I think you have your own Campus Radio already there, well thats already a good start.

Way before, Bacolod has to rely on Iloilo for GMA and Iloilo has to rely on Bacolod for ABSCBN. But now, ABSCBN established TV-10 in Iloilo and has an uphill climb to get its audiences back to them from GMA TV-6 when it comes to ratings.

Here in Bacolod, we also have this small branch of casino near Lfisher hotel where they only have slot machines. :) a lot of people are coming in to play and its good...it adds up to the vibrant night life of the city and a leisure time for the tourists as well :)

I'm pretty sure the downtown area or shall I say, every bit of corners and small spaces in the shopping area of Bacolod are now rushing and nothing but rush of shopping. What we call, last minute shopping spree. Malls are filled of course. Hopefully, our SSC-Bcd dudes and babes can also take a sec in snapping a shot or two of the mad shopping rush in Bacolod.

The HRM and Tourism Center along Quezon is a 5-story building but we can't expand upwards so we used the retreat house beside the building and converted it into a 2-story building with a new hot kitchen, classrooms and conference room.

my mom's friend, who's one of the managers there in SM, said that they really underestimated the buying power of Bacolod. Which is quite true now, considering that a new middle class has emerged thanks to all of the call centers and businesses now thriving in the city. :)

to build shopping malls

SM Prime Holdings Inc., the country’s biggest mall developer, may tap peso borrowings of up to P4 billion in 2008 to fund its proposed P6-billion capital expenditure.

In an interview Wednesday, executive vice president Jeffrey Lim said the capex set for next year will bankroll the building of SM shopping malls. SM Prime is scheduled to open in 2008 SM Marikina, SM Rosales (Pangasinan) and SM Baliuag (Bulacan).

The company, a major income contributor to SM Investment Corp., the holding firm led by tycoon Henry Sy, currently owns and operates 30 shopping malls all over the country.

In June, it generated P4 billion from the issuance of a five-year floating rate note facility. Proceeds of which were used to fund its capex and general corporate requirements this year.

The company’s programmed capex this year was set at P7 billion for the construction of malls in Bacolod, Taytay and Muntinlupa, as well as expansion of malls in Cebu, Pampanga, Fairview and the Mall of Asia.
From this year to 2011, SM Prime estimates to spend P35 billion to fund at least 35 new malls and expand existing businesses.

In a previous interview, president Hans T. Sy said the programmed capital expenditure is consistent with its expansion growth. “The five-year capex does not include yet the land acquisitions,” he said. SM Prime is well on track to meet its full-year target and looks forward to a vibrant Christmas holiday season to boost its fourth quarter results.

supposed to be buildings sa likod are convention area of SM as they where maximizing the use of office space leases, strips are good, however thats improbable for now, because no disclosed info from the company, I think if the one who open this info should reveal her/his resource, if indeed its factual, then it would be my apologies.

BTW, araneta center visayas, is not doing the ground breaking, its assesing the site, which is the noahs arc central area. assesing is not groundbreaking to build something, building a good architectual feat would mean to match the surrounding environment, geees, pagkagwa mo? ang marugkis nga patyo sang bacolod? well i dunno how would they plan for it, pero, kung ano ang ikaayo sang bacolod didto ta sugot ako, pero wala lang bala pataaka sugilanon. mga butigon lang aang gaamo na.

we're not exactly saying that this project WILL push through, if you read it again, we're just excited that IF these projects will push through, then it would be a good thing for Bacolod.

And how sure are you Starbucks will open along Lacson St.? There are also sources that say they are sure it is in San Parq?

yes jeff...its a combination of Hotel and condominium units :) wait for the riverbanks condo next year. :) its located at the back of Goldenfields...Condominium units are sold like pancakes here in Bacolod thats the reason why theres a bigger demand for Condominiums :)

Bing appoints Orola as
tourism council chief

BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia has appointed Atty. John Orola, as Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism and Cultural Development Council (TCDC).

Leonardia signed Executive Order (EO) No. 22, series of 2007 Reconvening and Reconstituting the Membership and Composition of the TCDC.

The EO is pursuant to City Ordinance No. 97, series of 1993 creating TCDC in the City of Bacolod. Its objectives include planning, evaluating and executing tourism program and projects.

“TCDC is an organization that truly represents the major players in the tourism industry,” stressed the ordinance. Its primary aim is to position Bacolod as a tourist destination in the country.

Members of the Council from the government sector are Councilor Homer Q. Bais, Committee Chair on Tourism; Councilor Greg G. Gasataya, Committee Chair on Environment, Trade and Industry; Ma. Elma. M. A. Gerasmo, Senior Tourism Operations Officer, TCDC Secretariat; Senior Supt. Ronilo V. Quebrar, Bacolod City Police Director; Ireneo J. Asuga, Director, Department of Interior and Local Government; Lea Gonzales, Department of Trade and Industry; Ardis Jaculina, Investment Promotion and Development Task Force; Nelson Sedillo, General Services Office and Engr. Belly Aguillon, OIC City Engineer’s Office.

From the private sector: John Lizares, Hotel and Restaurants Associations of Negros Occidental; Greg Flores, National Association of Independent Travel Agents; Christina Gaston, Association of Negros Producers; Raymund Tongson, Chairman, Council of Lions Club Presidents; and Renier Gerochi, District Governor, Council of Rotary Club Presidents.

Ronnie Lizares, representing the resorts, was elected by the Council as Deputy Executive Director.

During its first meeting at Palmas del Mar recently, Orola stressed the need for TCDC to package a good image for Bacolod to make her a destination center in the Philippines.

He said tourism is not only focused on culture but business as well. “With that,” he added, “we could target foreign markets in Japan and Korea in cooperation with the private sector.”

For its major project, TCDC is launching “Visit Bacolod Year” in 2008. This will open linkages across sister cities of Bacolod in the country and abroad.

“By strengthening the annual events and activities in Bacolod such as holding the MassKara Festival, Charter Anniversary Celebration and the Bacolaodiat Festival, we can invite local and foreign tourists to Bacolod thus promoting Mayor Leonardia’s ‘A Tourist is a Friend’ Program, Orola explained.

Also in the agenda are TCDC’s priority projects for the first quarter which involve: massive clean up including efficient garbage collection monitoring and drainage implementation. TCDC also targets tourism awareness in schools, government and private sectors and the transportation sector as well.

Grrr amo na gina prob ko subong kay if ever madayun ako overnite sa silay na ang landing. im so used to landing in bacolod terminal. ang balay namon ara lang sa Tangub.

so u can just imagine how convenient it is for me to travel before . kay 1 km lang ang airport. but now..

hay lord.... kalayo na katama..


meg thats ok clear ang highway no traffic and no eyesores leading to the airport, gina amat amat na subong bakal ang new diversion road , wala sila mahimo, another 10 kilometers world class road, $52 million dollors worth.,....:banana::banana::banana: classy ang coffee shop sa airport hindi tindahan ang concepts.

I guess you're referring to the "banig" design in some part of NBSA's interiors. Maybe this is to infuse local appeal in its modern architecture. I guess you also noticed the hut inside the airport. Though not that big, NBSA's structural/architectural design is ok. Soon the Negrense populace, some balikbayans & foreign tourists will witness and get the feel of NBSA's at par best service and facilities experienced only in most modern countries.:)

I admit that its far, especially that i live near the old airport...now, i need to go to the airport at least 2 hours before departure. :(

korek gid meg my originality ang design, not that usual type airport design. the NBSA is different..... inspired by local artist. watch out the coffee shop inside its another unique design.

my mom's friend, who's one of the managers there in SM, said that they really underestimated the buying power of Bacolod. Which is quite true now, considering that a new middle class has emerged thanks to all of the call centers and businesses now thriving in the city. :)

That's true. That is why Bing has to set his priority in creating a new middle class in Bacolod since they are the largest consumers in the society. Negros Occidental also will follow suit and soon you'll have a dynamic market, out frrom dependency of sugar industry, truly a prophecy of Carlos Locsin coming true. :)
