Negros. This young learning institution has been founded to address the manpower and training issues in the call center industry. As the call center industry emerges in the Philippines, Negros Occidental, in particular, has been the benefactor of the recent surge in demand for call center agents following the openings of several call centers in Bacolod City. Business process outsourcing is regarded as one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The reason of our existence is to mine the talent pool in the southern part of Negros Occidental, to provide training courses designed to improve students' English proficiency. Our goal is to become the leading provider of talents and competent professionals to the call center and related industry.
We are conveniently located at the 2nd Floor of the New Rural Bank of Binalbagan, National Highway, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, Philippines. It is 63 kilometers south of Bacolod City, the capital of the province of Negros Occidental. The town is better known as the center of sugar production in the Philippines considering the presence of Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company (BISCOM) one of the biggest sugar centrals ofthe world.
Thank you wildmusic........

Agud mapamatud-an ang pagkaanyag niya

Capitol links with firms, schools
in setting up IT training facility

Province assures Panaad stadium rehabilitation
By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.
VICE Governor Isidro Zayco assured Monday that the Provincial Government will be providing funds for the rehabilitation of the multi-million sports facility in Bacolod City following observations that it was not be well maintained.
Zayco said the Provincial Government has already set a budget for the repair of the Paanad Stadium, particularly its rubberized track oval - which is already totally damaged.
According to Zayco, rains and bad weather have prevented the immediate repair of the stadium.
Furthermore, Zayco said they cannot gamble to fix the facilities while it rains and cause these expensive materials to be thrown away and become useless.
When the weather permits, the track oval repair will push through, he said.
The Panaad Park and Stadium is a multi-use stadium in the province.
It is currently used mostly for football matches, which was used for the 2005 SEA Games and the pre-qualifiers of the 2007 ASEAN Football Championship or ASEAN Cup.
It has a seating capacity of 15,500, but holds around 20,000 people with standing areas. It is unofficially designated as the home stadium of the Philippines' national football team.
Aside from the football field and the rubberized track oval, an Olympic-size swimming pool and other sports facilities are also present.

Thanks @BoyNegro$. So Teletech is like the exclusive tenant of Cybergate for now.
This is good, at least there will be formal training for the cc agents. The better to improve their grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. in my honest opinion there is no point for call centers to keep hiring and hiring without training the agents extensively just so they can start operations, while the service they give to their clients is not good because the clients cannot understand the agents or the agents don't know how to do their jobs well and the customers will just get mad
With this training pinoy agents will be known to provide quality service and the customers will notice it :)

I saw it in their tarps hanging around Dumaguete that they are "The world's largest customer management company." They were second to Convergys two years ago, it is possible that they are now number 1. In India they formed an entirely different company and it is also one of the largest there. And they are actually the first callcenter company, even ahead of Convergys. For many years they were number 1 and CVG overtook them. And now they are raring to retake the number 1 position.
I'll try to substantiate these claims once I finish doing my research.

An Electric Jeepney coasts along Bacolod City, 50 minutes by plane south of Manila 13 July 2007. Bacolod is the capital of Negros Occidental, the first province in the Philippines to embrace a 100% renewable energy target. The Electric Jeepneys, which are meant to be powered by renewable energy sources, were launched today by GRIPP (Green Renewable Independent Power Producer) and Greenpeace during the visit of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the city. GRIPP and Greenpeace called on the national government to support the large-scale replication of the project and to facilitate the massive uptake of renewable energy alternatives in the country.

In Makati they are having it now experimentally travelling in Buendia to Bel-Air and vice-versa. So in Bacolod (which is naturally hilly) Mandalagan/Bata-Libertad, Shopping-Libertad and Magsungay/Singcang - Cent Market would be possible experimental routes. I saw it on yahoo finance that the Market Capital of Teletech is 1.4 billion while Convergys is 2.2 billion. So for me Convergys is still the biggest BPO company worldwide. You can also check the income of both companies in 2006 and forecast 2007 there, convergys still win by wide margin.

Wow i hope the E-jeeps would push through, but I believe they are only good for soft slopes and medium distances. Imagine it travelling to Alangilan and upper Granada? He he hehe:lol:
Hahahaha!!! i wouldnt dare ride in one of those Ejeeps travelling to alangilan or granada(if ever). :) I'd rather walk :) id rather take a cab instead :)

Pls try to inform us after you finish your research, goodluck.:):)
You're right, CVG is still larger.

I feel the same way for CDO in Northern Mindanao, that it will be the next ICT hub there. Its not impossible Far because you have a beautiful city as well as a good source of BPO talents, plus the upcoming Airport and Ayala scouting for land...CDO is opening its doors to the world. :):)
I do hope in the very near future, Bacolod and CDO's local governments will declare both cities as "twin cities"; counterparts in the visayas and mindanao respectively. Actually a lot of my CDO friends/batchmates before in USC-TC(Cebu) had been telling me of such notable similarities from both cities. Both in the lifestyle and the development departments.:)

Guys, Teletech is a Phil BPO company???:)
It's a US-based company with headquarters in Denver, Colorado. Convergys is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. But with the globalization of the BPO industry the countries of origin of these companies are blurring. For one, these companies might be infused with money from one country, and depending on the magnitude of the money infused, they might be considered as originating from that country where the holder of the biggest stocks originates. For example, PeopleSupport is a US-based company but majority of its operations is here in the Philippines. It was supposed to be bought be a Philippine-based conglomerate, and could have been considered a Philippine company.
The same is true with SPi. It was founded here in the Philippines by Americans and Europeans and was headquartered in Manila. When American Lee Putnam infused money into it it was headquartered in the US (Washington if am not mistaken). Recently it was again bought by the Philippine conglomerate e-PLDT, but I guess its headquarters is still in the US as ePLDT is listed in NASDAQ.

greenest in Western Visayas
The City of Kabankalan in Negros Occidental was named the Greenest and Cleanest City in Western Visayas for 2007 by the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Project, a press release from the city said.
The recognition was received by Ann Zayco Lacson, daughter of Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco at the “Pagdayaw” Award Ceremony on Continuing Excellence of Governance, held at the Sarabia Manor Convention Center in Iloilo City Thursday.
Regional director Evelyn Trompeta of DILG, Tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta, and DILG officials Joy Maridette Madayag and Anthony Nuyda gave the award to Lacson, accompanied by Belden Bedayo, Kabankalan local government operation manager, the press release said.
Kabankalan was also first runner-up in the Cleanest Public Restroom in Region VI, and was given Pee-Stops accreditation by the Women in Travel Bacolod City Chapter headed by Luci Lizares-Yunque last year.
The press release added that it will become a Hall of Famer if it receives the cleanest and greenest local government title next year.*

I am optimistic for Bacolod too. All I'm saying is that 2008 will be tricky in the sense that for those who are too aggressive because of the 2007 rewards, the same may be surprised if not caught flat-footed given that the challenges for 2008 will be a different ballgame.
For the various companies that I do consultancy for, the general mood now is to approach 2008 with caution. ;)

Yes, I know that Negrosanons are survivors. However, we should learn not to be all so gung-ho when the good times arrive because we simply don't know what's around the corner.
If we want to see Negros progress, dapat slow but sure. We should learn from the mistakes of the past and see further down the road so that our growth as a province is more sustainable.

But still, many companies wants to invest in the city despite their problems. You consider 2007 as a reward? For me, the booming of Bacolod City has not reach its full height yet. More big things to come for Bacolod, we've waited patiently for this moment, all we have to do is to continue to keep the momentum soaring high.

There are short term rewards for 2007. This is not the height yet, I agree. More big things to come for Bacolod in 2008, agree man ako. However, all I'm saying is that people should continue with their thinking cap on so to speak.
We are excited yes. But then that's the nature of Negrenses, too much excitement without temperance will lead us to dire straits.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the progress of Negros and Bacolod. All I'm saying is that moving forward, there should be more deliberation and planning done otherwise, we can all be caught flat-footed again. ;)

I never thought that the thread is too fast guys. Hehehe
Anyway, I believe it won't be too long that Bacolod will have a high-rise too since Bacolod's downtown area nowadays becomes denser. And most of all is that the making of your city to be one of the convention and tourist destinations in WV will force your business chamber out there to attract hotel investors to build a high rise hotel in the denser proper city. ^^
By the way, GOOD AFTERNOON!

Good afternoon to you too Far, nice of you to visit our thread here, sana maka punta ka dito. You are very welcome here.
Well I just hope Bacolod will have a high rise building soon, but were not in a hurry for that, as much as possible investors muna.
I visited your thread last night, masaya rin pala doon.

hahahaha!!!! welcome back dear friend. :)
Bacolod we will see it in the years to come. Once the old airport will be closed, Bacolod can now have high rise buildings. Its the airport that impedes the construction of highrise buildings. :) And we are hoping that its gonna be ayala who will set up the trend. :) I am optimistic about it. :) hehehehe...
Hey!!!! your City is moving fast as well...good for us, we are blessed to have numerous investors this year. :)

thats the reason why we have to celebrate...coz weve been through our lowest lows yet we emerged as one of the Best Cities in the country today...thats why we need to keep that spirit alive and ignore the things that hinders us to be happy. :) lets enjoy and Hope for the best...

My pleasure @SUV to always visit your thread. Yeah your right! I forget that logic somehow. Hehehe
Anyway, that will be good if it will be Ayala since Ayala has been planning to invest BPO in Bacolod.
Mucho gracias! Yours also! I know that your city is still doing great towards progression. The sale of your MassKara Festival to the whole world already, famous as the sugarbowl in the Philippines, Piaya, and other delicacies have been the big assets why Bacolod is still in the lists of the national and international investors alike to invest in Bacolod. ^^

^^ I therefore conclude that last night, nag-gimikay kamo, hahaha!!! Anyway, i'm here at our Nation's capital and still not sure when to come back. The difficulty is that flights to Visayas has increased to almost P3K all the way until January, RoRo is for chance passengers only and so are the ferry services.
